1. Thermodynamics inconsistencies in cosmological unimodular gravity models

Abstract

In this work we study the thermodynamics of a cosmological unimodular gravity model at late times by considering two different energy diffusion functions that emerges in these scenarios, and that encodes the current for the non-conservation of the energy-momentum tensor, usually termed as $Q(t)$. Specifically, we discuss the barotropic and the continuous spontaneous localization models as energy diffusion functions. The consistency conditions demanded for the entropy of the system in terms of the cosmological parameters of the model: positive production ($dS/dt>0$) and convexity condition ($d^{2}S/dt^{2} <0$), are investigated. We show that these conditions strongly constraint the viavility of these models. Additionally, we comment about our results and compare with those obtained in recent works where the restriction of the parameters for these two diffusion models was implemented with the use of cosmological data., Comment: 8 pages, no figures

Abstract

We investigate a generalized Chaplygin-like gas with an anisotropic equation of state, characterizing a dark fluid within which a static spherically symmetric black hole is assumed. By solving the Einstein equations for this black hole spacetime, we explicitly derive the metric function. The spacetime is parametrized by two critical parameters, $\mathcal{B}$ and $\alpha$, which measure the deviation from the Schwarzschild black hole and the extent of the dark fluid's anisotropy, respectively. We explore the behavior of light rays in the vicinity of the black hole by calculating its shadow and comparing our results with the Event Horizon Telescope observations. This comparison constrains the parameters to $0 \leq \mathcal{B} < 0.03$ and $0 < \alpha < 0.1$. Additionally, we calculate the deflection angles to determine the extent to which light is bent by the black hole. These calculations are further utilized to formulate possible Einstein rings, estimating the angular radius of the rings to be approximately $37.6\,\mathrm{\mu as}$. 3. Exploring the cosmological degeneracy between decaying dark matter model and viscous $\Lambda$CDM

Abstract

In the context of an homogeneous and isotropic universe, we consider the degeneracy condition at background level between two scenarios in which processes out of equilibrium are possible to explore their cosmological implications; this consideration allows us to deviate from the perfect fluid description and in this case bulk viscosity represents a viable candidate to describe entirely such effects. The cosmological model describing an unstable dark matter sector is mapped into a slight modification of the $\Lambda$CDM model characterized by a viscous dark matter sector; under this consideration our description does not depend on a specific formulation of viscous effects and these can be fully reconstructed and characterized by the parameter that determines the decay ratio of dark matter. However, in this new scenario the cosmic expansion is influenced by the viscous pressure and the dark energy sector given by the cosmological constant is translated into a dynamical one. As consequence of our formulation, the test against observations of the model indicates consistency with quintessence dark energy but the crossing of the phantom divide can be accessible., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures

4. Emulating dark energy models with known equation of state via the created cold dark matter scenario

Abstract

In this work we establish only at background dynamics level, the equivalence between the Created Cold Dark Matter (CCDM) model and diverse dark energy (DE) models. We find that for a barotropic or linear equation of state (EoS) for the DE, $p=w \rho$, and standard matter sector the corresponding CCDM model is described by the same functional structure of the ratio of particle production, $\Gamma$. For a different EoS the functional form of the $\Gamma$ term is not longer maintained, however, in the case of a polytropic EoS given by the Chaplygin gas the resulting $\Gamma$ term can be written as the one obtained in the barotropic case under certain considerations., Comment: 7 pages, no figures. Abstract

In the framework of Einstein's gravity, we study the thermodynamic equation state, $P=P(V,T)$, associated with a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe. In this scenario, we consider the components of the dark sector as non-interacting fluids that dominate the universe's energy content at late times. Under these circumstances, the functional structure of the cosmological coincidence parameter plays a relevant role in admitting first-order $P-V$ phase transitions; specifically, the dark energy density and the coincidence parameter must be given in terms of the radius of the apparent horizon., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures. 6. Design and testing of an affordable desktop wind tunnel

