Information about several papers discussed at a session on currents from Chicago, Illinois and the impact of U.S. sociology around the world, that were given before the American Sociological Association, are presented. The papers presented ventures into the history of sociology and emphasizes its effort as a discipline to confront the realities of war and peace, poverty and wealth, nationalism and imperialism, dominance and subornation and to define the role of sociology and sociologists in the face of these realities.

Facets of human behavior deserve the serious consideration of man more than the re-evaluation of our moral codes and the development of a sound, functional, ethical orientation regarding sex. Because human beings have sex impulses, society has found it necessary to order and regulate sex activities and relations, and therefore every cultural group has established some set of rules and patterns to which its members were expected to conform. Some of the traditional attitudes and beliefs about sex have focused upon the negative view that sex was unclean--something to be denied and rejected. The church and state took upon themselves the responsibility of establishing regulations and attempted to enforce adherence to these regulations in order to preserve the values of the society or group. The double standard in premarital sexual intercourse has been increasingly questioned and criticized in modern United States. There are those who believe in and observe a single standard of chastity, and an apparently increasing number who are accepting premarital coitus for both male and female.

The author gives opinion on research on the academic performance of the U.S. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and the Presidential White Papers presented at the NCAA Convention held in 2009. He says among the topics of the papers were sports sponsorships and championships. He adds that the Division III Presidents Council has considered three subjects as the highest priority, one of which was a paper on presidential leadership. He notes that the division is comprised of diverse institutions.

Central Michigan University has hosted 11 Off-Campus Library Services Conferences since 1982. This paper studies the proceedings of the 11 conferences to identify patterns of research. The authors were interested in determining how the field of distance learning library services has changed over that 22 year period as evidenced by the topics presented and the types of papers included in the proceedings. The authors analyzed the contributed papers and assigned those papers to specific subject tracks. The authors also considered the sources used by the presenters in order to identify works that may be considered seminal in this field. Distance learning librarianship is a field that has grown and matured, but there has been little research to date into the core literature of the field. Simple Summary: In this position paper, we aim to summarize state-of-the-art treatments for patients with leiomyosarcomas in order to identify knowledge gaps and current unmet needs, thereby guiding the community to design innovative clinical trials and basic research and close these research gaps. This white paper arose from a leiomyosarcoma research meeting in October 2020 hosted by the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation (NLMSF) and Sarcoma Patients EuroNet (SPAEN). As leiomyosarcoma patients are challenged by the development of metastatic disease, effective systemic therapies are the cornerstone of outcome. However, the overall activity of the currently available conventional systemic treatments and the prognosis of patients with advanced or metastatic disease are still poor, making the treatment of this patient group challenging. Therefore, in a joint effort together with patient networks and organizations, namely Sarcoma Patients EuroNet (SPAEN), the international network of sarcoma patients organizations, and the National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation (NLMSF) in the United States, we aim to summarize state-of-the-art treatments for leiomyosarcoma patients in order to identify knowledge gaps and current unmet needs, thereby guiding the community to design innovative clinical trials and basic research and close these research gaps. This article presents information on the research papers to be presented at the "22nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Psychophysiological Research" to be held at the Sheraton-Ritz Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from October 21 to October 24, 1982. Ninety-six experts in the fields of elder abuse and aging in New York State met in Albany, NY on May 10-12, 2004 to "Target Elder Abuse" and to create a New York State Action Agenda to combat elder abuse. Lifespan of Greater Rochester convened and sponsored the Summit, modeled after the 2001 National Summit in Washington. This and the next two issues of LegisIative Studies Quarterly will publish a group of articles based on papers presented at the 1988 G. E. Hendricks Symposium on the United States Senate. Held on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in October 1988, this symposium brought together leading students of the U.S. Congress. Their articles fall into three large categories, and these categories will be used to divide the articles among the three issues (see Appendix). Following this introduction, three historically oriented articles will appear in this issue. The August issue d l contain five articles on the organization and operation of the Senate, and the November issue will present six articles relating to Senate elections. Collectively, these articles constitute an impressive portrait of current research on the Senate. Why is it important to obtain such a portrait? Of what value was our symposium and the papers it produced? What did we hope to accomplish, and did we do it? The article reports that a World Health Organization (WHO) group comprised of influenza (flu) scientists, public health officials, and journal editors from 11 countries have recommended the full publication of research that details a highly pathogenic bird flu virus rendered capable of being transmitted easily among mammals. According to the author, the group's recommendation ignores advice from the U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity regarding the release of key details only to individuals who have a need to know. Topics include an overview of research by two separate teams of scientists who genetically manipulated the H5N1 bird flu virus, making it easily transmissible to mammals through the air, and the WHO group's influence on the publication of the research papers.

The Editors of the Journal "Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory" invited Professor Gary L. Holstrum and Professor Theodore J. Mock to submit this synopsis of the University of Southern California Audit Judgment Symposium in the belief that many audit researchers and professionals who were not able to attend the conference would benefit from the report. A significant area of audit judgment is the evaluation of audit evidence. This synopsis of audit judgment and evidence evaluation research is based upon papers and presentations made at the 1985. The evaluation of audit evidence may be based on one of several models of inference. Audit evidence could be evaluated according to a Bayesian inference model, a non-Bayesian statistical model, a hierarchical or cascaded inference model, a causal reasoning model, or some other form of inference model. Strengths and weaknesses of various inference models were discussed at the Symposium. The Symposium began with presentations of some current behavioral science research on inference models that are expected to be relevant to audit evidence evaluation.

This symposium features three papers that investigate various aspects of government spending. The papers also share common ground in the considerable attention paid by each to international issues. Beyond that, the papers are quite different. They vary considerably in the mix of theory and empirical evidence as well as in the specific aspects of government spending that are investigated. The paper by Darrel Cohen utilizes techniques from the spectral analysis of time series to characterize seasonal, cyclical, and long-run properties of various measures of U.S. government spending; in addition, spectral techniques are combined with an intertemporal optimizing model of a representative consumer to shed light on the issues of the degree of direct substitution between government and private consumption spending in each of twelve major economies. The paper by Louise Sheiner uses cross-country data to address the question of whether conventional projections of a country's future health care expenditures are based on a faulty assumption that relative health spending by age remains constant. This paper is quite topical given impending demographic changes and related projected impacts on government outlays on health and retirement programs in many countries. The paper by Michele Cavallo develops a theoretical model and utilizes a calibration exercise to examine the effects on the current account balance of changes to different types of government spending, in particular expenditures on goods and expenditures on hours worked.
