The article presents the report of the American Economic Association's representative to the International Economic Association for 1974. During the calendar year, the International Economic Association held a conference in Italy, a world congress in Hungary, a workshop in Turkey, and an East-West meeting in Switzerland. The conference in Turin, Italy, April 1 to 6, was on The Economics of Public Services. The World Congress in Budapest, Hungary, was held from August 19 to 24 on Economic Integration: Worldwide, Regional, Sectoral. The program provided for papers and reports in plenary sessions and for papers and general discussion in ten separate working groups. The largest delegation came from the USSR with 280 members. The U.S. was represented by 78 participants. The workshop at the Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Turkey, was held September 2 to 6 on Population and Development. The East-West Conference was held from August 29 to September 3 in Montreaux, Switzerland, on Recent Economic Developments in Socialist and Non-Socialist Countries.

This article reports on a statement issued by the European Securitisation Forum (ESF) and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (Sifma), which listed the measures they were working on to improve current market conditions. The following day, the ESF and American Securitization Forum held a conference call with members to address asset backed commercial paper, the part of the market suffering most acutely from loss of confidence. Around 90 people took part in the call, with some institutions represented by more than one person.

This article discusses various matters on migration. The Political Participation of Ethnic Minorities in Europe workshop was organized by the European Consortium for Political Research and was held at the Leyden University, The Netherlands, on April 2 to 8, 1993. This workshop explores the factors which constrain or facilitate the participation of ethnic minorities in the political process and the extent to which such participation has furthered or diluted the pursuit of ethnically-based interests. Meanwhile, the Annual Meeting of the American Catholic Historical Association: Philadelphia was held April 16 to 17, 1993. It included the following papers: The American Catholic Response to Recent Immigration, by M. L. Sullivan; Ybor City Latins and the Church, by M. J. McNally; and Puerto Ricans and the Archdiocesan of Chicago, 1963-1970, by T. Kelliher. In other matters, The Forum for Researchers on Islam in Europe was established to encourage the development of information and interdisciplinary research on Islam and Muslim populations in Europe. It foresees a publication of a newsletter, directory of members, publication of an international bibliography in 1993, a symposium in 1994, and an international conference in 1995.

Some of the presenters from Croatia were Mirko Husak of the University of Zagreb and Slavko Lemajić.

In this article the author discusses the initiatives of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) to publish a new journal for the European health systems research (HRS). The author states that there has been a concept drift on the "European Journal of Public Health," which is the official journal of the EUPHA since public health possessed other meanings in different countries. He reveals that the journal publishes good HRS but majority of the topics are health promotion and epidemiology.

This article presents updates on the sections of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) as of April 2005. The ten existing EUPHA sections are very active. Not only have they planned workshops and annual meetings, but they are also working on a number of projects. The section on public health epidemiology is working on a restart. The sections infectious diseases control and social security health are planning pre-conference activities in Graz. The section health promotion is presenting EUPHA at the International Union of Health Promotion and Education meeting. The section youth is working on a Web site for teen health. The section migrant health is planning a conference on migrant health in 2006. The section public health practice and policy has the leadership in project of the Strengthening Public Health Research in the European Union. And the section on health services research is planning training modules around EUPHA conferences. Several proposals for EUPHA sections are also presented. It concerns a possible section on public health genetics, health economics and chronic diseases.

27. Launch of European Computer Education Management Association - CEdMA.

This article reports that the Computer Education Management Association Europe (CedMA), the first professional association specifically for IT training organizations, was launched recently. CEdMAEurope has been established to give training professionals from hardware and software manufacturing organizations the opportunity to exchange ideas, address the need for globalization and promote the importance of IT training in Europe. Membership of CEdMA enables participant organizations to attend three, two-day conferences each year. The first conference, hosted by International Business Machines Corp. in their Training Centre at La Hulpe, Brussels, took place on September 15-16. The conference agenda included topics such as Certification Standards, International Courseware Standards, Technology-based Training and Evaluation Methods.
