This study investigated the effects of an acute dose (900 mg) of New Zealand Blackcurrant (NZBC) extract on 5-km running performance, alongside associated physiological and metabolic responses. Sixteen trained male runners (age 26 ± 5 years, stature 173.4 ± 7.3 cm, body mass 73.7 ± 6.9 kg, maximal oxygen consumption [ V ˙ O 2 max ] 55.4 ± 6.1 ml·kg−1·min−1) ingested either capsules containing NZBC extract (3 × 300 mg CurraNZ, 315 mg anthocyanins) or a matched placebo (3 × 300 mg gluten-free flour) 2 hr before exercise in a double-blind, randomized, crossover design. Performance time, physiological, and metabolic responses were assessed in a 5-km time trial, preceded by 10-min exercise at the lactate threshold on a treadmill. NZBC extract did not alter the physiological or metabolic responses to exercise at the lactate threshold (oxygen uptake, respiratory exchange ratio, minute ventilation, carbohydrate oxidation, fat oxidation, heart rate, blood lactate, or rating of perceived exertion, p >.05). The 5-km time trial was completed in a faster time in the NZBC extract condition compared with placebo (NZBC: 1,308.96 ± 122.36 s, placebo: 1,346.33 ± 124.44, p =.001, d = −0.23, confidence interval range = [−0.46, 0.00 s]). No differences in physiological or metabolic responses were apparent between conditions for the 5-km time trial (p >.05). Ingesting 900 mg of NZBC extract as an acute dose improves performance in trained male runners without altering physiological or metabolic responses to exercise. Further research is needed to assess a wider range of possible mechanisms (e.g., cardiovascular function, metabolite profiles) to advance insight into improved performance following supplementation. Purpose: Previous research has shown that maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) significantly influences performance in trail-running races up to 120 km but not beyond. Similarly, the influence of running economy on performance in ultratrail remains unclear. The aim of our study was, therefore, to determine the physiological predictors of performance in a 166-km trail-running race. Methods: Thirty-three experienced trail runners visited the laboratory 4 to 8 weeks before the race to undergo physiological testing including an incremental treadmill test and strength assessments. Correlations and regression analyses were used to determine the physiological variables related to performance. Results: Average finishing time was 37:33 (5:52) hours. Performance correlated significantly with VO2max (r = −.724, P <.001), velocity at VO2max (r = −.813, P <.001), lactate turn point expressed as percentage of VO2max (r = −.510, P =.018), cost of running (r = −.560, P =.008), and body fat percentage (r =.527, P =.012) but was not related to isometric strength. Regression analysis showed that velocity at VO2max predicted 65% of the variability in performance (P <.001), while a model combining VO2max and cost of running combined predicted 62% of the variability (P =.008). Conclusion: This is the first study to show that VO2max and velocity at VO2max are significant predictors of performance in a 166-km trail-running race. Lactic acid was formerly regarded as a byproduct of metabolism. However, extensive investigations into the intricacies of cancer development have revealed its significant contributions to tumor growth, migration, and invasion. Posttranslational modifications involving lactate have been widely observed in histone and non-histone proteins, and these modifications play a crucial role in regulating gene expression by covalently attaching lactoyl groups to lysine residues in proteins. This discovery has greatly enhanced our comprehension of lactic acid's involvement in disease pathogenesis. In this article, we provide a comprehensive review of the intricate relationship between lactate and tumor immunity, the occurrence of lactylation in malignant tumors, and the exploitation of targeted lactate-lactylation in tumor immunotherapy. Design and fabrication of pH‐responsive nanofibrous membranes by biomaterials is a key step for drug delivery systems. Currently, there is an increasing attention on design of biocompatible nanofibrous drug delivery systems. Here, a bio‐based pH‐responsive nanofibrous membranes loaded with antibiotic were fabricated for the controlled release of tetracycline hydrochloride (TH). The in vitro drug release behavior of varied pH‐responsive nanofibrous with different mass ratios of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP) was investigated to clarify the release mechanism. TH initial burst release within 20 mins was large than 97.5% for PLA/CAP/TH NFM under alkaline conditions (pH = 8). The antioxidant activity of TH loaded PLA/CAP NFMs are all higher than 55% after 30 mins. The prepared fibrous membranes possess sufficient antibacterial activity against both to Gram‐negative and Gram‐positive bacteria. At the same time, it also has good biocompatibility. Focal slowing on the EEG is often associated with structural pathology of the brain. Despite the clinical significance of focal slowing, the actual electrochemical mechanisms underlying this EEG phenomenon are still poorly understood. This paper briefly reviews the role of lactate in the pathogenesis of brain disorders that are primarily related to focal EEG slowing. Various studies have shown that Hypogymnia physodes are a source of many biologically active compounds, including lichen acids. These lichen-specific compounds are characterized by antioxidant, antiproliferative, and antimicrobial properties, and they can be used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The main aim of this study was to optimize the composition of natural deep eutectic solvents based on proline or betaine and lactic acid for the extraction of metabolites from H. physodes. The design of the experimental method and the response surface approach allowed the optimization of the extraction process of specific lichen metabolites. Based on preliminary research, a multivariate model of the experiment was developed. For optimization, the following parameters were employed in the experiment to confirm the model: a proline/lactic acid/water molar ratio of 1:2:2. Such a mixture allowed the efficient extraction of three depsidones (i.e., physodic acid, physodalic acid, 3-hydroyphysodic acid) and one depside (i.e., atranorin). Background: Bawei Chenxiang Wan (BCW) is among the most effective and widely used therapies for coronary heart disease and angina pectoris in Tibet. However, whether it confers protection through a right-ventricle (RV) myocardial metabolic mechanism is unknown. Methods: Male Sprague–Dawley rats were orally administrated with BCW, which was injected concurrently with a bolus of Sugen5416, and subjected to hypoxia exposure (SuHx; 5000 m altitude) for 4 weeks. Right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH) in high-altitude heart disease (HAHD) was assessed using Fulton's index (FI; ratio of RV to left ventricle + septum weights) and heart-weight-to-body-weight ratio (HW/BW). The effect of therapeutic administration of BCW on the RVH hemodynamics was assessed through catheterization (mean right ventricular pressure and mean pulmonary artery pressure (mRVP and mPAP, respectively)). Tissue samples were used to perform histological staining, and confirmatory analyses of mRNA and protein levels were conducted to detect alterations in the mechanisms of RVH in HAHD. The protective mechanism of BCW was further verified via cell culture. Results: BCW considerably reduced SuHx-associated RVH, as indicated by macro morphology, HW/BW ratio, FI, mPAP, mRVP, hypertrophy markers, heart function, pathological structure, and myocardial enzymes. Moreover, BCW can alleviate the disorder of glucose and fatty acid metabolism through upregulation of carnitine palmitoyltransferase1ɑ, citrate synthase, and acetyl-CoA and downregulation of glucose transport-4, phosphofructokinase, and pyruvate, which resulted in the reduced levels of free fatty acid and lactic acid and increased aerobic oxidation. This process may be mediated via the regulation of sirtuin 3 (SIRT3)-hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α)-pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK)/pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) signaling pathway. Subsequently, the inhibition of SIRT3 expression by 3-TYP (a selective inhibitor of SIRT3) can reverse substantially the anti-RVH effect of BCW in HAHD, as indicated by hypertrophy marker and serum myocardial enzyme levels. Conclusions: BCW prevented SuHx-induced RVH in HAHD via the SIRT3-HIF1ɑ-PDK/PDH signaling pathway to alleviate the disturbance in fatty acid and glucose