1. Irrelevance of 1H composition to the superconductivity in the infinite-layer nickelates: judging from the MeV energy scale

Abstract

The discovery of the superconductivity in the infinite-layer nickelates, as topotactically reduced from their respective perovskite percussors via co-annealing with CaH2, extends the understanding in superconductivity. Nevertheless, whether the incorporated 1H composition is critical to the infinite-layer superconductivity recently arouses considerable debates, while the central challenge lies in the quantification of 1H that is easily interfered by the conventional electron or orbital associated processes. Herein, we demonstrate the irrelevance between the superconductivity in the infinite-layer nickelates and their incorporated 1H composition, assisted by nuclear reaction analysis (NRA) and heavy ion energy recoil detection analysis (HIERDA) based on the nuclear interactions at MeV energy scale. These approaches completely overwhelm the conventional interferes, such as ionization, activation and chemical bonds, and achieves the 1H quantification within superconducting La0.8Sr0.2NiO2 (or Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2). A large diversity of 1H composition far beyond the previously expected critical dome was observed, while their TC were not changed significantly. Furthermore, the superconductivity was demonstrated to be achievable for La0.8Sr0.2NiO2 reduced by Al without any hydrogen associated process, while the superconducting properties for the CaH2 reduced La0.8Sr0.2NiO2 is rather stable after long term exposure in air, despite the high volatility of 1H within oxides. All these results indicate that the 1H incorporation composition is not critical to the superconductivity of the infinite-layer nickelates.

Abstract

Bronchoscopy with transbronchial biopsy is a minimally invasive and effective method for early lung cancer intervention. Robot-assisted bronchoscopy offers improved precision, spatial flexibility, and reduced risk of cross-infection. This paper introduces a novel teleoperated robotic bronchoscopy system and a three-stage procedure designed for robot-assisted bronchoscopy. The robotic mechanism enables a clinical practice similar to traditional bronchoscopy, augmented by the control of a novel variable stiffness catheter for tissue sampling. A rapid prototype of the robotic system has been fully developed and validated through in-vivo experiments. The results demonstrate the potential of the proposed robotic bronchoscopy system and variable stiffness catheter in enhancing accuracy and safety during bronchoscopy procedures.

Abstract

Learning fine-grained interplay between vision and language allows to a more accurate understanding for VisionLanguage tasks. However, it remains challenging to extract key image regions according to the texts for semantic alignments. Most existing works are either limited by textagnostic and redundant regions obtained with the frozen detectors, or failing to scale further due to its heavy reliance on scarce grounding (gold) data to pre-train detectors. To solve these problems, we propose Self-Locator Aided Network (SLAN) for cross-modal understanding tasks without any extra gold data. SLAN consists of a region filter and a region adaptor to localize regions of interest conditioned on different texts. By aggregating cross-modal information, the region filter selects key regions and the region adaptor updates their coordinates with text guidance. With detailed region-word alignments, SLAN can be easily generalized to many downstream tasks. It achieves fairly competitive results on five cross-modal understanding tasks (e.g., 85.7% and 69.2% on COCO image-to-text and text-to-image retrieval, surpassing previous SOTA methods). Abstract

In this work, we propose a bi-directional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) network based COVID-19 detection method using breath/speech/cough signals. By using the acoustic signals to train the network, respectively, we can build individual models for three tasks, whose parameters are averaged to obtain an average model, which is then used as the initialization for the BiLSTM model training of each task. This initialization method can significantly improve the performance on the three tasks, which surpasses the official baseline results. Besides, we also utilize a public pre-trained model wav2vec2.0 and pre-train it using the official DiCOVA datasets. This wav2vec2.0 model is utilized to extract high-level features of the sound as the model input to replace conventional mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) features. Experimental results reveal that using high-level features together with MFCC features can improve the performance. To further improve the performance, we also deploy some preprocessing techniques like silent segment removal, amplitude normalization and time-frequency mask. The proposed detection model is evaluated on the DiCOVA dataset and results show that our method achieves an area under curve (AUC) score of 88.44% on blind test in the fusion track., Comment: Accepted by ICASSP 2022

6. Exploration of interacting dynamical dark energy model with interaction term including the equation-of-state parameter: alleviation of the $H_{0}$ tension

