COVID-19 , *PREOPERATIVE period , *CORONARY artery bypass , *CARDIOPULMONARY bypass , *CARDIAC surgery , *AUTOIMMUNE diseases - Abstract
Cold agglutinin disease(CAD) is an autoimmune disease that occurs against erythrocyte antigens. It is usually idiopathic, but some infections can also be a trigger. CAD becomes active in the peripheral circulation at lower temperatures more easily when exposed to cold, causing hemolysis or agglutination. In this article, the management of a coronary bypass case with CA formation in intraoperative period is presented. A 46-year-old diabetic and hypertensive male patient had COVID-19 2 months ago. Cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB) was initiated with adequate heparinization, and the patient was cooled to 32°C. It was noticed that there were clots in the cardioplegia delivery line(+1°C). Agglutinations were observed in the autologous blood of the patient whose ACT values were normal. After CPB, the operation was completed without any problems and the patient was discharged on the 5th day with recovery. A diagnosis of CAD was made with the results of peripheral smear and immunologic tests. Determination of antibody concentration and thermal amplitude in the preoperative period in patients with CAD is very important. While preparing such patients for surgery, heating of room, patient, fluids, planning of normothermic CPB, and using warm cardioplegia are required. The relationship between CAD and COVID has started to take place in the literature. The patient we presented had a COVID 2 months ago, cold agglutinin may have been induced by COVID or may have arisen idiopathic. Considering that many people may have had a COVID nowadays, care should be taken especially in the perioperative period of cardiac surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Commercial herbal products, called dietary supplements, are sold in tablet or capsule form under the name of different brands on the market. These are not medical medicines, they are used extensively in order to support healthy life and to compensate for some nutritional elements not taken enough by diet. This reminds the importance of the question of whether such products are reliable or not. For this reason, the aim of the study is to suggest standard analytical methods that can be used in the row plants used for the preparation of such herbal products, as well as in forms transformed into nutritional supplements. For this purpose, we examined tablet and capsule forms of ground-grape seeds, rosemary, bitter melon and ginkgo biloba on the market which contain polyphenol-type components known with their antioxidant properties. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) values and important bioactive components of these compounds were determined. Spectrophotometric methods were applied to extracts prepared after the appropriate extraction solvent was identified for each product. Total polyphenol contents of these products were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method; total flavonoid contents were determined by AlCl3/NaNO2 method; total antioxidant capacities were determined by CUPRAC (copper (II) ion reducing antioxidant capacity) and ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis-6-sulfonic acid)/TEAC (trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity). To detect the components that support the antioxidant capacity and determine the amounts, HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) method was used and analysis methods were developed individually for each product. Gallic acid (GA) equivalent total phenolic contents (TPC) (mmol GA/g) of nutritional supplement products examined were measured; 1.71 ± 0.47 for grape seed, 0,55 ± 0,13 for rosemary, 0,24 ± 0,03 for bitter melon and 0,40 ± 0,16 for ginkgo biloba. Total flavonoid contents (TFC) determined as catechin (CAT) equivalent (mmol CAT/g); 0,13 ± 0,01 for rosemary, 0,01 ± 0,001 for bitter melon and 0,03 ± 0,005 for ginkgo biloba. This method could not be applied to grape seed's extract due to sediment formation. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) values of the same products as trolox (TR) equivalent (mmol TR/g) determined by CUPRAC and ABTS methods respectively; 0,90 ± 0,07 and 0,72 ± 0,17 for grape seed, 0,79 ± 0,05 and 0,41 ± 0,09 for rosemary, 0,08 ± 0,006 and 0,11 ± 0,05 for bitter melon, 0,12 ± 0.01 and 0,14 ± 0.02 for ginkgo biloba. Phenolic compounds which contribute to total antioxidant capacity and are determined by HPLC analysis; catechin, epicatechin, gallic acid, flavon, procyanidin B2, resveratrol and cyanide in grape seed; cafeic acid, rutin, carnosol and carnosic acid in rosemary; caffeic acid, rutin, quercetin and chlorogenic acid in bitter melon; apigenin, luteolin, kaempferol, rutin and quercetin in ginkgo biloba. The ratio of the capacity values calculated by HPLC-CUPRAC method to the total capacity values obtained by the CUPRAC method are; acidic and acid-free grape seed extracts 46-57%, acidic and acid-free grape seed extract hydrolyzates 43-56%, rosemary extract and hydrolyzate 39- 22%, bitter melon extract and hydrolyzate 38-43%, and ginkgo biloba extract and hydrolyzate 33-40%.

