The widespread implementation of surveillance systems on construction sites has led to the accumulation of vast amounts of visual data, highlighting the need for an effective semantic analysis methodology. Natural language, as the most intuitive mode of expression, can significantly enhance the interpretability of such data. The adoption of multi-modality models promotes the interaction between surveillance video and textual data, thereby enabling managers to swiftly comprehend on-site dynamics. This study introduces a Visual Question Answering (VQA) approach for the construction industry and presents a specialized dataset to address the unique requirements of on-site management. Utilizing a Vision Transformer (ViT) architecture, the proposed model conducts feature extraction, fusion and interaction between visual and textual features. An additional projection layer is added to establish a transfer learning strategy that is optimized for construction site data. This novel approach facilitates rapid alignment of visual and language features in the model and is validated through ablation studies. The proposed approach achieves a testing accuracy of 83.8%, effectively converting image data from construction sites into natural language descriptions that enhance the analysis of construction processes. Compared to existing methods, this approach does not rely on object detection and allows for the direct extraction of deep-level semantic information from the on-site images. This study further discusses the feasibility of applying VQA within the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, examines its limitations, and offers suggestions for viable future directions of development.

ABSTRACT The rhizosphere soil properties and microbial communities of Lilium tsingtauense, an endangered wild plant, have not been examined in previous studies. Here, we characterized spatial variation in soil properties and microbial communities in the rhizosphere of L. tsingtauense. We measured the abundance of L. tsingtauense at different altitudes and collected rhizosphere and bulk soils at three representative altitudes. The results showed that L. tsingtauense was more abundant, and the rhizosphere soil was richer in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, water content, and organic matter and more acidic at high altitudes than at lower altitudes. The diversity and richness of rhizosphere bacteria and fungi increased with altitude and were higher in rhizosphere soil than in bulk soil. In addition, ectomycorrhizal fungi, endophytic fungi, and nitrogen-fixing bacteria were more abundant, and plant-pathogenic fungi were less abundant at high altitudes. Co-occurrence network analysis identified four key phyla (Bacteroidota, Proteobacteria, Ascomycota, and Basidiomycota) in the microbial communities. We identified a series of microbial taxa (Acidobacteriales, Xanthobacteraceae, and Chaetomiaceae) and rhizosphere soil metabolites (phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine) that are crucial for the survival of L. tsingtauense. Correlation analysis and random forest analysis showed that some environmental factors were closely related to the rhizosphere soil microbial community and played an important role in predicting the distribution and growth status of L. tsingtauense. In sum, the results of this study revealed altitudinal variation in the rhizosphere microbial communities of L. tsingtauense and the factors driving this variation. Our findings also have implications for habitat restoration and the conservation of this species.IMPORTANCEOur study highlighted the importance of the rhizosphere microbial community of the endangered plant L. tsingtauense. We found that soil pH plays an important role in the survival of L. tsingtauense. Our results demonstrated that a series of microbial taxa (Acidobacteriales, Xanthobacteraceae, Aspergillaceae, and Chaetomiaceae) and soil metabolites (phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine) could be essential indicators for L. tsingtauense habitat. We also found that some environmental factors play an important role in shaping rhizosphere microbial community structure. Collectively, these results provided new insights into the altitudinal distribution of L. tsingtauense and highlight the importance of microbial communities in their growth.

Abstract In a deforming partially molten rock, melt concentrates into a grain‐scale melt pocket aligned at a preferred orientation (melt‐preferred orientation, or MPO). However, observing this texture alone provides limited information on the 3D orientation and geometry of these melt pockets, which are critical parameters for estimating permeability. Here, we modeled the MPO of experimentally deformed peridotites by simulating melt streaks arising from melt pockets of various shapes and 3D orientations. The model aims to identify 3D distribution and characteristics of melt pockets that could account for the observed length, thickness, and the probability of melt streaks. Results show that melt pockets at preferred orientation exhibit greater length, thickness, and number density compared to those perpendicular. These results can be incorporated into the simulation of melt flow through individual melt pockets, which allows us to estimate the permeability corresponding to the observed MPO. We found that the permeability of vertically compressed peridotites increases with increasing compressive strain and a more elongated and thickened shape for melt pocket aligned at preferred orientation. The vertical permeability in the sample with 30% compressive strain is at least 40 times larger than that of an undeformed sample. For peridotites deformed under simple shear, the permeability exhibits an anisotropy of at least three. Such anisotropic permeability, coupled with the formation of melt‐rich bands and other melt channels, is believed to cause lateral melt focusing beneath mid‐ocean ridges.