metabolism. Lactic acid production through fermentation is an established technology, however, improvements are necessary to reduce the process costs and to decrease its market price. Lactic acid is used in many industrial sectors and its market has increased in the last decade for its use as the raw material for polylactic acid product. Using food waste as a cheap and renewable substrate, as well as fermentation at uncontrolled pH, helps to make the production cheaper and to simplify the downstream purification process. Lactic acid production at acidic conditions and the role of varying organic loading rate (OLR) and hydraulic retention time (HRT) were tested in two different semicontinuous batch fermentation systems. Reactor performances indicated that lactic acid fermentation was still possible at pH < 3.5 and even up to a pH of 2.95. The highest lactic acid production was recorded at 14-day HRT, 2.14 g VS/L·day OLR, and pH 3.11 with a maximum lactic acid concentration of 8.72 g/L and a relative yield of 0.82 g lactate/g carbohydrates. The fermentation microbial community was dominated by Lactobacillus strains, the organism mainly responsible for lactic acid conversion from carbohydrates. This study shows that low pH fermentation is a key parameter to improve lactic acid production from food waste in a semicontinuous system. Acidic pH favored both the selection of Lactobacillus strains and inhibited VFA producers from utilizing lactic acid as primary substrate, thus promoting the accumulation of lactic acid. Based on previous studies on lactic acid (LA) production from food waste (FW, "cooked" waste from canteens and restaurants), the present study explored the feasibility of LA production from kitchen garbage (KG, "raw" waste from household kitchens). A considerable pretreatment method for fermentable sugar release in KG was investigated, and acid pretreatment was found to significantly promote polysaccharide hydrolysis. Furthermore, the optimal conditions of acid pretreatment were investigated through response surface methodology and determined to be 1.45% (w/v) sulfuric acid, 118.14 °C and 0.66 h, respectively, resulting in a polysaccharide conversion rate of 72.88%. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction revealed that the hemicellulose and lignin of KG were dissolved, which increased polysaccharide conversion in KG during acid pretreatment. Enterococcus mundtii was used in LA fermentation because it could metabolize a variety of fermentable sugars, including glucose, xylose, and fructose. Finally, the feasibility of LA production from KG hydrolysate with acid pretreatment was explored, and the maximum LA concentration and yield reached 60.3 g/L and 0.83 g/g total sugar, and 0.31 g/g KG (dry weight), respectively, which were 11% higher than those without acid pretreatment. Objective: It is well-known that lncRNAs regulate energy metabolism in tumors. This study focused on the action of RMRP on esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cell proliferation, apoptosis, and glycolysis. Methods: In the resected ESCC tissues and adjacent tissues from patients, RMRP/miR-580-3p/ATP13A3 expressions were evaluated. ESCC cell proliferation rates and apoptotic rates were measured by CCK-8 and flow cytometry, respectively. Apoptosis related markers were examined by Western blot. Moreover, glucose uptake, lactic acid, and ATP were measured by commercial kits, whereas HK2 and PKM2 were evaluated by Western blot to study ESCC cell glycolysis. Finally, the editing program of RMRP/miR-580-3p/ATP13A3 was translated by luciferase reporter assay and RIP analysis. Results: RMRP and ATP13A3 were induced, while miR-580-3p was reduced in their expression in ESCC tissues. Silencing RMRP reduced proliferation, glycolysis, and anti-apoptosis ability of ESCC cells. RMRP sequestered miR-580-3p to target ATP13A3. Silenced ATP13A3 or overexpressed miR-580-3p rescued overexpressed RMRP-mediated promotion of proliferation, glycolysis, and anti-apoptosis of ESCC cells. Background: Lignocellulosic biomass as feedstock has a huge potential for biochemical production. Still, efficient utilization of hydrolysates derived from lignocellulose is challenged by their complex and heterogeneous composition and the presence of inhibitory compounds, such as furan aldehydes. Using microbial consortia where two specialized microbes complement each other could serve as a potential approach to improve the efficiency of lignocellulosic biomass upgrading. Results: This study describes the simultaneous inhibitor detoxification and production of lactic acid and wax esters from a synthetic lignocellulosic hydrolysate by a defined coculture of engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Acinetobacter baylyi ADP1. A. baylyi ADP1 showed efficient bioconversion of furan aldehydes present in the hydrolysate, namely furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, and did not compete for substrates with S. cerevisiae, highlighting its potential as a coculture partner. Furthermore, the remaining carbon sources and byproducts of S. cerevisiae were directed to wax ester production by A. baylyi ADP1. The lactic acid productivity of S. cerevisiae was improved approximately 1.5-fold (to 0.41 ± 0.08 g/L/h) in the coculture with A. baylyi ADP1, compared to a monoculture of S. cerevisiae. Conclusion: The coculture of yeast and bacterium was shown to improve the consumption of lignocellulosic substrates and the productivity of lactic acid from a synthetic lignocellulosic hydrolysate. The high detoxification capacity and the ability to produce high-value products by A. baylyi ADP1 demonstrates the strain to be a potential candidate for coculture to increase production efficiency and economics of S. cerevisiae fermentations. Highly robust Zr-based MOF-808, featuring Lewis acid Zr sites and coordinate hydroxide ions upon the removal of the monocarboxylate capping reagent, emerges as an efficient catalyst for the hydrothermal conversion of glucose into lactic acid. A remarkable 99% glucose conversion with an impressive 76.6% yield of lactic acid can be achieved. The large pore window of MOF-808 facilitates the diffusion of glucose to the active sites within the framework. The single-site attribute of the catalytic center enables a high selectivity of lactic acid over the competitive product, 5-(hydroxymethyl)furfural, under hydrothermal reaction conditions. This study investigated the solubility of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) in various solvents (to achieve an 8 % (w/v) polymer solution) and its impact on the morphology of electrospun PLA nanofibers. Several solvents, such as dichloromethane (DCM), chloroform (CHL), tetrahydrofuran (THF), acetone (AC), acetonitrile (ACTNR), dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethylacetamide (DMAc), ethylene glycol (ETGLY), distilled water (WATER), methanol (MEOH), formic acid (FA), and n‐hexane (NHX) were used in their pure and binary forms at several ratios (4 : 1, 2 : 1, 1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 3, and 1 : 4). The study aims to explore the correlation between PLA solubility and its electrospinnability using solvents mapped from the Teas graph across different parameter zones and chemical groups. Hansen solubility parameters, including dispersion cohesion fractional solubility parameter (fd), the polar cohesion fractional solubility parameter (fp) was employed to identify the most effective solvents for PLA dissolution. Teas graph analysis highlighted a correlation between PLA solubility and solvent proximity to Hansen solubility parameters. Additionally, the solubility time varied between 1 hour and 24 hours. Polar solvents such as DCM, CHL, THF, ACTNR, and FA were able to dissolve 8 % (w/v) of PLA at different times, but only very high and effective dissolution of PLA was achieved in pure DCM and CHL whereas FA dissolved PLA in 24 hours, which resulted in the slowest solubility rate. Several structures of nanofibers, such as smooth, heterogenous, porous, fibrous, and beaded, were observed and discussed accordingly in terms of solvent type and ratio. The average nanofiber diameter ranged between 0.18 μm and 3.81 μm. Moreover, physical tests, including surface tension, density, viscosity, and conductivity, were conducted on solvent systems and CHL displayed higher viscosity, while ACTNR had the lowest viscosity and highest conductivity among pure solvents. According to the results of our study, it is possible to design further studies with the aim of deciding which solvents or binary forms should be applied to dissolve PLA within a certain time. This study aims to integrate a novel bio-purification process employing