The purpose of this paper is to evaluate information literacy (IL) education in library schools in Nigeria, to establish whether they are in line with international and national library and information science (LIS) standards ('library schools' here indicates departments offering LIS qualifications within higher education institutions). The study used document analysis and qualitative methods. First, departmental documents from heads of department and students' handbooks containing the LIS curriculum were collected from thirty (30) library schools in Nigeria and analyzed. Secondly, lecturers in the department of LIS from the thirteen (13) library schools offering an IL course were engaged in an interview. The study revealed a significant improvement compared to previous studies as 13 out of the 30 Nigerian universities surveyed offered the course 'information literacy' as a stand-alone course in the department of LIS. Unfortunately, the study found that majority of the LIS departments do not have IL laboratories for students to acquire practical skills. These findings will provide useful data for stakeholders in the university system such as supervising bodies, university management, heads of department, and library associations and regulatory bodies, assisting them in the creation of policies related to the integration of IL courses into the school system and in enforcing the implementation of these policies.

Librarians are continuously expected to update their job knowledge and renew their job related skills to enable them compete effectively in our changing society. These professionals are also expected to acquire extensive education and training to enable them function properly and be productive in their organisations. Agreeably, for librarians to integrate and develop a nation like Nigeria, sustained efforts must be made by pulling acquired knowledge and skills into practice for quality service delivery, which is now the hall-mark of international best practices. This paper assesses the educating and training of librarians for national integration and development. It discussed the concept education and training. It further highlighted programmes as well as course contents for the educating and training of librarians. It concluded that the performance index of librarians through education and training will enable them to acquire the competencies needed to render appropriate and quality services in libraries in Nigeria. The paper recommended that education and training of librarians should be more of practicum and that librarians must acquire computer and internet literacy.

Introduction: This study aims to gain a greater understanding of the development of open access practices amongst library and information science authors, since their role is integral to the success of the broader open access movement. Method: Data were collected from scholarly articles about open access by library and information science authors from 2003 until 2011 found in the Library and Information Science Abstracts database. Analysis: A bibliometric approach is taken for the information gathered from 203 articles. Excel and SPSS were used to derive descriptive statistics and correlations. Results: Overall an open access rate of 60% was found, which was lower than expected considering 94% of these articles appeared to endorse open access. Conclusions: Although these results show a higher open access rate than previous studies, and a linear growth of open access publications over the years, there is still a large gap between theory and practice which needs to be addressed.

Several career paths are open to law graduates. Many of them pursue careers in other fields without giving a thought to law librarianship. The fact that majority of law students do not consider law librarianship as a career option is undesirable for the future of law librarianship. The future of law librarianship profession may depend on awareness. The study therefore examined the influence of awareness on the career choice of law librarianship among law students in South-West, Nigeria. The study employed the survey research design. The population for the study was 2,945 undergraduate law students in the in the 12 purposively selected universities that run the approved undergraduate law program up to 500 level in South-West, Nigeria. Krejcie and Morgan's formula was used to select the sample size of 597. The instrument for data collection was a validated questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the constructs ranged from 0.80 to 0.89. The return rate was 94%. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result showed that awareness of law librarianship significantly influenced law students' choice of law librarianship as a career. The study also revealed that law students were slightly aware of law librarianship as a choice of career. Results indicated that the inclination to pursue a career in law librarianship was based on altruistic consideration.

The purpose of this study was to examine social networking use among Library and Information Science students of the Delta State University, Abraka. In this study, students completed a questionnaire which assessed their familiarity with social networking sites, the purpose for which they use social networking site and their most preferred sites to use. Furthermore the study tested two hypotheses. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test and chi square tests of significance. Results indicated that almost all of the sampled students were familiar with social networking and their most used site is Facebook. Findings also revealed that there is no significant difference in the usage of social networking sites by male and female LIS students and that there is significant relationship between the age of the students and social networking sites that they use.

The paper examined the emergence and important role of blended librarianship as a fulcrum of relevance for librarians in Nigerian universities. It x-rayed the global trends in blended librarianship vis-à-vis the Nigerian situation. Furthermore, the study considered perceived challenges libraries may be confronted with in deploying relevant ICT infrastructure geared towards transitioning from traditional to hybrid services provision for the successful implementation of blended librarianship. The paper recommended the design and implementation of an appropriate framework for the development of ICTs in Nigerian universities, urgency in the acquisition of new skill sets by academic librarians in Nigeria, while also calling on relevant stakeholders to review the current curricula of Nigerian library schools to reflect current realities in the work place. This paper discussed infopreneurship skills as a means toward achieving sustainability in librarianship. The excruciating economic reality prevalent in Nigeria today and globally has compelled librarians and other professional practitioners to consider other means of income to support salary paid job to survive in this era of economic quagmire and also sustain professional relevance in the 21st century. Infopreneurship skills has been identify as skills required to boast economic of a nation and maintaining sustainability in Librarianship, with the advent of information communication technology (ICT) where information is gotten at the fingertip. This paper started with the introduction of the concepts; it discussed the benefits of engaging in infoprenurship by librarians and library and information professionals; if further discussed the importance of infopreneurship, and finally discussed the challenges facing infoprenurs. The paper concluded by saying that infopreneurship is a very vital opportunities that librarians should embraced as means of wealth creation and recommended that policy of practical approach to infoprenuerial skills should be incorporated into the curriculum of library and information science for sustainability in librarianship and national economic growth. The study was designed to know the year-wise research growth rate, author collaboration pattern and productivity, sub-domain research in library science, research keyword network, thematic and cluster analysis of journal Annals of Library and Information Science. The data search and download has been done under (Scopus database) sources by selecting the subject area Social Science/Library and Information Science and the journal Annals of Library and Information Science. A total