Pulp and paper mill effluents represent a significant environmental concern due to the presence of various toxic organic and inorganic pollutants, posing risks even at low concentrations. With the paper production process consuming approximately 200 tons of water per ton of paper and generating effluents containing over 250 different chemicals, effective treatment methods are essential to mitigate the environmental impact of the pulp and paper (PP) industry. This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the efficacy of heterogeneous and homogeneous photocatalytic treatments for PP industry-derived effluents, targeting reductions in major pollutant concentrations below environmental standards. A thorough review of the literature on pollutant removal from PP effluents using photocatalytic treatment, particularly employing UV/TiO2 and UV/ZnO photocatalysts, reveals significant removal rates. Doped photocatalysts have shown enhanced performance, achieving removal percentages of 98 % for BOD and COD, and 99 % for color and lignin. Additionally, Fenton and photo-Fenton treatment techniques have demonstrated high removal efficiencies for BOD, COD, color, and lignin.

Background: The pulp and paper industry (P&PI) is undergoing significant disruption driven by global megatrends that necessitate advanced tools for predicting future behavior and adapting strategies accordingly. Methods: This work utilizes a multi-criteria framework to quantify the effects of digitalization, changes in social behavior, and sustainability as three major megatrends transforming the P&PI industry, with a specific focus on hygiene tissue products. Thus, the research combines a comprehensive literature review, insights from a Delphi study, and topic modeling to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the present and future impacts of these global megatrends. Results: The findings suggest an urgent need to identify alternative raw materials to prevent potential supply chain disruptions. Moreover, due to shifts in social behavior, it becomes critical for businesses to substantiate their sustainability claims with hard data to avoid the risk of a “greenwashing” perception among consumers. Conclusions: This study provides decision support for strategic planning by highlighting actionable insights, quantitative predictions, and trend analysis, alongside the examination of consumer and market trends. It aims to incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives and criteria into decision-making processes, thereby enriching the strategic planning and sustainability efforts within the P&PI industry.

This work adheres to the recommendations for publication in three steps (Marin-Garcia, 2021). We propose a protocol to develop research the objective of which is to analyze the needs and challenges, as perceived by university lecturers, related to teaching, learning, or assessing competencies related to the innovative capacity of students in an array of digital remote teaching contexts. In this sense, we want to consider situations where teachers watch their students interact with each other. The interaction between students can occur face-to-face or remotely and, in the latter case, either synchronous or asynchronous. In addition, teacher observation can be done synchronously (face-to-face or remotely) or by watching a previously recorded video.

AbstractInternationalization makes possible the competitive development of firms. This study proposes a methodology for the selection of international markets that identifies the most favourable international destinations for the paper and paperboard export industry in Colombia. For this purpose, a set of 23 factors divided into 5 categories are defined through literature: costs, trade barriers, logistics, environment and culture, and economy. This comprehensive model is applied to a set of 15 exporting firms and a combination of the multi-criteria models Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) is used for its development. The results indicate that the priority factors when choosing an international market are import costs (0.1974), transit time (0.1392), transport frequency (0.1174) and international transport costs (0.0971). Also, considering these priorities, the most viable markets for companies in this sector are Netherlands (0.9894), the United Kingdom (0.9740), Belgium (0.9409) and Germany (0.9351). The results obtained represent the identification of new possible alternative markets for Colombian companies in the paper sector to expand their international reach and develop in significantly more attractive and convenient markets according to their priorities. Also, this article contributes significantly to the development of methodologies for international markets exploration.

AbstractThe article proposes a conceptual framework to explain how organizational justice can mitigate the negative effects of glass ceiling on women’s career advancement and consequently create an equal ground for women to advance their careers just like their male counterparts. The article uses the Social Role theory and the Rawlsian theory of justice to propose a conceptual model with hypotheses that are backed by logical and theoretical arguments. This conceptual paper proposes that personal, societal, and organizational barriers would have a negative effect on women’s career advancement but organizational justice could positively moderate such a relationship by eliminating the negative effects of glass ceiling and thereby creating equal competitive grounds for both women and men to advance in their career. The paper offers practical suggestions on the need for managers to give the needed attention and importance to the three main dimensions of organizational justice as this has the possibility of ensuring that glass ceiling is reduced to the barest minimum in order to create a conducive environment will be created for both men and women to progress in their career. Thus the paper argues that organizational justice can moderate the negative relationship between glass ceiling and women’s career advancement.

