The perfluorocarbons tetrafluoromethane (CF4, PFC-14) and hexafluoroethane (C2F6, PFC-116) are potent greenhouse gases with near-permanent atmospheric lifetimes relative to human timescales and global warming potentials thousands of times that of CO2. Using long-term atmospheric observations from a Chinese network and an inverse modeling approach (top--down method), we determined that CF4 emissions in China increased from 4.7 (4.2-5.0, 68% uncertainty interval) Gg y-1 in 2012 to 8.3 (7.7-8.9) Gg y-1 in 2021, and C2F6 emissions in China increased from 0.74 (0.66-0.80) Gg y-1 in 2011 to 1.32 (1.24-1.40) Gg y-1 in 2021, both increasing by approximately 78%. Combined emissions of CF4 and C2F6 in China reached 78 Mt CO2-eq in 2021. The absolute increase in emissions of each substance in China between 2011-2012 and 2017-2020 was similar to (for CF4), or greater than (for C2F6), the respective absolute increase in global emissions over the same period. Substantial CF4 and C2F6 emissions were identified in the less-populated western regions of China, probably due to emissions from the expanding aluminum industry in these resource-intensive regions. It is likely that the aluminum industry dominates CF4 emissions in China, while the aluminum and semiconductor industries both contribute to C2F6 emissions. Based on atmospheric observations, this study validates the emission magnitudes reported in national bottom--up inventories and provides insights into detailed spatial distributions and emission sources beyond what is reported in national bottom--up inventories. We face significant environmental pollution problems due to various industries, such as the aluminum industry, which generates large amounts of red mud (RM) waste, or agriculture, in which case the use of pesticides creates huge water pollution problems. In this context, the present study offers a better perspective to originally solve both environmental issues. Thus, the main target of the study referred to using RM waste as a filler for preparing composite copolymer beads. Thereafter, this can achieve significant removal of water pollutants due to their adsorption/oxidation characteristics. As evidenced by the changes in chemical structure and composition, thermal stability, morphology, and porosity, RM was homogenously incorporated in poly(acrylonitrile-co-acrylic acid) beads prepared by wet phase inversion. The final assessment for the removal of pesticides by adsorption and oxidation processes was proven successful. In this regard, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was chosen as a model pollutant, for which an adsorption capacity of 16.08 mg/g composite beads was achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aluminum is an important metal material in people's modern life, and bauxite is the main raw material for the production of aluminum. With the continuous development of domestic aluminum industry, the demand for bauxite resources is increasing year by year. However, the quality of domestic bauxite resources is poor, the supply is insufficient, and the degree of external dependence of bauxite is high, which brings a serious threat to the supply security of aluminum resources in China and restricts the sustainable development of China's aluminum industry. In order to cope with the scarcity of high-quality bauxite resources in China, the development of complex and difficult-to-process bauxite resources, such as high sulfur and high iron bauxite, is crucial to ensuring the strategic security of China's bauxite resources. China has a large amount of complex bauxite resources, such as high-sulfur and high-iron bauxite, which is more than 1.5 billion tons, accompanied by other strategic metal resources, which is urgently needed to be efficiently developed and advanced technology is used to realize the industrial application of this kind of typical poor and miscellaneous bauxite. Excessive sulfur and iron impurities in bauxite will have non-negligible effects on the process of aluminum extraction by Bayer process, such as corroding equipment and pipes, increasing alkali consumption and red mud, affecting the quality of alumina and so on. Therefore, starting with the present situation and characteristics of high-sulfur and high-iron bauxite resources in China, the current research progress of desulphurization and iron removal process of high-sulfur and high-iron bauxite has been summarized. The main desulfurization technologies such as flotation desulfurization, perorating desulfurization, biological desulfurization and physical iron removal, chemical iron removal and biological iron removal are summarized. The industrial application level of various processes is discussed and several typical examples of industrial application of high-sulfur and high-iron bauxite are given. It will provide theoretical support for the development and utilization of complex bauxite resources in China, make effective use of difficult-to-process aluminum resources, reduce China's dependence on foreign aluminum resources, and improve the supporting force of bauxite resources. Recent findings in occupational medicine have demonstrated that common pathology is one of the main factors determining poor health of workers in hazardous industries. Non-occupational pathology also has a significant effect on timing of occupational disease onset. Our objective was to conduct a comparative analysis of comorbidities in patients with different occupational diseases. The study was conducted retrospectively. We created a database of medical records of aluminum and refractory workers and analyzed all diagnoses and systemic disorders identified during the clinical examination of these patients using SPSS Statistics 23. The comorbidity index was used to determine the degree of somatic burden of the subjects. We assessed transnosological and transsystemic multimorbidity, as well as the relationship between multimorbidity and the diagnosed occupational disease. The hypothesis for normality of the indicators under study was tested by carrying out calculations using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, which allowed the use of parametric sample estimates, Student's t-test and one-way analysis of variance for data analysis. We established comorbidities that were significantly more frequent among the patients suffering from fluorosis or silicosis. Exposure to occupational hazards in different industries affects the profile of comorbidity. We observed a pronounced polysystemic nature of lesions in aluminum production workers and the predominance of comorbid diseases of the respiratory system in refractory workers. The level of multimorbidity among the workers of the refractory industry was significantly lower than that in the aluminum production, which allows a conclusion on a more pronounced negative impact of a combination of hazards in the latter on workers’ health.

