1. Evaluation of Self-Confidence in Women with Chronic Disease

Abstract

Background: Self-confidence, which is an important emotional need in women, affects women's quality of life. This research was conducted to evaluate the self-confidence of women with chronic diseases. Methods: This study was conducted at the internal medicine clinic of Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital in Turkey between August 2019 and June 2020. The sample consisted of 339 female patients with chronic diseases who agreed to participate in this study. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using information form and the Women’s Self-Confidence Scale. Results: The mean total score of the participants was 136.40 ± 24.92. Scores on the self-confidence scale significantly differed in accordance with the women’s age, body mass index, educational status, type of family, place of residence, number of children, self-care, history of smoking, allocation of time-to-herself, activity, perceived health status, presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other chronic diseases, and information received about the disease (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Women with chronic diseases had a moderate level of self-esteem. Self-confidence is a person’s belief that they will perform a particular activity successfully and feel valued. People with high self-confidence are likely to be compatible with themselves through accumulating positive thoughts and feelings about themselves. Therefore, increasing the self-confidence of women with chronic diseases is important.

Abstract

Objective:Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) causes stress, anxiety, depression and sleep disturbance as well as common physical health problems. This study aimed to determine the effect of stress perceived by adults due to the COVID-19 pandemic on their sleep quality.Materials and Methods:Using the snowball sampling method for sample selection, 1.909 individuals aged 18-65 years living in Turkey who agreed to participate in the research, were knowledgeable about the use of social media and were not diagnosed with any psychiatric disorders were included in this descriptive study. Data collection forms were uploaded online and published via Google Forms. The survey was conducted between 30 April and 10 May 2020. Sociodemographic information form, Perceived Stress scale (PSS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality index (PSQI) were used as data collection tools.Results:The participants scored 15.58±5.16 points in the perceived insufficient Self-Efficacy subscale, 15.20±5.41 in the perceived stress/ distress subscale and 30.78±8.85 in the total PSS. 3. Assessment of Nursing Students’ Attitudes Towards Recording and Protecting Patients’ Personal Health Data: A Descriptive Study

Abstract

Introduction. Since health information is considered as sensitive personal data and requires more careful protection, healthcare professionals need to be careful about this issue. The objective of this research was to determine nursing students’ attitudes towards recording and protecting patients’ personal health data. Materials and Methods. The population of this descriptive research consisted of 450 students who studied at the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Erzincan Binali Yildirim University. Sample selection was not used, and the research was completed with 374 students who were continuing education and who were accepted to participate in the research. Descriptive Information template and Attitude Scale for Recording and Protecting Personal Health Data for nursing students were used as data-collection instruments. The numbers, percentage, mean, standard deviation, non-parametric tests (the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test) were used in data analysis. Results. Among our research participants, 68.4% of the students were females; 28.1% of the students were freshmen; 69% of the students were graduates of Anatolian high schools. Approximately 72.5% and 52.9% of the participants stated that they were aware of the concept of “personal data” and “personal health data” , respectively. The mean score of nursing students on the Attitude Scale for Recording and Protecting Personal Health Data was 3.97±0.71. The means scores obtained from subscales were as follows: 3.91±0.72 for Personal Health Data Information, 4.15±0.80 for Legal Information, 4.05±0.94 for Legal Data Sharing, 3.90±0.80 for Personal Health Data Sharing, and 3.77±0.33 for Recording of Personal Health Data, respectively. A statistically significant difference was found between the total scale and subscale scores of the students regarding their academic level. Conclusions. Students were found to have a positive attitude towards recording and protecting personal data. Increasing the responsibilities and raising awareness of the students for the protection of personal health data during their study is suggested to be important.