Fabric sound is comprised asfabric handle property such as fabric softness, stiffness and drape. As theprevious studies were reviewed, it could be seen that, in general differentsound generation systems were used in which the fabric was pulled in a constantvelocity. In these measurement systems, a fabric sample was rubbed against theface of another fabric sample and the friction occurred face to face. However,in some actions, friction is not always face to face. There are severaldifferent movements (such as jogging) and friction types in which the physicalproperties such as friction, roughness, shear, and bending stiffness actimportant role on fabric sound. In order to imitate all these situations,“waving movement sound” was designed. In addition to this, “frictional movementsound” was also defined and used to compare waving movement sound with thecommon (caused by face to face friction) frictional sound. The aim of this study is toinvestigate the sound generation properties of the fabrics under the influenceof different frictions and movements. For this purpose, three differentcommonly used woven fabrics and three military windcheater fabrics were usedand “Level Pressure of Total Sound (LPT)” values of these were measured during“frictional movement” and “waving movement”. According to the results, sincefrictional movement created higher friction force, LPT values of the frictionalmovement was found higher than the LPT values of waving movement. Increasing environmental awareness and the high demand for alternatives to non-renewable petroleum resources have led toextensive research focused on the concept of biomass-based bio-renewable materials. As well as constantly increasing environmentalpollution, toxicological effects of industrial waste and the reflection of decreasing natural resources, environmental friendly productionmethods and the usage of biopolymers obtained from sustainable resources became an important issue in textile industry. Chitosan hasseveral application areas in textile industry because of its biodegradability, biocompatibility and non-toxicological effects on livingorganisms. With the introduction of nanotechnology into our lives, chitosan nano particles were obtained in order to take the advantagesof macro-sized chitosan more effectively. Therefore, better results could be obtained by using less amount of chitosan. Although thereare several methods to reduce the size of chitosan, ionic gelation is the most commonly used method since it is easy to apply and it doesnot require the use of toxic chemicals In this study, the different forms of chitosan were applied onto the cotton fabrics by environmentalfriendly methods such as plasma and sol gel technology as an alternative to conventional finishing methods. The treated fabrics werecompared in terms of their antibacterial activity, SEM, XPS and surface friction properties., Artan çevre bilinci ve yenilenemeyen petrol kaynaklarına alternatiflerine olan yüksek talep, biyokütle esaslı biyolojik olarakyenilenebilir maddeler kavramına odaklanan kapsamlı araştırmalara yol açmaktadır.

Pulmonary artery (PA) aneurysm is a very rare disease. Surgical treatment is important in symptomatic patients. Due to its anatomical condition, the rupture of such aneurysms may lead to sudden right ventricular failure or sudden death. The aim of this report is to present the use of balanced general anaesthesia management in a patient who underwent PA aneurysm repair surgery. Surgical repair was planned in a 55-year-old man with chest and back pain as well as haemoptysis. With the help of balanced anaesthesia, stress on the aneurysm wall was prevented by avoiding sudden blood pressure increases. With appropriate ventilation methods, we attempted to avoid an increase in pulmonary vascular resistance, and therefore, the pressure on the aneurysm, as well as an increase in the postoperative right ventricle. With the help of appropriate anaesthesia and ventilation techniques, uncomplicated and successful anaesthetic management was effected in the repair of a PA aneurysm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Textiles are known to be one of the three basic needs of human beings as from the past to the present day. Consumption of textile products has increased along with the rapid development of fashion and population growth. Recycling with compelling reasons, such as the protection of resources in textile products and processes, the need to reduce waste areas, the cost of waste and the need for cheap raw materials for production, is increasingly prevalent throughout the world. With recycling, significant contributions to the world will be achieved in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. Many countries have stepped up their work on industrial basis by taking precautions in this regard. Textile in our country has a very important place because it is one of the leading industrial sectors and more than 95% of textile materials can be recycled and evaluated. In this study, a general evaluation of recycling in textiles was made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wool fabrics are subjected to different surface modification methods in order to improve their hydrophilicity, dyeability, antimicrobial, shrinkproofing properties. Especially environmental friendly methods and application of biopolymers are gainingimportance instead of conventional processes and textile chemicals. In this study, nanochitosan particles were synthesized, applied onwool fabrics and compared with bulk chitosan in terms of various properties. Ag-loaded chitosan nanoparticles was also synthesized andexamined in terms of its antibacterial activity by different application methods. It has more than 95 % antibacterial effect against grampositive and negative bacteria. The influences on hydrophilicity, antibacterial activity, dyeing, air permeability, surface morphology andtensile strength were studied. Enzyme and atmospheric plasma treatments were used both alone and combined treatments beforeapplication of chitosan/nanochitosan to increase their effects. It was noticed that enzyme and plasma treatments showed significantcontributions on chitosan and nanochitosan in all investigated properties. From surface observations, it was seen that especiallycombined treatments caused a smoother surface on wool fabrics. Therefore improved hydrophilicity and dyeability properties could beobtained by ecological methods. As a result of dyeing process, the synergetic effect of enzyme, plasma and nanochitosan treatments ledto 2.5 times higher K/S values than that of untreated fabric. Moreover, all treatments had no detrimental effects on bulk properties offabrics., Yünlü kumaşlar hidrofilite, boyanabilirlik, antimikrobiyallik ve çekmezlik özelliklerinin geliştirilmesi için farklı yüzeymodifikasyonu yöntemlerine tabi tutulmaktadır.