Abstract Plant Myeloblastosis (MYB) proteins function crucially roles upon variegated abiotic stresses. Nonetheless, their effects and mechanisms in rose (Rosa chinensis) are not fully clarified. In this study, we characterized the effects of rose RcMYB8 under salt and drought tolerances. For induction of the RcMYB8 expression, NaCl and drought stress treatment were adopted. Rose plants overexpressing RcMYB8 displayed enhanced tolerance to salinity and drought stress, while silencing RcMYB8 resulted in decreased tolerance, as evidenced by lowered intra-leaf electrolyte leakage and callose deposition, as well as photosynthetic sustainment under stressed conditions. Here, we further show that RcMYB8 binds similarly to the promoters of RcPR5/1 and RcP5C51 in vivo and in vitro. Inhibiting RcP5CS1 by virus-induced gene silencing led to decreased drought tolerance through the reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostatic regulation. RcP5CS1-silenced plants showed an increase in ion leakage and reduce of proline content, together with the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) increased, lowered activities of Catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Our study highlights the transcriptional modulator role of RcMYB8 in drought and salinity tolerances, which bridges RcPR5/1 and RcP5CS1 by promoting ROS scavenging. Besides, it is probably applicable to the rose plant engineering for enhancing their abiotic stress tolerances. Graphical Abstract

Trace element zoning is often used to unravel the crystallization history of phenocrysts in magmatic systems, but interpretation requires quantifying the relative importance of equilibrium versus disequilibrium. Published partition coefficients for phosphorous (P) in olivine vary by more than a factor of ten. After considering kinetic effects, a new equilibrium partition coefficient was extrapolated from a re-examination of natural and experimental systems, indicating that P partition coefficients in olivine are significantly over-estimated. These new partitioning constraints allow us to establish a theoretical P Equilibrium Fractionation Array (PEFA) for mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORBs), revealing that most olivines from MORBs have excess P (2–15 times PEFA) and are thus in disequilibrium. Using an independent case study of natural dendritic olivines, we show that such P enrichments can be explained by diffusion-limited incorporation of P during rapid crystal growth. If growth rate can be related to cooling, the rapid growth rates of olivines have implications for magma system dynamics, such as the size of magma bodies or where crystallization occurs within the body.

Mobile emergency generators(MEGs) can accelerate disaster recovery and enhance the resiliency of the distribution system (SD). However, the resilience-oriented planning of MEGs has not been fully investigated. This paper proposes a method to achieve the resilience-oriented optimal plan of different kinds of MEGs via a two-stage stochastic optimization model. In the first stage, DS operators invest in various types of MEGs and allocate them in the second stage according to the line damage situation. A distributionally robust model based on confidence sets is used to reduce the number of scenario samples. The proposed model is transformed into a second-order cone program that commercial solvers can solve after convex relaxation. The case studies of a 33-bus test system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for scenario reduction and optimization of MEGs investment and allocation strategy.

Andesites are refined and “cold” magmas compared to their basaltic parents, yet large volumes of andesites are generated at continental arcs. We show that large andesitic plutons are favored when arc crust attains a thickness of ~60 km while mafic plutons are small and favored when arc crust is thin. Using simple thermal models, we show that large, long-lived and relatively cold partially molten zones, sustained by recharge of hydrous basaltic magmas, are favored at depth when arc crust is thick due to the reduced efficiency of heat loss with increasing crustal thickness. Thin crust and drier magmas favor hotter and thinner partially molten zones. Our study provides an explanation for the apparent paradox that the most voluminous magmas in continental arc settings are cold. The origin of andesites may be linked to the interplay between magmatic differentiation, the availability of water, and the processes that control crustal thickness.

Through virus-based reconnaissances, the attacker may compromise critical power substations and induce power outages. Meanwhile, the power system operator may conduct defensive measures to prevent virus-spreading. In this paper, a graphical evolutionary game model is developed to solve the equilibrium of competitions between virus propagations and countermeasures, which helps to evaluate the cyber-security risk of power systems under long-term virus-based intrusions. In the proposed game model, the virus is supposed to propagate itself in a cyber network connecting cyber nodes belonging to power substations. Each cyber node may play as an attacker or a defender according to its state. A death-birth rule is adopted to model probabilistic strategies and state transfers, which reflects the bounded rationality of the viruses. Then, an evolution dynamic equation is derived to obtain the portion of the infected substations when the equilibrium is reached, and simulation algorithm is also given to estimate the infection probability of each substation under the persistent virus-based intrusion. Assuming a virus may trip all breakers in the infected substation, the cyber-security risk is evaluated to identify system-level vulnerabilities. The IEEE 118-bus system with a layered cyber network is used for case studies. Test results validate the proposed model and provide further insights into the virus-based intrusion.

