The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Dirofilaria immitis (D. immitis) in dogs in the Ardahan region. The study material consisted of 100 Akbaş crossbred dogs (53 females and 47 males) between the ages of 3-7 in Ardahan region. An immunochromatographic analysis test kit was used to determine seroprevalence. The presence of antigen against D. immitis was determined as 12% (12/100). When the dogs with antigens against D. immitis were evaluated according to their age, it was determined that the highest positivity was in 4 years old (15%) (P˃0.05). Antigen presence against D. immitis was detected in 10.6% of male dogs and 13.2% of female dogs (P˃0.05). According to the data obtained from this study, it was concluded that D. immitis was seen in dogs in the Ardahan region and that protection and control measures should be taken for the eradication of this disease due to reasons such as global warming, wildlife and lack of education.

Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) seeds have antioxidant properties that can improve livestock performance and productivity. Probiotics are feed additives that may have pharmaceutical and/or metabolic effects on animal health and growth performance. Due to the differences in their mode of action, it is thought that the combined use of chia seeds, probiotics and enzyme mix will cause additional effects on performance, blood and rumen parameters in ruminant animals. For this purpose, Tuj sheep (n=20; 1.5 years old; average 40.5 kg) were divided into 1 control and 3 experimental groups, each with 5 animals. Trail rations were separately and combined with 0, 2.5% chia seeds (CT), 1g/kg probiotic enzyme mixture (P+E) and 2.5% CT + 1g/kg P+E were added. Sheep were fed for a total of 21 days, with 7 days of adaptation and 14 days of trial period. The results indicated that the effect of adding CT and/or P+E to the diets of Tuj sheep on fattening performance was found to be insignificant (P>0.05). While rumen total essential oil (tVFA) acid concentration increased in the control experimental group (P0.05). While the concentrations of serum, non-esterified fatty acids, betahydroxybutyric acid, nitric oxide and calcium values differed from the experimental groups to which feed additives was added compared to the control group (P0.05)., Chia (Salvia hispanica L.), Labiate ailesinin bir üyesidir ve tohumları, çiftlik hayvanlarının performansını ve üretkenliğini artırabilecek fenolik bileşikler ve çoklu doymamış yağ asitleri (PUFA'lar) bakımından zengin, antioksidan özelliğindedir. Probiyotikler ise hayvan sağlığı ve büyüme performansı üzerinde farmasötik ve/veya metabolik etkilere sahip olabilecek yem katkı maddeleridir. Etki tarzlarındaki farklılıklar nedeniyle, bunların kombinasyonları ruminant hayvanlarda performans, kan ve rumen parametreleri üzerinde ilave etkilere sahip olabilir. Bu amaçla, çalışmada Tuj koyunları (n=20; 1,5 yaşında; ortalama 40,5 kg) her birinde 5 hayvan bulunacak şekilde 1 kontrol ve 3 deneme grubuna ayrılmıştır. Çalışma rasyonlarına ayrı ve kombine olarak, sırası ile 0, %2,5 chia tohumu (CT), 1g/kg probiyotik enzim karışımı (P+E) ve %2,5 CT + 1g/kg P+E ilavesi yapılmıştır. Koyunlar 7 gün adaptasyon ve 14 gün deneme süresi olacak şekilde toplam 21 gün beslenmiştir. Sonuçlar göstermiştir ki, Tuj koyunlarının rasyonlarına CT ve/veya P+E ilavesinin besi performansı üzerine etkisinin önemsiz bulunmuştur (P>0,05). Rumen toplam uçucu yağ (tVFA) asitleri konsantrasyonu kontrol grubuna göre artarken (P0,05). Serum Esterleşmemiş yağ asitleri, Betahidroksibütrikasit, Nitrik oksit ve kalsiyum, değerleri katkı maddesi ilavesi yapılan deneme gruplarında kontrol grubuna göre farklılık gösterirken (P0,05).