Vietnam’s pulp and paper industry has contributed significantly to socio-economic growth but is also one of the industries with a very high risk of environmental pollution. Stems from the goal of economic growth coupled with environmental protection operations in Vietnam, this study examines the factors affecting the implementation of environmental management accounting (EMA) in manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam’s pulp and paper industries. The data used in the study were collected through survey questionnaires in the form of face-to-face interviews or sent by e-mail or post to survey respondents at 290 manufacturing enterprises pulp and paper in provinces and cities of Vietnam. Survey subjects are managers (directors, deputy directors, chief accountants) and accountants who have knowledge of EMA in these enterprises. The survey results were obtained from 250 valid survey questionnaires used in this study. This study uses Cronbach’s alpha analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and linear regression analysis using SPSS 20 statistical software. The results show that coercive pressure, normative pressure, awareness of the benefits of applying EMA, environmental strategy, managers’ perception, and qualifications of accountants have a positive impact on EMA implementation. In which, coercive pressure has the strongest impact, and awareness of the benefits of applying EMA has the weakest impact on EMA implementation in these enterprises.

Purpose – The paper describes patterns of study on innovation in the regional economic resilience literature regarding methods and findings. Design/methodology/approach – This study is a descriptive one and it uses, as a method, the scoping review based on Scopus and Web of Science databases. Forty-eight theoretical-empirical papers were thematically coded, and analyses were conducted using R packages and MaxQDA. Findings – Innovation has been used narrowly in the regional resilience literature, considering the variables, the types of shocks and the analyzed loci. From the sampled papers, this study suggests that, depending on the operationalization, the addressed relationship can be positive or negative, which still needs further investigation. In addition, the study identified two lines of research. The first, characterized by quantitative research, secondary sources and multivariate analyses, focuses on testing predictive regional resilience models based on innovation-related variables. The second, characterized by qualitative or multi-method approaches, is more concerned with explaining the knowledge accumulation and the learning capacity related to regional innovation. Research limitations/implications – The paper’s findings show a restricted view of the innovation–resilience relationship. Although this study does not present a meta-analysis, it reveals gaps for future research. Some suggestions can be highlighted, such as (1) expanding knowledge about innovation as a predictor of resilience, (2) the theoretical development of this relationship to guide empirical investigations and (3) studies that consider the meso or micro level, approaching the role of actors in fostering innovation in the regional resilience process. Originality/value – This paper fulfills an identified need to investigate how innovation has been operationalized in regional resilience empirical research.

Objective: To provide a working guide which facilitates the accuracy, transparency, and usefulness for academics and practitioners of case report papers as an article type which are fit for publishing in impact journals. In this way, we aim to increase the use and dissemination of recommendations in aid of the writing and publication of case study and action research. Theoretical framework: A case report paper presents a story in narrative form and includes current individual or organisational concerns, situational diagnoses, interventions, outcomes including adverse events, and follow-up. The narrative should include a discussion of the rationale for any conclusions and lessons learned. Method: We analysed the prevalence of these type of articles in publications as indexed in Web of Science (WOS) and in Scopus; we explain how we customised the case report guidelines (CAse REport or CARE) to optimise them for the scientific field of Management focussing particularly on Operations Management and Human Resources Management. We shared for discussion and feedback the adapted proposal among a group of academics and professionals in the field of Management. Outcomes/Implications: Robust reporting guidelines help to improve research performance, reduce bias risk, provide information on the implementation of management practices, support the training of management professionals, and enable informed editorial decisions by journal editors and reviewers.

Purpose: Doing a bibliometric analysis of the papers on Total Quality Management published in Algerian Scientific Journals Platform (ASJP). Methodology/Approach: Following Bibliometric analysis approach that reaches the export of scientific papers from ASJP during 2005-2022 and using Bibiloshiny based on the R language (RStudio). Findings: The study highlighted the prominent authors, universities, and journals, identifying both opportunities and research advancements in TQM research and urging scientific collaboration. TQM practices in different sectors remain a current and relevant research topic, however, the analysis outlined some conceptual structure gaps within particular areas. The outputs provide insights and suggestions for scholars and practitioners in the field of TQM. Research Limitation/Implication: The study examines only papers published in ASJP until 2022. Findings could be useful for TQM stakeholders in emerging countries. Practitioners benefit from experiments to deal with the TQM method. Originality/Value of paper: In Algerian context, the study’s substantive contribution denotes that Industrial and Health care Areas constitute knowledge and empirical gaps in the TQM field; for future, researchers should exploit key words used by prominent authors; the TQM performance and higher education are the most explored topics as Motor themes; organisational culture as emerging theme had grown interest need exploration; total quality or continuous improvement themes are important for the TQM research require further works.

