Abstract

High-voltage CMOS (HV-CMOS) pixel technology is being considered for future Higgs factory experiments. The ATLASPix3.1 chip, with a pitch of 50$\mu m$ x 150$\mu m$, fabricated using TSI 180nm HV-CMOS technology, is a full reticle-size monolithic HV-CMOS sensor with shunt-low dropout (LDO) regulators that allow serial powering for multiple sensors. A beam test was conducted at DESY using 3-6 GeV electron beams, with chips operated in triggerless readout mode with zero suppression, demonstrating multi-chip capability. This was further evaluated with hadron beams, both with and without the built-in power regulators. Blood samples were collected for 72 hours and the PK parameters of Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ were used to evaluate PK differences.Results: PK analysis of the two olaparib formulations showed that the Geometric Least Squares Mean (GLSM) ratio 90% confidence intervals for pivotal fasting Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ were 94.82– 108.97%, 92.94– 104.28%, and 92.81– 103.85%, respectively, and pivotal fed Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ were 82.78– 100.97%, 91.59– 104.67%, and 92.17– 104.76%, respectively. The 90% confidence interval of the two preparations, Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞, all fall within the equivalent range of 80– 125%. Both olaparib tablet formulations were well tolerated, with no serious adverse events (SAE) or adverse events (AE) causing withdrawal occurred.Conclusion: Two types of olaparib tablets were bioequivalent under both fasting and fed condition, and were generally well tolerated in healthy Chinese male subjects.Keywords: olaparib, safety, pharmacokinetics, bioequivalence, healthy Chinese male subjects

The diaphragm contraction and motion-related parameters of patients such as end inspiratory diaphragm thickness (DT-insp), end respiratory diaphragm thickness (DT-exp), diaphragm thickening fraction (DTF), diaphragmatic thickening fraction rapid shallow breathing index (DTF-RSBI), diaphragmatic excursion (DE), diaphragmatic excursion rapid shallow breathing index (DE-RSBI) were recorded and the association with failure in ventilatory extubation was analyzed. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was conducted to analyze the prediction of successful weaning.Results: Out of 95 patients, 14 (14.74%) died, and 68 (71.58%) were successfully extubated. There were significant differences between the two groups in all parameters except DT-exp. The results indicated that duration of mechanical ventilation (OR = 0.850, 95% CI: 0.770– 0.938, P = 0.001), DTF (OR = 1.214, 95% CI: 1.108– 1.330, P = 0.000), DTF-RSBI (OR = 0.917, 95% CI: 0.880– 0.954, P = 0.000), DE (OR = 127.02, 95% CI: 15.004– 1075.291, P = 0.000), DE-RSBI (OR = 0.752, 95% CI: 0.657– 0.861, P = 0.000) had predictive value for weaning. DTF and DE had a high sensitivity of 91.18%, 100%, respectively. Whereas, duration of mechanical ventilation, DTF-RSBI, DE-RSBI showed a high specificity of 81.48,85.19%, 81.48%. Considering all the above factors, the sensitivity was 88.24% and the specificity was 88.89%.Conclusion: Bedside ultrasound assessment of diaphragmatic parameters enables the detection of diaphragmatic dysfunction, thus proving valuable in predicting extubation success and facilitating a favorable weaning outcome.Keywords: diaphragmatic dynamics, bedside ultrasound, extubation, intensive care unit

Although mangiferin (MGF) has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, its role in ALI remains unclear. Accordingly, we investigated the MGF molecular mechanism in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced ALI in vivo and in vitro.Materials and Methods: The CCl4 was utilized to induce ALI in mice. In vivo, the therapeutic effects of MGF on CCl4-induced liver injury were evaluated through biochemical assays and histomorphological analysis. Additionally, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, ELISA and Western blotting were further applied to explore the mechanism. In vitro, The CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry were employed to investigate the protective effects of MGF against CCl4-induced toxicity in HepG2 cells, while mitochondrial reactive oxygen species levels and Western blotting were used to explore the biological effects and molecular mechanisms.Results: MGF treatment resulted in a reduction in serum levels of AST and ALT, diminished concentrations of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β in liver tissue, and concurrently decreased cellular apoptosis. Furthermore, MGF pretreatment enhanced the activity of SOD and GSH while concurrently diminishing the MDA production. This study further demonstrated the upregulation of Nrf2, NQO1, and HO-1 protein expression levels, as well as the downregulation of p-p65 protein expression levels. In vitro investigations revealed that the mitigation of CCl4-induced inflammation and OS by MGF was mediated via the Nrf2- antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway, which was disrupted by ML385 in HepG2 cells.Conclusion: CCl4 can induce liver injury, while treatment with MGF mitigates ALI by inhibiting oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) was used to filter the variables. Decision Trees (DT), Random Forest (RF), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), k-nearest Neighbour (KNN), Naive Bayes (NB), Neural Network (NN). Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM) and Logistic Regression (LR) were used to construct predictive models. Clinical data from 55 GBS patients were used to validate the model. SHapley additive explanation (SHAP) analysis was used to explain the model. Single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) was used for immune cell infiltration analysis.Results: The AUCs (area under the curves) of the 8 ML algorithms including DT, RF, XGBoost, KNN, NB, NN, LGBM and LR were as follows: 0.75, 0.896 0.874, 0.666, 0.742, 0.765, 0.869 and 0.744. The accuracy of XGBoost (0.852) was the highest, followed by LGBM (0.803) and RF (0.758), with F1 index of 0.832, 0.794, and 0.667, respectively. The results of the validation set data analysis showed AUCs of 0.839, 0.919, and 0.733 for RF, XGBoost, and LGBM, respectively. SHAP analysis showed that the SHAP values of blood neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), age, mechanical ventilation, hyporeflexia and abnormal glossopharyngeal vagus nerve were 0.821, 0.645, 0.517, 0.401 and 0.109, respectively.Conclusion: The combination of NLR, age, mechanical ventilation, hyporeflexia and abnormal glossopharyngeal vagus used to predict short-term prognosis in patients with GBS has a good predictive value.Keywords: Guillain-Barré syndrome, machine learning, prognosis, SHAP

