Understanding information and communication technology (ICT) adoption's particular effects on a nation like Bangladesh is critical because ICT adoption continues to play a significant role in promoting economic progress globally. By analysing the relationships between ICT use and economic growth in Bangladesh, this study examines data from 2002 through 2021 using a time series analysis. ICT export, gross capital formation, mobile cellular subscriptions, government budget allocation, and foreign direct investment are just a few of the independent variables the study takes into account in relation to ICT adoption. These factors were selected based on their applicability to the adoption of ICT and their potential impact on economic expansion. According to the results of the time series research, the ICT sector's growing exports have a favourable and considerable impact on long-term economic growth. Mobile cellular subscriptions negatively affect economic growth, with significant short-term impact and insignificant long-term effect. The influence of the government budget is detrimental but insignificant for both long-term and short-term economic growth. The study comes to the conclusion that Bangladesh's economic development is significantly benefited by the adoption of ICT. The study also highlights the significance of government assistance through budgetary allocation and strategies that draw in foreign direct investment. The sustainable growth of Malaysia’s economy is important to ensure full employment and efficient allocation of national resources. This empirical study is motivation driven to ascertain the relevant economic dynamics that can significantly affect national gross domestic product (GDP). Using quarterly secondary data from 2015 to 2022, we employed the Johansen-Juselius cointegration test as an estimation tool. The results revealed that net foreign direct investment (NFDI) is a significant economic factor that influences national income over, both, short- and long-run. As such, this external economic factor is one of the key determinants in underpinning the effectiveness of Malaysian government’s fiscal policy. This article has examined the impact of selected macroeconomic variables on economic growth in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral, Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). Thus, quarterly data have been considered over a period from 2000 to 2021. The study has taken into consideration the Cobb-Douglas production function as a model specification to examine the above issue. It has been found that agricultural production is an important macroeconomic determinant to justify economic growth in BIMSTEC and its members. However, foreign direct investment is a significant macroeconomic factor for economic growth in BIMSTEC and also in India. International tourism and foreign direct investment (FDI) constitute the bedrock of economic vitality, propelling growth and progress in the economies. This study delves into the intricate relationships among international tourism, FDI, and economic growth within the context of Thailand. Nevertheless, a tourism development index is created by pooling distinct components of global tourism to evaluate the aggregate effect on economic growth. Using data from 1991 to 2021 and the ARDL bound testing approach to cointegration, this study indicates that international tourism and FDI have long-term positive impacts on Thailand's economic growth. The sensitivity and stability tests were used to assess the robustness of these results. This study examines the short-run and long-run impacts of foreign aid and remittances on economic growth in a panel of 31 African countries from 1980 to 2019 utilizing the ARDL Pool Mean Group (PMG) estimation technique. The PMG is utilized based on the outcome of the Hausman test which justifies it appropriateness. There is long-run association among the regressors and the regressand in the model. Our results indicate that, in the short-run, remittance and foreign aid respectively have a negative impact on economic growth but that impact is statistically insignificant. In the long-run, however, remittances have a positive and significant impact on economic growth while foreign aid has a positive but insignificant effect on economic growth on the continent. These results have substantial policy implications. African governments should adopt effective policies to maximize the usefulness and effectiveness of foreign capital, such as foreign aid and remittances, in boosting economic growth. This study employed an innovative spatial econometrics approach to analyze the spillover effects of foreign public debt and foreign direct investment (FDI) on regional economic growth dynamics of Eastern Africa. Specifically, we utilize Spatial Durbin Fixed Effect (SDM-FE) Model, drawing on balanced panel data from the World Development Indicators (WDI) for the period 1992-2019. This study contributes by utilizing a spatial weight matrix and investigating its interactions with economic growth and various other macro-regional factors, thereby unveiling the presence of spatial spillover effects and the impact of geographical proximity of countries within the region. Our results indicate that foreign public debt, FDI, gross fixed capital formation, human capital development, inflation, and government expenditure, significantly have spatial spillover effects on regional economic growth. Additionally, the results underscore the presence of regional growth divergence and provide further evidence of substantial regional spatial dependence in economic growth. Based on these outcomes, it is evident that foreign public debt has a negative impact on economic growth, which is consistent with the debt overhang theory and the crowding-out hypothesis. Moreover, the foreign public debt and regional growth policies should be devised considering the geographical interconnectedness between countries in the region, as the research output has revealed the impacts of growth and debt spillovers among the countries studied. Policies that prioritize these objectives would promote long-term regional economic growth and prevent the effects of excessive