Background: Mother's milk provides optimal nutrition for infants. Donor human milk (DHM) is recommended for low birthweight infants when mother's milk is unavailable. Little is known about human milk (HM) donation practices in New Zealand (NZ), where few HM banks are available. This study aimed to investigate parents' and health professionals' (HP) experiences with formal and informal HM donation in NZ. Methods: Two electronic surveys were disseminated in 2022 to parents and HPs involved with HM donation in NZ. The surveys covered respondents' views and experiences with HM donation. HPs were also asked about HM donation practices in their workplace. Chi-squared and Fisher-Freeman-Halton exact tests were used for quantitative analysis and qualitative data were thematically analysed using inductive approach. Results: A total of 232 HP and 496 parents completed the surveys. Most parents either donated (52%) or sought DHM (26%) for their infant and most donations were informal, arranged between individuals (52%) or through hospital staff (22%). HP reported DHM was used in 86% of facilities, with only 20% of donations facilitated by HM banks. Almost half (48%) of HP stated they would like to use DHM in their workplace but access was limited. The most common screening processes undertaken by parents and HP before informal HM donation were lifestyle including smoking status, medication, drug and alcohol intake (44% and 36%, respectively) and serological screening such as CMV, HIV, Hepatitis C or B (30% and 39%, respectively). Pasteurisation of DHM obtained informally was not common. Most donors were satisfied with their HM donation experiences (informal and/or formal, 91%) and most respondents supported use of DHM in hospitals and community. Participants reported HM donation could be improved (e.g., better access) and identified potential benefits (e.g., species-specific nutrition) and risks (e.g., pathogens) for the infant. Potential benefits for the donor were also identified (e.g., altruism), but respondents acknowledged potential negative impacts (e.g., cost). Conclusion: Informal HM donation in NZ is common. Little is known regarding milk bank donors and how their characteristics may influence the particularities of the donation process. The present study aims to assess characteristics of donors and their newborns to identify associations with the amount of DHM and initiation and donation time, during the first and second year of the milk bank operation in Córdoba, Spain. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in three periods: pre-opening of the milk bank (PRE) including all women who gave birth to a newborn between January – May 2017 and were hospital users; donors in the first year after the opening (Period 1 (P1): April 2019 – March 2020); and in the second year (P2: April 2020 – March 2021). For P1 and P2, DHM data were recorded. The relationships between donor and newborn characteristics and the donation process were examined using univariable and regression models. Results: From 391 women interviewed in the PRE period, 55 (14%) showed intention to donate. In P1 and P2, there were 51 and 25 human milk (HM) donors, respectively. Age, gestational age (GA) and parity were similar between periods. In P2, a higher proportion of donors had higher education (P1: 46%; P2: 70.8%, p = 0.045). Around 40% of donors in both periods were on maternity leave. In P1, donors who had low birth weight infants (< 2500 g) donated more HM than those with infants weighing ≥ 2500 g (p = 0.020). In P2, women whose GA was < 37 weeks donated a higher volume vs. those with ≥ 37 weeks (p = 0.002). Maternity leave was linked to a shorter initiation time for donations in both periods (P1: p = 0.002; P2: p < 0.001). Conclusions: Data obtained from a Spanish human milk bank indicate that prematurity and low birth weight appear to influence the amounts of DHM. Employment status might be a decisive factor in initiating HM donation. Additional efforts are required to identify shared donor characteristics that influence the initiation and volume of donation. Background: Medical colleges in Central India often face shortages of cadavers for anatomical education, hindering the development of future doctors' practical skills. Whole body donation programs offer a potential solution, but their impact in this region remains unexplored. Objective: This study investigates the influence of whole body donation programs on medical colleges in Central India. Methods: A mixed-methods approach will be employed. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys of medical educators and students of Ram Krishna Medical College Hosptal and Research Centre, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh to assess the perceived impact of whole body donation on practical skill development, curriculum effectiveness, and student confidence. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews with key stakeholders involved in donation programs to understand challenges and opportunities. Expected Outcomes: The study aims to reveal how whole body donation programs contribute to: • Enhanced practical anatomical training for medical students. • Development of more competent and confident future doctors. • Identification of potential challenges associated with these programs in the Central Indian context. Implications: This research will provide valuable insights for medical colleges considering the implementation or expansion of whole body donation programs. Background: Christian mission hospitals provide critical assistance to communities that need their services the most, yet they often lack the financial and human resources needed to realize their full potential for community impact. Existing charity rating organizations rate few charities and lack transparency for donors, and limited resources exist to help volunteers find organizations that would benefit from their services the most. The objective of this article is to develop a transparent Transformational Impact Rating System (TIRS) that can be used by funding agencies and volunteer directing agencies to assess the potential for transformational impact of any hospital anywhere in the world. Methods: Research to inform the rating system was conducted via a comprehensive review of existing charity rating systems and literature, in-depth interviews, and surveys. TIRS was developed by identifying, selecting, categorizing, and allocating weights to variables. TIRS was implemented via a custom-built website to enable future testing and evolution. Results: A rating system was developed that generates an overall hospital score and scores in each of five categories (regional impact potential, financial health, operational performance, external relations, and volunteer experience) based on data collected from the hospital and surveys of donors, volunteers, staff, patients, and the local community. Discussion: TIRS in its current state is a proof of concept that demonstrates data-driven decision-making for funding and staffing hospitals with high potential for transformational impact. TIRS can be modified for future applications. Conclusion: TIRS provides a proof-of-concept system through which all hospitals in low-resource settings can make their impact potential visible to donors and volunteers. If TIRS (with suggested modifications) is used by those interested in helping mission hospitals, invisible hospitals that are struggling in remote areas will be more likely to receive much-needed resources. TIRS can help direct declining funds and manpower to hospitals that have the highest potential for transformational impact.