6. Diaphragm Assessment by Multimodal Ultrasound Imaging in Healthy Subjects

However, there are few studies on DUS parameters to evaluate function, normal ranges, and influencing factors in population. The aim of this study is to provide a methodological reference for clinical evaluation of diaphragm function by measuring different DUS parameters in a healthy population.Methods: A descriptive study was conducted 212 (105 males, 107 females) subjects with normal spirometry underwent ultrasound imaging in this study. The diaphragm contraction and motion related parameters and shear wave velocity (SWV) were measured in the supine position. The effects of gender, age, body mass index (BMI) and lifestyle on diaphragm ultrasound parameters were analyzed.Results: The diaphragm thickness at end-expiration (DT-exp) was 0.14 ± 0.05 cm, the diaphragm thickness at end- inspiration (DT-insp) was 0.29± 0.10 cm, with thickening fraction (TF) was 1.11± 0.54. The diaphragm excursion (DE) was 1.68± 0.37cm and diaphragm velocity was 1.45± 0.41 cm/s during calm breathing. During deep breathing, the DE was 5.06± 1.40cm and diaphragm velocity was 3.20± 1.18 cm/s. The Diaphragm shear modulus—longitudinal view were Mean16.72± 4.07kPa, Max25.04± 5.58kPa, Min11.06± 3.88kPa, SD2.56± 0.98. The results of diaphragmatic measurement showed that the DT of males was significantly greater than that of females (P< 0.05), but there was no significant difference in TF. The DT-insp (r=0.155, P= 0.024) and the DT-exp (r=0.252, P=0.000) were positively correlated with age, and the DE during calm breathing was negatively correlated with age (r=− 0.218, P= 0.001) and BMI (r=− 00.280, P= 0.000). The DE (R=0.371, P=0.000) and velocity (R=0.368, P=0.000) during deep breathing were correlated with lifestyle.Conclusion: Our study provides normal reference values of the diaphragm and evaluates the influence of gender, age, body mass index and lifestyle on diaphragmatic morphology.Keywords: diaphragm, reference values, ultrasound, supine position

Two to three serial blood samples were collected for each patient after the second doses. We developed and validated PK model for plasma NIR and plasma RIT. Monte Carlo dosing simulations were performed to assess target attainment.Results: We analyzed 89 plasma samples from 31 adult patients. The data were best described by a one-compartment model. Among the covariates tested on pharmacokinetic parameters, creatinine clearance (CrCL) and area under curve (AUC) of RIT had a significant effect on apparent clearance (CL/F) of NIR. Mean (SD) parameters estimates for the absorption rate constant (Ka), apparent distribution (V/F) and CL/F were 0.42 (0.10) h− 1. 36.5 (8.5) L, 3.6 (0.26) L/h, respectively. Dosing simulations showed that the target in vitro 90% effective concentration (EC90) was more likely to be achieved twice a day than once a day at the same daily dose of NIR. High CrCL, low AUC of RIT were associated with a reduced likelihood of NIR reaching the target EC90.Conclusion: Based on our dosing simulations, the initial dosage of NIR/RIT was 300mg/100mg twice a day in critically ill patients with CrCL> 45 mL/min; When CrCL in critically ill patients is between 15 and 45 mL/min, NIR/RIT is 150mg/100mg twice a day. This retrospective study aimed to delineate the initiation strategy for IDeg in Chinese hospitalized patients with T2DM.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 217 Chinese hospitalized patients with T2DM who initiated IDeg from December 2018 to June 2020, calculating the initial dose and examining correlations between clinical characteristics and glucose profiles.Results: The initial IDeg doses ranged from 0.15 to 0.18 IU/kg·d, showing no association with clinical characteristics. During titration, mean blood glucose levels (MEAN) correlated positively with diabetes duration, age, and Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c), and negatively with body mass index (BMI), triglycerides (TG), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The coefficient of variation (CV) in glucose levels correlated positively with HbA1c and negatively with BMI and TG. The mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE) mirrored these trends, with additional negative correlations to estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and serum albumin (ALB). Notably, glycemic variability parameters did not correlate with the presence of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at admission. Hypoglycemia was observed in 21 patients, with differences in MEAN and CV during titration being the only significant findings.Conclusion: The initial IDeg dosing was inadequate and not tailored to clinical features, and there were weak correlations between diabetes duration, age, BMI, eGFR, LDL, and ALB levels and glucose profile post-initiation.Keywords: T2DM, insulin degludec, glucose variability, insulin initiation

9. The ALMA view of MP Mus (PDS 66): a protoplanetary disk with no visible gaps down to 4 au scales

Abstract

We present ALMA multiwavelength observations of the protoplanetary disk around the nearby (d$\sim$100 pc) young solar analog MP Mus (PDS 66). These observations at 0.89 mm, 1.3 mm, and 2.2 mm have angular resolutions of $\sim$ 1", 0.05", and 0.25", respectively, and probe the dust and gas in the system with unprecedented detail and sensitivity. The disk appears smooth down to the 4 au resolution of the 1.3 mm observations, in contrast with most disks observed at comparable spatial scales. The dust disk has a radius of 60$\pm$5 au, a dust mass of $0.14_{-0.06}^{+0.11} M_{\rm Jup}$, and a mm spectral index $<2$ in the inner 30 au, suggesting optically thick emission from grains with high albedo in this region. Several molecular gas lines are also detected extending up to 130$\pm$15 au, similar to small grains traced by scattered light observations. Comparing the fluxes of different CO isotopologues with previous models yields a gas mass of $0.1-1 M_{\rm Jup}$, implying a gas to dust ratio of 1-10. We also measure a dynamical stellar mass of $M_{\rm dyn}$=1.30$\pm$0.08 $M_\odot$ and derive an age of 7-10 Myr for the system. The survival of large grains in an evolved disk without gaps/rings is surprising, and it is possible that existing substructures remain undetected due to optically thick emission at 1.3 mm. Alternatively, small structures may still remain unresolved with the current observations. Based on simple scaling relations for gap-opening planets and gap widths, this lack of substructures places upper limits to the masses of planets in the disk as low as 2 $M_\oplus$-0.06 $M_{\rm Jup}$ at $r > 40$ au. Titanium (TI) and its alloys have become the most widely used implant materials, but implant-associated infection remains a common and serious complication after implant surgery. In addition, titanium exhibits biological inertness, which prevents implants and bone tissue from binding strongly and may cause implants to loosen and fall out. Therefore, preventing implant infection and improving their bone induction ability are important goals.Purpose: To study the antibacterial activity and bone induction ability of titanium–copper alloy implants coated with nanosilver/poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (NSPTICU) and provide a new approach for inhibiting implant-associated infection and promoting bone integration.Methods: We first examined the in vitro osteogenic ability of NSPTICU implants by studying the proliferation and differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells. Furthermore, the ability of NSPTICU implants to induce osteogenic activity in SD rats was studied by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, masson staining, immunohistochemistry and van gieson (VG) staining. The antibacterial activity of NSPTICU in vitro was studied with gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (Sa) and gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. Sa was used as the test bacterium, and the antibacterial ability of NSPTICU implanted in rats was studied by gross view specimen collection, bacterial colony counting, HE staining and Giemsa staining.Results: Alizarin red staining, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot analysis showed that NSPTICU promoted the osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells. The in vitro antimicrobial results showed that the NSPTICU implants exhibited better antibacterial properties. Abstract