4. Evaluation of Quality of Life and Self-Care Among Individuals with Heart Failure

Abstract

The objective of the research was to evaluate quality of life and self-care agency among individuals with heart failure. Materials and Methods. The study sample consisted of 61 patients who were diagnosed with heart failure that occurred at least six months before we started our research, had no communication problems, were over 18 years old and were selected by random sampling method. The data were collected by the researcher using a face-to-face interview technique, a descriptive information form, the Short Form-36 Quality of Life Scale, and the Self-Care Agency Scale. In the analysis of the data, numbers, percentiles, means, the Kruskal-Wallis test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and the Pearson correlation coefficient were used. Results. The patients’ average self-care agency score was 71.75 ± 33.66. The patients received the highest score on the subscale of bodily pain (46.76 ± 31.02) and the lowest score on the subscale of role limitations due to physical health problems (19.26 ± 32.40). The patients’ age and disease duration were found to affect their self-care. Some quality-of-life subscales were affected by the educational, occupational and socioeconomic status, age, disease duration. Conclusions. Patients’ quality of life was found to be low, and the level of self-care agency was found to be moderate. Patients’ quality of life can be improved by increasing the frequency of self-care trainings given to patients.

11. Kronik Obstrüktif Akciğer Hastalığı (KOAH) ve Derin Ven Trombozu (DVT) Tanılı Olgunun Yaşam Modeline Göre Hemşirelik Bakımı

Abstract

Kronik obstrüktif akciğer hastalığı (KOAH); tam olarak geri dönüşümlü olmayan hava akımı kısıtlanması ile karakterize, önlenebilir ve tedavi edilebilir bir hastalık durumudur. Günümüzde tüm dünyada 3. ölüm nedeni haline gelen KOAH, tüm ölümlerin de %5.5’inden sorumludur. Türkiye’de solunum sistemi hastalıkları en sık görülen 3. ölüm nedenidir ve bu ölümlerin de %61.5’i KOAH nedeniyledir. KOAH’da ek hastalıklar yaygındır ve bunların etkin bir şekilde saptanması ve tedavisi hastaların yaşam kaliteleri ve prognozları açısından büyük önem taşır. Hastanın hastalığı ve tedavisi konusunda eğitilmesi ve tedaviye ortak edilmesi tedaviye uyumu arttırmaktadır. Derin Ven Trombozu (DVT) sık görülen, toplum sağlığını tehdit eden bir sorundur. Solunumsal hastalıklarda DVT görülme oranı %8-25 olarak hesaplanmasına rağmen, KOAH hastalarında yapılan postmortem çalışmalarda Pulmoner Emboli (PE) görülme sıklığı %28-51 olarak saptanmıştır. Derin ven trombozu tedavisinin amacı PE ve pulmoner hipertansiyon, periferik venöz hastalıklar, Venöz Trombo Embolizm (VTE) nüksü ve posttrombotik sendrom gibi kronik komplikasyonlarn oluşmasını önlemektir. KOAH ve DVT'si olan hastanın hastanedeki yatışı döneminde hemşirelik bakımı oldukça önemlidir. Olgunun kapsamlı bir fizik muayenesi, laboratuvar ve izlem bulgularının değerlendirilmesi ile elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda hemşirelik tanıları belirlendi. Bu olguda yaşam modeline göre hemşirelik sürecinin aşamaları doğrultusunda hemşirelik bakımı uygulandı ve girişimlerin sonuçları değerlendirildi. Hemşirelik girişimlerinin önemi vurgulandı.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of marital adjustment on the quality of sex life in married women.Method: As a descriptive study, the universe of the present study consists of married women consulting to an education and research hospital and primary care clinics in a province while the sample is composed of 365 voluntary married women that are open to dialogue. In collecting the data, “Information form” containing socio-demographic background, “Marriage Adjustment form (MAF) and sexual life quality scale for woman (SFQSW) were used. Abstract