Abstract Large silicic eruptions result from rapid evacuation of large, upper crustal reservoirs of silicic magmas. These silicic magmas are thought to be replenished by melt extracted from underlying crystal‐rich source mushes, but the timescales and mechanisms of such melt extraction are unclear. Geochemical observations suggest that the replenishing melt is often more primitive than the eruptives and must thus cool and crystallize to generate the highly silicic magmas that eventually lead to large eruptions. Motivated by these observations, we use thermal models to explore the replenishment conditions capable of building an eruptible silicic reservoir to generate a large eruption. Results show that the minimum melt replenishment rate required for a silicic reservoir to start growing increases with the effective thermal diffusivity of the overlying crust and decreases with the depth of the reservoir. For an eruptible reservoir at 6 km depth to grow, the initial replenishment rate needs to be greater than 2 × 10−9 m/s. High replenishment rates are required to provide enough advected heat to counterbalance rapid heat loss and consequent freezing that would prevent the eruptible reservoir from growing. However, these high initial replenishment rates must then subside over time for the eruptible reservoir to cool, crystallize, and evolve to highly silicic melts. Entomopathogenic bacteria Serratia marcescens is widely used as an environmentally friendly biocontrol agent against various pests, including Spodoptera exigua. Understanding the immune defense mechanism of S. exigua through comparative proteomic analysis can identify the key proteins expressed in response to the microbial infection. Here, we employed the as isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) technique to investigate the effects of S. marcescens on the proteomic expression of S. exigua. Based on the molecular functional analysis, the differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were mainly involved in the binding process and catalytic activities. Further bioinformatics analysis revealed important DEPs that played a crucial role in innate immunity of S. exigua with recognition (C-type lectin), melanization (propanol oxidase 3, serine protease, Serine-type carboxypeptidase activity, clip domain serine protease 4), antimicrobial activity (lysozyme, lysozyme-like, gloverin, cecropin B), detoxification (acetyl-CoA C-acetyltransferase, 3-dehydroecdysone 3-alpha-reductase, glucuronosyltransferase, glutathione S-transferase) and others. The Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) results further indicated the significant upregulation of the immune-related genes in Spodoptera exigua following S. marcescens infection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first iTRAQ based study to characterize S. marcescens mediated proteomic changes in S. exigua and identified important immune-related DEPs. The results of this study will provide an essential resource for understanding the host-pathogen interactions and the development of novel microbial biopesticides against various pests.

Effective data interoperability and schedule analysis play a significant role in improving the management of prefabricated buildings. However, there is a lack of efficient strategies and comprehensive approaches for data interoperability and data-based automated schedule analysis. This paper intends to promote prefabricated buildings’ management by solving these two problems via developing an IFC-based framework consisting of three parts. Firstly, this framework proposed a mechanism to establish an IFC-based 4D construction management information model of prefabricated buildings. Furthermore, a non-relational database—graph database—is introduced to twin this model into a task-centered network to realize the interoperation of construction information among different participants. Finally, graph database-based strategies to update data, automatically analyze construction schedules and visualize the 4D construction management information model are described. The proposed framework is validated in a prefabricated engineering case. In this case, an IFC-based and graph database-based 4D construction management information model is established through IFC standard’s extension. The graph database-based analysis of the model automatically recognizes the engineering case’s critical path information, delay analysis information, and schedule network analysis information. It is illustrated that this framework can successfully establish a unified IFC-based information model of prefabricated buildings’ construction management to prompt effective data interoperability. In addition, the application of this IFC-based information model in graph database can automatically analyze the construction schedules to prevent possible delays in advance. In short, the significance of this paper is to innovatively propose an IFC-based and graph data-based information model to solve the difficulties of ineffective data interoperation and unautomated schedule analysis in prefabricated buildings’ construction management. This study can be the digital foundation of further IFC-based digital twin.