Bu çalışmada Babesia canis ile doğal enfekte köpeklerde serum haptoglobin (Hp), serum amiloid-A (SAA), seruloplazmin (Cp)ve albümin (Alb) seviyelerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmanın materyalini, Kafkas Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi İç Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı kliniklerine getirilen, kan frotilerinin giemsa yöntemi ile boyanması sonucunda B. canis tanısı konulan 20 hasta köpek oluşturdu. Kontrol amacı ile 10 sağlıklı köpek kullanıldı. Hasta hayvanların serum Hp, SAA, Cp ve Alb seviyeleri sırasıyla 0.44±0.12 mg/mL, 43.18±13.77 µg/mL, 10.75±2.45 mg/dL, 2.74±0.15 g/dL olarak belirlendi. Sağlıklı hayvanların serum Hp, SAA, Cp ve Alb değerleri ise sırasıyla 1.84±0.29 mg/mL, 1.18±0.40 µg/mL, 4.80±0.53 mg/dL, 3.01±0.34 g/dL olarak ölçüldü. Türkiye lokal gen kaynaklarından olan ve sayıları günden güne azalan Gürcü keçileri hakkında yapılmış çalışmalar oldukça kısıtlıdır. Bu çalışmada Gürcü keçilerinde, meraya çıkmadan önce, mera sezonunda ve mera beslemesinin bittiği dönemde bazı biyokimyasal parametrelerdeki değişimin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Keçilerin (n=30) dakikadaki solunum sayısı (R), nabız sayısı (P) ve rektal ısıları (T) belirlendi. Kan örnekleri mera öncesi (4 ay), mera beslemesi (4 ay) ve mera sonrasında (4 ay) olacak şekilde her dönemin ortasında alındı. Glukoz (GLUK), laktat dehidrogenaz (LDH), trigliserit (TG) ve total protein (TP) konsantrasyonunun mera öncesi dönemde diğer dönemlerden istatistiksel olarak önemli ölçüde düşük bulunduğu tespit edildi. Kalsiyum (Ca) ve aspartat aminotransferaz (AST) seviyesinde dönemler arası istatistiksel fark belirlenemezken magnezyum (Mg) seviyesinin mera öncesi dönemde mera sonrasına göre yüksek olduğu belirlendi. Düşük yoğunluklu lipoprotein (LDL-C) konsantrasyonunun ise merada ve mera sonrası süreçte yükseldiği belirlendi. Respiratory rate (R), pulse rate (P) and rectal temperature (T) of goats (n=30) were determined. Blood samples were taken in the middle of each period, before pasture (4 months), pasture feeding (4 months) and after pasture (4 months). It was found that glucose (GLUK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), triglyceride (TG) and total protein (TP) concentration were found to be significantly lower in the pre-pasture period than other periods. While there was no statistical difference between the periods in the calcium (Ca) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level, it was determined that the magnesium (Mg) level was higher than the pasture after the pasture. Low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) concentration was determined to increase in pasture and post-pasture process. As a result, it was found that some serum biochemical parameters were significantly affected in different periods of traditional feeding in Gurcu goats.

Çalışmada 2-4 yaşlı, sağlıklı 30 dişi Gürcü keçisi kullanıldı. Keçilerin dakikadaki solunum (R) ve nabız sayıları (P) ile rektal ısıları (T) belirlenmiştir. While there was no statistical difference between the periods in the calcium (Ca, mean 9.41 mg/dL) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST, mean 123.15 IU/L) level, it was determined that the magnesium (Mg, mean 2.68 mEq/L) level was higher than the pasture after the pasture. Low density lipoprotein (LDL-C, mean 30.05 mg/dL) concentration was determined to increase in pasture and post-pasture process. As a result, it was found that some serum biochemical parameters were significantly affected in different periods of traditional feeding in Gurcu goats.

