Background: Patients with depression struggle with significant emotion regulation difficulties, which adversely affect their psychological well-being and hinder recovery. Traditional therapeutic approaches often fail to adequately address these challenges, leading to a persistent gap in effective mental health care. This research seeks to address this gap by investigating the impact of emotion regulation skills training on patients with depression. Aim: To assess the difficulties in emotion regulation among patients with depression and evaluate the impact of an emotion regulation skills training intervention on those with higher levels of emotion regulation difficulties, specifically focusing on increasing the use of adaptive emotion regulation strategies and reducing the use of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. Method: A quasi-experimental research design was utilized, using three tools: a socio-demographic and Clinical Data structured interview schedule, Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale, and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Eighty patients with depression were recruited to assess those with higher levels of emotion regulation difficulties; out of those with greater difficulties, 30 patients were chosen to participate in the emotion regulation skills training intervention. Result: The 80 studied subjects' emotion regulation difficulties scores ranged from 158 to 169 (164.5 ± 3.21), and they indicated less use of adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and more use of maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies (56.07 ± 2.67). Regarding the intervention group, the overall mean score of the 30 patients' emotion regulation difficulties decreased from 167.35 ± 2.21 pre-intervention to 105.85 ± 3.33 post-intervention (p < 0.0001). Cognitive emotion regulation total scores improved markedly from 54.07 ± 1.66 to 35.2 ± 3.46 (p < 0.01). Implication: Healthcare providers should routinely assess emotion regulation difficulties in patients with depression and integrate personalized treatment plans that target individual emotion regulation difficulties. Background: The objectives of this study were to examine the association of psychiatric comorbidities and patient characteristics with treatment change and response as well as to assess the association between treatment change and healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) among adult patients with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and psychiatric comorbidities. Methods: De-identified electronic health records from the NeuroBlu Database (2002–2021) were used to select patients ≥ 18 years with ADHD who were prescribed ADHD-specific medication. The index date was set as the first prescription of ADHD medication. The outcomes were treatment change (discontinuation, switch, add-on, or drop) and HCRU (inpatient, outpatient, composite) within 12 months of follow-up. Cox proportional-hazard model was used to assess the association between clinical and demographic patient characteristics and treatment change, while generalized linear model with negative binomial distribution and log link function was used to assess the association between key risk factors linked to treatment change and HCRU rates. Results: A total of 3,387 patients with ADHD were included (ADHD only: 1,261; ADHD + major depressive disorder (MDD): 755; ADHD + anxiety disorder: 467; ADHD + mood disorder: 164). Nearly half (44.8%) of the study cohort experienced a treatment change within the 12-month follow-up period. Treatment switch and add-on were more common in patients with ADHD and comorbid MDD and anxiety disorder (switch: 18.9%; add-on: 20.5%) compared to other cohorts (range for switch: 8.5–13.6%; range for add-on: 8.9–12.1%) Survival analysis demonstrated that the probability of treatment change within 12 months from treatment initiation in the study cohort was estimated to be 42.4%. Outpatient visit rates statistically significantly increased from baseline (mean [SD] 1.03 [1.84] visits/month) to 3 months post-index (mean [SD] 1.62 [1.91] visits/month; p < 0.001), followed by a gradual decline up to 12 months post-index. Being prescribed both a stimulant and a non-stimulant at index date was statistically significantly associated with increased risk of treatment change (adjusted hazard ratio: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.13, 2.38; p = 0.01). Conclusions: This real-world study found that treatment change was common among patients with ADHD and psychiatric comorbidities. À partir de ma clinique de sujets trans, et dans la continuité des travaux d'Esther Bick concernant la seconde peau psychique et de celle de Didier Anzieu avec le Moi-Peau et les enveloppes psychiques, je propose une nouvelle hypothèse : celle d'une seconde peau et d'un Moi-peau corsets. Ainsi, les corsets psychiques empêchent (seconde peau) ou déploient (Moi-peau) selon les réappropriations psychiques de chacun. Les perspectives psychanalytiques à propos de la peau, avec leurs constitutions développementales psycho-affectives et psychosomatiques tout le long de la vie, restent en effet contemporaines, et ce, plus particulièrement des personnes trans(genres). Ma pratique de psychologue clinicien-psychothérapeute, mes réseaux (RCP-trans) et mes recherches à partir des vécus des personnes trans(genres) m'ont amené à m'interroger à propos d'une métapsychologie du corset. J'expose ici deux situations cliniques de jeunes adultes FtoM (Female to Male) lesquels sont, entre autres situations cliniques rencontrées, particulièrement à la source de cette hypothèse. Deux situations cliniques m'ont particulièrement amené à réfléchir la qualité d'une capacité dépressive authentique, ou dépressivité, que je nomme ici tristesse fluide (sadness fluid) ou fluidité de la tristesse par analogie au gender fluid, la fluidité du genre (ce qui répond à la dysphorie de genre). Sur les plans transféro-contre-transférentiels, la transphobie et la transphilie sont à interroger comme des corsetages qui fluidifient plus ou moins la relation de soins psychiques, l'empêchent ou/et la déploient. Une armature opératoire, en lien aux travaux de l'École psychosomatique de Paris (IPSO), peut s'imposer intrapsychiquement avec un tel parcours, par la complexité et la diversité des vécus, des histoires et des ressources trouvées au sein des différents environnements du sujet. Envisager les besoins thérapeutiques des sujets trans dans leurs parcours et leurs réflexions, amène à considérer les besoins de desserrer, de dénouer certains liens psychiques avec leurs conséquences psychosomatiques. Ce décorsetage favorise une fluidité réflexive, afin que le sujet puisse évoluer avec et dans un authentique Moi-peau corset où il s'appartient. I develop my hypothesis of a two different corsets, the second skin and the ego-skin corset, which respectively prevent or deploy according to the psychic reappropriations of the subjects, specially transgender subjects. My practice as a clinical psychologist-psychotherapist and my research with transgender subjects led me to wonder about a metapsychology of the corset. I expose here two clinical cases. Two cases in particular led me to think about an authentic depressive capacity that I call here sadness-fluid or fluidity of sadness by analogy to gender-fluid, the fluidity of gender. Also, I reflect on the operative armature that can impose itself throughout the transition process, by the diversity of experiences, stories, and resources found in the subject's different environments. The therapeutic needs of trans subjects in their journeys and their reflections lead us to consider the needs to loosen, to untie certain ties. Long-term data showing the benefits of endovascular thrombectomy for stroke with large infarct are scarce. The TENSION trial showed the safety and efficacy of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with ischaemic stroke and large infarct at 90 days. We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy at 12 months of endovascular thrombectomy in patients who were enrolled in the TENSION trial. TENSION was an open-label, blinded endpoint, randomised trial done at 40 hospitals across Europe and one hospital in Canada. We included patients (aged ≥18 years) with acute ischaemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and who had a large infarct, as indicated by an Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomographic Score (ASPECTS) of 3–5 on standard-of-care stroke imaging. We randomly assigned patients (1:1) to receive either endovascular thrombectomy with medical treatment or medical treatment only up to 12 h from stroke onset. The primary outcome was functional outcome across the entire range of the modified Rankin Scale at 90 days. Here, we report the prespecified 12-month follow-up analyses for functional outcome (using the simplified modified Rankin Scale questionnaire), quality of life (using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System 10-item [PROMIS-10] and EQ-5D questionnaires), post-stroke anxiety and depression (using the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 [PHQ-4]), and overall survival. Outcomes (except survival) were assessed in the intention-to-treat population; the survival analysis was based on treatment received. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT03094715 , and is completed. We enrolled patients between July 17, 2018, and Feb 21, 2023, when the trial was stopped early for efficacy. 