This paper presents a numerical investigation of the effect of wing integration on the aerodynamic behavior of a typical large civil aero-engine exhaust system at wind-milling flow conditions. The work is based on the dual stream jet propulsion (DSJP) test rig, as will be tested within the transonic wind tunnel (TWT) located at the aircraft research association (ARA) in the UK. The DSJP rig was designed to measure the impact of the installed pressure field due to the effect of the wing on the aerodynamic performance of separate-jet exhausts. The rig is equipped with the dual separate flow reference nozzle (DSFRN), installed under a swept wing. Computational fluid dynamic simulations were carried out for representative ranges of fan and core nozzle pressure ratios (CNPR) for "engine-out" wind-milling scenarios at end of runway (EOR) takeoff, diversion, and cruise conditions. Analyses were done for both isolated and installed configurations to quantify the impact of the installed pressure field on the fan and core nozzle discharge coefficients. The impact of fan and core nozzle pressure ratios, as well as freestream Mach number and high-lift surfaces on the installed suppression effect, was also evaluated. It is shown that the installed pressure field can reduce the fan nozzle discharge coefficient by up to 16%, relative to the isolated configuration for EOR wind-milling conditions. E-waste generation has broadly increased worldwide and is called intense pressure on sustainable practice implementation firms by recycling and redesigning the products. Thus, e-waste operation management in developed countries like the UK has become the top priority and is subjected to multiple sustainable circular economies (CE) contributing factors, including social, technical, environmental, and governmental policies. The authorized decision-makers can benefit from a well-established systematic decision-making tool to assess and evaluate the e-waste operation management considering the potential CE contributing factors. An extensive literature overview is expanded to identify the most relevant and influential contributing factors to e-waste CE. The city of London Metropolitan has been selected as the case location. In this regard, it is necessary to utilize an advanced multi-criteria decision-making tool to explore the interdependency and causality of CE-relevant factors. The present study proposed an innovative decision-making approach to address the multiple contributing factors of causality, interdependency, data, and model uncertainty in practice. It uses the step-wise weighted influence nonlinear gauge system method integrated with Fermatean fuzzy linguistic sets. This study conducted a sensitivity analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed decision-making approach in e-waste operation management. The results are promising, clearly demonstrating the framework's competence. The CE index, crucial in designing e-waste operation management strategies, was calculated to be 2.8036. Among the various factors analyzed, "Environmental Management Systems" emerged as the most significant driving factor. Wings are one of the engineering components that play a vital role in the aerospace industry. Therefore, increasing the performance of the wings can improve the overall performance of the airplanes. One way to increase wing performance is to use sinusoidal curvature at the attack edge and wing escape, which delays the phenomenon of fatigue and improves aerodynamic performance at high attack angles. This study is to provide a better understanding of the aerodynamic characteristics of a finite NACA0012 wing with the performance of a wing with different types of wings with sinusoidal attack edge, sinusoidal escape edge, and compared them with simple wing. ANSYS FLUENT method has been used to simulate the wings. In addition to, the TRANSITION SST-4EQ method has also been used to solve the governing equations. The aerodynamic performance of a wing with the performance of different types of wings with sinusoidal attack edge, sinusoidal escape edge, and simple wing with NACA0012 cross section are investigated in Reynolds numbers of 5000, 15000 and 60,000 numerically. The kinetic energy distribution of turbulence on the wing body in these Reynolds numbers has been investigated. The amount of coefficients for and after different wings in Reynolds number 15000 with changing angle has been analyzed. In unstable conditions, compressibility and non-viscosity have been compared. According to the present study, it was observed that the maximum pressure around the wing is sinusoidal and the wing with a combined design is higher than the simple wing. The aerodynamics and flowfield of a rectangular semiwing equipped with four four-bladed propellers and a 40%-chord full-span plain trailing-edge flap were investigated by using force balance and particle image velocimetry (PIV). The distributed electric propulsion (DEP) wing was tilted from zero to 90-deg angle of attack. The maximum lift coefficient, lift-curve slope, and stall angle of the DEP wing were found to increase significantly with increasing propeller rotation. The DEP wing also exhibited a gradual stall in contrast to the sudden stall of the baseline wing. The lift coefficient of the DEP wing positioned vertically at 90 deg was also found to be greatly increased with increasing propeller rotation. Regardless of the magnitude of propeller rotation, the general pattern and behavior of the lift curve were consistent. The deployment of the flap led to a further increase in the maximum lift coefficient and lift-curve slope but an earlier stall and an increased drag of the DEP wing as compared to the unflapped wing. The flap deflection also led to a lowered lift coefficient in the poststall angle-of-attack regime as compared to the unflapped DEP wing. Gurney flap was also employed to further increase the lift generation of the DEP wing. The lift augmentation produced by the propeller slipstream was supplemented by the PIV flowfield measurements. The transformation of the fore wings into strongly sclerotized protective covers (elytra) is considered a fundamental evolutionary innovation of the megadiverse order Coleoptera. Surprisingly, these multifunctional structures have been reduced in many distantly related groups of beetles. Patterns, drivers and the evolutionary implications of this modification have never been comprehensively discussed. In the present study, we surveyed the entire order Coleoptera to analyse the patterns of elytral shortening and loss, with a special focus on prevalence, forms, degree of reduction and the functional background of this significant deviation from the coleopteran ground plan. Our analysis revealed that about 20% of all extant species (roughly 88,000 out of 442,275 spp.), distributed across all four