Despite increasing digitalization and automation, complex production processes often require human judgment/decision-making adaptability. Humans can abstract and transfer knowledge to new situations. People in production are an irreplaceable resource. This paper presents a new concept for digitizing human expertise and their ability to make knowledge-based decisions in the production area based on ontologies and causal Bayesian networks for further research. Dedicated approaches for the ontology-based creation of Bayesian networks exist in the literature. Therefore, we first comprehensively analyze previous studies and summarize the approaches. We then add the causal perspective, which has often not been an explicit subject of consideration. We see a research gap in the systematic and structured approach to ontology-based generation of causal graphs (CGs). At the current state of knowledge, the semantic understanding of a domain formalized in an ontology can contribute to developing a generic approach to derive a CG. The ontology functions as a knowledge base by formally representing knowledge and experience. Causal inference calculations can mathematically imitate the human decision-making process under uncertainty. This paper examines the impact of digital technologies and tools on business communication in the contemporary business environment through the prism of new communication channels. Every technological breakthrough throughout history has altered the way people communicate, beginning with the discovery of the printing press, telegraph, radio, and television. In the fifth industrial revolution and contemporary environment, business communication becomes increasingly focused on current digital technologies and tools. Traditional communication, which was inherently slow, is being phased out in favor of interactive and quick communication. Communication through modern digital technologies and tools has many benefits, but it also has some drawbacks, including the possibility of misunderstandings and conflict. This paper discusses the digital age’s key communication channels, including smart mobile phones, short messages (sms), multimedia messages (mms), voice mail, Viber, WhatsApp, iMessage, Skype, Google Hangouts, Slack, teleconferences, video conferences, e-mail, intranet, organizational social and professional networks, and various business communication applications. Besides from their essential characteristics and advantages, this paper highlights key limitations that should be considered in order to eliminate or lessen misunderstandings and conflict situations. Computers and other digital communication media have replaced paper and pencil from the writer's desk. This development has confronted special collections with a problem, as digital papers are difficult to process using established digital preservation strategies, because of their individual and unique nature. According to the proposal suggested in this paper, the creators should instead be involved in the preservation process, and special collections should integrate pre-custodial forms of curation within their range of tasks. The article outlines the use of a cloud architecture as a suitable instrument for accomplishing this task. The benefits and the prospects for such a collection cloud are exposed and discussed. This paper describes the research published during the period 2011-2020 by five leading Spanish peer-reviewed journals of communication, aiming to identify the most common theoretical frameworks and standard theories. A statistically representative sample of the articles published during that period was systematically selected from the five journals of communication ranked as having the greatest continuity and impact according to SJR-Scopus: Profesional de la Información, Comunicar, Communication & Society, Estudios sobre el Mensaje Periodístico and Revista Latina de Comunicación Social. A coding protocol that includes 13 variables and 74 categories was defined and applied to compare the type of theoretical frameworks and the theories in the different subject areas observed. The results show that although almost all the papers studied have a theoretical framework, fewer than half are grounded on recognizable theories. Specifically, journalism and digital communication are the two subject areas whose articles frequently include standard theories: in journalism by the support of classical theories of communication (framing, agenda setting, journalistic professional cultures and roles), and in digital communication by the support of more theoretically dispersed frameworks. Purpose: This paper refines the Digital Media–Arena (DMA) framework to address the diversity of stakeholders contributing to the production, (re)appropriation and (re)distribution of organisational messages in digital environments. It also presents a case analysis for the purpose of demonstrating the applicability of the revised conceptual framework to a critical situation. Design/methodology/approach: Grounded in key public relations, corporate communication and strategic communication research, this study first extends the DMA framework by introducing six new forms of media-arenas. Next, the study takes a public sector perspective to analyse the revised framework against a critical situation involving the Finnish prime minister in summer 2022. Findings: The application of the revised DMA framework to analyse the critical situation shows the importance of mapping and understanding diverse discourses across multi-arenas and their communication role in a rapidly unfolding scandal surrounding the prime minister of Finland. Findings also reveal the diversity of stakeholder voices forming their own versions of organisational messages and sometimes converging organisational messages within and across DMAs. Practical implications: The DMA framework can offer practical suggestions to guide communicators to make strategic choices in what, where, how and with whom they can communicate. Originality/value: The revised DMA framework contributes expanding the field's