253 patients were randomly assigned, 125 (49%) to endovascular thrombectomy and 128 (51%) to medical treatment only. Median follow-up was 8·36 months (IQR 0·02–12·00). Endovascular thrombectomy was associated with a shift in the distribution of scores on the modified Rankin Scale towards better functional outcome at 12 months (adjusted common odds ratio 2·39 [95% CI 1·47–3·90]). Endovascular thrombectomy was also associated with a better quality of life compared with medical treatment only, as reflected by median scores on the EQ-5D questionnaire index (0·7 [IQR 0·4–0·9] vs 0·4 [0·2–0·7]), median scores for health status on the EQ-5D questionnaire visual analogue scale (50 [IQR 35–70] vs 30 [5–60]), and median global physical health scores on the PROMIS-10 questionnaire (T-score 39·8 [IQR 37·4–50·8] vs 37·4 [32·4–44·9]); although there was not enough evidence to suggest a difference between groups in global mental health scores on PROMIS-10 (41·1 [IQR 36·3–48·3] vs 38·8 [31·3–44·7]) or the numbers of patients reporting anxiety (13 [22%] of 58 vs 15 [42%] of 36) and depression (18 [31%] vs 18 [50%]) on PHQ-4. Overall survival was slightly better in the endovascular thrombectomy group compared with medical treatment only (adjusted hazard ratio 0·70 [95% CI 0·50–0·99]). In patients with acute ischaemic stroke from large vessel occlusion with established large infarct, compared with medical treatment only, endovascular thrombectomy was associated at 12 months after stroke with better functional outcome, quality of life, and overall survival. These findings suggest that the benefits of endovascular thrombectomy in patients with an ischaemic stroke and a large infarct are sustained in the long term and support the use of endovascular thrombectomy in these patients. Objective: To identify profiles of demographic, clinical, and oral health impact characteristics of individuals with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Methods: Four hundred ninety-six TMD patients (260 females) and 30 young controls were included. Sociodemographic, clinical, and Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) data were gathered and analyzed by Cluster, ANOVA, and regression analyses. Results: Three clusters were identified: "Pain and depression symptoms" with participants with higher pain, depression, and OHIP-14 scores (59% females); "Chronic diseases" included older participants with current chronic diseases and medical treatment; "Healthier individuals" included younger individuals with lower chronic diseases, pain, and depression frequencies, whose OHIP-14 scores did not differ from controls (p = 0.079). OHIP-14 scores were predicted by age, pain, and depression. Conclusion: Distinct profiles of individuals with TMD were identified, emphasizing the complex interactions between coping ability, general health, and psychosocial aspects that must be monitored. Objective: To confirm the efficacy and safety of Ganyushu Granule (GYSG) in treating premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in patients with Gan (Liver) depression and qi stagnation syndrome (GDQSS) and determine its effective dosage. Methods: From June 2018 to March 2021, a total of 240 PMS women with GDQSS were included and randomly divided into 3 groups in a 1:1:1 ratio using central block randomization: high-dose GYSG group (n=78, GYSG 2 packs/time), low-dose GYSG group (n=82, GYSG and its simulant 1 pack/time), and placebo group (n=80, GYSG simulant 2 packs/time). Treatment with GYSG or placebo was given thrice daily and for up to 3 menstrual cycles. Primary outcomes were PMS diary (PMSD) score and premenstrual tension syndrome self-rating scale (PMTS). Secondary outcomes were Chinese medicine (CM) syndrome efficacy. PMSD, PMTS, and efficacy of CM were evaluated with menstrual cycles during the treatment period. Outcome indicators were analyzed after each menstrual cycle. All analyses were performed using an intention-to-treat method, and clinical safety was assessed. Results: Of the 216 patients included in the effectiveness analysis, 70, 75, and 71 patients were in the high-, low-dose GYSG, and placebo groups, respectively. From the 2nd treatment cycle, the change in PMSD scores in the high- and low-dose groups was lower than that in the placebo group (P<0.05). PMTS scores in the high-dose GYSG group after the 1st treatment cycle was lower than that in the placebo group (P<0.05), while after the 3rd treatment cycle, that in the low-dose group was lower than that in the placebo group (P<0.05). After the 2nd treatment cycle, the high-dose GYSG group had the best CM syndrome efficacy (P<0.05). No serious adverse reactions were reported. Conclusions: GYSG was safe and well-tolerated at both doses for treating PMS patients with GDQSS. High-dose GYSG might be the optimal dose for a phase III trial. Background: The use of acupuncture is related to patients' expectations, and the therapeutic interaction effect remains a topic of debate in the literature. Accordingly, it is still unclear whether acupuncture can generate positive clinical effects in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). Objective: To determine the effectiveness of acupuncture versus placebo for clinical outcomes and determine the overall effect not attributed to specific effects in patients with FM. Design: Umbrella review of systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses. Data sources and methods: An electronic search was performed in MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, CENTRAL, EMBASE, LILACS, CINAHL, PEDro, and SPORTDiscus databases from inception until December 2023. We selected studies with a clinical diagnosis of FM and that analyzed the effectiveness of acupuncture compared with a placebo. Pain intensity, functional status, fatigue, sleep quality, and depression symptoms were assessed. Effect sizes were calculated as the mean difference (MD) or standard mean difference (SMD). The quality of intervention reporting was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Results: Eleven SRs with 8399 participants were included. Compared with placebo, acupuncture was associated with reductions in pain intensity (MD = −1.13 cm, 95% CI −2.09 to −0.17, p < 0.001), physical function (SMD = −0.63, 95% CI −1.67 to 0.41, p = 0.06), sleep quality (SMD = −0.25, 95% CI −1.39 to 0.88, p = 0.06), and fatigue (SMD = 0.20, 95% CI = 0.17 to 0.22, p < 0.001). The proportion not attributable to specific effects (PCE) of acupuncture was 58% for pain intensity (PCE = 0.58, 95% CI 0.45 to 0.71), 57% for physical function (PCE = 0.57, 95% CI −0.07 to 1.20), and 69% for fatigue (PCE = 0.69, 95% CI 0.18 to 1.21). Conclusion: Acupuncture showed a statistically significant difference in decreased pain intensity and fatigue in women with FM. However, the certainty of evidence was low to very low; its effects are not clinically important, and more than 50% of the overall treatment effects were not attributed to the specific effects of acupuncture. The review included 11 studies with 8,399 participants. It found that acupuncture was slightly better than placebo at reducing pain and fatigue but did not significantly improve physical function or sleep quality. However, most of the benefits could not be specifically attributed to the acupuncture treatment itself but were likely due to other factors, such as patients' expectations. Background: Oxylipins including lipoxin A4 (LXA4) facilitate the resolution of inflammation and possess analgesic properties by inhibiting macrophage infiltration and transient receptor potential (TRP) protein expression. Yu-Xue-Bi Tablet (YXB) is a traditional Chinese patent medicine used to relieve inflammatory pain. Our previous research has shown that the analgesic effect of YXB is related to inhibiting peripheral inflammation and regulating macrophage infiltration, but the mechanism is not yet clear. The purpose of this study is to explore the mechanisms of YXB on mice models with Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA)-induced inflammatory pain from the perspective at the resolution of inflammation. Methods: Mechanical allodynia thresholds and heat hypersensitivity were measured using the Von Frey test and the hot plate test respectively. The open field test and the tail suspension test were employed to measure anxiety and depressive behaviors respectively. The expression of CD68+ and the proportion of F4/80+CD11b+ cells were measured by immunofluorescence staining and flow cytometry. The expression of transient receptor potential ankyrin 1(TRPA1) was measured by immunofluorescence staining and western blotting. Oxylipins omics analysis provided quantitative data on oxylipins in the paws, and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the levels of LXA4 there. Immunofluorescence staining was used to perform the expression of Leukotriene A4 hydroxylase (LTA4H) in the paws of mice. The impact of injecting the formyl peptide receptor 2(FPR2) antagonist WRW4 and the TRPA1 agonist AITC into the left paws was observed, focusing on the expression of mechanical allodynia thresholds, the expression of CD68+, TRPA1 in the paws, and Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the L5 spinal dorsal horn. Results: YXB elevated mechanical allodynia thresholds, alleviated heat hypersensitivity and anxiety and depressive behaviors in CFA mice. It significantly reduced the number of CD68+ and proportion of F4/80+CD11b+ within the