foreign public debt by creating a favorable macroeconomic climate. Background: Recent years have witnessed a growing interest among academics and policymakers in understanding the mechaninsms through which Chinese outward direct investment (OFDI) impact economic growth in Africa. Method: This study utilzes a dataset spanning 41 African countries from 2005 to 2020,employing panel‐corrected standard error (PCSE) and quantile regression. Objective: This study explore the mechanisms through which Chinese OFDI stock contributes to economic growth in Africa,with a particular focus on financial development and transport infrastructure. Results: The results indicate a significant and positive impact of the interaction between Chinese OFDI stock and both financial development and transport infrastructure on economic growth. The subregional analysis reveals varying correlations across regions, while the quantile regression analysis demonstrates a stronger effect on economic growth as we move to higher quantiles. Conclusion: The study underscores the importance of enhancing infrastructure and financial sector development to attract more Chinese OFDI and maximize its positive impact of economic growth in African nations. Hence, we recommend that African countries improve the infrastructure and financial sector of their country to attract more chinese OFDI and also enhance its effectiveness on their economic growth. This study examines the important manifestations of economic globalization, such as increased international trade, inward foreign direct investment (FDI), and air passenger transport (PAX) on economic growth and environmental quality in Southeast Asian countries. The results of data analysis for the period 1990–2019 using the panel autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) have confirmed the long run impact of these factors on economic growth and environmental quality (the reduction of CO2 emissions into the environment per unit of production) in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, international trade and PAX positively affect economic growth in both groups of lower-middle-income countries and upper-middle and high-income countries. Inward FDI, however, only has a positive effect on economic growth for the group of lower-middle-income in the short run. In the long run, it has a negative impact. On the other hand, when the manifestations of economic globalization increase, they lead to an increase in CO2 emissions, but there is a decrease in this ratio per unit of production in the long run and in most countries in the short run. This paper investigates the impact of Foreign Direct Investment inflows on economic growth in Türkiye. The study covers the period from 2006 Q2 to 2019 Q4. Time series datasets obtained from the CBT and FRED database are used for statistical analyses, including ADF, PP, Zivot Andrews Unit Root Tests, the ARDL bounds testing approach, and the Granger Causality tests, to fulfil the empirical part of the study. Based on the obtained findings, it was confirmed that, Foreign Direct Investment inflows have a positive impact on economic growth in Türkiye. For the purpose of this paper, we examine the association between foreign direct investment, openness to trade, infrastructure, innovation, and economic development in 10 members of the Commonwealth Independent States between 2000 and 2020 using a panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag model. According to the results, none of the elements that are researched for this paper has a statistically significant influence on economic growth over the short term. On the other hand, in the long run, each of the variables, including foreign direct investment, infrastructure, innovation, and trade openness, has a statistically favorable and substantial impact on economic growth; furthermore, the findings are in line with the findings of the baseline static panel data models. This paper investigates the economic and institutional determinants of Taiwan's outward direct investment in six Southeast Asian countries from 1998 to 2017, applying the panel ARDL--Pooled Mean Group estimation. We specially examine the effects of institutional quality with five dimensions inclusively, using the Worldwide Governance Indicators. The results show the locational economic factors are the primary determinants in the long run. The tight and historic trading relation with Southeast Asia has a long-run positive effect. On the contrary, the institutional quality of the host countries has strong positive effects in both the long run and short run. Further, the paper displays the dynamics of this investment in the last 20 years. Economic growth characterizes the quantitative changes that occur in economic variables and attributed to overall increase in production per capital. This study examined the economic impact of exchange rate, foreign direct investment, inflation rate and the trade balance on Nigeria GDP over the period of 1970-2022. The dynamic causal association among the selected macroeconomic variables and economic growth in Nigeria was evaluated via the implementation of vector error correction model (VECM) procedures and impulse response functions. The VECM estimates and the impulse response shows that the response of GDP to inflation and exchange rates is positive while the response of GDP to a one period shock to the trade balance yields a marginal negative depreciation. The result justifies that the place of Exchange rate, Inflation and Trade Balance to Nigeria economic growth cannot be overstated. The results of the work suggest that to promote stable and sustainable economic growth, policy makers should lay more emphasis on encouraging stable and reasonable exchange rate. Also, the work recommends that to promote economic growth and keep inflation low in Nigeria, Anti-inflationary policies should be accompanied to attract foreign investors and frustrate capital fleeing from the country. This paper aims to investigate the impact of innovation on three macroeconomic indicators: GDP, self-employment, and foreign direct investment (FDI). The study analyses a sample of 120 countries using the Global Innovation Index (GII) and its constituent sub-indices and pillars, which provide a holistic evaluation of national innovation. Gross domestic product (GDP) per capita measures a country's economic output, self-employment assesses entrepreneurial activity, and FDI indicates confidence in a country's economic prospects and innovation trends. This study analyzes the data using generalized-linear and panel-corrected standard-error models. The results show that innovation positively influences GDP, domestic institutional framework, local infrastructure, local knowledge and technology, and creative outputs. In contrast, innovation negatively correlates with domestic self-employment, often associated with necessity-driven entrepreneurship. The study concludes that innovation positively affects human resources, research, and creative outputs and has no significant impact on FDI. The findings suggest that a practical regulatory framework, institutional support, domestic human capital, research and development, infrastructure, technology, and creative outputs are essential for a vibrant economy. National innovation policies supporting the GII and its constituent factors can positively affect the economy while reducing self-employment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this study is to empirically investigate the impact of foreign direct investment on economic growth of Ethiopia by using a time series data for the period 1992–2019. Other explanatory variables like trade openness, human capital, national saving and gross capital formation were incorporated in the model. For the purpose of undertaking the study, Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) econometric model was employed. Moreover, a Toda-Yamamoto Causality test was performed to identify the direction of the causality between economic growth and foreign direct investment. Findings from the study show that, both in the short run and long run, foreign direct investment has a positive and significant impact on economic growth. As an outcome of Toda-Yamamoto Causality test shows, there is a unidirectional causality running from economic growth to foreign direct investment. On the basis of the findings, recommendations are made for the government authorities to expand infrastructural facilities for enabling a free movement of the investors to the remote and marginalized areas to further expand investment activities that result in higher economic growth. This paper investigates the impact of mining foreign direct investment on economic growth in Ghana using quarterly time series data from 1996–2015. The study employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag bounds testing approach to cointegration and the error correction model to investigate the existence of a long-run and short-run equilibrium relationship between foreign direct investment into the mining sector and economic growth. The study established that foreign direct investment into the mining sector hurts economic growth in Ghana in the long run but a positive in the short run. The study also finds that private sector credit, capital stock, government spending, and labour participation rate have a statistically significant positive relationship with economic growth in the long run. Trade openness exhibited a statistically significant negative long-run relationship with economic growth, while inflation had a positive but insignificant impact on economic growth for the study period. The study recommends that government should encourage research and development in the mining sector and align mining and other environmental policies to ensure sustainable growth. It is further recommended that government tactfully provide investment incentives to ensure the development of other sectors to avoid the Dutch disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

International remittances remained one major source of international financial resources in the world. Yet very limited empirical studies exist on the impact of these remittances on economic growth, more especially in Ghana. To bridge this void in literature, the study analyzes the impact of remittances on GDP growth in Ghana from 1990 to 2020. The ARDL estimation technique was used to test the long-run association between the selected variables. The results showed that GDP growth rate has a long-run relationship with remittance inflows, foreign direct investment, unemployment rate, inflation, trade, population growth rate and official development assistance. Lastly, the mediating effect of unemployment on remittance inflows negatively affects GDP growth rate in both runs. It is therefore recommended that to ensure sustained GDP growth rate in Ghana, government should consider tapping into the contribution of remittances by ensuring reliable transfer means and cutting down the cost of transfer. Economic freedoms are essential for the growth and development of countries, but their distribution varies across nations, resulting in differences in economic growth. This study aims to explore the impact of economic freedoms on economic growth, measured by gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow, by examining the influence of institutional quality. Economic freedom indicators were obtained from the 2022 report by the Heritage Foundation, and GDP per capita and FDI indicators were sourced from the World Bank report. This study employs multivariate regression analysis to investigate the relationship between economic freedoms and economic growth. The findings suggest that economic freedoms have a positive effect on both GDP per capita growth and FDI inflow. Government integrity was found to be the primary indicator for GDP per capita growth, while Business freedom was identified as the key factor in attracting FDI. The implications of these results are significant, as they can inform policy decisions aimed at improving the standard of living by increasing GDP per capita and creating employment opportunities through FDI. By using spatial econometric models, this paper studies the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and regional spatial factors on economic growth of 63 provinces in Vietnam over the period 2007–2018. Results