The applicability of madder by using printing technique over various natural fibers was investigated in the study. The effect of different factors, i.e. dye and urea concentration, type of fixation, fixation temperature and time, effect of mordant type and mordanting methods were studied. Printed fabrics were evaluated by means of color values and fastness properties. The K/S increases rapidly as the concentration of the natural dye powder in the printing paste increases from 15 to 45 g/kg printing paste. The effect of mordant on color was also studied. The results show that the highest K/S value was obtained by using mordant. Application of madder with the printing technique is expected to bring a different and an ecological alternative to new designs

In summer, especially in the Mediterranean Region, basic T-shirts produced of cotton fibers in daily wear are frequently used. Consumers wash these products by detergents to perform cleaning, maintenance and soften them by softeners to fulfill the expectations of softening, freshness and nice odor. In this study, the odor durabilities of softeners over t-shirts with the blends of 5 % elasthane and 95 % cotton,a popular blend for spring- summer wear, was searched. Softeners were chosen as one of them included microcapsules and the other one did not. After various keeping durations treated with home type of washing by an odorless detergent and the softener, 18 panelists wore them during a work day and evaluated the scents by a determined scale. As a result, during a busy work day, softener that contained microcapsules had more durable scents and was found superior by the panelists

Giriş: Biz kırmızı küre dağılım hacmi (RDW)'nin koroner arter hastalarında cerrahi revaskülarizasyon sonrası sonuçlarda belirleyici olduğunu düşündük. Gereç ve Yöntem: Ciddi koroner arter hastalığı olan koroner baypas cerrahisi geçirmiş 94 hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi. Toplam 94 hasta RDW değerlerine göre üç gruba ayrıldı (mean RDW: tertile 1, 12.68 ± 0.60; tertile 2: 13.64 ± 0.49; tertile 3, 16.47 ± 2.04). Bulgular: Ortalama 51 aylık takipte toplam 18 (%19.1) ölüm gözlendi. Yüksek RDW'li hastalar orta (%10) ve düşük (%13) RDW'li hastalara kıyasla yüksek mortalite gösterdi. Değişkenli regresyon analizinde RDW > 14.6 beş yıllık sonuçlar için önemli bağımsız risk faktörüdür. Sonuç: Sonuç olarak, koroner baypas cerrahisi geçirmiş hastaların preoperatif yüksek RDW değeri artmış uzun dönem mortalite riski ile ilişkilidir., Introduction: We hypothesized that the red cell distribution width (RDW) would predict the outcome of surgical revascularization of patients with coronary artery disease. Materials and Methods: Ninety four patients with severe coronary artery disease who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting were included in this study. A total of 94 patients were divided into tertiles based on their preprocedural RDW (mean RDW: tertile 1, 12.68 ± 0.60; tertile 2: 13.64 ± 0.49; tertile 3, 16.47 ± 2.04). Results: There were a total of 18 (19.1%) deaths over a mean follow-up of 51 months. Patients with a high RDW showed the highest mortality (34%) as compared to patients with medium (10%) and low RDW (13%). In multivariable regression modeling, RDW > 14.6 was a significant independent predictor of five year outcome in mortality. Conclusion: In conclusion, elevated preprocedural RDW in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting is associated with increased risk of long-term mortality.

