Graph and network visualization supports exploration, analysis and communication of relational data arising in many domains: from biological and social networks, to transportation and powergrid systems. With the arrival of AI-based question-answering tools, issues of trustworthiness and explainability of generated answers motivate a greater role for visualization. In the context of graphs, we see the need for visualizations that can convince a critical audience that an assertion about the graph under analysis is valid. The requirements for such representations that convey precisely one specific graph property are quite different from standard network visualization criteria which optimize general aesthetics and readability. In this paper, we aim to provide a comprehensive introduction to visual proofs of graph properties and a foundation for further research in the area. We present a framework that defines what it means to visually prove a graph property. In the process, we introduce the notion of a visual certificate, that is, a specialized faithful graph visualization that leverages the viewer's perception, in particular, pre-attentive processing (e.g. via pop-out effects), to verify a given assertion about the represented graph. We also discuss the relationships between visual complexity, cognitive load and complexity theory, and propose a classification based on visual proof complexity. Finally, we provide examples of visual certificates for problems in different visual proof complexity classes., Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 32nd International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2024)

- Abstract
Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2019 data revealed that Grade 8 science teachers in several Asian countries (Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, and South Korea) reported lower job satisfaction levels than the international average. For example, while Japanese Grade 8 students ranked among the highest in science achievement on the TIMSS 2019, their science teachers reported the lowest job satisfaction composite scale score compared to the other 63 participating countries. Using teacher questionnaire data from TIMSS 2019, we utilized correlation analysis and multiple linear regression to uncover the answers to this research question: Which factors contribute to Japanese Grade 8 science teachers' job satisfaction? The results from the analysis indicate that working in a safe and orderly school environment was the strongest predictor of Japanese Grade 8 science teacher job satisfaction. The number of working hours, amount of perceived pressure exerted by their students' parents, participation in professional development focused on science curriculum, and adopting a constructivist orientation to science teaching were the other significant factors that predicted job satisfaction. Findings from this study have implications for Japanese educational policy stakeholders, school administrators, mentor teachers, science department leadership, and those invested in science teachers' professional development.

Abstract Background Aboriginal women are frequently called upon to support their families and other community members. At times, such supporting roles can be burdensome for these women. Many Aboriginal women live with chronic conditions. We explored the ways in which the women’s caring roles impacted on how they maintained their own health. Methods The aim of this manuscript is to explore the psychosocial factors associated with the management of health and chronic disease in Aboriginal women. An interpretive phenomenological approach was used for the analysis of 72 in-depth semi-structured interviews. These interviews were conducted in four community controlled Aboriginal health services, in urban, rural and remote settings, across two states and a territory in Australia. Results Women living with chronic disease experience multiple challenges while caring for family, such as intergenerational trauma, mental health issues relating to addiction, domestic and family violence and incarceration. When these women become ill, they also have to take care of themselves. These women provided informal and unfunded care in response to a range of complex family and community problems. This continuous caring for family affected the women’s ability to maintain their health and manage their own chronic conditions. Conclusion The caring roles and responsibilities Aboriginal women have in their community impact on their health. Aboriginal women provide much needed refuge and support to family and the wider community. Underfunded and over-burdened formal support services are not meeting the needs of many Aboriginal women. Improved culturally secure resources and social services are required within communities to support Aboriginal women to successfully manage their own health.

Computer Science - Data Structures and Algorithms - Abstract
Knowing which strings in a massive text are significant -- that is, which strings are common and distinct from other strings -- is valuable for several applications, including text compression and tokenization. Frequency in itself is not helpful for significance, because the commonest strings are the shortest strings. A compelling alternative is net frequency, which has the property that strings with positive net frequency are of maximal length. However, net frequency remains relatively unexplored, and there is no prior art showing how to compute it efficiently. We first introduce a characteristic of net frequency that simplifies the original definition. With this, we study strings with positive net frequency in Fibonacci words. We then use our characteristic and solve two key problems related to net frequency. First, \textsc{single-nf}, how to compute the net frequency of a given string of length $m$, in an input text of length $n$ over an alphabet size $\sigma$. Second, \textsc{all-nf}, given length-$n$ input text, how to report every string of positive net frequency. Our methods leverage suffix arrays, components of the Burrows-Wheeler transform, and solution to the coloured range listing problem. We show that, for both problems, our data structure has $O(n)$ construction cost: with this structure, we solve \textsc{single-nf} in $O(m + \sigma)$ time and \textsc{all-nf} in $O(n)$ time. Experimentally, we find our method to be around 100 times faster than reasonable baselines for \textsc{single-nf}. For \textsc{all-nf}, our results show that, even with prior knowledge of the set of strings with positive net frequency, simply confirming that their net frequency is positive takes longer than with our purpose-designed method., Comment: Full version of a paper to be published at the 35th Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM 2024)

IntroductionHypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) results from pathogenic variants in sarcomeric protein genes that increase myocyte energy demand and lead to cardiac hypertrophy. However, it is unknown whether a common metabolic trait underlies cardiac phenotype at the early disease stage. To address this question and define cardiac biochemical pathology in early-stage HCM, we studied two HCM mouse models that express pathogenic variants in cardiac troponin T (Tnt2) or myosin heavy chain (Myh6) genes, and have marked differences in cardiac imaging phenotype, mitochondrial function at early disease stage.MethodsWe used a combination of echocardiography, transcriptomics, mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolomics (GC-TOF, HILIC, CSH-QTOF), and computational modeling (CardioNet) to examine cardiac structural and metabolic remodeling at early disease stage (5 weeks of age) in R92W-TnT+/- and R403Q-MyHC+/- mutant mice. Data from mutants was compared with respective littermate controls (WT).ResultsAllele-specific differences in cardiac phenotype, gene expression and metabolites were observed at early disease stage. LV diastolic dysfunction was prominent in TnT mutants. Differentially-expressed genes in TnT mutant hearts were predominantly enriched in the Krebs cycle, respiratory electron transport, and branched-chain amino acid metabolism, whereas MyHC mutants were enriched in mitochondrial biogenesis, calcium homeostasis, and liver-X-receptor signaling. Both mutant hearts demonstrated significant alterations in levels of purine nucleosides, trisaccharides, dicarboxylic acids, acylcarnitines, phosphatidylethanolamines, phosphatidylinositols, ceramides and triglycerides; 40.4 % of lipids and 24.7 % of metabolites were significantly different in TnT mutants, whereas 10.4 % of lipids and 5.8 % of metabolites were significantly different in MyHC mutants. Both mutant hearts had a lower abundance of unsaturated long-chain acyl-carnitines (18:1, 18:2, 20:1), but only TnT mutants showed enrichment of FA18:0 in ceramide and cardiolipin species. CardioNet predicted impaired energy substrate metabolism and greater phospholipid remodeling in TnT mutants than in MyHC mutants.ConclusionsOur systems biology approach revealed marked differences in metabolic remodeling in R92W-TnT and R403Q-MyHC mutant hearts, with TnT mutants showing greater derangements than MyHC mutants, at early disease stage. Changes in cardiolipin composition in TnT mutants could contribute to impairment of energy metabolism and diastolic dysfunction observed in this study, and predispose to energetic stress, ventricular arrhythmias under high workloads such as exercise.

Computer Science - Computational Geometry - Abstract
Celtic knots are an ancient art form often attributed to Celtic cultures, used to decorate monuments and manuscripts, and to symbolise eternity and interconnectedness. This paper describes the framework CelticGraph to draw graphs as Celtic knots and links. The drawing process raises interesting combinatorial concepts in the theory of circuits in planar graphs. Further, CelticGraph uses a novel algorithm to represent edges as B\'ezier curves, aiming to show each link as a smooth curve with limited curvature., Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 31st International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2023)

Graded modal logics generalise standard modal logics via families of modalities indexed by an algebraic structure whose operations mediate between the different modalities. The graded "of-course" modality $!_r$ captures how many times a proposition is used and has an analogous interpretation to the of-course modality from linear logic; the of-course modality from linear logic can be modelled by a linear exponential comonad and graded of-course can be modelled by a graded linear exponential comonad. Benton showed in his seminal paper on Linear/Non-Linear logic that the of-course modality can be split into two modalities connecting intuitionistic logic with linear logic, forming a symmetric monoidal adjunction. Later, Fujii et al. demonstrated that every graded comonad can be decomposed into an adjunction and a `strict action'. We give a similar result to Benton, leveraging Fujii et al.'s decomposition, showing that graded modalities can be split into two modalities connecting a graded logic with a graded linear logic. We propose a sequent calculus, its proof theory and categorical model, and a natural deduction system which we show is isomorphic to the sequent calculus system. Interestingly, our system can also be understood as Linear/Non-Linear logic composed with an action that adds the grading, further illuminating the shared principles between linear logic and a class of graded modal logics., Comment: Published in 33rd EACSL Annual Conference on Computer Science Logic (CSL 2025)