knowledge of the strategic communicative use of the digital environment in typically highly volatile and multi-vocal situations by offering instrumental understanding of the conflicting challenge between subjugating and liberating organisational messages across the digital spectrum. Improving the printability of paper is still a relevant challenge, despite the fast development of digital communications. While it is well-known that cationic starches enhance ink density, their commercial paper-grade forms are limited to ethers with low degree of substitution. This work addresses the underexplored potential of highly substituted cationic starch for paper coating and its combination with tri-block polymers, namely Pluronics (P123 and F127), taking advantage of their supramolecular interactions with amylose chains. For that purpose, cationic starch ether and ester (starch betainate), both with a degree of substitution of 0.3, were synthesized by alkaline etherification and by transesterification, respectively. Paper without any surface treatment was subjected to one-side bar coating with suspensions encompassing those products and Pluronics, besides other common components. Black, cyan, yellow and magenta inks were printed on all coated papers through an inkjet printer. Key properties of printing quality such as the gamut area, gamut volume, optical density, print-through, inter-color bleed and circularity were measured in a controlled temperature-humidity environment. For instance, a formulation with cationic starch (ether/ester) and P123 improved the gamut area by 16–18% in comparison to native starch-coated paper sheets. Interestingly, the individual assessment of each component showed that cationic starch ether, starch betainate and P123 only improved the gamut area by 5.6%, 8.9% and 6.8%, respectively. Finally, but not less importantly, starch betainate was found to quench optical brightening agents to a lesser extent than cationic starch ethers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the digital economy's impact on rural household consumption upgrading. Existing studies remain mainly at the level of rural consumption scale and rarely address the consumption structure. The specific impact of the development of the digital economy on rural consumption upgrading and its mechanisms of action deserves in-depth study and consideration. We analyzed the related content using the fixed-effect model, the instrumental variable method (IV), the mediation effect model, and three-year panel data from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). This study found that, at the scale level, the digital economy contributes to expanding rural household consumption. At the structural level, the digital economy significantly increases the share of enjoyment-oriented household consumption but has no significant effect on development-oriented consumption. Income is an important transmission mechanism for the digital economy to improve rural household consumption. This article investigates the different shapes in which reading and writing practices occur when paper/pen are compared with keyboard/screen. The focus is on the bodily aspects of these practices. Reading and writing are viewed as techniques of the body, which over the years have become increasingly mediated by technologies. The analysis is grounded in the theory of social practice. Research material consists of written essays collected from 25 students at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, in 2013. Results show that paper as material is considered suitable and adaptive to numerous reading purposes and bodily positions, while regarding the screen the places and positions of reading are viewed as more limited due to the material boundary conditions presented by devices. Students describe handwriting as a more flexible and relaxed bodily practice than typing, although the worsening skills of handwriting are recognized too. Skills and competences turned out to be less decisive factors than materials and images when trying to explain the differences in reading and writing practices when a paper/pen is compared with a keyboard/screen. This paper discusses digital neighbourhood communication in rural areas and its effects on local communal life. Therefore, survey data as well as guided interviews of residents in Metelen, county Steinfurt (Germany), are analysed. The results indicate that using digital neighbourhood platforms in rural communities intensifies contacts and further strengthens the feeling of social participation.However, digital neighbourhood contacts do not facilitate relationships concerning analogous material exchange, such as lending items. Furthermore, the analysis of the qualitative interviews shows that digital neighbourhood communication is used in the organisation of community life, presents local activities, and simplifies the organisation of local customs. All in all, those digital structures are mainly used for information purposes. Consequently, digital neighbourhood relations must be regarded when developing and organising future public services, although a functional usage is required to achieve a successful outcome. The present study aims to measure the contributions of Prof. Anurag Kumar, who served as the Director at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru between August 2014 to July 2020. He has contributed 181 publications during his 36 years of career. He has published his majority of publications 171 (94.48%) in collaboration; most active collaborators with Prof. Anurag Kumar are Altman E. with (17) publications, Kuri Joy (15), Anand (14), and Singh (12). His highest Collaboration Coefficient found is 0.73 in 2013, and the highest Modified Collaboration Coefficient is 1.33 in the year 2018. The highest degree of collaboration observed for Prof. Anurag Kumar was 1.00. The highest Collaborative Index of Prof. Anurag found is 4.75 in the year 2016. His publications received 2595 citations so far, with 14.3 citations for each publication and an average citation of 72.08 per year. He