an engineered E. coli strain in the downstream processing of lactic acid (LA) fermentation broths from low-cost renewable biological feedstocks. Fermentation broth of candy waste and digestate mixture was used as a real biological feedstock. An engineered E. coli strain that selectively catabolize impurities without catabolizing LA was initially adapted on the biological feedstock, followed by shake flask experiments to prove the bio-purification concept. Scale-up and validation in a bench-scale bioreactor followed, before developing a semi-continuous membrane bioreactor (MBR) bio-purification process. The MBR bio-purification was assessed with biological feedstocks which simulated ultrafiltration or nanofiltration permeates. Incomplete removal of impurities and increased fouling was observed in the case of the ultrafiltration permeate. Contrarily, the nanofiltration permeate was successfully treated with MBR bio-purification, since low membrane fouling, 100% maltose and acetic acid removal, and no LA catabolism was achieved. Within the initial minutes of square-wave exercise transitions above the moderate-intensity domain, the reliance on the anaerobic energy sources may induce some levels of metabolic instability; however, no study has attempted to limit metabolic instability at exercise onset by manipulating the exercise transition phase to a target work rate (WR). Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether a ramp-to-constant WR (rCWR) transition compared with a square-wave-to-constant WR (CWR) transition within the heavy-intensity domain can reduce metabolic instability and decrease the oxygen cost of exercise. Methods: Fourteen individuals performed (i) a ramp-incremental test to task failure, (ii) a 21-min CWR within the heavy-intensity domain, and (iii) an rCWR to the same WR. Oxygen uptake (...O2), lactate concentration ([La-]), and muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) were measured. ...O2 and ...O2 gain (...O2-G) during the first 10-min steady-state ...O2 were analyzed. [La-] before, at, and after steady-state ...O2 and SmO2 during the entire 21-min steady-state exercise were also examined. Results: ...O2 and ...O2-G during rCWR (2.49 ± 0.58 L⋅min-1 and 10.7 ± 0.2 mL⋅min-1⋅W-1, respectively) were lower (P < 0.001) than CWR (2.57 ± 0.60 L⋅min-1 and 11.3 ± 0.2 mL⋅min-1⋅W-1, respectively). [La-] before and at steady-state ...O2 during the rCWR condition (1.94 ± 0.60 and 3.52 ± 1.19 mM, respectively) was lower than the CWR condition (3.05 ± 0.82 and 4.15 ± 1.25 mM, respectively) (P <0.001). Introduction: Lactic acid is well studied in the trauma population and is frequently used as a laboratory indicator that correlates with resuscitation status and has thus been associated with patient outcomes. There is limited literature that assesses the association of initial lactic acid with post-operative morbidity and hospitalization costs in the orthopedic literature. The purpose of this study was to assess the association of lactic acid levels and alcohol levels post-operative morbidity, length of stay and admission costs in a cohort of operative lower extremity long bone fractures, and to compare these effects in the ballistic and blunt trauma sub-population. Methods: Patients presenting as trauma activations who underwent tibial and/or femoral fixation at a single institution from May 2018 to August 2020 were divided based on initial lactate level into normal, (< 2.5) intermediate (2.5–4.0), and high (> 4.0). Mechanism of trauma (blunt vs. ballistic) was also stratified for analysis. Data on other injuries, surgical timing, level of care, direct hospitalization costs, length of stay, and discharge disposition were collected from the electronic medical record. The primary outcome assessed was post-operative morbidity defined as in-hospital mortality or unanticipated escalation of care. Secondary outcomes included hospital costs, lengths of stay, and discharge disposition. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and multivariate regression. Results: A total of 401 patients met inclusions criteria. Average age was 34.1 ± 13.0 years old, with patients remaining hospitalized for 8.8 ± 9.5 days, and 35.2% requiring ICU care during their hospitalization. Patients in the ballistic cohort were younger, had fewer other injuries and had higher lactate levels (4.0 ± 2.4) than in the blunt trauma cohort (3.4 ± 1.9) (p = 0.004). On multivariate regression, higher lactate was associated with post-operative morbidity (p = 0.015), as was age (p < 0.001) and BMI (p = 0.033). ISS, ballistic versus blunt injury mechanism, and other included laboratory markers were not. Lactate was also associated with longer lengths of stay, and higher associated direct hospitalization cost (p < 0.001) and lower rates of home disposition (p = 0.008). Conclusion: High initial lactate levels are independently associated with post-operative morbidity as well as higher direct hospitalization costs and longer lengths of stay in orthopedic trauma patients who underwent fixation for fractures of the lower extremity long bones. Ballistic trauma patients had significantly higher lactate levels compared to the blunt cohort, and lactate was not independently associated with increased rates of post-operative morbidity in the ballistic cohort alone. Microbial CO 2 fixation into lactic acid (LA) is an important approach for low-carbon biomanufacturing. Engineering microbes to utilize CO 2 and sugar as co-substrates can create efficient pathways through input of moderate reducing power to drive CO 2 fixation into product. However, to achieve complete conservation of organic carbon, how to engineer the CO 2 -fixing modules compatible with native central metabolism and merge the processes for improving bioproduction of LA is a big challenge. In this study, we designed and constructed a solar formic acid/pentose (SFAP) pathway in Escherichia coli , which enabled CO 2 fixation merging into sugar catabolism to produce LA. In the SFAP pathway, adequate reducing equivalents from formate oxidation drive glucose metabolism shifting from glycolysis to the pentose phosphate pathway. The Rubisco-based CO 2 fixation and sequential reduction of C3 intermediates are conducted to produce LA stoichiometrically. CO 2 fixation theoretically can bring a 20% increase of LA production compared with sole glucose feedstock. Xanthorrhizol, an important marker of Curcuma xanthorrhiza, has been recognized for its different pharmacological activities. A green strategy for selective xanthorrhizol extraction is required. Herein, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) based on glucose and organic acids (lactic acid, malic acid, and citric acid) were screened for the extraction of xanthorrhizol from Curcuma xanthorrhiza. Ultrasound-assisted extraction using glucose/lactic acid (1:3) (GluLA) gave the best yield of xanthorrhizol. The response surface methodology with a Box–Behnken Design was used to optimize the interacting variables of water content, solid-to-liquid (S/L) ratio, and extraction to optimize the extraction. The optimum conditions of 30% water content in GluLA, 1/15 g/mL (S/L), and a 20 min extraction time yielded selective xanthorrhizol extraction (17.62 mg/g) over curcuminoids (6.64 mg/g). This study indicates the protective effect of GluLA and GluLA extracts against oxidation-induced DNA damage, which was comparable with those obtained for ethanol extract. In addition, the stability of the xanthorrhizol extract over 90 days was revealed when stored at −20 and 4 °C. The FTIR and NMR spectra confirmed the hydrogen bond formation in GluLA. Zinc oxide (ZnO) was surface treated using argon plasma at 5 and 15 min, using maleic anhydride (MA) in solid state as the functionalizing agent. The samples were characterized by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The results indicate that ZnO surface modification occurs through two main routes: the decomposition of MA and the plasma‐induced formation of C–Zn bonds, with 15 min being the most favorable time span. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and ZnO were processed in an internal chamber mixer, which was coupled with a torque rheometer and characterized by the Melt Flow Index. The total anaerobic contribution (AC[La-]+PCr) is a valid and reliable methodology. However, the active muscle mass plays an important role in the AC[La-]+PCr determination, which might influence its reliability. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of two exhaustive intensities on the reliability of the AC[La-]+PCr during a one-legged knee extension (1L-KE) exercise. Thirteen physically active males were submitted to a graded exercise to determine the peak power output (PPO) in the 1L-KE. Then, two constant-load exercises were conducted to task failure at 100% (TTF100) and 110% (TTF110) of PPO, and the exercises were repeated on a third day. The blood lactate accumulation and the oxygen uptake after exercise were used to estimate the anaerobic lactic and alactic contributions, respectively. Higher values of AC[La-]+PCr were found after the TTF100 compared to TTF110 (p=0.042). In addition, no significant differences (p=0.432), low systematic error (80.9 mL), and a significant ICC (0.71; p=0.004) were found for AC[La-]+PCr in the TTF100. However, an elevated coefficient of variation was found (13.7%). In conclusion, we suggest the use of the exhaustive efforts performed at 100% of the PPO with the 1L-KE model, but its elevated individual variability must be carefully considered in future studies. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a non-protein amino acid which is widely applied in agriculture and pharmaceutical additive industries. GABA is synthesized from glutamate through irreversible α-decarboxylation by glutamate decarboxylase. Recently, microbial synthesis has become an inevitable trend to produce GABA due to its sustainable characteristics. Therefore, reasonable microbial platform design and metabolic engineering strategies for improving production of GABA are arousing a considerable attraction. The strategies concentrate on microbial platform optimization, fermentation process optimization, rational metabolic engineering as key metabolic pathway modification, promoter optimization, site-directed mutagenesis, modular transporter engineering, and dynamic switch systems application. In this review, the microbial producers for GABA were summarized, including lactic acid bacteria, Corynebacterium glutamicum, and Escherichia coli, as well as the efficient strategies for optimizing them to improve the production of GABA. The current study intended to analyze the impact of ethanol and lactic acid on the bacterial cellulose yield as well as physicochemical and mechanical properties, by using Gluconacetobacter kombuchae. The optimization of ethanol and lactic acid concentration has been done by using one-way ANOVA. Both the supplements significantly enhance the yield of bacterial cellulose (BC) as compared to the standard Hestrin–Schramm medium (control). Optimization leads to significant increase in BC yield as compared to the control, i.e., the addition, of optimized concentration of lactic acid (0.6%) increases the yield from (0.78 ± 0.026) g to (4.89 ± 0.020) g dry weight, and optimized concentration of ethanol (1%) increases the yield from (0.73 ± 0.057) g to (3.7 ± 0.01) g dry weight. Various physicochemical and mechanical properties of BC films produced in different media (i.e., HS, HS + Ethanol, and HS + Lactic acid), such as the crystallinity, structure, tensile strength, strain at break, Young's modulus, and water holding capacity, were also examined, by employing various techniques such as SEM, FTIR, XRD, etc. BC produced in medium supplemented with the optimum concentration of both the additives were found to possesses higher porosity. Though, slight decline in crystallinity was observed. But the tensile strength and strain at break, were upgraded 1.5–2.5 times, 2-2.5 times, respectively. For complete utilization of high glucose at ∼100 g/L, a high cell density (HCD) continuous fermentation system was established using Lb. delbrueckii NCIM 2025 for the bioproduction of lactic acid (LA). An integrated membrane cell recycling system coupled with the continuous bioreactor, aided to achieve the highest 34.77 g/L h LA productivity and 0.94−0.98 g/g yield. ∼34 times higher productivity was observed (in comparison to batch fermentation conducted in this study), when the continuous operations were carried out at the maximum dilution rate and wet cell weight i.e. 0.36 h−1 and 230 g/L, respectively. These results show the potential of this method for large-scale lactic acid production because it not only produces high titers but also ensures that glucose is used effectively. Heterogous expression of lignin peroxidase (LiP) from Phanerochaete chrysosporium was performed in by E. coli prokaryotic expression system, and pure LiP was prepared by washing, refolding, and purification. The enzyme activity was measured by the resveratrol oxidation method. The effects of different chemicals on LiP activity were explored by adding different kinds of metal ions, acids/phenols, and surfactants. The optimal pH and temperature are 4.2 and 40 °C. The single-factor screening experiment showed that adding 1 mM Mn2+, 0.1 mM DL-lactic acid, and 2% PEG-4000 had the best promotion effect on the enzyme activity of recombinant LiP, which was 160.61%, 188.46%, and 247.83%, respectively. Further, the synergistic addition of Mn2+ and PEG-4000 achieved the best enzyme activity promotion effect of 277.51%. In addition, the addition of DL-lactic acid alone could promote LiP activity. However, the co-addition of lactic acid with Mn2+ and PEG-4000 contributed only 247.87%, which indicated that the addition of DL-lactic acid had an inhibitory effect when applied synergistically. For the first time, it was found that PEG-4000 increased LiP enzyme activity obviously and had a synergistic effect with Mn2+, serving as a reference for LiP in studies and applications pertaining to lignin breakdown. This Carbon black nanoparticles (CBNPs), a common and important manufacturing material, have been proven to exert adverse effects on brain function; however, the underlying neurotoxicity remains poorly understood. To unravel the deteriorating effect of CBNPs on the brain, a chronic long-term carbon black exposure mouse model (0, 0.15 mg/ml, 0.5 mg/ml, 1.5 mg/ml groups) was established via nasal injection of CBNPs for 3 months. Intriguingly, the evidence directly showed the penetration of CBNPs in the brain, as the electron microscopic data showed an obvious deposition of CBNPs in various brain regions, where the mitochondrion displayed significant destruction. The metabolite changes based on GC/MS metabolic analysis displayed striking differences after CBNP exposure. With principal component analysis and the PLS-DA model, the brain metabolites of the control group and the treatment group were significantly distinguished, and these changes were involved in phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis, D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism and linoleic acid metabolism. In detail, glutamine, glycine, lactic acid and norepinephrine, the excitotoxic metabolites, were markedly increased. Thymus daenensis Celak. (T. daenensis) essential oil (TDO) was encapsulated into beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) by co-precipitation method and incorporated into polylactic acid (PLA) films along with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to generate the active PLA film for extending the ground beef shelf life at 4 °C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the proper dispersion of AgNPs, TDO, and β-CD/TDO throughout the PLA films. Different physical properties were observed in the active PLA films, so that the addition of β-CD/TDO in the films increased the thickness and decreased the tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break compared to TDO films. The color of the AgNP films was lightly darker than the others. The microbial evaluation of the packaged ground beef samples with active PLA films indicated that accompanying AgNPs with β-CD/TDO and TDO could synergistically inhibit total viable bacteria counts, psychrotrophic bacteria counts, and Enterobacteriaceae counts during the sample's storage for 12 days. This effectiveness was also observed in controlling changes in pH and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) in the samples. Considering the efficient entrapment of TDO in β-CD, the shelf life of samples was significantly extended, due to sustained and long-lasting release of the essential oil compounds, compared to the net TDO films. Ethyl lactate is the most abundant ester in semi-solid rice baijiu fermentation, affecting the flavor of baijiu to a great extent. The present study aimed to investigate the spatial distribution and formation contributor of ethyl lactate by removing the microorganisms and extracellular enzymes from the upper, middle, and lower fermentation broth during the later fermentation stage. The removal of suspended substances by centrifugation did not affect the ethyl lactate content in the top and middle fermentation broth containing free cells, enzymes, and starch particles. After day 5 of fermentation, only the lower fermentation broth containing