Introduction. Breast cancer is currently the most frequently detected cancer in women and the primary cause of cancer‐related deaths globally. The incidence of breast cancer has significantly increased in countries across sub‐Saharan Africa, counting Ethiopia. There are multiple determinants of breast cancer, a few of these can be changeable whereas others are not. Evidence suggests that breastfeeding, which is a changeable determinant, reduces breast cancer risk. However, there is a lack of evidence specifically linking the duration of breastfeeding to breast cancer risk. To date, no study has been conducted on the association between the duration of breastfeeding and the likelihood of breast cancer among Ethiopian women. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between breastfeeding duration and breast cancer risk in Ethiopian mothers who had breastfed, taking into account other significant determinants. Methods. A hospital‐based case‐control study was carried out in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, involving 203 women (70 cases and 133 controls). Face‐to‐face interviews were performed using a standardized, validated questionnaire that assessed various sociodemographic, reproductive, lifestyle, and dietary characteristics. Differences between cases and controls were evaluated using the chi‐square test. The associations among factors were examined through bivariate and multivariable binary logistic regression, with results presented as odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Results. The multivariable investigation revealed that an inverse relationship between breastfeeding duration and breast cancer risk. Mothers who breastfed for a longer period had a 93% lower risk of breast cancer (AOR = 0.07; 95% CI: 0.021–0.21) compared to those who breastfed for a shorter duration. Younger mothers had a 95% lower likelihood of developing breast cancer (AOR = 0.05; 95% CI: 0.003–0.91) than older mothers. Additionally, mothers with sedentary behaviour were 10.53 times more likely to develop breast cancer (AOR = 10.53; 95% CI: 5.21–21.36) than those who were moderately or highly active. Mothers who experienced chest therapy were 6.43 times more likely to develop breast cancer (AOR = 6.43; 95% CI: 3.20–13.90) compared to those who had not. Conclusions. Interventions such as breastfeeding counselling and promoting the recommended duration of breastfeeding are crucial in minimizing the risk of breast cancer. Enhancing physical activity should also be viewed as a vital approach for lowering breast cancer risk. Background. Psoriasis is a common immune‐mediated papulosquamous inflammatory skin disease characterized by well‐demarcated, erythematous silvery scaly plaques. Prevalence rates of psoriasis showed a worldwide variation and have been reported to range between 0.09% and 5.1%. It has been associated with several intrinsic as well as extrinsic factors and has a detrimental effect on health‐related quality of life. Studies on the burden, factors associated with it, and quality of life of psoriasis are limited in the study area. Objectives. To assess the magnitude, factors associated with it, and quality of life of psoriasis patients. Methods. Institution‐based cross‐sectional study was conducted among patients who attend dermatology clinics at Tibebe Ghion comprehensive specialized and Addis Alem primary hospitals from June 8 to September 5, 2022. Systematic random sampling was applied to select study participants until the sample size (318) was fulfilled. A structured interviewer‐administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Collected data were coded and entered into EPI data version 3.1 and then exported to SPSS version 27 for analysis. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were done. Result. The mean age of study participants was 22.5 with a standard deviation (SD) of 18.2 years. The proportion of psoriasis was 5.3% with a 95% CI (3.1%, 8.4%). Stressful life events (AOR = 3.32, 95% CI (1.12, 9.86)) and alcohol consumption (AOR = 3.73, 95% CI (1.03, 13.51)) were significantly associated with psoriasis. Seven (41.2%) psoriasis patients had a large effect on their quality of life. The mean dermatology quality of life index (DLQI) was 9.82. Conclusion. The proportion of psoriasis in this study was comparable to earlier international and Ethiopian studies, but greater than studies from other African countries. Stressful life events and alcohol consumption were significantly associated with psoriasis. The majority of psoriasis patients had a large negative effect on their quality of life. Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) have an increased risk of vascular complications. Despite the rise in the prevalence of T2D and its complications throughout the globe, there is a paucity of data regarding the prevalence and determinants of vascular complications of T2D in Ethiopia. Hence, this study aimed to assess the prevalence, patterns, and determinants of the microvascular and macrovascular complications of T2D among adult patients attending a teaching hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A retrospective study was done by reviewing the electronic health records of adult patients with T2D attending the general medical and endocrine referral clinics of Yekatit 12 Hospital Medical College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from June 1, 2023, to November 30, 2023. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 25, was used to analyze the data. Descriptive analysis was used to summarize the sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory profiles as well as the patterns of vascular complications of T2D. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were fitted, and the crude odds ratio (COR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR), together with the 95% confidence interval (CI), were computed to identify the determinants of microvascular and macrovascular complications of T2D. Results: A total of 272 patients with T2D were included in this study; 50.5% were females, and the mean (± standard deviation) age was 56.3 ± 12.8 years. The majority of patients (62.5%) had diabetes for ≥ 5 years. More than half (51.5%) had poor glycemic control with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) value of ≥ 7%. The overall prevalence of vascular complications was 39%. The prevalence of microvascular complications was 23.5%, the most common being neuropathy (11.8%), and the prevalence of macrovascular complications was 21%, the most common being coronary artery disease (12.1%). The determinants of microvascular complications were age ≥ 60 years (AOR = 2.25, 95% CI: 1.17, 4.33), diabetes duration of ≥ 5 years (5–10 years [AOR = 3.13, 95% CI: 1.37, 7.18], and > 10 years [AOR = 3.88, 95% CI: 1.66, 9.06], and HbA1c value of ≥ 7% (AOR = 2.21, 95% CI: 1.14, 4.28). The odds of developing macrovascular complications were higher with diabetes duration of ≥ 5 to 10 years (AOR = 2.89, 95% CI: 1.37, 6.12) as compared with diabetes duration of < 5 years. Conclusions: This study demonstrated a high prevalence of microvascular and macrovascular complications in adult patients with T2D. Older age, prolonged duration of diabetes, and poor glycemic control were identified as the determinants for the development of microvascular complications of T2D, while prolonged duration of diabetes was the determining factor for the development of macrovascular complications. Background: In developing countries birth asphyxia is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Despite the implementation of various strategies and interventions to combat neonatal mortality rates, birth asphyxia remains the main public health concern in Ethiopia. Moreover, limited studies have been conducted, especially in the study area and there are no multicenter analyses available to generate evidence for action. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the burden and associated factors of birth asphyxia among newborns in the selected public hospitals of the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau. Methods: Three hundred forty-three mother-child pairs who used delivery services and gave birth in the selected public hospitals were included in the study, and institution based cross sectional study design was employed. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. A pretested, structured interviewer administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. The physician's/health care professionals diagnosis of an Apgar score less than 7 within the first five minutes of life led to the confirmation of the diagnosis of birth asphyxia. SPSS version 24 was used for analysis after the data were exported from Epi Info version 7.2. Multivariate logistic regression analysis included variables which had P-values less than 0.25 in the bivariable logistic regression analysis. The study findings were expressed using adjusted odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval, and P-value less than 0.05 was used to declare the statistical significance. Results: The magnitude of birth asphyxia was found to be 17.1% [95% CI; (13.2–21.5)] at the first 5 min. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis cord accident [AOR = 6.24: 95% CI; (1.24–31.32)], prolonged duration of labor [AOR = 2.49: 95% CI; (1.93–10.89)], and meconium-stained amniotic fluid [AOR = 3.33: 95% CI; (1.73–6.41)] were the predictors of birth asphyxia. Conclusions: The findings of this research indicate that birth asphyxia is a prevalent neonatal problem at the study area. Therefore, the Addis Ababa Health Bureau must prioritize integrated mitigation interventions targeting high-risk pregnancies to achieve national and international commitment to sustainable changes in newborn health. Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common chronic diseases globally. Despite the presence of national strategies to prevent potential sequelae DM has been associated with increased morbidities and mortality in Ethiopia, and the prevalence appears to be on the rise. Although studies have been conducted among DM patients in the country, there is a lack of information that could allow an in-depth understanding of the situation. Objective: To assess dietary practices and associated factors among adult DM patients at academic tertiary-level hospitals in central Ethiopia. Methods: The institution-based concurrent mixed-methods study was conducted from January 01 to 30 2024 involving 420 adult DM patients. Participants were selected using a simple random sampling technique for quantitative study. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 16 participants for qualitative analysis. For the quantitative study, a self-administered structured questionnaire was used to collect data, and an in-depth interview for the qualitative part. Multivariate binary logistic regressions were used to assess the explanatory variables associated with dietary practice. A thematic analysis was performed for qualitative data. Result: Of 420 eligible participants, 406 (96.7%) participated in the study. The overall proportion of good dietary practices among participants was 172 (44.2%). The being female, urban residence a family history of DM, and good dietary were significantly associated with the dietary practice. From qualitative analysis, two themes have emerged; Living as before and not adhering to diabetic dietary recommendations and barriers to adherence to effective eating practice. Conclusions and recommendations: Less than half of adult DM patients had good dietary practices. Sex, geographic location, family history of DM, and level of knowledge of diabetic diet were associated with dietary practice. Background: Inadequate water supply, poor sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in schools, insufficient puberty education and a lack of hygienic menstrual hygiene management (MHM) items (absorbents) cause girls in developing countries like Ethiopia to view menstruation as shameful and uncomfortable. However, there was little evidence of female MHM practice and associated factors among secondary school girls in eastern Ethiopia. Objective: To assess MHM practice and associated factors among secondary school girls in eastern Ethiopia. Design: Institutional-based cross-sectional study design was conducted. Methods: A total of 473 secondary schoolgirls were selected using a stratified sampling technique. Data were collected using a self-administered structured questionnaire, double-entered to Epidata version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 26 for analysis. Descriptive analysis was computed using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviations. Multivariable logistic regression was applied to assess the association of the school water, sanitation and hygiene facilities with MHM. Adjusted odd ratio (AOR) with its 95% confidence interval was computed to show the strength of the association between dependent and independent variables. The goodness of fit of the model was tested by the Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness of fit test. Results: Out of 473 study participants, 72.93% of them (95% CI: 68.74–76.76) reported good MHM practices. The study also found that availability of continuous water supply (AOR = 2.40, 95% CI: (1.42–4.01)); types of toilet (AOR = 2.01, 95% CI: (1.20–3.40)), confined space (AOR = 3.02, 95% CI: (1.49–4.76)) and having females' toilets alone inside in the school (AOR = 2.70, 95% CI: (1.20–4.40)) were significantly associated with female students' good MHM practice. Conclusion: The survey revealed that some of the secondary schoolgirls practiced poor menstrual hygiene management (MHM), which needs further improvement. The study also found that the availability of continuous water supply in the school, types of toilet facility in the school, availability of private space to manage periods at school, learning about MHM in schools and availability of female toilets kept locked inside were factors significantly associated with MHM practice of students, which require integration of Zonal Health and education bureau to jointly work towards the improvement of school WASH facilities. Background: Labor pain is the nastiest conceivable pain women are involved in during labor and delivery. In this way, the end of labor pain is frequently outlined by myths and equivocalness. Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the pooled prevalence of labor analgesia and associated factors to pregnant women in Ethiopia. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis were utilized in agreement with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews. Data Sources: PubMed/Medline, SCOPUS, EMBASE, Web of Science, Google Scholars, and the Cochrane Library and supplemented it with manual were deliberately looked at until January 1–30, 2024. Methods: Two authors independently extricated all principal information utilizing standardized data extraction designs, and the analysis was done utilizing STATA version 17. Heterogeneity over the studies was evaluated utilizing I 2 measurement. The funnel plot and Egger's weighted regression tests were utilized to assess subjective and objective publication biases respectively. Also, the pooled effect of labor pain management and the associations were evaluated utilizing a random-effects model. Results: The general pooled prevalence of labor analgesia in the present study was 23.3% with a (95% confidence interval (CI): 13.5, 33.1). Maternal age (odds ratio (OR): 1.91; 95% CI: 1.11, 2.77), parity of the mother (OR: 0.28; 95% CI: 0.06, 0.63), history of pregnancy misfortune (OR: 0.12; 95% CI: 0.11, 0.36), length of labor (OR: 2.09; 95% CI: 1.06, 3.13), and awareness about labor analgesia (OR: 1.91; 95% CI: 0.34, 3.49) were significantly related with labor analgesia among pregnant women in Ethiopia. Conclusions: The generally pooled prevalence of labor analgesia among pregnant women in Ethiopia was low. Maternal age, parity of the mother, history of pregnancy loss, length of labor, and awareness of labor analgesia were factors influencing labor analgesia among pregnant women in Ethiopia. Background: Babies spend a lot of their time with sleeping thus they need to have a safe sleep. Inadequate sleeping arrangements might heighten the likelihood of Sudden Unexpected mortality in Infancy (SUDI), including SIDS and lethal sleeping mishaps, which continue to be the most prevalent cause of mortality for individuals aged 1 to 1 year. Objective: The study aimed to assess safe baby sleep practices and associated factors among women receiving immunizations at government healthcare facilities in Dessie Town. Design: An institution-based cross-sectional study Methods: We conducted interviews with a total of 392 mothers using semi-structured questionnaires at public health facilities of Dessie town, in 2021. After the data were entered into the EPI data version 3.1, SPSS 23 was utilized for the analysis. Additionally, multivariate and binary logistic regression analyses were carried out. In multivariate analysis, a P -value less than.05 indicate a significant association. Results: About 38.3%, 21.9%, and 14.7% had safe infant sleep practice regarding sleep position, no soft-bedding and sleep arrangement respectively. Significant association was observed between safe infant sleep position with baby age less than 3 months (AOR = 2.96, 95% CI = 1.50-5.84), baby age of 7 to 9 months (AOR = 3.84, 95% CI = 2.15-6.85), maternal level of education(AOR = 4.48, 95% CI = 1.87-10.76), relative/friend as their source of information (AOR = 1.98, 95% CI = 1.14-3.44), grandmother as their source of information (AOR = 1.89, 95% CI = 1.00-3.57).Additionally, baby age 4 to 6 months (AOR = 0.93, 95% CI = 0.19-0.94) and maternal level of education (AOR = 0.19, 95% CI = 0.04-0.92) shows a significant safe infant bed arrangement practice. Furthermore, baby age of 10 to 12 months (AOR = 0.49, 95% CI = 0.25-0.98) and maternal education level of college and above (AOR = 3.44, 95% CI = 1.18-10.03) also shows significant association with safe soft-bedding practice. Conclusion: Mothers' safe infant sleep practices were found to be low in Dessie town. Therefore, efforts should be made to enhance mothers' attentiveness and engagement. Background: Comorbid anxiety in hypertensive patients yields poor remedy adherence which may additionally restrict treatment choices. Sex, status of blood pressure, family history of hypertension, family history of mental illness, history of admission, social support status, and current alcohol use have been substantially associated with anxiety among hypertensive patients. Background: The World Health Organization has recommended a new method for HIV self-testing (HIVST) using oral fluid, intending to increase HIV testing rates, and linking individuals to medical care. Healthcare workers are chief health advocates in the community who need adequate knowledge and intention to use the newly recommended HIVST approach. However, studies on awareness and the intention to use oral fluid for HIV self-testing among Ethiopian healthcare workers are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to assess healthcare workers' knowledge of and intentions to use oral fluid for HIV self-testing in Hadiya Zone public hospitals in southern Ethiopia in 2022. Methods: We conducted a facility-based cross-sectional study among a sample of 352 healthcare workers from 1 to 30 June 2022. The data were entered into Epidata version 4.2 and exported to SPSS version 23 for analysis. We used a logistic regression model with a 95% confidence interval for the interpretation of adjusted odds ratios (AORs) with P < 0.05. Results: Of the total participants, 40.3% had good knowledge, and 63.1% intended to use oral fluid (HIVST). Approximately 92% of healthcare workers had not received training, and 48.3% had heard about HIVST. Only 12.3% knew about the availability of the kit in hospitals, and 19.9% had ever used HIVST. Being male (AOR = 2.28; 95% CI 1.33–3.95), receiving support for the implementation of HIVST (AOR = 2.07; 95% CI 1.21–3.56), hearing about HIVST (AOR = 5.05; 95% CI 2.89–8.81), having prior experience using HIVST (AOR = 2.94; 95% CI 1.71–5.05), having a spouse or partner (AOR = 2.78; 95% CI 1.14–6.82), and having multiple sexual partners (AOR = 2.76; 95% CI 1.13–6.78) were associated with good knowledge of oral HIVST. Being aged 25–29 years (AOR = 2.54; 95% CI 1.18, 5.41), perceiving the high cost of the HIVST kit (AOR = 0.37; 95% CI 0.16–0.84), and having poor knowledge (AOR = 1.91; 95% CI 1.13–3.23) were significantly associated with the intention to use the oral fluid for HIVST. Conclusion: This study highlights the need for technical updating training for healthcare workers to increase their knowledge of and intention to use oral fluid for HIVST. Promoting oral fluid HIVST through targeted education, supporting initiatives, and addressing cost concerns related to the testing kit may increase the uptake of oral fluid HIVST among healthcare workers. Background: Sepsis is a major cause of mortality worldwide and an important public health problem. The quality of patient care is negatively impacted when nurses lack adequate knowledge regarding the management of sepsis. On the other hand, little is known regarding Ethiopian nurses' knowledge of sepsis management. Objective: To assess the level of knowledge and the associated factors towards sepsis management among nurses working in emergency departments in public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Method: From March 18 to April 18, 2022, a health facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted. A simple sampling technique (lottery method) was used to select the hospitals. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 25. The study employed logistic regression analysis to examine the association between the independent variables and the level of knowledge. Variables were significantly associated with a level of knowledge if they had a p-value of less than 0.05 and a 95% confidence interval. Result: Of the 127 participants, more than half (56.7%) had poor knowledge. Nurses' knowledge of managing sepsis was significantly associated with not having regular training, a low level of education, and working experience of less than five years. The findings of the multivariable regression analysis revealed that the following variables were associated with a nurse's knowledge of sepsis management: low level of education (AOR = 3.2 (95% CI, 1.16–8.77), lack of training adjusted odd ratio (AOR = 2.5 (95% CI, 1.07–5.93), and less than five years of work experience (AOR = 3.6 (95% CI, 1. 29–9.830). Conclusion: The majority of nurses had inadequate knowledge of managing sepsis. On the other hand, the majority of nurses had a favourable attitude toward sepsis management. Lack of prior training, a low level of education, and less than five years of work experience were all significantly associated with nurses' poor knowledge regarding sepsis management. This study recommends that hospital managers should provide on-the-job and long-term training for nurses working in the emergency department to enhance the level of nurses' knowledge towards sepsis management at their institutions. Background: Globally, ostomy creation rates are rising. Stomas, while life-saving, pose significant challenges. Nurses are vital in providing care and support to stoma patients. However, ostomy care practice and knowledge among Ethiopian nurses remain understudied. This study aimed to assess these aspects among nurses in Bahir Dar City, Ethiopia, in 2022. Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted in three public hospitals in Bahir Dar City from September 19 to September 30, 2022. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 423 nurses. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to identify associated factors toward dependent variables by considering p -value <0.05 to be statistically significant. Result: From the total samples, 382(90.3%) responded to the questionnaire. The overall good knowledge and practice level of nurses regarding ostomy care was 55.2% and 52.1%, respectively. Taking ostomy care training {AOR = 2.44; 95% CI (1.29, 4.61)} and high level of a monthly income of study participants {AOR = 2.90; 95% CI (1.72, 4.91)} had a significant association with knowledge of ostomy care. On the other hand, taking courses on ostomy care {AOR = 1.76; 95% CI (1.06, 2.93)}, receiving training on ostomy care {AOR = 4.15; 95% CI (2.12, 8.09)} and good knowledge level on ostomy care {AOR = 2.13; 95% CI (1.32, 3.45)} were significantly associated with expressed practice of ostomy care. Conclusion: The study found that only half of nurses exhibit good knowledge and practice in ostomy care. Training and monthly income significantly influence nurses' knowledge, while practice level is associated with training, course attendance, and knowledge. These findings highlight the importance of targeted training programs and education initiatives to enhance nurses' competence in ostomy care. It is also crucial to address factors like nurses' income levels to ensure equitable access to educational resources and opportunities for professional development, thus enhancing their knowledge. Background: Electrocardiography (ECG) is a noninvasive diagnostic method used to examine electrical and muscular cardiac activity. It is usually the first-line diagnostic tool for patients with chest pain. Late recognition of electrocardiography abnormalities can cause in-hospital cardiac arrest, further complicate care, increase the cost of health care, and prolong admission. Hence, the objective of this study was to determine the knowledge, practice, and associated factors of nurses regarding the interpretation of electrocardiography. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 334 nurses working at randomly selected public hospitals from March 06, 2023, to April 05, 2023. Since our study populations were less than the calculated sample size, all nurses who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included. The collected data were coded and cleaned using EpiData version 4.2 and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regression was run to find an association between dependent and independent variables. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence levels were used to measure the strength of associations. Results: A total of 334 nurses responded to the survey, yielding a 93% response rate. Only 15.4% and 9% of them had satisfactory knowledge and good practice, respectively. Nurses who had 2–4 years of experience in the current unit were 3.13 times more likely (AOR = 3.13 (1.23, 7.92) to have sufficient knowledge. Nurses working in cardiac care units were 3.45 times more likely to have good practices than those working in intensive care units (AOR = 3.45 (1.02, 13.73)). Conclusion: The study revealed that educational qualifications, in-service training, and current working units were significantly associated with nurses' knowledge and practice of electrocardiography interpretation. Background: The current professional nursing education program adopts various great attention for clinical practice to supply nursing students. Objective: To assess the prevalence and associated factors of stress and coping strategies of nursing students during clinical practice in the school of nursing, Wachemo University, Ethiopia, 2024. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional design study was conducted between January 1 and 12/2024. The total number of students was 421. Data were collected using the validated tool and entered using Epi-data Version 3.1 and exported to SPSS Version 25 for analysis. Binary logistic regression was done, and variables with a p -value of <.05 were taken into the multivariable analysis. Statistically significant was declared at a p -value of <.05 with AOR and 95% CI. Result: The prevalence of stress and coping strategies was 58.4% with 95% CI [53.6–62.8] and 52.0% with 95% CI [47.3–56.5] respectively. Male gender, private regular, and instructor guide were significantly associated with stress. Age group 19–24 years, having low grades, living in a university dorm, clinical staff guiding, instructor guiding, and asking unclear issues were significantly associated with coping strategies. Conclusion: About six in ten nursing students have stress. Being male gender, being a private, living with families, and instructor guide are significantly associated with stress. Therefore, managing gender-related issues, attending regular programs, living in a university dorm, and guiding the students might reduce the burden of stress during clinical practice. About five in ten nursing students have good coping strategies. Being age group of lower years old, having low grades, living in a university dorm, clinical staff guiding, instructor guiding, and asking the instructor about unclear issues were significantly associated with coping strategies. Background: Birth preparedness and complication readiness is a holistic approach that empowers mothers and families with the knowledge, attitude, and resources to alleviate potential challenges during childbirth. Despite its benefits, husbands' participation in maternal care differs significantly between countries and regions. There is a lack of previous studies that look at husbands' responses to birth preparedness and complication readiness in the research area. Thus, the primary goal of this study is to find out how husbands who have wives with infants under 12 months old feel about birth preparation, readiness for problems, and its associated factors. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study design was conducted from May 30 to July 29, 2022. Simple random sampling was employed to select 499 husbands. An interviewer-administered, structured, and pretested questionnaire was used to collect the data. Data entry and analysis were performed using Epi Data version 4.6 and SPSS version 25, respectively. We used multivariable logistic regression to find statistically significant factors. P-values less than 0.05, 95% confidence intervals, and adjusted odds ratios are used to declare statistical significance. The findings were shown in figures, tables, and text. Results: The study found that 55.9% (95% CI: 51.4 to 61.4%) of husbands responded to birth preparedness and complication readiness. This response was significantly associated with being employed (AOR = 3.7, 95% CI: 2.27–5.95), engaging in self-business (AOR = 5.3, 95% CI: 2.34–12.01), having wives who delivered in health facilities (AOR = 7.1, 95% CI: 3.92–12.86), accompanying wives for antenatal care (AOR = 2.2, 95% CI: 1.39–3.56), possessing good knowledge of danger signs during labor (AOR = 2.0, 95% CI: 1.08–3.74) and the postnatal period (AOR = 7.1, 95% CI: 3.14–16.01). Interestingly, residents living near a health facility (AOR = 0.6, 95% CI: 0.39–0.97) were less likely to respond. Conclusion: The present study found that nearly 6 out of 10 husbands actively responded in terms of birth preparedness and complication readiness. While husbands in this study showed some involvement in birth preparedness and complications, it is good when compared to studies carried out nationally. Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a major reproductive health problem that severely affects women's quality of life in several ways. Women who suffer from POP silently wait to heal from their problem without seeking care until the disease progressively worsens. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess factors associated with delay in seeking treatment among women with POP at public hospitals in Bale Zone, Southeast Ethiopia. Design: Facility-based cross-sectional study. Methods: A total of 344 study participants were enrolled at public hospitals in Bale Zone, Southeast Ethiopia, from 20 February to 20 May 2023. A consecutive sampling method was used to select the respondents. Data were collected using a pretested interviewer-administered structured questionnaire. Both bivariable and multivariable logistic regressions were used to identify the predictors of the outcome variable. Both the crude odds ratio (COR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR) along with a 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to estimate the strength of the association between predictors and the response variable. Results: This study revealed that out of 333 participants, 76.9% (95% CI: 72.1, 81.4) were delayed in the treatment of POP. The median time of delay for POP treatments was 36 [interquartile range (IQR): 24–96] months. Being a rural resident [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.02, 95% CI: 1.23, 4.00], autonomous decision-making (AOR = 5.46, 95% CI: 2.30, 10.85), lack of support (AOR = 3.94, 95% CI: 1.64, 9.48), an embarrassment to see male health care providers (AOR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.09, 3.81), and a lack of knowledge about successful POP treatment (AOR = 2.29, 95% CI: 1.27, 4.14) were significantly associated with delay of treatment for POP. Conclusion: A large number of women with POP did not seek health care in this study: Being in rural, autonomous decision-making, a lack of support, an embarrassment to see male health care providers, and a lack of knowledge on successful treatment were associated with treatment delay. Educating women and the community to make them aware that it is a treatable condition and encourage women's independence in decision-making on health care services in the family will improve their quality of life. Background: Codes of ethics provide essential guidance for nursing like those of other professions. This is because nurses are increasingly challenged by complex concerns in their practice. Ethical practice is the foundation for nurses because they deal with ethical issues on daily basis. Objectives: This study was aimed to determine the nursing codes of ethics practice and associated factors among nurses working in selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted in selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa between mid-March and June 2022. Study participants were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Result: Of the 367 nurses, 334(91%) were aged ≤35 years. The majority 221(60.2%) of nurses were married. The level of a good "nursing code of ethics" practice among nurses was 48.8%. Having training on nursing ethics/code of ethics after school [AOR = 2.41, 95%CI: 1.24, 4.68, p -value = 0.009], good job satisfaction [AOR = 1.58, 95%CI: 1.25, 7.35, p -value = 0.022], good knowledge towards "nursing code of ethics" [AOR = 3.11, 95%CI: 1.59, 6.05, p -value = 0.001], and positive attitude towards "nursing code of ethics" [AOR = 8.56, 3.81, 18.25, p -value = 0.000] were factors significantly associated with "nursing code of ethics" practice. Conclusion: The level of good "nursing code of ethics" practice among nurses was relatively low. Training in nursing ethics/code of ethics after school, job satisfaction, knowledge about "nursing code of ethics", and attitude towards "nursing code of ethics" were factors significantly associated with "nursing code of ethics" practice. Background: Despite significant progress being made in reducing under-five mortality, three-fourths of under-five deaths are still caused by preventable conditions such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, and newborn issues. Integrated community case management of childhood illnesses (ICCM) could serve as a means to reduce preventable child mortality in Low- and Middle-Income countries. Our aim was to assess the overall level of ICCM utilization and its associated factors in Ethiopia. Methods: Candidate studies for inclusion in this review were identified through searches across various databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and university repositories online databases, spanning from February 1, 2024, to March 18, 2024. The quality assessment of the studies included in this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted using the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale (NOS). Data extraction and analysis were carried out using Microsoft Excel and Stata 17 software, respectively. Heterogeneity among the studies was assessed using Cochran's Q test and I2 statistics, while the presence of publication bias was evaluated through funnel plots and Egger's regression asymmetry test. Subgroup analysis was performed based on sample size and study site. Results: In this study, the pooled level of ICCM utilization was found to be 42.73 (95%, CI 27.65%, 57.80%) based on the evidence obtained from ten primary studies. In this review, parents' awareness about illness (OR = 2.77, 95%, CI 2.06, 3.74), awareness about ICCM service (OR = 3.64, 95%, CI 2.16, 6.14), perceived severity of the disease (OR = 3.14, 95%, CI 2.33, 4.23), secondary/above level of education (OR = 2.57, 95%, CI 1.39, 4.77), and live within 30 min distance to the health post (OR = 3.93, 95%, CI 2.30, 6.74) were variables significantly associated with utilization of ICCM in Ethiopia. Conclusion: The utilization of ICCM was found to be low in Ethiopia. Factors such as parents' awareness about the illness, knowledge of ICCM services, perceived severity of the disease, attending a secondary or more level of education, and living within 30 min distance to the health post were significantly associated with the utilization of ICCM. Background: Post-operative sore throat is the common complaint and uncomfortable side effect in patients receiving general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation. Drugs with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, like steroids and local anesthetics, are the best options for postoperative sore throat prophylaxis. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the effects of intravenous lidocaine and dexamethasone in reducing postoperative sore throat following endotracheal extubation at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from January 1 to March 30, 2023 G.C. Methods: A prospective cohort study was carried out at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital. Data from 50 patients in the lidocaine (1.5 mg/kg), 50 in the dexamethasone (8 mg), and 49 in the control groups were analyzed. The data were collected using observation based on structured questionnaires. A systematic random sampling technique was applied to select respondents. The data were entered into EpiData version 4.6.0.6 and transferred to STATA version 17 statistical software for analysis. A comparison of continuous data among the groups were performed using a one-way ANOVA test for parametric data. The Kruskal–Wallis rank test was used for non-parametric data. Associations between variables were tested using chi-squared test, Fisher's exact test, and binary logistic regression. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression was used to determine degree of association. Results: The incidence of POST was 40%, 32%, and 57.1% in the lidocaine, dexamethasone, and control groups, respectively (P =.0356). Dexamethasone reduced the incidence of POST during the first 24 h (AOR: 0.374, 95% CI: 0.149–0.939). However, no difference was observed in the severity of POST at 3 h (p = 0.130), 6 h (p = 0.096), 12 h (p = 0.313), and 24 h (p = 0.525) of the post-extubation period among the three groups. IV lidocaine did not effectively reduce the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat at different time intervals. Conclusion and recommendation: Intravenous dexamethasone is more effective than intravenous lidocaine in reducing the incidence of postoperative sore throat among the groups. Background: Delays in surgery start times can lead to poor patient outcomes and considerable increases in healthcare expenditures. This is especially true in developing countries that often face systemic inefficiencies, such as a shortage of operating rooms and trained surgical personnel. With substantial effects on patient outcomes, healthcare efficiency, and resource allocation, identifying delays in first-case elective surgery is a crucial area of research. Methods: A multicenter observational study was conducted at three comprehensive and specialized hospitals in the Amhara region of Ethiopia from May 1 to October 30, 2023. The primary aim of the study was to determine the occurrence of late first-case start times, defined as a patient being in the operating room at or after the hospital's incision time of 2:30 a.m. The secondary aim was to discover potential root causes of delayed first-case start times. All patients scheduled for elective surgery as the first case on the operating list throughout the study period were included in the study. Every emergency, day case, after-hours case, and canceled case was excluded. Results: A total of 530 surgical patients were included during the study window from May 1 to October 1, 2023. Of these, 41.5% were general surgeries, 20.4% were gynecology and obstetrics surgeries, and 13.2% were orthopedic surgery procedures. Before the procedure started, nine (1.7%) of the participants had prolonged discussion with a member of the surgical team. Patients who arrived in the operating room waiting area at or after 2:30 a.m. were 2.5 times more likely to experience a first-case start time delay than those who arrived before or at 2:00 a.m. (AOR = 2.50; 95% CI: 1.13–5.14). Furthermore, participants with abnormal investigation results were 2.4 times more likely to have a late first-case start time (AOR = 2.41; 95% CI: 1.06, 5.50). Moreover, the odds of a late first-case start time were increased by 10.53 times with the surgeon being in the operating room at or after 2:30 a.m. (AOR = 10.53; 95% CI: 5.51, 20.11). Conclusion: The research highlights a significant occurrence of delayed start times for the first elective surgical procedures. Therefore, directing attention to aspects such as ensuring patients and surgical teams arrive promptly (by or before 2:00 a.m.) and timely evaluation and communication of investigative findings before the scheduled surgery day could facilitate efforts to maximize operating room efficiency and enhance patient health outcomes. Background: Mobile health has become widely used within the healthcare system, and there is an increasing worldwide trend toward employing this innovation for behavior management, disease monitoring, the control and prevention of various health issues, and rising enrollment in healthcare services. Although mHealth is becoming more widely available, there is no evidence about the attitude of healthcare professionals toward mHealth in southwest Ethiopia. Therefore, this study is aimed at assessing the attitude of healthcare professionals to using mHealth technology and associated factors in Ethiopia. Methods: An institutional cross‐sectional study was conducted among 422 healthcare professionals. Data were collected using a pretested interviewer‐administered questionnaire, and the study was conducted from January 08 to February 10, 2023. EpiData Version 4.6 for entering the data and STATA Version 14 for analyzing the data were used. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was carried out to identify factors associated with healthcare professionals' attitudes to using mobile health technology. Results: A total of 415 study participants were included in the study. About 180 (43.4%) respondents had a favorable attitude toward mHealth technology in southwest public hospitals. Master's degree and above (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 3.67; 95% CI: 1.22, 4.10), good knowledge of mobile health technology (AOR: 4.08; 95% CI: 1.35, 5.31), more than 5 years of work experience (AOR: 3.09; 95% CI: 1.76, 5.60), had ICT infrastructure (AOR: 2.70; 95% CI: 1.38, 5.31), had own smart mobile (AOR: 3.67; 95% CI: 3.20, 4.31), and had taken computer‐related training (AOR: 1.96; 95% CI: 1.03, 3.73) were positively associated with healthcare professionals' attitude to using mobile health technologies in southwest Ethiopia. Conclusions: Overall, healthcare professionals' attitude to using mobile health technologies in southwest Ethiopia was relatively low. Education level, good knowledge, years of work experience, ICT infrastructure, having a smart mobile, and having taken computer‐related training were significant factors of attitude to using mobile health technologies. Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) are the two most important manifestations of venous thromboembolism (VTE). DVT remains a significant condition since associated morbidity is significant and has elevated healthcare-related costs. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted among DVT patients admitted to Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Zewditu Memorial Hospital and St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College on follow-up from July 1, 2017, to July 01, 2020. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, types of DVT, laboratory findings, medications, risk factors of DVT, complications and outcomes of DVT were collected. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine predictors of DVT recurrence and major bleeding. A P value < 0.05 was considered to identify significant predictors. Results: The mean age of the participants was 45.2 years, with SD of 15.36. The major causes of DVT included immobilization (29.9%), previous surgery (27.5%) and cancer (21.1%). The DVT recurrence rate was 22.5%. Nine (2.2%) of the participants died, and 19.9% developed complications. Bilateral DVT (Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.8, 95% Confidence interval (CI) = 1.14, 6.66), obesity (AOR = 3.3, 95% CI = 1.15, 9.59), hypertension (AOR = 6.5, 95% CI = 2.90, 14.70) and retroviral infection (AOR = 6.3, 95% CI = 2.34, 16.94) were predictors of recurrent DVT. Nineteen (4.7%) patients had major bleeding, and patients with bilateral DVT, active cancer and terminal age had an increased risk of major bleeding. Conclusions: The overall DVT recurrence rate was alarmingly high and further complicated by PE, post thrombotic syndrome and chronic vein insufficiency, resulting in a 2.2% death rate. Major bleeding after DVT and PE remained high. Close monitoring should be performed for patients with advanced age, active cancer, bilateral DVT, retroviral infection, obesity and hypertension to prevent the recurrence of DVT and major bleeding. Background: Emergence agitation is a transient confusional state of a child associated with consciousness from general anaesthesia, commonly occurs in the postoperative setting which delays their recovery and exposes them to traumas. The main objective of the current study was to investigate the magnitude of emergence agitation, its interventions and associated factors among paediatric surgical patients at Saint Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study with prospective follow-up framework was conducted on a paediatric surgical patients aged 2-14 years who underwent surgery under general anaesthesia between June 1 - October 30 2022. Stratified sampling method followed by simple random sampling technique was employed to reach study participants. Magnitude of emergence agitation and its interventions done at post-anaesthetic care units were recorded. Data analysis was carried out using a descriptive statistics method and the results were summarized using tables and diagrams. Bivariate analysis was done to identify causal relationship and multivariable analysis to assess the confounding effects of factors associated with emergence agitation. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant factor. Results: A total of 150 participants were included in the current study, where 107 (71.3%) were male and 97 (64.7%) were preschool aged. About 81 (54%) of care givers were female and majority of them have completed primary school. The mean (standard deviation) age of the participants was 6.4 (3.57) years. Around 42.7% of them developed emergence agitation with an average duration of 8.39 ± 4.45 minutes. Factors such as propofol administration at the end of procedure (OR of 0.104 with 95% CI [0.035, 0305]), Ear, nose, throat surgery and oral maxillofacial surgery (OR of 2.341 with 95% CI [1.051, 5.211]) and arrival of patient to recovery awake (OR of 0.456 95% CI [0.209, 0.994]) showed statistically significant association with emergence agitation. Conclusion: Almost half of the study participants experienced emergence agitation which is high magnitude. Ear, nose, throat surgery and oral maxillofacial surgeries were predictive factors of emergence agitation while propofol administration at the end of procedure and arrival of patient to recovery awake significantly decreased risk of emergence agitation. Therefore, anaesthesia personnel should have essential skills and knowledge to effectively care for children perioperatively including to minimize and treat emergence agitation. Background: Self-care practice is an integral and efficient part of comprehensive diabetes management, which could be influenced by various socio-demographic, clinical, and lifestyle factors. Objective: The study aimed to assess the level of diabetes self-care practice and its associated factors among patients with diabetes on follow-up at Yirgalem General Hospital, Yirgalem, Sidama, Ethiopia. Methodology: An Institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from February 15 to May 10, 2022, involving 298 patients with diabetes on follow-up at Yirgalem General Hospital. A pre-tested interviewer-administered questionnaire was utilized to collect data from patients. A descriptive analysis was conducted to determine the level of good self-care practice. Bivariate and multivariable binary logistics regression were performed to determine factors associated with good diabetic self-care practice. Associations with a p-value < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Result: The overall good diabetic self-care practice among patients was 59.4%. Regarding the specific domains of care, 15 (5%) participants had good self-glucose monitoring care, 228 (76.5%) had good exercise self-care, 268 (89.9%) had good dietary self-care, 228 (76.5%) had good foot self-care, and 260 (87.2%) had good diabetic medication adherence. Single marital status (AOR = 5.7, 95% CI: (1.418, 22.915), urban residence (AOR = 2.992, 95% CI: (1.251, 7.153)), and having a glucometer (AOR = 2.273, 95% CI: (1.083, 4.772)) were factors that were significantly associated with good diabetic self-care practice. Conclusion: Good diabetic self-care practices among participants was low. Marital status, place of residence, and having a glucometer were statistically significant predictors of good diabetic self-care practices. Targeted intervention addressing those patients from rural areas to increase awareness and practice of self-care, as well as the promotion of having a glucometer at home for self-glucose monitoring is recommended. Ensuring diet quality in the first 2 years of life is critical to preventing malnutrition and instilling healthy food preferences. Children's diet quality has changed little over time and inequalities by socioeconomic status, rural–urban residence, but also by food group may exist. Using data from the 2011, 2016 and 2019 demographic and health surveys (DHS), we estimated the prevalence and inequalities in the minimum diet diversity (MDD), minimum meal frequency (MMF) and minimum acceptable diet (MAD). We further assessed food group‐level inequities. In 2019, only 13.5% of children 6–23 months of age met the MDD, 55% met the MMF and only 11% met the MAD indicator. Absolute and relative measures of inequality were calculated. Modest increases in MDD, MMF and MAD were observed over the past decade (2011–2019). These modest improvements were concentrated in limited geographical areas, among children in wealthier households, and urban residents. Unhealthy practices such as bottle‐feeding and zero fruit and vegetables have been increasing; whereas, inequities in the consumption of nutrient‐dense foods have widened. Nevertheless, children from the wealthiest quintile also failed to meet the MDD. Multisectoral efforts that span from diversifying