To enhance the slagging efficiency of the lime-based slag system during the pre-treatment stage of hot metal, a composite calcium ferrite flux based on aluminum industry solid waste was developed in this study. The melting characteristics of the flux and its application in the pre-treatment of hot metal were investigated. The results indicated that the main phases of the composite calcium ferrite were CaFe2O4, Ca2Fe2O5, and Ca2(Fe,Al)2O4. It exhibited high oxidation, high alkalinity, and a low melting point, thereby achieving excellent melting performance. Simulations of various dephosphorization fluxes in the pre-treatment of high-phosphorus hot metal, ordinary hot metal, and kilogram-scale dephosphorization experiment processes were conducted. Under the same experimental conditions, the composite calcium ferrite flux was able to achieve a dephosphorization rate of over 90% and a final phosphorus content of less than 0.02 wt% under high carbon content ([%C] = 3.2 wt%). In the application of hot metal pre-dephosphorization, this flux was able to achieve efficient melting and rapid slagging of lime at a lower temperature, and its slagging time was 50% faster than that of calcium ferrite flux. In addition, this flux enhanced the utilization efficiency of lime during the steelmaking process, effectively prevented the agglomeration of slag, and achieved efficient slag–metal separation. These characteristics were significantly better than the application effect of calcium ferrite flux. This flux has significant implications for the industrial application of deep dephosphorization in the pre-treatment stage of hot metal or the early stage of converter steelmaking. To realize the high‐efficiency utilization of iron‐rich coal, it is necessary to conduct in‐depth research on the ash fusion characteristics and regulation mechanism. In this paper, the ash fusion temperature test of iron‐rich coal in Xinjiang (ZC) under different atmospheres was first carried out. Then, red mud (HJ) from Huajin Aluminum Industry and black water pipe scale (GDG) were selected as the additives. After the same ashing procedure, the two additives were mixed with iron‐rich coal ash in different proportions to realize the regulation of the chemical composition of the coal ash to improve the ash fusion characteristic. The ash fusion temperature (AFT) experiment was carried out in the automatic ash melting point analyzer, and high‐temperature ash melting slags at different temperatures were prepared. The mineral phases of coal ash and slag were characterized by XRD and compared with the Factsage simulation calculation results to reveal the influence mechanism of coal ash fusion temperature. The result shows that the fusion temperature of ZC iron‐rich coal ash is significantly different between oxidizing atmosphere and weak reducing atmosphere. Compared with the oxidizing atmosphere, the four characteristic temperatures of ZC iron‐rich coal ash are significantly lower under weak reducing conditions, and the difference is about 150°C. The addition of red mud and pipeline scale increased the fusion temperature of ZC coal ash to varying degrees. The addition of HJ ash has little effect on the deformation temperature of ZC coal ash, while the addition of different proportions of HJ ash significantly increases the flow temperature of ZC coal ash. When the addition ratio of HJ ash is 40%, the flow temperature FT of ZC coal ash increases most obviously, which is about 50°C. The addition of HJ ash and GDG ash will lead to an increase in the content of iron‐containing spinel, thereby increasing the ash flow temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the context of "dual carbon", the aluminum smelling industry is facing enormous pressure to reduce emissions. This paper takes an electrolytic aluminum enterprise n Shanxi province as an example to calculate the carbon emissions of each ink of the enterprise in 2021 and identify the mam factors that affect the carbon emission reduction of the electrolytic aluminum industry. Using scenario analysis method to predict the adjustment of power structure, upgrading of low-carbon electrolytic aluminum technology, and application of recycled aluminum in Shanxi province from 2021 to 2030. Establish a multi factor analysis model for electrolytic aluminum carbon emissions, and explore the impact of various control variables on reducing carbon emissions per ton of aluminum for enterprises in benchmark and policy scenarios. The results show that changes in the power structure have the greatest contribution to the greenhouse gas emissions reduction of the enterprise, with emissions reductions accounting for 31. 63% of the total emissions under the 2030 baseline scenario and 40. 66% of the total emissions under the policy scenario; When coupled with changes in power structure and the proportion of recycled aluminum, the emission reduction effect Is most significant, with the emission reduction accounting for 67.82% of the total emissions in the 2030 policy scenario; Under the three coupling situation, the carbon emissions of the enterprise gradually tend to zero. The global aluminium industry faces a serious challenge in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as the demand for aluminium continues to increase. The aluminium industry has a responsibility to streamline its energy consumption, especially in the production process. There have been many studies discussing energy consumption performance in the industry. However, most of them only discuss energy saving partially, without involving energy consumption with various items produced. This paper proposes an energy savings measurement in the manufacturing industry. An energy baseline consumed per unit volume has been developed using the equivalent volume method with an energy management control system (EMCS). The study takes a case example from the automotive--aluminium component industry. The steps taken in the study are: examining the production process, converting the production volume to equivalent, calculating the energy consumption ratio, developing an energy baseline, simulating the savings performance, and then proposing an EMCS with key performance indicators (KPI) for sustainability. The results show that the development of a baseline using the ratio of energy and an equivalent volume of production gives a better data correlation with an R² value close to one. From the baseline, the bestdemonstrated performance (BDP) can be used as a reference to set energy goals. Furthermore, the data and the deviant deleted have the same baseline value. They differ in energy reduction goal percentages. The practical application of this study is not only in the manufacturing industry but in other industries as well, such as building management. Implementing green production management (GPM) practices has become increasingly vital for ensuring a sustainable future. Integrating green scientific research into the aluminum industry is imperative for achieving economic and environmental benefits. Despite