Abstract

We explore a scenario of interacting dynamical dark energy model with the interaction term $Q$ including the varying equation-of-state parameter $w$. Using the data combination of the cosmic microwave background, the baryon acoustic oscillation, and the type Ia supernovae, to global fit the interacting dynamical dark energy model, we find that adding a factor of the varying $w$ in the function of $Q$ can change correlations between the coupling constant $\beta$ and other parameters, and then has a huge impact on the fitting result of $\beta$. In this model, the fitting value of $H_{0}$ is lower at the $3.54 \sigma$ level than the direct measurement value of $H_{0}$ . Comparing to the case of interacting dynamical dark energy model with $Q$ excluding $w$, the model with $Q$ including the constant $w$ is more favored by the current mainstream observation. To obtain higher fitting values of $H_{0}$ and narrow the discrepancy of $H_{0}$ between different observations, additional parameters including the effective number of relativistic species, the total neutrino mass, and massive sterile neutrinos are considered in the interacting dynamical dark energy cosmology. We find that the $H_{0}$ tension can be further reduced in these models, but is still at the about $3 \sigma$ level., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Obtaining discriminative joint features is crucial for skeleton-based human action recognition. Current models mainly focus on the research of skeleton topology encoding. However, their predefined topology is the same and fixed for all action samples, making it challenging to obtain discriminative joint features. Although some studies have considered the complex non-natural connection relationships between joints, the existing methods cannot fully capture this complexity by using high-order adjacency matrices or adding trainable parameters and instead increase the computation parameters. Therefore, this study constructs a novel adaptive channel-enhanced graph convolution (ACE-GCN) model for human action recognition. The model generates similar and affinity attention maps by encoding channel attention in the input features. These maps are complementarily applied to the input feature map and graph topology, which can realize the refinement of joint features and construct an adaptive and non-shared channel-based adjacency matrix. This method of constructing the adjacency matrix improves the model's capacity to capture intricate non-natural connections between joints, prevents the accumulation of unnecessary information, and minimizes the number of computational parameters. In addition, integrating the Edgeconv module into a multi-branch aggregation improves the model's ability to aggregate different scale and temporal features. Ultimately, comprehensive experiments were carried out on NTU-RGB+D 60 and NTU-RGB+D 120, which are two substantial datasets. On the NTU RGB+D 60 dataset, the accuracy of human action recognition was 92% (X-Sub) and 96.3% (X-View). The model achieved an accuracy of 96.6% on the NW-UCLA dataset. 16. Millimeter‐wave dielectric characteristics of Sr1−xCaxSmAlO4 ceramics.

Abstract

Millimeter‐wave dielectric characteristrics of Sr1−xCaxSmAlO4 ceramics were investigated together with their structures. The solid solution in the space group I4/mmm was determined in the entire composition range, and the excellent microwave dielectric characteristics were not only obtained in the centimeter‐wave range but also in the millimeter‐wave range. The dielectric constant εr indicated a slight decrease from 19.5, and the significantly improved Q×f value was achieved, while the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency τf became more negative (from −3.4 to −12 ppm/°C) with increasing x. Q×f value showed apparent increase with increasing frequency, and the Q×f value at 28 GHz was improved from 88 000 to 160000 GHz with increasing x. The best combination of millimeter‐wave dielectric characteristics was achieved at x = 0.6: εr = 19, Q×f = 143 300 GHz (at 27.3 GHz), and τf = −9.3 ppm/°C. Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda poses a severe threat to crops, causing substantial economic losses. The increased use of chemical pesticides has led to resistance in S. frugiperda populations. Micro ribonucleic acids (MicroRNAs or miRNAs) are pivotal in insect growth and development. This study aims to identify miRNAs across different developmental stages of S. frugiperda to explore differential expression and predict target gene functions. High-throughput sequencing of miRNAs was conducted on eggs, 3rd instar larvae, pupae, and adults. Bioinformatics analyses identified differentially expressed miRNAs specifically in larvae, with candidate miRNAs screened to predict target genes, particularly those involved in detoxification pathways. A total of 184 known miRNAs and 209 novel miRNAs were identified across stages. Comparative analysis revealed 54, 15, and 18 miRNAs differentially expressed in larvae, compared to egg, pupa, and adult stages, respectively. Eight miRNAs showed significant differential expression across stages, validated by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses predicted target genes' functions, identifying eight differentially expressed miRNAs targeting 10 gene families associated with detoxification metabolism, including P450s, glutathione S-transferase (GSTs), ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, and sodium channels. These findings elucidate the species-specific miRNA profiles and regulatory mechanisms of detoxification-related genes in S. frugiperda larvae, offering insights and strategies for effectively managing this pest. Abstract