As it is environmentally sensitive, the pulp and paper sector carry out social and environmental actions to mitigate the negative effects of production. Socioenvironmental evidence is the strategy that companies use to demonstrate social and environmental actions; therefore, this study aims to analyze the evolution of socioenvironmental evidence of Brazilian pulp and paper companies. To this end, the content of the sector’s sustainability reports, published in the Global Reporting Initiative database, was analyzed. Data were processed through descriptive statistics and multiple factor analysis. The results show that the pattern of evidence is similar among companies. The environmental category was the most evident; however, there was a decline in disclosure levels from 2013, especially for the product responsibility category.

Considering the cognitive, random, uncertain, and flexible constraints, a robust, stochastic, possibilistic, and flexible chance-constrained model was developed based on credibility measurement. The ultimate aim was closed-loop supply chain network design. Different attitudes of decision-makers were answered by more flexible measurements of optimistic and pessimistic parameters in the form of credibility measurement. The model has been able to reduce the possible deviation, stochastic deviations, non-fulfillment of demand and capacity constraints, and violation of flexible constraints, which simultaneously include cognitive and random uncertainties and flexibility of constraints in the model. To apply the model, a case study was conducted to design the closed-loop supply chain network of multi-product and multi-period stone paper. The results of implementing the model showed that in different situations and according to the importance of decision makers' opinions, using the range of optimism and pessimism, the number, location of facilities, optimal flow of products and materials between centers in the stone paper supply chain network can be determined. The proposed model was evaluated using robustness and sensitivity analysis, and its performance was evaluated using nominal data in the realization model, which results showed the appropriate performance of the model.

Now companies around the globe are using Big Data for market analysis, customer analysis, however, the utilization of Big Data is much higher in the financial sector, yet publications on Big Data and finance are limited because of having significant challenges. Even though utilization of Big Data is highest in the financial sector and its importance cannot be ignored, the studies and analysis are inadequate. Considering the importance of Big Data in the financial sector this paper is an attempt to conduct a comprehensive literature review in the field of Big Data and finance. Thus, the study will contribute to the body of knowledge by providing horizons for empirical research in the field of Big Data and finance.

AbstractSolid waste management has become one of the critical environmental concerns in developing countries. Information and communications technology have revolutionized traditional organizational management processes, increased efficiency, and significantly reduced paper use. The recruitment process in higher education institutes (HEIs) includes job applications and certificates of degree, and previous job-related documents. Such recruitment policies are causing paper waste and need the attention of policymakers. This study aims to provide empirical evidence for a policy shift that can have a broader impact on the environment. The current study aims to contribute to the existing research by considering the traditional recruitment approaches of public sector HEIs in Pakistan as a source of solid waste. The study highlights the previously disregarded aspect of the research on solid waste and explores the traditional practices of government-owned HEIs that lead to excessive amounts of paper waste. A mixed-methods approach is performed to confirm this hypothesis. We observed newspaper advertisements and then floated a questionnaire among employees of the HEIs. Findings confirm that traditional recruitment is one of the primary antecedents of paper waste generation. Results suggest that technology-driven recruitment reduces paper waste and leads to sustainable development.

A multi-modal search space can be defined as having multiple attraction basins – each basin has a single local optimum which is reached from all points in that basin when greedy local search is used. Optimization in multi-modal search spaces can then be viewed as a two-phase process. The first phase is exploration in which the most promising attraction basin is identified. The second phase is exploitation in which the best solution (i.e. the local optimum) within the previously identified attraction basin is attained. The goal of thresheld convergence is to improve the performance of search techniques during the first phase of exploration. The effectiveness of thresheld convergence has been demonstrated through applications to existing metaheuristics such as particle swarm optimization and differential evolution, and through the development of novel metaheuristics such as minimum population search and leaders and followers.