show that, after controlling for the important factors of the growth model (human capital, physical capital, and institutional quality), FDI inflows have a rather limited direct and indirect impact in boosting economic growth of localities in Vietnam. Results from the estimation of spatial variables show three especially interesting key points: i) there is a close relationship in economic growth and economic shocks among neighbouring provinces; ii) capitals from state sector and domestic non-state sector of neighbouring provinces have a positive impact on economic growth in the host province; and iii) surprisingly, there is a trend of competition among neighbouring localities in attracting not only high-quality human resources but also in terms of untrained human resources. Each economic factor generates both positive and negative externalities regarding environmental quality. Owing to this, the current study aims to explore the impacts of various economic variables on the environmental quality of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. By sampling the 24 years (1996–2019) financial statistics of six GCC region countries, we investigate the impact of economic growth, foreign investment, trade volume, tourism investment and revenue, and electricity production on CO2 emissions. The empirical analysis is based upon dynamic least square and fully modified ordinary least square model due to the existence of cointegration. Following the results, economic growth, foreign investment, tourism investment, electricity production, and population density have a positive impact, while trade volume and banking development have a negative impact on the volume of CO2 emissions. The results support the pollution haven hypothesis in the GCC region and have many policies for environmental economists regarding the protection of the natural environment in the long run. In parallel to economic growth, the policy officials from the GCC region should focus on environmental sustainability. They should exert more effort for developing sustainable economic growth policies. The correlation between uncertainty and economic growth is an interesting research topic that has attracted different views from many scholars. The present study aimed to empirically analyse the linkages among numerous uncertainties, such as; the uncertainty index (UI), the consumer price index (CPI), foreign direct investment inflows (FDI), trade openness (TO), innovation (INNO) on economic growth (GDP) in the ASEAN-5 countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, The Philippines and Thailand between 1960 and 2020. The association between economic growth and its determinants over the longand short-term was estimated using the pooled mean group (PMG) panel autoregressive distributed lag (ADRL) technique. The findings showed that all computed coefficients had predicted signs and were statistically significant in the long run. In addition, economic growth was significantly impacted by FDI and the uncertainty index, both in the short and long term. The uncertainty index, CPI, FDI, innovation, and economic growth, thus, had a unidirectional relationship. On the other hand, no reciprocal relationship existed between trade openness and economic growth for the ASEAN-5 nations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The present study aims to investigate the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) by exploring the role of various economic factors including economic development, foreign investment, human capital, energy dependency, financial development (FD), etc., in CO2 emissions. Design/methodology/approach: For empirical analysis, the samples for the years 2001–2019 of six GCC region countries that apply the fully modified ordinary least squares model were utilized. Findings: The statistical results show that economic development, foreign investment, energy dependency, human capital and oil rents have a direct impact on CO2 emissions, whereas trade liberalization and FD have an indirect impact. Nonetheless, the empirical analysis rejects the EKC hypothesis in the set of GCC region countries. The empirical findings in connection to the basic premises of the EKC model are found to be statistically constant for the linear relationship. The GCC region is rigid regarding CO2 emission because of its reliance on main energy sources like oil and gas. Research limitations/implications: The current analysis directs the policy recommendations about environmental sustainability to environmental economists and other policymakers. The development of such policy instruments as the adoption of contemporary technology and reduced reliance on fossil fuels is advised to mitigate the negative externalities of multiple economic factors. Similarly, future studies should focus on trade liberalization and FD, both of which have a declining trend in CO2 emissions. South-East European countries rely heavily on remittances and FDI as external sources of financing. Hence, an investigation of the behaviour of remittances and FDI during the business cycle and their impact on economic growth is of crucial importance. To achieve this objective, we first analyse the cyclical nature of remittances and FDI flows in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, and Serbia (SEE6) during their business cycles in the 2008q1-2021q2 period. Second, we investigate the causal link among these variables, and find out that although at the aggregate level remittances and FDI move synchronously and in the same direction as the business cycle, there are considerable variations across countries. Following Dumitrescu-Hurlin Panel Granger causality test, we find that for most SEE6 there is a bidirectional causal relationship between remittances and economic growth, i.e. economic growth is caused by remittances, and GDP growth also stimulates remittances. This study aims to identify the factors that influence economic growth for 16 countries located in Central and Eastern Europe, from 1995–2019. To obtain the research results, panel data analysis was used, based on econometric models that test the influence of human capital, foreign capital, and domestic capital on economic growth. The analytical data were collected from international databases (i.e.,the World Bank, IMF, and OECD) for the countries included in the study, considering the analyzed period. This paper analyzes the contribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) to economic growth in Côte d'Ivoire, for the period 1980–2019. We use the World Development Indicators (World Bank) database. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) cointegration approach results show that, in the short and long-run, FDI negatively impacts economic growth in Côte d'Ivoire. We conjecture that these results are due to the predominance of extractive FDI in Côte d'Ivoire. Indeed, the extractive sector is weakly linked to the national economy and is subject to practices of fraud and corruption. Our results also show the importance of education (human capital) in the country's economic growth. All of these findings suggest the need for selective FDI attraction policies, the integration of the enclave extractive sector into the national economy and the strengthening of the education system for a more efficient human capital capable of absorbing and using new knowledge and high technologies transferred by FDI. Continuous improvement of the business environment is important for countries seeking to benefit from increased trade and investment through regional integration. Creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and expand has become a new concept in international development organizations, and a good business climate allows good ideas to take root, which leads to the creation of jobs and better lives for host countries. The main objective of this study was to investigate the impact of business regulations on FDI inflow and economic growth in East Africa region using data collected from the World Bank spanning from 2010–2019. The study finds that dealing with construction, enforcing contracts, getting credit, getting electricity, paying tax and protecting minority investors have a significant impact on FDI inflow in the region. While enforcing contracts, getting credit, protecting minority investors, resolving insolvency, starting a business and trade across borders have a significant impact on economic growth in the region. Moreover, each additional reform during 2010–2019 is associated, on average, with a 3.09% increase in FDI inflows and 2.24% increase in GDP in East African countries. The findings of this study will help policy makers in the region to establish a strong legal framework of business regulations to attract FDI inflow into their economies, to adjust their ease of doing business procedures to attract FDI to their economies and to promote regional economic growth. High energy production is the global requirement that is the demand of high economic growth in the country and needs regulators and recent researchers' emphasis. Therefore, the current study examines the impact of economic factors such as gross domestic product (GDP), national income, employment rate, foreign direct investment (FDI), and inflation and technological advancement on energy production in China. The present article has used the secondary data extracted from World Development Indicators (WDIs) from 1976 to 2020. The present research has employed the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lagged (NARDL) model to explore the association among the understudy constricts. The findings revealed that all the economic factors such as GDP, national income, employment rate, FDI, inflation, and technological advancement have a significant and positive association with energy production in China. This paper examines the influence of foreign direct investments on the economic growth of the Republic of Srpska. The goal of the research is to show the scientific and professional public the mechanism of foreign direct investments in the function of growth and development, as well as the impact on targeted macroeconomic indicators. The research was conducted by analysing the relevant literature, using the deduction method and quantitatively calculating the impact of foreign direct investments on the economic growth of the Republic of Srpska. Theoretical and empirical analysis aimed to provide an answer to the research problem, which is sublimated by the question: Do foreign direct investments have an impact on the economic growth of the Republic of Srpska? The research results showed that there is no consistent connection and determination of the dependent variable with the variations of the independent research variable. That is, the cumulative value of the inflow of foreign direct investments didn’t generate a statistically significant impact on macroeconomic indicators of economic growth. In this way, the hypothesis that foreign direct investments, due to the unfavourable sectorial structure of investments, do not have a significant impact on the economic growth of the Republic of Srpska was confirmed. The contribution of the research is reflected in the choice of the analytical framework of the research and the obtained research results as a guideline for the creators of economic policies in the Republic of Srpska, in terms of factors that have a (de)stimulating influence on economic growth. Economic development is associated with higher energy consumption, which has a direct impact on climate change. As a result, today's growth policies should also align with environmental sustainability goals. Although socioeconomic variables related to air pollution have been extensively studied in previous studies, little research has examined their long- and short-term effects. This study aimed to investigate the long-run and short-run relationship between carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, energy consumption, especially gas as a clean fuel, foreign direct investments (FDI), and gross domestic product (GDP) using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model in Iran during the period of 40 years. The estimation results indicated the validity of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis for Iran. Moreover, empirical findings illustrate that the impact of financial growth on CO2 emissions, in