The integration of advanced technologies like cloud and edge computing has facilitated efficient resource coordination, resulting in improved overall management and widespread applicability. Simultaneously, addressing energy consumption, reliability, and server and communication link failure rates has become a pressing research concern. To address this challenge, an advanced combined-decomposition whale optimization algorithm has been developed. This algorithm utilizes a unique combined-decomposition operator to identify nearly optimal server coalitions, enhancing the quality of service performance. Through a training process at various utilization levels, servers determine their optimal utilization for achieving the maximum energy-to-reliability trade-off ratio. Then, a head server with the highest optimal utilization leads each of these clusters of servers. Unlike other population-based clustering methods, this algorithm incorporates the whale optimization algorithm, extending its exploration and exploitation capabilities beyond other leading scheduling algorithms. The integration of these techniques successfully achieves the dual objective of balancing energy and reliability, addressing existing challenges, and ensuring optimal energy-reliability trade-offs. Simulation experiments using various evaluation metrics demonstrate that the proposed approach enhances energy efficiency by approximately 17 to 35% and reliability by 25 to 55%, all while meeting quality service standards. While cloud computing is crucial in processing data from devices with low computational power, the latency introduced by the Internet backhaul limits real-time applications. By situating computing resources at the network's edge, edge computing offers low-latency services by offloading computations from high-performance computing (HPC) data centers to the edge servers, reducing wide Area network (WAN) strain. As a result, edge computing has unlocked opportunities for innovative applications that were previously unfeasible, such as connected vehicles or medical robotics. Nonetheless, deploying the infrastructure required to support edge computing services raises sustainability and energy consumption concerns. This paper proposes a parallel algorithm exploiting heterogeneous computing and edge computing for anomaly detection (AD) in remotely sensed multispectral images. These images present high spatial resolution and are captured onboard unmanned aerial vehicles. AD is applied to identify patterns within an image that do not conform to the expected behavior. In this paper, the anomalies correspond to human-made constructions that trigger alarms related to the integrity of fluvial ecosystems. An algorithm based on extracting spatial information by using extinction profiles (EPs) and detecting anomalies by using the Reed–Xiaoli (RX) technique is proposed. The parallel algorithm presented in this paper is designed to be executed on multi-node heterogeneous computing platforms that include nodes with multi-core central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs) and on a mobile embedded system consisting of a multi-core CPU and a GPU. With the development of science and technology, vehicles have gradually become smart network vehicles. However, applications on vehicles require great network and computing performance. It poses a great challenge to the existing Internet of Vehicles (IoV). Cloud computing can relieve the pressure of data processing, but the response time could take a long time. In the edge computing, edge server processing requests can effectively reduce response time. For example, during rush hour, in order to respond quickly, a large number of requests can be sent from the vehicles layer to the edge server. However, due to the limited bandwidth resources of edge servers, it is necessary to develop an effective bandwidth allocation model. The research in this paper consists of two main parts. First, this paper proposes a multi-objective bandwidth allocation optimization model for addressing this issue. The goal is to minimize average response time and maximize bandwidth utilization. Second, a multi-objective sparrow search algorithm (KMSSA) based on K-means algorithm is proposed to solve multi-objective bandwidth allocation. This paper compares KMSSA with particle swarm optimization (PSO) and sparrow search algorithm (SSA) on iFogSim platform. The results show that KMSSA has good optimization performance. The algorithm can be successfully applied to solve global multi-objective optimization problems. To compare with PSO algorithm, the performance of KMSSA is improved by 10%. To compare with SSA, the performance of KMSSA is improved by 5%. Also, KMSSA has superiority in solving practical problems. On considering modern society, the wireless communication system plays a most significant role. This system has kept evolving and deployed into a wireless system of Fifth Generation (5G). One of the significant factors of the 5G system has utilized Machine Learning (ML) as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the wireless network. Each of the building block and components of the wireless system, which is familiar and involves one or other ML/AI techniques are required. Here, the 5G generation has been used as the digital technology as well as run over higher radio frequencies. Further, the development of new techniques as well as the advanced features over the 5G network has raised some issues for the networking operators. ML is regarded as the AI that is accepted to unlock the capability of difficult large-scale issues over traditional Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems. Today's wireless system has incomplete the MIMO system that has become common in recent years due to the increased potential in both energy efficiency and spectrum efficiency at a significant rate. AI-dependent ML has resolved the issues and then offers more energy efficiency and throughput in the 5G system. Hence, an effective artificial intelligence-based solution is introduced for resolving the aforementioned challenges to execute an efficient MIMO system in this proposal. In this work, the operations that are carried out for developing an efficient MIMO communication system are channel estimation, spectrum sensing of channels, fault/anomaly detection, resource allocation, and edge computation offloading. For performing all these functions, a deep learning method called Adaptive Autoencoder-Based Dilated DNN with Attention Mechanism (AADD-AM) is implemented. The parameters of the designed model are optimized with the help of Modified Update of Ant Lion and Horse herd Optimization (MU-ALHO) to achieve an accurate and effective outcome. The performance of the suggested efficient MIMO model is validated by comparing it with various performance metrics. Throughout the result analysis, the accuracy and sensitivity rate of the designed model is 94.86% and 95.18%. Summary: In this paper, we study a UAV‐based fog or edge computing network in which UAVs and fog/edge nodes work together intelligently to provide numerous benefits in reduced latency, data offloading, storage, coverage, high throughput, fast computation, and rapid responses. In an existing UAV‐based computing network, the users send continuous requests to offload their data from the ground users to UAV–fog nodes and vice versa, which causes high congestion in the whole network. However, the UAV‐based networks for real‐time applications require low‐latency networks during the offloading of large volumes of data. Thus, the QoS is compromised in such networks when communicating in real‐time emergencies. To handle this problem, we aim to minimize the latency during offloading large amounts of data, take