Introduction. Perinatal loss is a profoundly stirring event that affects various areas of society, from women and their partners to health professionals and society as a whole. Unfortunately, in caring for women experiencing perinatal bereavement, information and support related to breastfeeding is often overlooked, which can increase their feelings of grief and anxiety. However, breast milk donation has been recognised as a valuable option that can play a significant role in the bereavement process. Aim. To review the existing literature on the impact of milk donation after perinatal loss, its role in the bereavement process and its implications. Methods. Literature search of PubMed, Cochrane and PsycINFO databases to identify studies addressing milk donation, perinatal loss and women’s experiences. Results. Based on seven qualitative papers, they highlighted the need for breastfeeding support for mothers in perinatal bereavement, as well as the lack of sensitive and non-judgmental communication by health professionals. Conclusion. Breastfeeding can play an essential role in the perinatal bereavement process, validating maternal identity and generating meaningful memories. The importance of addressing breastfeeding inhibition on an individualised basis and improving the training of health professionals to provide comprehensive support is emphasised.

Protected areas (PAs) such as national parks face funding issues that undermine effective management. Therefore, many PAs are exploring new financial instruments, such as visitor donations, to supplement their conservation budgets. This paper investigates visitor perceptions of one such system, a new conservation donation under consideration in Aso Kuju National Park, southwest Japan, is due to be introduced. Our on-site survey at two trailheads in autumn 2022 gauged visitors’ willingness to pay (WTP) the expected JPY 500 donation. The analysis used Bayesian linear regression to look for significant predictors of WTP. Findings show that female, older, and higher-income visitors were more likely to pay the donation collectively rather than voluntarily. Prior knowledge of the donation system was also a significant predictor of WTP, but more frequent climbers were significantly less likely to pay the donation collectively, regardless of prior Kuju climbing experience, possibly due to the perceived increase in use costs. Moreover, visitors willing to pay the cooperation donation collectively are also willing to pay higher prices than those willing to pay voluntarily. The elicited WTP values confirm that the implementation of a new conservation donation could help to improve the long-term sustainable financing of PAs such as Aso Kuju while raising issues over price fairness.

Background: Many national studies in Saudi Arabia have revealed a lack of knowledge about eye donation. The current study assessed awareness and attitudes towards eye donation among health faculty students in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It aims to increase their awareness as future healthcare providers are expected to raise general awareness to attain more local corneal donations. Methods: A cross-sectional study including 1,060 health faculty students was conducted at King Abdulaziz University. Data were collected through an online questionnaire that covered participants' demographics, academic year, knowledge, and attitudes regarding eye donation. Results: Thirty-five percent of students had heard about eye donation, with the most common sources of information being social media (29%) and health workers (24%). Most respondents, 61% (n = 643), indicated willingness to donate their eyes after death. Of these respondents, 93% (n = 986), 6.8% (n = 72), and 0.2% (n = 2) had poor, fair, and good knowledge levels, respectively. A total of 66% (n = 696) and 34% (n = 364) had negative and positive attitudes, respectively. Conclusion: Students in this study showed low levels of knowledge and negative attitudes about eye donation. Students should be adequately educated about the significance of eye donation. The governments' isolation measures to contain the transmission of COVID-19 imposed a dilemma for the people at the bottom of the pyramid. Since these people have very unreliable sources of income, a dilemma arises: they must either work under risky conditions or refrain from work and suffer from income cuts. Emergency donations of food and cleaning supplies in a pandemic context might be overlooked by government and civil society actors. This paper aims to model the effects of donations on mitigating the negative effects of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities. Applying the system dynamics method, we simulated the behaviour of the pandemic in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) communities and the impacts that donations of food and cleaning supplies have in these settings. We administered surveys to the beneficiaries and local organisations responsible for the final distribution of donations to gather information from the field operations. The results show that increasing access to cleaning supplies in communities through donations can significantly reduce coronavirus transmission, particularly in high-density and low-resource areas, such as slums in urban settings. In addition, we also show that food donations can increase the vulnerable population's ability to afford necessities, alleviating the stress caused by the pandemic on this portion of the population. Therefore, this work helps decision-makers (such as government and non-governmental organisations) understand the impacts of donations on controlling outbreaks, especially under COVID-19 conditions, in a low-resource environment and, thus, aid these hard-to-reach populations in a pandemic setting. This study aimed to examine the effects of volunteer management and personality on volunteer job satisfaction, intention to donate, and quality of life based on an environmental psychology model. A total of 238 responses were collected from students who took a mandatory volunteering course offered by a university in Singapore. It is the limitation of this study, as we only collected data from students who participated in the mandatory volunteering course offered by a university in Singapore. This study conducted confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling analysis. Results showed that volunteer management and personality had positive effects on volunteer job satisfaction, which increased their compulsory intention to donate and their quality of life. In addition, personality played a moderating role in the relationship between volunteer management and volunteer job satisfaction. These findings suggest that organizations involved in compulsory volunteer programs should look at the interaction between personality and its management climate to enhance volunteer satisfaction, and in turn, foster intention to donate. Human rights have transcended the realm of individual-state relations, becoming a constructive element of state legal systems and promoting the integration of social and legal relations, leading to the emergence of previously unknown human rights. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a legal understanding of them, considering contemporary realities. The purpose of the study is to describe and characterise the latest human rights within the framework of the general theory of law and the state. The methodological basis of the study is civilisation and socio-philosophical approaches, within which analysis, synthesis, and modelling methods were used. The essence of distinguishing generations of human rights boils down to the gradual realisation and resolution of issues of human legal status in a changing reality. Social relations, complicated by historical development, will give rise to new problems in human legal status. Attention is drawn to the close connection of human rights with the sphere of health protection, which arose as a result of scientific and technological achievements in biology and medicine, discussing rights to artificial insemination, euthanasia, organ transplantation, cloning, and gender change. The impact on fundamental human rights through the digitisation of law is analysed. The idea of the universality of human rights harmoniously interacts with the universality of digital technologies, so in the era of digitisation, the content of human rights and the related values do not change, and human rights themselves can become a unifying target perspective in determining attitudes towards new technologies. The main trends in the development of human rights in the conditions of globalisation are modelled, including the universalisation and unification of human rights, the complication of mechanisms for ensuring human rights at the international level, and the increasing importance of judicial law in protecting human rights at the supranational level. The paper focuses on the dependence of globalisation processes on transforming national legal systems in war conditions. The practical value of the study lies in its potential to incorporate the trends in human rights development within the context of globalisation into specific topics covered in courses on state and legal theory, philosophy of law, and the creation of relevant educational and methodological resources