Objective: To quantify the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) testing in relation to sociodemographic, behavioural, and health related factors, and patterns in sexual health service (SHS) use and non-use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (hereafter Aboriginal) youth. Methods: The analyses included N=198 sexually active 16-24-year-olds from Central Australia, Western Australia, and New South Wales participating in the Next Generation Youth Wellbeing Study. Modified Poisson regression estimated age-sex-adjusted prevalence ratios (PRs) for ever testing for STIs. Results: Approximately 55% of the participants ever tested for STIs. Over 44% of the participants ever accessed SHS; perceived irrelevance (50%) and embarrassment (15%) were the main reasons for not accessing SHS. STI testing was higher among: 21–24-year-olds (68.75% vs 37.04% among 16–17-year-olds, PR: 1.82; confidence interval 1.23–2.67); those with high/very-high psychological distress (63.39% vs 44.55% among low/moderate group, 1.50;1.16–1.94); and those who lived in ≥3 houses in the past five years (65.43% vs 48.11% among those who lived in 1–2 houses, 1.33;1.04–1.70). Conclusions: STI testing should be offered to sexually active Aboriginal youth at every opportunity. Implications for public health: Sexual health messages should further promote the benefit of regular STI testing and where to access free SHS among Aboriginal youth.

Computer Science - Logic in Computer Science - Abstract
We propose two new dependent type systems. The first, is a dependent graded/linear type system where a graded dependent type system is connected via modal operators to a linear type system in the style of Linear/Non-linear logic. We then generalize this system to support many graded systems connected by many modal operators through the introduction of modes from Adjoint Logic. Finally, we prove several meta-theoretic properties of these two systems including graded substitution.

- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to use the recreation specialization construct to examine the diversity of mountain bike riders in the US to meet their needs better, and to help strengthen the sport and the outdoor economy. At one end of the specialization continuum are Completely High Specialists, and at the other end are Completely Low Specialists. As recreationists gain skill and experience, make an activity central to their lifestyle, and invest more in equipment, they can progress in specialization. Little if any research used the construct to study the larger noncompetitive and competitive mountain biker population. The authors analyzed a nationwide mountain bike data set collected in 2018 using snowball sampling. There were 13,623 mountain bikers across the US who provided usable online surveys. Specific recommendations are provided to help mountain bikers progress in specialization. Theoretical and methodological implications are also presented.

In this paper, we design sub-linear space streaming algorithms for estimating three fundamental parameters -- maximum independent set, minimum dominating set and maximum matching -- on sparse graph classes, i.e., graphs which satisfy $m=O(n)$ where $m,n$ is the number of edges, vertices respectively. Each of the three graph parameters we consider can have size $\Omega(n)$ even on sparse graph classes, and hence for sublinear-space algorithms we are restricted to parameter estimation instead of attempting to find a solution.

Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable bone marrow (BM)-based cancer involving clonal plasma cells. Most patients show elevated levels of serum monoclonal protein (sMP) and kappa or lambda serum free light chains (sFLCs) at diagnosis. However, around 1–2% of patients, termed nonsecretory, do not produce these biomarkers. As the disease progresses, more patients may become unevaluable using conventional markers, requiring invasive and expensive procedures like BM biopsies and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) scans for assessment and highlighting the need for alternative methods to monitor disease progression. Case Presentation: We present a case report of an MM patient who developed nonsecretory disease during his second line of treatment when he complained of new rib pain; progressive disease was then confirmed on a PET-CT scan. The patient showed an increase in his serum B-cell maturation antigen (sBCMA) levels whereas his conventional myeloma markers did not detect disease activity (sMP remained undetectable and involved sFLC level was normal). After starting a new treatment regimen, his rib pain disappeared, PET-CT scan improved, and sBCMA levels decreased. Upon relapse, he developed increased rib pain with a rising sBCMA level; his conventional myeloma markers did not detect disease activity. After changing to a new regimen, his rib pain improved, and this was accompanied by a decrease in his sBCMA levels. Conclusion: Thus, this case exemplifies the potential for sBCMA to provide a non-invasive method for monitoring MM patients who develop nonsecretory disease.