has produced most of his publications in the field of computer science (45.9%). He preferred conference papers as his communication channel, where he published 100 (55.24%) papers out of 181. The article reports the development of Bangle computing and its transformation from paper to digital stage. After the independence of Bangladesh, the government of Bangladesh decided to use Bangla in all government offices. Nevertheless, there was no Bangla typewriter available. One had been developed by the Remington Company, but it had many drawbacks in the key layout, and it was never accepted in Bangladesh. The newly established government at once imported a large number of Munir/Optima Bangla typewriters from Germany that used the Munir keyboard developed by Prof. Munir Chowdhury in 1969. At the same time personal computers began to be used as dedicated terminals for phototypesetting. Apple computers were used to develop Bangla characters as phototypesetters. Linotype used sophisticated software to go beyond 256 ASCII codes and could write Bangla perfectly with only 327 codes. World languages got a new life when Macintosh computers were introduced in January 1984, creating a unique opportunity for all non-Roman languages to be on the computer screen. Together with Page Maker software and MacWrite, Postscript language, and LaserWriters, Macintosh successfully started the DTP revolution in Bangladesh.

This study uses three archiving efforts at the New York Times as a means to analyse the newspaper as an archival object. I study the traditional 'morgue' of physical clippings and photos, the Times' joint project with Google Cloud to digitize its photo collection, and the TimesMachine interactive digital archive, which made scanned editions of printed issues from 1851 to 2002 publicly available online. Based on interviews with staff and analysis of documents describing past and present newspaper archiving practices, it is clear that the digital archive is not a comprehensive copy of an analogue original. There are a significant number of documents stored in physical archives that have not been translated to digital, and whose loss would be detrimental to historians and media scholars alike. Moreover, even the documents that have been scanned and made available as digital objects do not perfectly mirror their analogue equivalents, meaning that information loss is inherent to the digitization process. As active producers of the past for contemporary purposes, these online news archives serve as cultural gatekeepers, actively shaping journalistic practice and reframing current events in reference to the past. The digital trunking system has the characteristics that the calling mode is mainly group calling and the communication mode is mostly half duplex. For the problem that the traditional user classification method couldn't meet the classification requirements of digital cluster users, this paper proposed a digital cluster user classification method based on improved RFM model. Firstly, it introduced the average speech duration attribute to establish the recency vitality speak (RVS) model. Then, it used the analytic hierarchy process to determine the weight of each parameter in the model. Finally, it used the K-means + + clustering algorithm to classify digital cluster users. The simulation result shows that, by using the user classification method proposed in this paper, the accuracy of digital cluster user classification can reach more than 87. 9% . For the security problem of the spread of digital image and the digital image encryption from plaintext and too depend on the chaotic systems, this paper proposed a digital image encryption and monitoring algorithm combined with plaintext-related chaotic mapping and SHA-256. The algorithm used the SHA-256 algorithm to calculate the hash value as record to monitor the spread of digital image. Lorenz chaotic mapping generated the corresponding cryptogram by using forward diffusion, associated plaintext scrambling and backward diffusion to encrypt the digital image. This letter presents two results for multiuser wireless systems employing dirty-paper coding strategies along with greedy scheduling over the broadcast multiple-input multiple-output channel. Specifically, an efficient and suboptimal downlink scheduler is proposed to approximate the maximum sum rate using equal power allocation, and it is shown to approach the maximum sum rate of optimal power allocation for a large number of users under optimal scheduling. Abstract: This paper described a convenient semiquantitative method for colorimetric detection of protein with self-calibration integrated on the test strip. Hydrophilic paper was employed as microfluidic device for running colorimetric assay, tree-shaped design was developed to ensure uniform microfluidic flow for multiple branches. The approach was validated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) colorimetric detection, and colorimetric results observed by naked eyes were consistent with that from apparatus. Scientists of many countries in which English is not the primary language routinely use a variety of manuscript preparation, correction or editing services, a practice that is openly endorsed by many journals and scientific institutions. These services vary tremendously in their scope; at one end there is simple proof-reading, and at the other extreme there is in-depth and extensive peer-reviewing, proposal preparation, statistical analyses, re-writing and co-writing. In this paper, the various types of service are reviewed, along with authorship guidelines, and the question is raised of whether the high-end services surpass most guidelines' criteria for authorship. Three other factors are considered. First, the ease of collaboration possible in the internet era allows multiple iterations between the author(s) and the 'editing service', so essentially, papers can be co-written. Second, 'editing services' often offer subject-specific experts who comment not only on the language, but interpret and improve scientific content. Third, the