the long run, is U-shaped in Iran. The reliance on gas as a fuel for the country led to a reduction of the carbon and ecological footprints in a short time compared to other polluting fuels. Further, our empirical results indicate that economic growth and foreign direct investment contribute to reducing pollutant and carbon emissions in Iran over long and short periods. This paper analyses the gender-, age- and educational attainment level-specific output–employment relationship and its dependence on foreign direct investment (FDI). The unbalanced panel covers 25 European Union countries' data from 2000 to 2020. Empirical estimations are made using the pooled OLS estimator. The impact of FDI on gender-, age- and educational attainment level-specific output–employment elasticities is estimated by including the multiplicative terms between gross domestic product (GDP) and FDI in regression models. The main results indicate the positive impact of economic growth on employment, with the highest output–employment elasticities for males and youth regardless of gender. The estimation results also indicate limited abilities of economic growth to increase the employment of highly educated people and females older than 25 years regardless of their educational attainment level. Our results suggest that higher FDI level in the host countries is mostly associated with the decreasing employment reaction to economic growth. Although FDI is an important factor affecting the output–employment relationship, it does not help to solve the problem of unemployment in the EU, especially for youth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyses the intensity of the influence of foreign direct investments, exports of goods and services, and research and development expenditure on GDP growth of developed and developing countries. Panel regression analysis determined that the exports of goods and services make the largest contribution to growth on middle levels of income. In fact, the contribution the export of goods and services makes to growth on middle levels of income is two times larger than in countries with a high GDP. The most essential impact on countries with a high GDP level was made by research and development expenditure, which is 3.5 times larger than its impact on the developing Balkan countries. The phenomenon of the Middle-Income Trap can be explained by insufficient research and development expenditure. Foreign direct investments are not statistically significant for the GDP growth of observed countries, but they achieve far better results on low development levels. The purpose of this research is to estimate the dynamic impacts of foreign direct investments (FDI) and exports on economic growth in Peru (1970–2020) using annual series. Starting with the theoretical Mundell–Fleming static model with assumptions, we find that the change in exports does not affect GDP, and the effect of FDI on GDP can be positive or negative depending on the comparison between the slopes of the IS and LM curves. The variables are foreign direct investment net flow (% of GDP), exports of goods and services (% of GDP), and GDP growth rate (%). FDI and exports constitute first-order integrated processes; meanwhile, the GDP growth rate is a stationary process. The Granger causality evidences feedback between GDP and exports and the FDI-led growth hypothesis. Considering the dependent variable GDP growth rate, the autoregressive distributed lag cointegration bound test shows the findings regarding the cointegration consist of positive long-term equilibrium impacts from exports and FDI on GDP. Estimating an error correction model, in the short-term, the FDI explains to GDP and the exports have an insignificant impact on economic growth in Peru. This paper empirically examines how financial sector development affects the FDIeconomic growth nexus in Guyana. The novelty is that we examine the relationship in a poor, Small Island Developing State (SIDS) with an underdeveloped financial sector, and where the bulk of FDI flows to the extractive sector. Using annual data from 1981 to 2014, and, both a VECM and ARDL framework that distinguishes among long-run and short-run causal impacts, we provide new insights on why FDI may have a smaller impact on economic growth in SIDS or resource-rich countries. Specifically, we find that FDI dampens long-run growth in Guyana, which is consistent with the extractive literature, but through interaction with the financial sector, FDI has a positive offsetting effect at all levels of financial development in the period under study. While our findings have several nuanced policy implications on how to maximize the developmental potential of FDI in Guyana, they may be relevant to other SIDS or resource-rich countries. Purpose - Tourism and FDI have contributed to a large extent to Central and Eastern European economies in recent decades. This paper investigates how successfully these two engines of growth have been stimulating the growth of these economies. Design/methodology/approach - Using a Pooled Mean Group estimation, this study investigates the short- and long-term effects of variations in the GDP shares of tourism and foreign investments on the economic growth rate. Findings - The results suggest that while tourism expansion is more effective in the short run, FDI has a significant positive impact on economic growth only in the long run. Originality - A new aspect of the present study is a comparison of the magnitude of the impacts of the GDP shares of international tourism and foreign investments on the economic growth rate in both the short and long run in the case of Central and Eastern Europe. This research aimed to identify and evaluate the impact of some macroeconomic components on economic growth performance. The data applied in the analysis were secondary data, including six countries from 2005 to 2020. The econometric approach applied was the fixed effect regression approach to economic growth as a dependent variable. The study also applied several diagnostic tests and the Hausman test to select between fixed and random effects. The data provided after the analysis show that inflation and