of 388 articles from the study period 2011 to 2022 have been downloaded with all bibliographic information from the Scopus database. VOSviewer (version, 1.6.9) and R (Biblioshiny) software have been used for data visualization and keyword analysis. Total 388 articles were published in which 2014 noted as the most productive year (11.60%) and 2019 as least productive (4.64%) year. Citation analysis indicates that highest 315 citation (18.39%) for year 2011 and lowest 32 (1.87%) in 2022, noted so for averaging 4.41 per article annually. multi-authored articles were found prominent (48.20%), followed by single authors (33.76%). The Collaborative Index ranged from 1.81 to 2.03 (average 1.88), and the Degree of Collaboration found between 0.88 to 0.73 (average 0.82). The Collaboration Coefficient, reflecting averaged collaboration 0.365, with values from 0.29 to 0.41. B K Sen, B Dutta, and K C Garg, noted as highest contributor for this journal where with article "Internet of Things and Libraries" published by Pujar S M & Satyanarayana K V in year 2015 has highest number of citations for any article. Keyword analysis indicate that term "Scientometrics," "Bibliometrics," and "India," occurred most time where Library Services, H-index, and Covid-19 noted as latest occurred term for year 2021. The thematic analysis of subject shows that koha, vufind, ethics, open source, ontology, academic integrity, citation impact, altmetrics, lexicon etc. found as emerging subject areas for research. As expected, India emerged as the primary contributor in publications (76.80%) and citations (75.55%), followed by Nigeria (6.44% publications, 5.78% citations) which shows the journal must make its presence on international level. The study investigated conference attendance and job satisfaction of librarians in some selected university libraries in South -South, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive study. Two research questions were formulated to guide the study. The population of the study consists of 113 recruited librarians in all the federal universities libraries in South- South Nigeria. A total of 113 copies of the questionnaire were distributed and 95 copies of the questionnaire were retrieved using descriptive statistics mean and percentage mean score of 2.5 and above and percentage score of 50% were considered as acceptable. The study revealed that the effects of conference attendance among librarians in the university libraries under study are as follow: professional experience, learns about current events, learn about current technology, learn about current trend and improves job satisfaction. Also, the study further affirmed that the extent of conference attendance among librarians are: It improves relations among librarians, it opens new horizon in the profession, it helps to recognize the interdependence of knowledge and information and to improve on their basic education. The study recommends that parent institutions should try as much as possible to sponsor librarians to conferences to broaden their horizon. This study explores the use of social media by Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduates which gives them the opportunity to share knowledge with their colleagues and also benefit from interactions with individuals within and outside the country. Despite these benefits, studies have reported that some undergraduates including those in Library and Information Science (LIS), misuse the social media and engage in cybercrime, pornography etc. This could be a function of their media literacy skills (MLS). The study examined media literacy skills and use of social media by undergraduates in two universities in Ibadan, Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design of the correlational type was adopted for this study. The population consisted of 313 LIS undergraduates of University of Ibadan and Lead City University, Ibadan. The total enumeration technique was used. Data was collected with the aid of questionnaire and descriptive and inferential statistics were used in presenting the data for the study. The study showed that the level of media literacy skills of the respondents was high overall (... = 54.7) as against the threshold of 64. Majority of the LIS undergraduates used social media to get relief from academic stress (... = 3.55) and to get current information for social events (... = 3.52). WhatsApp 264(90.4%), Facebook 190(65.1%) and Instagram 183(62.7%) were used daily. The challenges faced by most of the respondents in the use of social media were; high internet connectivity (... = 3.20) and poor internet connectivity (... = 3.12). There was significant relationship between media literacy skills and use of social media by LIS undergraduates in two universities in Ibadan (r = .439*, df =291, p<0.05). The findings revealed that use of social media by LIS undergraduates for academic purposes can be enhanced if they have high level of media literacy skills. Therefore, it is recommended that LIS undergraduates should minimise external distractions by silencing their smart device during study session to avoid being distracted when using the social media for academic purposes. Aliteracy, the lack of interest in reading by capable readers among the in-school adolescents in Nigeria, has raised many concerns among the stakeholders. This study examines the role of Library School educators in reducing aliteracy through the cooperative intervention of Book Clubs establishment and sustenance in secondary schools. This paper presents opinion reports through a literature search and review. The study was carried out to describe aliteracy and its prevalence among in-school adolescents, ascertain the need for cooperative intervention to reduce aliteracy among in-school adolescents and examine the role of Library School Educators. Literature search and review were used to establish the need to reduce aliteracy through the collaborative intervention of Book Clubs among in-school adolescents. The roles of Library School educators in training personnel that will be involved were also considered. The prevalence of aliteracy among in-school adolescents was established, and the need to reduce it through the collaborative intervention of the establishment of book clubs in secondary schools by stakeholders was also reiterated. There is a need for a holistic overhaul of the library school curriculum to accommodate the training of librarians to reduce aliteracy among in-school adolescents through establishing book clubs. This study is a citation analysis of serials in postgraduate Theses and dissertations of library and information science of public universities in Southeast Nigeria submitted from 2013 to 2021. The study was guide by five research questions in line with the objectives of the study. The study employed a descriptive survey design with a sampled population of 296 derived through census method from four public universities offering library and information science. The principle instruments used in collecting data for this study were self-designed checklists. With the checklists, 12455 serials citations were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mode, mean and range and data presented in tables, charts and graphs using frequencies and percentile. The study found that the most cited serials types were journals with 76.5% citations followed by conference proceedings/reports with 20% and the least cited being government publication with only .5 citations. This affirms other citation analysis, which found that journals are the most frequently used type. It was further discovered that serials used were either in print or electronic form. The study also revealed that multi authorship is the most frequently cited author pattern in library graduates theses and dissertations, while annual serials citations range from 1034 to 2205. The study indicated that the average age of serials used was 0 - 20. The study recommended among other things that there should be documentation librarian in each university library whose duty should be tracking down research reports, ensuring proper documentations and upward delivery to the university library circulation unit. Serials being important to students and researchers as they contain the most current and relevant information that can be used for academic and research purposes needs to be assessed periodically to determine if they are still relevant to the users. This study therefore examines the analysis