Hexagonal ferrites with the formula SrxBa(1−x)Fe12O19 (x = 0; 0.3; 0.5; 0.7; and 1) were prepared using the citrate method. The main feature of this synthesis is a relatively low calcination temperature of 700 °C. An X-ray diffraction study revealed a single-phase material. According to SEM, the particles were 50−70 nm in diameter. The Curie temperature of the samples that were determined using the DSC method varied in a very narrow range of 455−459 °C. Analysis of the magnetic hysteresis loops obtained at 300 K and 50 K indicated all samples as magnetically hard materials in a single-domain state. The maximal magnetic characteristics encompass strontium hexaferrite. The terahertz spectra of complex dielectric permittivity and the spectra of infrared reflectivity were measured at room temperature in the range of 6–7000 cm−1. The obtained broad-band spectra of the real and imaginary parts of permittivity reveal significant changes associated with structural distortions of the (Sr,Ba)O12 anti-cuboctahedron caused by the substitution of Ba2+ with Sr2+ in the same crystallographic positions. Host–guest assemblies open up opportunities for developing novel functional CLUSPOM multicomponent systems based on transition metal clusters (CLUS), polyoxometalates (POMs) and macrocyclic organic ligands. In water–ethanol solution γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) interacts with halide metal clusters [M6Cl14]2– (M = Mo, W) to form sandwich-type structures. The supramolecular association between the clusters and CDs, however, remains weak in solution, and the interactions are not strong enough to prevent the hydrolysis of the inorganic guest. Although analysis of the resulting crystal structures reveals inclusion complexation, 1H NMR experiments in solution show no specific affinity between the two components. The luminescent properties of the host–guest compounds in comparison with the initial cluster complexes are also studied to evaluate the influence of CD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The presence of DMSO provides a unique ability to stabilize silver toroidal complexes in the direct reaction between AgStBu and AgNO3 at 80 °C. Slow cooling results in large crystals of [NO3@Ag19.2(StBu)10(DMSO)5.2(NO3)8.2]·3DMSO (1), which were isolated and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. The crystal structure contains both {Ag20(StBu)10} and {Ag19(StBu)10} clusters. The solution of these material in DMSO was studied with HPLC techniques, which demonstrated the presence of both complexes in solution. The use of [SiW12O40]4– as counter anion gives crystals of a double complex salt [Ag17.8(NO3)3.8(StBu)10][SiW12O40]·30DMSO (2) under the same conditions. Self-assembly of (Bu4N)4[β-Mo8O26], AgNO3, and 2-bis[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imino]acenaphthene (dpp-bian) in DMF solution resulted in the (Bu4N)2[β-{Ag(dpp-bian)}2Mo8O26] (1) complex. The complex was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), diffuse reflectance (DR), infrared spectroscopy (IR), and elemental analysis. Comprehensive SCXRD studies of the crystal structure show the presence of Ag+ in an uncommon coordination environment without a clear preference for Ag-N over Ag-O bonding. Quantum chemical calculations were performed to qualify the nature of the Ag-N/Ag-O interactions and to assign the electronic transitions observed in the UV–Vis absorption spectra. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) and biochemical parameters cannot specify liver pathologies in dogs with congenital portosystemic shunts (CPSS) that are easily determined by invasive histopathology. This study aims to assess the possibility of using circulating serum canine familiaris (cfa) microRNAs (miRNAs) as novel non-invasive serum-based fingerprints for liver injuries associated with various morphologies of extrahepatic and intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (EHPSS and IHPSS). Data were obtained from 12 healthy dogs and 84 dogs confirmed to have EHPSS (splenocaval, splenophrenic, splenoazygos, right gastrocaval (RGC), right gastrocaval with caudal loop (RGC-CL)) and IHPSS (right divisional and left divisional) using CTA. Hepatic pathologies were determined by histopathology. Serum expression of miRNAs was assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Based on the nature of liver injuries in each shunt type, cfa-miR-122 was significantly upregulated in all CPSS groups. Meanwhile, serums cfa-miR-34a and 21 were not significantly expressed in splenophrenic or splenoazygos groups, but they were extensively upregulated in splenocaval, RGC, RGC-CL groups and less frequently in right or left divisional groups. Also, serum cfa-miR126 was significantly upregulated in both IHPSS groups but less significantly expressed in RGC, RGC-CL, and splenocaval groups. Overall, estimated cfa-miRNAs could serve as novel biomarkers to mirror the histopathological and molecular events within the liver in each shunt type. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We resolve the real-time coherent rotational motion of isolated water molecules encapsulated in fullerene-C60 cages by time-domain terahertz (THz) spectroscopy. We employ single-cycle THz pulses to excite the low-frequency rotational motion of water and measure the subsequent coherent emission of electromagnetic waves by water molecules. At temperatures below ~ 100 K, C60 lattice vibrational damping is mitigated and the quantum dynamics of confined water are resolved with a markedly long rotational coherence, extended beyond 10 ps. The observed rotational transitions agree well with low-frequency rotational dynamics of single water molecules in the gas phase. However, some additional spectral features with their major contribution at ~2.26 THz are also observed which may indicate interaction between water rotation and the C60 lattice phonons. We also resolve the real-time change of the emission pattern of water after a sudden cooling to 4 K, signifying the conversion of ortho-water to para-water over the course of 10s hours. The observed long coherent rotational dynamics of isolated water molecules confined in C60 makes this system an attractive candidate for future quantum technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Irradiation of the Keggin-type [PW 11 O 39 {Ru(NO)}] 4- ( Ru-NO ) polyoxometalate in CH 3 CN results in rapid NO ligand elimination with the formation of [PW 11 O 39 {Ru III (CH 3 CN)}] 4- ( Ru-CH 3 CN ). This complex offers an easy entry into the Ru-based chemistry of the {PW 11 Ru} complex. Attempts to substitute N 3 - for CH 3 excess lead a variety of products: (i) [PW 3 excess lead a variety of products: (i) [PW 11 O 39 {Ru III (N 3 )}] 4- ( Ru-N 3 ); (ii) [PW 11 O 39 {Ru III (N 4 HC-CH 3 )}] 4- ) as a click-reaction product; and (iii) [PW Ru-Tz ) as a click-reaction product; and (iii) [PW 11 O 39 {Ru II (N 2 )}] 5- ( Ru-N 2 ). UV-VIS, CV, and HR-ESI-MS techniques were used for the reaction monitoring and characterization of the products.