[abridged] We present new scattered light and millimeter observations of the protoplanetary disk around LkH$\alpha\,330$, using SPHERE/VLT and ALMA, respectively. The scattered-light SPHERE observations reveal an asymmetric ring at around 45au from the star in addition to two spiral arms with similar radial launching points at around 90au. The millimeter observations from ALMA (resolution of 0.06''$\times$0.04'') mainly show an asymmetric ring located at 110au from the star. In addition to this asymmetry, there are two faint symmetric rings at 60au and 200au. The $^{12}$CO, $^{13}$CO, and C$^{18}$O lines seem to be less abundant in the inner disk (these observations have a resolution of 0.16''$\times$0.11''). The $^{13}$CO peaks at a location similar to the inner ring observed with SPHERE, suggesting that this line is optically thick and traces variations of disk temperature instead of gas surface-density variations, while the C$^{18}$O peaks slightly further away at around 60au. We compare our observations with hydrodynamical simulations that include gas and dust evolution, and conclude that a 10$M_{\rm{Jup}}$ mass planet at 60au and in an eccentric orbit ($e=0.1$) can qualitatively explain most of the observed structures. A planet in a circular orbit leads to a much narrower concentration in the millimeter emission, while a planet in a more eccentric orbit leads to a very eccentric cavity as well. In addition, the outer spiral arm launched by the planet changes its pitch angle along the spiral due to the eccentricity and when it interacts with the vortex, potentially appearing in observations as two distinct spirals. Our observations and models show that LkH$\alpha\,330$ is an interesting target to search for (eccentric-) planets while they are still embedded in their parental disk, making it an excellent candidate for studies on planet-disk interaction., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A, minor changes after language edition

Abstract

We report in detail the design process and performance of an auto-locking ultra-stable laser with sub-hertz linewidth at the first time. The laser frequency is automatically stabilized to an optical reference cavity with a home-made controller, which is based on a combination of digital circuit and analog circuit. The digital circuit is used for diagnosing and manipulating the state of the ultra-stable laser, and the analog circuit is used for demodulating the discriminate signal and servo control. A method of searching the transmission signal in the closed-loop state instead of the open-loop state is proposed to reduce the locking time and improve the reliable of the auto-locking ultra-stable laser. The median time of 16.6s is obtained after 157 times of relocking, and the probability of less than 20 s is more than 86%. The median linewidth of 1.08 Hz is obtained, and the fractional frequency instability is less than 3.4E-15 at integration time between 0.1 and 100 s. Abstract

FU Orionis-type objects (FUors) are low-mass pre-main sequence stars undergoing a temporary, but significant increase of mass accretion rate from the circumstellar disk onto the protostar. It is not yet clear what triggers the accretion bursts and whether the disks of FUors are in any way different from disks of non-bursting young stellar objects. Motivated by this, we conducted a 1.3 mm continuum survey of ten FUors and FUor-like objects with ALMA, using both the 7 m array and the 12 m array in two different configurations to recover emission at the widest possible range of spatial scales. We detected all targeted sources and several nearby objects as well. To constrain the disk structure, we fit the data with models of increasing complexity from 2D Gaussian to radiative transfer, enabling comparison with other samples modeled in a similar way. The radiative transfer modeling gives disk masses that are significantly larger than what is obtained from the measured millimeter fluxes assuming optically thin emission, suggesting that the FUor disks are optically thick at this wavelength. In comparison with samples of regular Class II and Class I objects, the disks of FUors are typically a factor of 2.9-4.4 more massive and a factor of 1.5-4.7 smaller in size. Abstract

The detection of a wide range of substructures such as rings, cavities and spirals has become a common outcome of high spatial resolution imaging of protoplanetary disks, both in the near-infrared scattered light and in the thermal millimetre continuum emission. The most frequent interpretation of their origin is the presence of planetary-mass companions perturbing the gas and dust distribution in the disk (perturbers), but so far the only bona-fide detection has been the two giant planets around PDS 70. Here, we collect a sample of 15 protoplanetary disks showing substructures in SPHERE scattered light images and present a homogeneous derivation of planet detection limits in these systems. We also estimate the mass of these perturbers through a Hill radius prescription and a comparison to ALMA data. Assuming that one single planet carves each substructure in scattered light, we find that more massive perturbers are needed to create gaps within cavities than rings, and that we might be close to a detection in the cavities of RX J1604, RX J1615, Sz Cha, HD 135344B and HD 34282. We reach typical mass limits in these cavities of 3-10 Mjup. For planets in the gaps between rings, we find that the detection limits of SPHERE are about an order of magnitude away in mass, and that the gaps of PDS 66 and HD 97048 seem to be the most promising structures for planet searches. The proposed presence of massive planets causing spiral features in HD 135344B and HD 36112 are also within SPHERE's reach assuming hot-start models.These results suggest that current detection limits are able to detect hot-start planets in cavities, under the assumption that they are formed by a single perturber located at the centre of the cavity. A modified ICD-10 based algorithm was validated against a reference standard of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score based on Sepsis-3. Sensitivity (SE), specificity (SP), positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) were calculated for modified ICD-10 criteria, eSOFA criteria, Martin’s criteria, and Angus’s criteria.Results: Of the 547 patients in the cohort, 332 (61%) patients met Sepsis-3 criteria and 274 (50%) met modified ICD-10 criteria. In the ICU setting, modified ICD-10 criteria had SE (84.47%), SP (88.57%), PPV (95.60), and NPV (65.96). In non-ICU settings, modified ICD-10 had SE (64.19%), SP (80.00%), PPV (80.33), and NPV (63.72). In the whole cohort, the AUROCs of modified ICD-10 criteria, eSOFA, Angus’s criteria, and Martin’s criteria were 0.76, 0.75, 0.62, and 0.62, respectively.Conclusion: This study demonstrated that modified ICD-10 criteria had higher validity compared with Angus’s criteria and Martin’s criteria. Validity of the modified ICD-10 criteria was similar to eSOFA criteria. Abstract