Abstract Background Since the biological material that remains after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures plays crucial role in biobank research, this study aims to explore cancer patients’ views on the donation of biospecimens for research purposes. Methods 548 oncology patients from two hospitals with oncology treatment units in Poznan, Poland, completed an anonymous, self-administered pen-and-paper questionnaire. Results Although only 43.4% of patients had heard of biobanks, 93.1% declared themselves willing to donate. 71.1% of patients believed that doctors should ask patients to donate, and 60.9% that this should be done before the medical procedure. While 65% of patients were willing to donate any type of tissue that remained after a medical procedure, blood, saliva and hair were indicated most frequently. 40.5% of patients would donate their entire body after death and 21% would refuse. Patients’ support for biobanks was mainly driven by the desire to support science, help advance cancer research and altruism. Some respondents expected health information or medical treatment. The most common barriers for donation were physical distance, repeated examinations, concerns over the privacy and confidentiality of data and the commercial or unethical use of samples. Patients’ attitudes toward biobank donation seemed to be associated with age, education level, declared religiousness, a family history of genetically determined diseases and whether they were a blood donor. Conclusions Although cancer patients’ lack of biobank awareness had no effect on their affirmative attitudes towards biobank research, there is a need to further increase patients’ support and overcome possible barriers that might hinder their willingness to donate.

Background and Aim: Considering the role of social workers in the health system, the success and stability of organ transplantation, prevention of re-hospitalization of patients and reduction of imposed costs, this study aims to design a protocol for the specialized interventions of social workers in Iran’s medical centers in the transplant process and to create uniformity in practice. Comprehensive services have been provided to patients and their caregivers. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in two phases of resource review and qualitative. In the resource review phase, reliable databases were examined, and in the qualitative phase, in order to collect information from Delphi techniques and focused group discussion with the presence of fifteen officials and social workers working in the country’s hospitals and experts and experts. The areas of health and treatment assistants of the Ministry of Health, university professors, medical staff and experts in the field of transplantation and organ donation were carried out. The protocol was sent to eight experienced experts for final review and evaluation, and they were asked to review the protocol in terms of the goal and scope of interventions, stakeholders, development steps, clarity of presentation, accessibility and non-dependence in writing according to the checklist to evaluate. Results: In this study, the work process of social workers was drawn in three stages before, during and after transplantation. Also, various roles were considered for social workers in three stages of work, including the role of defender, supporter, case manager, resource mobilizer, trainer, consultant, evaluator and guidance. Interventions such as finding informational support, facilitating the patient hospitalization process, providing psychosocial support to the family with the aim of empowering them for post-transplant care, providing counseling to family members to deal with stress and improving mental health of the patient, providing economic support, Accomodation conditions are provided through hospital companions and communication and interaction with the treatment team, including the doctor, in order to respond to the needs of the family, facilitate treatment and on time discharging. Conclusion: the protocol of specialized interventions of social workers in the transplantation process created a new step and a different look at psychosocial support in transplantation and coordination teams, so that social workers in the field of organ donation and transplantation and working with caregivers, families and the survivors of the patients arrived.

Abstract Background Approaching families of dying or newly deceased patients to donate organs requires specialized knowledge and a mastery of relational communication. As the transplantation field has progressed, Donation Professionals (DPs) are also leading conversations with family decision makers (FDMs) about the donation of uncommon anatomical gifts, such as face, hands, genitalia, referred to as Vascularized Composite Allotransplants (VCA) without much training or experience. To address the need for training, we adapted and beta tested an evidenced-based communication training program for donation discussions to VCA requests. The overarching goal of Communicating Effectively about Donation for Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (CEaD-VCA) is to increase the number of VCA authorizations and to improve the socioemotional outcomes of FDMs. Methods We developed CEaD-VCA, an online, on-demand training program based on the previously tested, evidenced-based communication skills training program designed to train DPs to have conversations about solid organ donation. The training was modified utilizing data from a national telephone survey with DPs and results of 6 focus groups conducted with members of the general public. The survey and focus groups assessed knowledge, attitudes, and barriers to VCA donation. The training was shaped by a partnership with a leading industry partner, the Gift of Life Institute.™ Results Using the results as a guide, the existing CEaD training program, consisting of interactive eLearning modules, was adapted to include technical information about VCA, foundational communication skills, and two interactive example VCA donation request scenarios to facilitate active learning. Forty-two DPs from two partner Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) participated in the beta test of CEaD-VCA. Pre- and post-test surveys assessed the impact of the training. Conclusions The training was scored highly by DPs in effectiveness and ease of use. This project created a standardized, accessible, and comprehensive training for DPs to communicate about VCA donation. CEaD-VCA is an example of how to develop a communication skills training for difficult conversations utilizing input from stakeholders, guided by communication theory. It also demonstrates how gaps in communication skills during medical education can be filled utilizing advanced online Learning Management Systems. The training specifically addresses new CMS rules concerning OPO performance metrics.