being touted as a "green metal," the aluminum production process presents significant sustainability challenges. Notably, the industry contributes a substantial 3% to global carbon emissions, with the production of one metric ton of primary aluminum releasing 10-20 metric tons of CO2. Thus, reducing these emissions is critical to promoting environmental sustainability within the industry. This article meticulously examines this pressing issue and analyzes potential strategies to foster a greener aluminum production process. The paper deals with the possibilities of using alkali silicate based inorganic binders for automotive industry aluminium castings production. In recent years, inorganic binders are coming back to the foreground and their manufacturers are developing new processes, which are starting to progressively supersede organic binder systems. Paper describes known knowledge about classic alkali silicate binders with focus on hardening processes and on improving their technological properties. Trends from the area of development and the use new alkali silicate based inorganic binders are also shortly described. As part of the experimental work, specific methods of producing samples were developed, with the help of which properties such as disintegration were subsequently evaluated by measuring abrasion and residual strengths. Characteristics such as residual compressive strength or shear strength at different thermal loads were also evaluated. When comparing the laboratory results with the results of de-coring in real conditions, a high degree of correlation was achieved, which makes it possible to determine the optimal recipe/procedure for the production of geometrically complex cores. Decarbonisation of the Nordic power sector entails substantial variable renewable energy (VRE) adoption. While Nordic hydropower reservoirs can mitigate VRE output's intermittency, strategic hydro producers may leverage increased flexibility requirements to exert market power. Using a Nash-Cournot model, we find that even the current Nordic power system could yield modest gains from strategic reservoir operations regardless of a prohibition on 'spilling' water to increase prices. Instead, strategic hydro producers could shift generation from peak to offpeak seasons. Such temporal arbitrage becomes more attractive under a climate package with a [euro] 100/t C[O.sub.2] price and doubled VRE capacity. Since the package increases generation variability, lowers average prices, and makes fossil-fuelled plants unprofitable, strategic hydro producers face lower opportunity costs in shifting output from peak to off-peak seasons and encounter muted responses from price-taking fossil-fuelled plants. Hence, a climate package that curtails C[O.sub.2] emissions may also bolster strategic hydro producers' leverage. One of the most important parts used in various industries is the pipe, whose inner surface can be exposed to wear (especially sliding wear). In this study, increasing the wear resistance of the inner surface of the Al-15 Mg2Si composite tube, which is a suitable alternative to the most widely used aluminum alloy in the industry, (Al-Si alloy) has been investigated by optimizing the thermal parameters. In this study, the simultaneous effects of pouring temperature, solutionizing temperature, aging temperature, mold preheating temperature, wear force, and wear temperature on the sliding wear resistance of the inner surface of the above tube made by the centrifugal casting method was studied, and the results using Design Expert software were analyzed. The most effective parameter on the wear resistance of the above alloy was the dissolution temperature; the best temperature was 570 °C. The effect of aging temperature was found to be insignificant. The best pouring temperature was determined in the range of 750–700 °C, and the suitable temperature for preheating the mold was determined to be 300 °C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increased recycling in aluminum production has raised the impurity content in the industry, thus increasing its effect on mechanical characteristics and making it difficult for recycled products to meet the properties' goals as their effect is not yet sufficiently known. Therefore, the two main impurities (Fe and Si) in standard aluminum rolling mill products of alloy 5754 were investigated to determine their effects on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS). After analyzing the composition, mechanical properties, and microstructure, the relationship of both impurities with the UTS in fully annealed products was estimated by statistical analysis, obtaining a strong influence of Si and Fe. In response to increasingly demanding market conditions within the aluminium industry, the drive to reduce cost and increase productivity is an on-going challenge. This has been largely due to testing economic conditions globally and continued consolidation within the industry. Inevitably there is an increased focus on internal production costs with the associated drives to reduce scrap, increase productivity and to do both at a lower operating cost. The quality of a foundry industry can be increased by minimizing the casting defects during production. Aim of the current study is to study the production line of an aluminium alloy manufacturing industry and to improve the quality of production using quality control tools. The slabs produced faces various defects and net recovery of these slabs can be improved by Quality control tools. This study shows the systematic approach to find the root cause of major defects in aluminium castings using defect diagnostic approach as well as cause and effect diagram. Casting defect analysis is carried out using techniques like historical data analysis, cause-effect diagrams, design of experiments and root cause analysis. Using check sheets data has been collected and all the defects have been studied. Using Pareto chart major defects in the aluminium castings were noted. The major defects for the rejections during production were identified as hot tear, inclusions, cold shut and cracks. Aluminum dross (AD) has become a severe problem for the environment and public health due to the great prosperity of the aluminum industry because it contains Al, AlN, Al4C3, fluoride salts, and various metal cations. In this review, the source and characterization of AD are introduced, and the differences between primary aluminum dross (PAD) and secondary aluminum dross (SAD) are analyzed. Then, the harmless treatment and utilization of AD are studied. Relative to the mature PAD recycling industry, the treatment of SAD is still in the small-scale experimental stage. The pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical routes are discussed as SAD processing methods, and the removal rate of hazardous content of SAD can reach 90%. Based on the high removal rate, high-purity Al, Al2O3, and other products can be prepared from SAD. Certain