This paper analyzes 1078 India's publications on suicide research during 10 years, i.e., 2005-2014, as indexed in Scopus International Multidisciplinary Database. The study focuses on the various aspects of performance of India's suicide research, such as the publication growth, citation impact, international collaboration, subject-wise distribution of publications, contribution and citation impact of Indian organizations and authors, medium of communication, and characteristics of its high-cited papers. This study reveals that India's research output on suicides research witnessed an annual average growth rate of 10.49%, registered an average citation impact per paper of 9.75, and a share of 16.23% of international collaborative publications. India's global publication and share to world suicide research was 2.47% during 1999-2014. Medicine contributed the largest publication share of 84.32%, followed by pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmaceutics and social sciences (19.94%), environment science (9.37%), biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology (8.35% share), psychology (7.05% share), neuroscience (4.36% share), economics, econometrics, and finance (2.23% share), and immunology and microbiology (1.95% share) during 2005-2014. About 294 organizations and 356 authors participated in 1078 Indian papers in suicide research, of which the top 15 most productive Indian organizations and authors together contributed 36.18% and 17.44% publications share and 49.58% and 56.06% citation share to the India's publications and citation output on suicide research during 2005-2014. This study also suggests the need for taking up of measures at population, sub-population, and individual levels to prevent suicide and suicide attempts. Suicide is a complex issue and therefore suicide prevention efforts require coordination and collaboration among multiple sectors of society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FALSE positive error , *NOBEL Prizes , *EVALUATION research - Abstract
Research evaluation based on citation data identifies excellence using quantity and quality proxies as the main orthogonal dimensions. Citation data are readily available from aggregators such as the Web of Science or Scopus in the form of number of papers P, number of citations C and h-index. However, most of the prestigious award-giving bodies, e.g. for the Nobel Prizes or for the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize in India, rely on rigorous peer evaluation rather than on citationbased performance. While peer-review judgements are holistic but also subjective, citation-based evaluations tend to be reductive and quantitative. In this study, we look at three of the most prestigious premier peer-review decision-making exercises in India, the SSB Prize, and election Fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru. By comparing the awardees and successfully elected Fellows against a list of outstanding citation-based top performers in the world, we report a marked field dependence with citation data predicting 0% to less than 40% of the peer-review selections depending on the field. This study highlights two mixed dangers: one of compressing performance to numbers in an essentially reductive process, and the other of the possible bias and prejudices involved in what is often a subjective peer-review process. Thus, type I and type II errors cannot be avoided in any peer-review or citation evaluation taken in isolation, and vary from as much as 100% to 63%, depending on the field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To determine the quality of reporting in the proceedings of the All India Ophthalmological Conference (AIOC) 2000, subsequent rate of publication in an indexed journal and differences between the proceedings and the journal version of these papers., Design: Observational study., Materials and Methods: All papers presented at the AIOC 2000 were retrieved from the proceedings and assessed for completeness of reporting. To determine the subsequent full publication, a Medline search was performed as of January 2007; consistency between the proceedings paper and the final publication was evaluated., Statistical Analysis: Chi square and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare publication rates based on geographical location, subspecialty and study design; Student's t -test was used to compare differences based on the number of authors and sample size., Results: Two hundred papers were retrieved; many failed to include study dates, design or statistical methods employed. Thirty-three (16.5%) papers were subsequently published in indexed journals by January 2007. The published version differed from the proceedings paper in 27 (81.8%) instances, mostly relating to changes in author name, number or sequence., Conclusions: The overall quality of reporting of scientific papers in the proceedings of the AIOC 2000 was inadequate and many did not result in publication in an indexed journal. Differences between the published paper in journals and in proceedings were seen in several instances. Ophthalmologists should be cautious about using the information provided in conference proceedings in their ophthalmic practice.