Observations with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter array (ALMA) have dramatically improved our understanding of the site of exoplanet formation: protoplanetary discs. However, many basic properties of these discs are not well-understood. The most fundamental of these is the total disc mass, which sets the mass budget for planet formation. Discs with sufficiently high masses can excite gravitational instability and drive spiral arms that are detectable with ALMA . Although spirals have been detected in ALMA observations of the dust , their association with gravitational instability, and high disc masses, is far from clear. Here we report a prediction for kinematic evidence of gravitational instability. Using hydrodynamics simulations coupled with radiative transfer calculations, we show that a disc undergoing such instability has clear kinematic signatures in molecular line observations across the entire disc azimuth and radius which are independent of viewing angle. If these signatures are detected, it will provide the clearest evidence for the occurrence of gravitational instability in planet-forming discs, and provide a crucial way to measure disc masses., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, accepted to The Astrophysical Journal

Abstract

We present the first polarimetric detection of the inner disk component around the pre-main sequence B9.5 star HD 141569A. Gemini Planet Imager H-band (1.65 micron) polarimetric differential imaging reveals the highest signal-to-noise ratio detection of this ring yet attained and traces structure inwards to 0.25" (28 AU at a distance of 111 pc). The radial polarized intensity image shows the east side of the disk, peaking in intensity at 0.40" (44 AU) and extending out to 0.9" (100 AU). There is a spiral arm-like enhancement to the south, reminiscent of the known spiral structures on the outer rings of the disk. The location of the spiral arm is coincident with 12CO J=3-2 emission detected by ALMA, and hints at a dynamically active inner circumstellar region. Our observations also show a portion of the middle dusty ring at ~220 AU known from previous observations of this system. We fit the polarized H-band emission with a continuum radiative transfer Mie model. Our best-fit model favors an optically thin disk with a minimum dust grain size close to the blow-out size for this system: evidence of on-going dust production in the inner reaches of the disk. The thermal emission from this model accounts for virtually all of the far-infrared and millimeter flux from the entire HD 141569A disk, in agreement with the lack of ALMA continuum and CO emission beyond ~100 AU. Abstract

Over the past three decades instruments on the ground and in space have discovered thousands of planets outside the solar system. These observations have given rise to an astonishingly detailed picture of the demographics of short-period planets, but are incomplete at longer periods where both the sensitivity of transit surveys and radial velocity signals plummet. Even more glaring is that the spectra of planets discovered with these indirect methods are either inaccessible (radial velocity detections) or only available for a small subclass of transiting planets with thick, clear atmospheres. Direct detection can be used to discover and characterize the atmospheres of planets at intermediate and wide separations, including non-transiting exoplanets. Today, a small number of exoplanets have been directly imaged, but they represent only a rare class of young, self-luminous super-Jovian-mass objects orbiting tens to hundreds of AU from their host stars. Atmospheric characterization of planets in the <5 AU regime, where radial velocity (RV) surveys have revealed an abundance of other worlds, is technically feasible with 30-m class apertures in combination with an advanced AO system, coronagraph, and suite of spectrometers and imagers. There is a vast range of unexplored science accessible through astrometry, photometry, and spectroscopy of rocky planets, ice giants, and gas giants. Abstract

In recent years, the disk populations in a number of young star-forming regions have been surveyed with ALMA. Understanding the disk properties and their correlation with those of the central star is critical to understand planet formation. In particular, a decrease of the average measured disk dust mass with the age of the region has been observed. We conducted high-sensitivity continuum ALMA observations of 43 Class II young stellar objects in CrA at 1.3 mm (230 GHz). The typical spatial resolution is 0.3". The continuum fluxes are used to estimate the dust masses of the disks, and a survival analysis is performed to estimate the average dust mass. We also obtained new VLT/X-Shooter spectra for 12 of the objects in our sample. 24 disks are detected, and stringent limits have been put on the average dust mass of the non-detections. Accounting for the upper limits, the average disk mass in CrA is $6\pm3\,\rm M_\oplus$, significantly lower than that of disks in other young (1-3 Myr) star forming regions (e.g. Lupus) and appears consistent with the 5-10 Myr old Upper Sco. The position of the stars in our sample on the HR diagram, however, seems to confirm that that CrA has age similar to Lupus. Neither external photoevaporation nor a lower than usual stellar mass distribution can explain the low disk masses. On the other hand, a low-mass disk population could be explained if the disks are small, which could happen if the parent cloud has a low temperature or intrinsic angular momentum, or if the the angular momentum of the cloud is removed by some physical mechanism such as magnetic braking. The transdermal absorption of collagen and collagen liposomes were tested by an ex vivo horizontal Valia-Chien diffusion cell system.Results: We first demonstrated that collagen extracted from bovine Achilles tendon was type I collagen. The results of DLS measurement and TEM observation showed that the collagen liposomes were spherical in shape with average diameter (75.34± 0.93 nm) and maintained high stability at low temperature (4°C) for at least 42 days without toxicity. The encapsulation rate of collagen liposomes was 57.80 ± 0.51%, and SDS-PAGE analysis showed that collagen was intact in liposomes. Finally, permeability studies indicated that the collagen-loaded liposomes more easily penetrated the skin compared to collagen itself.Conclusion: This study proposed a new method to improve the bioavailability and permeability of bovine type I collagen, which improves the applicability of collagen in biomedicine, cosmeceuticals and pharmaceutical industries.Graphical Abstract: Keywords: collagen, liposome, physicochemical properties of collagen, skin penetration, drug delivery

Abstract

The DUNE IDR describes the proposed physics program and technical designs of the DUNE far detector modules in preparation for the full TDR to be published in 2019. It is intended as an intermediate milestone on the path to a full TDR, justifying the technical choices that flow down from the high-level physics goals through requirements at all levels of the Project. These design choices will enable the DUNE experiment to make the ground-breaking discoveries that will help to answer fundamental physics questions. Abstract

