Purpose: This study investigated the feasibility of starting a new sports business in the Iranian shoe industry. Methodology: The research method was qualitative, utilizing library sources and interviews with 15 participants, including sports start-up owners and professionals from Science and Technology Park. The thematic analysis method was employed, and the sampling strategy was purposive. In addition, a questionnaire based on the AHP method was distributed among 10 participants to prioritize the key elements. In this regard, Expert Choice software was used.Findings: The study identified economic, financial, environmental, technological, team, and market feasibility essential for launching a sports start-up in the shoe industry. Based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process approach, the prioritization of these elements was determined as economic, human resource, financial, market, technological, and environmental. In addition, the prioritization of the sub-elements of each of the feasibility studies was also presented. Sports business owners must conduct proper planning and feasibility assessments when launching sports start-ups, considering the current market conditions. The key elements identified in this study can be used for sports business projects in Iran's economy.Originality: The research has a strategic perspective in examining the probability of successful sports startups, which has received little attention. This study also opens up a new approach to forecasting in the sports shoe industry.

Entrepreneurship requires continued investment of time to build a successful venture. But how might we predict the amount of time an entrepreneur will invest in their venture? This research proposes that prior time invested, in conjunction with business plan usage and opportunity confidence, helps answer this question. Using data from a panel study of entrepreneurs in Australia, results show that most nascent entrepreneurs, on average, increased the time they invested in their ventures over the course of the study. However, the combination of actively using a business plan with high and moderate levels of venture confidence resulted in a decrease of time investment, as opposed to an increase when venture confidence was low. This may suggest that when supplemented by a business plan, the fear of failure motivates entrepreneurs to work harder towards achieving a goal, even when the perceived possibility of success is lower. Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) in South Africa continue to endure economic challenges in spite of their entrepreneurial activities and potential for growth. The study’s purpose was to investigate the impact of business empowerment workshops on the growth of SMMEs towards radical economic transformation in a South African municipality. Small businesses continue to struggle in spite of being recognised as important contributors to growth in the country and have been on the national agenda since 1994. This study analysed the current state of small business in a particular municipality and examined initiatives to assist small businesses and their current obstacles, and what could be done to encourage small business growth. The study proposed to introduce ways on how growth could translate into improvements in the lives of workers and the community thereby reducing the unemployment rate in the province. There was a general agreement about funding opportunities becoming available after attending the workshops. A quantitative approach was utilised with the use of a survey questionnaire. One recommendation was the establishment of a special purpose fund invested through an insurance institution towards resuscitating SMMEs that face growth-related challenges.

In today‟s fierce competitive world, entrepreneurship has taken an upswing because business owners are facing a technological challenge in which uniqueness and particularity are key elements to detour rivals. In this essence, entrepreneurs have to go by not only developing business plans but also a deep analysis of their environment. Business plans for entrepreneurs can take different models depending on the party that will evaluate its elements based on its requirements. However, there exists a basic format that most entrepreneurs follow. Because of time constraints, business owners are urging its usefulness and so are the investors. Business plans are all about nailing down the business idea into writing and analysis, while this seems a feasible task; there are plenty of external and internal research to be set set in order to accomplish it. Within these measures in place, there exists a quick yet effective model that could carry on the thought and set the startup business into action. The model is called business plan canvas; it is based on the CUSB model that serve both the business owner and or the investor to better catch on the business idea and understand its objectives and requirements starting by the customer, the non satisfied need, the solution, and the benefits to be offered. It is also a model that helps the potential entrepreneur to sell his thoughts in order to get some funds, counseling, and a road map to follow for his future business endeavor. We explore a well-known instance of fast decision making under high uncertainty, venture capital (VC) opportunity screening. We analyze a sample of 722 funding requests submitted to an American VC firm and evaluate the influence of the form of the submission and content of business planning documents on VC funding decisions. We improve on prior literature by a) using a large sample of known representativeness, b) relating request characteristics to actual VC decisions, and c) developing an inferential logic that takes account of the multiple sources of information to which VCs have access. We find that the presence of planning documents and some information contained therein are weakly associated with VC funding decisions. The problems of rational investing, in other words efficient planning and realization of investment projects, are among key problems in development of every enterprise. For successful realization of business plans, enterprise should make use of its internal strengths and available resources from surroundings, and turn them into its competitive advantage. Small and medium enterprises in Serbia are facing low liquidity and a lack of their own funds for investing into long-term and development projects. Therefore, investment projects are conducted with a high participation of loaned funds, mainly credits, with high interest rates and short terms for paying back. The sector of small enterprises makes numerous mistakes when creating financial plans. Enterprises don’t understand basic parameters of revenues, especially which leverage points manage revenues, and revenues, themselves, are set on a too optimistic level. The time necessary to create revenues is also underestimated. In projections, many significant cost items are underestimated, and some costs are overlooked, which, inevitably, leads to liquidity problems. Needed cash funds are not acquired quickly, so the consequence is a negative cash flow, with all negative consequences in the later life of an enterprise. Such situation dictates necessity of additional caution when assessing investment projects' profitability because investment failures cause large negative consequences, both for an enterprise and a wider area or branch in which it functions. For the assessment of its investment projects small enterprises must use dynamic methods which take time value of money into consideration and which contribute to a better control of cash flows and liquidity of an enterprise.

