Packaging insulation materials with high thermal conductivity and excellent dielectric properties are favorable to meet the high demand and rapid development of third generation power semiconductors. In this study, we propose to improve the thermal conductivity of epoxy resin (EP) by incorporating a three-dimensional boron nitride thermally conductive network. Detailedly, polyurethane foam (PU) was used as a supporter, and boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) were loaded onto the PU supporter through chemical bonding (BNNS@PU). After immersing BNNS@PU into the EP resin, EP-based thermally conductive composites were prepared by vacuum-assisted impregnation. Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and scanning electron microscope were used to characterize the chemical bonding and morphological structure of BNNS@PU, respectively. The content of BNNS in BNNS@PU/EP composites was quantitatively analyzed by TGA. The results show that the thermal conductivity of the BNNS@PU/EP composites reaches 0.521 W/m K with an enhancement rate η of 30.89 at an ultra-low BNNS filler content (5.93 wt. %). Additionally, the BNNS@PU/EP composites have excellent dielectric properties with the frequency range from 101 to 106 Hz. Over the last two decades, Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) imaging with a scanning transmission electron microscope has emerged as a technique of choice for visualizing complex chemical, electronic, plasmonic, and phononic phenomena in complex materials and structures. The availability of the EELS data necessitates the development of methods to analyze multidimensional data sets with complex spatial and energy structures. Traditionally, the analysis of these data sets has been based on analysis of individual spectra, one at a time, whereas the spatial structure and correlations between individual spatial pixels containing the relevant information of the physics of underpinning processes have generally been ignored and analyzed only via the visualization as 2D maps. Here, we develop a machine learning-based approach and workflows for the analysis of spatial structures in 3D EELS data sets using a combination of dimensionality reduction and multichannel rotationally invariant variational autoencoders. This approach is illustrated for the analysis of both the plasmonic phenomena in a system of nanowires and in the core excitations in functional oxides using low loss and core-loss EELS, respectively. Low-energy ion beam irradiation, combined with the introduction of impurities, presents a promising approach for nanopatterning silicon (Si) surfaces. In this research, we investigate the surface evolution of Si (100) surfaces irradiated by 75 eV helium (He) plasma, in the presence of tantalum (Ta), traditionally regarded as an impurity incapable of initiating pattern formation, as evidenced in prior studies. The Ta impurities are pre-deposited onto the Si surfaces using the magnetron sputtering method, which offers a more controlled and quantifiable approach compared with the conventional co-deposition route. After irradiation at 800 K, dense cone arrays are produced on the Si surface. The growth of the cones is explored for fluence spanning (1–10) × 1025 m−2. The cross-sectional scanning electron microscope images indicate that the cone lengths and base width are well characterized by t1/2 dependence. The kinetics of the cone growth follow Fick's law, characterized by an effective diffusive mechanism with the coefficients of diffusion: D = 6.49 ± 0.83 × 10−16 m−2 s−1. Transmission electron microscope observations reveal that the cone has distinct inner and outer parts with different microstructures and a clear interface. The growth mechanism of these cones is elucidated as a composite process involving preferential sputtering, the destabilizing influence of He bubbles, and the migration of adatoms. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) recordings of dynamic nano-electromechanical systems (NEMS) are difficult to analyze due to the noise caused by low frame rate, insufficient resolution, and blurriness induced by applied electric potentials. Here, we develop an image processing platform enhanced by the physics of the underlying system to track the motion of buckling NEMS structures in the presence of high noise levels. The algorithm is composed of an image filter, two data filters, and a nonlinear regression model, which utilizes the expected form of the physical solution. The method was applied to the recordings of a NEMS beam about 150 nm wide, undergoing intra- and inter-well post-buckling states with a transition rate of approximately 0.5 Hz. The algorithm can track the dynamical motion of the NEMS and capture the dependency of deflection amplitude on the compressive force on the beam. With the help of the proposed algorithm, the transition from inter-well to intra-well motion is clearly resolved for buckling NEMS imaged under SEM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A non-destructive method for detecting sub-micrometer-sized micropipes on an entire wafer surface is investigated. Since it is difficult to detect sub-micrometer-sized micropipes due to their small core size, a non-destructively and accurately detecting method is required. To solve the issue, we focus on a characteristic depression generated around micropipes, namely, line-shaped depressions. In this paper, the location of line-shaped depressions is identified by using optical inspection, and the line-shaped depressions are distinguished whether micropipes exhibit line-shaped depression or not by using mirror electron microscope observation as high-resolution inspection. The accuracy of the distinction results is confirmed by scanning electron microscope observation, and electrical characteristics of the P–N diode are fabricated using the inspected wafer. Furthermore, the sub-micrometer-sized micropipes are observed at the sites of leakage current identified by emission microscopy. Additionally, device simulation of the blocking-voltage characteristics of P–N diodes suggests that the increase in leakage current depends on the electric field at the sub-micrometer-sized micropipes, regardless of their core size. Gastropods forage with their radula, a thin chitinous membrane with embedded teeth, which scratch across the substrate to lose food particles. During this interaction, the risk of loosening particles is obvious without having a specialized mechanism holding them on the tooth surface. As mucus secretions are essential in molluscan life cycles and the locomotion and attachment gels are known to have an instant high adhesion, we have hypothesized that the saliva could support particle retention during feeding. As adhesion of snail saliva was not studied before, we present here an experimental setup to test its particle-binding capacity using a large land snail (Lissachatina fulica, Stylommatophora, Heterobranchia). This experiment was also applied to the gels produced by the snail foot for comparison and can be potentially applied to various fluids present at a small volume in the future. We found, that the saliva has high particle retention capacity that is comparable to the foot glue of the snail. To gain some insight into the properties of the saliva, we additionally studied it in the scanning electron microscope, estimated its viscosity in a de-wetting experiment, and investigated its elemental composition using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy reveling higher contents of Ca, Zn and other potential cross-linkers similar to those found in the glue. In recent years, precision and accuracy for a more precise critical dimension (CD) control have been required in CD measurement technology. CD distortion between the measurement by a critical dimension scanning electron microscope (CD-SEM) and a reference tool is the most important factor for a more accurate CD measurement. CD bias varies by a CD-SEM and a pattern condition. Therefore, it is urgently needed to identify, characterize, and quantify those parameters that may or may not affect the CD measurement by a CD-SEM. The sensitivity of the Monte Carlo simulated CD-SEM images with multiple physical modeling components has been studied previously. In this study, we demonstrate that the work function and elastic scattering potential models have a significant impact on secondary electron emission intensity, but their influence on the shape of the linescan profile is small, and other factors like the optical energy loss function and dielectric function models have even smaller effects. We have evaluated the uncertainty in the linescan profiles of Si line structures with different sidewall angles due to several different