In 2019, the National Health Commission of China announced a nation-wide plan to incorporate blood donation into the country's emerging informational infrastructure: the social credit system (SCS). Through analysis of comments from Weibo, one of China's largest social media sites, alongside news articles and official government announcements from the time, we follow the figure of the basket, which we regard as vernacular critique. By analysing the formation of trust indicators, contestations over their commensurability, and the prospect of converting between moral deeds and financial advantage, we aim to augment understandings of the ways that quantification practices are, and become, moral projects. The choice funding scheme is an important design dimension in crowdfunding for which platforms should not assume that they are restricted to the use of one funding scheme. In particular, we find that the addition of a donation scheme can increase the success rate of reward campaigns substantially, especially those with prosocial causes. In addition, the donation received is found to have a crowd-in effect on subsequent contributions. To get the most out of donation schemes, crowdfunding sites should provide features that help backers locate reward campaigns for prosocial causes, for example, by providing tags or search filters related to prosocial causes. Second, campaign owners should take steps to highlight the prosocial aspects of their crowdfunding campaign, for example, by revising campaign descriptions to include prosocial keywords/tags. Third, campaign owners should play a more active role in encouraging early donations to enjoy the crowd-in effect that could help their campaigns reach the targeted funding amount. Specifically, the owner's direct social network is a potentially good source for soliciting these early donations. Relatedly, the campaign owners could benefit by spreading the word about the early donations they receive so as to generate a greater crowd-in effect at later phases of the crowdfunding process. Motivated by the adoption of donation schemes at some leading reward-based crowdfunding platforms, we examine the effect of adding a donation scheme to reward-based crowdfunding and explore its underlying mechanisms. This work also helps to fill the knowledge gap on the role of funding schemes. Leveraging an unannounced site change at a leading crowdfunding platform, we estimated the impact of introducing the donation scheme by developing and applying a novel two-step matching and difference-in-differences technique for cohorted quasi-experimental settings. We find that the introduction of the donation scheme increased the success rate of reward campaigns by 19%. The increased success occurred mainly in reward campaigns with prosocial causes. Further analyses of underlying mechanisms reveal that the increased campaign success came mainly from campaigns that received donations. The added donation channel not only had a primary effect, as evidenced by a third of campaigns attracting donations, but also a secondary "crowd-in" effect on the reward channel, as shown by a positive impact of early donations on subsequent contributions through the reward channel, beyond the known effects of early contributions. Our findings suggest that, for reward campaigns with prosocial causes, the addition of a donation channel not only provides a better fit for some backers of reward campaigns, but also inspires others to be more willing to contribute through the reward channel. Background and Aim: Considering the role of social workers in the health system, the success and stability of organ transplantation, prevention of re-hospitalization of patients and reduction of imposed costs, this study aims to design a protocol for the specialized interventions of social workers in Iran’s medical centers in the transplant process and to create uniformity in practice. Comprehensive services have been provided to patients and their caregivers. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in two phases of resource review and qualitative. In the resource review phase, reliable databases were examined, and in the qualitative phase, in order to collect information from Delphi techniques and focused group discussion with the presence of fifteen officials and social workers working in the country’s hospitals and experts and experts. The areas of health and treatment assistants of the Ministry of Health, university professors, medical staff and experts in the field of transplantation and organ donation were carried out. The protocol was sent to eight experienced experts for final review and evaluation, and they were asked to review the protocol in terms of the goal and scope of interventions, stakeholders, development steps, clarity of presentation, accessibility and non-dependence in writing according to the checklist to evaluate. Results: In this study, the work process of social workers was drawn in three stages before, during and after transplantation. Also, various roles were considered for social workers in three stages of work, including the role of defender, supporter, case manager, resource mobilizer, trainer, consultant, evaluator and guidance. Interventions such as finding informational support, facilitating the patient hospitalization process, providing psychosocial support to the family with the aim of empowering them for post-transplant care, providing counseling to family members to deal with stress and improving mental health of the patient, providing economic support, Accomodation conditions are provided through hospital companions and communication and interaction with the treatment team, including the doctor, in order to respond to the needs of the family, facilitate treatment and on time discharging. Conclusion: the protocol of specialized interventions of social workers in the transplantation process created a new step and a different look at psychosocial support in transplantation and coordination teams, so that social workers in the field of organ donation and transplantation and working with caregivers, families and the survivors of the patients arrived. Background: Approaching families of dying or newly deceased patients to donate organs requires specialized knowledge and a mastery of relational communication. As the transplantation field has progressed, Donation Professionals (DPs) are also leading conversations with family decision makers (FDMs) about the donation of uncommon anatomical gifts, such as face, hands, genitalia, referred to as Vascularized Composite Allotransplants (VCA) without much training or experience. To address the need for training, we adapted and beta tested an evidenced-based communication training program for donation discussions to VCA requests. The overarching goal of Communicating Effectively about Donation for Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (CEaD-VCA) is to increase the number of VCA authorizations and to improve the socioemotional outcomes of FDMs. Methods: We developed CEaD-VCA, an online, on-demand training program based on the previously tested, evidenced-based communication skills training program designed to train DPs to have conversations about solid organ donation. The training was modified utilizing data from a national telephone survey with DPs and results of 6 focus groups conducted with members of the general public. The survey and focus groups assessed knowledge, attitudes, and barriers to VCA donation. The training was shaped by a partnership with a leading industry partner, the Gift of Life Institute.™ Results: Using the results as a guide, the existing CEaD training program, consisting of interactive eLearning modules, was adapted to include technical information about VCA, foundational communication skills, and two interactive example VCA donation request scenarios to facilitate active learning. Forty-two DPs from two partner Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) participated in the beta test of CEaD-VCA. Pre- and post-test surveys assessed the impact of the training. Conclusions: The training was scored highly by DPs in effectiveness and ease of use. This project created a standardized, accessible, and comprehensive training for DPs to communicate about VCA donation. CEaD-VCA is an example of how to develop a communication skills training for difficult conversations utilizing input from stakeholders, guided by communication theory. It also demonstrates how gaps in communication skills during medical education can be filled utilizing advanced online Learning Management Systems. Human rights have transcended the realm of individual-state relations, becoming a constructive element of state legal systems and promoting the integration of social and legal relations, leading to the emergence of previously unknown human rights. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a legal understanding of them, considering contemporary realities. The purpose of the study is to describe and characterise the latest human rights within the framework of the general theory of law and the state. The methodological basis of the study is civilisation and socio-philosophical approaches, within which analysis, synthesis, and modelling methods were used. The essence of distinguishing generations of human rights boils down to the gradual realisation and resolution of issues of human legal status in a changing reality. Social relations, complicated by historical development, will give rise to new problems in human legal status. Attention is drawn to the close connection of human rights with the sphere of health protection, which arose as a result of scientific and technological achievements in biology and medicine, discussing rights to artificial insemination, euthanasia, organ transplantation, cloning, and gender change. The impact on fundamental human rights through the digitisation of law is analysed. The idea of the universality of human rights harmoniously interacts with the universality of digital technologies, so in the era of digitisation, the content of human rights and the related values do not change, and human rights themselves can become a unifying target perspective in determining attitudes towards new technologies. The main trends in the development of human rights in the conditions of globalisation are modelled, including the universalisation and unification of human rights, the complication of mechanisms for ensuring human rights at the international level, and the increasing importance of judicial law in protecting human rights at the supranational level. The paper focuses on the dependence of globalisation processes on transforming national legal systems in war conditions. The practical value of the study lies in its potential to incorporate the trends in human rights development within the context of globalisation into specific topics covered in courses on state and legal theory, philosophy of law, and the creation of relevant educational and methodological resources. Background Many national studies in Saudi Arabia have revealed a lack of knowledge about eye donation. The current study assessed awareness and attitudes towards eye donation among health faculty students in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It aims to increase their awareness as future healthcare providers are expected to raise general awareness to attain more local corneal donations. Methods A cross-sectional study including 1,060 health faculty students was conducted at King Abdulaziz University. Data were collected through an online questionnaire that covered participants’ demographics, academic year, knowledge, and attitudes regarding eye donation. Results Thirty-five percent of students had heard about eye donation, with the most common sources of information being social media (29%) and health workers (24%). Most respondents, 61% (n = 643), indicated willingness to donate their eyes after death. Of these respondents, 93% (n = 986), 6.8% (n = 72), and 0.2% (n = 2) had poor, fair, and good knowledge levels, respectively. A total of 66% (n = 696) and 34% (n = 364) had negative and positive attitudes, respectively. Conclusion Students in this study showed low levels of knowledge and negative attitudes about eye donation. Students should be adequately educated about the significance of eye donation.

