Zero-valent antimony and antimony oxide were deposited on graphene oxide by the recently introduced peroxide deposition route. The antimony@graphene oxide (GO) anode exhibits a charging capacity of 340 mAh g-1 with excellent stability at a current rate of 250 mA g-1 after 50 cycles of lithiation, which is superior to all other forms of antimony anodes that have been reported thus far. The electrode also exhibits a good rate performance, with a capacity of 230 and 180 mAh g-1 at a rate of 500 and 1000 mA g-1, respectively. We attribute the superior performance of the antimony@GO anodes to our coating protocol, which provides a thin layer of nanometric antimony coating on the graphene oxide, and to a small amount of antimony oxide that is left in the anode material after heat treatment and imparts some flexibility. The efficient charge distribution by the large surface area of reduced GO and the expansion buffering of the elastic graphene sheets also contributed to the superior stability of the anode.

A study was carried out to observe electrical bistablility and large conductance switching in functionalized carbon nanotube (CNT)-conjugated polymer composites at room temperature. In the bistable devices, the active layer retained its high-conducting state until a reverse voltage erased it.

The reaction between methylammonium iodide (MAI (MA = CH 3 NH 3 +) ) and antimony sulfoiodide (SbSI ) in reflux conditions results in the formation of a 2D-layered perovskite phase, methylammonium antimony iodide ( MA 3 Sb 2 I 9 ). X-ray diffraction XRD and UV - Vis spectroscopy confirm that in reflux conditions, the reaction between MAI and SbSI in a 2:7 molar ratio (MR(2:7)) obtains the 2 D -layered MA 3 Sb 2 I 9 lead-free perovskite phase as the main product. The MR(2:7) MAI - SbSI reaction product in a carbon matrix in lateral electrode configuration exhibits a relatively high difference between light and dark current I light - I dark of ~ 55 µA at 1 V applied bias voltage. The better photoresponse for the MR(2:7) MAI - SbSI reaction product in the presented device configuration indicates that the lead-free 2D-layered perovskite structure ( MA 3 Sb 2 I 9 ) found assistance from the carbon materials for improved photogenerated charge carrier harvesting. A study investigates electrical bistability in electrostatic assembly of CdSe nanoparticles by obtaining thin films of the nanoparticles via layer-by-layer electrostatic assembly technique, which provides a nanoscale control to tune the thickness. Devices based on such thin films exhibit electrical bistability along with memory phenomenon, in which the bistability is due to charge confinement in the nanoparticles.

The preparation and characterization of the Ag nano-particle within poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF2) host is presented. The plasmon band transition is monitored with time in the reaction mixture for three sets of experiments by UV-vis spectroscopy. The FTIR spectra shows that the dipolar interaction of the >C[F.sub.2] dipole with the surface charges of Ag nanoparticle stabilizes the nanoparticles in the nanocomposite.

Glycine-assisted polyaniline-NiCo2O4 composite porous powder was synthesized by a simple chemical method. The FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscopy analysis confirmed the presence of the corresponding functional groups. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the porous morphology of NiCo2O4 and a brush-like morphology of PANi-NiCo2O4 composite which helps in enhancing the electrochemical performance of the composite. The X-ray diffraction pattern indicates the spinel crystal phase of NiCo2O4 in the synthesized sample. Cyclic voltammetry and impedance analysis were done to understand the electrochemical performance of the material. The specific capacitance calculated by galvanostatic charge-discharge method was found to be 687.5 F/g for PANi-NiCo2O4, whereas for NiCo2O4 and pure PANi, it was 458.5 F/g and 373.75 F/g respectively. Cyclic stability analysis showed 88% retention of specific capacitance over 1000 cycles for the as-synthesized PANi-NiCo2O4 sample. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Green energy-based power generation is a most rising topic in scientific society. Carbon water interaction-based hydrovoltaic (HV) power generation is a futuristic current research theme to generate power; however, the actual process remains an open question. Here in this work, a novel three-dimensional (3D) tubular HV device is fabricated, and its voltage distribution is analyzed. Under ambient conditions, a single tubular activated carbon hydrovoltaic (TAC) device can generate a voltage of up to 0.9 V and a current of up to 0.7 mA. Moreover, the outstanding power deliver from TAC is nearly 600 μW for 1.2 g of active materials, and it is stable for more than ten days without any external light, wind, or heat. Further voltage improvement is tested with various factors such as light, heat, and humidity. Based on water flow-induced potential, 4 TACs can light an LED for successive ten days under ambient conditions (without any external energy supply). Moreover, the fabricated TAC device shows excellent self-life after one year of the experiment. Overcoming the two-dimensional (2D) HV devices, this self-charging 3D tubular high-power configuration is a low-cost HV device based on activated carbon and has advantages for practical applications. Nano-crystal embedded PbO-P2O5 glass has been prepared and characterized by XRD and TEM measurements. The ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measured within the temperature range 80--300 K show significant structure and interesting feature with the presence of nano-crystalline region. The glass samples were prepared by melt-quench method and nano-crystals of different sizes were produced by heat treatment of the glasses for different durations of heating. All the processes were carried out at or above glass transition temperature. A theoretical model that takes account of the effects of thermally activated relaxation, anharmonicity as well as microscopic elastic inhomogeneities arising out of fluctuations has been successfully applied to interpret the variation of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation data. An interesting outcome of this application has been to propose a method for the determination of the size of nano-crystals from the ultrasonic attenuation data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The contemporary work focuses on embossing the emissive nature of lead halide perovskite materials, specifically Cs 4 PbBr 6 microcrystal powder prepared via single step bulk recrystallization method followed by the solvent evaporation route from gram to kilogram scale. The X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the formation of phase pure Cs 4 PbBr 6 with a goodness of fit value of 1.51 calculated from Rietveld refinement and the fluorophore powder manifesting an intrinsic band gap of 3.76 eV. The experimental yield of 99.4% indicates the absence of any unreacted precursors. The fabricated flexible, free-standing Cs 4 PbBr 6 @PMMA film encompassed better moisture stability without undergoing phase transitions for 400 days. The temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra denote that 51% of the intensity was retained when cooled back to room temperature after heating it till 180 °C. Moisture studies at two extreme humidity conditions also reveal the appreciable stability of the fluorophore film against moisture. The stability studies with respect to UV irradiation substantiate that the film retained its stability even after exposing it continuously to UV radiation for seven days. The outstanding optical properties of these microcrystals, owing to the higher exciton binding energy, make them a promising candidate as excellent fluorophores for color conversion, backlight, and light-emitting applications.