foreign direct investment have a significant positive impact, while public debt has a significant negative impact. Moreover, unemployment and population growth have shown statistically insignificant results. The study from the aspect of the original contribution provides arguments and applies two variables that are very little addressed in the context of economic growth. This paper investigates the moderating role institutional quality plays in foreign direct investment led growth hypothesis in Nigeria from 1984 to 2018 using autoregressive distributed lag estimation technique. Specifically, the study contributes to the literature by using seven different institutional indicators to moderate the effect of foreign direct investment on economic growth. The findings reveal that foreign direct investment has no direct (positive) effect on economic growth in Nigeria. However, the interactive effect of institutional indicators with foreign direct investment has significant impact on economic growth in most of the models. This implies that institutions serve as important absorptive capacity that needs to be strengthened for the country to benefit maximally from the growth effect of foreign direct investment. This paper highlights the policy aspects of India and China, in the context of consensus building on bilateral trade, which is the cornerstone of diplomatic and political ties between the two countries. India and China have witnessed uninterrupted economic development with a significant rise in bilateral trade because of protrade policies in the last few decades. In this backdrop, this paper examines the dynamic spillovers of India–China's bilateral trade on the economic growth of the two countries. For the purpose, Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model in multivariate framework is utilized with gross capital formation (GCF) and foreign direct investment (FDI) as two additional explanatory variables. The results highlight that the India–China bilateral trade share has significant long-run impact on the growth of GDP per capita (GDPP) of the two countries, while the impact is more pronounced for China. The growth rates of the two countries are found significantly cointegrated with the variables in question. This paper explores the advantages of international trade and foreign direct investment (FDI), which can be the main factors of transferring technology to economies. More specifically, it seeks the importance of international trade and FDI as the main channels of technology transfer between countries either in a region or at the international level. In this context, relevant spillovers arising from trade and FDI play important roles in achieving economic growth, capital accumulation and economic well-being, providing a path for sustainable development. The main goal of this paper is thus to investigate the possible implementation of regional economic through cooperation in trade and investment in a region such as the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). Accordingly, the country members can benefit from spillover effects on their economic growth, as a major factor to appoint sustainable development. The relevant methodology relies on estimation of a panel economic growth model in which we have used the obtained empirical results to assess the effects of trade and FDI spillovers on economic growth over the period 1995–2018. The empirical results have indicated significantly positive effects of the spillovers on economic growth of the ECO country members, as the case study, implying sustainable growth in the long run. The economic growth of most developing countries has been abysmal, and, therefore, has attracted the attention of researchers and policy think tanks. The present study contributes by estimating the impact of different forms of capital inflows on economic growth with evidence from Ghana. The study further examines the interaction effects of these inflows and quality of institutions on economic growth. The capital inflows considered in the study are foreign direct investment, remittances, foreign aid and external debt. Using annual time series data, spanning 1984–2018, the autoregressive distributed lag model is employed for the analysis. The results without interaction terms show that remittances have a positive impact on economic growth, whereas external debt and foreign direct investment impact economic growth negatively in the long run. Foreign aid exerts an insignificant impact in both the short and long run. However, the results reveal that external debt significantly impacts economic growth positively when interacted with quality of institutions variable in the long run. The results further reveal that remittances have a positive impact on economic growth in the long run when interacted with quality of institutions variable. It is, therefore, concluded that the quality of institutions in Ghana is crucial for economic growth. Purpose: International tourism and FDI inflows have generated detectable beneficial impacts on the economy of Estonia in the last decades. However, recently, poor international market conditions mostly caused by the trade war and COVID-19 pandemic have been a potential threat to these two factors. Besides, the poor performance of investments in recent years is behind the stagnation of productivity in Estonia. This study examines the dynamics of the effects of these factors on the rate of economic growth in Estonia and provides policy implications in line with sustained recovery. Design/methodology/approach: A nonlinear ARDL technique is employed in this study to investigate the long-run effects of FDI and the degree of tourism specialization on economic growth rate. Findings: Our findings indicate that the economic growth rate of Estonia in the long run has been positively affected by both the rate of FDI inflows and international tourism. Originality/value: This is the first study that employs a non-linear approach to investigate the dynamics of long-run effects of FDI and tourism specialization on the rate of economic growth in Estonia and provides policy implications in line with optimal growth strategy considering the economic structure, the