This paper combines archaeology and written sources to examine the ways in which marble was used in the churches of the southern Levant in Late Antiquity. In particular, by analyzing the displays of these offerings within the church, and the types of texts engraved on them, it focuses on how, and to what extent, marble donations reflected social position, patronage, and identity. Most of the objects considered here bear inscriptions expressing devotion to saints, martyrs, and prophets, as well as a few quotations from Scripture, but overall, most reflect prayers and invocations by community members. The study therefore attempts to identify the genre of these texts and the objects they adorn to establish the relationship between donation and donor and to provide an analysis of the distribution of these objects within the church proper in the broader regional context of the Late Antique Levant.

The study presents the issues of real estate donation taxation in the legal and managerial context. The article indicates selected problems related to the effective transfer of real estate turnover in the form of a donation with regard to the necessity to pay the tax due on this activity. The authors will attempt to resolve the problem of how to interpret the issue of the necessity to tax real estate donation for effective resource management in the context of the jurisprudence of various courts and interpretations of tax authorities. Conclusions from the decisions discussed, based on the available statistics, will constitute a starting point for assessing and assessing the possibilities of people making decisions about donating real estate.

The study is devoted to issues of heterogeneity of bioethics, its connection with ethics, law and administration. It highlights and analyzes some laws both at the federal level and at the level of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, which directrly or indirectly address issues related to bioethics. Special attention is paid to analyzing the legal positions of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation including the issues of presumption of consent to organ and/or tissue transplantation, as well as the ethical side of surrogacy. Given the importance of issues related to bioethics, the work defines the problem of developing an optimal balance between application of legal norms and their effect, as well as the use of bioethics and its principles for the most correct and fair resolution of problems arising in society. Based on the analysis of foreign sources, an attempt is made to review legal regulation of medicine, health care and biotechnology, the most problematic from the point of view of bioethics. The study highlights problems connected with the lack of formally defined and systematic legal regulation of bioethics as well as the position regarding consolidation of provisions aimed at regulating ethical and moral components in regulatory legal acts. Moreover, the work touches upon issues related to the activities of independent organizations whose main activity is the formation of bioethical principles aimed at implementing norms to address emerging ethical issues in Russian legislation.