Cyber–physical systems (CPSs) are generally considered to be the next generation of engineered systems. However, the actual application of CPSs in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry is still at a low level. The sensing method in the construction process plays a very important role in the establishment of CPSs. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the application potential of computer vision-based sensing methods and provide practical suggestions through a literature review. This paper provides a review of the current application of CPSs in the AEC industry, summarizes the current knowledge gaps, and discusses the problems with the current construction site sensing approach. Considering the unique advantages of the computer vision (CV) method at the construction site, the application of CV for different construction entities was reviewed and summarized to achieve a CV-based construction site sensing approach for construction process CPSs. The potential of CPS can be further stimulated by providing rich information from on-site sensing using CV methods. According to the review, this approach has unique advantages in the specific environment of the construction site. Based on the current knowledge gap identified in the literature review, this paper proposes a novel concept of visual-based construction site sensing method for CPS application, and an architecture for CV-based CPS is proposed as an implementation of this concept. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a CPS architecture using computer vision as the main information acquisition method based on the literature review. This architecture innovatively introduces computer vision as a sensing method of construction sites, and realizes low-cost and non-invasive information acquisition in complex construction scenarios. This method can be used as an important supplement to on-site sensing to further promote the automation and intelligence of the construction process.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) represent the largest group of endogenous compounds and serves as a novel alternative to traditional antibiotics for the treatment of pathogenic microorganisms. Moricin is an important α-helical AMP plays a crucial role in insect humoral defense reactions. The present study was designed to identify and characterize novel AMP moricin (Px-Mor) from diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) and tested its activity against bacterial and fungal infection including the opportunistic human pathogen Aureobasidium pullulans. Molecular cloning of Px-Mor using rapid amplification of cDNA ends revealed a 482 bp full length cDNA with 198 bp coding region. The deduced protein sequence contained 65 amino acids, and the mature peptides contained 42 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 4.393 kDa. Expression analysis revealed that Px-Mor was expressed throughout the life cycle of P. xylostella with the highest level detectable in the fourth instar and prepupa stage. Tissue specific distribution showed that Px-Mor was highly expressed in fat body and hemocyte. In vitro, antimicrobial assays indicated that Px-Mor exhibited a broad antimicrobial spectrum against Gram positive bacteria (GPB), Gram negative bacteria (GNB) and fungi. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that Px-Mor can cause obvious morphological alterations in A. pullulans, which demonstrated its powerful effect on the mycelia growth inhibition. Taken together, these results indicate that Px-Mor plays an important role in the immune responses of P. xylostella and can be further exploited as an antimicrobial agent against various diseases including for the treatment of A. pullulans infection.

This paper presents the possibility of forming a pressed joint between two 1.5 mm thick sheets made of HX340 steel. The joint was formed using an additional deformable steel rivet with a hardness of 400HV1. Different distances of rivet pressing below the initial surface of the upper sheet were chosen: 0, 0.15, 0.30, 0.45 and 0.60 (in mm). For the mentioned rivet-pressing distances, forming tests were performed using an "SKB" die with three die depths: 1.45, 1.60 and 1.75 (in mm). Observations and measurements of the characteristic geometric dimensions of the interlock were made. Furthermore, the strength of the clinch-riveted joints was analysed. Changing the depth of the die by 20%, i.e., from h d = 1.45 mm to h d = 1.75 mm for the same rivet press-in depth ( o f = 0%), resulted in a 12% reduction in the forming-force value. The maximum load capacity of the joint in the shear test decreased by 3.5% for the mentioned joint variant. The greater the rivet press-in depth used in the joint ( o f ), the greater the value of the interlock size ( t u ). Increasing the value of rivet-pressing depth below the initial surface of the upper sheet from 0 mm to 0.6 mm resulted in an increase in the size of the interlock ( t u ) by 136% (for h d = 1.45 mm), by 128% (for h d = 1.60 mm) and by 85% (for h d = 1.75 mm).

Proton tunneling in the hydrogen-bonded imidazole-imidazolium complex ion has been studied theoretically. Ab initio CASSCF/6-311++G(d,p) calculations concerning geometry optimization and vibrational frequencies have been carried out for equilibrium and transition state structures of the system. Two-dimensional double-well model potentials were constructed on the basis of ab initio results and used to analyze the proton dynamics in the hydrogen bond and the influence of the excitation of low-frequency hydrogen-bond vibrations on the proton tunneling splittings. The energy of tunneling-split vibrational sublevels of the high-frequency tunneling mode have been calculated for its ground and first excited vibrational state for the series of excitations of the coupled low-frequency intramolecular hydrogen-bond modes. The promoting and suppressing effect of the low-frequency modes on the proton splittings was shown in the ground and first excited vibrational state of the tunneling mode. The vibrational sublevels form the two separate semicontinuous bands between which the absorption transitions may occur. This mechanism explains the experimentally observed splitting and doublet-component broadening of the high-frequency N-H stretching infrared (IR) absorption band.

In this study we present complementary computational and experimental studies of hydrogen bond interaction in crystalline benzoic acid and its deuterated and partially deuterated derivatives. The experimental part of the presented work includes preparation of partially deuterated samples and measurement of attenuated total reflection (ATR)-FTIR spectra. Analysis of the geometrical parameters and time course of dipole moment of crystalline benzoic acid and its deuterated and partially deuterated derivatives by Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) enabled us to deeply analyze the IR spectra. Presented simulations based on BOMD gave us opportunity to investigate individual motion and its contribution to the IR spectra. The band contours calculated using Fourier transform of autocorrelation function are in quantitative agreement with the experimental spectra. Characterization of single bands was carried out by "normal coordinate analysis". The salient point of our study is a comparison of the spectra of the deuterated and partially deuterated crystalline benzoic acid with that of the nondeuterated one. Furthermore, we have applied the principal component analysis for analysis of the number of components in partially deuterated systems. In this study, we reveal that the arrangements of hydrogen and deuterium atoms in partially deuterated samples are random.