products, such as foaming materials, refractory materials, admixtures, and aluminum hydroxide gel material can be prepared by SAD. Finally, the economic and environmental values of the treatment and utilization of SAD are discussed. The environmental and economic assessment of SAD treatment behaves well in both life cycle assessment and life cycle cost calculations. In recent years, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has developed strategies to increase renewable power generation and reduce emissions to net zero by 2050. Electricity generation and energy-intensive industries (EII) have the largest potentials for emission reduction. Therefore, an up-to-date inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and a study of the pathways to achieving the 2050 targets are essential. This study focuses on power production and EII (aluminium, steel and cement). The structure of these sectors is modelled and simulated up to 2050 using a system dynamics (SD) methodology. The SD model is validated to reflect the real-world state of the system using the emissions inventory projections as reference modes. Nineteen mitigation policies are considered in the selected sectors and four policy scenarios were simulated. The results show that implementing the Energy Strategy 2050 in the power sector can result in a reduction of 63.5% in emissions in that sector, which translates into a reduction of 33.5% overall by 2050. Additionally, implementing all identified mitigation strategies to full utilization in EII yields a 94% reduction in that sector, which translates into a 78% reduction overall. Decarbonizing the aluminium industry yields the highest emissions reductions, followed by power production, then cement and finally steel. In the best-case scenario, 22.1% of the business-as-usual emissions are still released and further decarbonization—mainly in the power sector—will be required. This is achievable given the trajectory of the UAE's successful nuclear energy programme and the prospect of utilizing carbon capture, utilization and storage even further. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates an integrated batching and scheduling problem of electrolysis and caster in aluminium industry. The problem is to determine the assignment and scheduling of orders considering sequence-dependent setup times caused by technological and operational constraints of electrolysis cells, and determine the batching and scheduling of orders in the following casters. A novel unit-specific event-based continuous-time mixed integer linear programming model (MILP) is proposed to describe the problem. In this model, the event point is stage specific, and lower bounds are specified to tighten the model. A hybrid pointer-based differential evolution algorithm with new individual representation scheme is designed to solve the problem of industrial scale. An improved hybrid pointer-based mutation operator and a new point-cross crossover operator are proposed to enhance the performance of the algorithm. Computational experiments show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient when compared with CPLEX for medium and large size instances. Azerbaijan is the main oil and gas exporting country in Eastern Europe and one of the main energy suppliers in Europe. Azerbaijan, whose economy is based on the oil industry, has recently seen a certain revival in the non-oil sector. Azerbaijan is also one of the main producers of aluminum in Eastern Europe, and there are partnerships with Europe in the development of this industry as well as in the energy sector. The development of the non-oil sector in Azerbaijan is essential for the country's economy. This sector is heavily dominated by the aluminum industry. As part of the research, an economic analysis review of the Azerbaijani aluminum industry in the non-oil sector is implemented. In 2022, $3 billion worth of non-oil sector products were exported from Azerbaijan to the global market; the aluminum industry accounted for more than 5% of this total. Azeraluminium LLC, the Caucasus region's sole primary aluminum producer, exports 98% of its products to countries around the world. The general platform and development of the Azerbaijani aluminum industry, the brief technological structure of the Ganja Aluminum Complex, and the future strategy and goals of this field have all been demonstrated in a concise scientific article. The main aim of this research is to analyze the Azerbaijani aluminum industry.

Researching the aluminum molten salt system has always been challenging because of the high temperature and significant corrosion seen in the aluminum electrolysis industry. This paper employs ab initio molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the ionic structure and transport features of the K3AlF6-2.2NaF-AlF3 molten system. The findings indicate that the primary Al-F complex ion species present in K-rich molten salts are [AlF4]−, [AlF5]2−, and [AlF6]3−. The fluorine atom located at the bridge site constitutes around 3% of the overall composition, suggesting a rather modest degree of polymerization for the ionic structure. The relative diffusion rates of the ions in the system are as follows: sodium (Na) has the highest diffusion ability, followed by potassium (K), fluoride (F), and aluminum (Al). With the increase in K3AlF6 concentration, the distribution and diffusion coefficient of complex ions in the melt change, resulting in a decrease in the transport performance of the entire system. Purpose: Futurology of the aluminum industry, as a strategic industry and one of the sustainable development pillars, is contemplated by the government strategists in order to know future against unpredictable elements. The purpose is to identify and analyze the upcoming scenarios of the aluminum industry and, finally, its market analysis, to draw a correct vision of the future and choose the appropriate strategy in this industry. Methodology: Firstly, the key variables affecting the development of the aluminum industry are identified through interviews with experts and specialists in the industry, and the probability of variables is determined by completing a questionnaire; and then based on the extracted variables, specific scenarios are developed. The interactions of the variables will be determined using the fuzzy DEMATEL method and the matrix obtained from this method will be part of the supermatrix of the analysis network process. Game theory will be used in two forms, considering competition and or cooperation among players to analyze the aluminum industry market, such that one can find balancing points among existing situations of players' strategic options and scenarios of this industry. Findings: The results indicate that the possibility of "increasing inflation" is the most likely and "increasing investment in the country" is the least likely variable, and "lifting sanctions" is the most influential variable and "production and