In real applications of data envelopment analysis (DEA), there are cases in which undesirable outputs are produced along with desirable outputs in such a way that the total sum of the produced undesirable outputs over the production units must be fixed and constant. In this case, a trade-off between the decision-making units (DMUs) is needed to balance the production of undesirable outputs. In a rational sight, this trade-off is done in such a way that all DMUs improve their relative performances. In this paper, a single DEA-based model is proposed to model fixed and variable-sum undesirable outputs in production processes. A common equilibrium efficient frontier is constructed and after reallocating the input/output factors, all decision-making units (DMUs) prevail as efficient. A real case of 32 paper mills in China is given. The results of the analysis demonstrated that some economically developed paper mills have better performance than less developed paper mills; in particular, all efficient paper mills are the developed ones. Purpose: As a conceptual paper, this article presents the idea of crowdfunding activities, crowdfunding being not only a modern tool of fundraising but also an interesting form of establishing relationships with stakeholders. The primary aim of the article is to show the role of crowdfunding in the process of creating relationships with customers. Design/methodology/approach: The article has been divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the definition of crowdfunding as a form of raising funds and provides examples of selected campaigns. The second part presents the process of establishing relationships during crowdfunding campaigns. The author applied a qualitative approach to meet the research objectives. Moreover, the concept formulation was done through a systematic literature review. Findings: The emotional involvement of consumers in a crowdfunding campaign constitutes a significant element in relation building and may be developed at any stage of the conducted campaign. Specific characteristics support building relations with consumers (openness, involvement, curiosity, willingness to share information, emotional connection, spontaneity, familiarity with other consumers). A major argument is the fact that during such campaigns relations are built on trust, openness and involvement. Research limitations/implications: The model was completely built based on the literature. Thus, as a further step of this research the author strongly suggests conducting research with a quantitative approach. Furthermore, the author stresses that the presented concept requires empirical verification and such research is planned in the future. Originality/value: This article analyzes crowdfunding activity in view of building relationships with customers. Thus, the author of the article shares the new knowledge and suggests the process of building relationships with customers by critically illustrating the created conceptual model.

Purpose: Islamic, as well as modern literature, on the issue of halal/haram (permissible and prohibited), primarily circulates around the product’s ingredient aspect, categorizing a particular object specifically into one of the mentioned dichotomist heads. On contrary to the usual individualistic consumer/product-centric approach, this paper discusses several macros, systems-level models, which follow the top-bottom approach. Methodology: A discourse, through conceptual framework analysis, this paper discusses the concept of halal and haram, to understand the nature and antecedents to the concepts as narrated in the revealed texts of Quran and Hadith. Findings: It is proposed that although the terms of halal and haram are elaborated extensively in literature, there are several gaps in the understanding of the concept at the systems level. Therefore, this paper presents a comprehensive understanding through conceptual framework of halal/haram using the conceptual analysis method, which grounds into Islamic literature to trace the phenomenon’s major concepts and dimensions at various systems levels, such as society and environment. Conclusion: The research would enrich the understanding of how the Creator has created filters to provide the believers the best to consume and balances the cosmic systems through commandments to individuals, compliances to which supplement and support the Islamic lifestyle and Islamic social structure and sustained global development.

This work protocol form part of a three-phase publication (Marin-Garcia, 2019). Its objective is to establish a work procedure to answer these questions: 1) in which journals have articles about Operations Management with Partial Least Squares (PLS) been published?; 2) Do the results of previous reviews on this topic still prevail based on the very limited set of journals that it have been conducted (and before substantial modifications were made to report methods of PLS-based studies)?; 3) Do recent articles fulfil report recommendations; 4) What kind of measurement model has been considered for the constructs most frequently used in the selected articles?; 5) What are the usual R2 values in the cross-sectional studies represented in the selected articles?; 6) Within what statistical power range do the relations analysed with PLS fall? The article summarises current recommendations to select the analysis procedures and to report the research works that have used structural equations with PLS. We believe that this is an excellent contribution for researchers because it helps to improve the analyses and reports that derive from using PLS to, thus, increase the probabilities of them being accepted in relevant journals. Another contribution made by the present work, apart from establishing the aforementioned protocol, is to provide a list of the recent articles about operations management that have used PLS and the coding procedure to conduct our systematic review (to be subsequently published).