suborders, have shortened or even absent elytra. The elytral loss was more frequent within the polyphagan series Elateriformia and Staphyliniformia. Moreover, we found that elytral reduction has independently occurred multiple times in the evolutionary history of Coleoptera and that it has been driven by a wide array of selective drivers. One of the main drivers is the improved flexibility of the uncovered abdomen and the correlated increased manoeuvrability in narrow spaces, as well as the option of using the flexible abdomen as a steering organ or to facilitate mating. Another common driver is mimicry, where exposed metathoracic wings potentially improve the overall similarity to hymenopteran models. Exposure of the abdomen can facilitate the targeted release of defensive abdominal gland secretions and was most likely a crucial step towards establishing relations with social insects enhanced by chemical communication. In the Elateriformia, and rarely in other lineages, elytral loss is a consequence of paedomorphosis, related to a specific resource‐allocation strategy. In many groups of beetles with reduced elytra, alternative defensive strategies can be found. This includes, for instance, aposematic coloration, chemical defence, mimicry or bioluminescence. Direct drivers of elytral loss in many groups remain unclear, and more studies are needed to understand the evolutionary background and implications of this significant morphological modification in Coleoptera. The objective of this review paper is to identify the gap in finding out the direction toward the enhancement of heat transfer and the performance of heat exchangers. Heat exchangers can be found in many applications ranging from engineering devices to household consumer appliances. Heat exchangers must offer a good heat transfer performance apart from saving energy. Heat transfer enhancement techniques help to save energy and cool hot components in the design of electronic and mechanical circuits. However, enhancement in heat transfer takes place at the cost of a bearable increase in friction losses and pressure drop. Therefore, miniature heat exchanger systems and the cost of energy, motivate industries to use energy-saving methods in their design. With aging, the most common problem in heat exchangers is the reduction in heat transfer rate. Numerous studies have proved that placing a disturbance occurs in the fluid flow path and it can help to increase the heat transfer rate in the case of worn-out heat exchangers. For decades, researchers are numerically investigating the effects of various kinds of insert tape to improve the heat transfer operation in the heat exchangers. As heat exchangers form the backbone of many industrial processes, the idea of saving energy with the design of a cost-effective tape insert motivated us to work on this area of research. The paper proposes the new model of heat exchanger with an insert having a trapezoidal cut on both sides of an insert and using the different ratios of twist experimentation that will perform and compare the output with the previous studies by using different fluid or phase change materials as a fluid to maximize the performance of heat transfer rate. Also, it aims to find out the impact on friction factor as well pressure drop in the heat exchanger when there is a change in ratios of twist. This research aims to review the findings of earlier researchers in this area and to utilize the knowledge for improving the heat transfer rate of conventional tubes in our future work.

Promotion of altruistic behaviour in organisations to foster larger, socially responsible considerations to avoid the self-centred mentality is crucial nowadays. Examining how different factors work together to support a comprehensive solution that inspires self-transformation and leads to altruistic behaviour would be instructive. Altruistic behaviour built due to yoga-based practices was identified from the past literature and is finalised based on the Fuzzy Delphi method. The WINGS method has developed the contextual relationship between the identified behaviours. The results revealed that self-transcendence has a greater impact on others for altruistic behaviour followed by psychological capital and emotional intelligence which is found to be the prime causal factor. This study will assist management practitioners and institutions in identifying the behaviours and conducting the yoga-based practice in their organization. The study will also contribute to developing efficient, long-lasting, and successful training materials for encouraging altruistic conduct among management staff.

Channelization of energy improves the ability of a thermal management system. Pin fins are commercially used in various heat sink applications due to their optimum performance. The present study evaluates a pin fin heat sink (PFHS) using an entropy generation approach. Inline and staggered pin fins with wings are compared with the conventional pin fins for the pin–fin pitch ratio (PFPR) of 2–4 and the wing length ratio (WLR) of 0.2–0.6 in the Reynolds number range of 6800 to 15,100. The total entropy generation decreases with the increase in PFPR and the decrease in WLR. The minimum thermal and frictional entropy generation corresponds to the PFPR of 4 for both inline and staggered pin–fin arrangements. The maximum and minimum total entropy generation are found at the PFPR of 2 (for inline) and 4 (for staggered), respectively. The flies of different families that the flies which act as the main sources of annoyance to both humans and animals, as well as being direct vectors of many pathogens, its indeed need to do this study to check for the presence of these flies within the animal environment near the sources of food and water, in addition to their presence close to animals or on their bodies. As indicated from the results of the present study of morphological or formal specification for Musca, Lucilia, Chrysoma, Stomoxys, and Parasarchophaga, which were collected from cowsheds from AL-Saada and Baawyza and Al-Shalalaat areas in Mosul city. The current study focused on the morphological features of flies collected to achieve guideline evidence with images taken under the stereoscopic dissecting microscope. Three families and seven species of dipteran flies' morphological specifications have been revealed in this research with the help of taxonomic keys particularly; wing venation, number of strips on the thorax, color of head, thorax, and abdomen with colored hairy of the flies and antennae, as well as an activity note of flies during the day and peak of this activity in the noon hours, especially in the warm months in which the study took place, like April and May and the daylight time (sunrise at 4:52-5:57 am, the sunset at 6:29-7:17 pm) characterized encouraging for light action of flies families.