The DUNE IDR describes the proposed physics program and technical designs of the DUNE Far Detector modules in preparation for the full TDR to be published in 2019. It is intended as an intermediate milestone on the path to a full TDR, justifying the technical choices that flow down from the high-level physics goals through requirements at all levels of the Project. These design choices will enable the DUNE experiment to make the ground-breaking discoveries that will help to answer fundamental physics questions. Volume 1 contains an executive summary that describes the general aims of this document. The remainder of this first volume provides a more detailed description of the DUNE physics program that drives the choice of detector technologies. It also includes concise outlines of two overarching systems that have not yet evolved to consortium structures: computing and calibration. Volumes 2 and 3 of this IDR describe, for the single-phase and dual-phase technologies, respectively, each detector module's subsystems, the technical coordination required for its design, construction, installation, and integration, and its organizational structure., Comment: 83 pages, 11 figures

Unfortunately, increased incidences of cardiotoxicity have limited its use. Despite over a decade of research, the biological mechanisms underlying ibrutinib cardiotoxicity remain unclear. In this review, we discuss the pharmacological properties of ibrutinib, the incidence and mechanisms of ibrutinib-induced cardiotoxicity, and practical management to prevent and treat this condition. Respiratory pathology is a representative extraintestinal manifestation of UC affecting the quality of life of patients. Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD) is a classical traditional Chinese medicine prescription for UC or acute lung injury. This study was aimed to reveal the therapeutic effect of GQD on UC and its pulmonary complications and uncover its molecular mechanism mediated by myeloid cells and microbiota.Methods: Mice with DSS-induced colitis were orally administrated with GQD. Overall vital signs were assessed by body weight loss and disease activity index (DAI). Pulmonary general signs were evaluated by pulmonary pathology and lung function. The mechanism of GQD relieving UC was characterized by detecting myeloid cells (neutrophils, macrophages, inflammatory monocytes, and resident monocytes) in colonic and lung tissues, related inflammatory cytokines, as well as the microbiota in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and feces.Results: GQD significantly reduced weight loss, DAI scores, and lung injury but improved the lung function of colitis mice. The DSS-induced colonic and concurrent pulmonary inflammation were also alleviated by GQD, as indicated by the down-regulated expressions of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, CCR2, and CCL2) and the suppressed recruitment of neutrophils and inflammatory monocytes. Meanwhile, GQD greatly improved intestinal microbiota imbalance by enriching Ruminococcaceae UCG-013 while decreasing Parabacteroides, [Eubacterium]_fissicatena_group, and Akkermansia in the feces of colitis mice. Expectantly, GQD also restored lung microbiota imbalance by clearing excessive Coprococcus 2 and Ochrobactrum in the BALF of colitis mice. Finally, significant correlations appeared between GQD-mediated specific bacteria and inflammatory cytokines or immune cells.Conclusion: GQD could alleviate UC by decreasing excessive inflammatory myeloid cells and cytokines, and reshaping the microbiota between the colon and lung, which contributes to clarifying the mechanism by which GQD ameliorates colitis-associated pulmonary inflammation.Keywords: Gegen Qinlian Decoction, ulcerative colitis, lung and intestinal microbiota, pulmonary inflammation, myeloid cells

However, it remains uncertain whether LV structure has predictive implications in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled patients who had HFrEF and underwent CABG between January 2013 and July 2019. According to LV hypertrophy (LVH) and LV enlargement (LVE) assessed by echocardiography, patients were classified into four LV structure types: (-)LVH/(-)LVE, (+)LVH/(-)LVE, (-)LVH/(+)LVE, and (+)LVH/(+)LVE.Results: A total of 435 consecutive patients (mean age: 59.4 ± 9.6 years; 14.9% female) were enrolled in the present study. Examined independently, either LVH (p < 0.001) or LVE (p < 0.001) was independently associated with postoperative mortality in multivariate analysis. When LVH and LVE were analyzed in combination, the risk of mortality after CABG was lowest in (-)LVH/(-)LVE and increased with (+)LVH/(-)LVE (odds ratio [OR]: 7.525; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.827– 30.679, p = 0.004), (-)LVH/(+)LVE (OR: 7.253; 95% CI: 1.950– 27.185, p = 0.003), and (+)LVH/(+)LVE (OR: 9.547; 95% CI: 2.726– 34.805, p < 0.001), independent of other risk factors. Adding LV structural types to the baseline model gained an incremental effect on the predictive value for postoperative mortality (AUC: baseline model, 0.838 vs baseline model + LV structural types, 0.901, p for comparison = 0.010; category‐free net reclassification improvement (NRI): 0.764, p < 0.001; integrated discrimination improvement (IDI): 0.061, p = 0.007).Conclusion: LVH and LVE were associated with an increased risk of postoperative mortality after CABG in patients with HFrEF. Categorizing LV structural patterns with LVH and LVE contributes to risk stratification and provides incremental predictive ability. Xuanbai Chengqi decoction (XBCQ) is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription for the acute exacerbation of COPD. Here, we aimed to reveal the therapeutic effects of XBCQ administration and its molecular mechanisms mediated by Th17/Treg balance and gut microbiota.Methods: We determined the counts of Th17 and Treg cells in the serum of 15 COPD and 10 healthy subjects. Then, cigarette smoke extract-induced COPD mice were gavaged with low, middle, and high doses of XBCQ, respectively. Weight loss, pulmonary function and inflammation, Th17/Treg ratio, and gut microbiota were measured to evaluate the efficacy of XBCQ on COPD.Results: COPD patients had a higher Th17/Treg ratio in the serum than healthy controls, which was consistent with the results in the lung and colon of COPD mice. The middle dose of XBCQ (M-XBCQ) significantly decreased the weight loss and improved the pulmonary function (FEV0.2/FVC) in COPD mice. Moreover, M-XBCQ alleviated lung inflammation by rectifying the Th17/Treg imbalance, reducing the expressions of TNF-α, IL-1β, and MMP-9, and suppressing inflammatory cells infiltration. Meanwhile, M-XBCQ greatly improved the microbial homeostasis in COPD mice by accumulating probiotic Gordonibacter and Akkermansia but inhibiting the growth of pathogenic Streptococcus, which showed significant correlations with pulmonary injury.Conclusion: Oral M-XBCQ could alleviate COPD exacerbations by reshaping the gut microbiota and improving the Th17/Treg balance, which aids in elucidating the mechanism through which XBCQ as a therapy for COPD.Keywords: XBCQ, COPD, intestinal microbiota, Th17/Treg, pulmonary inflammation

