The article assesses the reception of the life and work of Amália Sirotková (1813 - 1892), the first known Slovak woman collector of fairy tales whose collection of tales has been preserved in manuscript form. The paper points to significant discrepancies between information on A. Sirotková and her tales published in literature and facts based on available source materials. The author rigorously analyses the conclusions of researchers who wrote about A. Sirotková (Bohumil Haluzický, 1952; Karel Horálek, 1989), information included in Ľudovít V. Rizner's Bibliografia slovenského písomníctva ([Bibliography of Slovak literature], 1933), and the biographical entry on A. Sirotková in Slovenský biografický slovník ([Slovak biographical dictionary], 1993). The article revises the facts provided in these references in the context of the research of fairy tales in the 19th century. The aim of the article is to accentuate the necessity to work with primary sources which help avoid drawing conclusions based on nonfactual links. Such imprecisions occur especially when it comes to marginally known personalities with very few references in literature and result in a distorted literary-historical portrait which does not correspond to the facts. One T housand a nd O ne N ights i s a collection of fairy tales composed of a frame narrative and its surrounding tales. With their translation into Western languages, these tales, which represent Eastern literature in terms of their origin, became recognized in the West and occupied a prominent place in world literature. These tales have influenced and inspired numerous authors from both the East and West. It can be observed that a variety of literary works have directly or indirectly been nourished from this collection. Two famous and prolific Modern Arabic Literature authors, Tawfiq al-Hakim and Ali Ahmed Bakathir, also composed a play inspired by these tales. al-Hakim presented the reader with a fictional account of what occurred after the one thousand and first night in Scheherazade, one of his over seventy fictional theatrical works. Shahriar transformed into a completely different person through Scheherazade's tales in this work. This king, who had experienced all kinds of material pleasures in the past, now pursues knowledge and desires to transcend the limits of space. Bakathir, who contributed significantly to Arabic theater in addition to his poetry and novels, wrote over forty plays. One of these compositions, "Sırru Şehrâzâd", was inspired by the frame story of One Thousand and One Nights. By incorporating a contemporary interpretation into his work, the author transformed the frame story based on the infidelity of women into a new work of fiction. Accordingly, the first wife of Shahriar was portrayed as an innocent woman in the work Sırru Şehrâzâd, and the plot was based around this characterization. In this study, general information on the original One Thousand and One Nights was presented first, followed by a literary analysis of the aforementioned theater works by al-Hakim and Bakathir, and a comparison of the character of Scheherazade in the works of both authors. There are two types of joke that can be described as fairy tale jokes: those with punchlines that include fairy tale characters, and fairy tale parodies. The paper discusses fairy tale jokes that were sent to the jokes page of the major Estonian internet Web Portal Delfi by Internet users between 2000 and 2011, and jokes added by the editors of the portal between 2011 and 2018 (CFTJ). The joke corpus has had different addresses at different times, and was a live 'folklore field' for the first few years after creation. Of all the characters, the Goldfish appeared in the largest number of jokes (76 out of a total of 286 jokes), followed by Little Red Riding Hood (72). Other fairy tale characters feature in a 14 or fewer fairy tale jokes each. Several fairy tale jokes circulating on the Internet varied over the period observed. Fairy tale jokes generally get their impetus from the characters and from plots with unexpected outcomes. A seemingly innocent fairy tale character is often linked to a sexual theme: sexuality holds first place as the source of humour in fairy tale jokes, although this may be caused by the so-called genre code of jokes. The article focuses on understanding self identity in the fairy tales of George MacDonald through mortality and recognition. Topics discussed include the portrayal of self in the context of the mutable physical appearance in fairy tales, the support for their characters, and their static and kinetic appearances.

The paper looks at Shakespeare's historical play Richard III and its fairy tale-like character given by the configuration of the main character as an arch-villain and the presence of motifs and patterns typically associated with the fairy tale genre. More specifically, it considers the mother-son relationship between the Duchess of York and Richard in the light of the motif of monstrous birth. It is not a coincidence that the emergence of such motifs coincides with the historical contexts of the early modern period.
