Due to the characteristics of good concealment ability and strong mobility, multiple, small spherical underwater robot formations play an important role in near coast defense missions, such as cruising, reconnaissance, surveillance, and sensitive target capturing. Referring to the formation problem for underwater small spherical robots with limited energy, perception, and computation abilities, a trajectory tracking-based formation strategy that transforms the complex formation tracking problem into a simple trajectory tracking problem of a single robot is provided. Two layers are designed in the formation tracking strategy. The upper layer is a virtual structure-based formation algorithm. The bottom layer is a tracking controller based on model predictive control (MPC). The formation algorithm is in charge of calculating reference trajectory for each robot in the formation according to the global formation path. The MPC-based dynamic controller for each robot is designed to track the self reference trajectory. Compared with the model predictive control method used for the traditional trajectory tracking problem of a single robot, this paper additionally considers the formation constraints and the internal collision avoidance. In addition, the extended state observer (ESO) is utilized to estimate the lumped disturbance composed of environment disturbance and the inaccurate dynamic model of a small spherical robot. Not only are the numerical simulations based on MATLAB v.2015a, but physical simulations based on self-building multi-spherical robot formation platform are also carried out. Furthermore, through using two small spherical robots, a formation tracing experiment is conducted. The present article enables reinforcement learning (RL)‐based controllers for process control applications. Existing instances of RL‐based solutions have significant challenges for online implementation since the training process of an RL agent (controller) presently requires practically impossible number of online interactions between the agent and the environment (process). To address this challenge, we propose an implementable model‐free RL method developed by leveraging industrially implemented model predictive control (MPC) calculations (often designed using a simple linear model identified via step tests). In the first step, MPC calculations are used to pretrain an RL agent that can mimic the MPC performance. Specifically, the MPC calculations are used to pretrain the actor, and the objective function is used to pretrain the critic(s). The pretrained RL agent is then employed within a model‐free RL framework to control the process in a way that initially imitates MPC behavior (thus not compromising process performance and safety), but also continuously learns and improve its performance over the nominal linear MPC. This paper proposes a method for reducing the environmental impact of sewer network (SN) overflows. The main objective of the paper is to minimize the wastewater quantity and the pollutant loads that overflow from the SN. The proposed algorithm to achieve this goal is Model Predictive Control using Particle Swarm Optimization as optimization method. It was tested in simulation using a simplified model of the network based on Benchmark Simulation Modelsewer as prediction model, and a forecasted influent. Three cases have been considered: (a) the fitness function is defined as the global yearly overflow volume calculated using equal weights for each tank; (b) the fitness function uses different weights for each tank depending on the medium loads and (c) integrating a penalty term related to the system state at the end of the prediction horizon in the previous fitness function. The simplified model determined a significant reduction of the integration time minimizing the optimization time. In order to harness a greater share of wind energy resources, offshore wind energy projects are venturing into deep-sea locations. In this progression, the issue of grid integration control becomes increasingly challenging. Traditional Model Predictive Control (MPC) has been introduced in offshore wind energy grid integration control due to its merits, such as not requiring modulators, dispensing with decoupling, incorporating constraint handling, and facilitating online optimization. However, it heavily relies on a model and consequently experiences a substantial loss of control effectiveness in the face of system parameter variations. In light of this, this study presents an active-disturbance-rejection-based three-vector sequence model predictive control approach. This method effectively mitigates the influence caused by changes in system parameters, endowing the system with self-disturbance rejection capabilities and enhancing its fault recovery abilities. The method employs self-disturbance control to track voltage reference values and employs the concept of sequence control to eliminate weighting factors in the cost function. Furthermore, it employs three-vector control to achieve error-free operation. The simulation results confirmed that the proposed method effectively minimizes voltage and power transients. Optimal energy management of microgrids enables efficient integration of renewable energies by considering all system flexibilities. For systems with significant seasonal imbalance between energy production and demand, it may be necessary to integrate seasonal storage in order to achieve fully decarbonized operation. This paper develops a novel model predictive control strategy for a renewable microgrid with seasonal hydrogen storage. The strategy relies on data-based prediction of the energy production and consumption of an industrial power plant and finds optimized energy flows using a digital twin optimizer. To enable seasonal operation, incentives for long-term energy shifts are provided by assigning a cost value to the storage charge and adding it to the optimization target function. A hybrid control scheme based on rule-based heuristics compensates for imperfect predictions. The cart–inverted pendulum system (CIPS) is a typical example of underactuated mechanical systems. For the CIPS with friction and disturbances, a gain-scheduled model predictive control method is proposed to achieve the upright stabilization objective of the single inverted pendulum (SIP) while controlling the cart to reach a desired new position. To this end, first, a dynamic equation of the CIPS with friction and disturbances is formulated based on the Newton–Euler equation. On the basis of the dynamic equation of the CIPS, its motion characteristics and control process are analyzed. Next, the given dynamic equation of the CIPS is linearized to obtain a series of linearized models at seven different pendulum angles. Then, seven model predictive controllers (MPCs) are designed based on the above-linearized models, respectively. Introducing the idea of the gain-schedule, a gain-scheduled MPC (GSMPC) is designed to switch one of these seven MPCs to realize the control