less computing time, and provide better throughput. First, this paper proposed the four‐tier architecture of the UAVs–fog collaborative network in which local UAVs and UAV–fog nodes do smart task offloading with low latency. In this network, the UAVs act as a fog server to compute data with the collaboration of local UAVs and offload their data efficiently to the ground devices. Next, we considered the Q‐learning Markov decision process (QLMDP) based on the optimal path to handle the massive data requests from ground devices and optimize the overall delay in the UAV‐based fog computing network. The simulation results show that this proposed collaborative network achieves high throughput, reduces average latency up to 0.2, and takes less computing time compared with UAV‐based networks and UAV‐based MEC networks; thus, it can achieve high QoS. Aiming at the problems of poor real-time processing and low security performance caused by the massive information of the Internet of things, a security early warning model of the Internet of things based on deep learning in edge computing environment is proposed. Firstly, the system architecture of the Internet of things is designed by using the edge computing technology, in which the intelligent router is used to obtain the network stub and send it to the nearest edge computing node for anomaly detection. Then, the attention mechanism is used to improve the long short-term memory network (LSTM), and the multidimensional LSTM model is constructed. At the same time, it is used to analyze the combined network data. Finally, according to the set threshold value, judge whether there is abnormal behavior in the network, and give early warning in time to take security defense measures. The experimental analysis of the proposed model based on NS2 simulation platform shows that its early warning success rate and time are 95.2% and 20.6 ms, respectively, and it can detect and defend various network attacks well, with high security performance. With the growing use of wireless surveillance cameras in (Internet of things) IoT applications the need to address storage capacity and transmission bandwidth challenges becomes crucial. The majority of successive frames from surveillance cameras contain redundant and irrelevant information, leading to increased transmission burden. Existing video pre-processing techniques often focus on reducing the number of frames without considering accuracy and fail to effectively handle both spatial and temporal redundancies simultaneously. To address these issues, an anchor-free key action point network (AKA-Net) is proposed for video pre-processing in the IoT-edge computing environment. The oriented Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST) and rotated Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features (BRIEF) (ORB) feature descriptor is employed to remove duplicate frames, leading to more compact and efficient video representation. The AKA-Net's major contributions include its powerful representation capabilities achieved through the bottleneck module in the information-transferring backbone network, which effectively captures multi-scale features. The information-transferring module helps to improve the performance of the object detection algorithm for video pre-processing by fusing the complementary information from different scales. This allows the algorithm to detect objects of different sizes more accurately, making it highly effective for real-time video pre-processing tasks. Then, the key action point selection module that utilizes the self-attention mechanism is introduced to accurately select informative key action points. This enables efficient network transmission with lower bandwidth requirements, while maintaining high accuracy and low latency. It treats every pixel within the feature map as a temporal-spatial point and leverages self-attention to identify and select the most relevant keypoints. Experiments show that the proposed AKA-Net outperforms existing methods in terms of compression ratio of 54.2% and accuracy with a rate of 96.7%. Recent advances in smart connected vehicles and intelligent transportation systems are based on the collection and processing of massive amounts of sensor data. There are various internal sensors integrated into modern vehicles that are useful to monitor multiple mechanical and electrical systems, and the shift to semi-autonomous vehicles adds outward-facing sensors such as cameras, lidar, and radar. Low-cost, dependable sensing, connectivity, computational capacity, and powerful analytics are ushering in a new era of vehicle context sensing and vehicular network (VANET). However, due to latency, bandwidth, cost, security, and privacy issues, as well as the growing capabilities of edge computing devices, it is necessary to examine both edge and cloud computing in order to make informed judgments based on their contexts and performances. So, in this paper, we have proposed an architecture that focuses on an intelligent transportation system based on both Cloud and Edge computing in order to monitor and analyze vehicle sensor data and its environment; known as monitoring and analyzing as a service. Our proposed architecture is able to react in real-time to any vehicle context changes in a dynamic, adaptive, and autonomous way. It generates many plans adapted to the vehicle context that will be useful for future research to achieve a self-learning and self-adaptive system. This suggested architecture helped us improve vehicle and road safety, traffic efficiency, and convenience as well as comfort to both drivers and passengers. Blockchain, a promising technology, has been extensively applied in numerous fields, such as network security, finance, and medical care. However, due to the low power consumption and weak computing power of the mobile environment, the application of blockchain in this environment still faces many challenges. Therefore, edge computing has been introduced to improve the computing power of mobile devices and encourage more mobile edge devices to join the blockchain network. In this paper, we propose a double auction model to address the issue of edge computing resource allocation in blockchain networks. Based on this auction model, we first propose a truthful double auction mechanism based on breakeven (TDAMB) to determine matched pairs of edge computing service providers (ECSPs) and miners. Furthermore, to improve the system efficiency, we propose a double auction mechanism based on a critical value (DAMCV). We also theoretically analyze the individual rationality, budget balance and truthfulness of the proposed mechanisms. To solve the problem of multi-SDN controller load balancing, a low-latency controller load balancing switch migration algorithm is proposed, and a load balancing framework consisting of three modules of load monitoring, decision-making, and switch migration is designed. Migrate the switch with the highest request rate to the controller with stronger processing capacity and closer distance, and achieve load balancing through multiple iterations, effectively solving the problem that the static controller deployment scheme cannot cope with the dynamic network environment. Since the current research on computing offloading does not consider the stability of the MEC system, an offloading decision-generation algorithm based on Lyapunov optimization is proposed. This algorithm designs a task queue scheduling model to transform the system stability problem into a queue backlog problem, considering the profit of the edge server and the delay of task processing, and establishing a resource optimization model to maximize the profit of the MEC system under the premise of meeting the