physical factors. It is found that when the CD is evaluated by a peak/valley method, the uncertainty of the CD is negligible. Therefore, it is concluded that the CD value and its related uncertainty are not critically related to the physical factors of the present Monte Carlo simulation model but rely dominantly on the line structure and electron beam parameters. We report on the metrological characterization of the emission from a germanium-vacancy center in diamond under a microfabricated solid immersion lens in a confocal laser-scanning microscope setup. Ge ions were implanted into a synthetic diamond at 3 MeV, and germanium-vacancy centers were then formed by subsequent annealing. Afterward, solid immersion lenses were fabricated in a focused ion beam scanning electron microscope. The photoluminescence was investigated at room temperature in terms of the spectral distribution, the excited state lifetime, the second-order correlation function, and the saturation behavior, proving simultaneous high single-photon purity and high brightness. Two methods were exploited to minimize the residual multi-photon probability: spectral filtering and temporal filtering. According to these results, we assume that Raman scattered photons and emission from neighboring color centers play an important role in the residual multi-photon emission probability. The system efficiency of the single-photon source was investigated and found to be in accordance with the value calculated from all sources of loss in the setup. The branching ratio of the germanium-vacancy center for the decay into the ground state and into metastable state was calculated. Because of their full compatibility with CMOS technology, HfO2-based ferroelectrics, and especially Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO), attract a lot of attention. However, the overwhelming majority of measurement techniques provides only information about the cumulative electrical response of many domains of HZO, i.e., at the macroscopic level. So far, only piezoresponse force microscopy technique was applied to visualize distinct ferroelectric domains in HZO and to analyze the local switching behavior in the microscopic level. This work introduces the possibility of using electron beam-induced current (EBIC) technique in the scanning electron microscope to visualize the gradual polarization reversal of HZO and to obtain the local polarization dynamics. We show that although the local EBIC signal is affected by surrounding domains, studying the variations in the ferroelectric response of individual domains as well as the spread of the local stiffness and local imprint is possible by this method. Besides, we show the connection between the EBIC current and an electric field across passive non-ferroelectric layers at interfaces between HZO and metal electrodes, which opens up additional opportunities to use the EBIC technique for investigations of interface-dependent properties of HZO ferroelectrics in the future. BACKGROUND: Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with piezoelectric properties, good biocompatibility and nontoxicity make it a suitable candidate for periosteal repair. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the cytotoxicity of PVDF bionic periosteum by electrospinning with zinc and magnesium ions in vitro. METHODS: Pure PVDF, zinc-doped PVDF, magnesium-doped PVDF and Zinc-magnesium ion PVDF piezoelectric bionic periosteum were prepared by electrospinning technology, respectively. They were named PVDF, PVDF-Zn, PVDF-Mg and PVDF-Zn-Mg, in which the mass fraction of zinc and magnesium ions were all 1%. Osteoblasts and vascular endothelial cells were co-cultured with four groups of bionic periosteum. Cell compatibility of bionic periosteum was determined by alkaline phosphatase staining, CD31 immunofluorescence staining, and scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Osteoblasts: Alkaline phosphatase staining after 7 days of culture showed that the PVDF-Zn group secreted more alkaline phosphatase than the other three groups. Under a scanning electron microscopy, after 1 day of culture, the cells had a certain spread on the surface of PVDF-Mg and PVDF-Zn-Mg bionic periosteum, and the pseudopod extended to all sides. On day 3, the cell edge of each group extended pseudopods to the material. By days 5 and 7, the cells were fully spread, well grown and firmly covered the surface of the fibers, and the cellular pseudopods extended around and into the interstitial space of the fibers. CCK-8 assay showed that the cell proliferation on the bionic periosteum of each group showed an increasing trend over time and the relative proliferation rate of cells at 1, 3, 5, and 7 days was ≥75%, and the cytotoxicity was ≤ grade 1. (2) Vascular endothelial cells: CD31 immunofluorescence staining for 3 days showed that the cells adhered and spread well on the bionic periosteum of each group and connected with each other, and the number of cells in the PVDF-Zn-Mg group was more than that in the other three groups. Under scanning electron microscope, the cells began to adhere to the surface of each group of fibers after 1 and 3 days of culture. On day 5, the cells were well spread on the surface of the fibers and extended obvious pseudopods. On day 7, the cells on the PVDF-Mg and PVDF-Zn-Mg bionic periosteum grew in multiple layers and extended the pseudopod into the fibrous void. CCK-8 assay showed that the cell proliferation on the bionic periosteum of each group showed a downward trend over time, and the relative proliferation rate of cells at 1, 3, 5 and 7 days was ≥125%, and the cytotoxicity was grade 0. A nanostructure of lithium-zinc copper ferrite (LiZnCu-Ferrite) prepared experimentally by the auto-combustion method depends on different parameters. The auto-combustion method operates at a temperature (160 °C) suitable for preparing the required nanostructure ferrite phase. The dependent composition was [Li 0.5-x Zn x Cu x Fe 2.5-x O 4 at (x = 0, 0.05, 0.15, 0.25, 0.35, and 0.45)]. A pre-firing at temperature (650 °C) was applied during the calcination process that was suitable to remove unwanted products. The sintering at temperature (800 °C) was suitable for a pelletized shape of ferrite samples. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed a spinel structure of ferrite phase produced for all samples under study with the lattice constant in the range (8.345–8.368 Å) as a function of (x). The crystallite size was in the range (18.41–30.27 nm) calculated by the Scherrer method. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) showed a production of nanorods in the size range (10–45 nm) and nanoparticles in the size range (10–40 nm). There was a coincidence between the results of the XRD and TEM analyses. On the other hand, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed the surface morphology and the nature of grain size, which was a sign of the presence of nanostructure; it agreed with the XRD analysis. FTIR spectra showed evidence that the system Li0.5-xZnxCuxFe2.5-xO4 had spinal ferrite nanoparticles successfully prepared by sol-gel auto-combustion. A vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) showed a change in magnetic parameters as compensation factor (x) increased for all composites of LiZnCu-ferrite such as saturation magnetization (Ms), initial magnetic permeability (μi), remanence (Mr), and coercive force (Hc) that measured from M − H loops. A saturation magnetization increased as a function of (x) and recorded a maximum value at (x = 0.15). The main objective of this study is to fabricate composite materials having excellent thermal, mechanical and electrical properties for thermal and electronic applications. In this work, strontium feldspar-containing composites (Sr-feldspar/cordierite and Sr-feldspar/Sr-osumilite) were prepared by solid-state sintering of SrO-containing cordierite (MgSrAl 4 Si 5 O 18)/borosilicate glass powder mixtures. The phase composition, physical properties and microstructure of sintered composites were investigated by X-ray diffraction technique, water displacement method and scanning electron microscope, respectively. Moreover, the thermal expansion coefficient, hardness, and electrical properties were also measured. The results of X-ray patterns revealed the crystallization of Sr-feldspar and cordierite in the composites that contain up to 20% borosilicate glass. On the other hand, the composites that include more than 20% glass, displayed the crystallization of Sr-feldspar and Sr-osumilite with little amount of cristobalite. The bulk density values of sintered composites were decreased from 2.41 to 1.84 g/cm3 with increasing the amount of added glass. The microhardness values were increased