Shape-based metrics measure how faithfully a drawing D represents the structure of a graph G, using the proximity graph S of D. While some limited graph classes admit proximity drawings (i.e., optimally shape-faithful drawings, where S = G), algorithms for shape-faithful drawings of general graphs have not been investigated. In this paper, we present the first study for shape-faithful drawings of general graphs. First, we conduct extensive comparison experiments for popular graph layouts using the shape-based metrics, and examine the properties of highly shape-faithful drawings. Then, we present ShFR and ShSM, algorithms for shape-faithful drawings based on force-directed and stress-based algorithms, by introducing new proximity forces/stress. Experiments show that ShFR and ShSM obtain significant improvement over FR (Fruchterman-Reingold) and SM (Stress Majorization), on average 12% and 35% respectively, on shape-based metrics., Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 30th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2022)

Human rabies is preventable but almost always fatal once symptoms appear, causing 59,000 global deaths each year. Limited awareness and inconsistent access to post-exposure prophylaxis hinder prevention efforts. To identify gaps and opportunities for improvement in online rabies information, we assessed the readability, understandability, actionability, and completeness of online public rabies resources from government and health agencies in Australia and similar countries, with the aim of identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. We identified materials via Google and public health agency websites, assessing readability using the Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) index and understandability and actionability with the Patient Education Materials Tool for Print materials (PEMAT-P). Completeness was assessed using a framework focused on general and vaccine-specific rabies information. An analysis of 22 resources found a median readability of grade 13 (range: 10–15), with a mean understandability of 66% and mean actionability of 60%; both below recommended thresholds. Mean completeness was 79% for general rabies information and 36% for vaccine-specific information. Visual aids were under-utilised, and critical vaccine-specific information was often lacking. These findings highlight significant barriers in rabies information for the public, with most resources requiring a high literacy level and lacking adequate understandability and actionability. Improving readability, adding visual aids, and enhancing vaccine-related content could improve accessibility and support wider prevention efforts.

Computer Science - Programming Languages - Abstract
Over twenty years ago, Abadi et al. established the Dependency Core Calculus (DCC) as a general purpose framework for analyzing dependency in typed programming languages. Since then, dependency analysis has shown many practical benefits to language design: its results can help users and compilers enforce security constraints, eliminate dead code, among other applications. In this work, we present a Dependent Dependency Calculus (DDC), which extends this general idea to the setting of a dependently-typed language. We use this calculus to track both run-time and compile-time irrelevance, enabling faster type-checking and program execution., Comment: Extended version of paper published in ESOP 2022, 2-7 April 2022, Munich, Germany

Introduction: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) results from pathogenic variants in sarcomeric protein genes that increase myocyte energy demand and lead to cardiac hypertrophy. However, it is unknown whether a common metabolic trait underlies cardiac phenotype at the early disease stage. To address this question and define cardiac biochemical pathology in early-stage HCM, we studied two HCM mouse models that express pathogenic variants in cardiac troponin T (Tnt2) or myosin heavy chain (Myh6) genes, and have marked differences in cardiac imaging phenotype, mitochondrial function at early disease stage. Methods: We used a combination of echocardiography, transcriptomics, mass spectrometry-based untargeted metabolomics (GC-TOF, HILIC, CSH-QTOF), and computational modeling (CardioNet) to examine cardiac structural and metabolic remodeling at early disease stage (5 weeks of age) in R92W-TnT+/− and R403Q-MyHC+/− mutant mice. Data from mutants was compared with respective littermate controls (WT). Results: Allele-specific differences in cardiac phenotype, gene expression and metabolites were observed at early disease stage. CardioNet predicted impaired energy substrate metabolism and greater phospholipid remodeling in TnT mutants than in MyHC mutants. Conclusions: Our systems biology approach revealed marked differences in metabolic remodeling in R92W-TnT and R403Q-MyHC mutant hearts, with TnT mutants showing greater derangements than MyHC mutants, at early disease stage. Changes in cardiolipin composition in TnT mutants could contribute to impairment of energy metabolism and diastolic dysfunction observed in this study, and predispose to energetic stress, ventricular arrhythmias under high workloads such as exercise.