stability and delay requirements of the MEC system. The experimental results show that the proposed controller load-balancing algorithm can speed up the load-balancing process and reduce the average response delay of the system by about 22.1% while maintaining high throughput. With the rapid convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and command and control communication networks, there is a swift surge in computation-intensive applications and heterogenous devices. Building an edge computing network near the protocol gateway not only facilitates network protocol conversion, but also alleviates computational load on the gateway. Nevertheless, traditional protocol gateways necessitate the inclusion of conversion methods for all communication protocols in the network for data interoperability with other devices. Consequently, constructing low-complexity protocol conversion programs, and the more efficient and equitable allocation of edge server resources, are critical challenges that need to be addressed. This paper investigates the joint problem of task offloading and heterogeneous protocol device access in command and control communication networks, deriving the benefit parameters of task offloading. We propose a real-time data unified access platform, which, by distributing configuration files, enables the IoT gateway to generate protocol conversion programs, thereby transforming all device protocols into a unified common protocol. Furthermore, to enhance the efficiency of heterogeneous device access to the network, we design a data parsing/encapsulation algorithm based on the real-time data unified access platform, supporting bidirectional mapping of two types of data. Internet of Things (IoT) systems generate a vast volume of data to process, and the volume of data generated by the IoT will continue to expand exponentially in the future. Due to the large-scale nature of such systems and their geographically distributed nature, how to optimally place operators and brokers for data processing across cloud, fog, and edge is the main concern of this paper. Furthermore, in the past, IoT systems relied on cloud-based brokers. If the communication between operators in an IoT application has to be regulated by a broker located in the cloud, the advantages brought by the processing of nodes located at the edge and the fog may be neglected. We consider various factors, such as the impact of different network topologies on operators and brokers, the needs of IoT application users, the performance of sensor layers, and the location characteristics of IoT sensors. In diverse placement strategies, the characteristics of the broker have been given special attention. This paper considers the combined architecture of the operator and broker on the edge, fog, and cloud as an optimization problem of minimizing computational processing and data transmission cost. We propose jointly placing the IoT application's operator and broker on the edge, fog, and cloud nodes. Then we proposed two algorithms: the low-complexity heuristic algorithm named GREEDY and the genetic algorithm called GA. In the field of traffic management and control systems, we are witnessing a symbiotic evolution, where intelligent infrastructure is progressively collaborating with smart vehicles to produce benefits for traffic monitoring and security, by rapidly identifying hazardous behaviours. This exponential growth is due to the rapid development of deep learning in recent years, as well as the improvements in computer vision models. These technologies allow for monitoring tasks without the need to install numerous sensors or stop the traffic, using the extensive camera network of surveillance cameras already present in worldwide roads. Physical reservoir computing is a promising solution for accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) computations. Various physical systems that exhibit nonlinear and fading-memory properties have been proposed as physical reservoirs. Highly-integrable physical reservoirs, particularly for edge AI computing, has a strong demand. However, realizing a practical physical reservoir with high performance and integrability remains challenging. Herein, we present an analogue circuit reservoir with a simple cycle architecture suitable for complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) chip integration. In several benchmarks and demonstrations using synthetic and real-world data, our developed hardware prototype and its simulator exhibit a high prediction performance and sufficient memory capacity for practical applications, showing promise for future applications in highly integrated AI accelerators. The convergence of edge computing systems with Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology has shown considerable promise in enhancing real-time applications across various domains. This paper presents an innovative edge computing system design specifically tailored for pavement defect detection within the Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADASs) domain. The system seamlessly integrates the AMD Xilinx AI platform into a customized circuit configuration, capitalizing on its capabilities. Utilizing cameras as input sensors to capture road scenes, the system employs a Deep Learning Processing Unit (DPU) to execute the YOLOv3 model, enabling the identification of three distinct types of pavement defects with high accuracy and efficiency. Following defect detection, the system efficiently transmits detailed information about the type and location of detected defects via the Controller Area Network (CAN) interface. This integration of FPGA-based edge computing not only enhances the speed and accuracy of defect detection, but also facilitates real-time communication between the vehicle's onboard controller and external systems. Moreover, the successful integration of the proposed system transforms ADAS into a sophisticated edge computing device, empowering the vehicle's onboard controller to make informed decisions in real time. Edge computing provides higher computational power and lower transmission latency by offloading tasks to nearby edge nodes with available computational resources to meet the requirements of time-sensitive tasks and computationally complex tasks. Resource allocation schemes are essential to this process. To allocate resources effectively, it is necessary to attach metadata to a task to indicate what kind of resources are needed and how many computation resources are required. However, these metadata are sensitive and can be exposed to eavesdroppers, which can lead to privacy breaches. In addition, edge nodes are vulnerable to corruption because of their limited cybersecurity defenses. Attackers can easily obtain end-device privacy through unprotected metadata or corrupted edge nodes. To address this problem, we propose a metadata privacy resource allocation scheme that uses searchable encryption to protect metadata privacy and zero-knowledge proofs to resist semi-malicious edge nodes. In the context of small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), infrared imaging faces challenges such as low quality, difficulty in detecting small targets, high false alarm rates, and computational resource constraints. To address these issues, we introduce AIMED-Net, an enhancing infrared small target detection net in UAVs with multi-layer feature enhancement for edge computing. Initially, the network encompasses a multi-layer feature enhancement architecture for infrared small targets, including a generative adversarial-based shallow-feature enhancement network and a detection-oriented deep-feature enhancement network. Specifically, an infrared image-feature enhancement method is proposed for the shallow-feature enhancement network, employing multi-scale enhancement to bolster target detection performance. Furthermore, within the YOLOv7 framework, we have developed an improved object detection network integrating multiple feature enhancement techniques, optimized for infrared targets and edge computing conditions. This design not only reduces the model's complexity but also enhances the network's robustness and accuracy in identifying small targets. Experimental results obtained from the HIT-UAV public dataset indicate that, compared to YOLOv7s, our method achieves a 2.5% increase in F1 score, a 6.1% rise in AP for detecting OtherVehicle targets, and a 2.6% improvement in mAP across all categories, alongside a 15.2% reduction in inference time on edge devices. Compared to existing state-of-the-art approaches, our method strikes a balance between detection efficiency and accuracy, presenting a practical solution for deployment in aerial edge computing scenarios. Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used in mobile edge computing (MEC) scenarios due to their flexibility, rapid deployment, and ability to expand communication coverage. This paper explores how UAVs can compute offloading more effectively when serving as mobile edge servers in the scenario of UAVs-assisted MEC. We aim to maximize the utility of the UAV operator by joint flight trajectory of UAVs, users' offloading decisions, and collaborative strategy among UAVs while considering the latency and energy consumption. To this end, we first propose a dynamic latency-aware collaborative framework based on deep reinforcement learning. This framework utilizes a queuing model to implement the dynamic task backlog and models the reward of latency-sensitive tasks using a service level agreement. Then, considering the dynamics of the environment and the complexity of the problem, we describe the problem as a markov decision process and propose a proximal policy optimization-based computation offloading algorithm to solve the problem. To address the current challenge of smart devices in healthcare Internet of things (IoT) struggling to efficiently process intensive applications in real-time, a collaborative cloud-edge offloading model tailored for ultra-dense edge computing (UDEC) networks is developed. While numerous studies have delved into the optimization of offloading in mobile edge computing (MEC), it is imperative to consider non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) as a physical technology when addressing the offloading optimization process in MEC. The multiuser sharing of spectrum resources in NOMA can enhance the network spectrum utilization and reduce the computational delay when users transmit computing tasks. Consequently, a model for NOMA-assisted UDEC systems is proposed. The model takes into account joint offloading decisions, computational resources, and sub-channel resources and is modeled as a complex nonlinear mixed-integer programming problem. The aim is to decrease the task execution delay and energy consumption of smart devices while ensuring that users' maximum acceptable delay for processing medical computational tasks is met efficiently and in a timely manner. Deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG), a deep reinforcement learning method, is employed to solve the joint optimization problem. The final simulation results show that the algorithm converges well. The proposed offloading scheme can reduce the system cost by 54.5 and 69.9% in comparison with scenarios where users solely perform local computations and offload their tasks to the base station (BS). The application of NOMA communication in our offloading scheme boosts network spectrum utilization and trims down the system cost by 87.09% when contrasted with orthogonal multiple access (OMA). During disasters, swiftly and efficiently evacuating populations in hazardous situations is crucial to minimize losses. This study proposes a novel framework to address dynamic population evacuation (DPE) problems, which includes planning and online evacuation management phases facilitated by vehicular communication. In the planning phase, a shelter allocation problem (SAP) is solved dynamically for destination choice and a dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) for path choice toward the chosen destinations to obtain an initial evacuation plan. The initial plan is then enhanced by employing a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) within the vehicular edge computing (VEC) architecture. This enhancement enables communication among evacuees, allowing them to revise their vehicle's route choice and planned destination. These revisions take into account the changing risk and traffic conditions. The proposed online DPE framework is applied to the real evacuation scenario of Mill Valley City, CA. The proposed model is evaluated with different VANET architectures, including vehicular cloud computing (VCC) and VEC. The results show that the VEC framework outperforms other configurations and improves the evacuation process compared to the scenario with an initial plan by more than 30% in network clearance time. Summary: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can serve as aerial mobile edge computing (MEC) servers to provide computing services to Internet of Things smart devices (ISDs) with insufficient computing capacity on the ground. However, how to provide energy‐efficient computing services by designing appropriate resource optimization strategy is still a challenge issue in UAV‐enabled MEC networks. To this end, this paper proposes a computation efficiency (CE)‐oriented partial offloading framework for UAV‐enabled MEC networks, where the ISDs' computation bits and energy consumption are taken into account simultaneously. Specifically, we firstly divide the ISDs into multiple clusters and determine the deployment of UAVs by k‐means method. Meanwhile, ISDs occupying the same subchannel in the same cluster can offload data through non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology. Then, the problem of maximizing the CE of the system is formulated by optimizing subchannel allocation, transmit power and computation resources of ISDs. Summary: With increasing challenges and research in edge‐assisted IoT models, an improved resource scheduling approach exploiting deep learning concepts is proposed in this research work. Improvement in performance in the proposed work is achieved primarily by addressing the response time and waiting time. This could be achieved if the optimal resources are scheduled without any delay. The presented concatenated deep learning technique considers the time series IoT network source requirements and allocates optimal resources from the resource pool, considering resource availability, workload, and computation time. Two deep learning techniques, namely, CNN and GRU, are utilized for the concatenation process, while resource characteristics are considered as features that are extracted and classified to schedule optimal resources. Novelty in the proposed work is exhibited in the form of the concatenation process proposed. Aerial object detection is crucial in various computer vision tasks, including video monitoring, early warning systems, and visual tracking. While current methods can accurately detect normal-sized objects, they face challenges distinguishing small objects from cluttered backgrounds. Developing methods that can be deployed on edge devices to achieve fast, accurate, and energy-efficient performance is also an urgent challenge. This paper proposes a network for aerial object detection by incorporating an attention mechanism to enhance feature extraction and elevate the