objective of the CIPS, according to the actual pendulum angle of the SIP during the control process. Finally, multi-group simulations that consider the friction and disturbances of the CIPS are implemented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed gain-scheduled model predictive control method. This work focuses on enhancing the operational safety, cybersecurity, computational efficiency, and closed-loop performance of large-scale nonlinear time-delay systems. This is achieved by employing a decentralized model predictive controller (MPC) with encrypted networked communication. Within this decentralized setup, the nonlinear process is partitioned into multiple subsystems, each controlled by a distinct Lyapunov-based MPC. These controllers take into account the interactions between subsystems by utilizing full state feedback, while computing the control inputs only corresponding to their respective subsystem. To address the performance degradation associated with input delays, we integrate a predictor with each LMPC to compute the states after the input delay period. The LMPC model is initialized with these predicted states. To cope with state delays, the LMPC model is formulated using differential difference equations (DDEs) that describe the state-delays in the system. Further, to enhance cybersecurity, all signals transmitted to and received from each subsystem are encrypted. A stability analysis is carried out for the encrypted decentralized MPC when it is utilized in a time-delay system. Bounds are set up for the errors arising from encryption, state-delays, and sample-and-hold implementation of the controller. Guidelines are established to implement this proposed control structure in any nonlinear time-delay system. To effectively enhance the safety, stability, and economic operation capability of DC microgrids, an optimized control strategy for DC microgrid hybrid energy storage system (HESS)(The abbreviation table is shown in Table 2) based on model predictive control theory is proposed. Based on the characteristics of supercapacitors and batteries, system safety requirements, and various constraints, a predictive model for a hybrid energy storage DC microgrid is established. By defining its optimization indicators, designing an energy optimization management strategy, and transforming it into a quadratic programming problem for solution, the reasonable scheduling of power in the DC microgrid has been achieved. In addition, a power control method was proposed for the system without constraints. The simulation experiment results show that at the initial sampling time, the system operates normally, and the MPC algorithm allocates two types of energy storage devices to discharge to meet the net load demand, without absorbing electricity from the external network. At the 30th sampling point, the net load increases, and the MPC controller obtains the optimal solution of the control problem based on the known net load prediction data at the previous sampling time. It outputs the operating reference values of each output unit at the next time. Starting from the 100th to 199th sampling points, SOCUC falls below the lower limit of the safety interval, and the system enters situation 4 mode. The external network output assists the battery in working. At the 131st sampling point, the net load decreases, the system enters Situation 3 mode, and the battery operates independently. Until the 179th point, SOCB was also below the lower limit of its safety interval, and the system entered situation 5 mode, completely maintaining system power balance by external network power. Starting from point 201, the net load becomes negative, and the system charges the HESS according to instructions and stops the external power grid energy transmission. Accuracy and efficiency are two important performances of model predictive control in trajectory tracking and they are seriously affected by the control parameters of model predictive control. To make the model predictive control with high accuracy and efficiency simultaneous, the paper proposed a strategy to tune the control parameters for model predictive control. The proposed strategy converts the tuning problem to a multi-objective optimization problem and employs non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) to solve it. The proposed strategy is employed to tune the control parameters for a classical model predictive control in a typical trajectory tracking condition. The simulation results show that the comprehensive performances of model predictive controller tuned by the proposed method are better than other tuning methods. In recent years, with the rapid growth in the number of electric vehicles (EVs), the large-scale grid connection of EVs has had a profound impact on the power grid. As a flexible energy storage resource, EVs can participate in auxiliary services of the power grid via vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. Due to the uncertainty of EVs accessing the grid, it is difficult to accurately control their charging and charging behaviors at both the day-ahead and real-time stages. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes a two-stage scheduling strategy framework for EVs. In the presented framework, according to historical driving data, a day-ahead scheduling model based on distributionally robust optimization (DRO) is first established to determine the total power plan. In the real-time scheduling stage, a real-time scheduling model based on model predictive control (MPC) is established to track the day-ahead power plan. It can reduce the impact of EVs' uncertainties. This strategy can ensure the charging demand of users is under the control of the charging and discharging behaviors of EVs, which can improve the accuracy of controlling EVs. The case study shows that the scheduling strategy can achieve accurate and fast control of charging and discharging. The Wiener model, composed of a linear dynamical block and a nonlinear static one connected in series, is frequently used for prediction in Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms. The parallel structure is an extension of the classical Wiener model; it is expected to offer better modeling accuracy and increase the MPC control quality. This work discusses the benefits of using the parallel Wiener model in MPC. It has three objectives. Firstly, it describes a fast MPC algorithm in which parallel Wiener models are used for online prediction. In the presented approach, sophisticated trajectory linearization is performed online, which leads to computationally fast quadratic optimization. The second objective of this work is to study the influence of the model structure on modeling accuracy. The well-known neutralization benchmark process is considered. It is shown that the parallel Wiener models in the open-loop mode generate significantly fewer errors than the classical structure. This work's third objective is to validate the efficiency of parallel Wiener models in closed-loop