A planning study for launching the Atmospheric Observation Satellite (ATMOS)-A as a main mission of rainfall observation is described. The aim of study is for quantitative understanding of rainfall events which plays an important role in the heat circulation in the earth's atmosphere. On-board sensors planned for the satellite include a Precipitation Radar (PR)-2, an Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR), a visible and infrared scanner, and an ultraviolet and infrared global radiometer. The required performance of PR-2 for the direct measurement of rainfall is explained. It was planned to utilize two radar frequencies to achieve observations of higher accuracy. This involves construction of a system equal to or better than the TRMM (Tropical Rain Measuring Mission) PR in terms of weight and power consumption. Two cases of the use of PR-2 were analyzed and evaluated in order to establish required performance. A case where simultaneous observation of the same location was made with two frequencies, 14 GHz and 35 GHz was indicated to have higher potential. Design of AMSR to observe evaporated moisture from land and sea and atmospheric moisture is explained. In the baseline plan, the improved AMSR was constructed of a sensor and a control unit. The sensor comprises an antenna unit, a calibration unit, a rotary unit, and a portion of an electric circuit. The control unit comprises an electric circuit to control driving of the sensor and a momentum wheel to compensate for angular momentum caused by rotating sensor. In conclusion, it is now possible to establish basic mission concepts and a concept design for the ATMOS-A mission., 降雨観測を主目的とする大気観測衛星(ATMOS)-Aの打ち上げ計画について述べた。この研究の目的は地球大気の熱循環にとって重要な役割を果たす降雨事象を定量的に理解することである。衛星に搭載が計画されているセンサには降水レーダ(PR)-2、高性能マイクロ波走査電波計(AMSR)、可視および赤外光走査計、紫外および赤外領域の全球電波計である。降雨量の直接測定を目的としたPR-2の要求される性能について説明した。従来より精度の高い測定を達成するために2個のレーダ周波数を用いることを検討した。この計画には従来の熱帯降雨観測ミッション(TRMM)よりも重量および電力消費量に関してすぐれたシステムの建設を取り入れた。要求される性能を確立するために、PR-2を用いる2つの場合について解析、評価した。この結果、14GHzおよび35GHzの2個の周波数を用いて同一地点を同時観測する設計のほうが有利な条件を備えていることを示した。つぎに、陸および海域からの蒸発水蒸気と大気中の水蒸気を観測するためのAMSRについて説明した。基本設計では改良型のAMSRはセンサ部と制御部より構成された。センサ部はアンテナ、検定、回転ドライブ、および電気回路の各ユニットから構成された。制御部はセンサの駆動を制御するための電気回路とセンサの回転によって生ずる角運動量の補償のための運動量回転盤より構成された。結論として、観測計画の基本概念およびATMOS-Aの概念設計を確立する可能性を明らかにした。

Development of ADEOS (Advanced Earth Observing Satellite)-2 is in progress at NASDA, which is to be launched in 1999. For the purpose of the continuous monitoring of the changes in the global environment, a first study on the mission requirement of an advanced satellite was conducted. This is called ADEOS-3, the polar orbit sun synchronous global observation satellite, based on the results of the observation and the observational technology obtained in the ADEOS missions. The domestic geoscience research programs were reviewed, and the observation items of ADEOS-3 were selected in order to provide basic data to these research areas. The ADEOS-3 mission plans to provide relevant data effectively to enable mutual complementation with EOS (Earth Observation Satellite) plan in USA and similar plans in Europe. By this study, the fundamental mission concept and the base line for technology development of the ADEOS-3 mission were defined., NASDAは1999年に環境観測技術衛星(ADEOS)-2を打ち上げることを目標に開発を進めている。地球環境変化を長期的に継続観測するために、より高度な観測を行うためのミッション要求の1次検討作業を実施した。これは、ADEOSシリーズで行われた観測結果と観測技術の現状を踏まえた、次期極軌道太陽同期グローバル観測衛星ミッション(ADEOS-3)である。国内の地球科学研究プログラムを調査し、これらの研究に基礎データを供給できるようADEOS-3の観測項目を設定した。海外の衛星プログラムとの比較検討することにより、ADEOS計画が、米国の地球観測衛星(EOS)計画やヨーロッパの計画とも相互に補完し合い、有効なデータ取得が可能になるように進められるものである。本研究により、ADEOS-3における基本的なミッション・コンセプトおよび技術開発に向けてのベースラインの設定を明確にすることができた。