accuracy of aerial moving object detection. Additionally, we optimize the channel dimensions of the feature extraction framework, resulting in a reduction in model parameters, acceleration of inference speed, and alleviation of the computational burden. Ulteriorly, we optimize the Spatial Pyramid Pooling (SPP) module to enhance detection accuracy and processing speed. Inspired by the ResNet and RepVGG structures, we design a feature fusion module to combine early-extracted features, improving speed and accuracy. Based on the design mentioned above principles, we develop a neural network method with an impressively small model size of only 4.5M. The proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art performance on five benchmark datasets. Besides its superior performance, our method demonstrates excellent throughput on edge computing devices. Experimental results show that even when running on low-performance computing devices, the CPU and GPU temperatures remain below 50∘C and achieve a detection speed of 14.8 frames per second (fps) and power consumption of only 2.9W. This paper proposed a coordinated edge-to-edge architecture for an emergency response scenario assisted by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), taking into consideration the frequent occurrence of natural disasters globally. The architecture incorporated a coordinator and aimed to minimize the overall system cost by considering factors such as latency, energy consumption, and loaded balancing among UAVs. And it utilized an improved deep reinforcement learning algorithm called advanced proximal policy optimization (APPO) to optimize the offloading process. Compared to binary offloading, partial offloading of tasks could effectively reduce the overall system cost. The APPO algorithm enabled users to determine suitable offloading ratios and allocate tasks to UAVs based on different task scenarios. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate a reduction of approximately 50% in the overall system cost compared to full local processing, and about 14% compared to the advanced A2C algorithm, showing the superiority of the proposed strategy in this specific scenario. In this paper, we consider a low-latency Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) network where multiple User Equipment (UE) wirelessly reports to a decision-making edge server. At the same time, the transmissions are operated with Finite Blocklength (FBL) codes to achieve low-latency transmission. We introduce the task of Age upon Decision (AuD) aimed at the timeliness of tasks used for decision-making, which highlights the timeliness of the information at decision-making moments. For the case in which dynamic task generation and random fading channels are considered, we provide a task AuD minimization design by jointly selecting UE and allocating blocklength. In particular, to solve the task AuD minimization problem, we transform the optimization problem to a Markov Decision Process problem and propose an Error Probability-Controlled Action-Masked Proximal Policy Optimization (EMPPO) algorithm. Via simulation, we show that the proposed design achieves a lower AuD than baseline methods across various network conditions, especially in scenarios with significant channel Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) differences and low average SNR, which shows the robustness of EMPPO and its potential for real-time applications. High-pressure pipelines are critical for transporting hazardous materials over long distances, but they face threats from third-party interference activities. Preventive measures are implemented, but interference accidents can still occur, making the need for high-quality detection strategies vital. This paper proposes an end-to-end Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) solution to detect potential interference threats in real time. The solution involves developing a smart visual sensor capable of processing images using state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms and transmitting alerts to pipeline operators in real time. The system's core is based on the object-detection model (e.g., You Only Look Once version 4 (YOLOv4) and DETR with Improved deNoising anchOr boxes (DINO)), trained on a custom Pipeline Visual Threat Assessment (Pipe-VisTA) dataset. Among the trained models, DINO was able to achieve the best Mean Average Precision (mAP) of 71.2% for the unseen test dataset. However, for the deployment on a limited computational-ability edge computer (i.e., the NVIDIA Jetson Nano), the simpler and TensorRT-optimized YOLOv4 model was used, which achieved a mAP of 61.8% for the test dataset. The developed AIoT device captures the image using a camera, processes on the edge using the trained YOLOv4 model to detect the potential threat, transmits the threat alert to a Fleet Portal via LoRaWAN, and hosts the alert on a dashboard via a satellite network. The device has been fully tested in the field to ensure its functionality prior to deployment for the SEA Gas use-case. The AIoT smart solution has been deployed across the 10km stretch of the SEA Gas pipeline across the Murray Bridge section. The intermittent and uncertainty of new energy in the grid connection process affects the overall quality of the grid. To resolve the scattered geographical locations, small individual capacities and poor controllability of distributed energy storage (DES) devices, edge computing is applied in conjunction with aggregate service providers to build an edge computing‐based aggregate model of DES. Regarding its characteristics, the schedulable potential of the energy storage device is analysed through modelling. A multi‐objective scheduling model with multiple parties participating in the subject's behaviour is established using the Internet of Things (IoT) optimization strategy. The simulation example of concrete data further verifies the validity of the model. Results demonstrate that the edge computing‐based aggregate model of DES effectively reduces the calculation load's peak‐valley load and reduces the wind power abandonment. In the meantime, the multiple starts and stops of the thermal power unit reduce the operation cost of the unit. The multi‐objective dispatch model can reduce the opportunity cost and payment of DES effectively. Air quality is a pressing global concern, resulting in millions of premature deaths annually. Accurate monitoring is vital to assess pollutant levels against established standards. Real-time systems are crucial in addressing air pollution challenges. This study aims to create a cost-effective, energy-efficient real-time air quality monitoring system using LPWAN (LoRa and NB-IoT) and MQTT for data collection. The increasing number of network attacks has led to the development of intrusion detection systems. However, these methods often face limitations such as high traffic flow data dimensions, which can reduce attack detection rates and noise sensitivity, affecting anomaly detection performance. This paper introduces a new model based on recurrent deep learning and instance-level horizontal reduction to detect anomalies and network attacks. The model uses nested sliding windows, which move with a specific step in the data and generate a different number of histogram outputs based on the type of anomaly in the data. Evaluation results on five databases show that the proposed model achieves a high accuracy of 99% in detecting different attacks, demonstrating the success of this new approach combined with deep recurrent neural networks in detecting anomalies. The global trend of increasing life expectancy introduces new challenges with far-reaching implications. Among these, the risk of falls among