the food supply, regulating the marketing of unhealthy foods, and promoting minimal processing of perishables (i.e., to extend shelf‐life) are needed. Context‐adapted behavioural change communication along with nutrition‐sensitive social protection schemes are also needed to equitably improve the diet quality of children in Ethiopia. Early childhood development (ECD) is crucial for better health and well‐being throughout life, but few studies have examined how ECD relates to child malnutrition. This is mainly due to lack of reliable and disaggregated data on ECD. We estimated the prevalence of ECD delays (communication, fine motor, gross motor, problem‐solving and personal–social) and examined how different ECD domains were associated with child nutritional status in urban Ethiopia. Using a community‐based cross‐sectional survey design, 627 mother–child (12–36 months old) pairs were included in the study. The ECD was assessed using the Age and Stage Questionnaire (ASQ‐3), and the nutritional status was assessed using anthropometric measurements. The association between the ECD domains and nutritional status was analysed using ordinal logistic regression, adjusting for confounding variables. Delays in ECD domains were common, especially in fine motor domain (41.9%); and more than half of the children were stunted (52.8%). Stunting and underweight were associated with ECD delays, while wasting was not. Accordingly, stunted children were more likely to have worst ECD delays in fine motor (odds ratios [OR] = 1.54; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.11; 2.15), gross motor (OR = 1.47; 95% CI: 1.05; 2.04) and problem‐solving (OR = 1.41; 95% CI: 1.02; 1.96) domains compared to non‐stunted children. Similarly, underweight children were more likely to have worse ECD delays in gross motor (OR = 1.91; 95% CI: 1.20; 3.04) and fine motor (OR = 1.90; 95% CI: 1.15; 3.15) domains compared to normal children. Coordinated and targeted ECD interventions, such as nurturing care, should be promoted and implemented widely to improve ECD outcomes and child nutrition. The objective of our study was to reanalyse the Ethiopia STEPwise approach to Surveillance Noncommunicable Disease Risk Factors survey (NCD STEPS), using causal path diagrams constructed using expert subject matter knowledge in conjunction with graphical model theory to map the underlying causal network of modifiable factors associated with prediabetes/diabetes and hypertension. We used data from the 2015 Ethiopia NCD STEPS representative cross‐sectional survey (males; n = 3977 and females; n = 5823 aged 15–69 years) and performed directed acyclic graph‐informed logistic regression analyses. In both sexes, a 1‐unit higher in body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were positively associated with prediabetes/diabetes (BMI: males: adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 1.07 [95% confidence interval: 1.0, 1.1], females aOR: 1.03 [1.0, 1.1]; WC: males: aOR: 1.1 [0.9, 1.2], females: aOR: 1.2 [1.1, 1.3]) and hypertension (BMI: males: aOR: 1.2 [1.1, 1.2], females aOR: 1.1 [1.0, 1.1]; WC: males: aOR: 1.6 [1.4, 1.8], females: aOR: 1.3 [1.2, 1.5]). Although residing in urban settings was associated with higher odds of hypertension in both males (aOR: 1.79 [1.49, 2.16]) and females (aOR: 1.70 [1.49, 1.95]), it was only associated with prediabetes/diabetes in males (aOR: 1.56 [1.25, 1.96]). Males and females in pastoralist areas had lower odds of prediabetes/diabetes compared with their agrarian counterparts (males: aOR: 0.27 [0.14, 0.52], females: aOR: 0.31 [0.16, 0.58]). Physical activity was associated with lower odds of prediabetes/diabetes among females (aOR: 0.75 [0.58, 0.97]). Other diet‐related modifiable factors such as consumption of fruit and vegetable, alcohol or salt were not associated with either prediabetes/diabetes or hypertension. Our findings highlight the need to implement interventions that prevent overweight/obesity and nutrition‐related NCDs, particularly in urban areas. Anaemia in women of reproductive age (WRA) can be effectively addressed if supported by a better understanding of the spatial variations, magnitude, severity and distribution of anaemia. This study aimed to map the subnational spatial distribution of anaemia (any, moderate and severe forms) among WRA in Ethiopia. We identified and mapped (any, moderate and severe) anaemia hotspots in WRA (n = 14,923) at the subnational level and identified risk factors using multilevel logistic regression. Kulldorff scan statistics were used to identify hotspot regions. Ordinary kringing was used to predict the anaemia prevalence in unmeasured areas. The overall anaemia prevalence increased from 16.6% in 2011 to 23.6% in 2016, a rise that was mostly related to the widening of existing hotspot areas. The primary clusters of (any) anaemia were in Somali and Afar regions. The horn of the Somali region represented a cluster of 330 km where 10% of WRA were severely anaemic. The Oromia–Somali border represented a significant cluster covering 247 km, with 9% severe anaemia. Population‐dense areas with low anaemia prevalence had high absolute number of cases. Women education, taking iron‐folic‐acid tablets during pregnancy and birth‐delivery in health facilities reduced the risk of any anaemia (P < 0.05). The local‐level mapping of anaemia helped identify clusters that require attention but also highlighted the urgent need to study the aetiology of anaemia to improve the effectiveness and safety of interventions. Purpose: This study aims to assess nurses' communication with the patient and associated factors at East Gojjam Zone governmental hospitals, Amhara Region, Ethiopia, 2022. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study design was conducted among 378 study participants, from April 20/2022 to May 30/2022 at East Gojjam Zone governmental hospitals, Amhara Region, Ethiopia, 2022. A simple random sampling technique was utilized to select nurses from each hospital. Nurses' communication with the patient was measured by observation and a standardized checklist. The data were entered into Epidata version 4.6 and then exported to the Statistical software package for social science (SPSS) version 25 for analysis. A binary logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with the nurse's communication with the patient. Variables with p-value ≤ 0.25 in the bivariable analysis were entered into the multivariable analysis. Thus, the association was considered statistically significant with a p-value < 0.05 at a 95% confidence interval. Results: A total of 378 nurses participated in the study, with a response rate of 96.4%. Out of this 215 (56.9%), with 95% CI (51.86– 61.89%), had ineffective communication with the patient. In multivariable analysis, variables such as lower education level [AOR: 1.90, 95% CI (1.175– 3.096)], shorter work experience [AOR: 2.163, 95% CI (1.143– 4.091)], not taken communication skill training [AOR: 2.154, 95% CI (1.341– 3.458)] and higher work overload [AOR: 2.084, 95% CI (1.255– 3.460)] were factors significantly associated with ineffective communication. Conclusion and Recommendation: In this study, nearly 57% of nurses' had ineffective communication with the patient. Lower education level, shorter work experience, not taken communication skill training, and higher work overload are significantly associated with ineffective communication. Hospital authorities and other health-sector stakeholders should consider providing continuous communication skill training, adequate educational opportunities for nurses, and recruiting an adequate number of nurses. Background: Globally, road traffic accidents cause around 50 million injuries and disabilities and close to 1.35 million deaths every year. In Ethiopia, approximately five thousand deaths are estimated to occur annually due to road traffic accidents. However, there is limited data on the precise burden of the problem in Ethiopia. This study aimed to assess the magnitude of road traffic accidents and associated factors among traumatized patients who visited the emergency units of selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study design was conducted on 381 trauma patients who visited the emergency department of three public hospitals in Addis Ababa between June 1 and July 12, 2022. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire, entered into Epi-data, and exported to SPSS for statistical analysis. A logistic regression model was used to identify factors contributing to road traffic accidents at a significant level of P < 0.05. Results: The majority of participants were males (73.5%), between 20 and 39 years old (65.1%), and married (45.7%). The prevalence of road traffic accidents among traumatized patients was 37.3% (95% CI: 32.5, 42.3) in public hospitals in Addis Ababa. After adjusting for potential confounders, being male [AOR (95% CI) = 2.77 (1.6, 4.8)], traveling in the afternoon [AOR (95% CI) = 0.6 (0.3, 0.9)], and alcohol-drinking before travel [AOR (95% CI) = 2.50 (1.6, 4.0)] were factors contributing to road traffic accidents. Conclusion: The prevalence of road traffic accidents was very high in Addis Ababa public hospitals. Being male, traveling in the afternoon, and drinking alcohol before travel were significantly associated with an increased risk of road traffic accidents. Community awareness creation, strict traffic flow control in the morning, and alcohol breath tests will ultimately decrease road traffic accidents. Background: Ethiopia's viral suppression rate was less than 90% by 2020, and more than 10% of adult clients on ART in Woliso Town were unsuppressed at the end of March 2022. This study aims to identify determinants of virologic failure among adult clients on ART at health facilities in Oromia region of Ethiopia. Methods: A facility-based unmatched case-control study was conducted at health facilities in Oromia region from August 1 to September 1, 2022. The study cases were clients with virologic-confirmed first-line ART failure, while controls were clients on first-line ART with a suppressed viral load. A total of 135 cases and 268 control participants were selected using simple random sampling techniques, and data were collected by reviewing the client's document. Epi-Info7 was used for data entry and SPSS version 20 for data analysis. Variables having a P-value of less than 0.25 in the bi-variable analysis were included in multivariable logistic regression. Determinants of virologic failure were determined based on an adjusted odds ratio using 95% CI and a P-value of < 0.05. Result: In this study, clients with an age ≥ 35 years (AOR = 3.4, 95% CI: 1.6, 7.0), clients with a baseline regimen of AZT + 3TC + NVP (AOR = 3.5, 95% CI: 1.4, 8.8), clients with a base-line CD4 count < 350 mm3 (AOR = 2.3, 95% CI: 1.1, 4.5), being single marital status (AOR = 3.7, 95% CI: 1.4, 10.5), TB-HIV coinfection (AOR = 2.58, 95% CI: 1.3, 5.1), and having opportunistic infection other than TB in the last six months (AOR = 3.06, 95% CI: 1.5, 6.3) were factors significantly associated with virologic failure while clients within the appointment spacing model (AOR = 0.05, 95% CI: 0.03, 0.10) is inversely associated with virologic failure. Conclusion: This study showed that age ≥ 35 years, being single, baseline ART regimen with (AZT + 3TC + NVP), baseline CD4 cell count < 350 mm3, Tb-co infection, and opportunistic infection in the last 6 months were factors associated with virologic failure. Background: Hospital sanitation workers (SWs) are exposed to numerous occupational hazards due to workplace conditions such as unsafe and unhygienic working environment in the hospitals. Therefore, knowing magnitude, types and source of occupational hazard exposures with their determinants are very significant for further mitigations. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study design was conducted in public hospitals, eastern Ethiopia from 1st May to August 30th, 2023. 