The p - p-chain reaction 3He(α, γ)7Be can sensitively influence the prediction of the 7Be and 8B neutrino fluxes. Despite its importance, the knowledge of its reaction cross section at energies of the core of the Sun (15 keV 30 keV) is limited and the accuracy far from the desired 3% level. In the present paper the indirect measurement of the external capture contribution using the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) technique is reported. The angular distributions of deuterons emitted in the 6Li(3He,d)7Be α-transfer reactions were measured and the ANCs extracted from the scaling of distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) and coupled-channel (CC) calculations. Then, the astrophysical S-factor for the 3He(α, γ)7Be reaction was calculated assuming E1 direct capture and the zero energy value turned out to be 0.534 0.025 keVb. Both our experimental and theoretical approaches were benchmarked through the analysis of the 6Li(p,γ)7Be astrophysical factor, with interesting astrophysical applications to the understanding of the primordial lithium problem. In particular, the present work disfavors the occurrence of a claimed 200 keV resonance in the astrophysical factor.

The Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient (ANC) method has proven to be useful in retrieving the direct part of the radiative capture cross section for a number of reactions of astrophysical interest. In this work, the study of the 26Si(p, γ)27P reaction, studied via the ANC in its extension for mirror nuclei will be discussed.

In this work, some of the latest results obtained by the AsFin2 group of the LSN-INFN (Catania) and the OJR of the NPI (Řež) will be briefly discussed.

Among the indirect methods to determine nuclear cross-section present in literature, the so-called Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient (ANC) has proven to be useful in retrieving the direct part of a radiative capture cross-section in reactions of interest for astrophysics. In this work, the method will be presented, and some results obtained in collaboration between NPI CAS and INFN-LNS will be presented.

Two nuclear reactions of astrophysical interest, 26Mg(3He,d)27Al and 26Mg(d,p)27Mg, were measured for extraction of the Asymptotic Normalization Coefficients. Investigation of the target composition is presented, as well as the effects that showed up during analysis of the in-beam data obtained on CANAM accelerators in the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (NPI CAS).

We attempted to determine the astrophysical S-factor of the direct part of the 18O(p, γ)19F capture by the indirect method of asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANC). We measured the differential cross section of the transfer reaction 18O(3He, d)19F at a 3He energy of 24.6 MeV. The measurement was realized on the cyclotron of the NPI in Řež, Czech Republic, with the gas target consisting of the high purity 18O (99.9 %). The reaction products were measured by eight ∆E-E telescopes composed from thin and thick silicon surface-barrier detectors. The parameters of the optical model for the input channel were deduced by means of the code ECIS and the analysis of transfer reactions to 12 levels of the 19F nucleus up to 8.014 MeV was made by the code FRESCO. The deduced ANCs were then used to specify the direct contribution to the 18O(p, γ)19F capture process and were compared with the mutually different results of two works.

The cyclotron driven fast quasi-monoenergetic neutron source based on the p+ 9Be (thin target) reaction was studied at the proton energy around 30 MeV Due to higher melting point of Be, the p+ 9Be(thin), reaction could be considered as an alternative to the most used p+Li(thin) neutron source, providing a similar quasi-monoenergetic neutron spectrum at significantly higher neutron output owing to advance in higher incident proton beam current. The neutron spectrum measured by the time-of-flight method agrees with other experimental data and indicates dominant contribution of ground and first excited states leading to only two peaks, separated by some 2–3 MeV, in the p+thin 9Be neutron spectrum.

Numerous domains, in fundamental research as well as in applications, require the study of reactions induced by neutrons with energies from few MeV up to few tens of MeV. Reliable measurements also are necessary to improve the evaluated databases used by nuclear transport codes. This energy range covers a large number of topics like transmutation of nuclear waste, design of future fission and fusion reactors, nuclear medicine or test and development of new detectors. A new facility called Neutrons For Science (NFS) is being built for this purpose on the GANIL site at Caen (France). NFS is composed of a pulsed neutron beam for time-of-flight facility as well as irradiation stations for cross-section measurements. Neutrons will be produced by the interaction of deuteron and proton beams, delivered by the SPIRAL-2 linear accelerator, with thick or thin converters made of beryllium or lithium. Continuous and quasi-mono-energetic spectra will be available at NFS up to 40 MeV. In this fast energy region, the neutron flux is expected to be up to 2 orders of magnitude higher than at other existing time-of-flight facilities. In addition, irradiation stations for neutron-, proton- and deuteron-induced reactions will allow performing cross-section measurements by the activation technique. After a description of the facility and its characteristics, the experiments to be performed in the short and medium term will be presented.

The proton and deuteron induced reactions have a great interest for the assessment of induced radioactivity of accelerator components. Such data are needed for estimation of the potential radiation hazard from the accelerating cavities and beam transport elements. Continuing previous irradiation experiments on copper, we provided two short run to obtain cross-section data for 65Cu(d, p)66Cu reaction. We carried out irradiation experiments with the variable-energy cyclotron U-120M of the Nuclear Physics Institute Řež. The stacked-foil technique was utilized. Because of a relatively short half life (T1/2 = 5, 120 min) and a strong annihilation peak, we placed the 1 cm Pb plate between the irradiated sample and the gamma-ray detector to reduce the dead time. The absolute values of cross-sections were calculated from the induced activities measured by the calibrated HPGe detector. The comparison of present results with data of other authors and prediction of different libraries and model calculation is discussed.

Energy spectra to the ground state and excited states of 46Ti have been measured for the 45Sc(3He, d)46Ti reaction at a bombarding energy of 29 MeV. Excited levels of 46Ti were observed in a wide energy range from 2 to 16.5 MeV. Levels from 10.4 to 16.5 MeV are observed for the first time and populated with a high probability. The population of high-lying states with energies Ex ≥ 10 MeV in 46Ti and their structure can be explained as the lowest excited levels of the 42Ca + 4He alpha-cluster system corresponding to the superdeformed state of 46Ti.