paws, thereby decreasing macrophage infiltration. Additionally, it diminished the expression of TRPA1 in the paws and TRPV1 in the DRG, leading to an inhibition of peripheral sensitization. Through quantitative analysis, it was found that YXB could modulate DHA-derived oxylipins and LXA4. ELISA results indicated that YXB elevated the levels of LXA4 and inhibited the expression of LAT4H in the paws. Furthermore, the pro-resolution and analgesic effects of YXB were hindered after administration of the FPR2 antagonist. Compared with the AITC group, YXB showed no significant improvement in anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Conclusions: YXB can regulate the oxylipins of paws in CFA mice to promote the resolution of inflammation. Unipolar depression is a prevalent and disabling condition, often left untreated. In the outpatient setting, general practitioners fail to recognize depression in about 50% of cases mainly due to somatic comorbidities. Given the significant economic, social, and interpersonal impact of depression and its increasing prevalence, there is a need to improve its diagnosis and treatment in outpatient care. Various efforts have been made to isolate individual biological markers for depression to streamline diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. However, the intricate and dynamic interplay between neuroinflammation, metabolic abnormalities, and relevant neurobiological correlates of depression is not yet fully understood. To address this issue, we propose a naturalistic prospective study involving outpatients with unipolar depression, individuals without depression or comorbidities, and healthy controls. In addition to clinical assessments, cardiovascular parameters, metabolic factors, and inflammatory parameters are collected. For analysis we will use conventional statistics as well as machine learning algorithms. We aim to detect relevant participant subgroups by data-driven cluster algorithms and their impact on the subjects' long-term prognosis. Background: CBT is an effective treatment for depression, but access varies across the United Kingdom. Online CBT increases access. The INTERACT platform was designed to support patient engagement in CBT, enabling therapists to deliver high‐intensity CBT via typed instant messaging and allowing patients and therapists access to an integrated online library of resources during and between sessions. Methods: The INTERACT trial aimed to evaluate this integrated approach to delivering CBT for primary care patients with depression. A nested qualitative study was conducted within the trial. Interviews were conducted with 20 patients who received the intervention, 9 therapists who delivered it and 3 therapist supervisors. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Results: The combination of receiving support from a therapist and having access to integrated online CBT resources enabled patients to better manage their depression. Platform benefits included the opportunity to review transcripts to clarify how to complete homework tasks and track progress in managing their depression. The typing process allowed reflection and a focused discussion. However, less could be covered than during an in‐person session, which reduced therapists' expectations around goal setting. Patients who did not complete therapy struggled with the typing and found the CBT approach too demanding. Conclusion: Findings highlight the importance of establishing patient and therapist goals and expectations about what can be achieved in CBT mediated by typing. Some patients are comfortable communicating via typing and are motivated to utilise online resources in between sessions. Exploring the benefits and challenges of typed CBT with patients will enable them to make an informed choice about referral for this novel approach to therapy. Off-label metreleptin treatment resulted in cognitive, emotional and behavioral improvements of patients with anorexia nervosa, who presented with hypoleptinemia. We now report a case study of a 16-year-old female patient with atypical anorexia nervosa who was treated off-label with metreleptin for 11 days. She had lost 21 kg over 6 months. Her body mass index at referral for inpatient treatment was 20 kg/m2, her serum leptin level was just within the normal range (2.4 ng/ml). Dosing resulted in prominent improvements of mood and weight phobia entailing a comparatively brief inpatient treatment. The observed improvements are similar to those observed in patients with AN, suggesting overlapping mechanisms with respect to clinical effects induced by elevations of absolute or relative hypoleptinemia. Despite growing interest in estimating individualized treatment rules, little attention has been given the binary outcome setting. Estimation is challenging with nonlinear link functions, especially when variable selection is needed. We use a new computational approach to solve a recently proposed doubly robust regularized estimating equation to accomplish this difficult task in a case study of depression treatment. We demonstrate an application of this new approach in combination with a weighted and penalized estimating equation to this challenging binary outcome setting. We demonstrate the double robustness of the method and its effectiveness for variable selection. he objective of this review is to assess the potential inclusion of animal-assisted therapy practices in the treatment of depression. Given the documented rise in the incidence of depression in recent years, there is a recognized significance in exploring innovative approaches to depression treatments. While previous studies and systematic reviews have investigated animal-assisted therapy in general or in relation to topics like anxiety, no specific study detailing the impact of animal-assisted therapy practices on depression treatment was identified. Consequently, this review was undertaken to fill this gap. The review focused on studies conducted between 2011 and 2022, evaluating a total of 6 randomized controlled studies. The findings from these studies suggest that integrating animal-assisted therapy practices into the depression treatment process can yield positive effects. Despite the observed benefits, it is important to note that systematic application of animal-assisted therapy reveals certain deficiencies. Therefore, there is a recognized need for additional studies to address and refine the systematic implementation of animal-assisted therapy in the context of treating depression. Background: Inflammatory arthritis refers to a group of diseases that have a common presentation of joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation. Meanwhile, major depressive disorder is a mental health disorder characterized by anhedonia and low mood. Inflammatory arthritis patients have high rates of major depressive disorder, estimated at being up to 38.8%. Depression leads to a significant reduction in patient's health-related quality of life, treatment adherence, and many other measures of health, both subjective and clinical. Purpose: This literature review explores the effect that depression has on treatment response for the drugs used in inflammatory arthritis. Methods: A systematic search using PubMed was conducted identifying articles which were each reviewed for relevance and eligibility. Results: Depression was negatively associated with treatment response to all classes of drugs used to manage inflammatory arthritis, with an increased disease activity and/or number of swollen/tender joints, as well as a reduced rate of remission being recorded for patients with depression compared to those without. However, this effect on treatment response was less clear when conventional synthetic Disease Modifying Anti-rheumatic Drugs were studied, possibly because their anti-inflammatory effects have wide impacts on the whole immune system, whereas biologic Disease Modifying Anti-rheumatic Drugs have very specific targets. * OBJECTIVE: To ascertain whether manipulating contextual effects (eg, interaction with patients, or beliefs about treatments) boosted the outcomes of nonpharmacological and nonsurgical treatments for chronic primary musculoskeletal pain. * DESIGN: Systematic review of randomized controlled trials * DATA SOURCES: We searched for trials in 6 databases, citation tracking, and clinical trials registers. We included trials that compared treatments with enhanced contextual effects with the same treatments without enhancement in adults with chronic primary musculoskeletal pain. * DATA SYNTHESIS: The outcomes of interest were pain intensity, physical functioning, global ratings of improvement, quality of life, depression, anxiety, and sleep. We evaluated risk of bias and certainty of the evidence using Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2.0 and the GRADE approach, respectively. * RESULTS: Of 17 637 records, we included 10 trials with 990 participants and identified 5 ongoing trials. The treatments were acupuncture, education, exercise training, and physical therapy. The contextual effects that were improved in the enhanced treatments were patient-practitioner relationship, patient beliefs and characteristics, therapeutic setting/environment, and treatment characteristics. Our analysis showed that improving contextual effects in nonpharmacological and nonsurgical treatments may not make much difference on pain intensity (mean difference [MD], -1.77; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -8.71, 