An analysis of 2899 papers published by Indian scientists during 1991-2008 and indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) indicates that the growth of publication output was slow in the initial stages, which started increasing after 2000. The highest output was in the sub-field of molecular genetics. The organisms which received the maximum priority were humans, plants, and animals. A significant proportion of papers were published in journals that originated from the advanced countries of the West and in journals with impact factor >1. About 47% papers were cited more than 5 times. Academic institutions contributed the highest number of papers but had less impact as compared to other performing sectors. The papers published by Indian Council of Agriculture Research had the lowest impact. Among the institutions, Madras University had the highest impact, while Indian Veterinary Research Institute had the lowest impact. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: Tuberculosis continues to become a serious public-health concern in many countries despite efforts to prevent and control global tuberculosis infections. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study aims to present bibliometric analysis of the period 1849-2020 tuberculosis publications that are published by global researchers and indexed in the Scopus database. Although many studies have been carried out on tuberculosis, there is no study that performs bibliometric analysis of publications in this field in such a wide range of dates. Tuberculosis publications searched in the Scopus database between the period 1849-2020 were analyzed. Data on tuberculosis were presented by analyzing the number of publications, the language of publication, the countries that contribute the most to the literature, the most active institutions, the most cited publications, active authors and active journals, using appropriate quantitative and qualitative bibliometric indicators. RESULTS: 263,234 articles, published between 1849 and 2020 and searched in the Scopus database, were evaluated. The most articles (n= 8.344) were published in 2020. A total of 112,121 articles were published between 2001 and 2020. The most used publication language in the articles was English (62.48%), followed by Russian (7.25%). The country that contributed the most to the literature was the United States (13.81%), followed by India (7.18%). 3.9% of the articles were published in the journal "Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases". CONCLUSION: The results of the present bibliometric study are expected to shed light on the planning of future tuberculosis studies and the development of health policies toward tuberculosis. Research output is low in some countries, which should make larger investments in international and national collaborative research projects in the field of tuberculosis. If doing so, many countries of limited source will benefit from research that offer novel diagnostic and screening technology of tuberculosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Backgroud and Aims: Conference presentations provide an opportunity to rapidly share findings of new research despite limitations of details and reach. Earlier studies have examined publication rates of conference presentations in anesthesia. However, conversion rate of neuroanesthesia meeting presentations to publications is unknown. We assessed the publication rate of neuroanesthesia conference presentations from India over a 5‑year period and identified factors contributing to subsequent publications. Material and Methods: Conference abstracts of the Indian Society of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care (ISNACC) from 2014 to 2018 were studied with regard to conversion to full‑length publications. Details of presentations were obtained from abstracts published in the journal of ISNACC and details of publications were collected by searching Google and PubMed using title and author details. Results: Only 17.5% (40/229) of the abstracts presented at ISNACC conferences over a 5‑year period resulted in subsequent full‑text publications in peer‑reviewed journals. Prospective cohort studies (OR [95% CI] 2.84 [1.05–8.56], P = 0.048), randomized trials (OR [95% CI] 2.69 [1.04 to 7.9], P = 0.053), and abstracts from public institutions (OR [95% CI] 3.44 [1.4 to 10.42], P = 0.014) were significantly associated with publications after conference presentations. Conclusion: The conversion rate of conference presentations of neuroanesthesia society of India into journal publications is significantly low. There is need for neuroanesthesia community of India to work together to improve the translation of presentations into publications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have carried out a three-part study comparing the research performance of Indian institutions with that of other international institutions. In the first part, the publication profiles of various Indian institutions were examined and ranked based on the h-index and p-index. We found that the institutions of national importance contributed the highest in terms of publications and citations per institution. In the second part of the study, we looked at the publication profiles of various Indian institutions in the high-impact journals and compared these profiles against that of the top Asian and US universities. We found that the number of papers in these journals from India was miniscule compared to the US universities. Recognizing that the publication profiles of various institutions depend on the field/departments, we studied the publication profiles of many science and engineering departments at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, the Indian Institutes of Technology, as well as top Indian universities. Because the number of faculty in each department varies widely, we have computed the publications and citations per faculty per year for each department. We have also compared this with other departments in various Asian and US universities. We found that the top Indian institution based on various parameters in various disciplines was IISc, but overall even the top Indian institutions do not compare favourably with the top US or Asian universities. The author reflects on the quality of biomedical journals in India. He relates that though Indian doctors are excelling in medical science both in India and abroad, their science and technology journals are not up to the international standard. He argues that one reason why many Indian medical journals do not meet the international mark and eventually not being included in global databases is because it lacks an impact factor. He is also critical of the growth of flawed research papers which cause anxiety to journal editors all over the world.

Background: Bibliometric analysis of the journal is a method to assess the research impact or research influence of that journal. This information can also be used to evaluate the influence/performance of a researcher and to provide a comparison between researchers. This work was aimed at performing bibliometric analysis of Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism (IJEM). Materials and Methods: The publications of year 2011-12 of IJEM were analyzed. Total number of articles published, type of articles, their authorship, and the coverage of various subspecialties was studied. The publications were also classified as Indian or foreign, from endocrine or nonendocrine departments and from academic or nonacademic institutions according to the institution of first author. Results and Conclusions: A total of 10 main issues and 7 supplementary issues were published in IJEM in year 2011 and 2012. These included a total of 605 publications, which depict a dramatic increase in the number of publications in last 2 years as compared to the previous years. Taking collectively, review articles were published in majority. Maximum number of articles was dealing with pancreas and metabolic disorders followed by thyroid. Other endocrine organs were given almost similar importance. Publications were largely originating from endocrine departments and from academic institutions. Although maximum number of articles were from India, but the publications from other countries are also on an increase. Thus, the widespread coverage of this journal suggests that IJEM has begun to represent global face of Indian endocrinology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite an increase in the number of India-focused articles appearing in leading international business journals, there has not been any attempt to conduct systematic reviews that can inform academicians and practitioners about research that has accumulated over the years and identify areas that may be worthwhile to pursue in the future. This article attempts to fill this gap by providing an overview of all publications focusing on the Indian context that appeared in seven leading international business journals between 1991 and 2008. Findings suggest that 74 publications involving 180 authors affiliated to 112 academic and six non-academic institutions from nine international locations contributed to the research by examining a wide variety of international business topics. Findings also reveal that authors affiliated to US-based institutions published more than others and the majority of top-cited publications appeared after 1995. Contributions of various authors and institutions are ranked and summaries of publication types, research methodologies, examined topics, and citations received by different articles are provided. This article concludes by suggesting avenues of future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