The wings, legs, and tail in Darwin's finches show many clear adaptations to different types of locomotion used during foraging. We use size scaling to analyse how various characters vary with body mass to clarify dimensional relationships. The selective advantage of a character is judged in terms of energy savings. The wing aspect ratio (4.6–4.9) is very low, so the energy costs for flight are high. Low body mass , low wing loading , and short arm wings in the warbler finch, small tree finch, and small ground finch promote agility and manoeuvrability among vegetation, along with short wings in the warbler finch. Evolution towards a shorter arm wing seems to be favoured in the smaller finch species. Long legs , long toes , and long curved claws are adaptations for climbing/clinging locomotion without tail support (woodpecker finch, small and large tree finches, cactus finch but having short legs). Selection for longer legs seems to act towards a lengthening of the tarsometatarsus. The climbing technique in the woodpecker finch is described. Natural surfaces with remarkable properties and functionality have become the focus of intense research. Heretofore, the natural antimicrobial properties of insect wings have inspired research into their applications. The wings of cicadas, butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies have evolved phenomenal anti-biofouling and antimicrobial properties. These wings are covered by periodic topography ranging from highly ordered hexagonal arrays of nanopillars to intricate “Christmas-tree” like structures with the ability to kill microbes by physically rupturing the cell membrane. In contrast, the topography of honeybee wings has received less attention. The role topography plays in antibiofouling, and antimicrobial activity of honeybee wings has never been investigated. Here, through antimicrobial and electron microscopy studies, we showed that pristine honeybee wings displayed no microbes on the wing surface. Also, the wings displayed antimicrobial properties that disrupt microbial cells and inhibit their growth. The antimicrobial activities of the wings were extremely effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative bacterial cells when compared to Gram-positive bacterial cells. The fore wing was effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative bacteria compared to Gram-positive samples. Electron microscopy revealed that the wings were studded with an array of rough, sharp, and pointed pillars that were distributed on both the dorsal and ventral sides, which enhanced anti-biofouling and antimicrobial effects. Our findings demonstrate the potential benefits of incorporating honeybee wings nanopatterns into the design of antibacterial nanomaterials which can be translated into countless applications in healthcare and industry.

Abstract Background Vector control tools are urgently needed to control malaria transmission in Africa. A native strain of Chromobacterium sp. from Burkina Faso was recently isolated and preliminarily named Chromobacterium anophelis sp. nov. IRSSSOUMB001. In bioassays, this bacterium showed a promising virulence against adult mosquitoes and reduces their blood feeding propensity and fecundity. The current study assessed the entomopathogenic effects of C. anophelis IRSSSOUMB001 on larval stages of mosquitoes, as well as its impacts on infected mosquitoes reproductive capacity and trans-generational effects. Methods Virulence on larvae and interference with insemination were assayed by co-incubation with C. anophelis IRSSSOUMB001 at a range of 104 to 108 cfu/ml. Trans-generational effects were determined by measuring body size differences of progeny from infected vs. uninfected parent mosquitoes using wing size as a proxy. Results Chromobacterium anophelis IRSSSOUMB001 killed larvae of the pyrethroid-resistant Anopheles coluzzii with LT80 of ~ 1.75 ± 0.14 days at 108 cfu/ml in larval breeding trays. Reproductive success was reduced as a measure of insemination rate from 95 ± 1.99% to 21 ± 3.76% for the infected females. There was a difference in wing sizes between control and infected mosquito offsprings from 2.55 ± 0.17 mm to 2.1 ± 0.21 mm in infected females, and from 2.43 ± 0.13 mm to 1.99 ± 0.15 mm in infected males. Conclusions This study showed that C. anophelis IRSSSOUMB001 was highly virulent against larvae of insecticide-resistant Anopheles coluzzii, and reduced both mosquito reproduction capacity and offspring fitness. Additional laboratory, field, safety and social acceptance studies are needed to draw firm conclusions about the practical utility of this bacterial strain for malaria vector control.