IntroductionWestern Australia has one of the highest rates of Aboriginal children entering out-of-home care in Australia. Kinship care is the preferred culturally safe out-of-home care option for Aboriginal children, yet all jurisdictions, including Western Australia, are far from meeting best-practice national standards. Intersectoral collaboration is a key primary healthcare principle and internationally recognized for improving health systems and outcomes. This paper presents findings from a qualitative research project investigating Aboriginal primary healthcare workers’ experiences of intersectoral collaboration challenges and strengthening opportunities.MethodsConstructivist grounded theory guided this research involving 55 semi-structured interviews and four focus group discussions with Aboriginal primary healthcare workers. The research was guided by Indigenous methodologies and led by Indigenous researchers Participants were recruited from seven Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations located across Perth metro, Pilbara, Midwest/Gascoyne and Southwest regions in Western Australia.ResultsKey themes identified around intersectoral collaboration challenges were communication, including information sharing and interagency meetings, and the relationship with the government sector, including trust and the importance of the perception of Aboriginal health service independence. Key themes around strengthening areas to improve intersectoral collaboration included strengthening service resourcing and coverage, including the availability of services, and addressing high program turnover. The need for a shift in approach, including more emphasis on Aboriginal-led care and aligning approaches between sectors, was another area for strengthening.DiscussionThis study addresses a significant research gap concerning out-of-home care, kinship care, and intersectoral collaboration in an Australian Aboriginal context. Findings highlighted the need to review the out-of-home and kinship models of care to strengthen the system, including creating more formal and structured modes of collaborating and better resourcing family support and kinship care.

Abstract Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is highly prevalent within the Indigenous Australian community. Novel glucose monitoring technology offers an accurate approach to glycaemic management, providing real-time information on glucose levels and trends. The acceptability and feasibilility of this technology in Indigenous Australians with T2DM has not been investigated. Objective This feasibility phenomenological study aims to understand the experiences of Indigenous Australians with T2DM using flash glucose monitoring (FGM). Methods Indigenous Australians with T2DM receiving injectable therapy (n = 8) who used FGM (Abbott Freestyle Libre) for 6-months, as part of a clinical trial, participated in semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis of the interviews was performed using NVivo12 Plus qualitative data analysis software (QSR International). Results Six major themes emerged: 1) FGM was highly acceptable to the individual; 2) FGM’s convenience was its biggest benefit; 3) data from FGM was a tool to modify lifestyle choices; 4) FGM needed to be complemented with health professional support; 5) FGM can be a tool to engage communities in diabetes management; and 6) cost of the device is a barrier to future use. Conclusions Indigenous Australians with T2DM had positive experiences with FGM. This study highlights future steps to ensure likelihood of FGM is acceptable and effective within the wider Indigenous Australian community.

Graded Type Theory provides a mechanism to track and reason about resource usage in type systems. In this paper, we develop GraD, a novel version of such a graded dependent type system that includes functions, tensor products, additive sums, and a unit type. Since standard operational semantics is resource-agnostic, we develop a heap-based operational semantics and prove a soundness theorem that shows correct accounting of resource usage. Several useful properties, including the standard type soundness theorem, non-interference of irrelevant resources in computation and single pointer property for linear resources, can be derived from this theorem. We hope that our work will provide a base for integrating linearity, irrelevance and dependent types in practical programming languages like Haskell., Comment: Extended version of paper with same title at POPL 2021, 39 pages

Computer Science - Logic in Computer Science - Abstract
Graded type theories are an emerging paradigm for augmenting the reasoning power of types with parameterizable, fine-grained analyses of program properties. There have been many such theories in recent years which equip a type theory with quantitative dataflow tracking, usually via a semiring-like structure which provides analysis on variables (often called `quantitative' or `coeffect' theories). We present Graded Modal Dependent Type Theory (GrTT for short), which equips a dependent type theory with a general, parameterizable analysis of the flow of data, both in and between computational terms and types. In this theory, it is possible to study, restrict, and reason about data use in programs and types, enabling, for example, parametric quantifiers and linearity to be captured in a dependent setting. We propose GrTT, study its metatheory, and explore various case studies of its use in reasoning about programs and studying other type theories. We have implemented the theory and highlight the interesting details, including showing an application of grading to optimising the type checking procedure itself.