Near‐infrared (NIR) chiroptical response has been less explored because it is challenging to achieve both chirality and NIR absorption/emission. Herein, we describe the design of heterohelicene‐type β‐isoindigo‐based boron‐dipyrromethene (BODIPY) analogs (β‐IBs), which shift the absorption peak to 800 nm and produce significant Cotton effects (127.8 M−1 cm−1) and absorbance dissymmetry factors (|gabs| = 3.5 × 10−3). The luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) brightness (BCPL) of up to 1.24 × 10−3 and 1.78 M−1 cm−1 were realized beyond 800 nm. These β‐IBs are the first examples of helicene‐type compounds with the highest gabs in the NIR region and CPL beyond 800 nm. Theoretical calculations demonstrate that the strong chiroptical activities are triggered by their large transition magnetic dipole moments. This study not only provides a new approach to the synthesis of a larger variety of unprecedented helicene‐type BODIPY analogs but also demonstrates excellent NIR chiroptical properties. 24. Kinetics study on cobalt leaching from cobalt-bearing ternary sulfide in sulfuric acid solution under atmospheric pressure

Abstract

The leaching of cobalt from cobalt-bearing ternary sulfide with sulfuric acid solution under atmospheric pressure was investigated. The influence of stirring speed, leaching temperature, H2SO4concentration, and particle size on the leaching efficiency of cobalt was studied, and the kinetics analysis of cobalt leaching from the cobalt-bearing ternary sulfide was performed. The results showed that cobalt and iron were selectively leached with high efficiency (>99%) under the optimal conditions, while molybdenum and copper were enriched in residues. According to the analysis of the experimental data, the leaching of cobalt conformed to the shrinking core model with a solid product layer and was controlled by internal diffusion. The activation energy of the leaching reaction was 49.86 kJ/mol, and the reaction orders of H2SO4concentration and particle size were 0.57 and –1.4, respectively.

Abstract

The recent discovery of superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates generates tremendous research endeavors, but the ground state of their parent compounds is still under debate. Here, we report experimental evidence for the dominant role of Kondo scattering in the underdoped Nd1−xSrxNiO2 thin films. A resistivity minimum associated with logarithmic temperature dependence in both longitudinal and Hall resistivities are observed in the underdoped Nd1−xSrxNiO2 samples before the superconducting transition. At lower temperatures down to 0.04 K, the resistivities become saturated, following the prediction of the Kondo model. A linear scaling behavior |$\sigma _{{\boldsymbol{xy}}}^{{{\bf AHE}}}{\rm{\ }}\sim{\rm{\ }}{\sigma }_{{\boldsymbol{xx}}}$| between anomalous Hall conductivity |$\sigma _{{\boldsymbol{xy}}}^{{\bf{AHE}}}$| and conductivity |${\sigma }_{{\boldsymbol{xx}}}{\rm{\ }}$| is revealed, verifying the dominant Kondo scattering at low temperature. The effect of weak (anti-)localization is found to be secondary. Our experiments can help in clarifying the basic physics in the underdoped Nd1−xSrxNiO2 infinite-layer thin films. Abstract

An investigation was performed into the stability of three emulsion explosives, namely bulk, packaged and powdery emulsion explosive. The dynamic stability is crucial for bulk emulsion explosive, and the experimental results show that it will possibly achieve both good dynamic stability and fluidity when polyisobutene succinic anhydride (PIBSA) based emulsifiers, such as PIBSA-DTEA, PIBSA-TEA and PIBSA-STEA etc, used alone in preparing explosive. Opposite with that, the long-term storage stability is much more important for packaged emulsion explosive. In several PIBSA based emulsifiers, polyisobutene succinimide (PIBSI) is more suitable for improving the stability of packaged emulsion explosive. Moreover, the stability also can be improved through rising the toughness of oil film, like adding a certain amount of microcrystalline wax. The caking of ammonium nitrate (AN) crystals with time is the key reason, which decreasing the stability of powdery emulsion explosive. The caking phenomenon will be weakened with the addition of rosin because the softened rosin can allow the repair of damaged oil film and prevent AN crystals breaking the oil film. Besides that, adding potassium nitrate to AN solution or a certain amount of talcum powder also can effectively improve the stability.