Abstract

Wind tunnels are a key source of data collection, but their cost and size can be a significant obstacle to their acquisition and usage, especially for applications such as instrument calibration, instruction, or in-class demonstrations. Here we propose a design for a cost-effective, desktop wind tunnel. This design takes advantage of readily available, inexpensive materials. Special consideration was taken to allow the wind tunnel to be serviceable, as well as giving the operator the ability to change key features without a complete redesign. There are three main sections, the first being a fan enclosure, which holds seven ducted fans in a hexagonal array. The second section holds honeycomb flow straighteners, and provides an enclosed volume suitable for larger, lower-speed experiments. The third section is a contraction, terminating in a 2in x 2in, higher-speed square section. The wind tunnel has a footprint of approximately 13.5in x 5.5in, making it small enough to be portable and to fit on a desk. An off-the-shelf masked stereolithography apparatus (MSLA) 3D printer was used to prepare the parts. This allows the wind tunnel to be built for under \$500; even including the cost of a 3D printer, the overall cost remains under \$1,000. This design is able to produce flow at up to 44.1 m/s, enabling a variety of aerodynamic demonstrations.

Abstract

In this work, a generalized force-field methodology for the relaxation of large moir\'e heterostructures is proposed. The force-field parameters are optimized to accurately reproduce the structural degrees of freedom of some computationally manageable cells relaxed using density functional theory. The parameters can then be used to handle large moir\'e systems. We specialize to the case of 2H-phased twisted transition-metal dichalcogenide homo- and heterobilayers using a combination of the Stillinger-Weber intralayer- and the Kolmogorov-Crespi interlayer-potential. Force-field parameters are developed for all combinations of MX$_2$ for $\text{M}\in\{\text{Mo},\text{W}\}$ and $\text{X}\in\{\text{S},\text{Se},\text{Te}\}$. The results show agreement within 20 meV in terms of band structure between density functional theory and force-field relaxation. Using the relaxed structures, a simplified and systematic scheme for the extraction of the interlayer moir\'e potential is presented for both R- and H-stacked systems. We show that in-plane and out-of-plane relaxation effects on the moir\'e potential, which is made both deeper and wider after relaxation, are essential. An interpolation based methodology for the calculation of the interlayer binding energy is also proposed. Finally, we show that atomic reconstruction, which is captured by the force-field method, becomes especially prominent for angles below 4-5$^\circ$, when there is no mismatch in lattice constant between layers., Comment: 11 pages, 12 figures. Abstract

We review a dynamical dark energy model scarcely studied in the literature and we introduce two possible generalizations. We discuss separately the behavior of the original model and a minimal extension of it by exploring some early and late times limits, we find that the cosmic components are related by their parameters state. In order to have access to the phantom regime we present two dark energy densities inspired from the holographic approach and from the emergent entropic forces model in the early universe. For the first case we obtain a Type III singularity and in the second proposal we have a transition from decelerated to accelerated cosmic expansion that starts as phantom type. Abstract

The consideration of the holographic dark energy approach and matter creation effects in a single cosmological model is carried out in this work accordingly, we discuss some cases of interest. We test this cosmological proposal against recent observations. Considering the best fit values obtained for the free cosmological parameters, the model exhibits a transition from a decelerated cosmic expansion to an accelerated one. The deceleration-acceleration transition can not be determined consistently from the coincidence parameter for this kind of model. 20. Qualitative analysis for viscous cosmologies in a non linear regime of the Israel-Stewart formalism

