Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of fluorinated synthetic chemicals that are highly recalcitrant, toxic, and bio-accumulative and have been detected in biosolids worldwide, posing potential risks to humans and the environment. Recent studies suggest that the organic C-F bond in PFAS can be destructed and potentially mineralised into inorganic fluorides during thermal treatment. This study focuses on thermodynamic equilibrium investigations and the fate of fluorine compounds post-PFAS destruction during biosolid thermal treatment. The results indicate that gas-phase fluorine compounds are mainly hydrogen fluoride (HF) and alkali fluorides, whereas solid-phase fluorine compounds include alkaline earth fluorides and their spinels. High moisture and oxygen content in the volatiles increased the concentration of HF in the gas phase. However, adding minerals reduced the emission of HF in the gas phase significantly and enhanced the capture of fluorine as CaF2 spinel in the solid phase. This study also investigates the effect of feedstock composition on the fate of fluorine. High ash content and low volatile matter in the feedstock reduced HF gas emissions and increased fluorine capture in the solid product. The findings of this work are useful in designing thermal systems with optimised operating conditions for minimising the release of fluorinated species during the thermal treatment of PFAS-containing biosolids. Heterostructures of two‐dimensional materials realise novel and enhanced physical phenomena, making them attractive research targets. Compared to inorganic materials, coordination nanosheets have virtually infinite combinations, leading to tunability of physical properties and are promising candidates for heterostructure fabrication. Although stacking of coordination materials into vertical heterostructures is widely reported, reports of lateral coordination material heterostructures are few. Here we show the successful fabrication of a seamless lateral heterojunction showing diode behaviour, by sequential and spatially limited immersion of a new metalladithiolene coordination nanosheet, Zn3BHT, into aqueous Cu(II) and Fe(II) solutions. Upon immersion, the Zn centres in insulating Zn3BHT are replaced by Cu or Fe ions, resulting in conductivity. The transmetallation is spatially confined, occurring only within the immersed area. We anticipate that our results will be a starting point towards exploring transmetallation of various two‐dimensional materials to produce lateral heterojunctions, by providing a new and facile synthetic route. The growth of the debt burden of the population of the regions of Russia due to the growth of unsecured consumer loans is contrary to plans to ensure economic development. It is necessary to eliminate the threat of excessive lending as a risk factor for the security of households and the economy as a whole. The purpose of the study is to analyze the state of lending and the level of creditworthiness of the population as a risk factor for the socio-economic security of the region and develop initiatives to reduce the negative impact of this factor on the economy of the region. The following research methods are used: bibliographic method, statistical and economic-mathematical research methods. During the study, the following results were achieved: a) an analysis of the volumes and risks of lending to individuals is presented; b) the analysis of the creditworthiness of the population in the regions is presented (on the example of the Volga Federal District); c) initiatives were proposed to reduce the impact of debt on the living standards of the population and the economy of the regions of the Volga Federal District.

The biosolids management is becoming an increased concern for the wastewater sector in recent times due to production of large volume of biosolids, their higher processing costs and the presence of emerging contaminants. The pyrolysis of biosolids is gaining significant interest in the industry sector as well as research community over the last decade due to its ability to reduce biosolids volume, produce high-value biochar product and minimise the risk associated with contaminants. This paper aims to critically review the literature on biosolids management techniques and their current challenges, biosolids characteristics and its suitability for pyrolysis, pyrolysis product characterisation from different reactor designs and biochar application as a soil amendment, adsorbent and catalyst. The efforts have also been made to critically summarise studies on the process modelling activities and techno-economic assessments including some key pilot-scale demonstrations of recent time. The review concludes that biosolids to biochar can be an effective alternative to biosolids management; however, its commercial viability is limited in the current scenario. Great progress in the development of new semiconducting polymers over the last two decades alongside improved understanding of electron transport mechanisms have resulted in a dramatic increase in the electron mobility of these materials making them promising candidates for electronic and thermoelectric applications. Heat transport phenomena, on the other hand—which govern thermal conductivity—have not received as much attention up to date. In spite of the simplicity of the principle behind the measurement of thermoelectric properties, the combined uncertainty in thermoelectric figure of merit zT could easily reach 50% with the largest uncertainty coming from thermal conductivity measurements. Such a high measurement uncertainty, often comparable to relative variations in zT encountered when optimizing within a given class of materials, prevents the study of structure-thermal property relationships. Here we present a protocol for the measurement of the thermal conductivity of thin films with reduced measurement uncertainty, which allowed us to investigate the effect of microstructural changes on the thermal conductivity of the conjugated polymer P(NDI2OD-T2). We show that the enhancement of the thermal conductivity upon annealing is much less pronounced than the corresponding increase in the electron mobility that has been reported under the same annealing conditions in the literature. This suggests that semicrystalline conjugated polymers in which thermal transport remains limited by the amorphous domain boundaries in between crystalline grains could be a suitable system for realizing the electron-crystal phonon glass concept and enable higher performance thermoelectric materials. Using electrical and thermal measurements, we present a method for characterising the anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) within nanoscale devices implementing perpendicular anisotropy materials. Perpendicularly magnetised CoFeB/Pt nanowires were fabricated in close proximity to Pt heater elements on an electrically insulating substrate. The voltages induced within the magnetic material as a result of the ANE were recorded for increasing heater powers, and for both out-of-plane saturated states of the device. Scanning thermal probe microscopy was used to map the temperature distribution within the region of the device at a range of heater powers. By analysing the results from each thermography measurement, it was possible to correlate the temperature gradient induced at the magnetic nanowire against the anomalous Nernst voltage measured within the device. For the particular material, geometry and substrate used, a Nernst coefficient value KN = 2.3 μV(K.T)-1 was calculated. This combination of measurements can provide a powerful tool to characterise the ANE within a number of nanoscale systems, a necessary task for the future implementation and optimisation of the effect within spin-caloritronic devices. We study gender pay inequality in ten Central and Eastern EU countries before (2007) and during the economic crisis (2009) using quantile regression methods. The analysis reveals remarkable cross-country diversity in levels and patterns of the gender gap along the earnings distribution; for the majority of the countries the crisis is associated with declining male/female disparities. We address the role played by labour market institutions in shaping the observed gender pay gap levels and patterns. Labour market deregulation increases gender inequality at the middle and at the top of the pay distribution, but reduces disparities at the bottom. Higher union density and wage coordination reduce the pay gap, with stronger equalizing effects on better-paid jobs.