MPC. For the neutralization process, it is demonstrated that parallel models demonstrate better control quality using various indicators, but the difference between the classical and parallel models is not significant. Summary: This paper proposes a harmonic suppression strategy for photovoltaic‐voltage source converters (PV‐VSC). The proposed method utilizes a harmonic state space (HSS) model‐combine model predictive control (MPC) algorithm, which provides a comprehensive representation of the global characteristics of AC/DC harmonic coupling impedance in photovoltaic systems. The HSS‐based converter model operates as a linear time‐varying periodic system, which allows for the implementation of MPC to optimize the HSS equation. This optimization yields voltage increments across various harmonic orders, providing feedforward compensation for the current controller. By incorporating feedback signals into the current control, harmonic compensation is achieved, resulting in improved power quality. Furthermore, a decoupled proportional resonance‐linear adaptive disturbance rejection control (PR‐LADRC) is employed to effectively mitigate steady‐state errors and decrease total harmonic distortion in the presence of DC‐side disturbances. This is accomplished by decoupling the disturbance observer from the controller and integrating the increment feedback signal derived from the MPC‐HSS. To overcome the difficulties of time-varying disturbance, model mismatch, and frequent operation in the rudder/fin joint control system, an interference model predictive control (I-MPC) rudder/fin joint control system with sliding mode observer is proposed. Considering that the model mismatch problem occurs when the ship is sailing, the model mismatch and external disturbance are regarded as the total disturbance. A discrete 3-degree-of-freedom ship disturbance mathematical model is established. The rudder angle and fin angle are selected as the system inputs, then a sliding mode observer is designed to observe the time-varying disturbance and system output in real time. Different from traditional MPC and feedforward compensation, I-MPC will predict the output based on the disturbance observation value, and the control law is solved under rudder/fin angle and angular velocity constraints. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves the tracking performance and anti-disturbance performance of the rudder/fin system. The observer has high observation accuracy for constant, sinusoidal, and time-varying disturbances. Mechanism wear and energy loss caused by frequent operation are avoided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: In this paper, we discuss how to synthesize stabilizing model predictive control (MPC) algorithms based on convexly parameterized integral quadratic constraints (IQCs), with the aid of general multipliers. Specifically, we consider Lur'e systems subject to sector‐bounded and slope‐restricted nonlinearities. As the main novelty, we introduce point‐wise IQCs with storage in order to accordingly generate the MPC terminal ingredients, thus enabling closed‐loop stability, strict dissipativity with regard to the nonlinear feedback, and recursive feasibility of the optimization. Specifically, we consider formulations involving both static and dynamic multipliers, and provide corresponding algorithms for the synthesis procedures. The major benefit of the proposed approach resides in the flexibility of the IQC framework, which is capable to deal with many classes of uncertainties and nonlinearities. Moreover, for the considered class of nonlinearities, our method yields larger regions of attraction of the synthesized predictive controllers (with reduced conservatism) if compared to the standard approach to deal with sector constraints from the literature. In this paper, we evaluate the robustness qualities of Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms applied for Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) systems. Specifically, we analyze gain‐scheduled LPV MPC schemes, that is, those that use model predictions based on the LPV scheduling variables available at each sampling instant. Accordingly, we extend previous results on finite‐horizon robustness analysis of linear time‐variant (LTV) systems, employing Integral Quadratic Constraints (IQCs) to describe the input‐output behavior of prediction uncertainties. We provide two main novelties in our formulation: (i) we propose a parameter‐dependent Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) inequality to describe the existence and feasibility of the LPV MPC control inputs; and (ii) we model the uncertainties that arise due to the unavailability of the scheduling trajectory along the prediction horizon as a bounded interconnection in the form of a Linear Fractional Transformation (LFT). Accordingly, we use dissipativity arguments (p$$ p $$‐hard IQCs) in order to compute robust induced gains of the closed‐loop system (specifically, the ℒ2$$ {\mathcal{L}}_2 $$ and ℒ2$$ {\mathcal{L}}_2 $$‐to‐Euclidean metrics), taking into account the MPC prediction uncertainties. To have accurate control of a wind turbine, especially when facing wind loads, it is vital to model the dynamic behavior of the system accurately and select the controller parameters properly. To mitigate these challenges, here, an optimal model-based controller is utilized using particle swarm optimization to suppress the vibrations of the tower for an NREL 5 MW turbine in the presence of the turbulence wind. For this purpose, first, a discrete state-space model is derived for the wind turbine based on the finite difference method, and the validity of the model structure is verified with its analytical solution. Then, the structure of a model predictive controller is implemented on the model of the wind turbine with optimization of the plant behavior, extracted from state-space form, in a prediction horizon. Next, to prevent the dependence of the proposed controller structure on its parameters, a number of training scenarios including the turbulent wind with different intensities are run in parallel. The cost of each scenario is continually updated based on the tracking error, the control effort and the control command generation time in total run time. Consequently, the best parameters of the controller are adjusted using a stochastic robust optimization algorithm such as particle swarm optimization. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is recognized as an effective method to improve vehicle safety and reduce driver workload. This paper proposes a whole hierarchical multi-level state ACC system. According to the function of ACC system, the three-level state ACC system is designed and the conversion mechanism between different states is put forward. As for the complex car-following mode, considering the variable headway safety distance and the road adhesion coefficient, the expected safety distance model is established, using the distance error and the speed error as fuzzy input, based on the fuzzy control algorithm, the following mode is obtained; considering vehicle safety, tracking capability and ride comfort, the control objectives are formulated into the model predictive control algorithm. A dynamic weight strategy is proposed to solve time-varying multi-objective control problems, where the weight can be adjusted with respect to different following conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the car following performance of ACC with the proposed dynamic weighted MPC can provide better performance than that using constant weight MPC, and the multi-level state ACC system can display the control mode more intuitively. This paper introduces a novel neural network model predictive controller based on Archimedes optimization algorithm to control constrained nonlinear systems, namely robot manipulators. Neural network models of a simple structure are used to accurately predict the system's future outputs. The new Archimedes optimization algorithm is utilized to solve the optimization problem of model predictive control and compute the optimal control action; this algorithm was widely used in different engineering fields due to its good accuracy and convergence speed. The performances of the suggested control algorithm are investigated by simulating a two-degrees-of-freedom robot manipulator. The obtained results are compared with those of various techniques, namely the PID controller, the computed torque controller, and the neural network-based model predictive control using the teaching–learning-based optimization and the particle swarm optimization. To complete the study, the developed controller is implemented on a DSP board and used to control a three-degrees-of-freedom robot manipulator; its results are compared to the neural network-based model predictive control based on the teaching–learning-based optimization and the particle swarm optimization. The simulation and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed controller provides satisfactory robustness and accuracy, can handle constraints, and can be used to control systems with fast dynamics. In this study, an improved virtual space vector (VSV)-based two-stage model predictive control (MPC) scheme is presented for neutral point clamped (NPC) converters in high power-rated permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based wind energy conversion system applications. The presented MPC scheme utilizes the VSVs and involves two-stage prediction for effectively reducing computation complexity. In stage-I prediction, a virtual space vector is identified based on the optimum cost function. Then, a set of sub-sector vectors are placed in stage II prediction based on the capacitor voltage levels. From this, the cost function predicts the optimum switching state. At the same time, the conditional selection of small voltage vectors in stage II prediction eliminates the neutral point voltage balancing constraint. Finally, the presented method is verified by the simulation of the back-to-back NPC converter of a high-power-rated PMSG-based wind energy conversion system. Unequal thermal stress among the phase legs of a multiphase converter leads to a reduction in the useful lifespan and reliability of that converter in general. Increasing the converter's lifespan by relieving the stressed phase leg, which suffers excessive thermal stress due to aging, is crucial. This paper evaluates two control concepts, including two per-phase model predictive control methods for extending the lifespan of a voltage source inverter. These two per-phase techniques alter the switching pattern to reduce the losses of the most aged phase leg. Hence, the loss and the corresponding thermal stress of the leg that has aged the most are reduced. In such a way, the lifespan and reliability of the converter are prolonged. Two per-phase model predictive control techniques are executed in both simulation and experiment environments, where the corresponding results are provided to evaluate the behavior of these control strategies, considering several operational aspects both in steady state and transient operation. To improve the fuel economy of ships with multi-energy hybrid power systems, we propose an energy management strategy for hybrid power ships based on condition identification and prediction. By constructing a condition identification model based on a support vector machine (SVM), the characteristic parameters of current operation conditions of the ships were analyzed and assessed to determine operation condition types of the ships in real-time. The model predictive control (MPC) method is used to distribute the output power of the main engine, storage battery, and supercapacitor. Using multiple sets of multi-step Markov models with different types of operating conditions as the power prediction model, the optimal prediction time domain length and initial SOC are selected through simulation. Finally, based on the operating condition identification results, the operating condition prediction model for the corresponding type of operating condition is automatically selected to improve the strategy performance.The results show that the proposed strategy can save 4.55% of fuel consumption compared with the strategy using only model predictive control.Using this strategy can effectively improve the fuel economy and energy efficiency, and promote the development of green ships. An input shaper-based model predictive control scheme is proposed for an overhead crane to suppress the swing of the payload. A control-oriented mathematical model of the crane is firstly derived based on the small angle hypothesis. Furthermore, three kinds of commonly used shapers are discussed and a zero vibration derivative shaper is selected for the crane. Then, a model predictive swing suppression controller is designed for the crane based on the selected shaper. Constraints on the control input and its slew rate are respected. Besides, the constraint on the swing angle of the payload is also respected as an output constraint. The constrained solution is given in the form of standard quadratic programming. The designed control scheme combines open-loop and closedloop control techniques, achieving accurate positioning of the trolley and good swing suppression of the payload. The deployment of model-predictive control (MPC) for a building's energy system is a challenging task due to high computational and modeling costs. In this study, an MPC controller based on EnergyPlus and MATLAB is developed, and its performance is evaluated through a case study in terms of energy savings, optimality of solutions, and computational time. The MPC determines the optimal setpoint trajectories of supply air temperature and chilled water temperature in a simulated office building. A comparison between MPC and rule-based control (RBC) strategies for three test days showed that the MPC achieved 49.7% daily peak load reduction and 17.6% building energy savings, which were doubled compared to RBC. The