Bu araştırmanın amacı, turizmde coğrafi işaretli ürünler alanında yazılmış bildirilerin bibliyometrik olarak incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın evrenini, Türkiye’de 2013-2017 yılları arasında düzenlenmiş turizm kongrelerinde sözlü olarak sunulan tam metin bildiriler oluşturmaktadır. Nitel olarak tasarlanan araştırmada verilerin çözümlenmesinde betimsel analiz yöntemi benimsenmiştir. Araştırma ile beş yıllık dönemde 26 farklı turizm kongresinin altısında coğrafi işaretler temalı yalnızca dokuz bildiri tespit edilmiş, bu bildirilerin ortaya konmasında 18 farklı yazarın katkı sunduğu belirlenmiştir. Kongrelere en çok bildiri ve yazar ile katkı sağlayan üniversitenin Mersin Üniversitesi olduğu; bildirilerin %55,6’sının iki yazar tarafından ortak olarak gerçekleştirildiği; %22,2’sinin en az iki farklı üniversitede çalışan yazarlar tarafından üniversiteler arası akademik araştırma olarak tamamlandığı belirlenmiştir. Bildirilerin tamamının “Sürdürülebilirlik” teması altında “Bölgesel Turizm Kalkınmasında Coğrafi ve Yerel İşaretlemenin Rolü” konusunda yazıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Veri toplama yöntemi açısından bildirilerde nitel araştırma yöntemi (%77,8) ile literatür tarama tekniğinin ağırlıklı olarak kullanıldığı; yaklaşım bakımından %44,4’lük eş oranda hem keşifsel hem de betimsel olarak tasarlandığı; alan araştırması olması yönünden yarısından fazlasının (%55,6) uygulamalı olarak gerçekleştirildiği; veri analizinde ise %92,3 betimsel ve %7,7 ilişkisel istatistikler kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir. The aim of the research is investigate bibliometrically proceedings written in the field of geographical indications in tourism. The research population consists of full text papers that are presented in tourism congress between the years of 2013-2017 in Turkey. In this qualitatively designed research, descriptive analysis has been adopted for the accessed data. Nine papers on geographical indications themes were found in 26 different tourism congresses in five years’ period and it was determined 18 different authors contributed to the presentation of them. The results show that Mersin University has contributed most to the congresses in terms of the number of authors and papers; 55.6% of them were made cooperatively by two authors; 22.2% of papers have been completed as academic research between universities by authors working in at least two different universities. It has been found that the all of the papers were written on the subject of the “Role of Geographical Marking in Regional Tourism Development” and under the theme of “Sustainability”. In terms of data collection method, qualitative research method (77,8%) and literature review are mainly used; in terms of approach the both of 44,4% are explorative or descriptively designed; more than half (55,6%) of the papers written as in the field research; and in terms of data analysis, it was determined that 92.3% descriptive and 7.7% relational statistics were used for papers.

This study proposes a decision model for privatization of newsprint paper industry. Newsprint paper has very demanding market requirements, ones that must be adapted in quality and quantity with consumers’ media preferences. In Iran, there is one newsprint paper producer that supplies 70% of domestic use. Privatization of this producer will enable increased production and reduce the necessity of imported newsprint. Four possibilities are examined as possible solutions: Encouragement for investment; Reformation of rules and regulation; Reformation of firms’ structure; and Liberalization of prices. The Analytical Network Process was used to synthesize and analyze the model. A value-weighted competency model was calculated with the influence of external factors on the competency model. Paired comparison matrices associated with the degree of importance of each of the competencies were achieved. Finally, subsets of competencies’ weighted values and their suboptions were identified through combination of the competencies and the best solution was obtained.

In the modern conditions, business requires constant rationalization of all activities and processes that occur in the logistics system. One of the preconditions for ensuring the competitiveness in the market is to manage the own performance. This paper presents research that relates to the project of centralization of the warehouse in the company of paper production. Currently, any production facility has its own warehouse that is, through executed decomposition, proved like a poor solution. Any project requires certain investment funds, which are in this case over half million EUR, because it is a large and complex logistics company that employs about one thousand workers. The focus of this paper is an economic analysis of the project of centralization of warehouse. The new centralized system gives better results in the comparison with the current system of decentralization. Considering the savings, which are realized by switching to a centralized warehouse system, and required investment funds, repayment period of the same is slightly less than five years, what is relatively a short period.