【Abstract】Objective: Radiation is an important cause of delayed wound healing, and there still exist many questions regarding the patterns and mechanisms of wound healing. This study investigated the characteristics of wound healing after varying doses of local radiation and explored possible causes of the delay in healing caused by radiation. Methods: A full-thickness dorsal longitudinal skin tissue, 2 cm in diameter, was excised after local irradiation on one side of the back of swine, and the other side was wounded as a control. The size of the wound area was re-corded every two days after injury. Pathological changes, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA, immunohisto-chemistry) and apoptosis levels (TUNEL assay) were mea-sured at different time points after wounding. Results: The course of wound healing can be divided into four phases, namely: the arresting phase, the healing priming phase, the fast healing phase, and the healed phase. Although the total wound healing time was closely corre-lated to the dose of irradiation (R 2 = 0.9758), it was more dependent on the length of the arresting phase (R 2 =0.9903) because once the arresting phase ended, the wound healed at a similar speed regardless of radiation doses. Pathologi-cal analysis showed that compared with the control side there were more necrotic tissues, slower epithelial crawling, as well as fewer blood vessels and cellular components in the irradiated side at the arresting phase, while other phases revealed no significant difference concerning these measurements. Immunohistochemistry showed that the ir-radiated wounds had significantly less PCNA-positive and more TUNEL-positive labeling of cells in the arresting phase than in other phases. Moreover, the changes were posi-tively related to the radiation doses, but there was no obvi-ous difference in cell proliferation or apoptosis among the healing priming phase, fast healing phase or healed phase, whether on the control side or on the irradiated side. Conclusions: After local irradiation, the length of the arresting phase determines the wound healing time. In-creased apoptosis and decreased cell proliferation might be an important reason for the formation of the arresting phase. Key words: Apoptosis; Cell proliferation; Radiation; Wound healing

Abstract

We explore a scenario of interacting dynamical dark energy model with the interaction term $Q$ including the varying equation-of-state parameter $w$. Using the data combination of the cosmic microwave background, the baryon acoustic oscillation, and the type Ia supernovae, to global fit the interacting dynamical dark energy model, we find that adding a factor of the varying $w$ in the function of $Q$ can change correlations between the coupling constant $\beta$ and other parameters, and then has a huge impact on the fitting result of $\beta$. In this model, the fitting value of $H_{0}$ is lower at the $3.54 \sigma$ level than the direct measurement value of $H_{0}$ . Comparing to the case of interacting dynamical dark energy model with $Q$ excluding $w$, the model with $Q$ including the constant $w$ is more favored by the current mainstream observation. To obtain higher fitting values of $H_{0}$ and narrow the discrepancy of $H_{0}$ between different observations, additional parameters including the effective number of relativistic species, the total neutrino mass, and massive sterile neutrinos are considered in the interacting dynamical dark energy cosmology. We find that the $H_{0}$ tension can be further reduced in these models, but is still at the about $3 \sigma$ level., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

Following the earlier use of tungsten pyrometallurgy, e.g. sintering soda method, several hydrometallurgical processes have been developed in the country. These incorporate techniques such as mechanical activation and alkali autoclave in alkaline decomposition, alkali ion exchange and acid solvent extraction in purification, and resin adsorption and selective precipitation in separation of tungsten and molybdenum. The application of a sulphuric acid-phosphoric acid leaching process for extracting tungsten from low-grade scheelite is described. Abstract

We investigated the feeding sites of the Nonggang Babbler (Stachyris nonggangensis) during three time periods (July-September, 2010; November-December, 2010; January-February, 2011) in Nonggang National Nature Reserve, Guangxi, China with the line transect method and sampling method. Principal component analysis of the data identified that the feeding sites in the rainy season were dominated by factors consisting of tree layer, the layer of fallen leaves and the herb layer; whereas the feeding sites in the dry season were dominated by factors dependant on terrain, herb layer and shrub layer. The results of a circular distribution analysis showed that the Nonggang Babbler preferred feeding sites with a gentle slope in both the rainy season and dry season. The tests of differences of the variables between used and control plots indicated that with low arbor coverage in the rainy season, whereas with a low slope position, high shrub and thick fallen leaves in the dry season. In comparison with the rainy season, the feeding sites in the dry season tended to be at lower altitude, to have a lower slope position, lower grass coverage, and to be covered with a larger and thicker bed of fallen leaves. A logistic regression analysis suggested that altitude, slope, and shatter cover were the most important factors influencing feeding site selection in the rainy season. Slope position, arbor cover, grass cover, and the thickness of the shatter cover were the most important factors influencing feeding site selection in the dry season.