Simple Summary: Insects possess a very strong and flexible protein in their appendages and wing joints called resilin. In flying insects, resilin provides wing flexibility that improves flight and movement dynamics. In our study, we investigated how resilin changes with age in honey bees. We discovered that resilin genes are expressed at high levels in worker honey bee pupae, but then levels decline significantly with age. We also determined that the resilin protein is found at higher levels in some joints in the newly emerged honey bees compared to older age classes, further confirming the age-dependent nature of resilin presence in honey bee wings. Specifically, resilin is highly expressed in pupae, deposited at high amounts in some joints in newly emerged honey bees, and then expression and deposition both decline rapidly with age. Resilin must be kept hydrated to stay functional, so these results suggest that although resilin genes may not be expressed significantly after emerging, the resilin protein is likely maintained through fluid support to allow for strong flight dynamics throughout life. Resilin expression and maintenance should be explored for their potential to be used as an indicator of wing development and overall wing health in aging honey bees in the future. The presence of resilin, an elastomeric protein, in insect vein joints provides the flexible, passive deformations that are crucial to flapping flight. This study investigated the resilin gene expression and autofluorescence dynamics among Apis mellifera (honey bee) worker age classes and drone honey bees. Resilin gene expression was determined via ddPCR on whole honey bees and resilin autofluorescence was measured in the 1m-cu, 2m-cu, Cu-V, and Cu2-V joints on the forewing and the Cu-V joint of the hindwing. Resilin gene expression varied significantly with age, with resilin activity being highest in the pupae. Autofluorescence of the 1m-cu and the Cu-V joints on the ventral forewing and the Cu-V joint on the ventral hindwing varied significantly between age classes on the left and right sides of the wing, with the newly emerged honey bees having the highest level of resilin autofluorescence compared to all other groups. This study offers an integrated evaluation methodology for construction project delay causes viewed as a multicriteria sorting (MCS) problem. Time, cost, and quality were the three project management factors considered as criteria to evaluate 38 identified delay causes. The priority weights were extracted using the integration of Weighted Influence Non-linear Gauge Systems (WINGS) and Level-Based Weight Assessment (LBWA) to capture the inherent interdependencies of the criteria. The sorting of 38 delay causes was performed using FlowSort. To handle the uncertainty and vagueness of the judgments of the decision makers in the evaluation process, q-rung fuzzy orthopair fuzzy sets (q-ROFS) were integrated within the proposed computational framework. The proposed novel q-ROF–WINGS–LBWA–FlowSort method was applied in an actual case study in residential construction projects. The delay causes were categorized under three categories of construction firm vulnerability into four levels of impact. In highly vulnerable construction firms, thirty-five delay causes have a high impact, two have a moderate impact, and one has the least impact. In moderately vulnerable and least-vulnerable construction firms, 32 and 28 delay causes have a medium impact, respectively. The results may provide insights for decision makers in highly vulnerable construction firms, i.e., small companies with limited resources and networks. The early Gravettian site of Maisières‐Canal (Belgium) was discovered in 1966, during the widening of the Canal du Centre. Emergency excavation allowed the discovery of an open‐air human occupation which yielded abundant archaeological material. A re‐examination of the well‐preserved faunal collections has expanded the bird assemblage from the 29 bones initially recognized to 78, which have been studied from an archaeozoological point of view. Six taxa were identified, including species regularly encountered in Upper Paleolithic sites, such as the snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus), the northern raven (Corvus corax), and the willow or rock ptarmigan (Lagopus sp.). Ducks (Anatinae) are by far the best represented taxa. Surprisingly, only radius fragments were recovered for ducks, most bearing breaks and tool marks. We paid special attention to this peculiar set of duck radiuses. We performed experiments on fresh duck wings to evaluate the impact of different actions on the radius. Based on our experiments, two main hypotheses emerged. This accumulation of duck radiuses may represent (1) the waste from the production of dry wings and/or (2) a supply of raw material for craft activities. However, neither of these two hypotheses can be conclusively confirmed. As well as exhibiting some discrepancies, the bird bone assemblage from Maisières‐Canal shares several characteristics with early Gravettian sites from central Europe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a method for simultaneous optimization of the outer shape and internal topology of aircraft wings, with the objective of minimizing drag subject to lift and compliance constraints for multiple load cases. The physics are evaluated by the means of a source-doublet panel method for the aerodynamic response and linear elastic finite elements for the structural response, which are one-way coupled. At each design iteration, a mapping procedure is applied to map the current wing shape and corresponding pressure loads to the unfitted finite element mesh covering the design domain. Wings of small fixed-wing airplanes both with and without a stiffening strut are optimized. The resulting wings show internal topologies with struts and wall-truss combinations, depending on the design freedom of the shape optimization. The lift distributions of the optimized wings show patterns like the ones obtained when performing optimization of wing shapes with constraints on the bending moment at the root. Plant–animal interactions constitute some of the most important ecological processes for the maintenance of tropical forests. Bats are the only group of mammals capable of true flight and have been recognized as important dispersers of pioneer and secondary successional plant species. Although progress has been made in the study of Neotropical bats, morphological variation of the wing and its influence on niche separation between species is unknown. We evaluated relationships among habitat structures of selected Colombian tropical dry forest patches, the diet through interaction networks, and wing morphology of 11 species of bats in the Stenodermatinae subfamily (297 individuals) using geometric morphometry in a phylogenetic context. The results indicate that the phylogenetic signal for wing size is greater than for wing shape, thus providing some evidence for evolutionary convergence. Wing shape variation was associated primarily with the distal anatomical tip of the third finger and the joint between the humerus and the radius and ulna. Species with wide, short wings, as in the genus Artibeus had generalist diets and less nested positions within the interaction networks. In contrast, species with elongated and pointed wings, such as Sturnira and Platyrrhinus , had specialized diets and more nested positions within the interaction networks. Simple