of serials citations in graduate-students' theses as a practical instrument for effective management of serials in academic libraries using theses submitted from 2013 to 2021 in Library and information Science of four government owned universities in eastern region of Nigeria as case in point. The study was meant to provide answers to three research questions which formed the guide while a descriptive survey design was applied with a population of 203 which stood as the total number of masters' degree theses produced by the four universities within the period under study. The main instruments used in collecting data for this study were the researcher-designed checklists with which 8445 serials citations were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics of mode, mean and range and data presented in tables, charts and graphs using frequencies and percentile. The outcome of the study revealed that journals with 76% citations were the most cited against conference proceedings/reports with 20% and the least cited being government publications with only .5% citations. It was further established that multi authorship is the most cited authorship pattern in the graduates' theses whereas the average age of serials cited were within the age bracket of 0 - 18. The conclusion drawn is that with the most cited type(s) of serials, serials titles, ages of serials and preferred authorship pattern known through citations analysis of serials in research reports, the university librarian is better placed as to knowing which serials to select, acquire and how to have them organized for easy accessibility and retrieval by users as well as the amount of money to be earmarked for their acquisitions which invariably will bring about prudent management of the library budget in this period of shrinking budget for academic libraries. The study therefore recommended among other things that for effective application of serials citations analysis as a functional tool for effective serial management, staff of serials unit most partner documentation unit as to ensuring proper citations analysis of serials submitted to the library by every department as this can be used as a guide for the unit to identify the core serials for selections, acquisitions and also as a guide for total serials collections maintenance. The study investigated employability skills of library and information science (LIS) graduates as determinant for employment in university libraries in some selected university libraries in Nigeria. This study adopted the descriptive survey design. The population of the study consists of 6 heads of university libraries in South- South and South East, Nigeria. A self constructed questionnaire was used for the study. A total of 6 copies of the questionnaire were distributed and retrieved using descriptive statistics mean and percentage mean score of 2.5 and above and percentage score of 50% were considered as acceptable. The study revealed that four employability skills required from LIS graduates for employment in the university libraries under study as critical thinking, creativity and imagination, communication and information management and willingness to learn. The study also shows the leaning methods students will find most helpful in facilitating relevant knowledge for employment as industrial training, campus debates, summer internship and part-time work. four (4) factors that affect employability skills of new LIS graduates includes the following as most of them unaware of the skills required by the labor market, inflate and underestimate their employability skills, lack of self development while in school, and inability to learn practical's during industrial training. The study recommends that LIS students should ensure that they utilize the period of industrial training to develop the skills needed for employment, LIS students should develop themselves while in school and seek for part time jobs during summer holidays and LIS students should ensure they participate in campus activities such as debates and any other critical competitions in that would spur them to develop their employability skills respectively. Libraries information provision are able to provide and satisfy its diverse user's information needs timely and accurately. The librarian's unique professional duties of information delivery and services are valuable in the dissemination of information and resources to their clientele. This study aims at investigating the key roles of libraries and information profession for political development and stability in Nigeria. The paper was able to establish that Nigerian libraries are well placed to contribute meaningfully and effectively in political and developmental stability of the nation for a positive change, most especially to enlighten the populace on the political status of the nation. More so, there were emphasizing on the key areas of information provision and dissemination by libraries, such as provision of adequate political information, supporting educational development, Re-orientation of Nigerian political culture, provision of information materials, provision of open access to information, creation political awareness etc to the development of a nation politically stable. The study also highlighted some challenges confronting Nigerian libraries, such as insufficient visibility, epileptic/ total absence of power supply, lack of adequate professional advocacy by librarians themselves and funding. The strategies to enhance librarians' duty and librarianship as a profession were also discussed. This study examined cyberethics awareness and implications on library and information science(LIS) educators in selected universities in South-west Nigeria. A quantitative method was adopted along with a descriptive survey design; while 35 LIS educators drew through total enumeration from two universities in South-west Nigeria to represent the sample for the study. A questionnaire adapted from the previously related validated scales was used for the data collection. The research questions were developed and answered. The findings revealed that the LIS educators were aware of cyberethical issues, and the awareness is also very high. The LIS educators regularly participated in training on cyber technology, internet policy issues, cyber security and cyberethics. The LIS educators were very familiar with various types of cyberethical issues including intellectual property, fair use, illegal downloads and wrong copies of files and text, respecting others' opinions, and privacy concerns in the cyber environment. Based on the findings, the study recommends that the deliberate adoption of cyberethics as a stand-alone distinct course that will be part of the curriculum of LIS should be encouraged to further enhance the awareness of students. This study examined incorporating the Internet of Things (IoT) into the LIS curriculum in selected LIS schools in Southwest Nigeria. The study population comprised final-year students from the LIS Degree programme in Southwest Nigeria's Library and Information Science Department. A total enumeration of respondents was used for the research. Data generated were analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that the significant technology-related courses in the curriculum of LIS are basic computer operations, web publishing, document management and computer in libraries. Undergraduates positively perceived LIS curriculum preparedness for the Internet of Things (IoT). The major problems affecting the full implementation of technology-based courses of the LIS curriculum in selected LIS schools are shortage of funds, lack of infrastructure, unreliable power supply, inadequate learning resources and library support. The paper recommended an intervention by the Nigerian government to provide financial help to integrate the Internet of Things (IoT) into LIS schools and develop essential infrastructures that will enhance the hands-on experience for students. This study investigated the digital literacy skills of Library and Information Science undergraduates in South-West, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design, and questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. Sample size of one hundred and ninety-nine (199) was determined using Taro Yamane's (1973) formula and multi stage sampling technique was used for the selection of 199 respondents from 518 population of the study. Out of 199 copies of the questionnaire