MPC optimization problem was solved multiple times using the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm with different starting points. Results showed that ACO consistently delivered high-quality optimized control sequences, yielding less than a 1% difference in energy savings between the worst and best solutions across all three test days. Moreover, the computational time for solving the MPC problem and obtaining nearly optimal control sequences for a three-hour prediction horizon was observed to be around 22 min. This article presents a machine learning‐based model predictive control (MPC) scheme for stabilization of hybrid dynamical systems, for which the evolution of states exhibits both continuous and discrete dynamics described by differential and difference equations, respectively. We first present the development of two recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for approximating continuous‐ and discrete‐time dynamics of hybrid dynamical systems, respectively, and then construct a unified hybrid RNN by integrating the two RNN models to capture both continuous and discrete dynamics. The hybrid RNN is used as the prediction model in Lyapunov‐based MPC (RNN‐LMPC), under which closed‐loop stability of hybrid dynamical systems is established. Finally, two case studies including a bouncing ball example and a chemical process are utilized to illustrate the open‐ and closed‐loop performance of the proposed RNN‐LMPC scheme. Efficient control schemes for ill-conditioned systems, such as the high-purity distillation column, can be challenging and costly to design and implement. In this paper, we propose a distributed control scheme that utilizes well-designed excitation signals to identify the system. Unlike traditional systems, we found that a summation of correlated and uncorrelated signals can yield better excitation of the plant. Our proposed distributed model predictive control (MPC) scheme uses a shifted input sequence to address loop interactions and reduce the computational load. This approach deviates from traditional schemes that use iteration, which can increase complexity and computational load. We initially tested the proposed method on the linear model of a highly coupled 2 × 2 process and compared its performance with decentralized proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers and centralized MPC. Our results show improved performance over PID controllers and similar results to centralized MPC. Furthermore, we compared the performance of the proposed approach with a centralized MPC on a nonlinear model of a distillation column. The results for the second study also demonstrated comparable performance between the two controllers with the decentralised control slightly outperforming the centralised MPC in some cases. The underactuated unmanned surface vessel (USV) has been identified as a promising solution for future maritime transport. However, the challenges of precise trajectory tracking and obstacle avoidance remain unresolved for USVs. To this end, this paper models the problem of path tracking through the first-order Nomoto model in the Serret–Frenet coordinate system. A novel risk model has been developed to depict the association between USVs and obstacles based on SFC. Combined with an artificial potential field that accounts for environmental obstacles, model predictive control (MPC) based on state space is employed to achieve the optimal control sequence. The stability of the designed controller is demonstrated by means of the Lyapunov method and zero-pole analysis. Through simulation, it has been demonstrated that the controller is asymptotically stable concerning track error deviation, heading angle deviation, and heading angle speed, and its good stability and robustness in the presence of multiple risks are verified. The conventional finite control set model predictive current control (FCS-MPCC) suffers from suboptimal steady-state performance, primarily due to the limited selection of only eight basic voltage vectors in each control cycle. To overcome this limitation, the proposed extended control set MPCC (ECS-MPCC) utilizes an control set consisting of 818 selectable vectors, enabling a more refined voltage output and achieving a deadbeat response for current control by minimizing the cost function. To mitigate the computational burden resulting from the substantial increase in voltage vectors, a simplified search strategy is devised, which can be extended to other multi-objective cost functions. Remarkably, based on the inherent parallelism of the algorithm, the ECS-MPCC is implemented on an FPGA, further reducing the overall control time of the current loop to an impressive 0.61 μs. Through simulation and experimental tests on a laboratory PMSM driver, the effectiveness of the proposed ECS-MPCC strategy is validated. The experimental results demonstrate a significant reduction of 79% in the total harmonic distortion of phase currents compared to the conventional FCS-MPCC approach. This improvement underscores the superiority of the ECS-MPCC in enhancing the performance of PMSM drives, thereby illustrating its potential for practical implementation in real-world applications. In order to address two‐dimensional (2D) control issue for a class of batch chemical processes, we propose a novel high‐order iterative learning model predictive control (HILMPC) method in this paper. A set of local state‐space models are first constructed to represent the batch chemical processes by adopting the just‐in‐time learning (JITL) technique. Meanwhile, a pre‐clustered strategy is used to lessen the computational burden of the modelling process and improve the modelling efficiency. Then, a two‐stage 2D controller is designed to achieve integrated control by combining high‐order iterative learning control (HILC) on the batch domain with model predictive control (MPC) on the time domain. The resulting HILMPC controller can not only guarantee the convergence of the system on the batch domain, but also guarantee the closed‐loop stability of the system on the time domain. The convergence of the HILMPC method is ensured by rigorous analysis. It is known that the key indicators of batch processes are controlled by conventional proportional–integral–derivative (PID) strategies from the view of one‐dimensional (1D) framework. Under such conditions, the information among batches cannot be used sufficiently; meanwhile, the repetitive disturbances also cannot be handled well. In order to deal with such situations, a novel two‐dimensional PID controller optimized by two‐dimensional model predictive iterative learning control (2D‐PID‐MPILC) is proposed. The contributions of this paper can be summarized as follows. First, a novel two‐dimensional PID (2D‐PID) controller is developed by combining the advantages of a PID‐type iterative learning control (PIDILC) strategy and the conventional PID method. This novel 2D‐PID controller overcomes the aforementioned disadvantages and extends the conventional PID