Summary: Wings play an important role in insect locomotion. It is the venation that provides reinforcement to the wings. An important question is whether the lines considered to be veins are visible in cross-section or are they just the folds of the wing's membrane. The cross-sections of the forewing of the scale insect Matsucoccus pini were cut and confirmed the presence of only one vein—radius. There were also campaniform sensilla described, for the first time, on both the dorsal and ventral sides of the wing base. Wings of Matsucoccus pini males were studied. Using light and scanning electron microscopes, both sides of the wing membrane, dorsal and ventral, were examined. The presence of only one vein in the common stem was confirmed by the cross-section, namely the radius. The elements regarded as subcostal and medial veins were not confirmed as veins. On the dorsal side of the wings, a cluster of campaniform sensilla is shown for the first time in the family Matsucoccidae, through SEM, and two additional sensilla were found on the ventral side. There was a lack of alar setae, microtrichia as well as pterostigma. This is the second cross-section of the wing among scale insects. We propose the following nomenclature for the wings in the family Matsucoccidae: subcostal thickening (sct), radius (R), median fold (med) and anal fold (af). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natural surfaces with remarkable properties and functionality have become the focus of intense research. Heretofore, the natural antimicrobial properties of insect wings have inspired research into their applications. The wings of cicadas, butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies have evolved phenomenal anti-biofouling and antimicrobial properties. These wings are covered by periodic topography ranging from highly ordered hexagonal arrays of nanopillars to intricate "Christmas-tree" like structures with the ability to kill microbes by physically rupturing the cell membrane. In contrast, the topography of honeybee wings has received less attention. The role topography plays in antibiofouling, and antimicrobial activity of honeybee wings has never been investigated. Here, through antimicrobial and electron microscopy studies, we showed that pristine honeybee wings displayed no microbes on the wing surface. Also, the wings displayed antimicrobial properties that disrupt microbial cells and inhibit their growth. The antimicrobial activities of the wings were extremely effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative bacterial cells when compared to Grampositive bacterial cells. The fore wing was effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram-negative bacteria compared to Gram-positive samples. Electron microscopy revealed that the wings were studded with an array of rough, sharp, and pointed pillars that were distributed on both the dorsal and ventral sides, which enhanced anti-biofouling and antimicrobial effects. Our findings demonstrate the potential benefits of incorporating honeybee wings nanopatterns into the design of antibacterial nanomaterials which can be translated into countless applications in healthcare and industry. The purpose of this article is to determine whether there is a link between the effort capacity and the generally recognized value at national level in the case of performance athletes specialized as wing in the Romanian National Men’s Handball League. The sample of participants consisted of 20 male players divided into two groups. The first group included 16 wings (n=16) who participate in the first handball league and the second group included four wing players (n=4), which play for Dinamo Bucharest Sports Club. In order to assess the effort capacity, we chose to use the Gacon test, which has a high degree of applicability at the level of performance handball, oriented towards the evaluation of the intermittent running skills of the athlete. Analyzing the performances obtained, we notice that at the level of the National League of Men’s Handball, the effort level presents us with an average of 18.68±3.66 with a variability coefficient of 19.61% located on the threshold of average homogeneity and the values obtained by the players specialized as wings that play for Dinamo Bucharest Sports Club, indicate an average of 14.75±2.21, inferior to the group to which they belong, but with the same degree of average homogeneity (15.03%). As a result of the tests carried out, a significant difference is observed between the two groups of subjects when it comes to the distance traveled, the average speed and the aerobic power, but not in terms of heart rate, which indicates that the individual value expressed on the court and generally recognized in the professional handball players specialized as wing is not directly related to their effort capacity.

Forest strip systems have a multifunctional effect on agricultural landscapes, stabilize the agroecological situation, and form new sustainable agroforestry systems. Goal. On the basis of a comparative analysis of the taxation and reclamation parameters of the protective forest strips (PLP) of various windage to assess their current state. The novelty of the research lies in the assessment of the state of various types of ZLN consisting of curtains, wings, modular and linear forest strips on complex chestnut soils. Methods. The methodology included a survey of protective forest stands, laying of permanent test areas, determination of morphometric parameters taking into account the assortment of tree species and their condition. The width of the crown space, openwork, crown closeness coefficient, optical density, etc. were determined by the method of photographic images. Results. Most of the plantings were planted in the period from 1988-92 of the last century. Forest strips whose age exceeds 34 years were created in an ordinary way. In addition to the main breed, shrubs were present in the composition of the bands. Many years of experience in creating forest strips in the dry steppe has revealed the dependence of plantings on the conditions of the soil cover on which they are grown. Moreover, the successful survival of PZLP on meadow-chestnut soils is linked to depressions. Edaphic conditions become an important criterion when growing LP. Conclusion. When the edaphic conditions are significantly complicated, due to the complexity of soils and the rigidity of the climate, it is either extremely difficult or impossible to grow durable, stable and aerodynamically efficient tree plantations from tree species. In such cases, non-linear curtain and backstage plantings may be more reliable and effective.

The innovation is mainly reflected in considering both the strength of the influencing factors themselves and the relationship of their mutual influence. To address the problems of ambiguity in assessing information and uncertainty in the judgment of expert group, this paper proposes fuzzy WINGS improved by D numbers (fuzzy D-WINGS). Combining D numbers with Triangular fuzzy numbers can overcome the limitation of mutually exclusive and collectively extensive set. The WINGS method is used to reveal the interdependent causal relationships by recognizing the orientation and strength of the factors. Utilizing the MICMAC method to draw matrix analysis diagrams can further reveal the relationship among them. Finally, a practical case study is conducted to prove the practicability of this fuzzy D-WINGS–MICMAC method.

