The Degree of Linear Polarization (DoLP) is a key dimension of information in polarization imaging. The quality of polarization images is greatly affected by imaging equipment and environmental factors. Therefore, an enhancement method for the DoLP image is proposed in this paper. First, a super-resolution reconstruction algorithm based on the Detail Enhancement Guided Image Filter is proposed to solve the problem of mosaicization and pseudo-polarization information caused by the degradation of spatial resolution and super-resolution reconstruction of DoFP imaging. Second, for the problem of rapid degradation of polarization image quality caused by hazy environment, a DoLP enhancement algorithm based on multi-channel difference Signal-to-Noise Ratio is proposed to improve the visual effect of polarization images in different scenes with hazy environment. The method proposed in this paper implements super-resolution reconstruction, demosaicing, pseudo-polarization information removal, and adaptive enhancement of DoLP images in DoFP systems. Microplastics (MPs) have been given considerable attention due to their risk to aquatic organisms in marine environments. In this study, MPs' abundance and their potential correlation with environmental factors were investigated from 26 sites in Daya Bay, South China Sea. The results showed that the abundance of MPs was 1.8–13.87 items/L in surface water and 190–823 items/kg (dry weight) in sediment. The most abundant shape of MPs in both water and sediment was fiber, the most abundant particle size was 0.5–1 mm and the most abundant color was transparent. In addition, the most common polymer type of MPs was polyethylene terephthalate (PET), followed by rayon (RY), polypropylene (PP), cellulose (CL) and polyethylene (PE). The abundance of MPs in sediment was significantly correlated with sediment organic N and C (p < 0.05), while that in surface water had no significant correlation with the environmental factors except dissolved oxygen (p > 0.05). A factor analysis showed that MPs in sediment might share similar sources with organic N and C, which were mainly from the autochthonous sedimentation of marine organisms, and MPs might sediment jointly with organic matter. In summary, this study reflects on MP pollution and the potential correlation with environmental factors, providing essential data for governmental agencies to formulate microplastic pollution control policies. Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs), defined as plastic particles smaller than 5 mm and 100 nm, respectively, have emerged as significantly hazardous contaminants in global environments. These particles originate from various sources, including industrial products, consumer goods, and the degradation of larger plastic debris. Micro (nano)plastics (MNPs) have become ubiquitous contaminants in aquatic ecosystems, raising concerns about their uptake and distribution within aquatic biota and their potential ecological impacts. This review presents a comprehensive overview of the transfer and hazards of MNPs in aquatic environments, with a focus on their toxicity to aquatic organisms, including size-dependent effects, tissue distribution within organisms, and trophic transfer along the food chain. Once ingested, MNPs can distribute within the organs and tissues, such as gastrointestinal tract, gills, liver, among others. Moreover, the ingestion of MNPs by primary consumers can lead to their transfer along the food chain, potentially causing bioaccumulation and biomagnification. The presence of MNPs poses significant risks to aquatic organisms, affecting their survival, growth, reproduction, and behavior. The size of particles plays a crucial role, with smaller particles often exhibiting more pronounced toxic effects. Understanding these aspects is essential for addressing the ecological consequences of plastic pollution and developing effective mitigation strategies. Nanoplastics and di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) are ubiquitous emerging contaminants that are transferred among organisms through food chain in the ecosystem. This study evaluated the trophic transfer of polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs) and DEHP in a food chain including Chlorella pyrenoidosa , Daphnia magna and Micropterus salmoides (algae-crustacean-fish) and lipid metabolism at a higher trophic level in fish. Our results showed that the PSNPs and DEHP accumulated in C. pyrenoidosa or D. magna were transferred to the M. salmoides , of which the DEHP were not biomagnified, while the PSNPs were trophically amplified by the food chain. It is suggested that more PSNPs might be accumulated by higher level consumers in a longer food chain. Additionally, the trophic transfer of PSNPs and DEHP resulted in antioxidant response and histopathological damage in M. salmoides. Moreover, the lipid biochemical parameters and lipid metabolism related genes (fasn , hsl , cpt1a , atgl , apob , fabp1 , lpl , cetp) of M. salmoides were significantly affected, which indicated disturbance of lipid metabolism. This study offers great insight into the transfer of contaminants by trophic transfer and their negative effects on organisms at higher trophic levels, which cause human exposure to MNPs and organic contaminants in the ecosystem. Microalgae exhibit diverse and high nutritional value, and therefore, have a huge potential application as a raw material for the preparation of aquafeeds. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of low-level replacement of dietary fishmeals by algal meals comprised of Schizochytrium limacinum (SL) and Nannochloropsis salina (NS) individually and in combination in the diet of juvenile largemouth bass (LMB, Micropterus salmoides). Five isonitrogenous, isolipidic, and isoenergetic diets with fishmeal-based diets as control, and four experimental diets with replacement by individual 4% SL (4SL), individual 4% NS (4NS), 2% SL combined with 2% NS (2SL + 2NS) and 4% SL combined with 4% NS (4SL + 4NS) were formulated. Five hundred juvenile fish (average weight 8.72 ± 0.10 g) were evenly distributed to five groups with quadruplicate each, in twenty fiberglass tanks and fed for eight weeks. Our results showed that there were no significant difference in weight gain, special gain rate, hepatosomatic index, viscerasomatic index, conditioning factor, and the whole-body composition among the five groups (p > 0.05). However, feed intake and feed conversion ratio in the 4NS treatment were significantly higher (p < 0.05) compared with the control. Further, lipid content and intraperitoneal fat ratio in the liver of the 4NS and 4NS + 4SL groups were significantly decreased, suggesting that NS may reduce visceral fat accumulation in LMB. The serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of LMB in the 4NS group was significantly increased compared with the control (p < 0.05). However, malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the liver of the 4NS group and intestine of the 4SL + 4NS group was significantly lower than that in the control (p < 0.05). Replacement with 4% SL significantly increased docosahexaenoic acid, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and n-3 PUFA proportions in the liver. Further, SL alone or in combination with NS increased the n-3 to n-6 ratio of PUFAs in the liver and muscle, creating more balanced unsaturated fatty acids. The fillet texture was significantly enhanced by taste and flavor. Organic pollutants such as di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) interact with nanoplastics (NPs) and change their bioavailability and toxicity to aquatic organisms. This study aims to assess the ecotoxicological impacts of NPs in the presence and absence of DEHP on juvenile largemouth bass (LMB) Micropterus salmoides. Therefore, LMB was fed with diets containing various concentrations (0, 2, 10, and 40 mg/g) of polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs) by the weight of diets. After a 21-day of PSNPs dietary exposure, LMB was treated with DEHP at 450 μg/L through waterborne exposure for three days. Our results showed that PSNPs were accumulated in the intestinal tissues, which significantly decreased the feeding and growth rates in LMB. The histopathological analysis showed the intestine and liver of LMB were subjected to various degrees of structural damage caused by PSNPs, and DEHP-PSNP co-exposure enhanced those histopathological damages in both tissues. Additionally, the co-exposure induced oxidative stress in terms of increased activities of glutathione S-transferase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase enzymes in the liver, intestine, spleen, and serum. Furthermore, the co-exposure significantly changed the intestinal microbial composition, i.e., the decrease in the abundance of probiotics (Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria) and the increase in pathogenic bacteria (Firmicutes) posed a great threat to fish metabolism and health. Therefore, this study highlights that the presence of DEHP enhances the toxicity of NPs on LMB in freshwater and suggests the regulated use of plastic and its additives for improving the health status of aquaculture fish for food safety in humans. Nanoplastics (NPs) are good carriers of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and can alter their bioavailability and toxic impacts to aquatic organisms. This study highlights the single and combined toxic effects of polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) and 2,2′,4,4′-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47, one of the dominant congeners of PBDEs) on zebrafish embryos after an exposure duration of up to 120 hpf. Results showed that PS-NPs and BDE-47 co-exposure exacerbated the morphological deformities in terms of pericardial edema, yolk sac edema and curved tail in zebrafish larvae. Compared to BDE-47 single exposure, the combined exposure caused lower survival rates, shorter body lengths, and accelerated spontaneous movements. Further, PS-NPs were quickly aggregated on the surface of the embryonic chorions covered almost the entire membrane at 12 and 48 hpf, and concentration dependent accumulation was also found in the brain, mouth, trunk, gills, heart, liver and gastrointestinal tract at the larval stages. During the recovery period (7 days), PS-NPs were released from all the organs, with the highest elimination from the gastrointestinal tract. Histopathological