algorithm from one‐dimension to two‐dimensions. Second, the tuning guidelines of the presented 2D‐PID controller are obtained from the two‐dimensional model predictive control iterative control (2D‐MPILC) method. Thus, the proposed approach inherits the advantages of both PID control, PIDILC strategy, and 2D‐MPILC scheme. The Dual–Vector model predictive control (DV–MPC) method can improve the steady–state control performance of motor drives compared to using the single–vector method in one switching cycle. However, this performance enhancement generally increases the computational burden due to the exponential increase in the number of vector selections, lowering the system's dynamic response. Alternatively, limiting the vector combinations will sacrifice system steady–state performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an enhanced DV–MPC method that can determine the optimal vector combinations along with their duration time within minimized calculation times. Compared to the existing DV–MPC methods, the proposed enhanced technique can achieve excellent steady–state performance while maintaining a low computational burden. To maximize improving the tracking wind power output plan and the service life of energy storage systems (ESS), a control strategy is proposed for ESS to track wind power planning output based on model prediction and two-layer fuzzy control. First, based on model predictive control, a model with deviations of grid-connected power from the planned output and the minimum deviation of the remaining capacity of the ESS from the ideal value is established as the target. Then, when the grid-connected power exceeds the allowable deviation band of tracking, the weight coefficients in the objective function are adjusted by introducing the first layer of fuzzy control rules, combining the state of charge (SOC) of the ESS with the dynamic tracking demand of the planned value of wind power. When the grid-connected power is within the tracking allowable deviation band, the second layer of fuzzy control rules is used to correct the charging and discharging power of the ESS to improve its ability to track the future planned deviation while not crossing the limit. By repeatedly correcting the charging and discharging power of the ESS, its safe operation and the multitasking execution of the wind power plan output tracking target are ensured. Finally, taking actual data from a wind farm as an example, tests on a simulation platform of a combined wind-storage power generation system verify the feasibility and superiority of the proposed control strategy. An error-triggered spatial model predictive control (MPC) strategy is present for the parabolic partial differential equation (PDE) system, utilizing input/output data. The initial model is first constructed, in which the spatial basis functions (SBFs) are obtained through Karhunen-Loève expansion, and the temporal models are trained by the neural network. Due to the time-varying nature of the PDE system and the poor control performance during model updates, an error-triggered mechanism is developed to update the SBFs. Besides, a temporal sliding window is designed to update the temporal models, which can strike a balance between capturing the latest dynamics and maintaining temporal model accuracy. Based on the aforementioned model, a spatial MPC incorporating spatial distribution information is proposed. Theoretical analysis affirms the stability of the proposed controller. To demonstrate the superiority of this method, experiments during the thermal process in an oven are carried out. This work has two objectives. Firstly, it describes a novel physics-informed hybrid neural network (PIHNN) model based on the long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network. The presented model structure combines the first-principle process description and data-driven neural sub-models using a specialized data fusion block that relies on fuzzy logic. The second objective of this work is to detail a computationally efficient model predictive control (MPC) algorithm that employs the PIHNN model. The validity of the presented modeling and MPC approaches is demonstrated for a simulated polymerization reactor. The challenge of trajectory tracking of autonomous vehicles (AVs) is a critical aspect that must be effectively addressed. Recent studies are concerned with maintaining the yaw stability to guarantee the customers' comfort throughout the journey. Most of the geometrical controllers solve this task by dividing it into consecutive point stabilization problems, limiting the controllers' ability to handle sudden trajectory changes. One research presented a predictive Stanley lateral controller that uses a discrete prediction model to mimic human behavior by anticipating the vehicle's future states. That controller is limited in its use, as the parameters must be manually tuned for every change in the maneuver or vehicle velocity. This article presents a novel approach for trajectory tracking in autonomous vehicles, by introducing a fuzzy supervisory controller that automatically adapts to changes in the vehicle's velocity and maneuver by estimating the prediction horizon's length and providing different weights for each controller. The proposed method overcomes the limitations of traditional controllers that require manual tuning of parameters, making it ready for real-world experiments. This is the main contribution of the research in this paper. The suggested technique demonstrated an advantage over the Basic Stanley controller and the manually tuned predictive Stanley controller in terms of the total lateral error and the model predictive control (MPC) in terms of computational time. The performance is determined by performing various simulations on V-Rep and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) experiments on an E-CAR golf bus. In the present study, the economic model predictive control (EMPC) scheme is presented for the time of use tariff application of photovoltaic and diesel generator backup system, which is connected to the grid‐connected microgrid. Through the use of the closed‐loop control system, the prior open‐loop optimal control is enhanced. Minimizing the grid energy and fuel costs by evaluating the fuel level restrictions in the diesel tank is the main goal of this study. To accommodate the restrictions among controllable variables, this control method fulfils the load requirements. To gain the benefits of feedback and predictions, optimal power scheduling is modelled as a control problem. Furthermore, Blockchain technology is applied to secure interchanged information in the grid to avoid manipulating data by attackers. Specifically, the analysis is divided into two scenarios. The first one takes place in the alternative style when a blackout happens between [7 am and 6 pm] h and the other occurs in a grid energy mode when the network is available over 24 h. Energy performance, cost savings, and daily revenue have all been improved by