809 SWs participated. Data was entered into Epi Data Version 3.1 and Stata 17MP version used for analysis. Descriptive analysis was applied to describe the data. While, multilevel logistic regression was explored to determine the association between outcome and independents among at individual level (model 1), at hospitals (model 2) and combination of the two (model 3). The crude odds ratio (COR) and adjusted odds ratio (AOR) for models 2 and 3 were reported. Variables with an AOR with a 95% confidence interval (CI) at a p-value < 0.05 were reported. Result: Out of 809 SWs, 729 (90.11%) responded. The overall magnitude of self-reported occupational hazard exposures among SWs was 63.65% (95% CI 0.60–0.67). Of this, biological, chemical, and ergonomic hazards accounted for 82.44%, 74.76%, and 70.92%, respectively. The multilevel logistic regression shows that having social recognition (AOR: 0.37, 95% CI 0.14, 0.91), neutral attitude (AOR: 0.48, 95% CI 0.17, 1.41) as compared to negative attitude. The model also found that SWs those supervised could reduce the likelihood of occupational hazard exposures by 50% times (AOR: 0.50, 95% CI 0.18, 1.38) as compared to non-supervised SWs. The final model predicted the variation of occupational hazard exposures among sanitary workers from the hospitals to hospitals was 26.59%. Conclusions: The concluded that hospital sanitary workers are facing biological, chemical, ergonomic, physical, psychological, mechanical, and electrical hazards. This study's findings predicted that dissatisfied with their environment, working more than 8 hr per a day, a negative attitude towards workplace risks and inadequate supervision may serve as contributing factors for the likelihood of occupational hazard exposures among these groups. Thus, the study suggested that hospitals could reduce these hazard risks if they implement the Risk Assessment and Safety Management (RASM) model, which includes multi-modal strategies, indicators and tripartite philosophy. Background: Urinary tract infection is the single most common bacterial infection of mankind. Objective: To assess the risk factors and prevalence of Urinary tract infection among pregnant women attending antenatal care at Wachemo University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Central Ethiopia, 2023. Methods: An institutional-based cross-sectional study design was conducted from 2 October to 29 December 2023. The total sample size was 405 and a systematic random sampling technique was used. Data were entered using the Epi-data 3.1 version and exported to SPSS 25 for analysis. Multicollinearity was checked. The goodness of fit test was done using the Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test. Binary logistic regression analysis was done, and variables with a p -value of <0.25 in the bivariable analysis were taken into the multivariable analysis. Statistical significance was declared at a p -value of <0.05 with an adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence interval. Result: The prevalence of urinary tract infection was 40.7% with 95%CI [36.5–45.2]. Rural resident [AOR: 2.32, 95% CI: 1.36–3.96], educational status of husband no formal education [AOR: 3.38, 95% CI: 1.24–9.21], educational status of husband primary level [AOR: 2.94, 95% CI: 1.06–8.18], having vaginal bleeding [AOR: 3.89, 95%CI: 1.78–8.47], having female genital mutation [AOR: 2.98, 95%CI: 1.83–4.84], itchiness around genitalia [AOR: 3.82, 95%CI: 1.14–12.82], and using water for cleaning after defecation [AOR: 0.46, 95%CI: 0.22–0.97] were significantly associated. Conclusion: Four in ten pregnant women attending antenatal care had urinary tract infections. Residence, educational status of the husband, vaginal bleeding, female genital mutation, itchiness around genitalia, and mode of cleaning after defecation were significantly associated. Therefore, creating awareness for rural women, improving the educational status of husbands', treatment of vaginal bleeding, avoiding female genital mutation, screening and treating itchiness around genitalia, and using water for cleaning after defecation might reduce the burden. Introduction: Contraceptive switching from a more effective to a less effective method is a concern, especially in developing countries with high unmet needs for family planning. Indeed, the lack of understanding regarding the reasons behind contraceptive switching behavior in the study area poses a significant challenge in effectively addressing this issue. Objective: This study aimed to assess the magnitude and factors associated with long-acting contraceptive switching in Mizan-Aman town, southwest Ethiopia. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 345 women randomly selected from the population of married women in their reproductive age group. Data collection was conducted through interviewer-administered questionnaires. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were employed to ascertain factors linked with contraceptive method switching status. Statistical significance was determined at a P -value of less than.05. Results: Out of the 345 participants interviewed, the prevalence of switching from long-acting to short-acting contraceptives was 28.4%, 95% CI (13.6%, 33.2%). Upon adjusting for confounding variables, factors significantly associated with contraceptive switching included women aged 31–35 [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 0.58; 95% CI (0.36, 0.74)] and aged 41–49 [AOR = 0.54; 95% CI (0.48, 0.82)], those with formal education [AOR = 0.79; 95% CI (0.52, 0.87)], those desiring future pregnancy [AOR = 2.12; 95% CI (1.98, 3.38)], experiencing complications from previous method use [AOR = 3.67; 95% CI (2.57, 7.40)], and encountering stockouts of their preferred contraceptive choice [AOR = 2.01; 95% CI (1.39, 3.24)]. Conclusion and recommendation: The study area exhibited a notable prevalence of switching from long-acting contraceptives. Complications arising from prior method use and the unavailability of preferred contraceptive options emerged as significant factors influencing this switching behavior. Background: Sexually transmitted infection is a common public health issue of youths and is characteristically transmitted through sexual intercourse. Even though early treatment for sexually transmitted infection is very important to reduce further complications and economic burden, studies to identify the proportion and the possible factor of early treatment seeking is rare in Ethiopia. Objective: To assess the proportion of early treatment seeking for sexually transmitted infections and associated factors among patients attending youth friendly service in Bahir Dar city health centers, northwest, Ethiopia 2023. Method: Institutional based Cross-sectional study was used among 407 participants from April 25 to May 24 /2023. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select the participants. An interview-administered questionnaire was used for data collection, whereas Epi-data version 4.6.0.2 and the statistical package for statistical science version 23 were used for data entry and analysis respectively. A frequency table and bar chart were used for descriptive analysis. Multiple binary logistic regression was employed to identify the factors at p-value of <0.05. The necessary assumption of the model was also checked by the Hosmer and Lemishow test. Results: The response rate of this study was 391 (96.1%) and the proportion of early treatment for sexually transmitted infection was 108 (27.6%, 95%CI; 23-32). Good knowledge about sexually transmitted infection (AOR=1.98, 95CI%; 1.13-3.47) know about their HIV status (AOR=1.95, 95%CI; 1.13-3.36), perceive severity of sexually transmitted infection (AOR=11.23, 95%CI; 6.15-20.45), and not fear the stigma about being infected with sexually transmitted infection (AOR=2.29, 95%CI; 1.32-3.96) were the significantly associated factors for early treatment of sexually transmitted infection. Conclusion and recommendation: The proportion of early treatment for sexually transmitted infection in Bahir Dar city was low. Knowledge about STIs, testing/ knowing HIV status, perception of the severity about sexually transmitted infection, and fear of stigma about sexually transmitted infection were the statistically significant factors for early treatment of sexually transmitted infection. So the government better give attention to health education and other health promotion activities to increase the knowledge of youths about sexually transmitted infection and to change their perception of sexually transmitted infection. Background: The interaction between the patient and the ventilator is often disturbed, resulting in patient-ventilator asynchrony (PVA). Asynchrony can lead to respiratory failure, increased artificial ventilation time, prolonged hospitalization, and escalated healthcare costs. Professionals' knowledge regarding waveform analysis has significant implications for improving patient outcomes and minimizing ventilation-related adverse events. Studies investigating the knowledge of healthcare professionals on patient-ventilator asynchrony and its associated factors in the Ethiopian context are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the knowledge of healthcare professionals about using waveform analysis to detect asynchrony. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted on 237 healthcare professionals (HCPs) working in the intensive care units (ICUs) of federal public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from December 2022 to May 2023. The data were collected using a structured and pretested interviewer-administered questionnaire. Then, the collected data were cleaned, coded, and entered into Epi data V-4.2.2 and exported to SPSS V-27 for analysis. After description, associations were analyzed using binary logistic regression. Variables with a P-value of < 0.25 in the bivariable analysis were transferred to the multivariable analysis. Statistical significance was declared using 95% confidence intervals, and the strengths of associations were reported using adjusted odds ratios (AORs). Results: A total of 237 HCPs participated in the study with a response rate of 100%. Half (49.8%) of the participants were females. The mean age of the participants was 29 years (SD = 3.57). Overall, 10.5% (95% CI: 6.9–15.2) of the participants had good knowledge of detecting PVA using waveform analysis. In the logistic regression, the number of MV-specific trainings and the training site had a statistically significant association with knowledge of HCPs. HCPs who attended more frequent MV training were more likely to have good knowledge than their counterparts [AOR = 6.88 (95% CI: 2.61–15.45)]. Additionally, the odds of good knowledge among professionals who attended offsite training were 2.6 times higher than those among professionals trained onsite [AOR = 2.63 (95% CI: 1.36–7.98)]. Conclusion: The knowledge of ICU healthcare professionals about the identification of PVA using waveform analysis is low. In addition, the study also showed that attending offsite MV training and repeated MV training sessions were independently associated with good knowledge. Background: A negative attitude towards abortion among health care providers providing abortion services could be an obstacle even under a law, which permits abortion on request. Healthcare providers are expected to perform and be change agents of abortion services. However, little information is known about the attitude toward safe abortion among healthcare providers in Ethiopia. Objective: This study aimed to assess health care provider's attitudes towards safe abortion care and its associated factors at the public health facilities of Bahir Dar City, Northwest Ethiopia. Methods: A health facility-based cross-sectional study was employed from March 1 to 30/2021 among 416 health-care providers. The data were collected by computer-based generated simple random sampling technique, entered, coded, and cleaned using Epi data version 4.2 and analyzed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences version 25.0. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were employed to estimate the crude and adjusted odds ratio with a confidence interval of 95% and a P-value of less than 0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: The response rate of the study was 99.3%, and 70.2% [95% CI: 65.6–74.6] of health-care providers had a favorable attitude towards safe abortion care. Multivariable analysis indicated that health care providers who are found in the age group of 25–29, 30–34, and ≥ 35 years [AOR = 3.34, 95% CI = 1.03–10.85], [AOR = 4.58, 95% CI = 1.33- 15.83] and [AOR = 5.30, 95% CI = 1.43–19.66] respectively, male health care providers [AOR = 3.20, 95% CI = 1.55–6.60], midwives [AOR = 6.50, 95% CI = 2.40–17.44], working at hospital [AOR = 4.77, 95% CI = 1.53–14.91], ever trained on safe abortion [AOR = 5.09, 95% CI = 2.29–11.32], practicing of an abortion procedure [AOR = 2.52, 95%, CI = 1.13–5.60], knowledge of abortion [AOR = 7.35, 95% CI = 3.23–16.71], awareness on revised abortion law [AOR = 6.44, 95% CI = 3.15–13.17] and need further legalization of abortion law [AOR = 11.78, 95% CI = 5.52–24.26] were associated with a favorable attitude towards safe abortion care. Conclusions: Healthcare providers who had a favorable attitude toward safe abortion care were relatively high compared to the previous studies. Age, sex, profession, workplace, training, knowledge, and practice-related factors were associated with a favorable attitude toward safe abortion. This study indicated that, a need for intervention to help improve the attitude of healthcare providers toward safe abortion care, especially for those working in the maternity care units. Background: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a major public health challenge in Ethiopia. The objective of this review was to assess the pooled magnitude of MTCT of HIV and its risk factors among mother-infant pairs who initiated antiretroviral therapy (ART) after Option B+ in Ethiopia. Methods: A systematic search of literature from PubMed, Hinari, African Journals Online (AJOL), Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases was conducted from June 11, 2013 to August 1, 2023. The authors used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines to guide the article selection process and reporting. Observational studies that reported the magnitude and/or risk factors on MTCT of HIV among mother-infant pairs who initiated ART after the implementation of Option B+ in Ethiopia were included. We applied a random-effect model meta-analysis to estimate the overall pooled magnitude and risk factors of MTCT of HIV. A funnel plot and Egger's regression test were employed to check publication bias, and heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistics. The protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database with registration ID number CRD42022325938. Result: Eighteen published articles on the magnitude of MTCT and 16 published articles on its risk factors were included in this review. The pooled magnitude of MTCT of HIV after the Option B+ program in Ethiopia was 4.05% (95% CI 3.09, 5.01). Mothers who delivered their infants at home [OR: 9.74; (95% CI: 6.89–13.77)], had not been on ART intervention [OR: 19.39; (95% CI: 3.91–96.18)], had poor adherence to ART [OR: 7.47; (95% CI: 3.40–16.45)], initiated ART during pregnancy [OR: 5.09; (95% CI: 1.73–14.97)], had WHO clinical stage 2 and above [OR: 4.95; (95% CI: 1.65–14.88]], had a CD4 count below 350 at enrolment [OR: 5.78; (95% CI: 1.97–16.98], had no or low male partner involvement [OR: 5.92; (95% CI: 3.61–9.71]] and whose partner was not on ART [OR: 8.08; (95% CI: 3.27–19.93]] had higher odds of transmitting HIV to their infants than their counterparts. Conclusion: This review showed that the pooled magnitude of MTCT of HIV among mother-infant pairs who initiated ART after the Option B + program in Ethiopia is at the desired target of the WHO, which is less than 5% in breastfeeding women. Home delivery, lack of male partner involvement, advanced HIV-related disease, lack of PMTCT intervention, and poor ARV adherence were significant risk factors for MTCT of HIV in Ethiopia. Background. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with significant mortality and morbidity from stroke and thromboembolism. Despite the availability of effective oral anticoagulation medication, AF patients remain at a high risk of stroke if not treated properly. The purpose of this study was to evaluate antithrombotic therapy practices in patients with AF in the adult cardiac clinic at Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (HUCSH). Methods. It was a retrospective document review study. Total charts of 119 patients who had follow‐up at the adult cardiac clinic with a history of documented AF from January 1 to December 30, 2018, were included. Indicators for antithrombotic therapy based on the congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 (doubled), diabetes, stroke (doubled), vascular disease, age 65 to 74, and sex category (female) (CHA2DS2‐VASc) score were recorded. A p value of 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Data analysis was done using SPSS 23 software. Results. In this study, about 55% of patients with AF were receiving the appropriate antithrombotic treatment. The patients were 48 ± 18.2 years old. Of these, 70% were women. The most frequent underlying cardiac etiology was chronic rheumatic valvular heart disease (50%), followed by cardiomyopathy (14%). In nonvalvular AF, the mean CHA2DS2VASc score was 4.0 ± 1.07. In valvular AF compared to nonvalvular AF, the need for appropriate antithrombotic therapy was substantially greater (p 0.0001). Only 8 (13.6%) of the warfarin‐using patients had adequate anticoagulation. Conclusion. The study's findings in regard to antithrombotic usage and maintenance of appropriate antithrombotics for stroke prevention in our patients revealed a discrepancy between recommendations and practice. Therefore, we demand that patients with AF who meet the criteria utilize antithrombotics properly to prevent stroke. Warfarin‐taking patients' subpar optimum anticoagulation has to be addressed. Background: Palliative care, which aims to alleviate physical and emotional distress from cancer, is underutilized in many African healthcare systems. Therefore, there is a lack of data on the need and utilization of palliative care services among women with breast cancer in Ethiopia. Objectives: The goal of this study was to identify the level of need and utilization of palliative care services and identify associated factors among women in an oncology department of Hawassa comprehensive and specialized hospitals. Design: Hospital-based cross-sectional study. Methods: A total of 121 women age ⩾18 years old with breast cancer participated from 1 August to 30 October 2021. A hospital-based consecutive sampling technique was used. Data regarding the need and utilization of palliative care services were collected via questionnaire and interview, entered using EpiData 4.6.0.6, and analyzed by SPSS version 25. Variables with p < 0.25 were considered for multivariate analysis, and those with p < 0.05 indicate an association with palliative care utilization. Result: Seventy-two (59.5%) had worse utilization of palliative care services, with higher odds in rural areas (adjusted odds ratio = 11.82). Conclusion: The study findings indicated that more than half of the study participants had worse utilization of palliative care services, with rural living being a contributing factor. Background: Stress is a pervasive occurrence within certain professions, including nurses working in emergency and intensive care unit environments. Nurses in these settings often confront various stress-inducing factors, such as unsupportive management and distressing events like patient mortality, and experience notably higher levels of stress. Nevertheless, information is scarce regarding the precise level of stress in Ethiopia, particularly within southern hospitals. Objective: To assess stress levels and associated factors among nurses working in the critical care unit and emergency rooms at comprehensive specialized hospitals in southern Ethiopia, 2023. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional explanatory sequential mixed-method study was undertaken, involving a total of 239 nurses. For the quantitative component, all nurses working in intensive care units and emergency rooms were included as participants, while a purposive sampling technique was employed to select participants for the qualitative aspect. Data for the quantitative study were gathered through the utilization of self-administered questionnaires, while interviews were conducted using a structured interview guide for the qualitative portion. Quantitative data entry and analysis were performed using EpiDataV4.6 and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software, respectively. Thematic analysis of the qualitative data was conducted using the OpenCode software. Results: The level of stress among nurses in the emergency and intensive care units was low (19.3%), moderate (55.9%), and high (24.8%). Workload (Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 3.51, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.17–10.56) and time constraints (AOR = 2.5, 95% CI (1.03–6.07) were significantly associated with moderate stress level, while duty demands (AOR = 3.03, 95% CI (1.17–7.14), availability of medical equipment and supplies (AOR = 1.42, 95% CI (1.18–4.97), and witnessing death and dying (AOR = 2.34, 95% CI (1.13–5.88) were significantly associated with high-stress level. The qualitative data analysis revealed that the participants underscored the significant impact of organizational factors, individual factors, and profession-related factors on the stress levels experienced by nurses in emergency and critical care settings. Conclusion and recommendation: Based on the findings, the participants in this study experienced some level of stress, to varying degrees. Therefore, it is crucial to implement effective strategies such as optimizing staffing and workflow, improving communication and collaboration, providing adequate support and resources, leveraging technology and innovation, emphasizing patient-centered care, and implementing data-driven quality improvement to alleviate the burden. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of health education intervention (HEI) on maternal health service utilization (MHSU) in southern Ethiopia. Methods: From 10 January to 1 August 2023, a community-based, two-arm, parallel-group cluster randomized controlled trial (cRCT) was conducted among pregnant mothers in the Northern Zone of Sidama National Regional State, Ethiopia. We utilized multilevel mixed-effects modified Poisson regression with robust variance to control for the effects of clustering and potential confounders. The level of significance was adjusted for multiple comparisons. Results: The overall utilization of at least one antenatal care (ANC) visit was 90.2% in the treatment group and 59.5% in the comparator group (χ2 = 89.22, p < 0.001). Health facility delivery (HFD) utilization was considerably different between the treatment group (74.3%) and the comparator group (50.8%) (χ2 = 70.50, p < 0.001). HEI significantly increased ANC utilization (adjusted risk ratio [ARR]: 1.32; 99% CI: 1.12–1.56) and HFD utilization (ARR: 1.24; 99% CI: 1.06–1.46). The utilization of at least one postnatal care (PNC) service was 65.4% in the treatment group and 52.1% in the comparator group (χ2 = 19.51, p = 0.01). However, after controlling for the effects of confounders and clustering, the impact of HEI on PNC utilization was insignificant between the two groups (ARR: 1.15; 99% CI: 0.89–1.48). Conclusion: A community-based HEI significantly increased ANC and HFD utilization but did not increase PNC utilization. Background: Optimizing the performance level of nursing staff is crucial for the efficient functioning of hospitals and better patient health outcomes. However, published data on the job performance levels and associated factors of nurses in Ethiopia is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the job performance and associated factors of nurses working in adult emergency departments at selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from March 25 to April 25, 2023, among 172 nurses working in the adult emergency departments of selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. Data were collected using pretested, self-administered structured questionnaires. Data were coded, entered into Epi-data version 4.6, and analyzed using Statistical Package for Service Solution (SPSS) Version 27.0.1 software. Data were summarized using descriptive statistics, including mean, frequency, and standard deviation. A binary logistic regression analysis was done to determine factors associated with the performance of nurses. The strength of the association was measured using an adjusted odd ratio (AOR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI), and a P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The majority of nurses, 70.5% (95% CI: 63.7–77.3), rated their job performance as good. Workload [AOR = 1.70 (95% CI: 1.19–2.44)], remuneration [AOR = 1.89 (95% CI: 1.35–2.67)], rewards [AOR = 1.50 (95% CI: 1.01–2.23)], objectives to be achieved [AOR = 1.88 (95% CI: 1.32–2.67)], and feedback on performance appraisals [AOR = 1.65 (95% CI: 1.17–2.33)] were identified as significantly associated with nurses' performance. Conclusion: While the majority of nurses rated their job performance as good, it is important to note that a relevant proportion of nurses rated their job performance as poor. The findings of this study identified that nurses' performance is influenced by several key factors, including workload, remuneration, rewards, objectives to be achieved, and feedback on performance appraisals. Our findings call for improving nurses' job performance; therefore, hospitals should consider implementing systems that effectively utilize performance appraisal results and recognize and encourage hardworking nurses. Background: Elimination disorder occurs in children over the age of normal toileting who continue to have an inability to control urination or feces, either during the day, at night, or both. Paediatric elimination disorders are not well understood by parents, teachers, medical professionals, mental health practitioners, and researchers. Hence, this study aimed to assess the magnitude of elimination disorder and associated factors among children and Adolescents aged 5–14 years old at Wolaita Sodo University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, South Ethiopia, in 2022. Method: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted from September 22 to November 22, 2022, at Wolaita Sodo University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. A systematic random sampling technique was employed to select 423 study subjects. The data were gathered using a structured, face-to-face interviewer-administered questionnaire. The development of the symptom score for dysfunctional