older adults is particularly significant, affecting individual health and the quality of life, and placing an additional burden on healthcare systems. Existing fall detection systems often have limitations, including delays due to continuous server communication, high false-positive rates, low adoption rates due to wearability and comfort issues, and high costs. In response to these challenges, this work presents a reliable, wearable, and cost-effective fall detection system. The proposed system consists of a fit-for-purpose device, with an embedded algorithm and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), enabling real-time fall detection. The algorithm combines a Threshold-Based Algorithm (TBA) and a neural network with low number of parameters based on a Transformer architecture. This system demonstrates notable performance with 95.29% accuracy, 93.68% specificity, and 96.66% sensitivity, while only using a 0.38% of the trainable parameters used by the other approach. This paper considers a resource allocation problem involving servers and mobile users (MUs) operating in a serverless edge computing (SEC)-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) network. Each MU has a fixed budget, and each server is powered by the grid and has energy harvesting (EH) capability. Our objective is to maximize the revenue of the operator that operates the said servers and the number of resources purchased by the MUs. We propose a Stackelberg game approach, where servers and MUs act as leaders and followers, respectively. We prove the existence of a Stackelberg game equilibrium and develop an iterative algorithm to determine the final game equilibrium price. The proliferation of edge computing, driven by network applications and wireless devices, increases the vulnerability of confidential information to security risks. In this environment, existing intrusion detection algorithms fail to satisfy the requirements of prompt responses, heavy network load management, inadequate extraction of features, and imprecise model classification. In this work, the imbalanced data problem in the input dataset is mitigated using the Data Augmentation Generative Adversarial Network (DAGAN). Next, an efficient ConvNeXt-based feature extraction method is created to retrieve the key characteristics from the dataset for every class. Last, multi-attack intrusion detection is achieved through the deployment of an optimized deep learning classifier based on ResNet152V2. Furthermore, simulation experiments are carried out on the ToN-IoT and BoT-IoT datasets, and the outcomes demonstrate that our suggested model performs better than the existing models, with accuracy levels of 99.20% and 99.31%, respectively. Internet of Things (IoT) devices are major stakeholders of contemporary network bandwidth. The proliferation of IoT devices and the demand for latency-free communication in time-critical applications has proven the drawback of cloud-based solutions. Edge computing is an paradigm that reduces the application’s response time by utilizing computation and storage proximate to each devices. Privacy in cloud computing is attained by system virtualization, containerization, among other evolved technologies. As privacy remains a primary concern, there is a need to test the feasibility of resource-constrained edge devices. Hence, this work aimed to examine the usability of such devices in edge computing by benchmarking on different runtime environments. The results reveal that a standard mechanism was achieved for defining the criteria to identify the suitable edge devices for computation offloading, particularly for a set of smart traffic surveillance use cases. Further, an optimization algorithm was designed to generate an optimum schedule that decides the best device to execute a particular task from the set of suitable edge devices to enhance energy and execution time in a global view. Based on the feasibility study and optimal schedule, a makespan that is nearly 11 times better than local execution for the considered traffic surveillance workflow was achieved. In today’s Higher Education System (HES), Smart Learning (SL), also known as Intelligent Learning (IL) or Adaptive Learning (AL), plays an increasingly vital role. No longer is the traditional, one-size-fits-all method of education suitable for filling the several demands of students. Using SL technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms can potentially revolutionize the HES. An emerging area of study, edge-based SL helps use Edge Computing (EC) to provide learners with instantaneous, specialized, and context-aware learning. Internet of Things (IoT) devices are becoming increasingly well-liked, and data is proliferating. Using video data as a primary source of learning content and delivering it via EC infrastructure is what is referred to as “Video Streaming (VS)” in Edge-Based Learning (EBL). By examining the importance of providing mobile video clients with a high-quality visual experience—especially considering that video streaming (VS) traffic makes up a significant amount of mobile network traffic—the research gap is filled. The proposed Content Delivery Scheme (CDS), which is based on long short-term memory, is intended to improve security and privacy protocols, accelerate network service response times, and increase application intelligence. The project intends to close the current gap in edge-based Smart Learning (SL) technologies, namely in the distribution of video material for adaptive learning in higher education, by concentrating on these elements. Given that VS traffic forms a considerable portion of mobile network traffic, this paper aims to investigate the significance of delivering a performing visual experience to mobile video clients. Artificial intelligence (AI) edge devices prefer employing high-capacity nonvolatile compute-in-memory (CIM) to achieve high energy efficiency and rapid wakeup-to-response with sufficient accuracy. Most previous works are based on either memristor-based CIMs, which suffer from accuracy loss and do not support training as a result of limited endurance, or digital static random-access memory (SRAM)-based CIMs, which suffer from large area requirements and volatile storage. We report an AI edge processor that uses a memristor-SRAM CIM-fusion scheme to simultaneously exploit the high accuracy of the digital SRAM CIM and the high energy-efficiency and storage density of the resistive random-access memory memristor CIM. This also enables adaptive local training to accommodate personalized characterization and user environment. The fusion processor achieved high CIM capacity, short wakeup-to-response latency (392 microseconds), high peak energy efficiency (77.64 teraoperations per second per watt), and robust accuracy (>0.5% accuracy loss). Federated learning (FL) in mobile edge computing has emerged as a promising machine-learning paradigm in the Internet of Things, enabling distributed training without exposing private data. It allows multiple mobile devices (MDs) to collaboratively create a global model. FL not only addresses the issue of private data exposure but also alleviates the burden on a centralized server, which is common in conventional centralized learning. However, a critical issue in FL is the imposed computing for local training on multiple MDs, which often have limited computing capabilities. This limitation poses a challenge for MDs to actively contribute to the training process. To tackle this problem, this paper proposes an adaptive dataset management (ADM) scheme, aiming to reduce the burden of local training on MDs. Through an empirical study on the influence of dataset size on accuracy improvement over communication rounds, we