Tissue viability services have been reconfigured and developed as a result of increased pressure on the NHS to deliver more efficient services that maintain quality of care. There is a need for tissue viability clinicians to develop the skills to outline and effect positive changes in practice. For this, they need business development skills, one of the most important of which is presentation skills. The creation of new firms is important for the economy, and entrepreneurial learning is essential for the performance of new firms. We contribute to existing knowledge by combining these two topics and considering a third one: The role of multinational companies (MNCs) as a source of learning for the entrepreneur. This approach has rarely been taken in the literature. We investigated the performance of a group of young companies created by former employees of MNCs and their relationship with entrepreneurial learning in such companies. The study was based on a sample of 175 former employees of MNCs in Costa Rica, who founded their own firm between 2001 and 2007. The control group was formed in the same sectors and over the same time period, but contained people who were not former employees of MNCs. We found a positive linear relationship between post-start-up entrepreneurial learning and performance. No relationship was found between pre-start-up entrepreneurial learning and performance. We did not find significant differences in entrepreneurs with work experience in MNCs. This poses interesting questions for future work.

Research Summary This study develops and tests a counterfactual model of the relationship between formal written business plans and the achievement of new venture viability. This is important because extant theory remains oppositional, and there is a practical need to provide guidance to founders on the utility of formal plans. To test our model, we use propensity score matching to identify the impact that founder, venture, and environmental factors have on the decision to write a formal plan (selection effects). Having isolated these selection effects, we test whether or not these plans help founders achieve venture viability (performance effects). Our results, using data on 1,088 founders, identify two key results: (1) selection effects matter in the decision to plan; and (2) it pays to plan. Managerial Summary This study assesses whether founders who write formal plans are more likely to achieve new venture viability. This is important because, despite its popularity, there is considerable debate about the value of plans. One root reason for this is that what prompts a founder to plan also impacts his/her chances of creating a viable new venture. The study's novelty is to separate out influences on the decision to plan from the plan-venture viability relationship. Our results show that better-educated founders, those wanting to grow and innovate, and those needing external finance are more likely to plan. Subsequently, having isolated what prompts planning, we assess if writing a plan actually promotes venture viability. We find that it pays to plan. Copyright © 2016 Strategic Management Society. The official data concerning the general consolidated budget show that it recorded, at the end of the year 2015, a cash deficit of only 1.47% from the GDP (Gross domestic product), and the result recorded is the best from the past 10 years. The positive internal economic background will suffer a series of challenges in the year 2016, given by the international circumstances, as well as the maturity degree of the political decision makers, who risk subordinating certain budgetary fiscal measures to the political interests generated by the local and general elections. It is worth keeping in mind that the reduction of fiscality lead to a relative growth of the entrepreneurs' trust in the state fiscal institutions, but this should be followed by the decrease of the negative effects of the pressure exerted on payers by the fiscal institutions, who do not distinguish between honest taxpayers and the ones who turn to tax evasion, and who must suffer the rigors of the law. To this, it is added the legislation that is sometimes contradictory and excessively heavy, the fact that the National Agency of Fiscal Administration does not have a clear and efficient system for the detection of activities with a high fiscal risk, which may be accomplished through the inter-connection of the specific databases of the specialized institutions of the state. The fields of travel and international medicine are rapidly changing and growing. The role of occupational and travel health nurses is expanding and should be a focus for the future. At the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses Annual meeting on March 24, 2015, in Boston, five presentations were included in the session, An Update on Travel Vaccines and Issues in Travel and International Medicine. This article summarizes three of the presentations and includes a portion of the information generated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) included in the fourth presentation. The first section focuses on the Essential Elements of Travel Medicine Programs including the pre-travel care assessment, trip research and risk identification, medication intervention review, non-pharmaceutical and prevention strategies, and post-travel care. The next section is an overview of key issues for business travelers. The growth in the number of international business travelers and unique aspects of business travel are emphasized in a comprehensive travel health program. This section also includes a discussion of expatriates and their special risks identified in recent literature (e.g., an assessment of the significant costs of health events and productivity losses by both business travelers and expatriates). The final section offers a specific example of a vaccine-preventable disease, namely, Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus, and needed changes in JE vaccine recommendations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines two groups of Damien Hirst's artwork to determine which appreciates more in value over time. Do unique, Hirst-created works appreciate more because they are one-of-a-kind, or does Hirst's established brand support the prices of the pieces in the repeated series? I find that the laws of supply and demand hold in the market for Hirst's work. Scarcer, unique works exhibit higher rates of return than repeated series works. It proposes a technology-driven roadmapping processes that starts from capability analysis for technology planning and ends with business opportunity analysis for market planning. We suggest the use of patent data as a proxy measure of technological capability for this purpose and develop four analysis modules -- Monitoring, Collaboration, Diversification, and Benchmarking -- to support decision-making during the process. Various analysis techniques such as text-mining, network analysis, citation analysis and index analysis are applied to discover meaningful implications from the patent data, which are summarized in four maps -- Actor-similarity map, Actor-relations map, Technology-industry map, and Technology-affinity map. For the purpose of illustration, RFID-related patents are collected and the 18 firms with the most patents used, focusing especially on the third biggest. We believe using roadmapping and patent analysis together can play complementary roles for each other. Putting roadmapping techniques together with patent analysis can increase the objectivity and reliability of technology roadmap, while using patent analysis restricted to technological information together with roadmapping techniques can ensure that a more valuable breadth of strategic information is extracted from patents.