Abstract

Dust trapping accelerates the coagulation of dust particles, and thus it represents an initial step toward the formation of planetesimals. We report $H$-band (1.6 um) linear polarimetric observations and 0.87 mm interferometric continuum observations toward a transitional disk around LkHa 330. As results, a pair of spiral arms were detected in the $H$-band emission and an asymmetric (potentially arm-like) structure was detected in the 0.87 mm continuum emission. We discuss the origin of the spiral arm and the asymmetric structure, and suggest that a massive unseen planet is the most plausible explanation. The possibility of dust trapping and grain growth causing the asymmetric structure was also investigated through the opacity index (beta) by plotting the observed SED slope between 0.87 mm from our SMA observation and 1.3 mm from literature. The results imply that grains are indistinguishable from ISM-like dust in the east side ($beta = 2.0 pm 0.5$), but much smaller in the west side $beta = 0.7^{+0.5}_{-0.4}$, indicating differential dust size distribution between the two sides of the disk. Combining the results of near-infrared and submillimeter observations, we conjecture that the spiral arms exist at the upper surface and an asymmetric structure resides in the disk interior. Future observations at centimeter wavelengths and differential polarization imaging in other bands (Y to K) with extreme AO imagers are required to understand how large dust grains form and to further explore the dust distribution in the disk., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, AJ accepted for publication

30. Quantifying the utility–privacy tradeoff in the internet of things

Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) promises many advantages in the control and monitoring of physical systems from both efficacy and efficiency perspectives. However, in the wrong hands, the data might pose a privacy threat. In this article, we consider the tradeoff between the operational value of data collected in the IoT and the privacy of consumers. We present a general framework for quantifying this tradeoff in the IoT, and focus on a smart grid application for a proof of concept. In particular, we analyze the tradeoff between smart grid operations and how often data are collected by considering a realistic direct-load control example using thermostatically controlled loads, and we give simulation results to show how its performance degrades as the sampling frequency decreases. Additionally, we introduce a new privacy metric, which we call inferential privacy. This privacy metric assumes a strong adversary model and provides an upper bound on the adversary’s ability to infer a private parameter, independent of the algorithm he uses. Combining these two results allows us to directly consider the tradeoff between better operational performance and consumer privacy.

Abstract

We present optical and near-infrared high-contrast images of the transitional disk HD 100546 taken with the Magellan Adaptive Optics system (MagAO) and the Gemini Planet Imager (GPI). GPI data include both polarized intensity and total intensity imagery, and MagAO data are taken in Simultaneous Differential Imaging mode at Hα. The new GPI H-band total intensity data represent a significant enhancement in sensitivity and field rotation compared to previous data sets and enable a detailed exploration of substructure in the disk. The data are processed with a variety of differential imaging techniques (polarized, angular, reference, and simultaneous differential imaging) in an attempt to identify the disk structures that are most consistent across wavelengths, processing techniques, and algorithmic parameters. The inner disk cavity at 15 au is clearly resolved in multiple data sets, as are a variety of spiral features. While the cavity and spiral structures are identified at levels significantly distinct from the neighboring regions of the disk under several algorithms and with a range of algorithmic parameters, emission at the location of HD 100546 "c" varies from point-like under aggressive algorithmic parameters to a smooth continuous structure with conservative parameters, and is consistent with disk emission. Features identified in the HD 100546 disk bear qualitative similarity to computational models of a moderately inclined two-armed spiral disk, where projection effects and wrapping of the spiral arms around the star result in a number of truncated spiral features in forward-modeled images.

Abstract

Directly detecting thermal emission from young extrasolar planets allows measurement of their atmospheric composition and luminosity, which is influenced by their formation mechanism. Using the Gemini Planet Imager, we discovered a planet orbiting the \$sim$20 Myr-old star 51 Eridani at a projected separation of 13 astronomical units. Near-infrared observations show a spectrum with strong methane and water vapor absorption. Modeling of the spectra and photometry yields a luminosity of L/LS=1.6-4.0 x 10-6 and an effective temperature of 600-750 K. For this age and luminosity, "hot-start" formation models indicate a mass twice that of Jupiter. Its safety and efficacy should be evaluated fully via well-designed, randomized, control trials. The main objective of our study is to compare the ERAS protocol with the conventional perioperative care program after gynecological oncology. Furthermore, the secondary objectives of our study are the identification of markers that allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of ERAS elements in the modulation of the body’s response to surgical stress.Methods: Patients with gynecological tumors indicated for surgery were randomly assigned to either the ERAS group or the conventional group. The ERAS protocol included short fasting time, fluid restriction, early oral feeding, reduced opioid consumption and immediate mobilization after surgery. The primary endpoint was the reduction of hospital stay in the ERAS group. The day of first flatus, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), maximum pain score by the visual analogue scale (VAS) and complication, readmission rate, reoperation rate, postoperative mortality, total hospital cost and systemic inflammatory response (SIR) were secondary endpoints.Results: A total of 130 patients in gynecological tumor surgery were enrolled (ERAS = 65, conventional = 65). The ERAS group had faster bowel function recovery, significantly less pain, less PONV, shorter hospital stay, and less total hospital costs. SIR markers were estimated and screened out that postoperative platelet, neutrophil-lymphocyte-ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte-ratio (PLR) were significantly lower in ERAS groups compared to conventional groups.Conclusion: The implementation of ERAS protocol is safe and enhances postoperative recovery after gynecological oncology surgery. We firstly reveal the beneficial effect of ERAS protocols on the alleviation of postoperative SIR, which is a reflection of the magnitude of surgical trauma. POD may be affected by different fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2). The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different FiO2 on POD.Patients and Methods: A randomized, double-blind controlled trial was performed in Qingdao Municipal Hospital Affiliated to Qingdao University. A total of 662 patients aged 65 to 85 years old underwent isolated laparoscopic radical gastrectomy, radical resection of colon cancer, or radical resection of rectal cancer only. A random number table method was used to divide the patients into two groups: 40% FiO2 (group A) and 80% FiO2 (group B). The primary endpoint was the incidence of POD, which was assessed by the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) twice daily during the first 7 postoperative days, and POD severity was measured by the Memorial Delirium Assessment Scale (MDAS). The secondary endpoints were the intraoperative regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2), Bispectral (BIS) index, invasive arterial blood pressure (IABP), oxygen saturation (SpO2), end-tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure (PETCO2), the number of atelectasis cases and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores on days 1– 7 after surgery.Results: The incidence of POD was 19.37% (122/630), including 20.38% (64/314) in group A and 18.35% (58/316) in group B. No statistical significance was found in the incidence of POD between the two groups (P > 0.05); compared with group B, SpO2, rSO2 and PaO2 decreased at T2 to T4 time point (P < 0.01), and the incidence of postoperative atelectasis decreased (P < 0.05) in group A.Conclusion: The incidence of POD was not significantly affected by different FiO2 and the incidence of postoperative atelectasis was decreased at low FiO2.Keywords: intraoperative oxygen concentration, postoperative delirium, malignancy