Çalışmanın amacı sığırlarda şap hastalığının tedavi öncesi ve sonrası bazı biyokimyasal parametrelere etkisini araş-tırmaktır. Araştırmada 12-24 aylık yaşlarda 25 şap hastalıklı ve aynı yaşlarda 10 sağlıklı İsviçre Esmeri sığır kullanıldı. Tedaviöncesi 0. gün ve tedavi sonrası 7. ve 14. günde V. jugularis’ten kan alınarak santifüj edildi. Serum örneklerinden biyokimyasalolarak glukoz, total protein, albümin, demir, üre, total bilirubin, globulin, kreatinin, kalsiyum ve fosfor konsantrasyonları ile ALPaktivitesi ölçüldü. Şaplı hayvanlarda glukoz konsantrasyonu ve ALP aktivitesi kontrol grubuna göre önemli derecede yüksek,buna karşın total protein, albümin, demir, kalsiyum ve fosfor ile üre değerlerinin önemli derecede düşük olduğu belirlendi.Bilirubin ve kreatinin konsantrasyonunda önemli bir değişiklik saptanmadı. Sonuç olarak bu çalışmada şap hastalıklı hayvanlardabiyokimyasal parametrelerde önemli değişikliklerin oluştuğu saptanmış olup parametrelerin hastalığın patogenezis veprognozunun belirlenmesinde kullanılabileceği düşünülmektedir., The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects on serum biochemical parameters before and after treatmentin cattle with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Thirty five Swiss Brown cattle (25 cattle with FMD and control group 10healthy cattle) aged between 12-24 month were used. Blood samples were collected from Jugular vein (before treatment 0.day, after treatment 7th and 14th days) and centrifuged. Serum samples were used to determine the concentration of glucose,total protein, albumin, iron, urea nitrogen, total bilirubin, globuline, creatinin, calcium, phosphorus and activity of ALP. Serumglucose concentration and activity of ALP was significantly higher in the FMD group than it was in the control group whereasserum total protein, albumin, iron, calcium, phosphorus and urea nitrogen levels were significantly low in the FMD group comparedto the control group. There were no significant differences with concentration of bilirubin and creatinin. Finally, in thisstudy were found significant changes in biochemical parameters of foot-and-mouth disease that has occurred in animals andthese parameters could be used for determining pathogenesis of diseases and prognosis.

This study was aimed at investigating the alterations observed in serum copper (Cu), manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) concentrations in bovine dermatophytosis. Sixty cattle of both genders and various breeds, aged 3-­‐18 months and raised in Kars province and surrounding villages, and 40 of them suffered from dermatophytosis (Group I) while 20 of them were healthy (Group II), constituted the study material. The mean serum Cu, Mn and Zn concentrations of animals were determined as 0.33, 3.10 and 0.79 ml/L, respectively, in Group I, and as 0.18, 6.25 and 3.14 ml/L, respectively, in Group II. The statistical comparison of serum Mn and Zn concentrations of cattle diagnosed with dermatophytosis and healthy ones demonstrated that serum Mn and Zn concentrations of cattle suffering from dermatophytosis were significantly lower than that of healthy ones (P, Bu çalışma, dermatofitozisli sığırlarda, serum bakır (Cu), mangan (Mn) ve çinko (Zn) değerlerindeki değişiklikleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma materyalini Kars ve çevre köylerinden sağlanan 3-18 aylık yaşta, farklı cinsiyet ve ırkta 40’ı dermatofitozisli (Grup I), 20’si sağlıklı (Grup II) olmak üzere toplam 60 sığır oluşturdu. I. gruptaki hayvanların serum Cu, Mn ve Zn değerlerinin ortalaması sırasıyla 0.33, 3.10 ve 0.79 ml/L olarak belirlenirken II. gruptaki hayvanların serum Cu, Mn ve Zn değerlerinin ortalaması sırasıyla 0.18, 6.25 ve 3.14 ml/L olarak belirlendi. Dermatofitozisli sığırlar ile sağlıklı sığırların serum Mn ve Zn değerleri istatistiksel olarak karşılaştırıldığında dermatofitozisli sığırların serum Mn ve Zn değerlerinin sağlıklı sığırlara göre belirgin oranda düşük (P < 0.001) olduğu belirlendi. Serum Cu değeri ise dermatofitozisli hayvanlarda sağlıklı hayvanlara oranla daha yüksek olarak belirlendi (P < 0.001). Sonuç olarak, dermatofitozisli sığırlarda serum Mn ve Zn değerleri azalırken, Cu değerinin farklı yönlerde etkilenebileceği belirlendi.