Objective: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) causes stress, anxiety, depression and sleep disturbance as well as common physical health problems. This study aimed to determine the effect of stress perceived by adults due to the COVID-19 pandemic on their sleep quality. Materials and Methods: Using the snowball sampling method for sample selection, 1.909 individuals aged 18-65 years living in Turkey who agreed to participate in the research, were knowledgeable about the use of social media and were not diagnosed with any psychiatric disorders were included in this descriptive study. Data collection forms were uploaded online and published via Google Forms. The survey was conducted between 30 April and 10 May 2020. Sociodemographic information form, Perceived Stress scale (PSS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality index (PSQI) were used as data collection tools. Results: The participants scored 15.58±5.16 points in the perceived insufficient Self-Efficacy subscale, 15.20±5.41 in the perceived stress/distress subscale and 30.78±8.85 in the total PSS. The PSQI score was 7.78±3.46, and 71.6% of the participants had poor sleep quality. A significant, positive and weak relationship was found between the total scores on PSQI and PSS (p<0.05). Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that adults had higher perceived stress and poor sleep quality and their sleep quality decreases as the perceived stress increases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally, and nurses have a crucial role in informing cardiovascular disease patients about their diseases. The aim of the present study was to identify the effect of activities of daily living on the self-care agency of patients in a cardiovascular surgery clinic. This descriptive study was conducted between June 2014 and January 2015 with 180 patients hospitalized in the cardiovascular surgery clinic of a university hospital in the province of Erzincan in the Eastern region of Turkey. The data of the study were gathered using a descriptive form designed by the authors, Katz index of activities of daily living scale (ADLS), Lawton-Brody instrumental activities of daily living scale (IADLS), and self-care agency scale (SCAS). The data were processed using computer software and assessed using percentages, means, t test for independent groups, one-way analysis of variance, and correlation analysis tests. It was found that 50.6% of the patients were ≥65 years, 66.1% were male, 46.1% perceived their health status as moderate, and 35.6% had previously had heart attacks. The patients' mean ADLS score was 16.39 ± 2.30, their mean IADLS score was 19.23 ± 4.16, and their mean SCAS score was 92.11 ± 18.81. The patients' education level and perceived health were found to affect their mean SCAS scores. In addition, there was a positive correlation between the patients' ADLS and IADLS scores and their SCAS score. It was also noted that patients were more independent on the ADL and IADL, and that their self-care agency was higher.