Abstract

The formation scenario of a gapped disk, i.e., transitional disk, and its asymmetry is still under debate. Proposed scenarios such as disk-planet interaction, photoevaporation, grain growth, anticyclonic vortex, eccentricity, and their combinations would result in different radial distributions of the gas and the small (sub-$\mu$m size) and large (millimeter size) dust grains as well as asymmetric structures in a disk. Optical/near-infrared (NIR) imaging observations and (sub-)millimeter interferometry can trace small and large dust grains, respectively; therefore multi-wavelength observations could help elucidate the origin of complicated structures of a disk. Here we report SMA observations of the dust continuum at 1.3~mm and $^{12}$CO~$J=2\rightarrow1$ line emission of the pre-transitional protoplanetary disk around the solar-mass star PDS~70. PDS~70, a weak-lined T Tauri star, exhibits a gap in the scattered light from its disk with a radius of $\sim$65~AU at NIR wavelengths. However, we found a larger gap in the disk with a radius of $\sim$80~AU at 1.3~mm. Emission from all three disk components (the gas and the small and large dust grains) in images exhibits a deficit in brightness in the central region of the disk, in particular, the dust-disk in small and large dust grains has asymmetric brightness. The contrast ratio of the flux density in the dust continuum between the peak position to the opposite side of the disk reaches 1.4. We suggest the asymmetries and different gap-radii of the disk around PDS~70 are potentially formed by several (unseen) accreting planets inducing dust filtration., Comment: Accepted by ApJ

And, oxidation/antioxidant imbalance plays an important role in the progress of IPF. Fullerene is considered to be a novel “structural” antioxidant. This study aimed to explore if water-soluble C60 (C60(OH)22) can exhibit antifibrotic activity in its antioxidant role.Methods: Healthy C57BL/6J mice were randomly grouped and induced pulmonary fibrosis by intratracheal injection of bleomycin.Results: The survival rate of mice was observed and found that 10mg/kg was the optimal dose of water-soluble C60 for pulmonary fibrosis. We observed that water-soluble C60 can alleviate the severity of pulmonary fibrosis by observing the chest computed tomography, pulmonary pathology, and content of collagen, alpha smooth muscle actin and fibronectin in lung. Compared with bleomycin group, ROS, the content of TNF-α in BALF, and the number of fibroblasts was significantly decreased and the number of type Ⅱ alveolar epithelial cells was increased after treatment with C60.Conclusion: Therefore, thanks to its powerful antioxidant action, water-soluble C60 can reduce the severity of pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin in mice.Keywords: pulmonary fibrosis, bleomycin, water-soluble C60, mice

Abstract

We present H- and K-band imaging polarimetry for the PDS 66 circumstellar disk obtained during the commissioning of the Gemini Planet Imager (GPI). Polarization images reveal a clear detection of the disk in to the 0.″12 inner working angle (IWA) in the H band, almost three times closer to the star than the previous Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations with NICMOS and STIS (0.″35 effective IWA). The centro-symmetric polarization vectors confirm that the bright inner disk detection is due to circumstellar scattered light. A more diffuse disk extends to a bright outer ring centered at 80 AU. We discuss several physical mechanisms capable of producing the observed ring + gap structure. GPI data confirm enhanced scattering on the east side of the disk that is inferred to be nearer to us. We also detect a lateral asymmetry in the south possibly due to shadowing from material within the IWA. This likely corresponds to a temporally variable azimuthal asymmetry observed in HST/STIS coronagraphic imaging.

Abstract

Future mobile networks should provide on-demand services for various industries and applications with the stringent guarantees of quality of experience (QoE), which highly challenge the flexibility of network management. However, the diverse requirements of QoE and the management of heterogeneous networks create significant pressure towards communication service providers (CSPs). In the 6th generation mobile networks, the CSPs should guarantee resilient performance for the communication service consumers with less human involvement. In this work, we turn to intent-driven network and on-demand slice management, and to decrease the complexity and cost in full life cycle slice management, we first present an intent-driven closed-loop (CL) control and management framework that automates the deployment of network slices and manages resources intelligently based on the extended CL architecture. And then, we explore and exploit the deep reinforcement learning algorithm to address the problem of resource allocation, which is formulated as a Markov decision process. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed framework by deploying the open radio access network (RAN) infrastructure in OpenAirInterface platform and realizing the CL control and management with near real-time RAN intelligent controller. The emulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of slicing performance, measured in terms of delay and rate.

Abstract

We present the first scattered light detections of the HD 106906 debris disk using the Gemini/Gemini Planet Imager in the infrared and Hubble Space Telescope (HST)/Advanced Camera for Surveys in the optical. HD 106906 is a 13 Myr old F5V star in the Sco-Cen association, with a previously detected planet-mass candidate HD 106906b projected 650 AU from the host star. Our observations reveal a near edge-on debris disk that has a central cleared region with radius ∼50 AU, and an outer extent >500 AU. The HST data show that the outer regions are highly asymmetric, resembling the "needle" morphology seen for the HD 15115 debris disk. The planet candidate is oriented ∼21° away from the position angle of the primary's debris disk, strongly suggesting non-coplanarity with the system. We hypothesize that HD 106906b could be dynamically involved in the perturbation of the primary's disk, and investigate whether or not there is evidence for a circumplanetary dust disk or cloud that is either primordial or captured from the primary. We show that both the existing optical properties and near-infrared colors of HD 106906b are weakly consistent with this possibility, motivating future work to test for the observational signatures of dust surrounding the planet.

Abstract

Directly detecting thermal emission from young extrasolar planets allows measurement of their atmospheric compositions and luminosities, which are influenced by their formation mechanisms. Using the Gemini Planet Imager, we discovered a planet orbiting the ~20-million-year-old star 51 Eridani at a projected separation of 13 astronomical units. Near-infrared observations show a spectrum with strong methane and water-vapor absorption. Modeling of the spectra and photometry yields a luminosity (normalized by the luminosity of the Sun) of 1.6 to 4.0 × 10(-6) and an effective temperature of 600 to 750 kelvin. For this age and luminosity, "hot-start" formation models indicate a mass twice that of Jupiter. This planet also has a sufficiently low luminosity to be consistent with the "cold-start" core-accretion process that may have formed Jupiter.