Existe una abundante bibliografía acerca de en qué consiste la comunicación académica, cómo se debe investigar y el protocolo para comunicar lo investigado. Sin embargo, no es inusual encontrarte como editor o como revisor, trabajos que, independientemente de su valía como investigación, están pobremente presentados. En este artículo me gustaría resumir algunos de los errores comunes que cometen los investigadores que no están habituados a escribir artículos científicos y mostrar algunas pautas de solución a esos errores. (As editor or reviewer is common to find work, regardless of their value as research, are poorly presented. This is true even though there is abundant literature on what constitutes scholarly communication, how to investigate and the protocol to communicate research. In this article, I summarize some of the common mistakes that researchers who are not used to write papers do. And I show some guidelines to fix these errors.)

The global resource consumptions are in advanced day by day nevertheless world has limited sources, which should be used for boundless needs of humanity. Due to the fact that governments and the firms are try to find the way to make the sources sustainable. Recycling is one of the best ways to make sources renewable. For this purpose, the main aim of the study is to determine the effect of container location and communication medium on waste paper quantity. Experimental design was performed in two tiers to achieve this aim. The study was applied in Cag University and t-test was conducted to the obtained data. According to the score of t-test results H1 and H2 are statistically significant. Based on these results, the proximity of containers and the use of communication medium are positively effect on waste paper quantity.

In the present manuscript, novel effluent treatment processes for pulp and paper mill effluents are divided into two categories: a) those involving the use of chemical additives and b) those which are free of such chemicals. It is especially of high importance for pulp and paper industry to adopt the most efficient and cost-effective treatment methods. This paper critically reviews the recent studies on the treatment of pulp and paper mill effluents while providing suggestions for further studies on the application of various physic-chemical and biological methods for the treatment of such complex effluents containing a number of recalcitrant pollutants. Recently, new technologies regarding water and wastewater treatment have been developed and among these processes, the fixed bed biofilm reactor combined with membrane bioreactor is the recent alternative solution to conventional technologies. In this research, an integrated fixed bed membrane bioreactor (FBMBR) with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 36 h was developed to remove pollutants from real paper-recycling wastewater. The removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonium, nitrite, nitrate and total nitrogen (TN) for permeate and supernatant were in the range of 92–99%, 59–97%, 78–97%, 59–98% and 68–92%, respectively. In addition, the membrane fouling was evaluated by transmembrane pressure (TMP) monitoring during experimental period at a constant flux of 12 l m−2.h−1, and the TMP increasing rate was 2 mbar/day. The results as a whole indicated that the FBMBR can be applied effectively to removal of pollutants from real paper-recycling wastewater. The concept of antifragility has received much attention from researchers in recent years. Contrary to fragile systems which fail when exposed to stressors, antifragile systems prosper and improve in response to unpredictability, volatility, randomness, chaos and disturbance. The implications of antifragility goes beyond resilience or robustness. A resilient system resists stress and remains the same; while an antifragile system improves. Taleb argues that antifragility is required for dealing with events that he called black swans or X-events, which are scarce, unpredictable, and extreme events. Such events come as a surprise and have major consequences. The concept of antifragility was developed by Taleb in a socioeconomic context, not in industrial production. However, the authors think that this concept may have its greatest practical utilization when applied to industrial environments. Thus, they focused on this concept in the article aiming to investigate the level of antifragility in an organization. In order to perform this, the authors used a case study based on an Iranian manufacturer of banknotes and security paper (TAKAB). Firstly, a questionnaire was designed based on 7 criteria related to antifragility using the five-point Likert scale and a triangular fuzzy number for each linguistic term is defined. In the next phase, the weight of each component was obtained using the entropy technique. In the final stage, the Euclidean distance between the aggregated fuzzy antifragility index (FAI) and each linguistic term used during this case study was calculated. Finally, based on these results, the level of the organization's antifragility was assessed as satisfactorily antifragile, based on the minimum Euclidean distance. (original abstract)