confirm that the amount of dataset has a reduced impact on accuracy gain. Based on this finding, we introduce a discount factor that represents the reduced impact of the size of the dataset on the accuracy gain over communication rounds. To address the ADM problem, which involves determining how much the dataset should be reduced over classes while considering both the proposed discounting factor and Kullback–Leibler divergence (KLD), a theoretical framework is presented. The ADM problem is a non-convex optimization problem. To solve it, we propose a greedy-based heuristic algorithm that determines a suboptimal solution with low complexity. This paper focuses on the use of smart manufacturing in lathe-cutting tool machines, which can experience thermal deformation during long-term processing, leading to displacement errors in the cutting head and damage to the final product. This study uses time-series thermal compensation to develop a predictive system for thermal displacement in machine tools, which is applicable in the industry using edge computing technology. Two experiments were carried out to optimize the temperature prediction models and predict the displacement of five axes at the temperature points. First, an examination is conducted to determine possible variances in time-series data. This analysis is based on the data obtained for the changes in time, speed, torque, and temperature at various locations of the machine tool. Using the viable machine-learning models determined, the study then examines various cutting settings, temperature points, and machine speeds to forecast the future five-axis displacement. Second, to verify the precision of the models created in the initial phase, other time-series models are examined and trained in the subsequent phase, and their effectiveness is compared to the models acquired in the first phase. This work also included training seven models of WNN, LSTNet, TPA-LSTM, XGBoost, BiLSTM, CNN, and GA-LSTM. The study found that the GA-LSTM model outperforms the other three best models of the LSTM, GRU, and XGBoost models with an average precision greater than 90%. Based on the analysis of training time and model precision, the study concluded that a system using LSTM, GRU, and XGBoost should be designed and applied for thermal compensation using edge devices such as the Raspberry Pi. In this paper, we consider an integrated sensing, communication, and computation (ISCC) system to alleviate the spectrum congestion and computation burden problem. Specifically, while serving communication users, a base station (BS) actively engages in sensing targets and collaborates seamlessly with the edge server to concurrently process the acquired sensing data for efficient target recognition. A significant challenge in edge computing systems arises from the inherent uncertainty in computations, mainly stemming from the unpredictable complexity of tasks. With this consideration, we address the computation uncertainty by formulating a robust communication and computing resource allocation problem in ISCC systems. The primary goal of the system is to minimize total energy consumption while adhering to perception and delay constraints. This is achieved through the optimization of transmit beamforming, offloading ratio, and computing resource allocation, effectively managing the trade-offs between local execution and edge computing. To overcome this challenge, we employ a Markov decision process (MDP) in conjunction with the proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm, establishing an adaptive learning strategy. The proposed algorithm stands out for its rapid training speed, ensuring compliance with latency requirements for perception and computation in applications. To solve the security problems of the moving robot system in the fog network of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), this paper presents a privacy‐preserving data integration scheme in the moving robot system. First, a novel data collection enhancement algorithm is proposed to enhance the image effects, and a k‐anonymous location and data privacy protection protocol based on Ad hoc network (Ad hoc‐based KLDPP protocol) is designed in secure data collection phase to protect the privacy of location and network data. Second, the secure multiparty computation with verifiable key sharing is introduced to realize the valid computation against share cheating in the robot system. Third, the ciphertext classification method in a neural network is considered in the secure data storage process to realize the special application. Finally, experiments and simulations are conducted on the robot system of fog computing in the IIoT. LoRaWAN has become the technology of choice for increasing Internet of Things applications owing to its long range and low power consumption characteristics. However, in the uplink confirmed messaging cases, the entire retransmission could take several seconds, so it cannot be used in scenarios that require rapid confirmed messaging, such as emergency alerting and real-time controlling applications. Nevertheless, there has been limited work targeting this issue. This study presents a novel LoRaWAN gateway using edge computing to expedite the confirmed messaging process by generating the acknowledgment (ACK) locally, so that the confirmed messaging time can be significantly reduced. Additionally, the resource utilization of the network server can also be decreased due to the use of edge computing. We verified the effectiveness of our solution through extensive simulations and experiments. The confirmed messaging time between the end nodes and the gateway averaged 43 ms for a maximum of 2 retransmissions. With the adoption of edge computing on the gateway, the network server's central processing unit (CPU), memory, and bandwidth peak utilization decrease from 53.51 to 39.46, 73.88 to 72.11%, and 4422.68 kbps to 3271.27 kbps, respectively. Designing high-speed and energy-efficient blocks for image and digital signal processing (DSP) architecture is an evolving research field. This work designs a high-speed and energy-efficient multiply-accumulate (MAC) unit to augment the performance of field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based accelerators and softcore processors. In this work, three discrete 32-bit fixed-point signed MAC architectures were designed in Verilog and synthesized for the Zynq 7000 ZedBoard to obtain efficient MAC architecture. The ultimate goal of this work is to design a fast and energy-efficient MAC unit that can achieve speed up to the DSP48 block to reduce the latency of IoT edge computing. Energy efficiency was achieved in PPG and partial product addition (PPA) for the proposed Booth radix-4 Dadda (BR4D)-based MAC. At PPG, the width of the partial product (PP) terms was optimized with Bewick’s signed extension to reduce the power consumption. At PPA, the number of PP rows reduces the critical path delay (CPD) with Dadda-based PPA. The proposed BR4D MAC unit offers a reduction in dynamic power, CPD, power-delay product (PDP) and energy-delay product (EDP) by 22%, 9%, 29% and 36%, respectively, compared to standard Booth radix-4 Wallace tree (BR4WT) based MAC. Furthermore, hybrid MACs (BR4WT and BR4D) were compared with the current state-of-the-art (SoA) designs, and it was found that the proposed BR4D MAC is 47% faster compared to the same design in SoA. The proposed BR4D was tested for frequency scaling technique by reducing the frequency in steps of 10 MHz from a maximum usable frequency (MUF) of 64 MHz to 10 MHz to evaluate the performance for low-power applications. Reducing clock frequency by 84% will reduce the power consumption at the same proportion and speed by 38%. DNA