Abstract

Amaç: Araştırma, akupres uygulamasının Kronik Obstrüktif Akciğer Hastalığı olan bireylerin yorgunluk düzeyine etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapıldı.Materyal ve Metot: Kasım 2015-Mayıs 2017 tarihleri arasında Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Göğüs Hastalıkları Kliniğinde, girişim ve kontrol grubu kullanılarak ön test-son test ve tekrarlı ölçümler yapılarak yarı deneysel olarak yapıldı. Araştırma evrenini, Ağustos 2016-Ocak 2017 tarihleri arasında belirtilen klinikte KOAH tanısı ile kabul edilen hastalar oluşturdu. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise belirlenen tarihler arasında belirtilen klinikte yatan, araştırma kriterlerine uyan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden KOAH' lı hastalardan 40 hasta girişim, 40 hasta kontrol grubunda olmak üzere toplam 80 hasta oluşturdu. Verilerin toplanmasında, hastaların sosyodemografik özelliklerini içeren hasta tanıtım formu, KOAH ve Astım Yorgunluk Ölçeği ve Yorgunluk Şiddeti Ölçeği kullanıldı. Girişim grubundaki hastalara haftada 5 gün toplam 5 seans manuel olarak akupres uygulandı. Kontrol grubundaki hastalara klinik tedavi dışında herhangi bir uygulama yapılmadı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzdelik, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, Mann Whitney U, Will Coxon ve Fridman testi kullanıldı.Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamına alınan hastalara ait kontrol değişkenleri ile gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark olmadığı ve her iki grubun demografik özellikler bakımından birbirine benzer olduğu saptandı (p>0.05). Girişim ve kontrol grubunun yorgunluk puan ortalamalarının gruplar arası değerlendirilmesinde; akupres uygulaması yapılan girişim grubunda yer alan hastaların kontrol grubundaki hastalara göre yorgunluk puan ortalamalarının daha düşük olduğu bulundu. Girişim ve kontrol grubunun yorgunluk puan ortalamalarının grup içi değerlendirilmesinde ise; girişim grubunun yorgunluk puan ortalamalarının kontrol grubuna göre daha düşük olduğu saptandı. Girişim ve kontrol grubundaki hastaların VAS yorgunluk puan ortalamalarının gruplar arası ve grup içi değerlendirilmesinde; tüm VAS ölçümlerinde girişim grubunda yer alan hastaların VAS yorgunluk puan ortalamaları kontrol grubunda yer alan hastalara göre daha düşük bulundu. Sonuç: Akupres uygulamasının Kronik Obstrüktif Akciğer Hastalığı olan bireylerde yorgunluğu azaltmada etkili olduğu tespit edildi. Tamamlayıcı ve alternatif tedavi yöntemlerden birisi olan akupresin, yorgunluğu azaltmada hemşirelik girişimi olarak kullanılabileceği sonucuna varıldı.Anahtar Kelimeler: Akupres, hemşirelik, KOAH, yorgunluk, Aim: The study was conducted to reveal the effect of acupressure on fatigue in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Materials and Method: This semi-experimental study was conducted by performing pretest-posttest and repeated measurements using an interventional and a control group at the Pulmonary Diseases Clinic of Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Training and Research Hospital between November 2015 and May 2017. The study population consisted of patients who were admitted to the said clinic with a diagnosis of COPD between August 2016 and January 2017. The study sample consisted of a total of 80 patients with COPD, 40 in the interventional group and 40 in the control group, who were hospitalized at the said clinic between the above-mentioned dates, met the study criteria, and agreed to take part in the study. The data were collected using a patient description form consisting of the socio-demographic characteristics of the patients, the COPD and Asthma Fatigue Scale and the Fatigue Severity Scale. The patients in the interventional group were administered manual acupressure 5 days a week in a total of 5 sessions. The patients in the control group were not administered any procedures other than their clinical treatments. The data were analyzed using percentages, arithmetic means, standard deviations and the Mann Whitney U, Will Coxon and Fridman tests. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the groups with respect to the control variables of the patients included in the study and both groups were similar to each other in terms of their demographic characteristics (p>0.05). In the intergroup assessment of the interventional and control groups with respect to their mean fatigue scores, the mean fatigue score of the patients in the interventional group that underwent acupressure was found to be lower than that of the control group. In the in-group assessment of the mean fatigue scores of the interventional group and control group, the mean fatigue score of the interventional group was found to be lower than that of the control group. In the inter- and in-group assessments of the mean VAS fatigue scores of the patients in the interventional and control groups, the mean VAS fatigue score of the patients in the interventional group was found to be lower than that of the patients in the control group in all VAS measurements.Conclusion: The acupressure procedure was found effective in reducing fatigue in subjects with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Abstract

Amaç. Araştırma, tip 2 diyabet hastalarının problem alanlarını ve etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır.Materyal ve Metot. Araştırmanın evrenini Ağustos-Ekim 2011 tarihleri arasında, Adıyaman Devlet Hastanesi Endokrinoloji Polikliniğine başvuran, en az bir yıl önce tanı almış hastalar oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın örneklemini basit rastgele örneklem yöntemiyle seçilen 188 hasta oluşturmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında hastaların sosyo-demografik özelliklerini içeren anket formu ve diyabette problem alanları ölçeği (DPAÖ) kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde, t testi, anova, ortalama ve standart sapma kullanılmıştır.Bulgular. Araştırma kapsamına alınan hastaların diyabette ciddi problem yaşadıkları ve diyabette problem alanları ölçek puan ortalamasının 68,17±16,16 olduğu saptanmıştır. Hastaların beden kitle indeksleri ile diyabette problem alanları ölçeği puan ortalamaları arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur(p0.05).Sonuç. Patients who apply to Adıyaman state hospital endocrinology policlinic between august-october 2011, took diagnosis minimum one year ago create research?s universe. 188 patients involved in this research were chosen by the way of simple sample method ramdomly create research?s sample. When collecting data, a form that includes patients? socio-demographic features and diabetes problem scale were used. T- test, anova, mean and standart deviation were used when evaluating data.Results. It was established that the patients included in the study experienced a serious diabetes problems and the problem areas in diabetes scale score mean was found 68.17_+ 16.16. According to patients? body mass index scale, a statistically significant difference was found among problem areas scale score mean in diabetes.(p0,05).Conclusion.