examination revealed that co-exposure caused greater damage to retinal structures, muscle fibers and cartilage tissues. Responses of hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis (CRH, TSHβ, NIS, TTR, Dio2, TG, TRα and TRβ) and reproduction (Esr2 and Vtg1) related genes were also investigated, and results showed that the co-exposure induced more significant upregulated expressions of TSHβ, TG, Doi 2, and TRβ, compared to BDE-47 single exposure. In conclusion, co-exposure to NPs and BDE-47 exacerbated developmental and thyroid toxicity in zebrafish, generally elucidating the toxicological effects mediated by complex chemical interactions between NPs with POPs in the freshwater environment. Fish is currently considered a primary protein in the human diet, and the high demand for fish will stimulate the growth of aquaculture. However, a lack of high-quality fish feed (fishmeal) has led to a decline in the quality and yield of aquatic products. Therefore, an alternative high-quality protein source for fish meal is required to sustain the industry. This study assessed the effects of incorporating Spirulina platensis (SP) dried powder as a partial replacement for fishmeal and supplementing with S. platensis purified polysaccharides (PSP) on the growth, nutritional value, and health status of the largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides, to address the challenges of fishmeal scarcity and promote sustainable development in fish aquaculture. Juveniles were fed four isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets containing SP at 0% (SP0), 3% (SP3) and 6% (SP6) and PSP at 0.3% for 56 days. The results showed that both the SP3 and SP6 groups displayed significantly (P < 0.05) improved growth performance and lower hepatosomatic indices than the control diet (SP0). Whole-body crude protein and protein efficiency significantly increased in both the SP3 and SP6 groups compared with SP0 (P < 0.05). Conversely, crude lipid content notably (P < 0.05) decreased in SP3 (5.96%) and SP6 (5.41%) in contrast to SP0 (6.59%). The muscle amino acid composition of the PSP, SP3, and SP6 groups also improved significantly (P < 0.05) compared to that of the SP0. Liver SOD activity was significantly increased from 1.11 U/mg in SP0 to 1.22–1.24 U/mg in SP3 and SP6 (P < 0.05), while MDA levels declined accordingly. Serum triglyceride levels were significantly lower in SP3 than in SP0 (P < 0.05) but remained stable in the SP6 and PSP groups. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol decreased significantly in the SP3 and SP6 groups, but no significant effect was observed in the PSP group. Alanine aminotransferase activity was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the PSP, SP3, and SP6 groups than in SP0. Aspartate aminotransferase activity in PSP and SP3 was significantly lower than in SP0 (P < 0.05), but showed no significant difference with SP6 (P > 0.05). Intestinal trypsin and amylase activities significantly improved in the PSP, SP3, and SP6 groups (P < 0.05), and lipase activities in PSP and SP3 increased significantly compared to those in SP0 (P < 0.05). The intestinal microbiome displayed significantly higher Shannon index scores for SP3 (0.83) and SP6 (0.93) than for SP0 (0.61). The relative abundances of the phylum Fusobacteria and genus Cetobacterium were significantly increased, whereas Proteobacteria and Plesiomonas were significantly decreased in the PSP and SP3 groups compared with that in SP0 (P < 0.05). The present study indicated that the replacement of fishmeal with 3–6% SP and 0.3% PSP addition could improve the growth performance, protein efficiency, muscle nutritional value, liver health, antioxidant capacity, intestinal digestive enzyme activity, and intestinal microbiota diversity of the largemouth bass. The widespread distribution of micro(nano)plastics (MNPs) and bisphenols (BPs) in the environment inevitably resulted in their multifaceted interactions and associated detrimental effects being largely uncharted yet. Hence, this review summarized available studies highlighting the environmental occurrence, sorption mechanisms, and eco-toxicological effects of MNPs and BPs. The existing data indicated that the environmental concentrations of the adsorbed bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) on MNPs were 9.52–4961 ng/g and 1.89–118 ng/g of plastic particles, respectively, while bisphenol F (BPF) was below the detection limit. Hydrophobic interaction force was predominantly observed as the main factor in maintaining the adsorption of MNPs and BPA/S, whereas electrostatic repulsion between MNPs and BPF inhibited the adsorption of BPF onto plastic particles. Moreover, co-exposure to MNPs and BPs posed immune responses, neurotoxicity, reproductive inhibition and even survival impairment in test organisms. This review implied that it would facilitate the evaluation of the ecological safety and environmental risks of MNPs and BPs as well as contribute to theoretical guidance for their pollution prevention and control. Plastic particles of diameters ranging from 1 to 1000 nm and > 1 µm to 5 mm are respectively known as nanoplastics and microplastics, and are collectively termed micro(nano)plastics (MNPs). They are ubiquitously present in aquatic and terrestrial environments, posing adverse multifaceted ecological impacts. Recent transgenerational studies have demonstrated that MNPs negatively impact both the exposed parents and their unexposed generations. Therefore, this review summarizes the available research on the transgenerational impacts of MNPs in aquatic and terrestrial organisms, induced by exposure to MNPs alone or in combination with other organic and inorganic chemicals. The most commonly reported transgenerational effects of MNPs include tissue bioaccumulation and transfer, affecting organisms' survival, growth, reproduction, and energy metabolism; inducing oxidative stress; enzyme and genetic responses; and causing tissue damage. Similarly, co-exposure to MNPs and chemicals (organic and inorganic pollutants) significantly impacts survival, growth, and reproduction and induces oxidative stress, thyroid disruption, and genetic toxicity in organisms. The characteristics of MNPs (degree of aging, size, shape, polymer type, and concentration), exposure type and duration (parental exposure vs. multigenerational exposure and acute exposure vs. chronic exposure), and MNP-chemical interactions are the main factors affecting transgenerational impacts. Selecting MNP properties based on their realistic environmental behavior, employing more diverse animal models, and considering chronic exposure and MNP-chemical mixture exposure are salient research prospects for an in-depth understanding of the transgenerational impacts of MNPs. Nanoplastics (NPs) are emerging environmental contaminants with alarming ecological and human health concerns due to their unique physicochemical properties. This study elucidates the impacts of environmentally relevant concentrations (ERCs, 300 and 3000 ng/L) and sublethal concentrations (SLCs, 300 and 3000 μg/L) of polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs, size 80 nm) on the intestinal immune response and gut microbiota of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). Exposure to SLCs showed greater accumulation of NPs in gut and gill tissue, and more pronounced gut damage (vacuolization of gut villi) compared to ERCs. SLCs significantly increased ROS levels with increasing exposure duration and exposure concentration (p < 0.05). In addition, SLCs significantly increased the transcription levels of several immune response-related genes such as IL-6 , IL-8 , IL-10 , IL-1β , and TNF-α (p < 0.05). However, the ERC exposure group at 3000 ng/L significantly increased the expression levels of IL-10 and TNF-α , compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Moreover, PS-NPs at both ERCs and SLCs significantly alter grass carp gut microbiota at the phylum and genus levels and disrupts microbial community composition and homeostasis (p < 0.05). At the phylum level, the abundance of Proteobacteria and Verrucomicrobiota was increased after PS-NPs exposure, while that of Spirochaetota and Fusobacteriota decreased. At the genus level, the number of beneficial bacteria decreased and the number of pathogenic bacteria increased. Our findings suggest that PS-NPs at the level of ERCs and SLCs can induce inflammation of the intestine and microbiota imbalance in grass carp. Our findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the gut toxicity of PS-NPs under environmentally relevant conditions in freshwater commercial fish. These experimental results suggest that PS-NPs may indirectly damage grass carp intestinal epithelium by modulating the gut microbiota, thereby damaging the grass carp gut. Hence, this study provides valuable hints on the intestinal barrier structure and functional damage mediated by NPs exposure. Infrared (IR) and visible (VIS) images represent the features of the scene at different wavelengths, and the features they contain have different properties. Therefore, the traditional weighted fusion strategy is challenging to preserve the different types of feature information. In addition, VIS images are highly susceptible to bad weather, which also seriously affects the quality of fused images in complex environments. To solve the above problems, we propose a feature enhancement fusion method. First, a fusion model called contrast enhancement guided filter (CEGF) is proposed. The new model enables the texture information of VIS images to be presented with the intensity of infrared pixels, which solves the problem of combining different attribute features and removes the influence of harsh lighting conditions. To improve the visibility of texture details under different lighting conditions, a contrast modulation factor is added to the cost function design of the filter to enhance the contrast of visible details. Second, we use a dual-scale decomposition strategy to enhance the infrared feature information of the fusion results. Finally, we apply the method of this paper with ten classical image fusion algorithms in two types of datasets. The visual effect and objective evaluation of the fusion results verify that the proposed method preserves the characteristics of the high contrast of IR images and improves the visibility of infrared scenes for subsequent target identification and detection.