methylation analysis based on supervised machine learning algorithms with static reference data, allowing diagnostic tumour typing with unprecedented precision, has quickly become a new standard of care. Whereas genome-wide diagnostic methylation profiling is mostly performed on microarrays, an increasing number of institutions additionally employ nanopore sequencing as a faster alternative. In addition, methylation-specific parallel sequencing can generate methylation and genomic copy number data. Given these diverse approaches to methylation profiling, to date, there is no single tool that allows (1) classification and interpretation of microarray, nanopore and parallel sequencing data, (2) direct control of nanopore sequencers, and (3) the integration of microarray-based methylation reference data. Furthermore, no software capable of entirely running in routine diagnostic laboratory environments lacking high-performance computing and network infrastructure exists. To overcome these shortcomings, we present EpiDiP/NanoDiP as an open-source DNA methylation and copy number profiling suite, which has been benchmarked against an established supervised machine learning approach using in-house routine diagnostics data obtained between 2019 and 2021. Running locally on portable, cost- and energy-saving system-on-chip as well as gpGPU-augmented edge computing devices, NanoDiP works in offline mode, ensuring data privacy. It does not require the rigid training data annotation of supervised approaches. Furthermore, NanoDiP is the core of our public, free-of-charge EpiDiP web service which enables comparative methylation data analysis against an extensive reference data collection. We envision this versatile platform as a useful resource not only for neuropathologists and surgical pathologists but also for the tumour epigenetics research community. Recently, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted edge computing is proposed to improve the quality of service in some scenarios within sparse or unavailable base stations (BSs). Meanwhile, the caching technology is adopted to reduce the wireless traffic load and the data transmission delay. However, due to the limited storage capacity of edge nodes, the edge nodes cannot store all of the contents required by user equipment (UE). So, how to select the reasonable contents for caching on edge nodes to reduce the content delivery delay becomes a challenge in the UAV-assisted edge computing environment. In this paper, the Dijkstra algorithm based cooperative caching strategy for UAV-assisted edge computing system is proposed. Specially, the content transmission delay between two nodes is computed. Then, for each requested content, the weighted edge-undirected graph (WEUG), in which one vertex represents one node, is built. Furthermore, Dijkstra algorithm is adopted to achieve the minimal content transmission delay from the edge node caching the requested content to UE. Finally, the optimization problem of content caching is built, and the corresponding cache strategy is achieved by solving the optimization problem. The experimental results imply that the proposed cooperative caching algorithm can achieve better performance on the average content transmission delay, the average cache hit rate, and the total of hops, respectively, comparing with the benchmark algorithms. Machine‐learning‐enhanced nanosensors are rapidly emerging as a promising solution in the field of sensor technology, as traditional sensors encounter limitations of data analysis in their development. Since the inception of machine‐learning algorithms being applied to enhance nanosensors, they have gained significant attention due to their adaptive and predictive capabilities, which promise to dramatically improve efficiency in data collection and processing applications. Herein, a comprehensive overview of technological innovation is provided by reviewing the latest developments in cloud computing, edge computing, and the burgeoning realm of neuromorphic computing. Cloud computing has emerged as a powerhouse, harnessing formidable computational capabilities to process vast volumes of high‐dimensional data. Then, the research directions for various applications of these cloud artificial intelligence (AI)‐enhanced nanosensors are outlined. Moreover, the integration of AI and nanosensor technology into chip‐level edge computing, although promising, still faces challenges such as energy‐efficient hardware development, algorithm optimization, and scalability for mass production. Finally, a forward‐looking perspective on the future of machine‐learning‐enhanced nanosensors is provided, delineating the challenges and opportunities for further research and innovation in this exciting field. In edge computing environments, limited storage and computational resources pose significant challenges to complex super-resolution network models. To address these challenges, we propose an agile super-resolution network via intelligent path selection (ASRN) that utilizes a policy network for dynamic path selection, thereby optimizing the inference process of super-resolution network models. Its primary objective is to substantially reduce the computational burden while maximally maintaining the super-resolution quality. To achieve this goal, a unique reward function is proposed to guide the policy network towards identifying optimal policies. The proposed ASRN not only streamlines the inference process but also significantly boosts inference speed on edge devices without compromising the quality of super-resolution images. Extensive experiments across multiple datasets confirm ASRN's remarkable ability to accelerate inference speeds while maintaining minimal performance degradation. Additionally, we explore the broad applicability and practical value of ASRN in various edge computing scenarios, indicating its widespread potential in this rapidly evolving domain. The rapid growth of edge devices and mobile applications has driven the adoption of edge computing to handle computing tasks closer to end-users. However, the heterogeneity of edge devices and their limited computing resources raise challenges in the efficient allocation of computing resources to complete services with different characteristics and preferences. In this paper, we delve into an edge scenario comprising multiple Edge Computing Servers (ECSs), multiple Device-to-Device (D2D) Edge Nodes (ENs), and multiple edge devices. In order to address the resource allocation challenge among ECSs, ENs, and edge devices in high-workload environments, as well as the pricing of edge resources within the resource market framework, we propose a Risk Assessment Contract Algorithm (RACA) based on risk assessment theory. The RACA enables ECSs to assess risks associated with local users by estimating their future revenue potential and updating the contract autonomously at present and in the future. ENs acquire additional resources from ECSs to efficiently complete local users' tasks. Simultaneously, ENs can also negotiate reasonable resource requests and pricing with ECSs by a Stackelberg game algorithm. Furthermore, we prove the unique existence of Nash equilibrium in the established game, implying that equilibrium solutions can stably converge through computational methods in heterogeneous environments. Finally, through simulation experiments on the dataset, we demonstrate that risk assessment can better enhance the overall profit capability of the system. Moreover, through multiple experiments, we showcase the stability of the contract's autonomous update capability. The RACA exhibits better utility in terms of system profit capabilities, stability in high-workload environments, and energy consumption.