Abstract

Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a frequent complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been used as routine prophylaxis for HO after THA. However, the efficacy of NSAIDs on HO, particularly selective NSAIDs versus nonselective NSAIDs, is uncertain. We searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and clinicaltrials.gov to identify randomized controlled trials with respect to HO after THA. Two reviewers extracted the data and estimated the risk of bias. For the ordered data, we followed the Bayesian framework to calculate the odds ratio (OR) with a 95% credible interval (CrI). For the dichotomous data, the OR and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using Stata version 12.0. The subgroup analyses and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach were used. A total of 1856 articles were identified, and 21 studies (5995 patients) were included. In the NSAIDs versus placebo analysis, NSAIDs could decrease the incidence of HO, according to the Brooker scale (OR = 2.786, 95% CrI 1.879–3.993) and Delee scale (OR = 9.987, 95% CrI 5.592–16.17). In the selective NSAIDs versus nonselective NSAIDs analysis, there was no significant difference (OR = 0.7989, 95% CrI 0.5506–1.125) in the prevention of HO. NSAIDs could increase discontinuation caused by gastrointestinal side effects (DGSE) (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.00–1.63, P = 0.046) more than a placebo. Selective NSAIDs could decrease DGSE (OR = 0.48, 95% CI 0.24–0.97, P = 0.042) compared with the nonselective NSAIDs. There was no significant difference with respect to discontinuation caused by nongastrointestinal side effects (DNGSE) in NSAIDs versus a placebo (OR = 1.16, 95% CI 0.88–1.53, P = 0.297) and in selective NSAIDs versus nonselective NSAIDs (OR = 0.83, 95% CI 0.50–1.37, P = 0.462). NSAIDs might reduce the incidence of HO and increase DGSE in the short-term.

Abstract

To ensure the safety of bridges, the comfort of pedestrians and vehicles on bridges, the vortex-induced forces on flat-steel-box girders need to be investigated. The total vortex-induced forces integrated on the surfaces of girders have been studied extensively. This study will be mainly focused on the characteristics of surface distributed vortex-induced force, which can be beneficial to the vortex-induced vibration (VIV) reduction with local aerodynamic optimization. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method is employed for the simulation of the VIVof a flat-steel-box girder. The simulation results are verified through the comparison with the results of corresponding wind tunnel test. A self-adaptive nonlinear fitting method is proposed to determine the vortex-induced force model. A vortex-induced force contribution factor is defined to account the contribution of the components and the surface location. Based on the surface distributed vortex-induced force analysis, several conclusions are made. The vortex-induced force presents a fairly strong multiple-frequency characteristic, and the high-order terms should be carefully considered. Most energy of the VIV comes from the linear and third-order aerodynamic damping terms. In terms of location, the roof takes most of the aerodynamic damping and the total vortex-induced force. The flow separation around the underside upstream corner, the underside downstream corner and the middle downstream comer lead to large third-order aerodynamic damping term. The flow separation around the underside upstream corner has great contribution to the linear aerodynamic stiffness term. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

47. An optimized strategy of nitrogen-split application based on the leaf positional differences in chlorophyll meter readings