The lift force of a rectangular semiwing in stationary ground effect was computed based on the spanwise circulation distribution inferred from wake crossflow measurement and was compared with the direct force balance data at Re =2.48 ×105. The lift calculated was found to be in good agreement with the force-balance measurement for ground distances h larger than 10% of the airfoil chord c. In close ground proximity (h/c = 10%), a large discrepancy however existed due to the appearance of a multiple vortex system consisting of a tip vortex, a corotating ground vortex, and a counter-rotating secondary vortex. The counter-rotating secondary vortex offset the vorticity of the tip vortex. By considering its contribution additive, the discrepancy observed between the lift forces computed and measured with the force balance in close ground proximity became marginal. Hybrid electric propulsion system-based aircraft designs are paving the path toward a future greener aviation sector and thus, have been the major focus of the aeronautical community. The fuel efficiency improvement associated to such propulsion system configurations are realized at the aircraft level. In order to assess such benefits, a radical shift in the subsystem modeling requirements and of a conceptual-level aircraft design environment are necessary. This work highlights performance model development work pertaining to different hybrid electric propulsion system components and the development of a design platform that facilitates tighter integration of different novel propulsion system disciplines at the aircraft level. Furthermore, a serial/parallel partially distributed hybrid electric propulsion system is chosen as the candidate configuration to assess the potential benefits and associated tradeoffs by conducting multidisciplinary design space exploration studies. It is established that the distributed hybrid electric configurations pose the potential for aircraft structural weight reduction benefits. The study further illustrates the impacts of onboard charging during the low thrust requirement segments, quantitatively. The provision of onboard charging lowers the potential for block fuel savings, and improvement in battery specific energy can make it more promising, which is also dependent on the hybridization power level. It is established that distributed propulsion system configurations particularly benefit from a high aspect ratio wing structure, which manifests in high hybridization power levels. In Western culture, for centuries the figure of the bat has been associated with the forces of evil, with demons living in the dark, in the most hidden recesses of human fears. Some characteristics of demons of the pagan world (dark color of the body, wings, etc.) pass into the Christian iconography of the devil. Baltrušaitis has shown several elements that place the origin of bat-winged devils in China. From that area they spread out to the West and soon became common images in Europe starting from the 13th century. In the Middle Ages travelling was frequent and even long-range, from Europe to Central Asia, through the Silk Road network and also attested by the diffusion of the Nestorian Church as far as China, beginning from the 7th century. Some of the artistic images of devils with bat wings are shown also in contrast to the wings of angels with feathered wings. The oldest depiction in Europe of a devil with bat wings is the mosaic representing the fall of Simon Magus in the Cappella Palatina (Palatine Chapel) in Palermo (1135-1143). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Some structural characters, such as wing venation, have been used in odonates differentiate taxa. In Cordulegaster boltonii, a species widely distributed throughout the western Palaearctic, the main characteristics of its wing venation have not been quantified until now. A six-variable analysis of wing venation (number of antenodal and postnodal cross-veins, number of cells in the anal triangle and in the anal loop) in specimens from several European countries was carried out. The results showed that: (a) females had a greater number of transversal veins and cells in the anal loop than males; (b) the values of these four variables were significantly lower in males from the Iberian Peninsula than in those from elsewhere; (c) within the Iberian Peninsula two groups of populations can be distinguished: one covers the north and the other the rest of the peninsula, the latter with two subgroups, one in the centre and one in the south and east. The Phasmida genus Candovia comprises nine traditionally recognized species, all endemic to Australia. In this study, Candovia diversity is explored through molecular species-delimitation analyses using the COI Fol gene fragment and phylogenetic inferences leveraging seven additional mitochondrial and nuclear loci. Molecular results were integrated with morphological observations, leading us to confirm the already described species and to the delineation of several new taxa and of the new genus Paracandovia. New Candovia species from various parts of Queensland and New South Wales are described and illustrated (C. alata sp. nov. , C. byfieldensis sp. nov. , C. dalgleishae sp. nov. , C. eungellensis sp. nov. , C. karasi sp. nov. , C. koensi sp. nov. and C. wollumbinensis sp. nov.). New combinations are proposed and species removed from synonymy with the erection of the new genus Paracandovia (P. cercata stat. rev. , comb. nov. , P. longipes stat. rev. , comb. nov. , P. pallida comb. nov. , P. peridromes comb. nov. , P. tenera stat. rev. comb. nov.). Phylogenetic analyses suggest that the egg capitulum may have independently evolved multiple times throughout the evolutionary history of these insects. Due to the global problem of electronic wastes (e-wastes), the concept of a circular economy is deemed a viable framework for achieving minimal resource extraction and waste generation. Despite the advances in the literature on managing the circularity of e-wastes, the consumption aspect needs much attention. Although some barriers to the consumption of recovered e-wastes, such as refurbished mobile phones, were already identified, an overarching evaluation of these barriers remains a gap. Thus, this work evaluates these relevant barriers by considering their internal strengths (or priorities) and the intertwined relationships between them under uncertainty. In achieving this agenda, three phases of the methodology were implemented: (1) performing a systematic literature review of the barriers, (2) finalizing the list of barriers following a focus group discussion, and (3) evaluating the barriers using a soft system model. The intricacies of the evaluation process prompt the development of a proposed integration of grey system theory and the weighted influence non-linear gauge systems (WINGS), coined grey WINGS. Findings from a case study in the Philippines reveal that negative perception, inferior quality, the misconception of the refurbishment concept, technological obsolescence, and lack of awareness are the critical barriers to the consumption of refurbished mobile phones. Discussions behind these barriers in view of consumer decisions were offered. Also, some policy insights were outlined to overcome these barriers. In effect, this work contributes twofold to the literature: (1) evaluating the barriers to the consumption of refurbished mobile phones to help design circularity initiatives, and (2) methodologically, integrating grey system theory within the framework of the WINGS method to address uncertainty in judgment elicitations.