Abstract

We explore the dynamical properties of a cosmological model that includes viscous effects in the dark matter sector of the fluid equations in a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime. The bulk viscous effects are described by a non linear extension of the full Israel-Stewart model. We allow the interchange of energy in the dark sector by means of the interaction term, namely $Q$. We establish the dynamical system corresponding to Friedmann and fluid set of equations associated to the model and study the linear stability of its critical points. From the dynamical system, we show the appearance of a critical point characterizing a de Sitter universe within the non interacting and interacting dark sector. We focus our study to analyse the stability of this fixed point in a large region of parameter space and derive linearized solutions around it. These approximate and analytical solutions are potentially able to describe the expansion of the universe since they are close to a de Sitter stationary solution. Within this regime with $Q \neq 0$, we realize the existence of regions in the space of parameters where this critical point is stable and describes the behavior of dark energy as quintessence, cosmological constant and phantom like fluids. We perform a comparison between numerical and linearized solutions nearby the critical points within the full non linear regimes and also contrast them against $\Lambda$CDM model. We find that fully non linear regime is favored by observations and closer to the concordance model due to the non-zero value of the parameter $j$, which controls the non linear effects. In fact, at low redshift values, the expansion rate associated to the full non linear regime is practically indistinguishable from $\Lambda$CDM. Abstract

Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) strains have been linked to several outbreaks of severe diarrhea around the world, and this bacterium is now commonly resistant to antibiotics. As part of the pathophysiology of EAEC, the characteristic pattern of adherence looks like stacked bricks on the intestinal epithelium. This phenotype depends on an aggregative adhesion plasmid (pAA), which codes for a regulatory protein named AggR. The AggR protein is a master regulator that transcriptionally actives the main virulence genes in this E. coli pathotype, such as those that encode the aggregative adhesion fimbriae, dispersin and its secretion apparatus, Aar regulatory protein, and type VI secretion system. Several reports have shown that AggR positively affects most EAEC virulence genes, functioning as a classic transcriptional activator in the promoter region of these genes, interacting with the RNA polymerase. This minireview article integrates the information about virulence determinants of EAEC controlled by the AggR regulator.

25. Performance Comparison of Bio-Inspired Algorithms for Optimizing an ANN-Based MPPT Forecast for PV Systems

Abstract

This study compares bio-inspired optimization algorithms for enhancing an ANN-based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) forecast system under partial shading conditions in photovoltaic systems. Four algorithms—grey wolf optimizer (GWO), particle swarm optimization (PSO), squirrel search algorithm (SSA), and cuckoo search (CS)—were evaluated, with the dataset augmented by perturbations to simulate shading. The standard ANN performed poorly, with 64 neurons in Layer 1 and 32 in Layer 2 (MSE of 159.9437, MAE of 8.0781). Among the optimized approaches, GWO, with 66 neurons in Layer 1 and 100 in Layer 2, achieved the best prediction accuracy (MSE of 11.9487, MAE of 2.4552) and was computationally efficient (execution time of 1198.99 s). PSO, using 98 neurons in Layer 1 and 100 in Layer 2, minimized MAE (2.1679) but had a slightly longer execution time (1417.80 s). SSA, with the same neuron count as GWO, also performed well (MSE 12.1500, MAE 2.7003) and was the fastest (987.45 s). CS, with 84 neurons in Layer 1 and 74 in Layer 2, was less reliable (MSE 33.7767, MAE 3.8547) and slower (1904.01 s). GWO proved to be the best overall, balancing accuracy and speed. Future real-world applications of this methodology include improving energy efficiency in solar farms under variable weather conditions and optimizing the performance of residential solar panels to reduce energy costs. Further optimization developments could address more complex and larger-scale datasets in real-time, such as integrating renewable energy sources into smart grid systems for better energy distribution.