Human capital and employees’ performance are recognized as the premium key resource for organisational competitiveness. However, changes in global finance and organisations are affecting many organisations, including public sectors. Albeit changes, employees across sectors are constantly required to sustain accountability towards performance. Thus, to survive changes while sustaining competitive advantage, organisations and its employees are recommended to initiate new practices and behaviours. For example, the current financial’s condition restricted the public university libraries' abilities to better serve the community. To accommodate this situation, public universities are recommended to practice self-funding, despite their anticipating role as a public service provider. This direction creates dilemma to micro units such as the libraries, which existence is solely to serve its community. The libraries are constantly criticised as a cost centre and being opted to cease service as its functions may be replaceable by other information provider such as Google. Thus, it is important that, the librarians must voluntarily make efforts to re-tool their current competencies and revise their patrons’ preferences as well. The efforts are critically needed if the librarians desire to survive the changes and stay relevant. Thus, this paper postulates a multi-construct antecedents, which consist of entrepreneurial inclinations which may be useful. The overarching theory is based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour and Resource Based View. This paper reviews literatures associated with the constructs and recommend the advantages of applying it accordingly. It is hopeful that this investigation will contribute additional knowledge on the influence of those constructs towards individuals’ work performance as well as adding optional information.

The study was motivated by the novelty of Gamification and the possible impact of its growth in the marketing space. It synthesizes information gleaned from gamification literature, to isolate common themes in order to produce a set of researchable propositions that can in turn be quantitatively tested, and to link those common themes to well-known academic grounding theories in order to advance further understanding of the concept. The study was based on the review of available literature on gamification and on the five theories that are deemed relevant for better understating of the gamification industry, and concludes by giving a list of propositions and suggesting a research framework which shows the linkages between access to gamification technology, customization of technology, congruence between expectations of gamification instigators and users, communication between companies with gamified interventions and customers, the attractiveness of the gamification technology, and the feelings of reciprocity as perceived by customers. The proposed framework, in turn, shows how these variables are related to getting people motivated to adopt gamification as a marketing tool. As the study was based on available literature, it shares the limitations contained therein. The increasing pressure on natural resources and the climate has been noted by businesses and governments worldwide, who now face the difficult task of integrating paths of environmental sustainability and economic growth. One promising approach to sustainable development, reducing the pressure on natural resources and solving waste problems is circular economy. From different ways of implementing circular economy, this study focuses on the productization of industrial side streams, which carry a great deal of underutilized potential. In this article, the productization of pulp and paper industry side stream, fiber sludge, for commercial use as a dust-binding agent is studied via a descriptive, in-depth case study. Apart from inconsistent quality, fluctuating supply, cost of storage and logistics, what makes industrial side stream utilization challenging is the lack of knowledge that stakeholders have about side streams and their utilization and the lack of new value chain development for their commercial use. Therefore, it is essential for all parties involved to have a clearer vision of what is being sold for what purposes, through productization. This study found that the productization of side streams follows the same steps as the productization of any other traditional product, and the productized side streams can be added to the company’s product portfolio as by-products.

The aim of this study is to use material flow cost accounting (MFCA) to assess the level at which cleaner production (CP) can improve both environmental and economic performance of an organization. Higher energy and raw material prices are causing CP to grow in relevance and importance. The amount of waste to landfill is increasing steadily. Most companies are using inefficient processes and technologies that are obsolete resulting in higher production costs, which, in turn, affect their profitability and competitiveness. This study was a case study based on a paper manufacturing company using an exploratory qualitative and quantitative research methodology. The MFCA approach was used to assess the efficiency of the steam production process using coal-fired boilers. The results indicated that the process was inefficient resulting in significant negative environmental and economic impact. Environmental costs were hugely underestimated by management, as non-product output costs were not included as part of environmental costs calculated by company. Benefits and barriers to CP was also brought to the forefront at the conclusion of this research.

A multi-modal search space can be defined as having multiple attraction basins – each basin has a single local optimum which is reached from all points in that basin when greedy local search is used. Optimization in multi-modal search spaces can then be viewed as a two-phase process. The first phase is exploration in which the most promising attraction basin is identified. The second phase is exploitation in which the best solution (i.e. the local optimum) within the previously identified attraction basin is attained. The goal of thresheld convergence is to improve the performance of search techniques during the first phase of exploration. The effectiveness of thresheld convergence has been demonstrated through applications to existing metaheuristics such as particle swarm optimization and differential evolution, and through the development of novel metaheuristics such as minimum population search and leaders and followers.