Introduction: Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) surveys prove beneficial to the transfusion services by providing an insight into the donors and, thus, aiding in mobilizing and retaining voluntary blood donors. We aim to study the knowledge, attitude and practices of donors towards blood donation in a pandemic setting. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of blood donors was conducted between June to and October 2020. Non-parametric tests (Mann – Whitney U and Kruskal – Wallis) were performed to evaluate the relation of knowledge, attitude and practices overall scores with age group, gender and history of blood donations (first vs. repeat). The Chi-Square test/Fisher's Exact test was used to evaluate the differences in the distribution of Knowledge, Attitude and Practices items within the groups. Results: A total of 403 of 2,748 individuals who came for whole blood donation participated in the study. The mean age of the study population was 31.1years (SD ± 8.4 range: 18 - 58), with 75% of the donors donating for the first time. The fear of acquiring COVID-19 infection was perceived as a major reason for the eligible population not to donate. The overall knowledge, attitude and practice score among the donors was satisfactory, being 76.14%, with a significant association with age. The overall positive attitude and practices scores of blood donors were 85.48% and 78.04%, respectively. Conclusion: The KAP scores were satisfactory among the donors. Timely communication of the precautionary measures at blood centers to contain the spread of the COVID-19 infection and effective counseling would help in motivating and retaining blood donors.

Blood, tissue and cell establishments (BTCs) stand out in the management of donor selection, procurement and processing of all types of substances of human origin (SoHO). In the last decades, the framework created around BTCs, including hospitals and national health system networks, and their links to research, development and innovation organizations and agencies have spurred their involvement in the study of groundbreaking advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP). To further improve strategic synergies in the development of ATMPs, it will be required to promote intra- and inter-European collaborations by creating an international network involving BTCs and major stakeholders (i.e., research organizations, hospitals, universities, patient associations, public agencies). This vision is already shared with the European Blood Alliance, the association of non-profit blood establishments, with 26 member states throughout the European Union and European Free Trade Association states. Herein we present and analyze the "BTC for ATMP Development And Manufacture" (BADAM) model, an ethically responsible business model based on the values and missions of BTCs and their commitment to health equity, patient access and education (based on voluntary donation of SoHO to address unmet clinical needs, while contributing to training professionals and scientific literacy of our Society). The management model of blood, tissue and cell establishments (BTCs) for emerging uses of substances of human origin (SoHO) is characterized by its central role in the value chain. Although NGOs are certified as successful actors in uplifting the value of human life, scholars state that there is a vital issue behind it, needs to be focused on, namely the transparency of organizational accountability. This study aspires to unravel the types of behavior that contribute to non-transparency involving organizational accountability. A qualitative approach by interviewing informants who are directly involved in NGO work, the study has been able to answer that the behavior tends to nontransparency in NGOs involves distrust in financial management, not reporting financial among NGOs staff and to outsiders and doubting the percentage of donations taken by the organization. Indirectly, the findings of these three characteristics exposure to NGOs to avoid them in order to maintain the credibility of accountability. We believe, the success of humanitarian asistance depends on good governance. The information shared by NGOs regarding the results of donations, accountability of expenses, projects and the impact obtained is intended to show their efficiency and effectiveness thus attracting the attention of donors to obtain donations. A number of authors criticise opt‐out (or 'deemed consent') systems for failing to secure valid consent to organ donation. Further, several suggest that mandated choice offers a more ethical alternative. This article responds to criticisms that opt‐out does not secure informed consent. If we assume current (low) levels of public awareness, then the explicit consent secured under mandated choice will not be informed either. Conversely, a mandated choice policy might be justifiable if accompanied by a significant public education campaign. However, if this entitles us to assume that members of the public are informed, then an opt‐out system would also be justified in the same circumstances. The alleged advantages of mandated choice seem to rest on an unfair comparison, between mandated choice with a public education campaign and an opt‐out system without one. While it may be that some countries with opt‐out systems should do more to inform their publics, I see no reason to assume that this cannot be done. Indeed, advocates of mandated choice seem committed to thinking it possible to raise awareness. However, there are still specific populations at risk of progression to severe diseases that require hospitalization or even at risk of death. The kidney transplant population is one of them. Consequently, when compatible symptoms appear, an early diagnosis should be sought in order to start specific antiviral treatment as soon as possible to avoid clinical deterioration of the patient. As in Bogor Waqf Forest, a waqf-based private forest management pattern was developed in Indonesia. Waqf currently functions not only for constructing mosques, cemeteries, and orphanages, but also for environmental preservation, known as green waqf. This study analyzed the mechanism of waqf forest development and waqf forest management practices in Bogor Regency. The method used Exploratory research was conducted using primary and secondary data. The informants were selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that Bogor Waqf Forest Foundation collected donations in the form of zakat, infaq, and waqf (ziswaf) for the development of the Bogor Waqf Forest. In addition, the Bogor Waqf Forest Foundation collaborates with BAZNAS and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to manage Bogor Waqf Forest productively by empowering local communities by forming groups such as the Berkah Bersama Group, Giat Bersama Group, Citra Berdikari Group, Asri Berseri, and Kelompok Tanggap Bencana (KATANA). Bogor Waqf Forest Management applies agroforestry forest management practices, such as agrosilvofishery, agrosilvopasture, apiculture, and agrisilviculture, which are non-timber product-oriented, namely NTFPs and environmental services. Rationale & Objective: Understanding national attitudes about living kidney donation will enable us to identify and address existing disincentives to living kidney donation. We performed a national survey to describe living kidney donation perceptions, perceived factors that affect the willingness to donate, and analyzed differences by demographic subgroups. Study Design: The survey items captured living kidney donation awareness, living kidney donation knowledge, willingness to donate, and barriers and facilitators to living kidney donation. Setting & Population: We surveyed 802 US adults (aged 25-65 years) in June 2021, randomly selected from an online platform with diverse representation. Analytical Approach: We developed summed, scaled indices to assess the association between the living kidney donation knowledge (9 items) and the willingness to donate (8 items) to self-reported demographic characteristics and other variables of interest using analysis of variance. All other associations for categorical questions were calculated using Pearson’s χ2 and Fisher exact tests. We inductively evaluated free-text responses to identify additional barriers and facilitators to living kidney donation. Results: Most (86.6%) of the respondents reported that they might or would definitely consider donating a kidney while they were still living. Barriers to living kidney donation included concerns about the risk of the surgery, paying for medical expenses, and potential health effects. Facilitators to living kidney donation included having information on the donation surgery’s safety, knowing that the donor would not have to pay for medical expenses related to the donation, and hearing living kidney donation success stories. Awareness of the ability to participate in kidney-paired donation was associated with a higher willingness to donate. Limitations: Potential for selection bias resulting from the use of survey panels and varied incentive amounts, and measurement error related to respondents’ attention level. Conclusions: Most people would consider becoming a living kidney donor. Increased rates of living kidney donation may be possible with investment in culturally competent educational interventions that address risks associated with donating, policies that reduce financial disincentives, and communication campaigns that raise awareness of kidney-paired donation and living kidney donation. Plain-Language Summary: Understanding what the general public thinks about living kidney donation will help to develop better education and increase the number of living kidney donors. We surveyed the public to find out: (1) how aware they are about the opportunity to donate a kidney while alive; (2) how much they know about living kidney donation; (3) whether they would be willing to donate; and (4) what would affect their willingness to donate. We found that teaching people about the risks of donating, decreasing costs related to donation, and raising awareness about it could increase the number of people willing to donate.