The detailed design of the Mars transfer orbit was studied using the interplanetary transfer orbit simulation code VENUS. Necessary velocity increment and true anomaly at the time of injection into transfer orbit were determined to set the date for a rocket to be injected into a transfer orbit. After the date was set, satellite velocity vectors and position vectors at injection time in both cases of neglecting and considering the earth gravitation were determined. Launch time was set between 20 days before and 30 days after November 11, 1996. Orbit transfers to the Mars were calculated with VENUS code for every 10-days injection during the launch time. It was due to the non-zero eccentricity of both the terrestrial and the Mars orbits that the solution of the optimum two-impulse method differed from the Hohmann orbit, which was the orbit to transfer from a circular orbit to another circular orbit. Since the optimum two-impulse method did not take mid-course maneuver into consideration, the minimum velocity increment point appeared when the Mars was on the ecliptic plane at the arrival time. The nominal launch day, November 11,1996, was the time when the Mars located almost on the ecliptic plane. Then it was possible to utilize the earth velocity, at its maximum, at the time of launch. On the other hand, when launch time was set at 20 days before the nominal day, velocity increment became large, since the Mars did not locate on the ecliptic plane and the transfer angle exceeds 250 degrees. When the time of launch was set at 30 days after the nominal day, velocity increment was needed in the direction out of the ecliptic plane at the time of injection into a transfer orbit, since the transfer angle was nearly equal to 180 degrees and orbital inclination became large due to the location of the Mars away from the ecliptic plane., 惑星間遷移軌道シミュレーション・プログラムVENUSを用いて火星遷移軌道詳細設計を行った。必要増速度量および遷移軌道投入時の真近点離角を求めて、遷移軌道投入期日を設定した。期日設定後、地球重力を無視した遷移軌道投入時の衛星速度ベクトルから、地球重力を考慮した遷移軌道投入時の衛星速度ベクトル、位置ベクトルを設定した。打ち上げ期間はノミナル打ち上げ日を1996年11月11日として、前20日間、後30日間で、その間の10日おきに火星へ遷移する軌道を、VENUSを用いて作成した。最適2インパルス法による解が円軌道から円軌道へのホーマン軌道と異なっているのは、地球軌道、火星軌道ともに非零の離心率を持つためである。最適2インパルス法では、ミッドコースマヌーバを考慮していないため、到達時に火星が黄道面上に位置していると増速度量最小点が現れる。ノミナル打ち上げ日とした1996年11月11日は、火星が黄道面とほぼ一致する。そのため、打ち上げ時に地球の速度を最大限利用することが可能である。これに対して、ノミナル打ち上げ日より20日前に打ち上げを行う場合には、火星が黄道面上に位置せず、遷移離角も250度を越えているため、増速度量が大きくなっている。ノミナル打ち上げ日より30日後に打ち上げを行う場合には軌道の遷移離角が180度に近く、火星も黄道面上に位置していないため、遷移軌道の軌道傾斜角が大きくなり、遷移軌道投入時に黄道面外方向に大きな速度を必要とする。

As a continuation of the studies performed in the previous fiscal year, the study of feasibility of conducting the dynamic surface deformation measurement on the liquid bridge, to be utilized for the liquid bridge Marangoni convection experiments using the JEM Fluid Physics Experiment Facility (FPEF), was performed. From these studies, the specifications of the experiment cell was established based on the studies of installing the Dynamic Surface Deformation (DSD) measurement device into the experiment cell, and the detailed measurement based on the Microscopic Imaging Displacement Meter (MIDM) method for liquid bridge dynamic surface measurement. This study also included the compatibility with the FPEF and confirmed that all interfaces conform to the requirements. Furthermore, items that require confirmation in order to meet the experiment requirements were extracted and a draft of the development plan that reflect these confirmation items was established., NASDA Technical Memorandum, 宇宙開発事業団技術報告