export" is the most impressive variable. Five scenarios as "Iran's difficult scenario in the ordinary world", "Iran's catastrophic scenario in the ordinary world space", "disaster scenario for Iran in the difficult global space", "Iran's developing scenario in the ordinary world space", and "Iran's favorable space scenario in the difficult world space "were ranked. Three main players, namely policymakers, smalters and downstream, were identified and 13 strategic options in the form of investment, pricing, exports, and energy rates in different directions and shapes were extracted. Players' preferences in different scenarios are explained in the form of 12 modes and, selected modes are extracted for each scenario based on different equilibrium points. Originality/Value: Futurology has been the main subject of this paper, which, by analyzing the aluminum industry and the activities of the main players active in this industry, paints a picture of the future of this industry, including the entire value chain in a five-year horizon. The informal aluminum industry is increasingly widespread in low- and middle-income countries, especially in Indonesia. Aluminum exposure is a serious public health problem, especially among workers in the informal aluminum foundry sector. Research on aluminum (Al) is important to advance our understanding of its impact on physiological systems. Here, we investigated the effect of exposure to aluminum longitudinal histological changes on the liver and kidneys of male mice. Mice were separated into six groups (4/group): group 1, group 2, group 3 received vehicles, and group 4, group 5, group 6 were administered a single dose of Al at 200 mg/kg b.w. by intraperitoneally every 3 days for 4 weeks. Post-sacrifice, kidneys and liver were isolated for examination. While Al did not impact the body weight gain of male mice across all groups, it caused liver damage including sinusoidal dilatation, enlarged central veins, vacuolar degeneration, and pyknotic nuclei in one-month-old mice. Furthermore, atrophied glomeruli, blood-filled spaces, and disintegration of renal tubular epithelium are evident at one-month-age. By contrast, sinusoidal dilatation and enlarged central veins were found in mice two- and three-months-old, including hemorrhage in mice (two-month-old) and atrophy of glomeruli. Lastly, the kidneys of three-month-old mice displayed interstitial fibrosis and increasing mesenchyme in the glomeruli. The fluorides contained waste electrolyte (WE) from the electrolytic aluminum industry can be used as a substitution of fluorite (CaF 2) in the newly designed mold flux. In this study, the influence of B 2 O 3 on viscosity and structure of CaO–Al 2 O 3 -WE based melt was investigated. Results show that the viscosity of mold flux melt decreases with both increasing temperature and B 2 O 3 content. The apparent activation energy (E a) also reduces from 78.96 ± 1.75 to 55.26 ± 2.79 kJ/mol with the addition of B 2 O 3 from 0 to 7 wt%. The analyses of fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopies suggest that the lower symmetry of the original aluminate and silicate structure due to the insertion of [BO 4 ]-tetrahedral and [BO 3 ]-triangular, and the formation of more non-bridging oxygen (O−) and 2D structural units in the network with the addition of B 2 O 3 , deceases the viscosity and E a of the CaO–Al 2 O 3 -WE Based Melt. In recent years, the rapid development of the domestic alumina industry has greatly accelerated the consumption of high-alumina–silica-ratio bauxite resources in China. The development of an efficient and clean utilization technology applicable to low-grade bauxite in China is not only a requirement for resource and environmental protection, but also a powerful guarantee to maintain the sustainable development of China's aluminum industry. Based on this, the authors' team proposed a new process for the treatment of low-grade bauxite ore via a calcification–carbonization method from the perspective of equilibrium solid-phase reconstruction and achieved the first industrial-scale trial run on the basis of existing laboratory research. The results show that the mass fraction of Na2O in bauxite residue can be reduced to 0.95% in the treatment of typical diaspore bauxite, the A/S in the bauxite residue can be reduced to 0.85 after two-time carbonization–alumina dissolution, and the actual alumina dissolution rate can reach 81.32%. The techniques employed to manage an industrial project are based on tools that aim to achieve the objectives set by an organization. Most of these techniques consider the development of operative and predictive models. The difficulty in developing project planning models relies on estimating large sets of parameters and the need to include model sections of poorly identifiable, that increase costs and time. This work develops a hybrid forecasting model for all the phases that make up die-casting projects through a series of parameters and sub-models that contemplate the particularities of each case, thereby achieving greater precision in the forecast. The model identifies the cost and time factors that affect project planning, specifically in the die-casting industry, and intends to predict their future behaviour when certain initially given conditions are modified. To estimate the parameters of the hybrid model, several factors in the processes were considered that interact in this industry, such as primary matter costs and activities associated to the process. The considered processes that have a substantial economic impact on the implementation of the project were selected. The criteria for this selection considered identifying the relevant parts of the design and manufacturing in the diecasting industry. Process factors such as the Cost of aluminium and its related activities, whose processes will be grouped into cost and time entities to build a set of metrics that allow better control over them. The huge reserves of red mud have a significant potential source of scandium. The scandium can be recovered from red mud by direct acid leaching but the extraction yields are generally low, and the leaching efficiency of iron and silicon is higher. Therefore, the highly selective process steps (a combined sulfation-roasting-water leaching process) were studied to extract scandium from red mud, and in order to minimize costs and waste generated. This study focuses on the phase transformation mechanism and leaching behavior of Sc, Na, Al, Fe, Ti, Ca, and Si in the red mud sulfation-roasting-water leaching process. The results show that the maximum Sc leaching efficiency of 91.98% was obtained at optimum conditions: the roasted at 1023 K for 60 min, the ratio of sulfuric acid to red mud of 0.9 mL/g, the leaching temperature is 323 K, the liquid-to-solid ratio of 5 mL/g, and stirred constantly at 200 rpm leach for 2 h. While the leaching efficiencies of Ca, Na, Fe, Al, Si, and Ti are 21.05%, 93.26%, 1.21%, 9.51%, 1.42%, and 