Hava ve argon plazma işlemli kumaşlar özellikle uzun süreli işlem koşullarında daha yüksek ışık haslığı değerleri vermiştir, This study is about environmentally safe pre-treatment for wool fabrics to improve their printability with acid dyes. Knitted wool fabrics treated with argon and air atmospheric plasma were evaluated in terms of printability. Printing was carried out with two different receipts under different steaming conditions. The surfaces of untreated and plasma treated wool fabrics were analyzed by SEM to compare the morphological changes. Hairiness of the fabric was investigated under light microscope. The results showed that atmospheric plasma treatment improved the hydrophility of the fiber and enhanced the adhesion and penetration of printing paste to the surface with decreasing hairiness. Increased penetration of printing paste and reduced hairiness caused higher color yield even at lower steaming durations without wetting agent. Air and argon plasma treated fabrics, especially at higher exposure durations, showed higher light fastnesses. Adversely, same samples showed a decrease in wet and dry rubbing fastnesses which were probably caused from the deeper shade of the fabric

Deneme sonuçlarından, DMDHEU ve kitosan kombinasyonunun çoklu yıkamalara karşı, tek başına kitosan kullanımına kıyasla çok daha iyi sonuçlar verdiği görülmüştür, Huge amount of crab and shrimp shells have been abandoned as wastes worldwide. These wastes are reprocessed as a result of increased environmental laws and new products have been produced from these shells. Chitin has become the most preferred form of them and it is also the most abundant biopolymer after cellulose in nature. Chitosan, the main derivative of chitin, is obtained by deacetylation of chitin. Application areas of chitin and chitosan have been increasing together with the researches made on them. Like most of other industries, Chitosan has the most common application possibilities in textile industry such as antimicrobial agent, spinning, cotton, wool dyeing and shrink proofing of wool fibers. In present study, the effect of chitosan and crosslinking agent at different concentrations on antibacterial efficiency and washing durability were investigated. The combination of DMDHEU and chitosan was found to give better results against multiple washings than that of chitosan alone

As a result of light exposure to the dyed textile materials, there have been important changes (fading). Especially in summer days this fading effect resulted from degradation of the dye has clearly been observed because of sun light and perspiration. This problem makes several textile producers desperate against the consumer. The fact that the producers should be become conscious in this matter and should make studies aiming at solution of this problem have been of great importance. In this article post treatment with singlet oxygen quencher and ultraviolet absorbers suitable for cellulosic materials had been made to the fabrics dyed with reactive dyestuffs which are the most used dyestuffs. The effects of UV absorbers and singlet oxygen quencher on light, light - perspiration (acidic and basic) and light-water fastnesses were investigated

Surface modification provides some physical and/ or chemical changes on the surface of the materials without effecting their bulk properties. With these modification methods which are classified as chemical, physicochemical and biochemical some properties can be enchanged or given single or multi-functions to the textile materials for various applications. Chemical modification of textiles is carried out with application and reaction of any kind of chemical agent to the material. If the textile material is exposured to the chemicals long time, color, mechanic and chemical properties of the material can be changed. Because of disadvantages of chemical modifications, researhers tend to improve and accessibility of physicochemical modifications. Corona discharge, heat treatments, plasmas, UV and - radiations electron or ion bombardement, ozon can be given as an example for physicochemical. Another alternative method is biochemical modification with enzymes. Enzymes are used in desizing (amylase) for the first time in textile industry and now they can be used in many applications from pretreatment to finishing of both synthetic and natural fibres

For an anesthesiologist, it is important to manage the hemodynamics of patients who develop atrial fibrillation (AF) during the perioperative period. In a patient undergoing Whipple surgery, atrial fibrillation, which is thought to occur with an astonishing intraoperative cause has not been reported in the literature. There are multiple risk factors for the development of new onset AF such as older age, diabetes, hypertension, hypovolemia, electrolyte imbalances, hypoxia, and underlying heart disease, etc. But also, during surgery, direct irritation of diaphragmatic surface of the heart with retractor may trigger AF.