administered, 184 copies were retrieved and fit for data analysis resulting in a 93% response rate. Analysis was done using descriptive statistics. The result revealed that the level of digital literacy skills of the undergraduates was high. The study concluded that the level of digital literacy skills of Library and Information Science undergraduates in South-West, Nigeria, was high. It was recommended that the university faculties should leverage on this strength to enhance the teaching learning process by using the digital platforms to teach the students more often. The study investigated the use of social media networking sites and academic performance of Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduates in federal universities in Southern Nigeria. In carrying out this study, three research questions and one null hypotheses were tested at P < 0.05. Descriptive survey design was utilized for the study. The population for the study is 1,440 undergraduates in the Department of Library and Information Science in federal universities in Southern Nigeria. The total enumeration and accidental sampling techniques were used for this study. The instruments used for this study were a questionnaire with the title "Usage of Social Networking Sites and Academic Performance Questionnaire (USNSAPQ)" and the Cumulative Grade Point Average Scores of the undergraduates for 2015/2016 academic session. The data obtained were analysed, using frequency, mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistic. Findings revealed that the academic performance of undergraduates in LIS was in good standing. The reasons for undergraduates' usage of social networking sites were to communicate and interact with friends, to send and receive messages from friends, to read news update, to be informed about social events and for leisure/entertainment. Undergraduates never made use of social networking sites for academic purposes. It was further revealed that there was no significant relationship between usage of social networking sites and academic performance of undergraduates. The study recommended among others that orientation, workshop and seminar should be organized by librarians and university authorities on the use of social media sites for academic purpose. Knowledge cannot be separated from the people holding it and the best way to make it appreciated is to present it in a way that represents the beliefs, customs and norms of its origin. This submission makes this paper attempts to find the perfect word between indigenisation and decolonisation as a way of developing Indigenous Librarianship in Nigeria. It settles for indigenisation because indigenisation focuses on the exploitation of the native, local resources to create, share, transform and retain knowledge. It ponders on the historical antecedents of Librarianship in Nigeria to proof that the Nigerian library practices were purely nurtured in the waters of colonialism. It argues that since the practices of Librarianship within any culture are not universal, though they may be normative within that culture, the practices of Indigenous Librarianship can be used for reflecting culturally conditioned notions of the Nigerian IK and its representations through the Nigerian Librarianship. It suggests bibliographic citation and compilation, cataloguing and classification and library automation as areas of Librarianship that can be indigenised. It concludes that libraries thrived in societies where their practices are hinged on IK and recommends that Nigerian librarians should devise a system of describing, codifying and representing local knowledge and its channels of communication in a way that depicts their original contents as against the artificial description and representation imposed on them by the foreign subject organisation and document description schemes. Web marketing of library resources and services has become a global trend because of it's potential to bridge the awareness gap that usually exists between user communities and available resources/services. This study assessed the marketing features of Nigerian university library websites with emphasis on six (6) elements of (visibility, information, networking, consultation services, online services and online resources). The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised all the one hundred and ninety seven (197) NUC accredited universities in Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was employed to select 50 university libraries with dedicated websites. Observation checklist was used for data collection. Data was analyzed using frequency count and simple percentages. Findings revealed that, the library websites are doing well in the marketing features of visibility, information, consultation services and online resources. However, their performance in the areas of networking and online services is not satisfactory. The study concluded that, although Nigerian university library websites possess moderate marketing features, there is need for improvement in their use for networking and offering of online services in order to ensure their maximum utilization for marketing purpose. Hence, the study recommends among others that, IT experts with librarianship background should be employed to handle university library website development and management to ensure the integration of all relevant marketing features from time to time. The paper examined the challenges of maintenance of paper based archival information materials and strategies for enhancement in academic libraries in South East, Nigeria which doubled as the objectives of the study. Descriptive survey research method was used for the study. The population consisted of 277 library staff in academic libraries of government owned institutions. Questionnaire and structured interview guide was used to collect data which was analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to analyze data generated for the two research questions while ttest was used for the hypothesis. Real limits of numbers were used to determine the bench mark. The major findings of the study showed the challenges involved in maintenance of archival materials to include inadequate funding and tropical climate that breeds insects. The strategies involved in archival maintenance practices include: recruiting adequate personnel in libraries, provision of maintenance policies, adequate funding of libraries for proper maintenance of archives, proper control of insect by the use of insecticides and adequate training of maintenance personnel. The hypothesis tested revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean ratings between the male and female library staff in respect to strategies for maintenance practices of paper based archival paper materials in the academic libraries. The paper recommended that the library administrators should engage qualified and competent staff on the field of Library and Information Science and ICT to ensure adequate maintenance of archival materials in academic libraries. Reading a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning is an essential skill for academic success. This implies that in any institution of higher learning a lot of readings are done on all programmes by students for them to excel academically. This study therefore examined student-librarians' reading preference considering the fact that today students are exposed to two main reading material, print materials and electronic materials. The study employed a descriptive survey method with a student-librarian population of 120 randomly selected from four federal universities offering library and information science in Nigeria. The study was guided by three research questions while the main instrument used for data collection was a four-point Likert Scale structured questionnaire validated by three experts two from the department of library and information science and one from the department of educational measurement and evaluation. The data collected were presented in tables and charts analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The outcome of the study did show that despite the emergence of information and communication technologies (ICTs) which have transformed the way information resources are accessed as a result of digitalization of most information materials, student-librarians in Nigeria still preferred reading print materials to electronic materials (e-materials) though they showed acceptability for electronic