0, respectively. The sulfation-roasting-water leaching process proves to be a promising technique and commercially viable process that allows selective extraction of scandium from red mud, which may contribute to provide options for the treatment of red mud produced continuously by the aluminum industry. A Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique is a type of physical vapor deposition (PVD) technology. This research is one of a series of PVD studies aimed at determining the best PLD coating that can minimize the damage of steel pins made of SKD61 with a hardness of 48±1 HRc. The study began with the dummy blocks from SKD61 as research samples, followed by PVD-PLD with three coating materials as alternatives: Al/Cr (70:30), Al/Ti1 (50:50), and Al/Ti2 (63:37), all without active gases (N and C). The procedures used to test the research findings were FESEM, SEM, XRF, EDS, Vickers, and Rockwell Microhardness. The experiments were conducted at the BRIN Fotonic Research Center and the PT AHM Laboratory. The PLD process lasted for 10 minutes and employed an Nd: YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm, a Q-switch with a time delay of 180 s, a pulse energy of 70 mJ, and a vacuum pressure of 1.161.35 Torr. Based on the results of the coating study, an AlTi1 coating was found to be the most effective material coating. The coating consisted of amorphous particles with a size range of 10 nm to 20 nm The coating had a thickness of 23 µm, and the surface hardness was measured to be 474-523 mHv for the single-layer coating and 477-501 mHv for the multilayer coating. The materials in both single-layer and multilayer coating samples have the same hardness in ascending order: AlCr, AlTi2, AlTi1, with a Ti concentration rise from 0.7% to 3.7%. An improved prediction algorithm of the hidden semi-markov model (HSMM) is proposed to predict the remaining useful life (RUL) of aluminum reduction cells (ARC). First, the degradation process of the ARC is analyzed, and the parameters that could characterize its degradation process are determined. Second, to facilitate the prediction of HSMM, exponential distribution, in which form the dwell time in the traditional HSMM is distributed, is replaced with the Erlang distribution based on the queuing theory. Third, an improved forward recursion algorithm that introduced dwell time has not only simplified the calculation of useful life predictions but also further facilitated HSMM in the prediction of the RUL. Finally, verification is carried out using the actual data of an aluminum electrolytic industry, and the results showed that the improved HSMM performed better in the prediction and is more accurate than the existing prediction method. The disposal of red mud (RM), a waste material generated by the aluminum industry, remains a global environmental concern because of its high alkalinity and smaller particle size, which have the potential to pollute air, soil, and water. Recently, efforts have been made to develop a strategy for reusing industrial byproducts, such as RM, and turning waste into value‐added products. The use of RM as (i) a supplementary cementitious material for construction and building materials, such as cement, concrete, bricks, ceramics, and geopolymers, and (ii) a catalyst is discussed in this review. Furthermore, the physical, chemical, mineralogical, structural, and thermal properties of RM, as well as its environmental impact, are also discussed in this review. It is possible to conclude that using RM in catalysis, cement, and construction industries is the most efficient way to recycle this byproduct on a large scale. However, the low cementitious properties of RM can be attributed to a reduction in the fresh and mechanical properties of composites incorporating RM. On the other hand, RM can be used as an efficient active catalyst to synthesize organic molecules and reduce air pollution, which not only makes use of solid waste but also lowers the price of the catalyst. The review provides basic information on the characterization of RM and its suitability in various applications, paving the way for more advanced research on the sustainable disposal of RM waste. The use of the friction stir welding (FSW) process as a relatively new solid-state welding technology in the aerospace industry has pushed forward several developments in different related aspects of this strategic industry. In terms of the FSW process itself, due to the geometric limitations involved in the conventional FSW process, many variants have been required over time to suit the different types of geometries and structures, which has resulted in the development of numerous variants such as refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW), stationary shoulder friction stir welding (SSFSW), and bobbin tool friction stir welding (BTFSW). In terms of FSW machines, significant development has occurred in the new design and adaptation of the existing machining equipment through the use of their structures or the new and specially designed FSW heads. In terms of the most used materials in the aerospace industry, there has been development of new high strength-to-weight ratios such as the 3rd generation aluminum–lithium alloys that have become successfully weldable by FSW with fewer welding defects and a significant improvement in the weld quality and geometric accuracy. The purpose of this article is to summarize the state of knowledge regarding the application of the FSW process to join materials used in the aerospace industry and to identify gaps in the state of the art. This work describes the fundamental techniques and tools necessary to make soundly welded joints. Typical applications of FSW processes are surveyed, including friction stir spot welding, RFSSW, SSFSW, BTFSW, and underwater FSW. Conclusions and suggestions for future development are proposed. Siderophores are iron grabbers and are classified according to the ligands used to chelate the ferric iron. The role of siderophores is to scavenge iron and make it accessible to the cell. It has crucial applications in industries, medical, research, and environmental clean-up. In the current research work, the authors attempted to isolate and characterize a few siderophores producing bacteria from the coal samples, collected from the Bharat Aluminum Company Ltd. Chhattisgarh. The quantitative and qualitative assay for siderophores producing bacteria (SPB) was carried by Chrome Azurol Sulfonate agar test for all the ten samples and positive results were observed only in two strains, i.e., B6 and B7 when grown in iron-deficient succinate medium in an incubator shaker for 48 h at 120 rpm. The biochemical tests revealed that the B6 and B7 strains have similarities to Bacillus sp. and Vibrio sp., respectively. In this work, a collaborative strategy for the aluminum and iron industry based on red mud recycling through the hydrometallurgy method was proposed. In this method, Fe3+ and Al3+ were