Abstract

We have updated our publicly available dust radiative transfer code (HOCHUNK3D) to include new emission processes and various 3-D geometries appropriate for forming stars. The 3-D geometries include warps and spirals in disks, accretion hotspots on the central star, fractal clumping density enhancements, and misaligned inner disks. Additional axisymmetric (2-D) features include gaps in disks and envelopes, "puffed-up inner rims" in disks, multiple bipolar cavity walls, and iteration of disk vertical structure assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. We include the option for simple power-law envelope geometry, which combined with fractal clumping, and bipolar cavities, can be used to model evolved stars as well as protostars. We include non-thermal emission from PAHs and very small grains, and external illumination from the interstellar radiation field. The grid structure was modified to allow multiple dust species in each cell; based on this, a simple prescription is implemented to model dust stratification. We describe these features in detail, and show example calculations of each. Some of the more interesting results include the following: 1) Outflow cavities may be more clumpy than infalling envelopes. 2) PAH emission in high-mass stars may be a better indicator of evolutionary stage than the broadband SED slope; and related to this, 3) externally illuminated clumps and high-mass stars in optically thin clouds can masquerade as YSOs. 4) Our hydrostatic equilibrium models suggest that dust settling is likely ubiquitous in T Tauri disks, in agreement with previous observations., Comment: 44 pages, 31 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in ApJS

Abstract

Continuous-Time Quantum Monte Carlo (CT-QMC) method combined with Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT) is used to calculate both Periodic Anderson Model (PAM) and Kondo Lattice Model (KLM). Different parameter sets of both models are connected by the Schrieffer-Wolff transformation. For degeneracy N=2, a special particle-hole symmetric case of PAM at half filling which always fixes one electron per impurity site is compared with the results of the KLM. We find a good mapping between PAM and KLM in the limit of large on-site Hubbard interaction U for different properties like self-energy, quasiparticle residue and susceptibility. This allows us to extract quasiparticle mass renormalizations for the f electrons directly from KLM. The method is further applied to higher degenerate case and to realsitic heavy fermion system CeRhIn5 in which the estimate of the Sommerfeld coefficient is proven to be close to the experimental value.

Abstract

We present the first near-IR scattered light detection of the transitional disk associated with the Herbig Ae star MWC 758 using data obtained as part of the Strategic Exploration of Exoplanets and Disks with Subaru, and 1.1 micron HST/NICMOS data. While sub-millimeter studies suggested there is a dust-depleted cavity with r=0.35, we find scattered light as close as 0.1 (20-28 AU) from the star, with no visible cavity at H, K', or Ks. We find two small-scaled spiral structures which asymmetrically shadow the outer disk. We model one of the spirals using spiral density wave theory, and derive a disk aspect ratio of h ~ 0.18, indicating a dynamically warm disk. If the spiral pattern is excited by a perturber, we estimate its mass to be 5+3,-4 Mj, in the range where planet filtration models predict accretion continuing onto the star. Using a combination of non-redundant aperture masking data at L' and angular differential imaging with Locally Optimized Combination of Images at K' and Ks, we exclude stellar or massive brown dwarf companions within 300 mas of the Herbig Ae star, and all but planetary mass companions exterior to 0.5. We reach 5-sigma contrasts limiting companions to planetary masses, 3-4 MJ at 1.0 and 2 MJ at 1.55 using the COND models. Abstract

We report high-resolution (0.07 arcsec) near-infrared polarized intensity images of the circumstellar disk around the star 2MASS J16042165-2130284 obtained with HiCIAO mounted on the Subaru 8.2 m telescope. We present our $H$-band data, which clearly exhibits a resolved, face-on disk with a large inner hole for the first time at infrared wavelengths. We detect the centrosymmetric polarization pattern in the circumstellar material as has been observed in other disks. Elliptical fitting gives the semimajor axis, semiminor axis, and position angle (P.A.) of the disk as 63 AU, 62 AU, and -14 $^{\circ}$, respectively. The disk is asymmetric, with one dip located at P.A.s of $\sim85^{\circ}$. Our observed disk size agrees well with a previous study of dust and CO emission at submillimeter wavelength with Submillimeter Array. Hence, the near-infrared light is interpreted as scattered light reflected from the inner edge of the disk. Our observations also detect an elongated arc (50 AU) extending over the disk inner hole. It emanates at the inner edge of the western side of the disk, extending inward first, then curving to the northeast. We experimentally verify the quantum non-Gaussian character of a conditionally generated noisy squeezed single-photon state with positive Wigner function. Employing an optimized witness based on probabilities of squeezed vacuum and squeezed single-photon states we prove that the state cannot be expressed as a mixture of Gaussian states. In our experiment, the non-Gaussian state is generated by conditional subtraction of a single photon from squeezed vacuum state. The state is probed with a homodyne detector and the witness is determined by averaging a suitable pattern function over the measured homodyne data. Abstract

We present H-band polarimetric imagery of UX Tau A taken with HiCIAO/AO188 on the Subaru Telescope. UX Tau A has been classified as a pre-transitional disk object, with a gap structure separating its inner and outer disks. Our imagery taken with the 0.15 (21 AU) radius coronagraphic mask has revealed a strongly polarized circumstellar disk surrounding UX Tau A which extends to 120 AU, at a spatial resolution of 0.1 (14 AU). It is inclined by 46 \pm 2 degree as the west side is nearest. Although SED modeling and sub-millimeter imagery suggested the presence of a gap in the disk, with the inner edge of the outer disk estimated to be located at 25 - 30 AU, we detect no evidence of a gap at the limit of our inner working angle (23 AU) at the near-infrared wavelength. We attribute the observed strong polarization (up to 66 %) to light scattering by dust grains in the disk. However, neither polarization models of the circumstellar disk based on Rayleigh scattering nor Mie scattering approximations were consistent with the observed azimuthal profile of the polarization degrees of the disk. Instead, a geometric optics model of the disk with nonspherical grains with the radii of 30 micron meter is consistent with the observed profile. We suggest that the dust grains have experienced frequent collisional coagulations and have grown in the circumstellar disk of UX Tau A., Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures, and 1 table. accepted to PASJ