26. Testing a nonlinear solution of the Israel-Stewart theory

Abstract

In this work, we test the capability of an exact solution found in the framework of a nonlinear extension of the Israel-Stewart theory to fit the supernovae Ia, gravitational lensing, and black hole shadow data. This exact solution is a generalization of one previously found for a dissipative unified dark matter model in the context of the near-equilibrium description of dissipative processes, where we do not have the full regime of the nonlinear picture. This generalized solution is restricted to the case where a positive entropy production is guaranteed and is tested under the condition that ensures its causality, local existence, and uniqueness. From the observational constraints, we found that this generalized solution is a good candidate in the description of the observational late-time data used in this work, with best-fit values $H_{0}=73.2_{-0.9}^{+0.8}\,\frac{km/s}{Mpc}$, $q_{0}=-0.41_{-0.03}^{+0.03}$, $\hat{\xi}_{0}=0.88_{-0.17}^{+0.09}$, $\epsilon=0.34_{-0.04}^{+0.03}$, and $k=0.27_{-0.20}^{+0.37}$. Therefore, we show that the nonlinear regime of the Israel-Stewart theory consistently describes the recent accelerated expansion of the universe without the inclusion of some kind of dark energy component and also provides a more realistic description of the fluids that make up the late Universe., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures. Abstract

In this work we explore the scope of two holographic dark energy models within the interacting scenario for the dark sector and spatial curvature. For one holographic model we consider the usual formula for the dark energy density with the Hubble scale and the second model is given in terms of a function instead of a constant parameter as in the usual holographic formula. In this description both holographic models admit a future singularity. The use of recent cosmological data is considered only to support the physical results of our proposal. The interaction term for each holographic model, $Q$, keeps positive along the cosmic evolution and are not given a priori, they are reconstructed from the dynamics of the model. The temperatures for the components of the dark sector are computed and exhibit a growing behavior in both scenarios. The Transformer architecture has been successful across many domains, including natural language processing, computer vision and speech recognition. In keyword spotting, self-attention has primarily been used on top of convolutional or recurrent encoders. We investigate a range of ways to adapt the Transformer architecture to keyword spotting and introduce the Keyword Transformer (KWT), a fully self-attentional architecture that exceeds state-of-the-art performance across multiple tasks without any pre-training or additional data. Surprisingly, this simple architecture outperforms more complex models that mix convolutional, recurrent and attentive layers. KWT can be used as a drop-in replacement for these models, setting two new benchmark records on the Google Speech Commands dataset with 98.6% and 97.7% accuracy on the 12 and 35-command tasks respectively., Comment: Proceedings of INTERSPEECH

Abstract

In this work we explore two possible scenarios that can be considered to extend a recent proposed model by the authors known as reconstructed mimetic cosmology. This study is complemented with an statistical analysis for each case. The first scenario considers the inclusion of matter production as a possible source of cosmic expansion in the reconstructed mimetic model, at effective level was found that this construction can cross the phantom divide, the model evolves from quintessence to phantom dark energy. The second scenario corresponds to a construction of an interacting scheme for the dark sector which is described by the unified mimetic model. Abstract

Central obesity is a leading health concern with a great burden carried by ethnic minority populations, especially Hispanics/Latinos. Genetic factors contribute to the obesity burden overall and to inter-population differences. We aimed to identify the loci associated with central adiposity measured as waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist circumference (WC) and hip circumference (HIP) adjusted for body mass index (adjBMI) by using the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL); determine if differences in associations differ by background group within HCHS/SOL and determine whether previously reported associations generalize to HCHS/SOL. Our analyses included 7472 women and 5200 men of mainland (Mexican, Central and South American) and Caribbean (Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican) background residing in the USA. We explore the mimetic gravity formulation with the inclusion of a scalar field potential namely, $V(\phi)$. However, we are not considering any {\it a priori} specific form this term. Abstract