This research investigates the influence of project creator characteristics and text linguistic style on the effectiveness of fundraising campaigns within the realm of environmental crowdfunding. Drawing on a dataset encompassing 2641 campaigns conducted on the Tencent Gongyi platform spanning from April 2012 to December 2022, the study employs stratified regression analysis to discern the factors that contribute to variations in fundraising outcomes. In terms of hard information, the outcomes reveal that organization size, registration date, prior project initiation experience, and the organization's rating wield a noteworthy influence over the ultimate crowdfunding performance. Conversely, when considering soft information, the presence of negative emotional signals in crowdfunding texts was found to positively correlate with fundraising success. However, emotional intensity exhibited a negative impact on fundraising performance. These findings have substantial implications for practitioners engaged in environmental crowdfunding endeavors. When initiating a project, the creator should demonstrate his or her competence as much as possible to enhance credibility and in addition, should try to show negative signals in the text.

This study investigated the relationship between emotional states (valence, arousal, and six basic emotions) and donation size in pet charities, and it compared the effectiveness of affective computing and emotion self-report methods in assessing attractiveness. Using FaceReader software and self-report, we measured the emotional states of participants (N = 45) during the donation task. The results showed that sadness, happiness, and anger were significantly related to donation size. Sadness and anger increased donations, whereas happiness decreased them. Arousal was not significantly correlated with the willingness to donate. These results are supported by both methods, whereas the self-reported data regarding the association of surprise, fear, and disgust with donation size are inconclusive. Thus, unpleasant emotions increase donation size, and combining affective computing with self-reported data improves the prediction of the effectiveness of a charity appeal. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationship between emotions and charitable behavior toward pet charities and evaluates the effectiveness of marketing mix elements using affective computing. The limitations include the laboratory setting for this experiment and the lack of measurement of prolonged and repeated exposure to unpleasant charity appeals.

The studies provide robust evidence that when individuals experience the discomfort of cold, whether through physical touch or psychological priming, they are more inclined to seek remedies to rectify their feelings of loneliness and social isolation. This leads to a heightened desire for social connectedness, which, in turn, fosters increased levels of empathy and a greater likelihood of making charitable donations. In essence, the act of donation becomes a compensatory mechanism to counterbalance the perceived social deficit caused by feeling cold. Moreover, the research extends beyond the laboratory setting by conducting a field study in a coffee shop, demonstrating the generalizability of the findings. It reveals that the link between temperature, empathy, and charitable acts holds true in real-world scenarios. These findings offer valuable implications for social marketing and public service announcement campaigns, suggesting that the timing and context of these messages should be carefully considered. In conclusion, this research provides a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between temperature, social warmth, and charitable behavior. It highlights the significance of considering individuals' psychological states when designing campaigns or interventions aimed at promoting prosocial actions. Ultimately, it emphasizes the power of empathy and social connectedness in driving positive social change.

Abstract Background Over the last few decades biobanks have been recognised as institutions that may revolutionise biomedical research and the development of personalised medicine. Poland, however, still lacks clear regulations regarding the running of biobanks and the conducting of biomedical research. While the awareness of the general public regarding biobanks is low, healthcare professions and medical students also lack basic knowledge regarding biobanks, and such ignorance may affect their support for biobanks. Methods This study is aimed at assessing the knowledge and attitudes of future healthcare professionals towards the donation of human biological material for research purposes and is based on a sample of 865 Polish medical students at Poznań University of Medical Sciences. Results This research has shown that the awareness of medical students’ regarding biobanks is low. It has also shown that while the majority of future healthcare professionals enrolled in this study supported the idea of biobank research and declared themselves willing to donate, still many students felt ambivalent about the biobanking of human biological material for research purposes and expressed concerns over biobanking research. While the primarily motivation to participate in biobank research was the desire to help advance science and to develop innovative therapies, the most common reason for a refusal was the fear that the government, insurance companies or employers, might have access to the samples. Concerns over unethical use of samples and data safety were also prevalent. More than half of students opted for a study-specific model of consent and only a few opted for broad consent. Conclusions This research suggests that a lack of knowledge about biobanks, their role and activities may affect medical students’ support for biobanks and their active participation in the collection and management of biospecimens for research purposes. Since in the future medical, nursing and pharmacy students will be involved in the collection, storage, testing and analysis of biospecimens from their patients, medical students in all professional fields should be trained regarding the concept, purposes and operational procedures of biobanks, as well as the ethical, legal and social implications of biobank research.