Seven known species of the Triassic family Subioblattidae Schneider, 1983 reveal a cosmopolitan paleogeographic range (Argentina, South Africa, China, France, Kazahstan and Kyrgyzstan). A monospecific assemblage of Subioblatta madygenica Papier and Nel, 2001 from the Middle–Late Triassic Madygen locality in Kyrgyzstan is described here. All specimens exhibit characters typical for Subioblattidae such as an elongated costal field, ribbon-like subcostal field, Sc with pectinate branches inclined apically, sigmoidal R with undulating branches, variable M, sigmoidal CuA with branches subperpendicular to wing margin and a long anal field with a unique diagonal groove. Highly preserved coloration on wings of several specimens is comparable to that of S. madygenica. The described material enhances our knowledge of Triassic cockroaches and affirms Madygen as one of the most important Mesozoic insect lagerstätte. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study suggests a novel hybrid model for calculating the interrelationships between factors by integrating the Fuzzy set, Delphi, the Grey theory, and Weighted Influence Nonlinear Gauge System (WINGS) approaches in agricultural green supply chain management (AGSCM). Fuzzy Delphi helps to select 12 indicators from 19 factors by defuzzification for ambiguity associated with subjective judgment by 10 experts in data collection. Grey WINGS can illustrate the relationships, direction, and strength of factors simultaneously, which illustrates that environmental law, green consciousness, product quality, and price are the most significant factors of AGSCM. The results can help operators not only to analyze these key influencing factors, but also to understand the complex cause-and-effect relationships between these factors. The presence of resilin, an elastomeric protein, in insect vein joints provides the flexible, passive deformations that are crucial to flapping flight. This study investigated the resilin gene expression and autofluorescence dynamics among Apis mellifera (honey bee) worker age classes and drone honey bees. Resilin gene expression was determined via ddPCR on whole honey bees and resilin autofluorescence was measured in the 1m-cu, 2m-cu, Cu-V, and Cu2-V joints on the forewing and the Cu-V joint of the hindwing. Resilin gene expression varied significantly with age, with resilin activity being highest in the pupae. Autofluorescence of the 1m-cu and the Cu-V joints on the ventral forewing and the Cu-V joint on the ventral hindwing varied significantly between age classes on the left and right sides of the wing, with the newly emerged honey bees having the highest level of resilin autofluorescence compared to all other groups. The results of this study suggest that resilin gene expression and deposition on the wing is age-dependent and may inform us more about the physiology of aging in honey bees.

This study offers an integrated evaluation methodology for construction project delay causes viewed as a multicriteria sorting (MCS) problem. Time, cost, and quality were the three project management factors considered as criteria to evaluate 38 identified delay causes. The priority weights were extracted using the integration of Weighted Influence Non-linear Gauge Systems (WINGS) and Level-Based Weight Assessment (LBWA) to capture the inherent interdependencies of the criteria. The sorting of 38 delay causes was performed using FlowSort. To handle the uncertainty and vagueness of the judgments of the decision makers in the evaluation process, q-rung fuzzy orthopair fuzzy sets (q-ROFS) were integrated within the proposed computational framework. The proposed novel q-ROF–WINGS–LBWA–FlowSort method was applied in an actual case study in residential construction projects. The delay causes were categorized under three categories of construction firm vulnerability into four levels of impact. In highly vulnerable construction firms, thirty-five delay causes have a high impact, two have a moderate impact, and one has the least impact. In moderately vulnerable and least-vulnerable construction firms, 32 and 28 delay causes have a medium impact, respectively. The results may provide insights for decision makers in highly vulnerable construction firms, i.e., small companies with limited resources and networks. Layers of sensitivity and comparative analyses were put forward to test the robustness of the approach.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) is a highly polyphagous insect pest of worldwide occurrence, including India. In the present study, a detailed morphological assessment of H. armigera showed the following: typically dome-shaped egg with ribbed surface; larva having coriaceous skin, biordinal crochets and 11 primary setae on the prothoracic segment; pupa adecticous and obtect with prominent posterior tip cremaster; and adult forewings characterized by the presence of 7-8 black spots along the apical margin and a reniform shaped brown marking, more prominent on the underside. Adults exhibit sexual dimorphism in the colour of vestiture and forewings. The genitalic traits like the presence of usually 12 or less sets of cornuti in aedeagus, apically broadened harpe having length ranging between 4.5 to 4.9 mm and a single lobe at the base of everted vesica in males, and four distinct signa on bursa copulatrix in females, also distinguishes it from other congeneric species. This paper presents the closed-loop experimental framework and dynamic model validation for a 1/12-scale underwater kite design. The pool-based tow testing framework described herein, which involves a fully actuated, closed-loop controlled kite and flexible tether, significantly expands upon the capabilities of any previously developed open-source framework for experimental underwater kite characterization. Specifically, the framework has allowed for the validation of three closed-loop flight control strategies, along with a critical comparison between dynamic model predictions and experimental results. In this paper, we provide a detailed presentation of the experimental