We explore the cosmological implications at effective level of matter creation effects in a dissipative fluid for a FLRW geometry; we also perform a statistical analysis for this kind of model. By considering an inhomogeneous Ansatz for the particle production rate we obtain that for created matter of dark matter type we can have a quintessence scenario or a future singularity known as little rip; in dependence of the value of a constant parameter, $\eta$, which characterizes the matter production effects. The dimensionless age of this kind of Universe is computed, showing that this number is greater than the standard cosmology value, this is typical of universes with presence of dark energy. The inclusion of baryonic matter is studied. By implementing the construction of the particle production rate for a dissipative fluid by considering two approaches for the expression of the bulk viscous pressure; we find that in Eckart model we have a big rip singularity leading to a catastrophic matter production and in the truncated version of the Israel-Stewart model such rate remains bounded leading to a quintessence scenario. By implementing two Ansatze for the torsion term, we find that the model admits a phantom regime or a quintessence behavior. This scheme differs from the $\Lambda$CDM model at the thermodynamical level. The resulting cosmic expansion is not adiabatic, the fulfillment of the second law of thermodynamics requires a positive torsion term, and the temperature of the cosmic fluid is always positive. The entropy of the torsion phantom scenario is negative, but introducing chemical potential solves this issue. For a Dirac-Milne type Universe, the torsion leads to a growing behavior for the temperature of the fluid but has no incidence on the rate of expansion., Comment: 20 pages, 1 figure. Abstract

We perform a study both statistical and theoretical for cosmological models of matter creation and their ability to describe effective phantom models of dark energy. Such models are beyond the $\Lambda$CDM model since the resulting cosmic expansion is not adiabatic. In fact, we show that this approach exhibits transient phantom/quintessence scenarios at present time and tends to the standard cosmological model at some stage of the cosmic evolution. We discuss some generalities of the thermodynamics properties for this type of cosmological model; we emphasize on the behavior of the temperature associated to dark matter, which keeps positive along cosmic evolution together with the entropy. The enrichment of this type of model by means of the incorporation of cosmological constant and dissipative effects in the fluid description to explore their cosmological consequences in the expansion of the universe is considered. Finally, a generalization for the matter production rate as an inhomogeneous expression of the Hubble parameter and its derivatives is discussed; as in all the cases examined, such election leads to an effective phantom/quintessence behavior., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures. Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae is recognized as a common cause of nosocomial infections and outbreaks causing pneumonia, septicemia, and urinary tract infections. This opportunistic bacterium shows an increasing acquisition of antibiotic-resistance genes, which complicates treatment of infections. Hence, fast reliable strain typing methods are paramount for the study of this opportunistic pathogens multi-drug resistance genetic profiles. In this study, thirty-eight strains of K. pneumoniae isolated from the blood of pediatric patients were characterized by whole-genome sequencing and genomic clustering methods. Genes encoding β-lactamase were found in all the bacterial isolates, among which the bla SHV variant was the most prevalent (53%). Moreover, genes encoding virulence factors such as fimbriae, capsule, outer membrane proteins, T4SS and siderophores were investigated. Additionally, a multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) analysis revealed 24 distinct sequence types identified within the isolates, among which the most frequently represented were ST76 (16%) and ST70 (11%). Based on LPS structure, serotypes O1 and O3 were the most prevalent, accounting for approximately 63% of all infections. The virulence capsular types K10, K136, and K2 were present in 16, 13, and 8% of the isolates, respectively. Phylogenomic analysis based on virtual genome fingerprints correlated with the MLST data. The phylogenomic reconstruction also denoted association between strains with a higher abundance of virulence genes and virulent serotypes compared to strains that do not possess these traits. This study highlights the value of whole-genomic sequencing in the surveillance of virulence attributes among clinical K. pneumoniae strains.

Abstract

The aero-pendulum is a non-linear system used broadly to develop and test new controller strategies. This paper presents a new methodology for an adaptive PID fuzzy-based tracking controller using a Hunting Search (HuS) algorithm. The HuS algorithm computes the parameters of the membership functions of the fuzzification stage. As a novelty, the algorithm guarantees the overlap of the membership functions to ensure that all the functions are interconnected, generating new hunters to search for better solutions in the overlapping area. For the defuzzification stage, the HuS algorithm sets the singletons in optimal positions to evaluate the controller response using the centroid method. To probe the robustness of the methodology, the PID fuzzy controller algorithm is implemented in an embedded system to track the angular position of an aero-pendulum test bench. The results show that the adaptive PID fuzzy controller proposed presents root mean square error values of 0.42, 0.40, and 0.49 for 80, 90, and 100 degrees, respectively.

