Over the past few years, much has been written about Germany's Nazis and about ideology, but not too much has been published on Nazi ideology. Sadly, Frøland's book does not include Umbero Eco's I Ur-Fascism i (1995) that describes fascist ideology - and by inference to Nazi ideology - to near perfection. Two other elements support Nazi race ideology: (1) the heritage of Martin Luther's religious anti-Semitism; and (2) the application of Carl Schmitt's (1888-1985) "friend ( I Freund i ) and foe ( I Feind i )" to the Nazi ideology of different races (209). Instrumental in creating an ideology that supported the Nazi mass murders throughout Europe was Hitler's official ideologist, Alfred Rosenberg's I The Myth of the Twentieth Century i that advocated one of the first steps leading to the Holocaust: "the dehumanising of Jews" (129). Critical management studies (CMS) has pervaded the field of management studies, claiming to be based on the Frankfurt School of critical theory. This paper examines that claim. It starts with a brief outline of management studies vs. CMS, and of some of CMS's goals: micro-emancipation, the production of better managers, good management, and fairer organisations. The 2008-2009 global financial crisis (GFC) has negatively impacted on banks, financial institutions and companies such as General Motors (GM), bringing the latter's European subsidiary close to insolvency and highlighting some of the US car manufacturer's long-term problems, which were solved through a partial takeover by the US government. In Germany, GM's strongest presence in Europe, the company had a close encounter with bankruptcy in the spring of 2009, narrowly averted when the sale of GM's Opel subsidiary (GMO) was actively sought. This paper is about the conflict between one company's management and one works council, in one location. The empirical field research focuses exclusively on the position of GMO's works council, reporting its views and perspectives on GMO's management and the GFC. On this basis, two arguments are presented: first, that the relevance of GMO's works council was reflective of a version of capitalism that has been associated with the model of a 'coordinated market economy' (CME) rather than an Anglo-Saxon model of a 'liberal market economy' (LME); and second, that despite the eventual cancellation of the sale of GMO by GMUSA (2010), the case highlights how key labour actors coordinated their activities in order to prevent GMO's bankruptcy. While many know or have used the term Managerialism, the development of a theory about Managerialism remains largely non‐existent. When management becomes an ideology we speak of Managerialism reaching beyond the simple administration of a business organisation. Like many "‐isms", Managerialism carries connotations to ideology, thereby leading to the question: what would the development of a theory of Managerialism's ideology look like? Since Managerialism has been largely been clarified (Klikauer, 2013 & 2015), this paper builds on these ideas to examine the question of a theory of Managerialism ideology. This is tackled in three steps: the paper discusses what an ideology is; this is followed by a brief outline of twelve characteristics of ideology delivering a threefold definition of ideology and leading to two schools of thoughts; finally, the paper shows how ideology and Managerialism are linked. In September 2017, a new political party entered Germany's parliament harvesting anti‐establishment feelings while converting frustrations over neoliberalism into xenophobia and racism. The new party calls itself "Alternative for Germany" (AfD). Corporate media label the party "populist" and "right wing." This commentary argues that the party has clear Nazi tendencies. Originally founded as a pro‐capitalism, pro‐neoliberalism, anti‐Europe, and nationalistic party, the AfD shows very serious tendencies toward Nazism. Its recent party convention moved the party even more toward Nazism. The party's Nazism is signified in the use of AfD terminologies such as the so‐far taboo‐word "völkisch"—a Nazi‐word not used in post‐war Germany. It means an anti‐Semitic Aryan Volk that is ethnically cleansed to establish the mythical Germanic and deeply antidemocratic Volksgemeinschaft led by an authoritarian leader, the Führer. Under the camouflage of being "right wing," a slow mainstreaming of fascism occurs. This commentary has four parts: the introduction explains the AfD's historic origins and predecessors; the second part elucidates media support; the third part discusses populism; and the fourth part shows the party's support network. The commentary ends with a short conclusion. Using secondary and German‐language sources, the commentary documents the AfD‐Nazi link based on statements made by AfD members and leaders.