granular cells attached to the starch could continue to accumulate lactic acid, thereby increasing the ethyl lactate content. The results showed that the chemical reactions were the main contributor to the increased ethyl lactate content at the anaphase of fermentation rather than enzymatic catalysis or microbial metabolism. Sequencing of granular cells revealed the main lactic acid producers at different fermentation stages. Lactobacillus helveticus showed the highest abundance of 94.45–95.40% on day 5, which decreased to 29.58–30.20% on day 15, while Lactobacillus acetotolerans showed the highest abundance of 47.93–49.72% at day 15. Additionally, the granular cells were recovered and used for supplementary inoculation in the next batch, which significantly increased the ethyl lactate content. Solid-state fermentation is widely used in traditional food production, but most of the complex processes involved were designed and are carried out without a scientific basis. Often, mathematical models can be established to describe mass and heat transfer with the assistance of chemical engineering tools. However, due to the complex nature of solid-state fermentation, mathematical models alone cannot explain the many dynamic changes that occur during these processes. For example, it is hard to identify the most important variables influencing product yield and quality fluctuations. Here, using solid-state fermentation of Chinese liquor as a case study, we established statistical models to correlate the final liquor yield with available industrial data, including the starting content of starch, water and acid; starting temperature; and substrate temperature profiles throughout the process. Models based on starting concentrations and temperature profiles gave unsatisfactory yield predictions. Although the most obvious factor is the starting month, ambient temperature is unlikely to be the direct driver of differences. A lactic-acid-inhibition model indicates that lactic acid from lactic acid bacteria is likely the reason for the reduction in yield between April and December. Further integrated study strategies are necessary to confirm the most crucial variables from both microbiological and engineering perspectives. This research aimed to produce thermochromic composite filaments by utilizing poly(lactic acid) (PLA) as a matrix and two distinct thermochromic additives (red and yellow colors). To produce thermochromic composite filaments with ratios ranging from 10 to 40 phr, different quantities of a thermochromic masterbatch were integrated into the PLA matrix through an extrusion process. The physical, mechanical, thermal properties, and thermochromic behavior of the composite filaments were further examined. The results indicated that the thermochromic additives had minimal impact on thermal and mechanical properties, while also revealing a two‐phase separation between the smooth matrix and the spherical particle additives in the thermochromic composite filaments. Moreover, the analysis of thermochromic behavior revealed that an increase in the ratio of thermochromic masterbatches led to more pronounced coloration and clearer color changes, especially with red and yellow thermochromics indicating temperature variations below 22°C and over 65°C, respectively. The sample containing 40 phr exhibited the most intense color and noticeable color change. Furthermore, these thermochromic composite filaments can be utilized to 3D print various prototype products. Postburn hypermetabolism remains an important clinical problem. During this phase, there is a significant loss of diaphragmatic proteins. Better understanding of respiratory muscle dynamics and potential mechanisms affecting respiratory muscle function is necessary for the development of effective therapeutic approaches. Male Wistar rats were subjected to 50% TBSA burns and sham injuries, and respiratory muscle function was assessed with 0, 1, 4, 7, and 14 days postinjury, including pulmonary function, blood gas analysis, transdiaphragmatic pressure, diaphragm ultrasonography, isolated diaphragm contractility, fatigue index, protein oxidative stress content, and ATP levels. Burned rats had significantly reduced inspiratory time, expiratory time, and tidal volume and significantly increased respiratory rate and minute ventilation. At the same time, the isolated diaphragm contractility, specific force during fatigue, and fatigue index were significantly decreased in the burned rats. Pdi, Pdimax, diaphragm thickness, diaphragm thickening fraction, and diaphragm excursion also decreased significantly postburn, whereas the Pdi/Pdimax ratio increased significantly. Finally, the content of protein carbonyls and lactic acid of burned rats was increased, and ATP levels of burned rats were decreased. The present study demonstrates the dynamic changes in diaphragm contractile properties postburn from both in vivo and in vitro perspectives, while cursorily exploring the possibility that protein oxidative stress and reduced ATP production may be the cause of diaphragm dysfunction. Developing double porous biodegradable and biocompatible scaffolds that can incorporate and release drugs in a controlled manner holds immense potential in regenerative medicine. This study presents a synthesis method for preparing a macro-mesoporous scaffold, where poly(lactic acid) adds to the macroporous region and mechanical properties, and ethyl cellulose adds to the surface area (182 m2/g). High surface area enables the incorporation of model drug indomethacin with an entrapment efficiency of 17.0% and its later controlled release profile. The resulting scaffold has desirable mechanical properties in the range of a natural trabecular bone with a compressive modulus of 22.4 MPa. The material is stable in the simulated body fluids for 120 days before the slow degradation starts. In vitro studies demonstrate the material's ability to support bone cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, promoting osteogenic activity. Overall, the unique combination of poly(lactic acid) and ethyl cellulose produces advanced materials with tailored macro and mesopore properties, remarkable mechanical properties, optimal degradation rate, and drug delivery potential, making it a promising candidate for bone scaffolds in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. Utilizing sustainable electrocatalysis to upcycle glycerol (GLY; the by‐product of biodiesel) to lactic acid (LA; the key monomers for biodegradable polymer) is an efficient way to reduce the cost of biodiesel, which is also consistent with the waste‐to‐wealth principle. However, current research still suffers from issues of low LA selectivity (<80%), especially at high current density. Herein, we designed a cooperative catalyst by modifying BiOx nanolayers on gold nanoparticles (BiOx/Au), achieving high LA selectivity (82%) at high current density (226 mA cm−2 at 1.05 V vs. RHE), outperforming most of the reported works in the literature. We reveal that BiOx could promote the adsorption of the middle hydroxyl of GLY, which facilitates the formation of DHA and thus enables high LA selectivity. Moreover, the electron‐deficient Au in BiOx/Au is responsible for the enhanced current density, which is more beneficial to generate reactive oxygen species (OH*). To further reveal the application potential of this electrocatalytic strategy, we realized that the conversion of crude GLY extracted from cooking oil to LA coupled with H2 production using a membrane‐free flow electrolyzer, demonstrating a sustainable fashion to convert biodiesel waste into high value‐added product and H2 fuel. Intracellular communications between breast cancer and fibroblast cells were reported to be involved in cancer proliferation, growth, and therapy resistance. The hallmarks of cancer-fibroblast interactions, consisting of caveolin 1 (Cav1) and mono-carboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4) (metabolic coupling markers), along with IL-6, TGFβ, and lactate secretion, are considered robust biomarkers predicting recurrence and metastasis. In order to promote a novel phenotype in normal fibroblasts, we predicted that breast cancer cells could be able to cause loss of Cav1 and increase of MCT4, as well as elevate IL-6 and TGFβ in nearby normal fibroblasts. We created a co-culture model using breast cancer (4T1) and normal fibroblast (NIH3T3) cell lines cultured under specific experimental conditions in order to directly test our theory. Moreover, we show that long-term co-culture of breast cancer cells and normal fibroblasts promotes loss of Cav1 and gain of MCT4 in adjacent fibroblasts and increase lactate secretion. These results were validated