EMPC. As a result, the daily energy savings are up to 52%, whereas diesel energy does not go over 85%. Aiming at the problem that the bus voltage in a low-inertia DC microgrid is prone to be affected by internal power fluctuations, an adaptive virtual inertia control strategy for a grid-connected converter of a DC microgrid based on an improved model prediction is proposed. Firstly, the adaptive analog virtual synchronous generator (AVSG) is introduced into the voltage outer loop by combining the inertial parameters with the voltage change rate, and the flexible adjustment of the inertial parameters is realized. Secondly, the improved model predictive control is introduced into the current inner loop to realize the fast-tracking of the given current value and improve the dynamic characteristics of the control system. Finally, a system model is established based on Matlab/Simulink for simulation. The results show that compared with the traditional virtual inertia control strategy, the proposed control strategy has smaller bus voltage fluctuation amplitude and better dynamic performance; when a 10 kW load mutation occurs, the magnitude of bus voltage drop is reduced by 60%, and the voltage recovery time is shortened by 30%. An alternative approach for real-time network-wide traffic control in cities that has recently gained attention is perimeter flow control. Many studies have shown that this method is more efficient than state-of-the-art adaptive signal control strategies for heterogeneously congested urban networks. The basic concept of such an approach is to partition heterogeneous cities into a small number of homogeneous regions (zones) and apply perimeter control to the interregional flows along the boundaries between regions. The transferring flows are controlled at the traffic intersections located at the borders between regions so as to distribute the congestion in an optimal way and minimize the total delay of the system. The focus of current work is the mathematical formulation of the original nonlinear problem in a linear parameter-varying (LPV) form so that optimal control can be applied in a (rolling horizon) model predictive concept. This work presents the mathematical analysis of the optimal control problem as well as the approximations and simplifications that are assumed in order to derive the formulation of a linear optimization problem. Numerical simulation results for the case of a macroscopic environment (plant) are presented in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach. Results for the closed-loop model predictive control scheme are presented for the nonlinear case, which is used as "benchmark," as well as the linear case. Furthermore, the developed scheme is applied to a large-scale microsimulation of a European city with more than 500 signalized intersections in order to better investigate its applicability to real-life conditions. The simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the scheme compared with fixed-time control because all of the performance indicators are significantly improved. The path tracking control and the anti-rollover control were respectively constructed based on the kinematic model of sprayer. In the upper layer, the model predictive control (MPC) was used to output the desired steering angle and speed of the sprayer based on the current state of the sprayer and the desired path to achieve trajectory tracking control. The lower layer controller was used to determine whether the vehicle state produced rollover by introducing lateral load transfer rate (LTR) as rollover measure index, and the LTR was controlled by introducing a fuzzy controller to achieve the control of lateral acceleration and stabilize the LTR at a certain threshold value. The sprayer was controlled with better control accuracy and driving stability in the process of trajectory tracking and was ensured without rollover. The joint simulation results of ADAMS/MATLAB show that by anti-rollover control, the LTR of the sprayer can be controlled within 0.5 under complex road conditions with high trajectory tracking accuracy and improved safety. Summary: This article presents a model predictive control for dynamic positioning (DP) of floating caisson at different draughts. This article focuses on the maneuvres related to the control of the spatial situation of the caisson in connexion with the final caisson reference point and the process of descending to the seabed desired location. Different models of the caisson in order to perform realistic simulations and to test the robustness of the controller are considered. A gain scheduling model predictive control (GSMPC) has been implemented, with parameter switch among four model predictive control (MPC) controllers. In this way, a specific MPC for the dynamics of each draught will be used in each caisson model corresponding to a draught. Furthermore, a Kalman filter has been implemented to remove the disturbances. Finally, in the simulations results it is compared the performance of the proposed controller with a clasic one and also it is checked how the proposed controller is able to position the system in all draughts with stability and accurate dynamic control of the system. This paper presents a novel control strategy that provides active disturbance rejection predictive control on constrained systems with no nominal identified model. The proposed loop relaxes the modelling requirement to a fixed discrete-time state–space realisation of a first-order plus integrator plant despite the nature of the controlled process. A third-order discrete Extended State Observer (ESO) estimates the model mismatch and assumed plant states. Moreover, the constraints handling is tackled by incorporating the compensation term related to the total perturbation in the definition of the optimisation problem constraints. Although there have already been many works on the model predictive control (MPC) for load frequency control (LFC) of modern power systems, limited works can be found in the literature related to the output feedback MPC. This article studies an N‐step synthesis approach of output feedback MPC for LFC systems considering the problems of communication efficiency and network security. First, to improve the communication efficiency, an adaptive event‐triggering (AET) scheme involving two adaptive laws is designed to reduce the number of transmitted data packages which offers more flexible compared with existing event‐triggering schemes; Second, to handle the network security, a new model of LFC power system combining the AET scheme and random deception attack under an unified framework is established; Moreover, a synthesis approach of output feedback MPC with N‐step strategy is addressed for LFC of power system by parameterizing the infinite control moves into a series of output feedback laws. Compared with the existing predictive load frequency control methods, the present technique is shown as an useful way to improve the control performance since more degrees freedom