The objective of this article is double: firstly is to show the standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 evolution and secondly evolution and situation in the pulp and paper sector during the last years. We would like to investigate why this decrease and what are the tendencies for the future. The methodology used to elaborate this publication is to study the different ISO's graphs evolution and project them to the future using mathematic logical models to see their tendencies. In other hand, we make a qualitative questionnaire to six pulp and paper companies, trying to obtain common results and to observe the tendency.

Assuring the quality of a product is a big problem for all companies. Statistical process control is the main quantitative tool used in TQM. For monitoring the process some statistical process control techniques are used. The most important tool for monitoring the process is quality control chart. Control charts are used in analysis of process changes. Main subject of this study is to construct a quality control chart for offset printing machine in a printery company. Because of the fact that there are some problems in the machines with respect to the color shifting and paper thickness in the output, this study aims at analyzing the production process for decreasing the shifts and the variation in paper thickness. An offset printing machine in the company is selected for constructing the quality control chart. This work focuses on 54*72 Heidelberg offset printing (2 Colors) brand printing machine and paper thickness in Advertising and Printing Company.

Tourism economy appears in every sphere of economy: production of goods and services, their division, exchange and consumption; it also occurs in the majority of the national economy branches that directly or indirectly deal with meeting tourist demand. The majority of economic processes in tourism sector are realized by direct tourism economy and its representatives, tourist entrepreneurs. Territorial self- government units and tourist organizations play a significant role in formation of economic processes in tourism sector on the regional and local levels. The classic economy distinguishes three basic production factors: labor, land and capital. In the modern approaches they are completed with the fourth that has different names. Beginning with technical and organizational progress which is a logic extension of coexistence and cooperation of three basic factors, ending with information and knowledge – treated as the most modern factors of production in the so-called new economy. In the totality of activities of tourism economy entities, a special role should be ascribed to the personnel, namely human potential of tourism economy entities.

Nowadays, managers try to use scientific methods to increase the quality of goods, and simultaneously reduce their final prices as well. Condition Monitoring (CM) is one of the methods which has been popular among industrial managers in recent years and of course it has provided many benefits for organizations. Analyzing the vibrations is one of the condition monitoring methods, and by using it we can avoid rework, and reduce the company's costs considerably. To show this effect for efficiency improvement of production process, Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industries has been selected as a case study, and the vibration analysis, one method of the conditions monitoring has been applied. In this research, we have shown how to prevent stoppages and damages of the equipment by in-time awareness and by imposing preventive repairs. Secondly, considerable conservation in consumption of parts and manpower will be achieved for repairing and maintenance of equipment in order to guide the organization toward efficiency improvement.

This article proposes a 4-step model for scientific dissemination that aims to promote evidence-based professional practice in Operations Management or Human Resource Management as well as research with a more transparent and reproducible process. These 4 steps include:1 social network announcements,2 dissemination to scientific journals, 3 dissemination to social networks, and 4 scientific dissemination to professional journals. Central to the 4-step model is a three-stage publication process within the second step, which adds an additional stage to the two previously proposed (Marin-Garcia, 2015). These three publication stages begin with a protocol paper, are followed by a data paper, and finish with a traditional article. Each stage promotes research with merit which is citable and recognizable as such before the scientific evaluation bodies. As two of these stages are largely unknown within the fields of Business and Management, I define the details of a protocol paper and a data paper including their contents. In addition, I provide examples of both papers as well as the other steps of the science dissemination model. This model can be adopted by researchers as a means of achieving greater impact and transfer of research results. This work intends to help researchers to understand, to evaluate, and to make better decisions about how their research reaches society at large outside of academia. In this way, WPOM aligns with the recommendations of several leading journals in the field of business management on the need to promote transparent, accessible, and replicable science (Beugelsdijk et al., 2020). WPOM goes one step further in compliance with this direction by having relevant journals that not only accept, but also actively encourage the publication of protocol papers and data papers. WPOM strives to pioneer in this field of Business and Management. This article also explores the potential prevalence of protocol papers and data papers within the set of all articles published in journals indexed in Clarivate Web of Science and Scopus. With this editorial, WPOM is committed to promoting this model by accepting for review any of the three types of scientific contributions including protocol papers, data papers, and traditional papers.