elimination syndrome of Vancouver questionnaires was used to screen for elimination disorders. Logistic regression model was used to determine the association between the outcome and independent variables. A 95% CI and Odds ratio with corresponding p-value < 0.05 were used to determine the predictors of the outcome variable. Result: The overall magnitude of elimination disorder among children and Adolescents age 5–14 in this study was (n 70, 16.8%); in boys (n 47, 17.3%) and girls (n 23, 15.75%). The prevalence of enuresis was (n 64, 15.3%), encopresis (n 15, 3.6%), both enuresis and encopresis, or combined elimination disorder (n 9, 2.2%). Age 9–11 years (AOR = 3.2, 95%CI:1.09, 9.43), family size four and above (AOR = 3.4, 95%CI:1.78, 6.56), family history of elimination disorder (AOR = 3.9, 95%CI:2.12, 7.45), emotional problem (AOR = 2.2, 95%CI:1.18, 4.05), hyperactive problem (AOR = 3.8, 95%CI:1.83, 7.83), low toilet training skills (AOR = 5.9, 95%CI:2.61, 13.33), bad parenting practices, were poor supervision (AOR = 4.4, 95%CI 1.29, 14.69) were significantly associated with elimination disorder. Conclusion and recommendation: In this study, approximately one in five children and adolescents had an elimination disorder. Younger age, family size four and above, positive family history of elimination disorder, presence of emotional and hyperactive problems, bad parenting practices, and low toilet training skills were factors associated with elimination disorders. Therefore, preventative, etiological, and therapeutic measure, early toilet training, supportive parenting practices, screening for children's and adolescents' behavioral problems, and elimination disorders need attention to reduce the effect of the problem. Background: In the context of healthcare, satisfaction is the attainment of adequate or acceptable treatment and serves as both a benchmark for quality and the ultimate objective of providing care. In neonatal care facilities, parent satisfaction is a key measure of the quality of the services offered to the newborns and aids in improving healthcare delivery. This is the first systematic review aiming to address critical knowledge gaps regarding factors influencing parental satisfaction with neonatal intensive care unit services, and determine pooled prevalence in Ethiopia. Methods: After comprehensive systematic search for full texts in the English language through an electronic web-based search strategy from databases of PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, African Journals Online, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar, included a total of 8 articles. Checklists from the Joanna Briggs Institute were used to assess the studies' quality of methodology. STATA version 14 software for windows was used for all statistical analyses and meta-analysis was done using a random-effects method. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to clarify the source of heterogeneity. Results: Pooled national level of parents' satisfaction with neonatal intensive unit service was 57.87% (95% CI (49.99, 65.75%)). Age of respondents and availability of chair were significantly associated with parents' satisfaction with neonatal intensive unit service. Conclusions and recommendation: In our review we found that nearly half of parents expressed dissatisfaction with neonatal intensive unit service, which is high. Age of respondents and availability of chair in neonatal intensive unit waiting area were significantly associated with neonatal intensive unit service. Efforts to enhance parental satisfaction with neonatal intensive unit services are crucial, given that nearly half of parents reported dissatisfaction. Background: To enhance patient satisfaction, nurses engaged in preoperative care must possess a comprehensive understanding of the most up-to-date evidence. However, there is a notable dearth of relevant information regarding the current status of preoperative care satisfaction and its impact, despite a significant rise in the number of patients seeking surgical intervention with complex medical requirements. Objective: To assess patient satisfaction with preoperative nursing care and its associated factors in surgical procedures of, 2023. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, and the data was collected from the randomly selected 468 patients who had undergone surgery during the study period. The collected data was entered into Epidata version 3.1 and analyzed using SPSS version 25 software. Results: The complete participation and response of 468 participants resulted in a response rate of 100%. Overall patient satisfaction with preoperative nursing care was 79.5%. Sex (Adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 1.14 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.21–2.91)), payment status for treatment (AOR: 1.45 (95% CI: 0.66–2.97)), preoperative fear and anxiety (AOR: 1.01, 95% CI: 0.49–2.13)), patient expectations (AOR: 3.39, 95% CI: 2.17–7.11)), and preoperative education (AOR: 1.148, 95% CI: 0.54–2.86)) exhibited significant associations with patient satisfaction with preoperative nursing care. Conclusion: It is important to exercise caution when interpreting the level of preoperative nursing care satisfaction in this study. The significance of preoperative nursing care satisfaction lies in its reflection of healthcare quality, as even minor deficiencies in preoperative care can potentially lead to life-threatening complications, including mortality. Introduction: Elderly individuals are the segment of the population that needs special care. The quality of care provided for elderly individuals is highly determined by the knowledge of nurses in elderly care. Hence, there are limited studies conducted to determine the level of knowledge of nurses regarding elderly care. Therefore, this study aimed to assess determinant factors of nurses' knowledge of elderly care. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study design was employed from April 1 to 10, 2021, among 345 nurses. Respondents were selected by a simple random sampling technique. The data were collected through a self-administered structured questionnaire. The collected data were entered and analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science software version 25.0. A multivariable binary logistic regression was used to identify factors significantly associated with the knowledge of nurses about elderly care. Result: The response rate of this study was 98.3%. More than half of the respondents were female (51.6%) and 38.3% were single in marital status. Being knowledgeable among nurses about elderly care was 51.9%. Ever living with the elderly (adjusted odd ratio [AOR]: 3.62; 95% CI: 1.661, 7.89) and taking geriatric care training (AOR: 5.209, 95% CI: 2.771, 9.79) were positively associated with the knowledge of nurses toward elderly care while work experience <5 years (AOR: 0.305; 95% CI: 0.134, 0,696), and work experience 5–10 years (AOR: 0.359; 95% CI: 0.15, 0.864) were negatively associated with the knowledge of nurses toward elderly care. Conclusion: The knowledge of nurses about elderly care was moderate. Ever lived with the elderly, work experience, and taking geriatric care training contributed to nurses' knowledge about elderly care. Introduction: Traumatic head injury (THI) poses a significant global public health burden, often contributing to mortality and disability. Intraoperative hypotension (IH) during emergency neurosurgery for THI can adversely affect perioperative outcomes, and understanding associated risk factors is essential for prevention. Method: A multi-center observational study was conducted from February 10 to June 30, 2022. A simple random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. Patient data were analyzed using bivariate and multivariate logistic regression to identify significant factors associated with intraoperative hypotension (IH). Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were used to show the strength of association, and P value < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Result: The incidence of intra-operative hypotension was 46.41% with 95%CI (39.2,53.6). The factors were duration of anesthesia ≥ 135 min with AOR: 4.25, 95% CI (1.004,17.98), severe GCS score with AOR: 7.23, 95% CI (1.098,47.67), intracranial hematoma size ≥ 15 mm with AOR: 7.69, 95% CI (1.18,50.05), and no pupillary abnormality with AOR: 0.061, 95% CI (0.005,0.732). Conclusion and recommendation: The incidence of intraoperative hypotension was considerably high. The duration of anesthesia, GCS score, hematoma size, and pupillary abnormalities were associated. The high incidence of IH underscores the need for careful preoperative neurological assessment, utilizing CT findings, vigilance for IH in patients at risk, and proactive management of IH during surgery. Background: Because of the rapidly rising cultural diversity, the ability to recognize cultural diversity is extremely important to all healthcare professionals, especially to nurses. However, there is a paucity of information regarding the cultural sensitivity of nurses in Ethiopia. Hence, this study aimed to assess cultural sensitivity and associated factors among nurses working at Jimma Medical Center, Oromia Regional State, Southwest Ethiopia. Methods: Health-facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 244 nurses selected by simple random sampling from May 20th to June 20th, 2020. A structured, self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were analysed using Statistical Product and Service Solution Version 26.0. Bivariate binary logistic regression analyses were used to select variables for the final model. Multivariable binary logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with cultural sensitivity. Statistical significance was declared at 0.05, and adjusted odds ratio with respective 95% CI was used to report significant covariates. Results: Out of the total sample, 236 nurses participated in this study, giving a response rate of 96.72%. Nurses who were culturally sensitive while delivering routine nursing services were found to be 40.3% (95% CI (34.3, 46.6)). Level of education ([AOR (95% CI)], [4.846 (1.188, 19.773)]), interpersonal communication ([AOR (95% CI)], [4.749 (1.334, 16.909)]), and intercultural communication ([AOR (95% CI)], [51.874 (13.768, 195.45)]) were positively and significantly associated with the cultural sensitivity of nurses. Conclusion: Cultural sensitivity is found to be low in the study area. Increasing level of education, effective interpersonal communication abilities, and intercultural communication abilities positively predict cultural sensitivity of nurses. Background: Intravenous cannula-related infections are one of the leading causes of healthcare-associated infections. It leads to morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Nurses play a significant role in the prevention of these infections. Whereas in Ethiopia, there is limited information and published studies done on nurses' knowledge, practice, and associated factors and also most of other available studies done only the magnitude it lack associated factors. The purpose of this study was to assess nurses' knowledge, practice, and associated factors toward intravenous cannula-related infection prevention. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted at Northwest Amhara Regional State Comprehensive Specialized Hospitals on May 1-30/2022. By using single population proportion formula the sample size was determined; we used a 50% proportion value (0.05), and 95% Confidence Interval 5% margin of error. A simple random sampling method was used to select 423 nurses. The data were collected by using structured pretested self-administered questionnaires. Then coded, and enter into epi-data version 4.6 and exported into the statistical package for social science version 23 for cleaning and analyzing the data. Data were presented by texts, tables, and figures. A binary logistic regression model was used to assess the association between variables. Based on the adjusted odds ratio, variables having a p-value less than 0.05 with a 95% confidence interval were used to state associated with the outcome variables. Results: A total of 412 nurses participated in this study with 97.4% response rate. The participants had good knowledge and practice in proportions of (54. 9%) and (53. 4%) respectively. Being male, working wards/units, having training, and a higher educational level were factors that were significantly associated to having good knowledge. Working wards/units, having good knowledge, training, and access to guidelines were significantly associated with performing good practice. Conclusion: The finding of this study revealed that nearly half of the nurses had poor knowledge and practice in intravenous cannula-related infection prevention. As a result, hospital administrators and other concerned stakeholders better to prepare and ensure that guidelines are available, provide training, and develop the educational levels of nurses.