Abstract

Modern rice production faces the multiple challenges of increasing grain yields, reducing inputs of chemical fertilizer. However, the disequilibrium between nitrogen (N) supplement from the soil and the demands for N of plants is a serious obstacle to these goals. Plant-based diagnosis can help farmers with better choice of the time and amount of topdressing of N fertilizer. Our objective was to evaluate a non-destructive assessment of rice N demands based on the relative SPAD value (RSPAD) due to leaf positional differences. In this study, two field experiments were conducted, including a field experiment of different N rates (Exp. I) and an experiment to evaluate the new strategy of nitrogen-split application based on RSPAD (Exp. II). The results showed that higher N inputs significantly increased grain yield in modern high yielding super rice, but at the expense of lower nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). N nutrition index (NNI) can adequately evaluate situations of excessive, optimal, and insufficient N nutrition in rice, and the optimal N rate for modern high yielding rice is higher than conventional cultivars. The RSPAD is calculated as the SPAD value of top fully expanded leaf versus the value of third leaf, which taking into account of non-uniform N distribution within a canopy. RSPAD can be used as an indicator for higher yield and NUE, and guide for better management of N fertilizer. Furthermore, we developed a new strategy of nitrogen-split application based on RSPAD, in which N rate was saved by 18.7%, yield was increased by 1.7%, and agronomic N use efficiency was increased by 27.8%, when compared with farmers’ practices. This strategy of N fertilization showed a great potential in ensuring high yielding and improving NUE at lower N inputs.

Abstract

To deal with the complexity and uncertainty of distribution network fault information, a method of fault diagnosis based on granular computing and BP is proposed. This method uses attribute reduction advantages of granular computing theory and self-learning and knowledge acquisition ability of BP neural network. It put granular computing theory as the front-end processor of the BP neural network, namely simplify primitive information making use of granular computing reduction, and according to the concepts of relative granularity and significance of attributes based on binary granular computing are proposed to select input of BP, thereby reducing solving scale, and then construct neural network based on the minimum attribute sets, using BP neural network to model and parameter identify, reduce the BP study training time, improve the accuracy of the fault diagnosis. 50. Influence of surface microstructure on explosive electron emission properties of graphite cathode doped by silicon carbide whiskers

Abstract

Explosive emission cathode (EEC) is a pivotal component in high power microwave source (HPMS), of which the ultimate properties are significantly dependent on the quality of electron beams generated from the cathode. Short lifetime and poor emission uniformity are the persistent drawbacks of conventional field EEC. Improvement of cathode material by changing its compositions and modifying surface micromorphology, is a feasible way to solve this problem. Graphite is one of the frequently used materials for EECs due to its long life-time and sturdy performance under high voltage and repetition frequency. Meanwhile silicon carbide (SiC) whiskers are distinguished by high aspect ratio (ratio of height to diameter) and low work function which is in favor of the fast onset of electron emission. In this work, the novel composites, composed of SiC whiskers, pitch and major graphite powders, are prepared by the conventional mingling and sintering. The cathodes are installed on TPG1000 system with a parameterized pulse of 970 kV, 9.2 kA, and 50 ns. By analyzing the changes of the rise edge of measured diode current and output microwave pulse duration, the effects of material composition and surface micromorphology on electron emission properties for the cathode are disclosed in detail. The results, based on the comparison of emission properties between graphite cathodes with and without SiC whiskers doped, reveal that SiC whiskers play an important role in accelerating the field emission of cathode, which is demonstrated by the eclipse of displacement current peak on the rise edge of measured current waveform after doping. Meanwhile, the duration of output microwave pulse is enhanced by about 11% after doping, which could be explained by the lower expansion speed of Si plasma. Moreover, the surface micro-protrusions of graphite cathode doped by SiC whiskers are constantly “polished” by heating effect and cathode plasma as the number of emission pulses increases to 11000. This is in quite good agreement with the appearance of the displacement current peak on the rise edge of measured current curves after 6000 and 11000 pulses treatment. These changes imply that the initial speed of field emission from cathode is slowed down gradually. The output microwave pulse starts early, which is benefited from the homogeneous surface micromorphology of the cathode due to “polishing” effect. The quantity of releasing absorbed gases, including water and vacuum pump oil vapor, decreases with increasing emission pulses. Then the pulse shortening phenomenon is restrained and the falling edge of output microwave pulse is extended. The duration of output microwave pulse is increased by about 5%, for graphite cathode doped by SiC whiskers after experiencing 11000 pulses. In conclusion, the reaction mechanism of SiC whiskers in the process of explosive electron emission (EEE) is considered as being due to accelerating the onset of felid emission and reducing the expansion speed of cathode plasma. Therefore, combination with SiC whiskers is an effective way to improve the electron emission properties of graphite EECs, especially in the output microwave pulse width and energy conversion efficiency of HPMS.