from 519 to 710 kg/mm2 with increasing the glass content. Low thermal expansion coefficient (2.65 × 10−6, 2.22 × 10−6, 3.45 × 10−6 and 4.26 × 10−6 K-1 for C0, CG91, CG73, CG55, respectively) and low dialectic constant (7–8.5) were obtained for the prepared composites. This research paper focuses on the use of solid biomass waste, specifically a combination of Polyalthia longifolia seed (PLSF) and graphite (GH) powder, as reinforcements in vinyl ester (VE) composites. The composites were produced via the hand layup method, with the filler concentration varying from 0 to 15 wt% of PLSF and 0–9 wt% of graphite. The objective was to examine the influence of the hybrid filler on the mechanical characteristics of the composites. The mechanical properties of composites prepared from P. longifolia seeds and graphite powder were experimentally characterized. These properties included tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance, and hardness. The hybrid composite had a maximum tensile strength of 48.4 MPa, and its tensile modulus was 1.66 GPa. The hybrid filler at 15% wt% of PLSF and 6% of graphite has the highest flexural strength, which is around 148 MPa. The ultimate impact strength and hardness were measured to be 41.3 kJ/m2 and 44.5, respectively, after the addition of 15 and 6 wt% of hybrid filler. In comparison to neat vinyl ester resin, the PLSF/GH‐VE composites exhibited an increase in tensile, flexural, impact, and hardness of 2.69, 1.82, 3.03, and 1.59 times, respectively. Hybrid composite surfaces were analyzed using scanning electron microscopes to determine surface characteristics and fractured surfaces. In addition, the PLSF/GH‐VE composites have been utilized in the production of components for four‐wheelers. This research delved into the structural, morphological, and magnetic characteristics of rare earth doped strontium ferrites (SrRE x Fe 12-x O 19 (x = 0.05–0.2, RE = La, Sm, Eu, Dy, Er, Lu)) synthesized via the sol-gel method. The dopant ion radius is correlated with the performance of the material to a certain extent. Barium and calcium doping and related iron deficiency state experiments were designed to substantiate the reciprocal dependence between ion radius and coercivity. X-ray diffraction results revealed that doping ions had the capacity to modify lattice dimensions. The lattice size does not exhibit a clear linear relationship with the radius of the doping ion, nor does it inherently correlate with the grain size. The scanning electron microscope demonstrated that ion doping had the capacity to influence the size of grains. A general consequence of rare earth doping is the reduction in the saturation magnetization of strontium ferrites. The lanthanide contraction effect significantly influences the changes in coercivity. It is noteworthy that the variations in lattice internal space induced by doping constitute a primary driving factor for the observed coercivity dependence on the radius of the doping ion. Osteogenic differentiation and bone regeneration can be effectively aided by porous scaffolds with multiscale cellular structures, making it easier to repair defects in bone tissue. Due to the scarcity of pore-forming agents, it is extremely challenging to fabricate interconnected hierarchically porous zirconia at multi-scale. This work described a novel and straightforward method for directly imprinting a slurry containing two pore-forming agents (microspherical and filamentary) to produce strong and highly porous zirconia (ZrO 2) ceramics with four levels of porosity ranging from nanometers to millimeters. The concentration of hemp fibers significantly affected printability when the rheological behavior of a zirconia slurry was examined. Utilizing a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to monitor the development of powder interstices under various sintering techniques. The permeability performance was assessed when simulated plasma had fully filled the scaffolds. The structure had a high compressive strength of 24.18 MPa, a porosity of 80.9 %, an apparent porosity of 55.7 %, and took just 1.11 s to fill a scaffold that was 15 mm high. Daqiuni clay is an aluminosilicate clay with unique properties that make it a promising ceramic precursor. Understanding its sintering behavior is crucial for quality control in manufacturing. This study aimed to investigate the phase evolution, densification process, and reaction kinetics during sintering of Daqiuni clay. A combination of X-ray diffraction (XRD), simultaneous thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques were employed to comprehensively analyse the phase transformations. The densification behavior, apparent activation energies, and reaction mechanisms were elucidated through thermodilatometric analysis conducted at varying heating rates. Four stages were identified during sintering including dehydration, dehydroxylation, mullite formation, and partial melting. The maximum shrinkages at each stage were measured. Kissinger analysis yielded apparent activation energies of 122.90, 258.40, 361.98 and 348.69 kJ/mol for the dehydroxylation, mullite nucleation, mullite growth, and partial melting stages, respectively. The dehydroxylation and partial melting processes followed the mechanisms of 3rd order reaction and 3D diffusion. Mullite formation was a two-step nucleation and growth process following the JMA model. This study clarified the phase evolution of Daqiuni clay during sintering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The liquid-phase epitaxial growth (LPE) of GaN crystals on the MOCVD-GaN substrate using the Na-flux method was investigated under various growth times, 30, 60, 100, and 150 h. The morphology properties of as-grown GaN crystals were characterized by the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The variation of nitrogen concentration and supersaturation of GaN in the Ga-Na melt as a function of time is given computationally during the growth time of 150 h, as well as the distribution of nitrogen concentration for 30, 60, 100, and 150 h. In the early term of LPE growth (Stage I), the growth proceeds in a near-equilibrium laminar pattern at lower growth driving forces, corresponding to a screw dislocation growth mechanism. As the growth time extends, the GaN supersaturation in the Ga-Na melt increases with mass transfer continuing, leading to the mechanism of LPE growth changing from screw dislocation growth to continuous hexagonal pyramidal growth with deeper and deeper pit depths, and also thereby leading to the emergence of Stage II. A high level of GaN supersaturation in the solution could promote the growth along the vertical direction of Stage II but is detrimental to the layer growth of Stage I. Broadening the growth of Stage I could realize near-equilibrium growth of GaN crystals and improve the crystalline quality of epitaxial GaN crystals. The specific mechanisms of the different stages of GaN crystal growth were not clarified in the previous work. Through a combination of experimental and simulation calculations, the GaN crystal growth mechanism was discussed. Gelatin is a collagen-derived biopolymer with high biocompatibility, commonly used in the production of wound dressing materials. Gelatin-based wound dressings, obtained through different processing methods, come with their own advantages and disadvantages depending on their physical structure. In this study, the effects of gelatin wound dressing materials with two different morphologies on wound healing are investigated in detail. The study investigated that the preparation of gelatin-based wound dressing materials using two different methods, followed by their chemical characterization and examination of their effects on biocompatibility and wound healing. To comprehend the impact of nanofiber structure and porous sponge structure on the wound healing process, the chemical structure of the prepared wound dressings was analyzed using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR). The morphological structure was visualized through Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), the thermal properties were determined using Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC). Additionally, the in vivo wound healing effects of gelatin-based wound dressings with different structures were evaluated through macroscopic observation and histological analysis in a dorsal region wound-healing rat model, monitored for 21 days. It was observed that wound healing materials with desired nanofiber and porous sponge structures were successfully obtained based on the SEM analysis. The gelatin nanofiber dressing showed a randomly oriented, bead-free, and smooth morphology with an average fiber diameter of approximately 1250 ± 0.35 nm, while the crosslinked gelatin sponge dressing had pore sizes ranging from 20 to 160 μm, and interconnected pore structures. The chemical structure remained unaltered according to FTIR graphs and these results were further supported by DSC and TGA graphs. Results from in vitro biocompatibility studies indicated that the wound dressing materials were biologically compatible, non-toxic, and did not cause irritation or sensitivity to the skin. The integration of reformers into high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane (HT-PEM) fuel cells presents a significant opportunity to improve fuel flexibility and cost-effectiveness. To understand their degradation, we applied two start–stop cycling procedures: one with pure H 2 and another with an 80 vol % H 2 and 20 vol % N 2 mix to simulate reformate gas. We also performed a load cycling test with H 2 as anode gas. The results indicated that degradation rate of pure H 2 start–stop cycling showed 306 μ V h−1, while load cycling demonstrated a degradation rate of 19.7 μ V h−1 for the current density of 0.2 A cm−2, and 88.2 μ V h−1 for the current density of 0.4 A cm−2. Start–stop cycling with diluted gas resulted in a constant voltage drop with a degradation rate of 3.129 mV h−1. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) indicated an increased ohmic resistance during start–stop cycling and higher charge transfer (high-frequency) and mass transport (low-frequency) resistance with nitrogen introduction. Scanning electron microscope results confirmed MEA degradation. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study the high temperature oxidation behavior of Ti and C-added FeCoCrNiMn high entropy alloys (HEAs). Design/methodology/approach: Cyclic oxidation method was used to obtain the oxidation kinetic profile and oxidation rate. The microstructures of the surface and cross section of the samples after oxidation were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Findings: The results show that the microstructure of the alloy mainly consisted of FCC (Face-centered Cubic Structure) main phase and carbides (M7C3, M23C6 and TiC). With the increase of Ti and C content, the microhardness, strength and oxidation resistance of the alloy were effectively improved. After oxidation at a constant temperature of 800 °C for 100 h, the preferential oxidation of chromium in the chromium carbide determined the early formation of dense chromium oxide layers compared to the HEAs substrate, resulting in the optimal oxidation resistance of the TC30 alloy. Purpose: In this paper, the authors aim to study the effect of hydrogen on the pitting corrosion behavior of Incoloy 825, a commonly used material for heat exchanger tubes in hydrogenated heat exchangers. Design/methodology/approach: The pitting initiation and propagation behaviors were investigated by electrochemical and chemical immersion experiments and observed and analyzed by scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometer methods. Findings: The results show that hydrogen significantly affects the electrochemical behavior of Incoloy 825; the self-corrosion potential decreased from −197 mV before hydrogen charging to −263 mV, −270 mV and −657 mV after hydrogen charging, and the corrosion current density increased from 0.049 µA/cm2 before hydrogen charging to 2.490 µA/cm2, 2.560 µA/cm2 and 2.780 µA/cm2 after hydrogen charging. The pitting susceptibility of the material increases. Originality/value: Hydrogen is enriched on the precipitate, and the pitting corrosion also initiates at that location. Purpose: This paper aims to study the influence of microparticles on the surface cavitation behavior of 2Cr3WMoV steel; microparticle suspensions of different concentration, particle size, material and shape were prepared based on ultrasonic vibration cavitation experimental device. Design/methodology/approach: 2Cr3WMoV steel was taken as the research object for ultrasonic cavitation experiment. The morphology, quantity and distribution of cavitation pits were observed and analyzed by metallographic microscope and scanning electron microscope. Findings: The study findings showed that the surface cavitation process produced pinhole cavitation pits on the surface of 2Cr3WMoV steel. High temperature in the process led to oxidation and carbon precipitation on the material surface, resulting in the "rainbow ring" cavitation morphology. Both the concentration and size of microparticles affected the number of pits on the material surface. When the concentration of microparticles was 1 g/L, the number of pits reached the maximum, and when the size of microparticles was 20 µm, the number of pits reached the minimum. The microparticles of Fe3O4, Al2O3, SiC and SiO2 all increased the number of pits on the surface of 2Cr3WMoV steel. In addition, the distribution of pits of spherical microparticles was more concentrated than that of irregularly shaped microparticles in turbidity. Originality/value: Most of the current studies have not systematically focused on the effect of each factor of microparticles on the cavitation behavior when they act separately, and the results of the studies are more scattered and varied. At the same time, it has not been found to carry out the study of microparticle cavitation with 2Cr3WMoV steel as the research material, and there is a lack of relevant cavitation morphology and experimental data. Background: Collagen, a critical structural protein found abundantly in animal skin and bones, has become increasingly recognized for its potential therapeutic role in skincare. Despite growing interest, the scientific evidence for the efficacy of collagen sheet masks remains limited. The principal objective of our study was to provide insights into the multifaceted role of collagen in skin health, with a specific focus on its application in collagen sheet masks. Methods: The effects of a collagen sheet mask consisting of >92% native bovine collagen were investigated. The soluble protein components of the collagen matrix were analyzed and the influence of soluble collagen components on fibroblast regulation was examined. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis was performed for structural analysis and effect on irritated skin. Five different clinical studies were conducted, including a comparison of the diversity of the skin microbiome, the tolerance and local irritating reactions in atopic dermatitis, an evaluation of skin redness after UV radiation, wrinkle reduction, and hydration and skin roughness of the collagen mask in comparison to a pre‐soaked cellulose sheet mask. Results: The collagen mask contains soluble protein components, including small collagen peptides. The mask showed potential for promoting fibroblast activity. SEM analysis showed a native collagen structure similar to human dermis. The mask maintained the skin microbiome diversity and decreased skin pH levels. It demonstrated good tolerability on both intact and lesional skin and had a significant effect in reducing erythema caused by UV radiation compared to other skincare products. It showed significant improvements in skin hydration and the volume of eye wrinkles and was more effective than pre‐soaked cellulose sheet masks. Conclusion: Collagen sheet masks have the potential to positively impact skin health and appearance by increasing hydration, reducing erythema, minimizing wrinkles, and maintaining a healthy skin microbiome and skin barrier. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have significant environmental concerns for soil, water and ecosystems. Since their harmful effects on human health, including respiratory disease, they are considered dangerous substances. Thus, it is required to discover a constructive solution to decrease of MWCNT toxicity. Due to their high degradability, white rot and soft rot fungi have been used in the biodegradation of various pollutants. In this study, we evaluated the ability of native Iranian white and soft rot fungi to degrade MWCNTs mainly by means of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and surface charge measurement. In this regard, growth kinetics, CO2 and protein production, size, surface charge and pH change were measured. Continuous Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) imaging were carried out to detect the process of degradation. The results showed that the morphology, arrangement, size and diameter of MWCNTs were modified due to fungal degradation. The cytotoxicity of treated MWCNTs was determined by the MTT test. The results indicated that native Iranian white and soft rot fungi have a significant ability for degradation of MWCNTs. Furthermore, it could be concluded that fungal treatment could reduce the toxicity of MWCNTs and the best result was achieved in 500 ppm MWCNTs for Trichoderma sp. The activities of oxidative enzymes such as laccase, manganese peroxidase (MnP) and lignin peroxidase (LiP) were measured to determine the mechanism of degradation. Enzyme assays have suggested that these oxidising enzymes especially laccase might play a key role in the degradation of MWCNTs in white rot and soft rot fungi. The overall results confirmed the reproductive ability of Trichoderma sp. WF29 as a soft rot and two white rot fungi Irpex lacteus WF36 and Trametes versicolor to degrade MWCNT. This research focuses on synthesizing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanocomposite film adopted with 3–9 wt% of nano-sized (50 nm) titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles through a sol–gel (spin coating) route. Feature of TiO2 nanoparticles on microstructural behaviour is evaluated via scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction, and its optical properties like absorption & transmittance, optical band gap, and optical conductivity are studied. Including 9 wt% TiO2 in PVA film shows increased absorption peaks of 220–440 nm, and the transmittance range decreased by 16% compared to pure PVA. The performance of cementitious composites reinforced with fibres or/and bars depends on the bond strength between inclusion and cementitious matrix. The nature of formation of fibre‐matrix bond is crucial for enhancing the reliability and utilisation of reinforced composites. The research provides a review on the recently published result about the changes in the microstructure of cement matrix surrounding steel fibres with different surface roughness, using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with k‐means clustering algorithm for image segmentation. The debonding pattern of the fibre‐matrix bond after the tensile loading cycles was discussed by observing the amount of adhered cement paste to the pulled out fibre surface with SEM. Unburned carbon from fly ash and its graphitization products (at temperatures of 2400 and 3000°C) were tested using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (×RD) and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The same tests were also carried out for synthetic and natural graphite. Various morphological forms of products with a high degree of graphitization, such as spheroidal graphite, hexagonal plates, column plates, and jagged-edge films were identified in the sample of unburned carbon annealed at 3000°C. The product of thermal treatment at the temperature of 3000°C has the interlayer spacing d002 value characteristic for semigraphite. With increasing temperature the number of crystallites in stack N, their height Lc002 and aromaticity fa increases. The degree of G graphitization of annealed samples increases more than twice with increasing temperature. With the increase of the temperature the aliphatic chains are decomposed and the aromatic systems are reconstructed, so the degree of internal structure order increases. The Raman examinations showed that the structural parameters determined for the graphite and carbonizate samples after thermal treatment at the temperature of 3000°C are equal in the standard deviation range. To develop microwave‐absorbing properties of dielectric ceramics, B4C/C composite powders were prepared by combustion synthesis with B2O3, polyvinyl alcohol, and Mg as the raw materials in this work. The XRD, Raman, scanning electron microscope with energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, and VNA network analysis carried out the effects of the addition of azodicarbonamide (AC) foaming agent on the phase compositions, microstructure, and dielectric and microwave‐absorbing properties of the products. The results indicated that the addition of an AC foaming agent contributed to the formation of distinct morphologies with a larger specific surface area and uniform distribution of the free carbon in the B4C/C composite powders and improved its graphitization degree, which resulted in the formation of equivalent microcapacitors, enhanced interfacial polarization, improved conductive network, and leading to a low reflection loss (RL) and a broadened effective absorb bandwidth (EAB). Due to the dielectric loss as the dominant loss mechanism, C‐1.5 (1.5 wt.% AC foaming agent addition) exhibits the EAB of 3.02 GHz and the minimum RL (RLmin) of −22.90 dB at the thickness of 2.20 mm. Using Camellia oleifera shell as raw materials to preparative SiC ceramics by warm‐press forming and sintering is proposed in this paper. Warm‐press forming before preparing for the C. oleifera shell‐based SiC ceramics is beneficial to obtain the internal uniform and suitable pore structure of the cylindrical sample. Thermogravimetric analysis with differential scanning calorimetry was applied to analyze the pyrolysis behavior of C. oleiefra shell and phenolic resin. The scanning electron microscope and X‐ray diffraction were used to investigate the properties of C. oleifera shell‐based SiC ceramics. Then, the response surface method was applied to establish a multivariate prediction model based on the process parameters of warm‐press forming. And the regression equations of porosity and bending strength of COS‐SiC are obtained. The result demonstrated that the predicted and experimental values can be in good agreement for the model. By comparing the F‐value, it is found that the forming temperature and pressure during the process of warm‐press forming have a more significant influence on the porosity and bending strength of SiC ceramics. PyC/BN multiphase interfacial phases were prepared on the surface of SiC fiber preform, then the near stoichiometric ratio SiC fiber reinforced SiC ceramic matrix composites were obtained by polymer impregnation and pyrolysis (PIP) process. The mechanical behavior of SiC/SiC composites was characterized by three‐point bending tests and fracture toughness tests. The stress release and load transfer effects of the interfaces under external loads were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results showed that with the increasing of PyC component thickness from.10 to.30 µm in the PyC/BN multiphase interfacial phases, the bending strength and fracture toughness both increased first and then decreased. The results occurred due to the competition between load transfer and stress release of the interfaces. The relatively optimized interfacial phase structure was that the thickness of the PyC interfacial phase and BN interfacial phase were.20 and.30 µm. The bending strength and fracture toughness of the optimized SiC/SiC composites reached 660.65 MPa and 29.01 MPa•m1/2. Respectively, many matrix cracks appeared in the horizontal and vertical directions, occupying almost the entire fracture section. The growth path of the matrix crack was significantly increased with many long fibers pulled out and broken, which was conducive to the strengthening and toughening of SiC/SiC composites. In this work, microporous MgO–Al2O3 refractory aggregates were prepared with Mg(OH)2 and Al(OH)3 via the in situ decomposition synthesis method. The effect of Al(OH)3 addition on the microstructure and properties of microporous MgO–Al2O3 refractory aggregates was investigated with scanning electron microscope and mercury intrusion porosimetry. The results indicated that the improved green density of the samples and the reaction sintering accelerated the mass transport rate with adding Al(OH)3 from 0 to 4.0 wt%. Besides, a small amount of Al3+ diffused into porous MgO particles, accelerating the merging and growth of nanopores in the porous MgO particles. The intra‐particle pore size and the densification degree of microparticles were increased, and thus the strength of the samples was improved. Due to the formation of Kirkendall voids by interdiffusion of Mg2+ and Al3+, the inter‐particle pore size increased. Adding Al(OH)3 from 4.0 to 17.6 wt%, the Kirkendall voids weakened the mass transport rate and improved the inter‐particle pore size. The merging and growth of nanopores in the MgO particles were limited, resulting in the reduced intra‐particle pore size and increased intra‐particle pore number. The densification degree of microparticles was reduced, and thus the strength of the samples decreased. At the Al(OH)3 addition of 4.0 wt%, microporous MgO–Al2O3 refractory aggregates had the best comprehensive properties, a bulk density of 2.48 g/cm3, an apparent porosity of 29.4%, a median pore size of 1.6 μm with 42.2 vol% nanopores and the thermal conductivity of 4.0 W/(m K). The wrought nickel–chromium–cobalt Nimonic 90 alloy is widely used in turbine blades, piston rings and forged tools due to their high