current level of productivity and available potentials in this economy. The nexus between foreign direct investment and economic growth has long been among the most debated issues in macroeconomics. Some studies find a positive link between the two factors, but others find no evidence. This current research fills the gap by analysing the causal nexus between foreign direct investment and economic growth in Indonesia for the period 1970-2018. Indonesia as a developing country is one of the largest recipients of FDI flow; hence the study on the impact of FDI on the economic growth is very much important. This current research employs a contemporary time-series procedure, involving several unit-root tests namely Augmented-Dickey-Fuller (ADF), Phillips-Perron (PP), Kwiatkowski-Phillips-Schmidt-Shin (KPSS), and Lee-Strazicich (LS), an Auto-Regressive-Distributed-Lag (ARDL) bounds-testing method for cointegration, and Granger causality test. The findings provide evidence of long-run and short-run causal direction from GDP to FDI. In contrast, FDI generates only a short-run relationship on GDP. Globally, the outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) has significantly increased during recent years. In the light of OFDI's role in determining the GDP growth rate, it is necessary to assess how economic growth rate responds to such outflows. Based on the non‐linear autoregressive distributive lag (NARDL) model, the present study investigates the long‐run and short‐run asymmetric impacts of OFDI on the economic growth in Romania covering the period 1990–2019. The results indicate that both an increase and a decrease in OFDI have a positive and significant impact on Romania's economic growth, with a greater effect arising from the increase in OFDI. Our research adds to the preceding literature by providing new insights into the OFDI‐led growth hypothesis. The results of the present study portray the growth‐enhancing effects of OFDI, which are consistent with the notion that firms conduct OFDI in order to combine domestic output with overseas output to decrease expenditures and to enhance their competitiveness both at global and domestic levels. Since 1991 Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) has been continuously contributing towards the economic development of Indian economy. On the basis of various literature review it can be said that foreign direct investment contributes positively towards growth domestic product(GDP) growth and employment generation in the developing countries like India. Therefore, the present study is conducted to analyse the role of the foreign direct investment on the economic growth of India for the sample period 1992 to 2019. In the study the economic growth is represented by the variables like gross domestic product(GDP) and employment generation in Indian for the time period 1992-2019. For the study various econometric tools like Augmented Dickey-Fuller(ADF) unit root test, Granger Causality test, Ordenary Least Square(OLS) regression method, Johansen Cointegration test and Error Correction test are applied. The ADF unit root test reflects that all three variables i.e GDP, FDP, and employment are stationary at 1st difference I(1). The result of Granger causality test between Foreign Direct Investment and Gross Domestic Product shows unidirectional causality from economic growth to foreign direct investment in India. But The Granger Causality test shows no casual relationship between foreign direct investment and employment generation. The OLS regression analysis shows a positive relationship between FDI and GDP in India with R square value 0.886177. But the relationship between FDI and number of employment generation is not significant as it has the P value 0.3559. Johansen Cointrgration Test shows a long run positive relation among GDP, FDI and employment generation as both trace statistic and eigen value statistic reject the null hypothesis at 5% level of significance. The result of Error Correction Model(ECM) shows that the speed of adjustment among the variables toward long run is 25.5 percent per year. As FDI has positive impact on the economic growth in India so the government of India should take various policies to attract the foreign investors to India and Increase the FDI inflows. The foreign and domestic investments have a significant contribution towards economic development for developing and developed economies especially for underdeveloped economies. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the causal connection between domestic and foreign private investment along with its impact on economic growth of Pakistan. Moreover, time-series data has been used from 1980 to 2017 and autoregressive distributed lags (ARDL) method is implied for the data analysis perspective. The long-run findings indicate that foreign private investment has a negative and insignificant impact on economic growth, whereas, domestic investment shows a statistical significance but positive impact on Pakistan economy. The short-run dynamic designates that both domestic and foreign private investment is significantly and positively associated with the growth rate. Whereas, error correction term (ECT) is correcting the disequilibrium of data 42.7% on annual basis. Finally, F-test shows that the overall model of this study is statistically significant. This paper examines the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on host country's economic growth for a group of 45 developing countries for the period 1990–2014. Using the pooled mean group (PMG) regression method, we estimate the long-run and the short-run impact of FDI inflows on growth rate of GDP per capita. The PMG regression results suggest that the growth rate of GDP per capita and its covariates are cointegrated, implying the presence of a long-run equilibrium relationship among the variables. Our results suggest that FDI inflows have significant positive impact on economic growth of the recipient countries both in the long-run and in the short-run. We find that the long-run effect of FDI inflows on economic growth is higher in the emerging market economies as compared to the non-emerging market economies.