5.16; k = 7 trials; N = 719 participants; Scale: 0-100; GRADE: Low) or physical functioning (MD, -0.27; 95% CI: -1.02, 0.49; 95% prediction interval [PI]: -2.04, 1.51; k = 6; N = 567; Scale: 0-10; GRADE: Low) in the short term and at later followups. Sensitivity analyses revealed similar findings. * CONCLUSION: While evidence gaps exist, per current evidence, it may not be possible to achieve meaningful benefit for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain by manipulating the context of nonpharmacological and nonsurgical treatments. Depression and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are substantial public health concerns. In the past decades, a link between the 2 disease entities has received extensive acknowledgment, yet the complex nature of this relationship demands further clarification. Some evidence indicates that midlife depression may be an AD risk factor, while a chronic course of depression in late life may be a precursor to or symptom of dementia. Recently, multiple pathophysiological mechanisms have been proposed to underlie the bidirectional relationship between depression and AD, including genetic predisposition, immune dysregulation, accumulation of AD-related biomarkers (e.g., amyloid-β and tau), and alterations in brain structure. Accordingly, numerous therapeutic approaches, such as pharmacology treatments, psychotherapy, and lifestyle interventions, have been suggested as potential means of interfering with these pathways. However, the current literature on this topic remains fragmented and lacks a comprehensive review characterizing the association between depression and AD. In this review, we aim to address these gaps by providing an overview of the co-occurrence and temporal relationship between depression and AD, as well as exploring their underlying mechanisms. Women Living with HIV (WLHIV) who use substances face stigma related to HIV and substance use (SU). The relationship between the intersection of these stigmas and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), as well as the underlying mechanisms, remains poorly understood. This study aimed to examine the association between intersectional HIV and SU stigma and ART adherence, while also exploring the potential role of depression and fear of negative evaluation (FNE) by other people in explaining this association. We analyzed data from 409 WLHIV collected between April 2016 and April 2017, Using Multidimensional Latent Class Item Response Theory analysis. We identified five subgroups (i.e., latent classes [C]) of WLHIV with different combinations of experienced SU and HIV stigma levels: (C1) low HIV and SU stigma; (C2) moderate SU stigma; (C3) higher HIV and lower SU stigma; (C4) moderate HIV and high SU stigma; and (C5) high HIV and moderate SU stigma. Medication adherence differed significantly among these classes. Women in the class with moderate HIV and high SU stigma had lower adherence than other classes. A serial mediation analysis suggested that FNE and depression symptoms are mechanisms that contribute to explaining the differences in ART adherence among WLHIV who experience different combinations of intersectional HIV and SU stigma. We suggest that FNE is a key intervention target to attenuate the effect of intersectional stigma on depression symptoms and ART adherence, and ultimately improve health outcomes among WLHIV. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological condition characterized by the disruption of both motor and non-motor functions. Given the absence of a definitive diagnostic method, it is crucial to uncover its root causes. Consequently, individuals displaying symptoms of Parkinson's disease can promptly receive treatment and comprehensive care. To address this, our study aims to develop an AI-powered system capable of detecting Parkinson's disease and subsequently evaluating the primary factors influencing its development. We collected 12 distinct datasets from the well-known PPMI database, covering various medical assessments such as motor abilities, olfaction, cognition, sleep patterns, and depressive symptoms. Subsequently, we refined this raw data using advanced search techniques to tailor it to our model's requirements. Moreover, we introduced a novel labeling approach known as the majority voting algorithm. Following data preparation, we conducted Single and Multi-Modality analyses, focusing on single-treatment approaches and integrating multiple treatments for a comprehensive therapeutic strategy. To analyze these both, we employed five distinct Machine Learning algorithms. Notably, the Support Vector Machine (linear) emerged as the top performer, reaching an accuracy of 100% in both single and multimodality analysis. Furthermore, we employed four tree-based models for feature selection, with the Gradient Boosted Decision Tree excels in identifying the most significant features. Objectives: This randomized controlled trial compared the efficacy and tolerability of danzhixiaoyao pills in the accurate treatment of patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS). Method: Collect a total of 78 patients (75 female patients and 3 male patients) from the oral mucosa department who were considered eligible fromOctober 2020 to October 2022.The patients were randomized and divided into trial group and control group.The trail group received danzhixiaoyao pills and mecobalamine tablets while the control group was given mecobalamine tablets.The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome integral and adverse reactions were performed at baseline and after 2, 4, and 6 weeks of treatment. Descriptive statistics, including the Wilcoxon rank-sum test and the Chi-square test for median comparisons between different times, were used. Result: 1.After treatment, the VAS, BDI,OHIP-14, and TCM syndrome integral in the trial group had a significant decrease than the control group(P< 0.05).However, there was no statistical difference in the BAI scores between the two groups (P> 0.05). 2.According to the efficacy determination criteria , the total effective rate of the test group was 73.68% , the control group was 52.94% and the recurrence rate was 0. There was a significant difference between the two groups (Z=-2.688, P < 0.05). The results showed that the curative effect of test group was better than that of control group.3. No adverse effects occurred in patients in either group. Conclusion: Danzhixiaoyao pills has demonstrated to have a positive effect in relieving BMS symptoms and in improving a patient's overall quality of life with no AEs compared with the control group. The efficacy evaluation systems that can be verified and complementary in this study provide a perfect, effective and referential evaluation system for the use of Chinese patent medicine in the treatment of oral mucosal diseases. Introduction: Females of reproductive age (FoRA; 15–49 years) are the demographic most likely to be diagnosed with a substance use disorder. Preventative treatment prior to or during pregnancy is critical. Stigma and social inequities can delay access to care. There is limited research examining social determinants of health (SDoH) and how they are related to substance use and treatment seeking in this demographic. Methods: We analyzed the 2016–2019 data from the United States National Survey on Drug Use and Health using multivariable logistic regression models. Statistically significant variables were conceptually linked to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion's (ODPHP's) SDoH framework's five domains. Results: From a total sample of 1,477,336 (weighted) pregnant people and 39,600,523 (weighted) FoRA, substance use was reported by 879,209 (2.14% [95% confidence interval = 2.13–2.15]). Pregnancy status was not associated with substance use or treatment seeking. Past-month substance use was associated with high educational attainment, an annual income <$20,000, a history of criminality, low religiosity, and having health insurance. Past-month treatment-seeking behavior was associated with older age, an annual income >$20,000, a history of criminality, and greater religiosity. Behavioral health support seeking in the past month was associated with some college education. Higher depression severity was associated with all the three models. Conclusions: Using the ODPHP's SDoH framework, we begin to elicit critical connections that can describe substance use and treatment-seeking practices in FoRA. Background: HIV-related stigma is a major social challenge for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA). It can forsake the programmes related to HIV due to compromise in early diagnosis & treatment. It is necessary to understand the perceptions of HIV about care and treatment in PLHA in order to work towards a more patient-centred care. Aim & Objective: To explore the perception of care & treatment along with the other life experiences in PLHA. Methodology: This is Qualitative exploratory study prepared by study of semi-structured in-depth interviews of different individuals through thematic analysis, at the Antiretroviral therapy (ART) centre of Nehru Hospital, BRD Medical College Gorakhpur. Result: Themes emerged were: 1) Negative reactions to HIV positive results; 2) Social support was highly valued by PLHA in improving their quality of life; 3) PLHA experiences various stigma throughout their life; 4) Health staff behaviour was good but they felt the need of better arrangements for their treatment; 5) Refusal by Private Hospitals to treat HIV cases. Conclusion: Awareness campaigns & regular counselling of the individual shall be effective for PLHA on a routine basis. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Guanxin Danshen Dripping Pill (GXDSDP) in treating anxiety and depression in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). Methods: A total of 1,428 patients diagnosed with CHD screened for anxiety, depression, and quality of life (QOL) at baseline received 0.4 g of GXDSDP treatment 3 times per day and returned for monthly reassessment. Patients were recruited after stable treatment for CHD and received assessment of General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) for evaluating anxiety, depression, and QOL. Patients were followed up 3 times, once every 4 weeks, during outpatient visits for 12 weeks. Results: At the third follow-up (F3), the anxiety symptom of 63.79% (673/1,055) of the patients improved to sub-clinical level, and the GAD-7 score improved significantly (8.11 vs. 3.87, P<0.01); 57.52% (585/1,017) patients' depressive symptoms improved to sub-clinical level, with a significant improvement in PHQ-9 score (8.69 vs. 4.41, P<0.01) at F3. All aspects of QOL significantly improved at the end of treatment compared to those at baseline (all P<0.01) as assessed by SAQ: physical limitation (31.17 vs. 34.14), anginal stability (2.74 vs. 4.14), anginal frequency (8.16 vs. 9.10), treatment satisfaction (13.43 vs. 16.29), and disease perception (8.69 vs. 11.02). Background: Rosacea is a common facial dermatological disease characterized by central erythema and flushing. It is more common in females than males, with a prevalence of approximately 5.5% in the global population and 2.4% among all dermatological outpatients. In 2002, the National Rosacea Society Expert Committee suggested a subtype-based standardized classification system. The most common subtype of rosacea is erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ETR), followed by papulopustular rosacea (PPR), phymatous rosacea, and ocular rosacea. Current Concepts: Rosacea is characterized by hyperactive innate and neurovascular immune reactions, which lead to altered adaptive immune reactions and hyperreactive inflammation. In 2017, the National Rosacea Society Expert Committee developed a phenotype-based classification system. The diagnostic features include persistent centrofacial erythema and phymatous changes. ETR is associated with sensitive skin and may have a debilitating psychological impact, often leading to psychological conditions such as depression and anxiety. Doxycycline and minocycline are considered the gold-standard oral treatments for rosacea. Topical ivermectin and metronidazole are commonly used to treat PPR. Low-dose isotretinoin is an alternative to avoid long-term chronic antibiotic use. Carvedilol and propranolol are off-label medications used to reduce persistent facial flushing and erythema in rosacea. Some alpha-adrenergic receptor agonists have also been approved for the treatment of persistent erythema in rosacea. Discussion and Conclusion: Rosacea exhibits multiple phenotypic manifestations. The treatment approach is individualized for each patient through the customization of multimodal treatments, including the avoidance of trigger factors and the assessment of comorbid diseases. Background: Ketamine, an emerging pharmacotherapeutic agent for depression, has demonstrated rapid and substantial improvement in mood and suicidal ideation, particularly in severe cases. While previous studies have established its efficacy, the current study aims to delve into the effectiveness of intravenous ketamine in treating severe depression. Methods: An open-label prospective study enrolled 49 consecutive patients with severe depression. Baseline assessments using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), and Modified Scale for Suicidal Ideation (MSSI) were conducted. Intravenous (IV) ketamine, administered at 0.5 mg/kg in 100-ml normal saline over 40 min, was given during sessions spaced on alternate days. Each patient received at least five sessions alongside their regular antidepressants. Close monitoring occurred during the infusion, and disease rating scale scores were recorded. Data was analyzed; employed paired Student t-test and graphical were used for visual clarity. Results: Following the initiation of IV ketamine, a significant reduction in scores was observed from baseline. Response rates were achieved in over half of the patients by the third session and in nearly all by the end of fifth session. Remission rates were attained in nearly half of the patients by the fourth session and in almost all by the fifth session. Conclusions: IV ketamine could be considered as an adjunct to antidepressants in treating severe depression especially among those with suicidal ideations to obtain rapid improvement. Background: Suicide stands as both a primary symptom and the direst outcome of major depressive disorder (MDD). The scarcity of effective treatment strategies makes managing MDD patients with suicide especially challenging. Hence, it is crucial to investigate disease characteristics and efficacious therapeutic strategies for these patients, drawing insights from disease databases and real-world data. Methods: In this retrospective study, MDD patients hospitalized between January 2013 and December 2020 were investigated using Electronic Health Records (EHR) data from Beijing Anding Hospital. The study enrolled 4138 MDD patients with suicidal ideation or behavior (MDS) and 3848 without (MDNS). Demographic data, clinical attributes, treatment approaches, disease burden, and re-hospitalization within one year of discharge were extracted and compared. Results: Patients in the MDS group were predominantly younger and female, exhibiting a higher prevalence of alcohol consumption, experiencing frequent life stress events, and having an earlier onset age. Re-hospitalizations within six months post-discharge in the MDS group were significantly higher than in the MDNS group (11.36% vs. 8.91%, p < 0.001). Moreover, a more considerable fraction of MDS patients underwent combined electroconvulsive therapy treatment (56.72% vs. 43.71%, p < 0.001). Approximately 38% of patients in both groups were prescribed two or more therapeutic regimes, and over 90% used antidepressants, either alone or combined. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) were the predominant choice in both groups. Furthermore, antidepressants were often prescribed with antipsychotics or mood stabilizers. When medication alterations were necessary, the favoured options involved combination with antipsychotics or transitioning to alternative antidepressants. Yet, in the MDS group, following these initial modifications, the addition of mood stabilizers tended to be the more prioritized alternative. Conclusions: MDD patients with suicidal ideation or behaviour displayed distinctive demographic and clinical features. Background: The microbiota–gut–brain axis (MGBA) allows bidirectional crosstalk between the brain and gut microbiota (GM) and is believed to contribute to regulating mood/cognition/behaviour/metabolism/health and homeostasis. Manipulation of GM through faecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a new, exciting and promising treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD). Aims: This mini-review examines current research into GM and FMT as a therapy for depression. Methods: Original research articles published in Medline/Cochrane Library/PubMed/EMBASE/PsycINFO databases/National Institute of Health website Clinicaltrials.gov/controlled-trials.com were searched. Full articles included in reference lists were evaluated. We summarise current data on GM and depression and discuss communication through the MGBA and the interaction of antidepressants and GM through this. We review compositions of dysbiosis in depressed cohorts, focusing on future directions in the treatment of MDD. Results: Studies have demonstrated significant gut dysbiosis in depressed patients compared to healthy cohorts, with overgrowth of pro-inflammatory microbiota, reduction in anti-inflammatory species and reduced overall stability and taxonomic richness. FMT allows the introduction of healthy microbiota into the gastrointestinal tract, facilitating the restoration of eubiosis. Conclusion: The GM plays an integral role in human health and disease through its communication with the rest of the body via the MGBA. FMT may provide a means to transfer the healthy phenotype into the recipient and this concept in humans is attracting enormous attention as a prospective treatment for psychopathologies, such as MDD, in the future. It may be possible to manipulate the GM in a number of ways, but further research is needed to determine the exact likelihood and profiles involved in the development and amelioration of MDD in humans, as well as the long-term effects and potential risks of this procedure. Objective: We evaluated the presence and impact of unblinding during the influential Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00006286). Method: Our analysis was part of a Restoring Invisible and Abandoned Trials reanalysis. Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study trialled fluoxetine, placebo, cognitive behaviour therapy or their combination, in treating adolescents with major depressive disorder. We analysed the accuracy of guesses of fluoxetine or placebo allocation, and their effects on change in Children's Depression Rating Scale-Revised at 12 weeks. Results: Of 221 participants allocated to fluoxetine or placebo, 151 adolescents (68%) had their guess about pill-treatment-arm allocation recorded at week 6, and guesses were recorded for 154 independent evaluators, 159 parents and 164 pharmacotherapists. All of these groups guessed treatment allocation more accurately than would be expected by chance (60–66% accuracy; all p -values ⩽ 0.004). Guesses did not become more accurate between 6 and 12 weeks and were not predicted by adverse events, though event documentation was poor. Treatment guess had a substantial and statistically significant effect on outcome (Children's Depression Rating Scale-Revised change mean difference 9.12 [4.69; 13.55], β = 0.334, p < 0.001), but actual treatment arm did not (1.53 [−2.83; 5.89], β = 0.056, p = 0.489). Removing guess from the analysis increased the apparent effect of treatment arm, making it almost statistically significant at the conventional alpha-level of 0.05 (p = 0.06). Conclusions: For Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study, treatment guesses strongly predicted outcomes and may have led to the exaggeration of drug effectiveness in the absence of actual effects. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential effectiveness of several mainstream therapies, including phototherapy, antidepressants, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and negative ion generators, in the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and WOS databases was conducted from January 1975 to December 3, 2022. Randomized controlled trials meeting predefined selection criteria for the treatment of SAD using mainstream therapeutic approaches were identified. After reviewing abstracts, data were synthesized and categorized based on the type of intervention and the targeted disorder. A total of 21 randomized controlled trials, involving 1037 participants, were included. The standardized mean difference of depression scores and corresponding 95 % confidence intervals were calculated to assess the efficacy of phototherapy for Seasonal Affective Disorder. The meta-analysis revealed that phototherapy was significantly more effective than other intervention groups or control therapies, with an effect size of 4.64(2.38,7.03). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that no factors could explain the significant heterogeneity observed. Phototherapy exhibited statistically significant mild to moderate therapeutic effects in alleviating depressive symptoms and can be considered as a clinical therapy for treating Seasonal Affective Disorder. However, the quality of evidence remains low, and further well-designed, larger sample size, and high-quality studies are needed to confirm the efficacy of phototherapy in treating Seasonal Affective Disorder. In conclusion, our systematic review and meta-analysis indicate that bright light therapy is a promising first-line non-pharmacological treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), showing significant improvement in mood symptoms compared to placebo. The findings support the use of bright light therapy as an effective and well-tolerated intervention for SAD. However, further large-scale, multicenter randomized controlled trials with long-term follow-up are needed to assess the long-term efficacy and safety of different treatment approaches for SAD. • Light therapy showed mild to moderate effects in alleviating depressive symptoms and can be considered a clinical therapy for SAD. • Bright light therapy had superior effects compared to other interventions and placebo controls based on depression rating scale scores. To determine gender disparities and potential factors that modify prosthesis prescription practices in veteran patients who have undergone their first major unilateral amputation due to diabetes or peripheral arterial disease. A retrospective cohort study using the VA Corporate Data Warehouse to compare prosthesis prescription rates and time to prescription between men and women veterans. The primary exposure was gender. The primary outcome was a qualifying prosthesis prescription within 12 months of the incident amputation. The secondary outcome was time to prosthesis prescription. Multiple logistic and linear regression was used to control for potential confounders and identify potential effect modification. 2,862 individuals met study criteria, with 1690 (60%) prescribed a qualifying prosthesis. Men were more likely to receive a prosthesis prescription than women (59% versus 45%, respectively; p = 0.03). This difference was observed primarily among those with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder. In this subgroup, the odds of men receiving a prosthesis over women was over 3 times (adjusted odds ratio = 3.3; 95% Confidence Interval, 1.5, 7.4). Men had a mean shorter time to prescription compared to women (112 ± 72 versus 136 ± 79 days, respectively, p = 0.08). Depression in women negatively impacts their prosthesis prescription rates and time to prescription compared to men. This disparity may have significant impacts on future function and quality of life. This study found that men more commonly received a prosthesis prescription and received it earlier than women. This disparity was most extreme among women who had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Providers should identify at risk patients early and consider targeted interventions to address depression during the preoperative and immediate postoperative phases. Background: To discover pharmacotherapy prescription patterns and their statistical associations with outcomes through a clinical pathway inference framework applied to real-world data. Methods: We apply machine learning steps in our framework using a 2006 to 2020 cohort of veterans with major depressive disorder (MDD). Outpatient antidepressant pharmacy fills, dispensed inpatient antidepressant medications, emergency department visits, self-harm, and all-cause mortality data were extracted from the Department of Veterans Affairs Corporate Data Warehouse. Results: Our MDD cohort consisted of 252,179 individuals. During the study period there were 98,417 emergency department visits, 1,016 cases of self-harm, and 1,507 deaths from all causes. The top ten prescription patterns accounted for 69.3% of the data for individuals starting antidepressants at the fluoxetine equivalent of 20-39 mg. Additionally, we found associations between outcomes and dosage change. Conclusions: For 252,179 Veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with subsequent MDD noted in their electronic medical records, we documented and described the major pharmacotherapy prescription patterns implemented by Veterans Health Administration providers. Ten patterns accounted for almost 70% of the data. Associations between antidepressant usage and outcomes in observational data may be confounded. The low numbers of adverse events, especially those associated with all-cause mortality, make our calculations imprecise. Furthermore, our outcomes are also indications for both disease and treatment. Despite these limitations, we demonstrate the usefulness of our framework in providing operational insight into clinical practice, and our results underscore the need for increased monitoring during critical points of treatment. Background There is a lack of studies on the course and effectiveness of medical cannabis in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods Retrospective longitudinal (18 weeks) study of n=59 outpatients with MDD, treated with medical cannabis via a telemedical platform. Previous treatment with antidepressant medication was required for inclusion into the study. Standardized data collection was carried out at entry and during monthly consultations. Severity of depression was measured on a 0–10 point rating scale. Side-effects were assessed by a checklist. Results Patients were 20–54 years old; 72.9% were male; one third reported times of regular cannabis consumption within the previous five years. Drop-out rate was 22% after 18 weeks. Mean severity of depression decreased from 6.9 points (SD 1.5) at entry to 3.8 points (2.7) at week 18 (baseline observation carried forward; 95% CI for the mean difference: 2.4 to 3.8; p<0.001). A treatment response (>50% reduction of the initial score) was seen in 50.8% at week 18. One third of patients complained about side effects, none was considered as severe. Concomitant antidepressant medication (31% of patients) was not associated with outcome. Conclusions Medical cannabis was well tolerated and dropout rate was comparable to those in clinical trials of antidepressant medication. Patients reported a clinically significant reduction of depression severity. Further research on the effectiveness of medical cannabis for MDD seems warranted. The neurophysiological mechanisms underlying generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) with or without depressive symptoms are obscure. This study aimed to uncover them and assess their predictive value for treatment response. We enrolled 98 GAD patients [58 (age: 33.22 ± 10.23 years old, males/females: 25/33) with and 40 (age: 33.65 ± 10.49 years old, males/females: 14/26) without depressive symptoms] and 54 healthy controls (HCs, age: 32.28 ± 10.56 years old, males/females: 21/33). Patients underwent clinical assessments and resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) at baseline and after 4-week treatment with paroxetine, while HCs underwent rs-fMRI at baseline only. Regional homogeneity (ReHo) was employed to measure intrinsic brain activity. We compared ReHo in patients to HCs and examined changes in ReHo within the patient groups after treatment. Support vector regression (SVR) analyses were conducted separately for each patient group to predict the patients' treatment response. Both patient groups exhibited higher ReHo in the middle/superior frontal gyrus decreased ReHo in different brain regions compared to HCs. Furthermore, differences in ReHo were detected between the two patient groups. After treatment, the patient groups displayed distinct ReHo change patterns. By utilizing SVR based on baseline abnormal ReHo, we effectively predicted treatment response of patients (p -value for correlation < 0.05). The dropout rate was relatively high. This study identified shared and unique neural substrates in GAD patients with or without depressive symptoms, potentially serving as biomarkers for treatment response prediction. This case report describes a therapeutic approach that was used with an Egyptian female client who sought treatment for persistent depressive disorder at an outpatient clinic in Cairo, Egypt. This approach was based on an integration of schema therapy, which examined the developmental origins of early maladaptive schemas acquired by individuals with depression, with Kleinman's cultural explanatory model, which emphasized the cultural meaning given to the cause, severity, and prognosis of this disorder. As shown in the case report, early maladaptive schemas adopted by the client were understood in their cultural and religious contexts, and this cultural understanding enhanced therapeutic connection and effectiveness. Background: Even though current therapeutic approaches have significantly increased the longevity and standard of living for children suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF), the crucial psychological components of this illness have not received the same level of attention as other chronic illnesses. The aim of the research was to assess depression, anxiety, and hopelessness in cystic fibrosis-affected children and their relation to the duration of illness. In this study, we compared 40 healthy control children between the ages of 7 and 12 with 40 cystic fibrosis children who were matched for age and sex. All patients had detailed clinical and psychometric evaluations using the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), the Anxiety Scale for Children (ASC), and the Hopelessness Scale for Children (HSC). Results: The CDI, ASC, and HSC revealed a significant difference between both groups. Positive correlations between depression, anxiety, and hopelessness and disease duration were found. Conclusions: Patients with CF experienced significantly increased depression, anxiety, and hopelessness, and there is an association between these symptoms and the duration of the illness. College students represent a large portion of the population, and report high rates of cannabis use and related negative outcomes, including interpersonal problems, risky behaviors, or physical dependency. The contexts in which students use cannabis (e.g., at a party, when feeling down or depressed, after a fight with a loved one) likely affect their risk of experiencing consequences. We aimed to discern profiles of cannabis use contexts and compare profiles on use frequency, consequences, and the use of cannabis protective behavioral strategies (PBS). College students were surveyed regarding their cannabis use contexts, frequency, consequences, and PBS use (n = 265; female = 72.8%). We used Latent Profile Analysis to identify patterns of cannabis use contexts and auxiliary testing to compare profiles on use frequency, consequences, and PBS use. Our examination revealed three latent profiles of cannabis use. The Social Use Profile was associated with use in predominantly social/uplifting contexts. The Physical & Emotional Pain Profile was also associated with use in these contexts but was defined by additional use in response to pain. The All Contexts Profile was associated with frequent use in all contexts, including those that were least endorsed by the other profiles. Profiles differed in cannabis use frequency, PBS use, and the number of consequences experienced, such that profiles were more likely to be associated with more frequent cannabis use, higher risk of experiencing use-consequences, and using fewer PBS as the number of use contexts increased across the profiles. The contexts in which people use cannabis are associated with cannabis risk and protection. Prevention and intervention efforts may benefit from considering contexts of cannabis use. Anhedonia is a significant predictor of disease progression and treatment outcomes in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), linked to reward network dysfunctions. However, understanding of its underlying neural mechanisms remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the brain functional mechanisms underlying MDD with anhedonia using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). The Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS) was used to evaluation MDD with anhedonia (anMDD) and non-anhedonia MDD (non-anMDD). Forty-eight patients with anMDD, Forty-four patients with non-anMDD, and Fifty healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled for the fMRI scans. A seed-based functional connectivity (FC) method was employed to explore reward network abnormalities. anMDD patients exhibited lower FC values in Ventral Striatum (VS), right lateral Ventral Tegmental Area (VTA_R), left Thalamus (THA_L), and higher FC values in Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex (vmPFC), left Anterior Insula (AI_L), and Presupplementary Motor Area (Pre-SMA) compared to HCs. Comparing anMDD to non-anMDD, significant differences were observed in FC values of VS, vmPFC, Pre-SMA, and THA_L regions. Correlation analysis revealed positive correlations between FC values of VS_R and NAc_R, as well as THA_L and Cerebellum_Crus1_L, with SHAPS scores. Negative correlations were observed between FC values of Pre-SMA and the right caudate, and between vmPFC and Frontal_Mid_Orb_L, and SHAPS scores. Both anMDD and non-anMDD groups demonstrated abnormal FCs in the reward network. This study explored the clinical effect of Shugan Jieyu capsule combined with aerobic exercise on depression. One hundred patients with depression were recruited from Zhengzhou Sixth People's Hospital and were divided into a control group (n = 50) and a research group (n = 50). Patients in the control group received escitalopram alone therapy, while the research group received escitalopram and Shugan Jieyu capsule in conjunction with aerobic exercise. The research group exhibited a better therapeutic effect than the control group (Χ² = 6.06). After therapy, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale scores of both groups were reduced, and the research group had a lower score than the control group. Following treatment, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and interleukin-2 levels decreased in both groups, and the research group had lower levels than the control group. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores of both groups were reduced, with the research group having a lower score than the control group. The score for each item of the World Health Organization Quality of Life in both groups was elevated after therapy, and the research group had a higher score than the control group. In summary, Shugan Jieyu capsule combined with aerobic exercise can decrease the symptoms of depression and inflammatory response, and promote the efficacy of treatment, sleep quality, and quality of life in patients with depression. Menopause occurs around midlife and is an inevitable component of women's aging. The study aimed to investigate the associations between the lifetime prevalence of menopausal symptoms and health-related characteristics among Israeli postmenopausal women aged 55–75 years. Additionally, this study aimed to estimate the use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and women's attitudes toward this treatment. Data for this study were extracted from a cross-sectional national telephone survey conducted in Israel between 2018 and 2020. For the current study, only postmenopausal women aged 55–75 years were included. Multivariate analyses were used to identify demographic and health-related characteristics associated with menopausal symptoms. The study included 688 participants. Most (68.8%) reported one or more menopausal symptoms, specifically vasomotor symptoms (50.4%). According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis, menopausal symptoms were associated with moderate-high anxiety and/or depression symptoms (OR = 2.01, 95% CI 1.12–3.58) and with osteoporosis (OR = 1.78, 95% CI 1.08–2.92). Although most (78.3%) symptomatic women were bothered by their symptoms, 29.1% received any treatment for symptom relief and only 12.6% reported current or past use of HRT. The findings show that menopausal symptoms were associated with a higher prevalence of anxiety and/or depression symptoms and osteoporosis in the years following menopause. Most symptomatic women did not receive any treatment and the majority were against