Indian University Admission is a complex phenomenon encompassing various factors both tangible and intangible. Apart from Merit - Caste, Community and Religion play a crucial role in getting admission to various courses offered by Universities. The Single Window Admission System followed by almost all Government Universities (for example: Anna University, Chennai) is, so far, the best practice to offer Admission sought by student community. But, still, in Private Universities, the Admission process is done manually since number of students seeking a course is smaller in size. This manual process is fraught with some drawbacks: such as slower in time, cumbersome and costlier, bias by the Admission Officer, manual errors while processing, due to influence exercised by powerful people qualified students not getting their course of choice and unqualified students getting into their course of willingness and etc. This paper addresses these problems via neural network architecture based Admission system which will eliminate all the pitfalls and drawbacks inherent in the current system and offers a smooth, clearer, easier and cost effective way of student admission system implementation in Indian Universities. The article discusses the Common Admissions Test (CAT) 2010, a new and improved computerized qualifications test for the Indian Institute of Management's (IIM) four branches throughout the country. It states that until 2009, the CAT used to be paper-based, but was replaced in that year with the Computer Based Test (CBT). The new system developed problems, however, failing to operate at 11 centers. The new system is reportedly better, with all the glitches resolved, and the tests will take place over 20 days instead of the original 10.

The article features Ajit Joshi, district commissioner of Sonepat, Haryana and developer of Common Electoral Roll (CER), which replaced the paper records for India's voting process. It says that despite having a computer system in place, the country still used paper records which were time consuming and inefficient, which sometimes allowed people to vote twice. Joshi hired Persistent Systems to create a new program worth 95,000 rupees. With the new system, records can be entered in far less time and over 125,000 duplicate voters have been detected since.

Established in 2005, the KnowGenesis Online Library for Technical Communication (http://www.knowgenesis.org/tc) is India’s first online repository dedicated to accelerate knowledge sharing and promote self-learning in the field of technical communication. The Library is available free of cost, requiring a one-time free registration to access available material. The popularity and success rate of the Library can be determined by the fact that within a year of its launch, it not only attracted more than 24,000 visitors and gained more than 1,500 subscribers, but also increased the volume of the hosted content from a few documents to more than 2,000 important documents, presentations, tutorials and links. The KnowGenesis (KG) Library presents a unique case for repository designers to study the complex design and implementation process that contributed to the stability and overall success rate of the online Library. This paper not only shares the designing and implementation challenges faced by the KnowGenesis team, but also presents the approach used to match the user requirements with the Library design. Based on the lessons learned during the process, the paper also presents specific set of guidelines and recommends methodologies that can provide critical assistance for developing and managing medium and large-scale repositories. E-resources enable for innovation in teaching, enhance the timeliness in research, and increase in the discovery and creation of new fields of inquiry. E-resources are available on the Internet, databases and CDs / VCDs at a library, knowledge resource centers etc. Higher education institution and its library play a leading role in providing access to its members in promoting and using e-resources. Academic community, especially the faculty and the research scholars often prefer easy access to databases of online-refereed journals and to the web, which provide information that are minute, international in scope and sometimes not available elsewhere. This study aims to study the frequency, Availability and purpose of using CD-ROMs and Internet resources by the students in Amity University, Jaipur. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We assessed the potential of multi-spectral GeoEye imagery for biodiversity assessment in an urban context in Bangalore, India. Twenty one grids of 150 by 150 m were randomly located in the city center and all tree species within these grids mapped in the field. The six most common species, collectively representing 43% of the total trees sampled, were selected for mapping using pixel-based and object-based approaches. All pairs of species were separable based on spectral reflectance values in at least one band, with Peltophorum pterocarpum being most distinct from other species. Object-based approaches were consistently superior to pixel-based methods, which were particularly low in accuracy for tree species with small canopy sizes, such as Cocos nucifera and Roystonea regia. There was a strong and significant correlation between the number of trees determined on the ground and from object-based classification. Overall, object-based approaches appear capable of discriminating the six most common species in a challenging urban environment, with substantial heterogeneity of tree canopy sizes. SIMULATION methods & models ,AGROTECHNOLOGY transfer ,PLANTING ,RICE ,CROPS ,METEOROLOGICAL stations ,COMPUTER network resources - Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare two different rice simulation models-standalone (Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer [DSSAT]) and web based (SImulation Model for RIce-Weather relations [SIMRIW])-with agrometeorological data and agronomic parameters for estimation of rice crop production in southern semi-arid tropics of India. Studies were carried out on the BPT5204 rice variety to evaluate two crop simulation models. Long-term experiments were conducted in a research farm of Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad, India. Initially, the results were obtained using 4 years (1994-1997) of data with weather parameters from a local weather station to evaluate DSSAT simulated results with observed values. Linear regression models used for the purpose showed a close relationship between DSSAT and observed yield. Subsequently, yield comparisons were also carried out with SIMRIW and DSSAT, and validated with actual observed values. Realizing the correlation coefficient values of SIMRIW simulation values in acceptable limits, further rice experiments in monsoon (Kharif) and post-monsoon (Rabi) agricultural seasons (2009, 2010 and 2011) were carried out with a location-specific distributed sensor network system. These proximal systems help to simulate dry weight, leaf area index and potential yield by the Java based SIMRIW on a daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal basis. These dynamic parameters are useful to the farming community for necessary decision making in a ubiquitous manner. However, SIMRIW requires fine tuning for better results/decision making.
