The research analyses objective preconditions for improving the protection of the rights of migrant workers in Ukraine. The research methodology included the dialectical combination of tools such as documentary observation and legal hermeneutics. Among the main results is that: sand analyzed the statistical materials and standards of current Ukrainian legislation governing the rights of migrant workers. Problems related to the implementation of the rights of migrant workers in Ukraine were determined. Objective prerequisites for improving the protection of the rights of migrant workers in Ukraine were identified. It was noted that the implementation of rights by migrant workers in the country depends on several conditions and, above all, it was the specificity of the legal regulation of this issue. It is concluded that Ukrainian law provides general guarantees to prevent discrimination against immigrants in terms of exercising their right to work. At the same time, the application of the rights of immigrants in our country depends on several objective and subjective conditions that should be discussed.

The introduction of the best modern approaches to public management in the economic sphere is of particular importance for Ukraine. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that the initiated structural reforms in Ukraine put forward new requirements for public management in the economic sphere. Thus, existing approaches to public management in the economic sphere require transformation. The lack of sufficient scientific justification for improving public management in the economic sphere in modern Ukrainian science indicates the importance of paying attention to this particular problem. The purpose of the study is to develop practical recommendations for improving public management in the economic sphere in Ukraine. In the paper, it is proposed to develop a concept of public management strategy in the economic sphere in Ukraine, which takes into account the tasks of increasing the economic independence of regions and territorial communities, supporting their economic development, increasing their economic activities, and ensuring competitiveness in the long term. Attention is also paid to identifying priority areas for improving the state regional policy in the economic sphere; creating conditions and eliminating internal and external threats to the economic development of the country, regions, and territorial communities; improvement of forecasting and policy documents on economic development.

We determined the species distribution and in-vitro susceptibility of 6082 bloodstream infection (BSI) isolates of Candida spp. collected from 250 medical centres in 32 nations over a 10-year period from 1992 through 2001. The species included 3401 C. albicans, 984 C. glabrata, 796 C. parapsilosis, 585 C. tropicalis, 153 C. krusei, 67 C. lusitaniae, 48 C. guilliermondii, 10 C. famata, 10 C. kefyr, six C. pelliculosa, five C. rugosa, four C. lipolytica, three C. dubliniensis, three C. inconspicua, two C. sake and one isolate each of C. lambica, C. norvegensis and C. zeylanoides. Minimum inhibitory concentration determinations were made using the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards reference broth microdilution method. Variation in the rank order and frequency of the different species of Candida was observed over time and by geographic area. The proportion of BSI due to C. albicans and C. glabrata increased and C. parapsilosis decreased over time in Canada, the USA and Europe. C. glabrata was an infrequent cause of BSI in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Very little variation in fluconazole susceptibility was observed among isolates of C. albicans, C. tropicalis and C. parapsilosis. These species accounted for 78% of all BSI and remained highly susceptible (91–100% susceptible) to fluconazole from 1992 to 2001 irrespective of geographic origin. The prevalence of fluconazole resistance among C. glabrata isolates was variable both over time and among the various countries and regions. Resistance to fluconazole among C. glabrata isolates was greatest in the USA and varied by US census region (range 0–23%). These observations are generally encouraging relative to the sustained usefulness of fluconazole as a systemically active antifungal agent for the treatment of candida BSI.

Herbarium material of aquatic macrophytes and old limnological samples provide the opportunity to obtain precisely dated samples of epiphytic, planktonic or sedimentary diatom assemblages from the more recent past. These allow an accurate assessment of former limnological conditions at specific sites, in particular types of surface waters or associated to certain macrophytes, and even in entire regions. Inferences made from diatom assemblage composition may range from species abundance and diversity estimates to a reliable reconstruction of important parameters (e.g. pH, nutrient concentrations, salinity) by the use of indicator values or calibration techniques. Such information can be used to determine appropriate goals for management and restoration (pre-deterioration conditions), to track temporal changes by comparison with more recent data and relate these to possible external influences (e.g. various forms of pollution), or to evaluate monitoring data in a broader time perspective. In many cases, the use of old samples may not allow to generate time series of similar length and resolution as the more commonly applied diatom analysis of sediment cores. This technique, however, does provide access to the history of waters that do not have a suitable sediment record (e.g. because of dredging or sediment disturbance), avoids the problems often encountered in dating core levels accurately, and - with comparable or less effort -can be applied to a score of waters from a certain area. Also, it may be used to corroborate conclusions derived from sediment core analyses. Furthermore, the shorter time averaging of environmental conditions by epiphyton or plankton compared to sediment assemblages can be used advantageously to study short-lived or abruptly occurring phenomena. Limitations are, of course, related to the availability of suitable samples, the fact that most samples post-date c. 1850, and the reliability or detail of the information on place and date of collection. Moreover, variability caused by substrate and small-scale spatial differences in ecological conditions may be difficult to account for. For these reasons, it is recommendable to examine multiple samples of different nature (epiphyton of different plant species, sediment from between the roots, ...) from a given site. So far, old samples and herbarium material of aquatic plants have been used for a number of diatom investigations on lentic waters in Flanders. These include a number of case studies on specific water bodies, e.g. the Blankaart reservoir (Woumen), pools in the "Fonteintjes" (Zeebrugge), a survey of pools in the region of Kalmthout prior to 1945, and a 'typological' study of standing waters throughout the entire Flemish region. In order to facilitate the selection of suitable material for such studies, an inventory was made of some of the most important herbarium and sample collections held by Belgian universities and research institutes (including the herbaria BR, GENT, LV, BRVU, ANTW and that of UCL, and the collections of Van Oye at RUG and RUCA, and of Adam & Goossens at KBIN).

Measurements of 4 4 Ca/ 4 2 Ca and 1 4 3 Nd/ 1 4 4 Nd isotope ratios in carbonate fluorapatite (CFA) through the Aptian-Eocene section of the Negev (Israel), together with quantified rates of P and Ca accumulation and bulk sedimentation, permit an examination of the relationships of these five factors to Tethyan phosphogenesis. The data provide an Aptian-Eocene (ca. 70 Ma) record of the Ca isotope composition of 35 CFA samples (24 of which were also analyzed for Nd isotopes), representing 11 time-stratigraphic phosphate horizons within the sequence. The δ 4 4 Ca values are significantly lower in the Aptian-Albian samples (δ 4 4 Ca = -0.11‰ to -0.06‰) than in the Campanian-Eocene samples (δ 4 4 Ca = +0.22‰ to +0.42‰), whereas the e N d (Τ) values increase from continental crust like in the Aptian-Albian [e N d ( T ) = -10.9] to more radiogenic, Pacific-like [e N d ( T ) = -6.6 to -6.1] in the Campanian. Both peaks of δ 4 4 Ca and e N d ( T ) in the Campanian coincide with the peak of Tethyan phosphogenesis in the Negev, which is marked by a sharp increase of P accumulation rates (from

Elaborate deep borings for hydrogeological purposes in the western part of the Belgian coastal plain revealed the presence of deep marine sediments with different facies. A combined diatom-, mollusc- and pollen investigation procurred many new and interesting data about the diatom flora and the mollusc fauna as well as about the environment and the age of the sediments. The absence of direct reference investigations preventing uniform conclusions at this stage of the investigations. A radio-carbondating and the pollen analysis showed the presence of boreal sediments at the same depth of probably older (Eemian) deposits.

In the frame of a general introduction to diatom analysis, especially of Quaternary coastal deposits, the possibilities, problems and methods of this discipline are briefly discussed.