HRT. Knowledge and awareness about menopause and treatment options should be increased among Israeli women. Obesity and MDD have been shown to be bidirectionally associated, and they are both influenced by genetics and environmental factors. However, the molecular mechanisms that link these two diseases are not yet fully understood. It is possible that these diseases are connected through the actions of the cAMP/protein kinase A (PKA) pathway. Within this pathway, adenylate cyclase 3 (Adcy3) has emerged as a key player in both obesity and MDD. Numerous genetic variants in Adcy3 have been identified in humans in association with obesity. Rodent knockout studies have also validated the importance of this gene for energy homeostasis. Furthermore, Adcy3 has been identified as a top candidate gene and even a potential blood biomarker for MDD. Adcy3 and the cAMP/PKA pathway may therefore serve as an important genetic and functional link between these two diseases. In this mini-review, we discuss the role of both Adcy3 and the cAMP/PKA pathway, including specific genetic mutations, in both diseases. Understanding the role that Adcy3 mutations play in obesity and MDD could open the door for precision medicine approaches and treatments for both diseases that target this gene. Background. The Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS) was adapted for American and Chinese youth, but never for European youth. Moreover, the factor structures found in these previous studies were not consistent. Methods. The DTS was adapted for Portuguese children and then validated among 153 children aged 6–13 years with emotional disorders. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted; the DTS reliability and validity were analyzed, and sex and age differences were explored. A sub-sample of children who received a transdiagnostic CBT (Unified Protocol for Children) was used to analyze the DTS's sensitivity to therapeutic change. Results. The five tested models (based on previous studies) exhibited adequate fit in the CFA. However, the model previously reported for use in American children with emotional disorders was selected as the most appropriate. The DTS demonstrated adequate psychometric properties, and its validity was established through significant negative associations with measures of anxiety, depression and negative affect, as well as positive associations with positive affect. Age and sex differences were discussed. The DTS scores significantly increased from pre- to post-treatment, demonstrating sensitivity to therapeutic change. Conclusions. Research into clinical hypnosis for sleep disturbances is an expanding area with important implications for clinical practice and future research. This issue of the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis includes emerging research on clinical hypnosis to improve sleep quality and disturbances. While clinical hypnosis for sleep is very promising, the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. To address this is an article that examines pre-sleep arousal and worry reduction as potential variables associated with the effects of clinical hypnosis in improving sleep quality. Related to this topic is an article entitled, "Aging adults' willingness, preferences, and access to self-hypnosis for sleep: A cross-sectional study," which identifies aging adults' preferences and access to self-hypnosis for sleep. This issue of the IJCEH also includes an important article on health care professionals' perceptions, knowledge and attitudes toward clinical hypnosis which considers the need for more training and education in clinical hypnosis among health care providers. Further, a scoping review of hypnotherapy for treatment of depression is presented, followed by an exploration of implicit rapport in hypnotherapy, and a case report on hypnotherapy in oral surgery with a highly hypnotizable patient. Background: Primary care physicians (PCP) play a key role in the care of people living with dementia. However, the implementation and practicability of the German S3 Dementia Guideline in primary care remain unclear. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate an intervention for improving guideline‐based dementia care in primary care. Design: A two‐arm, 9‐month follow‐up cluster‐randomized controlled trial with two parallel groups. Setting: 28 primary care practices in Berlin and the surrounding area in Germany. Participants: A total of N = 28 PCP, N = 91 people living with dementia, and N = 88 informal caregivers participated in the trial. Intervention: A tablet‐based intervention to improve adherence to the German S3 Dementia Guideline in primary care was compared to a control group (care as usual plus a handbook on dementia). MeasurementsAdherence to dementia guideline (primary outcome) was measured on PCP' (23 items) and informal caregivers' level (19 items) with a self‐developed checklist. Secondary outcomes (quality of life, neuropsychiatric symptoms, activities of daily living, general health status, depression, and caregiver burden) were measured with standardized assessments. Also, post‐hoc per‐protocol analyses were conducted. Results: No differences in guideline adherence between the intervention and the control group were observed. Further, no significant impact of the intervention on secondary outcomes was detected. Conclusion: The DemTab Study did not improve self‐reported guideline adherence in PCP. However, important implementation barriers such as lack of interoperability and low applicability of existing German S3 Dementia Guideline in the primary care setting were identified and are being discussed. Introduction: Mindfulness training has demonstrated positive effects on psychological health and is being used in a variety of clinical and therapeutic settings. Materials and Method: This quasi-experimental study examined the impact of Mindfulness practice on self-compassion, empathy, self-esteem, stress, anxiety, and Mindfulness awareness of undergraduate psychology students. Results: The results showed a significant increase in self-compassion and Mindfulness awareness, as well as a decrease in stress, depression and anxiety after the intervention. Positive correlations were found between Self-Compassion, Self-Esteem, empathy and Mindfulness awareness, and negative correlations with stress, anxiety and depression. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of self-compassion and supports the incorporation of Mindfulness programmes in professional training for the development of essential therapeutic skills, such as self-esteem, empathy and Mindfulness awareness. Honokiol is a neolignan biphenol found in aerial parts of the Magnolia plant species. The Magnolia plant species traditionally belong to China and have been used for centuries to treat many pathological conditions. Honokiol mitigates the severity of several pathological conditions and has the potential to work as an anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, anticancer, antioxidant, and neurotherapeutic agent. It has a long history of being employed in the healthcare practices of Southeast Asia, but in recent years, a greater scope of research has been conducted on it. Plenty of experimental evidence suggests it could be beneficial as a neuroprotective bioactive molecule. Honokiol has several pharmacological effects, leading to its exploration as a potential therapy for neurological diseases (NDs), including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), cerebral ischemia, anxiety, depression, spinal cord injury, and so on. So, based on the previous experimentation reports, our goal is to discuss the neuroprotective properties of honokiol. Besides, honokiol derivatives have been highlighted recently as possible therapeutic options for NDs. Depression has long been considered a disease involving immune hyperactivation. The impact of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-a, IL-1ß, IL-6, and IL-8 on depression has been widely studied. However, the effect of IL-33, another pro-inflammatory cytokine, has been less researched. Currently, research on the correlation between IL-33 and depression risk is inconsistent. In response to these divergent results, we conducted a review and meta-analysis aimed at resolving published research on the correlation between IL-33 and depression risk, and understanding the potential role of IL-33 in the development and treatment of depression. After searching different databases, we analyzed 8 studies. Our meta-analysis showed that IL-33 had a positive correlation with reduced risk of depression. The pooled standard mean differences (SMD) = 0.14, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.05-0.24. Subgroup analysis results showed that IL-33 and ST2 levels in cerebrospinal fluid and serum is positive correlated with reduced risk of major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). According to the characteristics of the included literature, the results mainly focuses on Caucasian. Furthermore, according to the subgroup analysis of depression-related data sources for disease or treatment, the correlation between IL-33 and depression risk is reflected throughout the entire process of depression development and treatment. Therefore, the change of IL-33 level in serum and cerebrospinal fluid can serve as useful indicators for assessing the risk of depression, and the biomarker provides potential treatment strategies for reducing the burden of the disease.