resources. It was based on the finding that the following recommendations were made; librarians should as a matter of need go for hybrid collections (i.e. both print and electronic format of information sources) and student-librarians as librarians in the making should from the start be exposure to electronic literacy skills so as to gain adeptness in the use of electronic information resources. LIS education is more concerned with training in librarianship. LIS education aimed at producing competent librarians to manage all types of libraries in the countries of the world for sustainability. Other information related disciplines such as documentation, archives and records management were relatively unknown when they started existing, thus, they were not accorded prominence. However, librarianship in Africa owes its origin to colonialism. Colonialism introduced reading and writing among the indigenous people. Until then, the two activities were alien. Colonial governments introduced Western education which entailed among others, reading and writing. In an attempt to boost the two activities, a need was felt to provide the new literates with information materials, basically books, to further their reading and writing skills which brought about the establishment of Library Schools in Africa. Thus, UNESCO played a leading role in the establishment of LIS education programmes in Africa and in particular Anglophone sub-Saharan Africa. The pressure emanated from public libraries. UNESCO was convinced that illiteracy in sub-Saharan Africa could only be eradicated with the support of libraries. A number of regional seminars were held between 1953 and 1963 on the African continent to sensitize colonial governments on the need to establish public libraries in their colonies to speed up socio-economic development, thus, library schools were established in Africa to sustain library practices The history of Library Education was traced in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. The paper concluded that the existing ICT laboratories in all library schools in Africa should be well equipped, while the library schools without laboratories should be encouraged to establish one by training efficient manpower to manage and coordinate the established libraries in Africa and the yet-to-be established ones in order to sustain library practices. Adequate laboratories would enhance the provision of adequate and efficient practical and the acquisition of IT skills. The paper discussed the employment of competitive intelligence for improving patronage of the 21st century academic libraries. It explored literature on; the concept of competitive intelligence, characteristics of the twenty first century academic library, attributes of competitive advantage in academic libraries and competitive intelligence activities in Nigerian academic libraries. It was discovered that funds and the necessary skill-sets were required for an academic library to develop to the point of having a competitive edge over other libraries. Also literature revealed that only few libraries especially private university libraries were already treading the path of gaining the competitive advantage for attracting increased patronage. The paper concluded that having competitive advantage is a function of better application of knowledge gained through competitive intelligence as a major factor for staying relevant and be able to attract the 21st century academic sophisticated library clientele. Also adequate provision of funds for innovation and upscale facilities and services is key to attracting patrons. The study is a preliminary survey that investigated the perception of the value of library and information science (LIS) degree and side business practices among Library and Information Science professionals in Nigeria. The study employed survey as the design using a combination of web-based and hard copy questionnaire to elicit information from 176 working librarians in academic libraries in Nigeria. The study was guided by four objectives. Quantitative analyses were carried out on the data. This consisted of descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages. The Results revealed that the librarians perceive a high value of LIS degree. The majority of them engage in one side business or another. However, the side business engagements of the librarians are mostly in the traditional core librarianship areas while opportunities in information and communication technology (ICT) are not maximally exploited as a result of skills inadequacies. Obstacles that hinder the librarians from engaging in side businesses as well as the strategies that can be employed to enhance engagement in side businesses are identified. It was recommended among others that librarians should acquire or upgrade their skills in ICT to be able to take up the opportunities that it offers for engaging in entrepreneurial activities. The study investigated acquisition of 21st century librarianship skills by librarians in public university libraries in Bayelsa and Rivers States of Nigeria. Specifically, the study assessed the kinds of 21st century librarianship skills, skills acquisition methods and skills acquisition challenges acquired/adopted/encountered by the librarians. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised sixty-six (66) librarians of five public university libraries in Bayelsa and Rivers States of Nigeria. The study did not carry out sampling because the population was small and manageable. The instrument for data collection was the Survey Monkey version of an online questionnaire. The instrument was validated by two experts in the Department of Library and Information Science in Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State. The researcher distributed sixty-six soft copies of the draft of the validated questionnaire to the librarians via social media platforms such as whatsapp groups of the surveyed university libraries, state chapter whatsapp groups of the Nigerian Library Association to which the librarians belong, librarians' personal whatsapp accounts and email addresses. Fifty-three (53) questionnaires were properly completed by the librarians and returned, resulting in a response rate of 80.30%. The data collected were transferred into Google sheets and analyzed by means of weighted mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that emailing, word processing, internet surfing skills/digital literacy and social networking skills were the 21st century librarianship skills acquired by the librarians. Furthermore, it showed that colleagues' assistance and training at work place were the methods adopted by the librarians in acquiring 21st century librarianship skills. Finally, it indicated that poor funding of libraries, lack of funds to develop oneself, poor ICT infrastructure, managerial negative attitude to personnel development and non-availability of digital library courses in Library and Information Science curriculum were the challenges the librarians encountered in acquiring 21st century librarianship skills. The study suggested that university library management should organize internal and external digital training programmes for their personnel and the National Universities Commission should collaborate with Library and Information Science (LIS) Departments in Nigeria to fine-tune the LIS curriculum to reflect 21st century librarianship skills and practice. This study investigated continuing professional Development as a medium in the empowerment of library and information science Educators for effective knowledge delivery and sustainable Education in south East Nigeria. Five research questions guided the study. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study consisted of 282 library information science educators in five selected federal universities in South East, Nigeria. The validated instrument was trial tested using 20 respondent which comprises of 15 female library information science Educators (LISE) and5 male LISE which was outside the study area. The study investigated influence of information literacy skills on infopreneurship intentions of Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduates in public universities in South-West Nigeria. Two theories supported the study, namely; the theory of planned behaviour and the big six information literacy model. The Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and population comprised 668 LIS undergraduates in their final year (400 level) across three public universities in South-West Nigeria. Total enumeration technique was used to cover all the target respondents. An adapted questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. Five hundred and eighty responses were returned from the online google form sent to 668 respondents, representing 86.8% response rate. Findings revealed that there was a positive and significant correlation between information literacy skills and infopreneurship intentions of LIS undergraduates in public universities in South-West Nigeria (t=7.765; B=0.294; p<0.05). The study concluded that information literacy skills are critical variables that can predict and facilitate positive infopreneurship intentions among LIS undergraduates in public universities in South-West Nigeria and recommended among others that public universities in Nigeria should explore the idea of equipping LIS undergraduates with the requisite information literacy skills to facilitate start-up of information businesses after graduation. Career commitment of librarians in Nigeria university libraries has been the subject of discussion among the administrators of university libraries as a result of unsatisfactory performance consistently noticed among librarians. There is a general expression of dissatisfaction by the users of the services rendered by the librarians. In response to this, some librarians have complained of job related problems such as poor infrastructure to support information delivery, lack of prompt promotion, poor conditions of service and lack of recognition, all of which may culminate in poor job satisfaction and a general lack of commitment to librarianship as a profession. However, there is paucity of research on librarians' career commitment in university libraries in South-west, Nigeria. Therefore, the study investigated job satisfaction and work motivation as correlates of career commitment of librarians in Universities in South-west, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to: (i) determine career commitment traits among librarians in the universities in South-west, Nigeria; (ii) investigate the level of job satisfaction of librarians in universities in South-west, Nigeria; and (iii) determine the level of work motivation of librarians in universities in South-west, Nigeria. Survey research design of correlational type was adopted for the study. Total enumeration technique was used to cover a study population of 295 librarians working in the universities in Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo States, Nigeria. Questionnaire was used for data collection. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study were that: i career commitment traits of librarians are affective, continuance and normative. Affective ranked highest (x =4.27), normative (x =4.03) and continuance (x =3.71) respectively; ii positive significant relationship existed between job satisfaction and career commitment of librarians (r =.435, N=220, p(.0001)< .05); iii positive significant relationship existed between work motivation and career commitment of librarians (r =.345, N=220, p(.0001)< .05); and The study concluded that job satisfaction and work motivation have positive correlation with career commitment of librarians in the universities in South-west, Nigeria. This study investigated the relationship between Library and Information Science Professional Skills and Entrepreneurial Intention among Undergraduates of Universities Cross River States and University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Correlational survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 284 undergraduates and this was also used as sample. A validated research-made questionnaire with reliability range of 0.71-0.79 was used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis showed that acquisition of the following variables: indexing skills and abstracting skills were significantly related to entrepreneurial intention. Researchers in institutions of higher learning are required to conduct researches that will expand the frontiers of knowledge, drive innovation in industries, and the economy at large. Consequently, research has become an integral component of a university's curriculum. However, there is an 'assumption' that undergraduates possess requisite research skills at the end of their training due to their exposure to research. To ascertain this, this study investigated the perceived research skills of graduating Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduates in a Nigerian University of Education. The study is a survey of the ex post facto type. Total enumeration was used to capture all one hundred and eighty (180) graduating LIS undergraduates. Out of the one hundred and eighty (180) questionnaires administered, only one hundred (160) questionnaires were returned and found useful for the study. The findings revealed that the LIS graduating students perceive themselves as possessing a high level of general research skills such as information seeking, methodological, and research communication skills. However, their problem solving and evaluation skills as well as their statistical or quantitative skill were perceived as moderate. The male graduating undergraduates also showed a higher positive perception of their research skills than their female counterparts. The study concludes on a predictive implication that the graduating students are likely to perform well in research-related jobs or professions in the future. The study thus recommends lecturers to motivate students towards being committed when involved in research and to gradually build the quantitative/statistical analytical skills of the students before they get to the final year of study. The prime purpose of this study is to find out the research productivity of three regions Nigeria, Pakistan, and India. The bibliometric quantification was used to analyze the data. The present research identifies the importance of this online journal. The study discloses frequency of publication growth, author's collaborations, papers length, and most cited papers, most productive authors, and total references used. Design/methodology/approach The survey method was used to find out the full-text research articles on the online database of LPP. The Google scholar was used to retrieve the citations. All the collected data has been analyzed using MS excel and other electronic devices. Findings The results of this study indicate that in the year 2008 to 2013. The contribution of Nigerian authors is more than the other two nations that are 226 while Indian comes 2nd with 193 research papers and Pakistan comes 3rd with 67 research articles from the studied period in the wellknown journal of Library and information science field that is LPP. The present study revealed the majority of the research articles were single authors from Nigeria 114, Pakistan 18, and India 80. The study results show that the majority of the paper length in the range of 6-10 Nigerian 116, Pakistan 34, and India 70 respectively. The study showed the total references were calculated 4140 from Nigeria, 1506 Pakistan, and 3243 from Indian. The most cited paper was retrieved by a Nigerian paper that is 197 citations. The analyzed data shows the most productive authors were Rubina Bhatti from Pakistan with 18 research papers. This study contributes to the existing literature of three-nation contributions to the Library Philosophy and practice throughout the year. This is the first study of three-nation research productivity in the well-known online journal library philosophy and practice. Limitations of the study The present study was limited to the well-known LIS Journal and research articles specifically published at online journal library philosophy and practice. This study is purely limited to the research productivity of Nigerian, Pakistani, and Indian authors to the Library Philosophy and Practice from 2008 to 2013. This study examined the correlation between academics skill to apply legal and ethical issues of information and utilization of digital library resources in federal universities in Southern, Nigeria. The study adopted correlational research design. The population of the study comprises 6,653 academics with a sample size of 665 academics, selected through proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Instruments for data collection were cognitive test for skill to apply ethical use of information and questionnaire used for utilization of digital library resources. The instruments were validated by three lecturers, one in department of Educational foundations and two in the Department of Library and information Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Kuder-Richadson was used to establish the reliability for skill to apply legal and ethical issues of information, yielding the score 0.81 and Cronbach alpha for questionnaire yielding 0.81. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. In testing the hypotheses, P value was used to determine the Level of significance at 0.05 apha level. Result show low positive correlation between academics skill to apply ethical and legal issues of information and utilization of digital library resources. The hypotheses were rejected, indicating a significant relationship between skill to apply ethical and legal issues of information and utilization of digital library resources. It was recommended that University Management and library management should join together to continuously educate their academic staff on ethics and legal issues in the utilization of information. Scientometrics is an effective method to quantitatively analyse the productivity and progress of all forms of written communication. This study aims to examine the scientific research productivity of Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal) for a selected period of 22 years between 1998 and 2019. Required data pertaining to this study under various parameters were collected from Scopus database. Further, analysis was carried out under various dimensions to measure the year wise distribution of articles published during the selected period, its relative growth rate, doubling time, collaboration coefficient, country and affiliation wise distribution of articles and its citation patterns etc. The findings of the study revealed that the highest numbers of articles were published in the year 2019 and the lowest appeared in the year 1998. In the year 2013, there was no single article of the journal indexed in Scopus database. The country wise distribution of articles showed that the highest contribution of 33.52% made from Nigeria, while the institution wise distribution indicated that the University of Ibadan was rated as the highest research producer. Analysis also revealed that the average citation per paper during the selected period was 1.51. Authors found from the analysis that the publication title 'Using Google Analytics for improving library website content and design: A case study' authored by Fang W. received a citation of 67 and ranked as the highly cited paper during the period of study. Aim: The aim of this article was to highlight the experiences of Library and Information Science (LIS) educators in integrating strategies in library schools, examine the outcome of the experiences, identify the lessons learnt and ascertain the implications of the findings. Methods: This was a report of LIS Educators in Nigerian Library Schools. The activities were carried out in Madonna University, Nigeria and Ignatius Aguru University of Education, Rumuorlumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Fifteen LIS educators were involved in the activity. The method used were dialogues, focal group discussion, talk shows and presentation. The strategies were implemented from 2017 to 2019. Results: It was shown that LIS educators incorporated world book day, world literacy day, world language day, human rights anniversary, IFLA global vision, motivational and ICT trainings into the curriculum. The streaming and initiating of these activities stimulated interest in career charting of students as well as attracted more recognition and acknowledgement to LIS departments. The lessons learnt included craving from students and colleagues for more engaging programs, admiration from other departments and awareness creation for inclusive learning program. Conclusion: There is need to re-strategize the trainings and curriculum in library schools in order to remain relevant with global trends in information service. Therefore, updating the trainings and LIS education are very important in building vibrant career ready professionals. LIS is a serious business and the educators must keep the motor of change moving with stimulating dialogue and practices. Purpose- The purpose of this paper is to analyze bibliometrics and visualization of Library Philosophy and Practice (LPP). Design/methodology/approach-Scopus citation database was used to gather the data. Using advanced search in the database, bibliographic data of the articles published in the journal over the past twenty years were extracted. Then, the analysis was performed using bibliometric indicators and some applications, such as Microsoft Excel and VOS viewer. Findings- The data indicated that the process of publications (R²=0.69) and citations received by papers (R²=0.85) was ascending. The paper of W. Fang (2007), "Using Google analytics for improving library website content and design: A case study", is the most highly cited paper of LPP. Bhatti, R. (19 papers), Nigeria (549 papers), University of Ibadan (78 papers) are the most productive and influential authors, universities, and countries in LPP, respectively. Keyword clustering of published papers indicates that the most frequent keywords can fall into five clusters and the first and most important cluster is "bibliometrics study". In addition, the analysis of references of LPP articles showed that "Library Philosophy and Practice" "Scientometrics", and "The Electronic Library" are the top journals, Aina, I., Wilson, T.D.O., and Mahmood, K. are the top authors cited in LPP. Practical implications- The bibliometrics analysis and LPP visualization can be a useful for either library and information science (LIS) scholars or the people interested in bibliometric studies; therefore, they can use it as a pattern to review other journals. Originality/value- This study suggests a general outlook for the performance of an international LIS journal using bibliometric indicators and visualization. This study investigates the factors influencing the career choice of library and information science students in Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State. The major objectives of this study was to find out the factors that influence the choice of librarianship as a career among students, the level of students perception towards library and information science as a career and to find a way out on how library and information science can become a reputable discipline in the society. A total number of 127 newly admitted students into LIS were purposely chosen. Enumerative sampling techniques were adopted. Structured questionnaire were used for data collection. Findings of the study revealed that students were influenced based on their personal interest in the course 78(70.9%), to seek for knowledge 77(70.0%) and Career expectation 60(54.5%). The study also find out that the students level of perception towards choosing librarianship as a career, and it was indicated that Library and information science is a lucrative field 95(86.4%), Library and information science is a professional course 93(84.6%), it offers job security 76(69.1%) and they will like to further their career in librarianship 60(54.5%). Furthermore the study found out that librarianship as a career should be introduced to secondary schools curriculum in Nigeria 99(90.0%). This study examines marketing library and information services in academic libraries. Specific objectives includes; the need for marketing library and information services in university libraries in South West Nigeria; techniques being employed by university libraries in marketing of library and information services; competencies required of librarians in marketing of library and information services; challenges being faced by the librarians in marketing of library and information services and strategies for enhancing marketing of library and information services in South West Nigeria. Relevant literatures were reviewed. Survey research design was adopted. The target population for the study comprises of all librarians in university libraries in South West Nigeria. Six (6) university libraries were selected based on proximity to researchers. There are a total of eighty-seven (87) librarians in the Six (6) selected university libraries; Out of eighty-seven (87) questionnaires distributed, only sixty-four (64) copies were