The primary purpose of the current study was to study the possible pernicious effects of phosphine gas on enzyme activity alterations in Trogoderma granarium to determine its harmfulness to human beings after its prolonged exposure and intake. The saline extract of the adult Khapra beetle was biochemically analyzed at different doses, that is, from 10ppm to 30ppm, to accurately evaluate the effects of various phosphine concentrations (LC 30 and LC 50 ) on 2 distinct strains of this insect pest gathered from different godowns of Pakistan as resistant (Chitral [Chi], Haroon Abad [Hbd], and Lahore [Lhr]) and susceptible (Faqeer wali [Fqw], Khanewal [Khw], and Rawalpindi [Rwp]) populations. Our experimental results suggest that the enzyme levels (AcP, AkP, ALAT, ASAT, LDH, and ICDH) seemed to be elevated with increasing dosage of phosphine from 10ppm to 30ppm in the resistant populace of the susceptible ones. It also illustrates that phosphine and its residues can inhibit the workability of certain enzymes that are vital for respiration and neuro reactions in hexapods and mammals. It has detrimental effects of phosphine on human health profile to consume stored food products containing such tenacious enemies.

In this study, the failure mechanism of laser welds in lap-shear specimens of a high strength low alloy (HSLA) steel under quasi-static loading conditions is examined based on the experimental and computational results. Optical micrographs of the welds in the specimens before tests were examined to understand the microstructure near the weld. A micrographic analysis of the failed welds in lap-shear specimens indicates a ductile necking/shear failure mechanism near the heat affected zone. Micro-hardness tests were conducted to provide an assessment of the mechanical properties of the joint area which has varying microstructure due to the welding process. A finite element analysis was also carried out to identify the effects of the weld geometry and different mechanical properties of the weld and heat affected zones on the failure mechanism. The results of the finite element analysis show that the geometry of the weld protrusion and the higher effective stress--plastic strain curves of the heat affected and weld zones result in the necking/shear failure of the load carrying sheet. The deformed shape of the finite element model near the weld matches well with that near a failed weld. A finite element analysis based on the Gurson yield function with consideration of void nucleation and growth was also carried out. The results of the finite element analysis indicate that the location of the material elements with the maximum void volume fraction matches well with that of the initiation of ductile fracture as observed in the experiments. Roll bonding (RB) describes solid-state manufacturing processes where cold or hot rolling of plates or sheet metal is carried out for joining similar and dissimilar materials through the principle of severe plastic deformation. This review covers the mechanics of RB processes, identifies the key process parameters, and provides a detailed discussion on their scientific and/or engineering aspects, which influence the microstructure–mechanical behavior relations of processed materials. It further evaluates the available research focused on improving the metallurgical and mechanical behavior of bonded materials such as microstructure modification, strength enhancement, local mechanical properties, and corrosion and electrical resistance evolution. Moreover, current applications and advantages, limitations of the process and developments in dissimilar material hot roll bonding technologies for producing titanium to steel and stainless steel to carbon steel ultra-thick plates are also discussed. The paper concludes by deliberating on the bonding mechanisms, engineering guidelines and process–property–structure relationships, and recommending probable areas for future research. Highlights This study presents a novel hybrid‐sandwich composite structure, customized for nose radomes applications, incorporating a foam core and distinct opposite face sheets composed of Kevlar and S‐Glass materials. Addressing in‐phase electromagnetic properties, UV protection and low velocity impact responses in our previously published work, this paper empirically and numerically investigates the damage tolerance response of the proposed structures through compression after impact (CAI) testing. The low velocity impacts (LVIs) on S‐Glass face sheets exhibited unique energy dispersion and absorption mechanisms, resulting in variations in indent damage depths and widths across all impact energy levels as compared with LVIs on Kevlar face sheets. After experimentally assessing the CAI behavior, a FE model is developed to predict CAI behavior, which closely aligned with experimental findings. This study, unprecedented in existing literature, proposes hybrid sandwich structures for nose radome aerospace applications, with superior specific impact and residual strength compared to various composite sandwich structures documented in the published literature expanding its utility beyond radomes. Innovative composites with superior low velocity impact response, tested for compression after impact performance. Designed for nose radomes found suitable for other impact prone applications.