firstly separated from the red mud by using H2SO4 as a leaching agent, which was by-produced from the sintering process of an iron and steel industry. Multiple influence factors on the leaching process were investigated, with the H2SO4 addition amount showing the strongest influence on the leaching rates of Al and Fe. The main components of the filter residue were CaSO4, TiO2, and SiO2, which could be reused as additives in the building materials. Subsequently, the final Fe recovery product was obtained through the co-precipitation, Fe/Al separation, and Fe(OH)3 calcination. In the final product, the content of Fe2O3 reached 82.87%, and the iron grade was 58.01%, meeting the requirement being raw materials for sinter production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aluminum electrolysis industry continually and unavoidably produces hazardous solid waste in the form of carbon anode slag. Carbon anode slag poses a serious environmental pollution risk, and it must be disposed of in a harmless manner. On the other hand, it contains a few valuable resources, as well. In order for the aluminum electrolysis industry to develop in an environmentally friendly and high-quality manner, the harmless disposal of carbon anode slag and its resourceful utilization are of considerable importance. The selective comminution of carbon and cryolite particles in carbon anode slag can be effectively achieved with grinding pretreatment. However, the optimization study of grinding process parameters has yet to be investigated. Therefore, firstly, the mineralogical characteristics and existing mode of carbon anode slag from the perspective of mineralogical properties are analyzed in this study. Then, the effects of grinding time, grinding concentration, and steel ball diameter on the particle size of the ground product (γ−0.074 mm) are investigated using response surface analysis. The results showed that the effect of grinding time was the most significant, followed by grinding concentration and steel ball diameter. In addition, the performance of the multi-stage flotation process for separating the −0.074 mm ground product was analyzed. Cryolite with a purity of 93.12% and a carbon product with an ash content of 10.67% could be simultaneously obtained through multi-stage flotation. The objective of this review is to critically evaluate important aspects of aluminium dross generation, classification, properties, applications, and its commercial recycling techniques. A by-product of aluminium industry, aluminium dross is recycled by pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, and hydrothermal processes, leading to aluminium recovery and generation of valuable products. The dominance of pyrometallurgy on the industrial scale is evident, owing to the efficient metal recovery processes, namely, Rotary salt furnace (RSF) and salt-free technologies (SFT). On the laboratory research front, hydrometallurgy and hydrothermal processes emerge as promising routes of dross recycling. Production of zeolites, ion exchangers, molecular sieves, and layered double hydroxides is achieved by hydrothermal route and important aluminium-rich products, along with gases like H 2 , CH 4 , and NH 3 are produced by hydrometallurgical route. The advantages and disadvantages of each route govern the applicability of these processes. With a plethora of modern technologies emphasising on the recycling of aluminium dross, a detailed investigation of each route is vital. The recycling of dross also contributes to the judicious preservation of natural resources consumed during aluminium production. Materials applied in the aluminum processing industry commonly suffer harsh corrosion on account of the high aggressivity of molten aluminum. Fe–Cr–B alloys have shown outstanding corrosion resistance to molten aluminum due to the presence of Cr‐rich borides displaying high stability. Accordingly, three Fe–Cr–B alloys with high Cr contents (20.6, 28.7, and 36.6 wt%) were fabricated in this study. As the Cr content increased from 20.6 to 36.6 wt%, the (Cr,Fe)2B borides ultimately transformed into Cr2B borides. A corrosion test was carried out in molten aluminum at three temperatures (700°C, 750°C, and 800°C) for 4 h and the volume losses of the studied alloys were measured to estimate their corrosion resistance. The Fe–Cr–B alloy with 28.73 wt% Cr exhibited the finest corrosion resistance among the three studied Fe–Cr–B alloys on account of enhancing the corrosion resistance of the Fe matrix by solution mechanism as well as maintaining the generation of periodical layered structures in its corrosion interface. With the development of the electrolytic aluminum industry, a large number of waste cathode carbons (WCC) of electrolytic aluminum remain, which are typical harmful solid wastes and cause serious harm to the environment. The harmless treatment of WCC is extremely important. Conventional heating and steaming is a good treatment method for WCC blocks. Fluoride has good selective heating characteristics, which promote the transformation of fluoride to escape in the form of gas, and realizes the separation of carbon and fluorine in the WCC of electrolytic aluminum. The characterization of WCC under steam high-temperature calcination was compared with that under traditional high-temperature calcination and chemical leaching. Tests show that, under the condition of water vapor, the carbon layer of WCC is larger, which is more conducive to the separation of carbon and fluorine. In this paper, the effects of different temperatures, heating times, and water flow rates on the defluorination rate were studied. The results showed that, when the WCC was heated at 950°C for 3 h, and the flow rate was 3.5 g/min, the defluorination effect of cathode carbon was the best, reaching 93%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metal casting has become increasingly significant in the manufacture of industrial components. Aluminium alloys have become a typical metal casting material due to their lightweight, excellent corrosion resistance, improved mechanical properties, and excellent electrical conductivity. Grain refinement is a preferred method for improving the strength and flexibility of metallic materials by modifying the size of the grain structure using various processes. As a result, aluminium grain refinement is regarded an essential method in the aluminium processing industry. Grain refinement involves severe plastic deformation, quick solidification, and the addition of an inoculant. This paper discusses semi-solid metal processing (SSMP) research that enhances material properties using the grain refinement technique. The effect of different grain refinement techniques to the microstructure formation is also highlighted. The importance of the fine equiaxed globular microstructure in SSMP areas is explained. Spent cathode carbon (SCC) is hazardous waste from the electrolytic aluminum industry due to its high levels of