using the monoculture of each group separately as a control. In this system, we show that metformin inhibits IL-6 and TGFβ secretion and re-expresses Cav1 in both cells. However, MCT4 and lactate stayed high after treatment with metformin. In conclusion, our work shows that co-culture with breast cancer cells may cause significant alterations in the phenotype and secretion of normal fibroblasts. Metformin, however, may change this state and affect fibroblasts' acquired phenotypes. Background: The cancer microbiota was considered the main risk factor for cancer progression. We had proved that Fusobacterium periodonticum (F.p) was higher abundance in Esophageal cancer(EC)tissues. Bioinformation analysis found that BCT was a key virulence protein of F.p. However, little is known about the role and mechanism of BCT in EC. This study aimed to recognize the key virulence protein of F.p and explore the mechanism of BCT in promoting EC. Methods: We constructed a eukaryotic expression vector and purified the recombinant protein BCT. CCK8 used to analyzed the activity of EC after treated by different concentration of BCT. UPLC-MS/MS and ELISA used to detect the metabonomics and metabolites. The ability of migration and invasion was completed by transwell assay. RT-QPCR, WB used to analyze the expression of relevant genes. Results: Our data showed that BCT was higher expression in EC tumor tissues (p < 0.05) and BCT in 20 µg/mL promoted the survival, invasion and migration of EC cells (EC109) (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, UPLC-MS/MS results suggested that BCT resulted in an augmentation of hypotaurine metabolism, arachidonic acid metabolism, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, tryptophan metabolism, citrate cycle activity in EC109. The metabolic changes resulted in decreasing in glucose and pyruvate levels but increase in lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity and lactic acid (LA) as well as the expression of glucose transporter 1, Hexokinase 2, LDH which regulated the glycolysis were all changed (p < 0.05). The BCT treatment upregulated the expression of TLR4, Akt, HIF-1α (p < 0.05) which regulated the production of LA. Furthermore, LA stimulation promoted the expression of GPR81, Wnt, and β-catenin (p < 0.05), thereby inducing EMT and metastasis in EC109 cells. Conclusion: Altogether, these findings identified that impact of BCT in regulation of glycolysis in EC109 and its involves the TLR4/Akt/HIF-1α pathway. Meanwhile, glycolysis increasing the release of LA and promote the EMT of EC109 by GPR81/Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality rate that seriously threatens human health. We aimed to investigate the expression, prognostic value, and immune cell infiltration of lactic acid metabolism-related genes (LAMRGs) in HCC using bioinformatics. Methods: The HCC database (The Cancer Genome Atlas-Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma) was downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between normal and tumor groups were identified. The LAMRGs were obtained from literature and GeneCards and MSigDB databases. Lactic acid metabolism-related differentially expressed genes (LAMRDEGs) in HCC were screened from the DEGs and LAMRGs. Functional enrichment analyses of the screened LAMRDEGs were further conducted using Gene Ontology (GO) analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA). The genes were used in multivariate Cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analyses to construct a prognostic model. Then, a protein-protein interaction network was constructed using STRING and CTD databases. Furthermore, the CIBERSORTx online database was used to assess the relationship between immune cell infiltration and hub genes. Results: Twenty-eight lactic acid metabolism-related differentially expressed genes (LAMRDEGs) were identified. The GO and KEGG analyses showed that the LAMRDEGs were related to the prognosis of HCC. The GSEA indicated that the LAMRDEGs were significantly enriched in tumor related pathways. In the multivariate Cox regression analysis, 14 key genes (E2F1, SERPINE1, GYS2, SPP1, PCK1, CCNB1, CYP2C9, IGFBP3, KDM8, RCAN1, ALPL, FBP1, NQO1, and LCAT) were found to be independent prognostic factors of HCC. Finally, the LASSO and Cox regression analyses showed that six key genes (SERPINE1, SPP1, CCNB1, CYP2C9, NQO1, and LCAT) were associated with HCC prognosis. Moreover, the correlation analyses revealed that the expression of the six key genes were associated with immune infiltrates of HCC. Conclusion: The LAMRDEGs can predict the prognosis and may be associated with immune cells infiltration in patients with HCC. To enhance the yield of the one-step synthesis of terpinyl acetate from α-pinene and acetic acid, this study evaluated α-hydroxycarboxylic acid (HCA)–boric acid composite catalysts based on orthogonal experimental design. The most important factor affecting the terpinyl acetate content in the product was the HCA content. The catalytic performance of the composite catalyst was related to the pKa1 of HCA. The tartaric acid–boric acid composite catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity. The α-pinene conversion reached 91.8%, and the terpinyl acetate selectivity reached 45.6%. When boric acid was replaced with B2O3, the HCA composite catalyst activity was enhanced, which reduced the use of HCA. When the lactic acid and B2O3 content accounted for 10% and 4% of the α-pinene mass content, respectively, the α-pinene conversion reached 93.2%, and the terpinyl acetate selectivity reached up to 47.1%. In addition, the presence of water was unfavorable to HCA–boric acid composite catalyst. However, a water content less than 1% of the α-pinene mass content improved the catalytic activity of HCA–B2O3. When the tartaric acid–B2O3 was used as catalyst, and the water content was 1% of the α-pinene mass content, the α-pinene conversion was 89.6%, and the terpinyl acetate selectivity was 47.5%. Induced resistance is considered an eco-friendly disease control strategy, which can enhance plant disease resistance by inducing the plant's immune system to activate the defense response. In recent years, studies have shown that lactic acid can play a role in plant defense against biological stress; however, whether lactic acid can improve tobacco resistance to Phytophthora nicotianae, and its molecular mechanism remains unclear. In our study, the mycelial growth and sporangium production of P. nicotianae were inhibited by lactic acid in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. Application of lactic acid could reduce the disease index, and the contents of total phenol, salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA), lignin and H2O2, catalase (CAT) and phenylalanine ammonia–lyase (PAL) activities were significantly increased. To explore this lactic acid-induced protective mechanism for tobacco disease resistance, RNA-Seq analysis was used. Lactic acid enhances tobacco disease resistance by activating Ca2+, reactive oxygen species (ROS) signal transduction, regulating antioxidant enzymes, SA, JA, abscisic acid (ABA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) signaling pathways, and up-regulating flavonoid biosynthesis-related genes. This study demonstrated that lactic acid might play a role in inducing resistance to tobacco black shank disease; the mechanism by which lactic acid induces disease resistance includes direct antifungal activity and inducing the host to produce direct and primed defenses. Natural vitamin E was extracted from crude palm oil and palm fatty acid distillate, both of which were converted into biodiesel before the extraction process. To enhance the stability of vitamin E, the study investigated the formation of inclusion complexes between vitamin E and β-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin. The results demonstrated improved thermal and light stabilities, prolonging the shelf life at room temperature while maintaining the antioxidant activity of vitamin E. Furthermore, the study successfully applied these complexes to poly(lactic acid) (PLA) fabrics, a biodegradable natural polymer, without altering their appearance. The current study focuses on the development of innovative bio‐based filaments using new natural lignocellulosic particles obtained from the bark of the Morinda citrifolia L. plant as reinforcement. Polylactic acid (PLA 4043D) filaments with a diameter of 1.75 mm were produced by varying the volume fraction of M. citrifolia bark particles (MCBP) in three compositions (i.e., 0%, 3%, and 6%). These filaments were then used to print test specimens, which underwent quasi‐static mechanical tests (i.e., tensile and flexural; thermal characterization, thermo‐mechanical tests, and visco‐elastic analysis). The experimental findings demonstrated a remarkable improvement in the tensile strength (i.e., +15%) when the PLA was reinforced with 6% in volume of lignocellulosic particles. Additionally, 3% MCBP and 6% MCBP composites showed substantial increases in flexural strength and modulus (i.e., +25% and +34%), respectively; in comparison to the neat matrix. Moreover, the 3D‐printed composites exhibited significant enhancements in storage modulus, glass transition temperature, and structural stability at elevated temperatures. Probiotic-fermented supplements (postbiotics) are becoming increasingly explored for their activity against antibiotic-resistant enteropathogens. Prebiotics are often incorporated into postbiotics to enhance their efficacy, but due to strain differences in probiotic activity, postbiotic antimicrobial effects are poorly understood. To improve postbiotic antimicrobial efficacy, we investigated and compared metabolite profiles of postbiotics prepared with three lactic acid bacteria strains (L. fermentum, L. paracasei, and L. rhamnosus) cultured with and without rice bran, a globally abundant, rich source of prebiotics. At their minimum inhibitory dose, L. fermentum and L. paracasei postbiotics + rice bran suppressed S. Typhimurium growth 42-55% more versus their respective probiotic-alone postbiotics. The global, non-targeted metabolome of these postbiotics identified 109 metabolites increased in L. fermentum and L. paracasei rice bran postbiotics, including 49 amino acids, 20 lipids, and 12 phytochemicals metabolites. To identify key metabolite contributors to postbiotic antimicrobial activity, bioactivity-guided fractionation was applied to L. fermentum and L. paracasei rice bran-fermented postbiotics. Fractionation resulted in four L. fermentum and seven L. paracasei fractions capable of suppressing S. Typhimurium growth more effectively versus the negative control. These fractions were enriched in 15 metabolites that were significantly increased in the global metabolome of postbiotics prepared with rice bran versus postbiotic alone. These metabolites included imidazole propionate (enriched in L. fermentum + rice bran, 1.61-fold increase; L. paracasei + rice bran 1.28-fold increase), dihydroferulate (L. fermentum + rice bran, 5.18-fold increase), and linoleate (L. fermentum + rice bran, 1.82-fold increase; L. paracasei + rice bran, 3.19-fold increase), suggesting that they may be key metabolite drivers of S. Typhimurium growth suppression. Here, we show distinct mechanisms by which postbiotics prepared with lactic acid bacteria and rice bran produce metabolites with antimicrobial activity capable of suppressing S. Typhimurium growth. Mulberry has high crude protein and biologically active compounds but is difficult to be ensiled due to the lack of adequate epiphytic LAB. This study aimed to investigate the effects of inoculation with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus isolated from mulberry with higher antioxidant capacity alone or in combination with Streptococcus bovis on chemical characteristics, antioxidant capacity, bacterial community, and metabolite composition of mulberry silage. The results showed that all inoculation groups had higher dry matter and lower pH than the control group, particularly in LP (dry matter, DM, 32.03% and pH = 4.44) and LP_PP_SB (DM, 31.68% and pH = 4.26) after 60 days of ensiling. Ammonia nitrogen (AN) content was the lowest in both LP_SB and LP_PP_SB groups, which were 1.86 g/kg FM and 1.05 g/kg FM, respectively, (P < 0.05). Only the LP_PP_SB group showed increased polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA, 1.2851 g/kg DM, P < 0.05) than the control group. Ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) values were increased in all inoculation-treated groups compared with the control group (P < 0.05). 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DDPH), 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), and FRAP exhibited the highest levels in the LP_PP- and LP_PP_SB-treated groups. Enterobacter was dominant in both the control and SB-treated groups, and the relative abundance was 41.18% and 32.35%, respectively (P < 0.05). The relative abundance of Lactiplantibacillus was higher in the LP-, LP_PP-, and LP_SB-treated groups (81.84%-82.69%). Relative abundance of Pediococcus was higher in the PP-, PP_SB-, and LP_PP_SB-treated groups (74.27%-85.27%). Untargeted metabolomics analysis results showed that five flavonoids (apigenin, eriodictyol, quercetin-3-glucoside, rutin, and kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside)were upregulated in all inoculation groups (except for the SB-treated groups). Among them, eriodictyol was both positively correlated with ABTS and FRAP and also showed the highest relative abundance in the LP_PP- and LP_PP_SB-treated groups. To the best of our knowledge, this study was the first to investigate the relationship between inoculants of epiphytic lactic acid bacteria and antioxidant capacity by 16s rRNA Illumina sequencing technology and untargeted metabolomics analysis, respectively. Consequently, inoculated L. plantarum, P. pentosaceus alone, respectively, or in combination with S. bovis increased the relative abundance of Lactiplantibacillus and Pediococcus and decreased the relative abundance of Enterobacter, particularly in the LP_PP_SB-treated group. In addition, inoculants could increase the relative abundance of five flavonoids (apigenin, eriodictyol, quercetin-3-glucoside, rutin, and kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside), especially eriodictyol to improve the antioxidant capacity of mulberry silage. Background: There are a lot of studies on the treatment of tumors with hyperbaric oxygen, while most of them are in breast cancer, prostate cancer and so on. However, there are still few studies on hyperbaric oxygen in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). According to the current data, hyperbaric oxygen is an effective means to intervene in tumors. The Warburg effect is a unique marker of glucose metabolism in tumors related to hypoxia, making it possible for hyperbaric oxygen to interfere with the tumor through the Warburg effect. Method: We used the hypoxia/hyperbaric oxygen(HBO)-exposed HCC cells for in vitro studies. Glucose uptake, lactic acid, and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) assessed the Warburg effect. The expression of miR-103a-3p in HCC was detected by using qRT-PCR. The effect of miR-103a-3p/TRIM35 expression level on the cells was measured using the CCK8 method and flow cytometry. The molecular biological mechanism of miR-103a-3p in HCC was examined using the luciferase reporter, MS2-RIP assays. Result: HBO inhibited the Warburg effect in hypoxic HCC cells. HBO suppressed the expression of miR-103a-3p in hypoxic HCC cells, and miR-103a-3p inhibited the expression of TRIM35 in hypoxic HCC cells. With HBO exposure, miR-103a-3p/TRIM35 regulated the Warburg effect of hypoxic HCC cells. Carboxylic acids can be isolated from fermentation broths using reactive liquid-liquid extraction, offering an alternative to the environmentally harmful state-of-the-art process of precipitating calcium lactate. To enhance the sustainability of liquid-liquid extraction processes, greener solvents, such as natural deep eutectic solvents, are investigated. However, fermentation broths often exhibit pH values unsuitable for carboxylic acid extraction, which can be adjusted using mineral acids, though mineral acids may be co-extracted. In this study, we systematically examine the co-extraction of hydrochloric, nitric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acid during extraction and back-extraction of lactic acid. The solvent phase consisted of tri-n-octylamine, trioctylphosphine oxide, or tributyl phosphate diluted in a thymol-menthol deep eutectic solvent. The back-extraction was conducted using a diluent swing with p-cymene as the antisolvent and water as the receiving phase. Tri-n-octylamine showed the highest efficiency for lactic acid (up to 29.8%) but also the highest co-extraction of mineral acids (up to 50.9%). In contrast, trioctylphosphine oxide exhibited a lower but more selective lactic acid extraction (5.94%) with low mineral acids co-extraction (0.135%). Overall, the highest co-extraction was observed for phosphoric acid and the lowest for nitric acid. In conclusion, the selected solvent phase composition and mineral acid influence the co-extraction and, thus, final product purity. Biodegradable blends based on plasticized poly(lactic acid) PLA and thermoplastic starch (TPS) have been obtained. The influence of the PLA plasticizer as a compatibility agent has been studied by using two different plasticizers such as neat oligomeric lactic acid (OLA) and functionalized with maleic acid (mOLA). In particular, the morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties have been studied as well as the shape memory ability of the melt-processed materials. Therefore, the influence of the interaction between different plasticizers and the PLA matrix as well as the compatibility between the two polymeric phases on the thermally-activated shape memory properties have been studied. It is very interesting to use the same additive able to act as both plasticizer and compatibilizer, decreasing the glass transition temperature of PLA to a temperature close to the physiological one, obtaining a material suitable for potential biomedical applications. In particular, we obtain that OLA-plasticized blend (oPLA/TPS) show very good thermally-activated capability at 45 °C and 50% deformation, while the blend obtained by using maleic OLA (moPLA/TPS) did not show shape memory behavior at 45 °C and 50% deformation. This fact is due to their morphological changes and the loss of two well-distinguished phases, one acting as fixed phase and the other one acting as switching phase to typically obtain shape memory response. Therefore, the thermally-activated shape memory results show that it is very important to make a balance between plasticizer and compatibilizer, considering the need of two well-established phases to obtain shape memory response. Polymeric blends are employed in the production of filaments for additive manufacturing to balance mechanical and processability properties. The mechanical and thermal properties of polymeric filaments made of poly (lactic acid) (PLA), polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), and its blend (PLA–PHA) are investigated herein and correlated to their measured structural and physicochemical properties. PLA exhibits the highest stiffness and tensile strength, but lower toughness. The mechanical properties of the PLA–PHA blend were similar to those of PLA, but with a significantly higher toughness. Despite the lower mechanical properties of neat PHA, incorporating a small amount (12 wt.%) of PHA into PLA significantly enhances toughness (approximately 50%) compared to pure PLA. The synergistic effect is attributed to the spherulitic morphology of blended PHA in PLA, promoting interactions between the amorphous regions of both polymers. Thermal stability is notably improved in the PLA–PHA blend, as determined by thermogravimetric analysis. The blend also exhibits lower cold crystallization and glass transition temperatures as compared to PLA, which is beneficial for additive manufacturing. Following additive manufacturing, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic showed that the three filaments present an increase in C–C and C=O bonds associated with the loss of C–O bonds. The thermal process induces a slight increase in crystallinity in PHA due to chain reorganization. This study investigates the rheological, morphological, and mechanical properties of melt-processed polylactide/ethylene vinyl alcohol (70PLA/30EVOH) blend composites containing 0.25, 0.5, and 1 wt.% of graphene oxide (GO) nanoplates. Thermodynamic-based suggested the localization of nanoparticles in EVOH, SEM studies showed that the introduction of GO to the blend increased dispersed droplet size, which was attributed to the localization of GO within EVOH, as confirmed by TEM. The rheology results indicated a decrease in the elasticity for the composite containing 0.25 wt.% of GO compared to the neat blend, which was attributed to the sliding effect of the added GO nanoplatelets. However, samples containing higher amounts of GO nanoplatelets exhibited more excellent elasticity than the neat blend. The increased elasticity was suggestively attributed to the dominance of hydrodynamic interactions, the physical network of added nanoplatelets, and polymer/GO interactions over the sliding role of the GO nanoplatelets at higher loadings. In addition, the effect of the order of mixing was investigated, and the premixing of PLA and GO exhibited a decrease in the droplet radius compared to the neat blend. Polymeric materials, renowned for their lightweight attributes and design adaptability, play a pivotal role in augmenting fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness in railway vehicle development. The tailored formulation of compounds, specifically designed for additive manufacturing, holds significant promise in expanding the use of these materials. This study centers on poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a natural-based biodegradable polymeric material incorporating diverse halogen-free flame retardants (FRs). Our investigation scrutinizes the printability and fire performance of these formulations, aligning with the European railway standard EN 45545-2. The findings underscore that FR in the condensed phase, including ammonium polyphosphate (APP), expandable graphite (EG), and intumescent systems, exhibit superior fire performance. Notably, FR-inducing hydrolytic degradation, such as aluminum hydroxide (ATH) or EG, reduces polymer molecular weight, significantly impacting PLA's mechanical performance. Achieving a delicate balance between fire resistance and mechanical properties, formulations with APP as the flame retardant emerge as optimal. This research contributes to understanding the fire performance and printability of 3D-printed PLA compounds, offering vital insights for the rail industry's adoption of polymeric materials. pH-sensitive amphiphilic diblock polyphosphoesters containing lactic acid units were synthesized by multistep one-pot polycondensation reactions. They comprise acid-labile P(O)-O-C and C(O)-O-C bonds, the cleavage of which depends on the pH of the medium. The structure of these copolymers was characterized by 1H, 13C {H}, 31P NMR, and size exclusion chromatography (SEC). The newly synthesized polymers self-assembled into the micellar structure in an aqueous solution. The effects of the molecular weight of the copolymer and the length of the hydrophobic chain on micelle formation and stabilityand micelle size were studied via dynamic light scattering (DLS). Drug loading and encapsulation efficiency tests using doxorubicin revealed that hydrophobic drugs can be delivered by copolymers. It was established that the molecular weight of the copolymer, length of the hydrophobic chain and content of lactate units affects the size of the micelles, drug loading, and efficiency of encapsulation. A copolymer with 10.7% lactate content has drug loading (3.2 ± 0.3) and efficiency of encapsulation (57.4 ± 3.2), compared to the same copolymer with 41.8% lactate content (1.63%) and (45.8%), respectively. It was demonstrated that the poly[alkylpoly(ethylene glycol) phosphate-b-alkylpoly(ethylene glycol)lactate phosphate] DOX system has a pH-sensitive response capability in the result in which DOX was selectively accumulated into the tumor, where pH is acidic. Backgrounds: Oral squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant tumor of the head and neck, and its molecular mechanism remains to be explored. Methods: By analyzing the OSCC data from the TCGA database, we found that SLC2A3 is highly expressed in OSCC patients. The expression level of SLC2A3 was verified by RT-PCR and western blotting in OSCC cell lines. The function of SLC2A3 in OSCC cell lines and Lactic acid in SLC2A3-knockdown OSCC cells were detected by colony formation, CCK8, transwell, and wound healing assays. The effect of SLC2A3 on tumor growth and metastasis was tested in vivo. GSEA and Western blot were used to analyze and validate tumor phenotypes and signaling pathway molecules. Results: We analyzed OSCC datasets in the TCGA database and found that SLC2A3 had abnormally high expression and was associated with poor prognosis. We also found that oral squamous cell carcinoma cells had increased proliferation, migration, invasion, EMT phenotype, and glycolysis due to SLC2A3 overexpression. Conversely, SLC2A3 knockdown had the opposite effect. Our in vivo experiments confirmed that SLC2A3 overexpression promoted tumor growth and metastasis while knockdown inhibited it. We also observed that high SLC2A3 expression led to EMT and the activation of the TGF-β signaling pathway, while knockdown inhibited it. Interestingly, exogenous lactic acid restored the EMT, proliferation, migration, and invasion abilities of oral cancer cells inhibited by knocking down SLC2A3. Conclusions: Our study reveals that SLC2A3 expression was up-regulated in OSCC.