trend towards heavily multi-authored papers implies that the threshold necessary to earn authorship is declining. The inevitable conclusion is that at some point the contributions by 'editing services' should be deemed sufficient to warrant authorship. Trying to enforce any guidelines would likely be futile, but nevertheless, it might be time to revisit the ethics of using some of the high-end 'editing services'. In an increasingly international job market, awareness of this problem might prove increasingly important in authorship disputes, the allocation of research grants, and hiring decisions. Cloud computing is one of the latest and greatest environments for delivering Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS) in digital communications infrastructure. Cloud computing helps the user remotely access the required service as needed through the Internet. But this technological advancement, due to its remote availability in the cloud, leads to new attacks. One of the biggest threats to cloud infrastructure is Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) flooding attacks. DDoS flooding attacks are clearly trying to exploit the availability of services for a legitimate user. An attacker gains access to a large number of computers (i.e., botnets) by exploiting the vulnerabilities, and then uses the botnets to initiate an organized attack with a large number of targets. This paper analyses the latest methods for detecting and preventing Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. This article responds to the 2014 American Political Science Association Annual Conference’s theme of “Politics After the Digital Revolution.” It first gives a brief assessment of how the discipline of political science has reacted to the digital revolution. It then seeks to couch the putative revolution in Thorstein Veblen’s theory of a “machine process” in order to recast it less as a discrete phenomenon to be dealt with by the discipline, but instead as part of an evolutionary process of social change that instils habits of mind of those who are subject to it, and who in turn, influence the machine process itself in a co-determinant manner. This article offers the synthesis of Veblen and the Frankfurt School to theorize how the digital revolution might be critically assessed in its evolutionary framework, and speaks towards an evolutionary critical theory for analysing political society beyond discrete events. With the rapid development of wireless communication technology, modulation signals are more and more intensive in the same frequency. Time-frequency overlapped signal over co-channel widely exists in the shortwave, ultrashort wave and satellite channels, so the research on the time-frequency overlapped signals in non-cooperation receiver is of great significance. This paper firstly studies on blind estimation of amplitude of time-frequency overlapped signals. On the basis of deep analysis of cyclic stationary characteristic in the time-frequency overlapped signals, an amplitude estimation method of time frequency overlapped signal over co-channel based on four-order cyclic cumulants is proposed. The magnitude of the signal components is estimated by using the amplitude value of four-order cyclic cumulants of overlapped signals in certain cyclic frequency. And then an initial phase estimation method based on four-order cyclic cumulants is proposed in this paper. Experiments are conducted to verify the proposed parameter estimation method of time-frequency overlapped signals in this paper. A memoryless bivariate Gaussian source is transmitted to a pair of receivers over an average-power limited bandwidth-matched Gaussian broadcast channel. Based on their observations, Receiver 1 reconstructs the first source component while Receiver 2 reconstructs the second source component both seeking to minimize the expected squared-error distortions. In addition to the source transmission digital information at a specified rate should be conveyed reliably to Receiver 1–the “stronger” receiver. Given the message rate we characterize the achievable distortions region. Specifically, there is an ${\sf SNR}$ -threshold below which Dirty Paper coding of the digital information against a linear combination of the source components is optimal. The threshold is a function of the digital information rate, the source correlation and the distortion at the “stronger” receiver. Torsional oscillations greatly affect performance and. determine the bandwidth (BW) and damping of speed loops. Backlash due to gear reducers can also contribute to the triggering of oscillations, especially when the drive runs at very low load torque. This paper presents a detailed evaluation of these effects in typical electromechanical drive trains applied to paper machine sections. The cases evaluated consider torsional oscillations in two-mass and three-mass systems, and the effect of shaft diameter and length on the resonant frequencies of three typical paper machine sections. Time-domain response plots are evaluated to show the effect of speed response overshoot, reducer backlash, and step or ramp speed commands. Based on these results, mechanical design guidelines are given for the most significant drive train components in order to minimize torsional oscillations of the speed-controlled drive system. This work presents a literature review of papers spanning from 2010 to 2021, and which study digital marketing strategies driven by wellbeing in virtual communities. Results indicate a growing research interest after the pandemic regarding both positive and negative wellbeing dimensions, especially as drivers for digital segmentation, targeting and positioning strategies. Moreover, results highlight the remarkable increase of papers focusing on the tourism industry, game related strategies, and marketing analytics as relevant tools that support digital communication and influence strategies towards virtual communities. A growing number of online journals and academic platforms are adopting light peer review or 'publish then filter' models of