Integrating the natural resource-based view theory, contingency theory and paradox theory, the current study investigates the impact of the green smart technologies adoption (GSTA) and green ambidextrous leadership (GAL) on green innovation performance (GIP), along with the mediating role of Green Innovation Behaviour (GIB). The research design for this study consists of a quantitative method, a positivism paradigm, a cross-sectional time horizon and a structured questionnaire survey. A total of 313 responses from Malaysian manufacturing firms were analysed using partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that GSTA, GAL and GIB positively impact GIP. Moreover, GIB mediates the association between GSTA and GIP, but there is no mediation observed in the GAL–GIP association. The results of this study provide valuable insights for policymakers, management and relevant stakeholders in developing countries on how to strike the right balance of exploitation and exploration leadership in uncertain and volatile market settings, while fostering GSTA and GIP. The adoption of GSTA and GAL improves manufacturing companies’ sustainability. Furthermore, these findings contribute to the Malaysian government’s commitment to the Nationally Determined Contribution towards the Paris Agreement, the Shared Prosperity 2030 vision and the proposed 15 key economic growth activities.

Global warming is becoming more and more of a concern, leading authorities to take action. The industrial sector is a key contributor to environmental and social problems. Based on stakeholder theory and agency theory, this research proposes that green innovation strategies at the firm level can overcome the industry’s negative environmental impact. As a result, the focus of this research is on green innovation strategies for corporate financing. In addition, this research suggests that corporate social responsibility and gender diversity directly affect corporate financing and their interaction. This study used Chinese 301 manufacturing firms (3010 observations) for the period 2010–2019 for this purpose. This study looks into panel data issues in depth by using approaches such as the fixed effect and generalized method of moment. The feasible generalized least square was employed to increase robustness. Furthermore, green innovation strategies were used for corporate financing. Second, the study discovered that corporate social responsibility aided firm financing. Our findings also imply that corporate social responsibility helps to attenuate the association amid green innovative strategies and corporate financing. Finally, these findings revealed that gender diversity had a favorable effect on corporate financing. Furthermore, this study confirmed that the moderating role of gender diversity is beneficial to green innovative strategies and corporate financing. These findings add to the literature by providing policymakers and regulatory bodies with useful information for advancing sustainable development.

This conceptual paper is initiated by the growing awareness of environmental and social responsibility issues. Companies’ excellent performance is no longer championed solely on financial matters but has expanded to environment and social perspectives, calling for the need for a sustainable performance measurements (SPMs) model. Frequent and in-depth sustainable reporting are expected to be more demanding and comprehensive in the future with an intense pressure on and expectation of various stakeholders. The adoption of sustainable performance reporting is already in place in developed countries such as Europe, the United States (US) and the United Kingdom(UK), but reporting is relatively low among developing nations especially countries from Asia; Malaysia is no exception. This is due to the fact that sustainability performance reporting in Malaysia is still in its infancy phase and is subject to plenty of uncertain issues particularly on SPMs models that need to be managed, measured and reported on. The SPMs model is developed to be applied in the Malaysian electronic and electrical industry as this industry is subjected to intense scrutiny from Western Nations in term of environmental and social compliance. This paper, therefore, aims to mitigate the problem by constructing a framework of SPMs models in order to promote genuine sustainable reporting among the industry.

This study delineates the exchange rate volatilities of four ASEAN economies, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore from four main aspects such as the movement of exchange rate and its macroeconomic factors, the regime-specific fundamental volatility and the impact of exchange rate volatility on economic fundamentals over the 1980-2004 period. This study aims to explore the exchange rate volatilities of these economies in providing a credible understanding of the behaviour of exchange rate volatilities and macroeconomic fundamentals. Exchange rate volatility is the risk occurred due to an excessive movement of exchange rate and many measures have been employed in the literature in estimating it. In this study, the exchange rate volatility is computed based on the exponential-GARCH specification, an extension of the widely-used GARCH model. The empirical results indicate that the Indonesian rupiah exhibited the highest volatility while the Singapore dollar fluctuated with the least. In between these two currencies are the Thai baht and Malaysian ringgit which were the second most volatile and second least volatile respectively.Exchange rate stability will benefit both policy makers and businesses. In view of the importance of exchange rate stability, this study examines the second aspect of exchange rate volatility to understand its macroeconomic factors. The results reveal that exchange rate volatility and relative macro variables are linked in both short- and long run although the short-run results seem to suggest that the influences of macroeconomic factors on the exchange rate volatility might differ given the different degrees of economic condition as well as financial and trade reforms. The result suggests that the significant common set factor is generated by stock market. The other aspect is to examine the macroeconomic shocks across alternative exchange rate arrangements for Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand - three countries that have experience

This study investigates the dynamic relationships amongst the KLSE stock prices, macro variables and economic growth. It is a general belief that the macro variables, namely the inflation rate, interest rate, aggregate output, money supply, exchange rate and the trade balance are some prominent factors to the performance of the stock market. The stock market, in tum, is one of the leading indicators for the economic growth. The VAR model of Johansen-Jeselius multivariate cointegration test, multivariate Granger-causality test, and also the impulse response function are applied to capture the dynamic linkages among those variables over the period of 1987:1 to 1997:2. In this study, the Composite Index is used to represent the general performance of the market. The performance of individual sectors, on the other hand, is measured by the individual sectoral indices. These sectoral indices include the Industrial Index, Finance Index, Property Index, Plantation Index and the Mining Index. The empirical results of this study indicate that the stock indices and macroeconomic variables are moving together towards its equilibrium path in the long run. In the short run, there are evidences of contemporaneous causality running between the variables. The results show that the general performance of market, which is reflected by the Composite Index, is caused by the changes in inflation, output, money supply and the trade balance. The sectoral performance, on the other hand, has shown different responses to the fluctuations in the macroeconomic variables. The property sector appears to be the least sensible to these fluctuations. Besides, the physical capital, stock capitalisation and its trading activities are also the important factors that contribute to the economic growth. This study thus implies that an efficient management of macroeconomic policies will promote a better performance of stock market, which in turn helps to achieve a stronger and sustainable economic growth.
