4. Improvement of image classification by multiple optical scattering

Abstract

Multiple optical scattering occurs when light propagates in a non-uniform medium. During the multiple scattering, images were distorted and the spatial information they carried became scrambled. However, the image information is not lost but presents in the form of speckle patterns (SPs). In this study, we built up an optical random scattering system based on an LCD and an RGB laser source. We found that the image classification can be improved by the help of random scattering which is considered as a feedforward neural network to extracts features from image. Along with the ridge classification deployed on computer, we achieved excellent classification accuracy higher than 94%, for a variety of data sets covering medical, agricultural, environmental protection and other fields. In addition, the proposed optical scattering system has the advantages of high speed, low power consumption, and miniaturization, which is suitable for deploying in edge computing applications.

15. Significant Non-Bias-Field Magnetoelectric Response and High Output Power in a Novel Combination Based on Terfenol-D and Electrets

Abstract

A new magnetoelectric (ME) sensing combination based on a magnetostrictive Terfenol-D rod and electret membrane has been proposed. AC signal and dc bias magnetic field dependences of the induced ac voltage were investigated using the traditional dynamic ME measurement. The results show that the induced ac voltage is strongly dependent on the applied ac signal and dc bias magnetic field. A significant ME response with high sensitivity and high tunability was obtained, and the optimized ME voltage output with high output power is observed for a zero bias dc magnetic field. The minimum limit of detection and maximum dc bias field tunability are 0.056 mA (or 5.27 $\times \,\,10^{-{7}}$ T) and 98.42%, respectively. In addition, both the induced ac voltage and output power are strongly dependent on the frequency of the driving ac signal magnetic field. A wide working frequency range and high energy conversion efficiency are observed with this combination. These findings not only provide insight into the dynamic measurement of ME response beyond ME materials but also provide a new type of sensing combination, possessing potential application in ME sensors, energy converters, switches, and magnetic detectors.

19. Preparation of a Hybrid TiO 2 and 1T/2H-MoS 2 Photocatalyst for the Degradation of Tetracycline Hydrochloride.

Abstract

Water pollution caused by antibiotics is a growing problem. Semiconductor photocatalysis is an environmentally friendly technology that can effectively degrade organic pollutants in water. Therefore, the development of efficient photocatalysts is of great significance to solve the environmental pollution problem. In this paper, mixed-phase TiO 2 and 1T/2H-MoS 2 composite (1T/2H-MoS 2 /TiO 2 ) were synthesized by the in situ growth method. The prepared compounds were characterized and applied to the visible-light degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride. The photocatalytic effect of 1T/2H-MoS 2 /TiO 2 on tetracycline hydrochloride is significantly enhanced under visible light and has good stability. 20. In Situ Growth of Metallic 1T-MoS 2 on TiO 2 Nanotubes with Improved Photocatalytic Performance.

Abstract

1T-MoS 2 is in situ grown on TiO 2 nanotubes (TNTs) using a hydrothermal method, forming a 1T-MoS 2 @TNTs composite, which is confirmed by its physical characterization. The prepared composites show enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light, and the improved photocatalytic activity is closely related to the loaded amount of 1T-MoS 2 . Therein, 0.5 wt % 1T-MoS 2 @TNTs can degrade 57% in 1 h, which is the highest photocatalytic efficiency observed in experiments so far. It is speculated that the introduction of 1T-MoS 2 may optimize light absorption and charge separation/transport.