scholarly communication. These approaches have the advantage of enabling instant exchanges of knowledge between academics and are part of a wider search for alternatives to traditional peer review and certification processes in scholarly publishing. However, establishing credibility and identifying the correct balance between communication and scholarly rigour remains an important challenge for digital communication platforms targeting academic communities. This paper looks at a highly influential, government-backed, open publishing platform in China: Science Paper Online, which is using transparent post-publication peer-review processes to encourage innovation and address systemic problems in China's traditional academic publishing system. There can be little doubt that the Chinese academic publishing landscape differs in important ways from counterparts in the United States and Western Europe. However, this article suggests that developments in China also provide important lessons about the potential of digital technology and government policy to facilitate a large-scale shift towards more open and networked models of scholarly communication. In this correspondence, we compare the achievable throughput for the optimal strategy of dirty paper coding (DPC) to that achieved with suboptimal and lower complexity linear precoding techniques (zero-forcing and block diagonalization). Both strategies utilize all available spatial dimensions and therefore have the same multiplexing gain, but an absolute difference in terms of throughput does exist. The sum rate difference between the two strategies is analytically computed at asymptotically high SNR. Furthermore, the difference is not affected by asymmetric channel behavior when each user has a different average SNR. Weighted sum rate maximization is also considered. In the process, it is shown that allocating user powers in direct proportion to user weights asymptotically maximizes weighted sum rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A microstrip line on very thin membrane substrate (0.05 mm) is slot-coupled through a thick air substrate (12.7 mm) to excite an L-band radiating patch element. A breadboard unit achieved a relatively wide bandwidth of 100 MHz (8%). Very narrow coupling slot is used with aspect ratio of 160 (conventional slot aspect ratio is between 10 to 30). This new feed design makes the thin-membrane or inflatable array antenna technology more practical. It reduces the number of thin-membrane layers required for a dual-pol wide-band inflatable array from three layers in a previous design to two layers. In addition, this technology allows the thin-membrane array antenna elements to be readily integrated with thin-membrane-mounted transmit/receive (T/R) modules. Calculation shows that, without the patch, the micros trip line and slot combination can also radiate as a paper-thin (0.05 mm) radiator at the L-band frequencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article reviews the development of digital twin and summarizes the evolution of the concept of digital twin. The key words and abstracts of 1187 relevant papers in recent 5 years are quantitatively analyzed, and 13 key nodes are obtained. Then it analyzes the content of 9 systematic review articles and summarizes 15 core contents. Then select 115 application examples from the articles. Through the above three steps, nine descriptive general characteristics of digital twin system are summarized: Entity object; Virtual object; Twinning degree; Communication; Data; Functionality; Human-computer interaction; systematicness; and Cost control. This paper will explain these features in detail and summarize the application examples of classifying each feature. The concept of a person-based number is attractive due to several pressing demands in implementation of current wireless communication systems. Some of these are: sudden proliferation in number of area codes; the need for freedom from number changes due to changes in service provider, location, or area code; and demand for improved and integrated communication service for users. Some important factors that determine the efficiency of a mobility management scheme include fewer number of times that locations need to be updated, reduced amount of overhead data that represents mobility related information, and efficient storage mechanisms that allow for fast storage and retrieval of this information. In this paper, we shall outline a mobility management scheme that provides a globally unique personal number and offers important benefits in regard to the issues cited above. For an efficient implementation of such a scheme however, an investigation of its performance is required in order to estimate signaling traffic and signaling delays. This paper will focus on some recent studies conducted on an analysis of this scheme by using query and update operations as the metrics for determining average call delay and control data storage and transmission requirements. A comparative analysis is also performed with equivalent cases of query and update in the IS-41 system. The paper argues for the renewed relevance of time geography in tourism in light of the use of mobile technologies and ubiquitous connectivity. The paper proposes the concept of phygitality to understand how digital technologies are used in physical space, and how the interaction between the physical and the digital reconfigures tourists' projects, paths, bundles, and constraints. The theoretical contribution builds on fifteen semi-structured interviews. The analysis shows that capability, coupling, and authority constraints are altered and mediated by digital devices. In the phygital time-space, tourists orient themselves in physical spaces, influenced by digital information; they create phygital paths and move between stations that result from the overlaying of digital information onto the physical space. Tourists' goal-oriented mobility results in phygital projects, where logics of efficiency and optimization reduce the liminality of the tourist experience.