In this paper, we present new quality metrics for dynamic graph drawings. Namely, we present a new framework for change faithfulness metrics for dynamic graph drawings, which compare the ground truth change in dynamic graphs and the geometric change in drawings. More specifically, we present two specific instances, cluster change faithfulness metrics and distance change faithfulness metrics. We first validate the effectiveness of our new metrics using deformation experiments. Then we compare various graph drawing algorithms using our metrics. Our experiments confirm that the best cluster (resp. distance) faithful graph drawing algorithms are also cluster (resp. distance) change faithful., Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 28th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2020)

Monads are a useful tool for structuring effectful features of computation such as state, non-determinism, and continuations. In the last decade, several generalisations of monads have been suggested which provide a more fine-grained model of effects by replacing the single type constructor of a monad with an indexed family of constructors. Most notably, graded monads (indexed by a monoid) model effect systems and parameterised monads (indexed by pairs of pre- and post-conditions) model program logics. This paper studies the relationship between these two generalisations of monads via a third generalisation. This third generalisation, which we call category-graded monads, arises by generalising a view of monads as a particular special case of lax functors. A category-graded monad provides a family of functors T f indexed by morphisms f of some other category. This allows certain compositions of effects to be ruled out (in the style of a program logic) as well as an abstract description of effects (in the style of an effect system). Using this as a basis, we show how graded and parameterised monads can be unified, studying their similarities and differences along the way., Comment: In Proceedings MSFP 2020, arXiv:2004.14735

The visualization of a network influences the quality of the mental map that the viewer develops to understand the network. In this study, we investigate the effects of a 3D immersive visualization environment compared to a traditional 2D desktop environment on the comprehension of a network's structure. We compare the two visualization environments using three tasks--interpreting network structure, memorizing a set of nodes, and identifying the structural changes--commonly used for evaluating the quality of a mental map in network visualization. The results show that participants were able to interpret network structure more accurately when viewing the network in an immersive environment, particularly for larger networks. However, we found that 2D visualizations performed better than immersive visualization for tasks that required spatial memory., Comment: IEEE Pacific Visualization Symposium 2020

Symmetry is an important aesthetic criteria in graph drawing and network visualisation. Symmetric graph drawings aim to faithfully represent automorphisms of graphs as geometric symmetries in a drawing. In this paper, we design and implement a framework for quality metrics that measure symmetry, that is, how faithfully a drawing of a graph displays automorphisms as geometric symmetries. The quality metrics are based on geometry (i.e. Euclidean distance) as well as mathematical group theory (i.e. orbits of automorphisms). More specifically, we define two varieties of symmetry quality metrics: (1) for displaying a single automorphism as a symmetry (axial or rotational) and (2) for displaying a group of automorphisms (cyclic or dihedral). We also present algorithms to compute the symmetric quality metrics in O(n log n) time for rotational symmetry and axial symmetry. We validate our symmetry quality metrics using deformation experiments. We then use the metrics to evaluate a number of established graph drawing layouts to compare how faithfully they display automorphisms of a graph as geometric symmetries.

Infomap clustering finds the community structures that minimize the expected description length of a random walk trajectory; algorithms for infomap clustering run fast in practice for large graphs. In this paper we leverage the effectiveness of Infomap clustering combined with the multi-level graph drawing paradigm. Experiments show that our new Infomap based multi-level algorithm produces good visualization of large and complex networks, with significant improvement in quality metrics., Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 27th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2019)

Traditionally, graph quality metrics focus on readability, but recent studies show the need for metrics which are more specific to the discovery of patterns in graphs. Cluster analysis is a popular task within graph analysis, yet there is no metric yet explicitly quantifying how well a drawing of a graph represents its cluster structure. We define a clustering quality metric measuring how well a node-link drawing of a graph represents the clusters contained in the graph. Experiments with deforming graph drawings verify that our metric effectively captures variations in the visual cluster quality of graph drawings. We then use our metric to examine how well different graph drawing algorithms visualize cluster structures in various graphs; the results con-firm that some algorithms which have been specifically designed to show cluster structures perform better than other algorithms., Comment: Appears in the Proceedings of the 27th International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2019)

In this paper we introduce Commutative/Non-Commutative Logic (CNC logic) and two categorical models for CNC logic. This work abstracts Benton's Linear/Non-Linear Logic by removing the existence of the exchange structural rule. One should view this logic as composed of two logics; one sitting to the left of the other. On the left, there is intuitionistic linear logic, and on the right is a mixed commutative/non-commutative formalization of the Lambek calculus. Then both of these logics are connected via a pair of monoidal adjoint functors. An exchange modality is then derivable within the logic using the adjunction between both sides. Thus, the adjoint functors allow one to pull the exchange structural rule from the left side to the right side. We then give a categorical model in terms of a monoidal adjunction, and then a concrete model in terms of dialectica Lambek spaces., Comment: In Proceedings Linearity-TLLA 2018, arXiv:1904.06159