Abstract Background Sufficient, safe and nutritious food is unattainable for many people experiencing severe food insecurity, putting them at dietary risk. Food banks, a growing part of the charitable food system (CFS), are the main source of food relief in developed countries. Donations of surplus, unsalable food from supermarkets, producers and manufacturers is the main source of the food supply, and this can be unpredictable, insufficient and inappropriate. The universal performance indicator of food-banking success is a weight-based measure, complemented by various initiatives to track the nutritional quality of food provided. There is currently no method that assesses the dietary risk of donated food related to nutrition and food safety. This protocol describes a method developed to identify and assess the dietary risk of donated food at an Australian food bank including the type, amount, nutrition quality, and food safety. Methods An audit of all food donated to a food bank servicing one Australian state was conducted over five consecutive days in May 2022. The audit process used a mobile device to take photographs of all incoming deliveries to the food bank. The images were manually annotated to document the type of food, product information (brand and product name, variety), the donor’s name, weight (kilograms), and date-marking details. Data was extracted from the photographs and assessed against pre-determined dietary risk criterion for food safety (date marking, damaged packaging, visible food spoilage) and nutrition quality according to the principles of the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, and the NOVA classification of level of processing. Discussion Fifteen hundred images were required to assess the dietary risk of 86,050 kg of donated food. There were 72 separate donations, largely from supermarkets and food manufacturers. Data analysis will enable identification of dietary risk, particularly for nutrition quality and food safety. This is important given the absence of food regulation for CFS donations, and the vulnerability of the client group. This protocol highlights the need for more transparency and accountability from food donors, about the food they donate.

Introduction: Restrictions on financial gains from the sale of human body parts is a leading policy issue surrounding the use of human tissues and cells. However, discrepancies exist between regulations and reality. In stem cell research, in which diverse sources of tissues and cells can be used, unclear regulations can impede research. Thus, using the Japanese system as a case study, we examined the challenges in the implementation of the “no payment” or the mu-shou principle in stem-cell research over the years. Methods: We reviewed 28 Japanese laws and governmental guidelines and summarized the scope of restrictions on payments for the donation and supply of human biological samples (HBS). Results: As part of restrictions on financial rewards, the mu-shou principle emerged in Japanese laws and administrative documents in the 1990s. Although the Japanese mu-shou generally means “free” or “gratis” in English, its interpretation in research and development settings remains ambiguous. Traditionally, this principle was used to deny remuneration to donors. However, it is also inconsistently applied while processing and transferring human tissue after donation, which creates confusion among the various stakeholders. Recent policies have interpreted the principle in multiple ways: (1) treating the use of HBS for cell-processing as a non-profit activity; (2) a flexible interpretation of the principle to broaden the scope of user payments; and (3) removal of the principle itself to allow for commercial use. Conclusions: The inconsistencies in the monetary payment requirements for HBS could hinder research and development. After scrutinizing the principle's background, an effective approach is needed that considers the concerns of the providers, users, and society alike.

IntroductionThere was shortage of essential diagnostic and therapeutic supplies in public hospitals during the second wave of COVID-19 in India.Materials and methodsThe Local Heroes Project, a hyperlocal project initiated by the World Youth Heart Federation (WYHF). Pilot project was conducted in six cities, and a nationwide project was scaled up to 58 city groups with 438 volunteers. Three-step model of needs assessment, fundraising, and establishment of the supply chain was undertaken. A national team was formed consisting of representatives from multiple international organizations and stakeholders. Local Volunteers were recruited and empowered in each city to conduct donation drives. The Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) model was used to assess the impact of the intervention.Results48.2% of the city groups completed needs assessment and 37.9% completed their donations. Factors such as team strength more than 4, local needs assessment, regular reporting during monthly meeting, receptive local administration, donation to more than 2 health centers and donation of supplies worth >= Rs 5,000 in each city (raw coverage 0.44, consistency 1) were more important contributors for success of the outcome. Supplies worth INR 2.45 million were donated.ConclusionHyperlocal projects can effectively address essential supply shortages. A three-step model of needs assessment, fundraising, and supply chain establishment can be an effective approach. Community involvement and donations are crucial for the success and sustainability of such projects.

This ethnographic paper deals with the phenomenon of transmission of family jewelry and its effects, as a production of ancestry. It is the result of a broader research in which I show that a family jewel is not a ordinary jewel; it is a jewel « in the family », as it is constituted in connection with affective groups. Its transfers tend to transit vertically, propagate narratives and signal guardianship: it must be preserved, cared for, exhibited, recounted, and passed on. Moreover, family jewelry is a sacred and inalienable asset, entrusted to the person who cannot dispose of it freely. Because of its economic value, it is subject to the selling taboo, a device implemented to keep it in the family line.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop and validate the Unrelated Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donation Questionnaire (UPBSC-DQ) (an instrument in Chinese) to assess the degree of cognition, attitude and intention of enrolled volunteers towards UPBSC donation. Methods: The development process of the UPBSC-DQ was performed in a stepwise approach that included extensive literature retrieval, expert revision, and pretesting with 442 students. We conducted an online cross-sectional survey using the final version of the UPBSC-DQ among 336 participants. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by Cronbach's α and corrected item-total correlation (CITC), and the validity was evaluated by a correlation coefficient matrix, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and t-test. Results: The UPBSC-DQ consists of four domains: basic information, cognitive, attitude, and intention. The Cronbach's α values were 0.88 and 0.86 for the attitude and intention scales, respectively, indicating strong internal consistency and good reliability. Correlation analysis and CFA showed good structure and content validity. Interitem correlations indicated that each item had only a weak correlation with the other scales. Conclusions: The UPBSC-DQ is a reliable and valid assessment questionnaire for individuals’ attitudes and intentions towards UPBSC donation. The questionnaire showed good to high reliability, content and construct validity.