soluble fluoride, while brick-fired kiln provides the clay and heating conditions needed to immobilize fluoride. However, SCC reusing is still understudied, meanwhile co-processing and resource utilization of SCC in brick-fired kiln were still not reported in the literatures in addition to a Chinese patent of the authors. Here, the effects of firing temperatures, firing time, clay doses and calcium doses on the fluoride-immobilized performance of SCC co-processing were explored in a simulated brick-firing kiln, and their mechanisms were analyzed by SEM and XRD. The results indicated that clay-added co-processing in brick-fired kiln was a preferred choice without required additional additives or operations. The leached fluoride met Chinese standards by clay-added co-processing at ≥ 800 °C/ ≥ 40 g clay/ ≥ 120 min. Clay and calcium-added co-processing in brick-fired kiln was another alternative choice with higher fluoride-immobilization rates. The leached fluoride met Chinese standard (GB5085.3–2007) by clay and calcium-added co-processing at ≥ 500 °C/ ≥ 30 min/ ≥ 5 g clay/ ≥ 0.5 g CaCO3. SEM and XRD indicated that SiO2 in clay reacted with sodium in SCC and formed vitreous analog (Na1.55Al1.55Si0.45O4) to prevent fluoride ion migration and the newly-formed k-Feldspar (K2O.Al2O3.6SiO2) may adsorb fluoride ions in clay-added co-processing. Soluble fluoride NaF in SCC were converted into water-insoluble cuspidine in clay and calcium-added co-processing, in addition to the crystalline phase conversion in clay-added co-processing. It is difficult for the commonly used Class G oil well cement to withstand the high-temperature environment of geothermal wells, and it is easy to deteriorate the mechanical properties and damage the integrity of the cement sheath. Industrial solid waste red mud can be used as supplementary cementing materials (SCMs) to improve its mechanical properties at high temperatures. In addition, compared to Class G oil well cement, high belite cement (HBC) has lower energy consumption and better mechanical properties at high temperatures. In this study, the mechanical properties of HBC as a gel material and quartz sand and red mud as SCMs were studied at high temperatures. The ratio of HBC to SCMs and the ratio of quartz sand to red mud in SCMs were optimized using the response surface method (RSM). The response surface was established using the three-level factorial design model, which fit well with the experimental data. The optimization results show that the best mass ratio of SCMs/HBC is 37.5% and that the best quality ratio of quartz sand/red mud is 9 under the curing conditions of 180 °C. However, the best mass ratio of SCMs/HBC is 49.3%, and the best quality ratio of quartz sand/red mud is 7 under 220 °C. With the addition of SCMs, the silicon-to-calcium ratio of HBC hydration products decreases, and high-temperature-stable xonotlite and tobermorite can be formed. Aluminum dross (AD) from aluminum alloy production is harmful for the environment, while it also contains valuable metal and oxides. Therefore, its comprehensive utilization in an environmental-friendly route is of great importance for the sustainable development of the aluminum industry. Therefore, a green route to comprehensively reuse AD was proposed in this paper. Effects of different processing conditions on extraction behaviors of aluminum, soluble salt and aluminum nitride (AlN) were studied. The extraction rate of aluminum can reach 96.5% with processing temperature of 750 °C, processing time of 40 min, and refining agent addition of 10 wt%. With the liquid–solid mass ratio of 10, the leaching time of 8 h, the leaching temperature of 90 °C and stirring speed of 300 rad/min, the maximum leaching rate of chlorine salt, fluorine salt and hydrolysis of AlN can reach 98.4%, 93.4% and 87.6%, respectively. The tailings after leaching treatment can be used in a variety of applications, such as the production of cement, ceramic and refractory which can be used in the chemical and metallurgical industry. Job satisfaction of the employees is a concerning issue, accelerates the productivity of any organization. Higher job satisfaction among the employees means the higher chance of profitability of the employers. An effective understanding of factors associated with job satisfaction of the employees is precious to push organizational development. This study based on the data collected from three aluminum industries inRajshahi cityofBangladesh during January 21, 2016 to March 20, 2016 to identify the determinants of job satisfaction among the employees. In this study, age, sex, education, work experience, satisfaction with salary, workplace environment and workplace management system are revealed as the determinants of job satisfaction. For instance, higher aged respondents in more likely to satisfy with job than lower aged (Odds Ratio (OR): 1.30 [0.48-3.57]). Female are more likely (OR: 1.90 [1.03-3.51]) to satisfy with their job than the male. Higher educated employees are less likely (OR: 0.97 [0.56-1.70]) to satisfy with their job than the lower educated employees. Respondents with 15 & above years of experience are more likely (OR: 1.05 [0.33-2.15]) to satisfy with their job than those have less than 5 years of experience. Satisfaction with salary (OR: 1.97 [1.14-3.41]), workplace environment (OR: 1.62 [0.59-6.51]), management system (OR: 1.24 [1.25-3.98]) are significantly associated with job satisfaction of the employees. As the first study, it provides the determinants of job satisfaction among the employees in aluminum industries in Rajshahi city of Bangladesh. Purpose: This study aims to investigate and model interrelationships between process parameters, geometrical profile characteristics and mechanical properties of industrially extruded aluminum alloys. Design/methodology/approach: Statistical design of experiments (DOE) was applied to investigate and model the effects of eight factors including extrusion ratio, stem speed, billet-preheat temperature, number of die cavities, quenching media (water/air), time and temperature of artificial aging treatment and profile nominal thickness on four mechanical properties (yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, percent elongation and hardness). Experiments were carried out at an actual extrusion plant using 8-in. diameter billets on an extrusion press with 2,200 ton capacity. Findings: Main factors and factor interactions controlling mechanical properties were identified and discussed qualitatively. Quantitative models with high prediction accuracy (in excess of 95%) were also obtained and discussed. Practical implications: The obtained results are believed to be of great importance to researchers and industrial practitioners in the aluminum extrusion industry. Originality/value: All practical and relevant parameters have been used to model all important mechanical properties in a collective manner in one study and within actual industrial setup.