Örneklerin nitrat ve nitrit seviyeleri sırasıyla 14.88-943.71 mg/kg ve 0.46-378.16 mg/kg olarak belirlendi. Örneklerin 13 tanesinde (%32.5) epitel doku, 11 örnekte (%27.5) çoğunluğu serö-muköz karakterde bez epiteline rastlandı. Örneklerin 5 adedinde (%12.5) düz kas dokusu ile kıkırdak ve kemik dokusu belirlendi. Öneri: Analiz edilen örneklerin tamamının standartların belirttiği özellikleri taşımadığı tespit edilmiştir. Bu sonuç üretimin ve üretim sonrası denetimlerin çok önemli olduğunu göstermektedir., Aim: This study was conducted for the purpose of identifying the microbiological, physico-chemical and histological aspects of quality criteria in sausage-like products obtained from local markets and different samples of fermented sausages produced using traditional methods by local butcher shops in the province of Kars. Materials and Methods: Sampling was made during just one day and all the fermented sausages (n:30) and cooked sausage-like products (n:10) were purchased from all butchers and market points in Kars city centre. Microbiological analysis was performed by spread and/or pour plate techniques. Histological analysis was performed by Crossman triple stain and hematoxylin-eosin stains. Physicochemical analysis was performed by gravimetric and spectrophotometric methods.Results: Escherichia coli was identified in one of the cooked sausagelike products and in one sample of fermented sausage. Neither Clostridium perfringens nor E. coli O157:H7 were identified in any of the samples. Listeria monocytogenes was isolated in four (10%) of the fermented sausage samples and Salmonella spp in two fermented sausage samples (5%). Nitrate and nitrite levels in the sausage were found to be 14.88–943.71 mg/kg and 0.46-378.16 mg/kg, respectively. Thirteen (32.5%) of the sausage samples that were examined contained epithelial tissue, 27.5% (11 samples) contained glandular epithelial tissue, which was mostly seromucous in nature, and five (12.5%) contained cartilage and bone tissue with smooth muscle tissue. Conclusion: None of the sausage samples met the requirements of the standards. This shows that controlled production and post-production inspection are very important.

Bu çalışma, tuj kuzularının konsantre yemlerinde kullanılan farklı protein kaynaklarının 1, 30, 60 ve 90 günlük besi sürelerinde bazı kan metabolitleri üzerine etkisini belirlemek amacı ile yapıldı. Denemede, 3-3.5 aylık yaşta, ortalama 19.5 kg canlı ağırlıkta, 24 baş Tuj ırkı erkek kuzu kullanıldı. Rasgele seçilen ve 6 baş kuzu içeren 4 ayrı deneme grubu oluşturuldu. Her bir hayvan bireysel kafeslere konuldu. Gruplara farklı protein kaynakları içeren konsantre yem karmaları hazırlandı. Kaba yem olarak çayır kuru otu kullanıldı. Sabah yemlemesinden sonra vena jugularis’ten 1, 30, 60 ve 90. gün kan örnekleri alındı. Dört farklı bitkisel protein kaynağı içeren değişik konsantre yemlerle beslenen gruplarda 1, 30, 60, 90. günlerde alınan plazma örneklerinde yapılan analizlerde dönemlerin ve farklı protein kaynaklarının kan plazma parametreleri üzerine etkisi incelendi. Farklı protein kaynaklarıyla yapılan çalışmada bazı kan parametrelerinde farklılık saptansa da parametrelerin düzeylerinin normal sınırlarda olduğu, beslenmenin bazı kan parametreleri üzerine etkisi olabileceği saptandı. Bu araştırma sonucunda, rasyonlarda protein kaynağı olarak mısır gluten unu, pamuk tohumu küspesi, soya küspesi ya da ayçiçeği küspesi kullanılmasının bazı kan parametreleri üzerine olumsuz etkisinin olmadığı kanısına varıldı., This study was performed to determine the effects of various protein sources on certain blood metabolites, added to the Tuj lamb concentrates used for 1, 30, 60, and 90 day periods. In the study, a number of 24 weaned Tuj lambs, male 3-3.5 months old and weighing meanly 19.5 kg, were randomly divided into four groups, and each animal was put in individual cages. Concentrates containing various protein sources were prepared, and hay was used as roughage. Blood samples were obtained through the jugular vein on the days of 1, 30, 60, and 90 after the morning feeding. The effects of the periods and various protein sources were determined using the plasma samples obtained on the first, 30th, 60th, and 90th days from the groups fed with the concentrates possessing four different phyto-protein sources. The parameters obtained hereby were at normal levels even though there were numerical differences in some of the blood parameters, thus nourishment may have certain effects on these parameters. Overall, this study has revealed that using corn gluten meal, cotton seed meal, soybean meal, and sunflower meal as protein sources has no negative effect on certain blood parameters.