44. Unified dissipative dark matter model in a non linear Israel-Stewart theory

Abstract

In this paper we study the Statefinder and $Om(x)$ diagnoses of an exact solution of a unified dissipative dark matter model in the framework the Israel-Stewart theory and its non linear extension, considering the condition of positive entropy production. The implementation of two diagnoses in the pair of solutions reveal that both solutions can emulate the $\Lambda$CDM model at some stage of the cosmic evolution and behave as quintessence dark energy. The stability of both solutions is discussed from the point of view of the Liapunov's method, showing that they are asymptotic stable. Additionally we show that the solutions are also stable under small perturbations. A simple analysis of the solutions with the use of observational data suggests that the non linear regime could lead to a inconsistencies-free scenario, i.e., in agreement with the bounds obtained from the perturbative analysis for the velocity of bulk viscous perturbations., Comment: New results were found and the core of the paper changed completely. Abstract

Supported by the use of a regular scalar field we find a black hole solution in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet model. From the obtained solution we can recover the Schwarzschild black hole as in other works. Later, by implementing the odd parity perturbations method we study the stability of the linearized equations of motion of the model, we find the explicit form of the Regge-Wheeler potential and we explore the condition of vanishing perturbations at the horizon of the black hole. We test the stability of the obtained solution by checking the positivity condition of the Regge-Wheeler potential. Finally, we show that the stability of model depends on the value of a parameter introduced in the profile for the scalar field., Comment: 15 pages, 1 figure

46. A thermodynamics revision of Rastall gravity

Abstract

In this work we study some aspects of the Rastall gravity, being the thermodynamics consistency of the model the core of this paper, for this purpose we will consider the dynamical equations of Rastall model in a flat FLRW geometry. Under a holographic description can be seen that this scenario for gravity contributes to the energy density of the fluid with an extra term that can be related to the deceleration parameter, providing a way to estimate the value of the Rastall parameter, termed as $\xi \lambda$, at present time. By adopting a specific Ansatz for the $\xi \lambda$ term it is possible to determine that the behaviour of the Hubble parameter in Rastall gravity has a similar aspect to the $\Lambda$CDM model at late times, but at thermodynamics level differs from the standard cosmology since the adiabatic behaviour for the entropy depends on the value of the parameter state, $\omega$. However, the entropy has a positive growth and simultaneously its convexity condition can be guaranteed; when other contributions are considered such as matter production and chemical potential, the adiabatic expansion can not be achieved, but the theory keeps its thermodynamics consistency. The resulting dynamics can be modeled by a set of Lotka-Volterra type equations. For this model a future singularity is allowed, therefore the cyclic behavior for the energy interchange between the components of the universe is present only at some stage of the cosmic evolution. Abstract

In this work we explore some cosmological properties coming from the particle and future horizons when are considered as candidates to model the dark energy sector within a holographic context in a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe; we focus on some thermodynamics characteristics of the resulting dark energy scenario. Within the interacting scheme for cosmological fluids we obtain that in the dark sector, the dark energy fluid will always have negative entropy production and additionally, the positivity for the entropy and temperature can not be guaranteed simultaneously; this result holds for both horizons. However, this last issue can be solved if chemical potential is introduced in the thermodynamics description. For the non interacting approach, we obtain similar results as those of the single fluid description for the entropy behavior. We also find that the model admits a genuine big rip singularity when the dark energy density is sketched by the future horizon, in consequence the resulting parameter state can cross to the phantom regime. For the particle horizon case the cosmological fluid can emulate ordinary matter and the coincidence parameter has a decreasing behavior when the future horizon is elected., Comment: 19 pages, no figures.