stress-rupture strength and creep resistance up to 920∘C. The application components showed unavoidable wear behaviors at high loads due to the reduced resistance of the components. Hence, in order to increase the wear resistance of this alloy, Inconel 625 and Nimonic 90 particle depositions have been carried out on Nimonic 90 substrate through the laser-cladding techniques to study the microstructure, mechanical and tribological behaviors of alloys. The phases, microstructure and microhardness of the claddings were investigated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and hardness test, respectively. Results showed that the mean thickness of the interfacial layer of Inconel 625 and Nimonic 90 was 18.51 ± 4 μ m and 90.68 ± 7 μ m, respectively. The microstructure of the cladding surfaces resulted in dendritic and interdendritic structures. An overall analysis found that the gamma-Ni and hard laves phases were presented in Inconel 625 and Nimonic 90 clad surfaces, respectively. Nimonic 90 clad surface had a high hardness and wear resistance compared with Inconel 625 clad surface and substrate due to the present hard laves phase. Plant-mediated processes offer a more straightforward and cost-effective alternative to conventional chemical and physical methods for the reduction of silver ions to silver metallic nanoparticles. This study was conducted to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a solution of silver nitrate (AgNO3) and a local Basciftlik white potato cultivar (S. tuberosum). Furthermore, the study aimed to compare antioxidant activity of nano-silver particles with that of the potato extract. The potato cultivar was extracted with deionized water and the solution was filtrated. The filtrate was reacted with AgNO3 solution to obtain the AgNPs. The structure of synthesized AgNPs was determined by a spectroscopic study, and characteristic functional groups were analyzed by a fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The signal observed at 3267 cm−1 is indicative of the hydroxyl functional group. The highest absorption at 429 nm in ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) spectrum confirmed the occurrence of the synthesized AgNPs. The biogenic crystalline structure of the synthesized AgNPs was verified by an X-ray diffraction analysis. Average size and morphology of the St-AgNPs were determined by Scanning Electron Microscope analysis, which also indicated the formation of the AgNPs with an average size of 37.31 nm. This study successfully synthesized novel phosphors Ca 2 GaTaO 6 : x Dy3+ (CGTO: x Dy3+) and Ca 2 GaTaO 6 :0.06Dy3+, y Sm3+ (CGTO:0.06Dy3+, y Sm3+) using the high temperature solid-phase reaction preparation. The microstructure, optical properties, and energy transfer mechanism of the phosphors were studied through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), photoluminescence (PL) spectra and fluorescence lifetimes. XRD and corresponding refinement results indicate that Dy3+ and Sm3+ ions were effectively doped into the Ca 2 GaTaO 6 (CGTO) lattice. The SEM graphs show that the elements in CGTO:0.06Dy3+, 0.5Sm3+ phosphors are uniformly distributed. PL spectra analysis show the CGTO: x Dy3+ phosphors display two strong emission peaks located at 482 nm for blue emission and 575 nm for yellow emission when excited with 350 nm light. Under uniform conditions, when excited with 365 nm of light, the CGTO:0.06Dy3+, y Sm3+ phosphors emit light that can be tuned with adjustable color coordinates and correlated color temperature (CCT) by incorporating varying proportions of Sm3+ ions. This tunability is achieved through the effective energy migration from Dy3+ to Sm3+ ions within the phosphor material. Furthermore, the emission spectra and weaken lifetimes of the CGTO:0.06Dy3+, y Sm3+ confirm the energy transport between Dy3+ and Sm3+, and the energy transfer efficiency reached to 76 %. At 423 K, the luminescence intensity of CGTO:0.06Dy3+, 0.05Sm3+ phosphor retains 87 % of the intensity observed at 298 K, signifying its excellent thermal durability. Finally, the electroluminescent performance of the CGTO:0.06Dy3+ and CGTO:0.06Dy3+, 0.05Sm3+ phosphors packaged on 365 nm light-emitting diode (LED) chips respectively were studied to investigate the capability applications of the phosphors in white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) field. The CCT of the packaged LEDs decline from 3396 to 2825 K, indicating CGTO:0.06Dy3+, 0.05Sm3+ phosphor shifts to warmer white light. At a voltage input of 3.4 V and a current of 600 mA, the thermal sensing shows that the WLEDs maintain aptitude for 90 min, showing that the packaged WLEDs can function consistently under elevated temperatures. The large temperature differences between day and night in winter at plateau areas can lead to the reduction of skid resistance of roads. However, most of the traditional salt storage and deicing fillers are chlorides, and their long-term usage will cause damage to the ecological environment. In order to achieve green deicing of asphalt pavement, this paper developed efficient and environmentally friendly salt storage fibers for the anti-icing of asphalt pavement, and the optimal components of salt storage fibers were determined. On this basis, the morphology and rust resistance of salt storage fibers were characterized, and the ice suppression and deicing performances were also determined. The experimental results show that the optimal component ratio of anti-icing reagent for sodium acetate, potassium acetate and sodium formate follows 7∶2∶1 and the optimal component ratio of organic salt and fiber is 3∶1 , which can achieve a better ice-melting effect and sustainable economy. According to the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images, the salts in the salt storage fiber are fully absorbed, which has a certain slow-release performance due to the resin package. In addition, the effective anti-icing components of the salt storage fiber are less corrosive to the metal materials, and the asphalt mixtures doped with salt storage fibers can melt ice at the rate of (1,022 g/ h·m2) under relatively low temperatures. Purpose: Paper aims to evaluate the efficiency of traditional chitosan, nano chitosan, and chitosan nanocomposites for consolidating aged papyrus samples. Cellulose-based materials, such as papyrus sheets and paper, which are the most common types of writing supports for works of art in many museums and archive. They are subjected to different types of deterioration factors that may lead to many conservation problems. Consolidation treatment is one of the most common conservation treatments, which should have perform after much testing to select the appropriate consolidants. Design/methodology/approach: This research paper aims to evaluate the resistance of traditional chitosan, nanochitosan and chitosan/zinc oxide nanocomposite as an eco-friendly papyrus strengthening. Untreated and treated papyrus was thermally aged and characterized via scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Antimicrobial activity of the papyrus specimens was also determined against four tested pathogenic bacteria by disc diffusion method: MRSA, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli and P. aeruginosa. Findings: The results revealed that chitosan nanocomposite showed a remarkable enhancement of papyrus tensile properties and presence of ZnO prevents the effects of biodeterioration. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of using some polymers at different concentrations in the consolidation of vegetable-tanned leather artifacts. Design/methodology/approach: New vegetable-tanned leather samples were prepared. The consolidants used were polyacrylamide (PAM) and polymethyl methacrylate/hydroxyethyl methacrylate (MMA-HEMA). Accelerated heat aging was applied to the untreated and treated samples. Analytical techniques used were Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), digital microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), change of color and mechanical properties. Findings: The characteristic FTIR bands showed the effect of accelerated heat aging on the molecular structure of the studied samples, but treated and aged treated samples used were better than aged untreated samples. Microscopic investigations (digital and SEM), and mechanical properties proved that 2% was the best concentration for polymers used. The change in the total color difference of the treated and aged treated samples was limited. Controlled development of novel materials fosters innovation in the electrical sector. The hybrid materials based on magnetic nanocellulose are intriguing since they have many uses in electronics, catalysis, medicine, and ecology. The study investigated the structure and morphology of hybrid nanomaterials made from nanocellulose and cobalt ferrite. The nanocellulose was prepared by TEMPO-oxidation and the cobalt ferrite was prepared by sol-gel auto-combustion method. Using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques, it was determined how nanocellulose loading affected the crystal structure of the synthesized composite. To ascertain the variation in the component concentrations, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) are used. Composite with a higher concentration of nanocellulose fibers (NCF) show lesser particle size, and this may account for the smaller size of nanocellulose fibers, and attachment of nanocellulose nanofibers over the surface of porous cobalt ferrite (CF) found in SEM images. Corundum and transition alumina powders are commonly produced through the Bayer process—that is, by digestion of bauxite in a sodium hydroxide solution, followed by gibbsite precipitation, which contains significant amounts of Na+ ions. During the de‐hydroxylation of gibbsite, Na+ is associated with retardation of the structural phase transformations between transition alumina and corundum (α‐Al2O3) phases, although the exact role of Na is unclear. The influence of Na+ ions on the phase transformation of γ‐Al2O3 to α‐alumina was investigated by varying the concentration of NaOH in aqueous γ‐Al2O3 suspensions. The phase transformation behavior of γ‐Al2O3 was monitored through thermal analysis, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, X‐ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), and transmission electron microscope. As the Na concentration in γ‐alumina suspensions increased, the amount of α‐Al2O3 decreased in samples that were heat treated at 1200°C for 2 h. XPS analysis indicated that washing transition alumina powders with NH4OH solutions had decreased the surface concentration of Na+ and facilitated the phase transformation to α‐Al2O3. Isolation of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) from various sources has previously been carried out to obtain strains that produce high of exopolysaccharide (EPS). Isolate K2, which was LAB isolated from longan (Dimocarpus longan) fruit, can produce EPS. This study aimed to identify isolate K2, and evaluated the effect of supplementation carbon sources (glucose, fructose, sucrose, and lactose) and pH of media (4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) on EPS production. Isolate K2 was identified as Weissella confusa molecularly based on 16S rDNA, the type of carbon source, and the pH of media had significant effects (P<0.05) on EPS production. W. confusa K2 produced EPS that was highest on media with the supplementation of sucrose as a carbon source and produced the lowest EPS on lactose. The amount of EPS produced by W. confusa K2 under alkaline was higher than under acidic, the highest EPS of 47.703 g/L at pH 8 and the lowest EPS at pH 4 of 1.858 g/L. The physical properties showed EPS has good solubility in water with the solubility and Water Holding Capacity (WHC) at 40.533% and 354% respectively. Based on Surface morphology of EPS with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis, the surface structure of EPS was a porous polymer matrix. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR) results of EPS showed the presence of absorption bands as characteristic of carbohydrates, such as the presence of O-H, C-H, C=O, C=C, C-O-C groups, and glycosidic bonds. Cu-containing silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) ceramic composites have been prepared by thermal pyrolysis of polymeric precursors and subsequent spark plasma sintering at 1600 °C. The resulting composites consist of SiO 2 , SiC, free carbon, and Cu-Si alloys. The microstructure of the composites has been identified via optical microscope and SEM. The mechanical properties, including the Vickers hardness, nano-indentation hardness, and Young's modulus, of the SiOC composites have been assessed via indentation methods. The effects of Cu content on the tribological properties of the composites have additionally been investigated under different sliding frequencies against Al 2 O 3 spheres at room temperature. It is shown that the introduction of the Cu-Si alloys is effective in reducing the friction coefficient of the material system, which decreases linearly from 0.27 of monolithic SiOC to 0.15 of SiOC with 7 wt% Cu content at 1 Hz. Raman spectroscopy has highlighted the friction-driven evolution of the free carbon phase in the SiOC ceramics. Bi-layer foamed glass-ceramic has the advantages of both dense and foamed structure which lead to low bulk density and high mechanical strength. We propose a new one-step method to produce bi-layer foamed glass-ceramic using the asynchronous oxidization of B 4 C and SiC. The parent glass is prepared by melting-quenching method, followed by foaming through powder sintering route with addition of B 4 C and SiC. The bi-layer structure and formation of bi-layers are investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray computed tomography, 11B NMR, and high temperature melting observation system (HTMOS). The results show that during the sintering process, the oxidization of B 4 C in top layer at low temperature forms boron oxide and helps the formation of glass melt in the top layer. The oxidization of SiC at high temperature leads to foaming in the top layer. The prepared bi-layer foamed glass-ceramic has low bulk density of 1.06 g·cm−3 and high flexural strength of 26.15 MPa. The American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (Linnaeus, 1758) (Blattodea: Blattidae), is one of the most common pests that thrive in diverse environments and carries various pathogens, causing critical threats to public health and the ecosystem. We thus report in this study the first observation of decapitated American cockroaches as a result of infestation with scuttle fly parasitoids. Interestingly, behavioral alterations in the form of zombification-like behavior could be observed in cockroaches reared in the laboratory before being decapitated, implying that the insect targets cockroach heads. To identify this parasitoid, cockroaches' corpora were isolated in jars, and apodous larvae were observed. Larvae developed into small coarctate pupae, and adults emerged. The scuttle flies were collected and exhibited tiny black, brown, to yellowish bodies. The fly was initially identified based on its morphological properties as a member of the order Diptera, family Phoridae. To provide further insights into the morphological attributes of the phorid species, the fly was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and then identified as Megaselia scalaris accordingly. SEM analysis revealed the distinctive structure of M. scalaris concerning the head, mouth parts, and legs. Specifically, the mouth parts include the labrum, labellum, rostrum, and maxillary palps. Although further investigations are still required to understand the complicated relationships between M. scalaris and American cockroaches, our findings provide a prominent step in the control of American cockroaches using M. scalaris as an efficient biological control agent. Measurements of transport phenomena are constantly plagued by contact resistance, prohibiting the sample's intrinsic electrical or thermal conductivity from being accurately determined. This predicament is particularly severe in thermal transport measurements due to the inability to meet similar impedance requirements for a four-probe method used in electrical resistance measurements. Here, we invent a three-probe measurement method that makes an accurate determination of thermal conductivity possible for nanomaterials. Incorporating electron beam heating provided by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) on a diffusive thermal conductor not only quantifies the thermal contact resistance, which may introduce an error of more than 270% to a sample's thermal conductivity, but also eliminates several device uncertainties that may contribute an additional 17% error in a measurement. The method also enables local temperature measurements, revealing nanoscale structural variations unfound by SEM. Bismuth telluride (Bi2Te3), due to its thermoelectric properties, is an interesting semiconducting material for optoelectronics and energy conversion devices; still, it has limited stability and durability. Under high pressure, we can fine-tune its performance, potentially enhancing its capabilities. The presented work uses the semi-automatic Reddy tube to explore the behavior of bismuth telluride under dynamic pressure. Commercially available bismuth telluride was purchased and subjected to