returned. Data collected through the distributed questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics. In other words tables, frequency counts, simple percentage and mean were used to analyze the data. The finding shows that; techniques being employed in marketing library and information services are; provision of electronic access to information, staff friendliness to users, exhibitions and display of new arrivals, creating a library web page, organizing user education, and one on one discussion with users. Competencies required of librarians in marketing library and information services as perceived by the respondents are; good communication skills, information technology skills, ability to answer users' query, ability to sell idea/library services, ability to question and evaluate library services as well as interpersonal skills. Major challenges militating against effective marketing of library and information services are; inadequate fund, management lack of marketing policy, lack of facilities to market library services, lack of media access to market academic library services, poor access to information technology, lack of training in marketing, and lack of effective communication between librarians and users. The aim of the study is to carry out a citation analysis of ten most prolific academic scholars in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) in Nigeria and also determine their authorship pattern. Google scholar database was used in searching for articles published from 2000 to May, 2018. Ten academic researchers in the field of LIS in Nigeria were studied. Results from the analysis show that, Tella, Adeyinka with 72 articles had a total of 1,740 citations and is the most cited author among the ten most prolific authors in the field of Library and Information Science in Nigeria, followed by Adomi, E. Esharenana with 904 citations from 47 articles, and Nwagwu, E. Williams with 684 citations from 70 articles. The authorship patterns of the publications revealed that majority of the articles were co-authored papers. Further analysis showed that the degree of collaboration among the researchers was high. The correlation of the most cited articles with most cited journals revealed the Library Philosophy & Practice as the most cited journal. The study calls for authorities in institutions and editors of local journals to find solutions to the inclusion of local journals in international indexing and abstraction databases to present a realistic picture of scholarly publications. Study analyses scientometric assessment of LIS research performance of OPEC member countries. The research publication data indexed in Scopus for the OPEC member countries were extracted and used for the analysis. The data are analyzed to identify quantitative research performance of OPEC member countries in terms of total documents, citable documents, and non-citable documents. The citation impact is measured by different parameters, like total citations, citations per document, Relative Citation Impact, self-citations, and self-citations per document. Finally, the quality of the document is assessed by means of h-index. Nigeria has been found to be most productive country in LIS research and Iran is receiving highest citations and also in h-index performance amongst OPEC member countries. Knowledge management can be closely linked with activities that overlapped with library practices. Lack of credence on how this two concept interwoven makes library and information science professionals to held distinct understanding of the concept knowledge management, most especially on how it relate to librarianship and information management, and at that, that there is no unity of consensus on which knowledge management definition should be considered universally acceptable. The study adopted a survey research design in exploring the perception and attitude of library and information science professionals in Nigeria toward knowledge management. Certified librarians in Nigeria (CLNs) constitute the unit of analysis and their total population stood at 5,437 from which a sample size of 3,000 was drawn using clustered random sampling techniques. Questionnaire is the instrument for data collection which was administered on a web-based platform, Proprofs survey maker (www.proprofs.com). But due to difficulties associated with web-based questionnaire, Only 389 participants respond to the survey, and a total number of usable, fully completed questionnaire is 369. Collected data was subjected to descriptive statistical analysis. The study reported that LIS professionals in Nigeria perceived knowledge management as an allied field of study that expands the horizon of the profession, even though some still perceived it as another name for information management or librarianship in another cloth/case of old wine in new bottle. Most participants prefer IFLA definition of KM to other definitions. In order to embrace the opportunities and as well curb the threats of knowledge management to library and information science profession, the study suggested that regulatory bodies and library associations should educate professionals on the position of LIS professionals in knowledge management through seminars, research report, conference proceedings, symposiums and any other means at their disposal. The purpose of the study is to examine educators' perception of accreditation processes in university-based library and information science schools in south-east, Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted. The sample size comprises 38 library and information science educators working in the selected university-based library schools in South-east, Nigeria. The questionnaire was used for data collection. The generated data were analyzed using mean rating. Inadequacy of funds, shortage of qualified personnel, poorly equipped laboratory, shortage of teaching staff at the professorial cadre, lack of well equipped practical laboratory and non-participation of LRCN in accreditation process affect the accreditation of universitybased library schools in the south-east zone. The paper concludes that state of accreditation process in university-based library schools is worrisome. There is a dire need to restructure the accreditation processes of university-based library schools and bring various stakeholders in librarianship into the streamline. Adequate funding of library schools, involvement of LRCN in accreditation of library schools, recruitment of qualified lecturers and engaging in exchange/collaboration programme were recommended. In this information age, it is observed that, as the quantity of information grows the ability of individuals to search and retrieve the needed information decreases in a dramatically manner, which implies that our information retrieval activitylacks effectiveness. It assumed that some factors should be responsible; however, there is no empirical evidence that predict or determine information retrieval effectiveness. This study examined predictors of information retrieval effectiveness among Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduate students in universities in Kwara State, Nigeria;considered correlation among the predictors of information retrieval effectiveness, identify the best predictive factor of information retrieval effectiveness, and the problems militating against information retrieval effectiveness.A simple random sampling selection of 160 undergraduate students from two universities represent the sample for the study. Through a survey approach, questionnaire was developed and used for the collection of data. Four research questions were developed to guide the study. The results demonstrated that inter-correlation exist among the independent variables/factors and Information Retrieval Effectiveness;in addition factors such as emotional intelligence, internet self-efficacy, and use of Boolean search operators significantly correlate with and predict information retrieval effectiveness. Similarly, computer self-efficacy has the highest predictive value compare to other variables while emotional intelligence has the least predictive value of information retrieval effectiveness. Based on the findings, the study recommend that, LIS students should be more Computer self-efficacious so that they can be more effective in their information retrieval activities. It was also suggested that students should engage themselves in self-efficacy and computer training.