is introduced by the N‐step strategy. Roboat is an autonomous surface vessel (ASV) for urban waterways, developed as a research project by the AMS Institute and MIT. The platform can provide numerous functions to a city, such as transport, dynamic infrastructure, and an autonomous waste management system. This paper presents the development of a learning-based controller for the Roboat platform with the goal of achieving robustness and generalization properties. Specifically, when subject to uncertainty in the model or external disturbances, the proposed controller should be able to track set trajectories with less tracking error than the current nonlinear model predictive controller (NMPC) used on the ASV. To achieve this, a simulation of the system dynamics was developed as part of this work, based on the research presented in the literature and on the previous research performed on the Roboat platform. The simulation process also included the modeling of the necessary uncertainties and disturbances. In this simulation, a trajectory tracking agent was trained using the proximal policy optimization (PPO) algorithm. Aircraft landing gear equipped with a magnetorheological (MR) damper is a semi-active system that contains nonlinear behavior, disturbances, uncertainties, and delay times that can have a huge impact on the landing's performance. To solve this problem, this paper adopts two types of controllers, which are an intelligent controller and a model predictive controller, for a landing gear equipped with an MR damper to improve the landing gear performance considering response time in different landing cases. A model predictive controller is built based on the mathematical model of the landing gear system. An intelligent controller based on a neural network is designed and trained using a greedy bandit algorithm to improve the shock absorber efficiency at different aircraft masses and sink speeds. In this MR damper, the response time is assumed to be constant at 20 ms, which is similar to the response time of the commercial MR damper. To verify the efficiency of the proposed controllers, numerical simulations compared with a passive damper and a skyhook controller in different landing cases are executed. The major finding indicates that the suggested controller performs better in various landing scenarios than other controllers in terms of shock absorber effectiveness and adaptability. Accurate control of front wheel angle is essential in intelligent vehicle electric‐hydraulic power steering (EHPS) system, because it has a significant impact on the safety, comfort, and reliability of vehicle steering. However, the accurate control of front wheel angle is a challenging problem due to the non‐linearity of hydraulic power in steering system and the uncertainty of steering resistance. In this paper, a model predictive control (MPC) method for front wheel angle based on steering resistance estimation is proposed. Firstly, through theoretical analysis and practical experiment of EHPS system model, the relationship between front wheel angle and steering wheel angle and the non‐linear characteristics of hydraulic power are obtained. Secondly, a sliding mode observer is established to estimate the front axle lateral tyre force and steering resistance, which is verified by MATLAB/TruckSim co‐simulation. Then a controller based on the MPC theory is designed and applied to the accurate control unit of front wheel angle in the EHPS system for real‐time control. Finally, the simulation and test platform results show that the control algorithm proposed in this paper can precisely control the vehicle's front wheel turning angle within a certain frequency range. Electric vehicles (EV) have gained importance in recent years due to environmental pollution and the future scarcity of fossil resources. They have been the subject of study for many years, where much work has focused on batteries and the electric motor (EM). There are several types of motors in the market but the most widely used are induction motors, especially squirrel cage motors. Induction motors have also been extensively studied and, nowadays, there are several control methods used—for example, those based on vector control, such as field-oriented control (FOC) and direct torque control (DTC). Further, at a higher level, such as the speed loop, several types of controllers, such as proportional integral (PI) and model predictive control (MPC), have been tested. This paper shows a comparison between a Continuous Control Set MPC (CCS-MPC) and a conventional PI controller within the FOC method, both in simulation and hardware in the loop (HIL) tests, to control the speed of an induction motor for an EV powered by lithium-ion batteries. The comparison is composed of experiments based on the speed and quality of response and the controllers' stability. The results are shown graphically and numerically analyzed using performance metrics such as the integral of the absolute error (IAE), where the MPC shows a 50% improvement over the PI in the speed tracking performance. With the rapid increase of wind power penetration, the frequency indicators of power system, encompassing frequency deviation and rate of change of frequency (RoCoF), are prone to exceed the pertinent relay thresholds, thus leading to serious power outages. Wind farms can participate in primary frequency regulation (PFR) to alleviate the above problem. However, wind farms reserve capacity (WFRC) presented by overspeed control and pitch angle control is the important factor for frequency safety especially when large disturbance occurs, and it varies obviously in different conditions. Thus, WFRC should be utilized optimally to avoid insufficient or excessive response of wind farms in PFR. To overcome the challenge, this paper proposes frequency‐trajectory‐oriented control (FTOC) for wind farms based on a two‐fold optimization framework, seeking to obtain the best frequency control performances in PFR through realizing the optimal compromise between frequency results and the consumption of WFRC. First, when the frequency indicators deviate significantly from the normal values, the optimal frequency trajectory is planned periodically according to the local standards and operation conditions, thereby minimizing the total consumption of WFRC on the premise of frequency safety. Second, based on model predictive control and a real‐time power system parameters estimator, the total reference power of wind farms, which helps the frequency track the latest planned trajectory, is optimally distributed among wind generators according to their reserve capacity. In this case, through the optimal frequency trajectory planning and tracking, the new method in this paper not only effectively prevents the frequency results from exceeding the local standards under diverse conditions, but also finds the optimal balance among frequency indicators safety, frequency trajectory smoothness, and the reserve capacity consumption of wind power generators.