tow system and kite setup, describe the control algorithms implemented and tested, and quantify the level of agreement between our multi-degree-of-freedom kite dynamic model and experimental data. We also present a sensitivity analysis that helps to identify the most influential parameters to kite performance and further explain the remaining mismatches between the model and data. Thermophoresis represents one of the most common methods of directing micromachines. Enhancement of heat transfer rates are of economic interest for micromachine operation. This study aims to examine the heat transfer enhancement within the shell and tube latent heat thermal storage system (LHTSS) using PCMs (Phase Change Materials). The enthalpy–porosity approach is applied to formulate the melting situation and various shapes of inner heated fins are considered. The solution methodology is based on the Galerkin finite element analyses and wide ranges of the nanoparticle volume fraction are assumed, i.e., (0% ≤ φ ≤ 6%). The system entropy and the optimization of irreversibility are analyzed using the second law of the thermodynamics. The key outcomes revealed that the flow features, hexagonal entropy, and melting rate might be adjusted by varying the number of heated fins. Abstract Flutter is a self‐excited vibration under the interaction of the inertial force, aerodynamic force, and elastic force of the structure. After the flutter occurs, the aircraft structures will exhibit limit cycle oscillation, which will cause catastrophic accidents or fatigue damage to the structures. Therefore, it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the aeroelastic characteristics and flutter control for improving the aeroelastic stability of aircraft structures. This paper reviews the recent advances in aeroelastic analysis and flutter control of wings and panel structures. The mechanism of aeroelastic flutter of wings and panels is presented. The research methods of aeroelastic flutter for different structures developed in recent years are briefly summarized. Various control strategies including the linear and nonlinear control algorithms as well as the active flutter control results of wings and panels are presented. Finally, the paper ends with conclusions, which highlight challenges of the development in aeroelastic analysis and flutter control, and provide a brief outlook on the future investigations. This study aims to present a comprehensive understanding of aeroelastic analysis and flutter control. It can also provide guidance on the design of new wings and panel structures for improving their aeroelastic stability.

A new partially averaged Navier-Stokes (PANS) closure is derived based on the k-k--√L (KSKL) model. The aim of this new model is to incorporate the desirable features of the KSKL model, compared to the k-ω shear stress transport model, into the PANS framework. These features include reduced eddy-viscosity levels, a lower dependency on the cell height at the wall, well-defined boundary conditions, and improved iterative convergence. As well as the new model derivation, the paper demonstrates that these desirable features are indeed maintained, for a range of modeled-to-total turbulence kinetic energy ratios (fk), and even for multiphase flow. Pollution caused by polyethylene microplastics (MP) has been reported for aquatic environments worldwide. However, despite recurrent research for several aquatic organisms, the effects of MP on the emergence stage of freshwater insects from tropical environments are little known. This study is the first to assess the emergence of the Brazilian native species Chironomus sancticaroli Strixino & Strixino, 1981 when exposed to primary polyethylene microplastics (size 40–48 µm). We performed two exposure scenarios, with a substrate (standard assays) and without substrate (as a stressful experience), and recorded emergence responses. The MP did not affect the species' emergence rate, but these rates were statistically different for the standard and stressful exposure scenarios. In bioassays without substrate, the high concentrations of MP caused anticipation of the insect's emergence (5–6 days). On the other hand, female emergence time was longer than males in standard bioassays. The substrate absence caused a slight increase in the left female wing's length and the potential female fecundity. These findings suggest that the polyethylene microplastics and substrate availability can affect the emergence dynamics of the tropical insect C. sancticaroli. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By using the narrative methods, in more deeply, this research is intend to examine the basic motive why Ruth uses the word of wings in order to ask Boaz to spread his wings on Ruth. The perspective of the theory of narrative criticism used in this research is to look at the biblical narrative by referring to the analysis of the book of Ruth and its parts of the book as a complete literary work. The aim of this method is focusing on the storyteller or narrator, plot and scene, as well as repetition and keywords, characters, atmosphere, and point of view. The narrative analysis in the results of this paper not based on the author but merely on the text. So that readers can find out the values ​​and theological views conveyed through the text. The result of research on the meaning of wings in this text is Yahweh's own wing (2:12) as a place for Ruth to take refuge. In fact, Ruth was already under God's wing, because she had previously had a strong belief in becoming the covenant people of Yahweh. Sehingga pembaca dapat mengetahui nilai-nilai dan pandangan teologi yang disampaikan melalui teks yang diselidiki. Hasil penelitian tentang makna sayap dalam teks ini adalah sayap Yahweh sendiri (2:12) sebagai tempat bagi Rut untuk berlindung. Sejatinya, Rut sudah berada di bawah sayap Tuhan, karenya ia sebelumnya telah memiliki keyakinan kuat akan masuk menjadi umat perjanjian Yahweh. Diharapkan agar studi kepustakaan ini memberi sumbangsih teologis dalam mengkaji kedaulatan Allah bagi seluruh bangsa.