different numbers of shock pulses of 100, 200, 300, and 400 with 2 MPa transient pressure and 864 K transient temperature. XRD, Raman, UV-DRS, PL, and SEM were used to characterize Bi2Te3 and shock-loaded Bi2Te3. The XRD and Raman study confirms that the Bi2Te3 underwent phase transition from Bi2Te3 to Bi4Te5 (rhombohedral to hexagonal) at 300 shock pulses. The optical property of Bi2Te3 was determined using UV-DRS and PL; the bandgap and PL intensity changed with respect to the number of shock pulses. A scanning electron microscope was used to analyze sample morphology. Our findings reveal the reversible phase transition of bismuth telluride from Bi2Te3 to Bi4Te5 under dynamic shock waves, something that has not been reported earlier. Using traditional synthesis methods, Bi4Te5 consume a lot of time, leading to impurities and problems of sample quality. Our results reveal that a rapid and reversible phase transition and unique response to dynamic shock waves will allow excellent technological applications without requiring lengthy and complex synthesis methods, offering enhanced stability and potential advancements in energy conversion devices. Nucleic acid modifications have attracted increasing attention in recent years since they have been found to be related to a number of diseases including cancer. Previous studies have shown that the early development of endometrial cancer (EC) is often accompanied by changes in methylation levels of related genes, and the expression of related proteins that regulate reactive oxygen species (ROS) shows significant differences in EC cells and tissues. However, it has not been reported whether nucleic acid modifications related to methylation or ROS can serve as biomarkers for EC. Accurate quantification of these nucleic acid modifications still has challenges because their amounts in urine are very low and the interferences in urine are complicated. In this study, a novel dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) method based on chitosan-carbon nanotube-Al2O3 (CS-CNT-Al2O3) has been established for the analysis of 5-hydroxymethyluracil (5 mU), 5-methyl-2′-deoxycytidine (5-mdC), 5-hydroxymethyl-2′-deoxycytidine (5-hmdC), 5-formyl-2′-deoxycytidine (5-fdC), and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in EC patient urine samples coupled with UHPLC-QE-Orbitrap-MS/MS and HPLC–UV. Firstly, the synthesis of the CS-CNT-Al2O3 nanocomposite was conducted by a sono-coprecipitation method and was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Under the optimal extraction conditions of DSPE, we successfully quantified 5 mU, 5-mdC, 5-hmdC, 5-fdC, and 8-OHdG in urine samples from 37 EC patients and 39 healthy controls. The results showed that there were significant differences in the levels of 5-mdC, 5-hmdC, 5-fdC, and 8-OHdG in EC patients compared to the healthy control group. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was carried out to evaluate the potential of 5-mdC, 5-hmdC, 5-fdC, and 8-OHdG to distinguish EC patients from healthy volunteers. The area under the curve (AUC) for 5-mdC, 5-hmdC, 5-fdC, and 8-OHdG was 0.7412, 0.667, 0.8438, and 0.7981, respectively. It indicated that 5-mdC, 5-hmdC, 5-fdC, and 8-OHdG had certain potential in distinguishing between EC patients and healthy volunteers and they could act as potential non-invasive biomarkers for early diagnosis of EC. Lead-free antiferroelectric AgNbO3 ceramics have garnered extensive attention due to their rapid charge/discharge capabilities and environmentally friendly nature, holding immense potential for energy storage applications. However, the practical utilization of AgNbO3 has been hindered by its low energy storage density. This study employed an A/B-site co-doping strategy, which yielded positive effects on the energy performance of AgNbO3 ceramics. By modifying the A/B-sites with equivalent amounts of Bi3+ and Y3+ ions, enhanced maximum polarization, improved breakdown field, and slimmer hysteresis loops were simultaneously achieved, as the combined effects of refined grain size, wider optical bandgap, and randomly distributed antiferroelectric nanodomains, which were verified through the scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and ultraviolet–visible spectrum. As a consequence, a high energy storage density of 5.40 J/cm3 accompanied by an energy storage efficiency of 56.5% was achieved in the Ag0.97Bi0.01Nb0.994Y0.01O3 ceramic under a relatively low electric field of 190 kV/cm. This study underscores the effectiveness of A/B-site aliovalent co-doping as a viable strategy for developing high-performance ceramic capacitors for energy storage applications. Compared with cold spraying and electroplating, laser cladding is also an efficient and reliable surface modification technique to prepare pure copper coating, yet with uniqueness such as the combination of forming metallurgical bonding with substrate and high deposition rate. As such, pure copper coating with different overlap rates was successfully prepared on the Q245R substrate. The surface quality, defects quantity, phase composition, grain orientation, and corrosion behavior were investigated by surface profiler, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer, X-ray diffraction, electron backscattered diffraction, and electrochemical analysis. As the overlap rate increases, the surface roughness decreases then increases, and the pores and unfused defects disappear then reappear. The grain formation changes from columnar to equiaxed crystals and then to columnar crystals, with the orientation of grains shifting from 100 to 101 direction. Further analysis revealed that the pure copper coating with a 70% overlap rate possesses fewer pores, unfused defects, and no interfacial cracks, thus the best compactness. Moreover, the pure copper coating with a 70% overlap rate in 3 mol/L NaCl solution exhibits the best corrosion resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Shellac, a naturally degradable material, was used as a carrier to load some functional and active compounds in the packaging fields. It is rarely used directly as a substrate to prepare packing films due to its unsatisfactory solubility and mechanical properties. In this research, ammonia was used as a solvent to dissolve shellac which helped form a smooth and tough shellac film via the interaction between shellac and ammonia. Moreover, a shellac composite film was formed by additional cellulose nanofibers (CNF). The properties of the shellac composite films (SAmCxPS) were regulated by modulating the concentrations of ammonia and CNF. The prepared films were characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), NanoS Zetasizer, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and their tensile strength was also determined. The results revealed that the shellac composite films were successfully prepared and were very thermally stable. The maximum tensile stress of the shellac composite films with 0.9 wt% CNF could reach 20.5 MPa. Such a high tensile stress indicated significantly improved mechanical properties. Moreover, the shellac composite films also showed good UV barrier properties, which reduced the ripeness of the fruit. Glass fiber‐reinforced resin matrix composites have good mechanical and impact resistance properties, while with particle co‐reinforcement, a synergistic effect can further improve their performance. In this paper, continuous glass fiber‐reinforced nylon 6 (GF/PA6) and continuous glass fiber (GF) with glass beads (GBs) co‐reinforced nylon 6 (GB–GF/PA6) were prepared to investigate the co‐reinforcement mechanism and the synergistic effect of particle and fiber. A quantitative parameter of the residual impact force divided by the critical force Pr/Pcr, as the damage degree of the low‐velocity impact, is defined to evaluate the impact resistance of the composite. The results indicate that the damage of GB–GF/PA6 was lower than that of GF/PA6, and the synergistic effect reaches the most obvious at the GB addition of 10 wt%. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and x‐ray computed tomography (XCT) images disclose that GB impedes the type II crack spread in the matrix and fiber/matrix interface. With the type II cracks reducing, the materials' resistance to delamination can be significantly enhanced. For the composite structure, in which 10 wt% GB and 60 wt% GF are introduced, the flexural strength, shear strength, and pendulum impact strength were tested with the maximum values of 379.4 MPa, 53.1 MPa, and 219.0 J/m2, respectively. This composite structure design, presenting a continuous GF and GBs co‐reinforce effect, offers a manufacturing process that is easily scalable to achieve excellent characteristics.