Zylexis is a paraimmunity activator containing inactive paropoxvirus ovis which has been utilised as a protective against variety of infectious diseases. Nitric oxide (NO), reactive oxygen species and sialic acids are mediators playing important roles in inflammation and the regulation of immune response. In this study, effects of Zylexis administration on blood glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), total and lipid-bound sialic acid (TSA, LSA) levels were investigated in calves. For this purpose, 12 Brown Swiss breed calves at 6-8 months of age were used. Prior to the drug administration (on day 0), blood samples were collected, and then Zylexis (2 ml) was applied intramuscularly to the each calve on days 1, 3 and 5. Blood samples were also collected on days 1, 3 and 5 for biochemical analysis. In comparison to day zero samples, Zylexis increased the blood MDA levels on days 1 and 3, while GSH level was decreased on days 1, 3 and 5. NO concentration was significantly increased following Zylexis treatment on all days as compared to those of day zero samples. TSA levels decreased on day 1, while no difference was found on day 3 and 5, as compared to day zero. Moreover, LSA levels remained unchanged on days 1 and 3, while there was an increase on day 5 following Zylexis treatment. In conclusion, Zylexis could alter oxidative stress parameters leading to lipid peroxidation by increasing MDA and reduction of antioxidant status by decreasing GSH levels. Nitrik oksit (NO), reaktif oksijen türleri ve sialik asitler yangı ve bağışıklığın regülasyonunda önemli rollere sahip mediatörlerdir. Bu çalışmada Zylexis uygulamasının buzağılarda kan glutatyon (GSH), malondialdehit (MDA), nitrik oksit (NO), toplam ve lipit bağlı sialik asit (TSA, LSA) seviyeleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla 12 adet 6-8 aylık Montafon ırkı buzağıdan başlangıçta (0. gün) kan örnekleri alındıktan sonra 1, 3 ve 5 günlerde intramusküler olarak 2 ml Zylexis uygulandı. Son uygulamadan sonraki 1, 3 ve 5. günlerde kan örnekleri alınarak biyokimyasal analizler yapıldı. İlaç uygulamasından önceki örneklerle (0. gün) karşılaştırıldığında Zylexis uygulaması ile buzağılarda kan MDA düzeyi 1 ve 3. günlerde yükselirken, GSH seviyelerinin 1, 3 ve 5. günlerde düştüğü tespit edildi. NO düzeylerinin tüm günlerde anlamlı bir şekilde yükseldiği tespit edildi. Total sialik asit seviyeleri 1. günde azalırken 3 ve 5. günlerde Zylexis uygulaması öncesine göre bir fark bulunamadı. Buna karşın, lipit bağlı sialik asit seviyesi 1 ve 3. günlerde değişmezken 5. günde yükseldiği gözlendi. Sonuç olarak, Zylexis’in oksidatif stres ile ilgili kan parametrelerinde MDA’da yükselişe yol açarak lipit peroksidasyonuna ve GSH seviyesinde düşüşe yol açarak antioksidan seviyesinde azalmaya yol açtığı tespit edilmiştir. Aynı zamanda, nitrik oksit ve sialik asit düzeylerinde değişiklikler tespit edilmiş olup, bu değişimlerin Zylexis’in immun cevap üzerindeki etkileri ile olan bağlantılarının daha detaylı çalışmalar ile ortaya konabileceği kanaatine varıldı.

Bu çalışmada Kars yöresinde halk elinde yetiştirilen ineklerde, süt Rothera testi ve BHB düzeyinin belirlenmesi ile subklinik ketozis prevalansının belirlenmesi ve hastalığın bazı biyokimyasal parametreler üzerine etkisinin saptanması amaçlanmıştır.Bu çalışmada daha önce belirlenen 6 odakta toplam 51 yetiştiriciye ait 3-6 yaşlı 22 Holstein ırkı, 104 İsviçre Esmeri, 107 Simental ırkı toplam 233 adet inek kullanıldı. Sağlıklı ve Subklinik Ketozisli ineklerin belirlenmesinde eşik değeri olarak 1,00 mmol/L BHB düzeyi alınmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Kars yöresinde bulunan Tuj ve Morkaraman ırkı koyunlarda serum ve süt Lösin Aminopeptidaz aktivitesinin araştırılması amaçlandı. Materyal olarak 87 adet 3-6 yaşında, Tuj ve Morkaraman ırkı koyun kullanıldı. Koyunlardan uygun alınan kanlardan elde edilen serum ve süt örneklerinde spektrofotometre ile LAP aktiviteleri tayin edildi. Serum LAP aktivitesi Morkaraman ırkı koyunlarda 8,93 ± 3,50 µg/ml, süt LAP aktivitesi de 16,84 ± 6,35 µg/ml olarak, Tuj ırkı koyunlarda serum LAP aktivitesi 8,36 ± 1,82 µg/ml, süt LAP aktivitesi de 17,00 ± 9,17 µg/ml bulundu.
