In this study, it was aimed to examine the science preservice teachers' conceptual structures about the metabolic events taking place and the forms of energy in a cell. In the study, the descriptive model was used. In the study carried out during the spring semester of the 2017-2018 academic year participated a total of 123 third and fourth year preservice teachers studying at Science Education Division of the Education Faculty of Uludag University. The preservice teachers were asked to write down the metabolic events taking place and the forms of energy in the cell. The documents belonging to the preservice teachers composed the qualitative data of the study. In the data analysis process, since 13 of the preservice teachers did not write any answers, the documents belonging to 110 preservice teachers were taken into evaluation. As a result of the analysis of the documents, a total of 306 answers were obtained, 186 of them were related to the metabolic events and 120 of them were related to the forms of energy. In the data analysis, the content analysis method was used. The data sets belonging to the frequencies and the percentages of the metabolic events and forms of energy specified by the preservice teachers were transformed into tables and graphs. According to the results, a great majority of the preservice teachers' conceptual structures related to the metabolic events were limited to respiration and photosynthesis and those which were related to the energy forms were limited to ATP, light and heat. Epilobium and Chamaenerion included 165 and 8 species over the world, respectively. The members of the genera are distributed particularly in moist habitats from subpolar to tropical regions. This paper aims to provide improvements in the phylogeny of the genera Epilobium and Chamaenerion using Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) of nuclear DNA and matK gene sequence data evaluation with maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference criterations. A total of 188 individual accessions belonging to 28 taxa were newly generated and 110 sequences imported from GenBank (NCBI) were analysed. The nrDNA and plastid DNA gene trees supported to treat Epilobium and Chamaenerion as separate genera in two well-supported clades. The matK analyses revealed a better resolution than nrDNA ITS within the Chamaenerion clade and supported the inclusion of C. angustifolium in the sect. Chamaenerion. However, most of the examined species mostly fell into the polytomy in both trees excluding E. roseum subsp. consimile which should be considered a distinct species in the Epilobium contrary to morphological treatment in many national flora books. Both phylogenetic trees also support distinguishing E. prionophyllum from E. anatolicum previously treated as a subspecies of E. anatolicum. In conclusion, these preliminary phylogenetic analyses have contributed significantly to the determination of the limits of members belonging to Epilobium and Chamaenerion distributed in Türkiye. The 10th in the checklist series, this "Check-list of additional taxa to the supplement flora of Turkey", contains 225 taxa from 193 manuscripts published between January 2019 and December 2021. These taxa are not found in any of the other 11 volumes of 'Flora of Turkey' nor in the nine previously published check-lists. This paper presents a list of some medicinal plants distributed in the East Anatolia region. The list was prepared during an ethnobotanical survey of the region from 1995 to 2002. East Anatolia has a rich flora due to its variable climate and its many ecological zones. This diversity in flora provides a rich source of medicinal plants that has been long utilized by Anatolian cultures; and hence, accounts for the remarkable accumulation of medicinal folk knowledge for the region. This paper provides information about 71 useful plants grown in the region, 20 of which are reported for the first time. This paper describes a floristic study of Bozburun Mountain and its environs. The study was conducted between 1998 and 2002, during which time 2419 vascular plant samples were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the total flora was determined to consist of 645 taxa belonging to 341 genera and 86 families. The endemism rate of the 645 taxa was 16.1% (n = 104 taxa). The phytogeographical spectrum of the species was as follows: Mediterranean 207 (32.1%), Irano-Turanian 51 (7.9%) and Euro-Siberian elements 33 (5.1%). Of the species we sampled, 311 (48.2%) were widespread and the phytogeographical regions of 10 (1.5%) were unknown. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes a floristic study on Kirmir valley, between Güdül and Yesilöz district, in Ankara province. The study was carried out during 2000-2003 and 1040 vascular plant specimens were collected. Four hundred and forty-eight wild taxa belonging to 266 genera and 74 families were determined. Furthermore, as for cultivated plants, 45 taxa were determined. The total number of wild and cultivated plant species is 493. Thirty-two of the wild taxa are endemic to Turkey and the rate of endemism is 7.1%. The 3 largest families are Asteraceae (43 taxa), Brassicaceae (40 taxa), and Fabaceae (37 taxa). The largest 3 genera are Alyssum L. with 10 taxa, Veronica L. with 7 taxa and Salvia L., Astragalus L. and Vicia L. with 6 taxa. The phytogeographical distribution of the wild species is as follows: Irano-Turanian elements 73 (16.3%), Mediterranean elements 46 (10.3%) and Euro-Siberian elements 43 (9.6%). Forty-seven species are new records for the A4 square. Similarities between the taxa and ratio of phytogeographical elements of Kirmir valley and those of 10 other studies performed near our study area were compared using clustering analysis. This paper describes a floristic study of Kizilda&gcaron; (Isparta/Turkey) and its environs. The study was carried out during 19931996 and 1515 vascular plant samples were collected. After the identification of the specimens, the total flora has been determined as 786 taxa belonging to 770 species, 371 genera and 84 families. The endemism rate of the area is 15.5% for the 122 taxa. The largest 3 families are Asteraceae (89 species), Fabaceae (65 species) and Poaceae (62 species). The largest genera are Ranunculus L. (13 species), Allium L. (13 species) and Veronica L. (12 species). The phytogeographical spectrum of the species is as follows: Irano-Turanian elements 143 (18.19%), Mediterranean elements 140 (17.81%) and Euro-Siberian elements 40 (5.08%). One hundred and seventy-three species are new records from B3 and C3 squares. This paper deals with a fioristic study of KaragOney Mountain (Kirlkkale/Turkey). The study was carried out during 19891991 and 2500 vascular plant samples were collected. Eight hundred and sixty-eight taxa of 378 genera have been identified. Fabaceae, Asteraceae and Poaceae are the largest families and Astragalus L., Silene L. and Salvia L. are the largest genera in the area. The endemism rate of the area is 13.1%. The classification of the taxa into three main chorological units shows that Irano-Turanian elements are predominant. Threatened categories were proposed for 109 taxa according to IUCN categories. Tripleurospermum rosellum is here reported as native to Bulgarian flora for the first time based on materials gathered in the East Rhodope Mts. The revision of herbarium materials revealed that the taxon has been collected from several different localities in the same region of the country over the past 80 years. A detailed presentation on its morphology, distribution and habitat characteristics in Bulgaria are presented. The Greek collections of Tripleurospermum oreades are to be referred to T. rosellum. Peatlands are one of the globally important ecosystems. Blanket bogs are a type of peatlands where water is generally supplied by meteorological events (rain, snow). We have been conducting the first detailed algal flora study of blanket bogs of Turkey and found new records of algae genera ever given for Turkey. Here, we report a total of four desmids genera identified as new records for freshwater algal flora of Turkey: Spirotaenia (Spirotaenia condensata, Spirotaenia erythrocephala), Mesotaenium (Mesotaenium macrococcum), Hyalotheca (Hyalotheca dissiliens), and Bambusina (Bambusina borreri). Opuntia macrorhiza (Cactaceae) was first found in Turkey in 2020 during floristic surveys in the Boyabat district of the Sinop province and in the Cide district of the Kastamonu province. We provide an identification key to distinguish it from Opuntia ficus-indica, a morphological description, as well as some basic information on invaded habitat and potential threats. In this study, the new record of the non-indigenous Rhodophyta Antithamnionella spirographidis (Schiffner) Wollaston (1968) has been reported from the Marmara Sea that the connection area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. The species, originally described from Trieste (Northern Adriatic Sea), is currently known throughout the Central and Western Mediterranean Sea. Abstract: Atriplex tatarica is a heterocarpic annual native to a wide area of Middle and western Central Asia, Asia Minor, North Africa, and Eastern Europe. It is an early successional species of disturbed habitats, in Central Europe mostly occupying road margins and waste places. Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) is not found in Turkey's natural flora; however, its cultivation has been increasing in recent years. The species is widely cultivated in many provinces of the Aegean and the Mediterranean regions. There has been no information regarding genetic characteristics and the intra-individual phylogeny of cultivated sage. The levels of genetic relatedness of 19 Salvia samples from Izmir were determined by molecular tools. The sequences from the internal transcriber spacer (ITS) region of 18S–28S nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) locus were amplified by PCR and sequenced. Approximately, a 710 bp single amplified product was obtained in all genotypes. Of the nineteen Salvia specimens, six were identified as Salvia x sylvestris L. and the remaining 13 specimens were S. officinalis. The sequences of both species shared no similar secondary structures. The ITS region of all specimens contains several indels and substitutions. In the phylogenetic dendrogram, three major clusters (I, II, and III) and two independent branches (IV and V) were observed. Ninety-seven percent of local Salvia specimens were clustered in two branches (I and II), indicating a high diversity of genetic relatedness. Caves are specific ecosystems with both biotic and abiotic characteristics. Turkey has approximately 20,000 caves, and the biology of most of them has yet to be studied. Kaklik Cave is sinkhole-shaped and its entrance is quite large. A mineral-rich spring forms travertine as it enters the cave giving it unique characteristics. The study aims to determine the algal flora of Kaklik Cave. A total of eighty-six taxa were identified. Among them, twenty-one taxa were recorded for the first time as freshwater algal flora of Turkey. We utilize a dataset generated by 17 months of fieldwork, including tree health surveys and ethnobotanical questionnaires, to explore a participant-generated hypothesis that coppiced-tree honey collection is eclipsing nut collection as a strategy for the maintenance of chestnut landscapes in the face of increasingly severe pest and disease pressure. We explore this local hypothesis through quantitative analysis of a combined geographic, physiological, and ethnobotanical dataset. We verify participants' hypothesis and forecast relative success for their projected silvicultural strategy based on outcomes from other contexts. Our findings contribute to emerging consensus in mobility ethnobotany and core flora studies that the increase in importance of plant medicinal value occurs under conditions of rapid change and that valued species enjoy heightened ecological protection in new environments. Further, we highlight the importance of "thinking with" the tension of indigeneity and adaptations required to survive extreme and ubiquitous environmental change, including migration and ecological alteration. Crocus adamioides Kernd. et Pasche, as it is currently known, was originally treated as C. biflorus Mill. subsp. adamii B. Mathew in the flora of Bulgaria by Mathew (1982) and verified by Rukšāns (2017). The taxon was afterwards described as a separate species (Kerndorff et al. 2012), the holotype being collected in Kırklareli Province, European Turkey. The species was for the first time mapped in two floristic regions of Bulgaria. The diagnostic characters based on the general morphology and leaf anatomy were defined from the natural populations of the species and compared to the type specimen and relevant data from the literature. The phylogenetic position of the species was clarified by sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS: ITS1 + 5.SsrDNA + ITS2) and comparison of the obtained sequence with those annotated in NCBI. A phylogenetic tree was built using Bayesian phylogeny. Results have shown the highest degree of phylogenetic similarity with C. adamioides from Turkey. The closest relative C. ranjeloviciorum Kernd., Pasche, Harpke et Raca remains in the proximity. Our morphological, anatomical and molecular analyses have revealed that the Bulgarian population shows a peculiar combination of characters specific to C. adamioides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, one of the Turkey's Wetlands of International Importance Grounds, declared as Wildlife Protection Area and Grade 1 Natural Protected Area called Acar Longoz (Sakarya) and its surroundings’ floristic features were studied. The study area is on the A3 square according to Davis's Grid Frame System. As a result of the studies carried out in the Acarlar floodplain, there were 360 genera, 654 species and subspecies taxa belonging to 97 families. Of the taxa identified in the area, 8 belong to Pteridophyta, 646 to Spermatophyta, 5 of which belong to Gymnospermae and 641 to Angiospermae subdivision. The endemism rate of the area was determined to be 2,137 % with 14 taxa. The number of taxa belonging to the European-Siberian phytogeographical region is in the first place with 21.47%. In this study, the synopsis of the taxa of the genus Trigonella in Turkey is presented. It is represented with 34 taxa in Turkey. The name of Trigonella coelesyriaca was misspelled to Flora of Turkey and the correct name of this species, Trigonella caelesyriaca, was given in this study. The endemic Trigonella raphanina has been reduced to synonym of T. cassia and T. balansae is reduced to synonym of T. corniculata. In addition, T. spruneriana var. sibthorpii is reevaluated as a distinct species. Lectotypification was designated for T. capitata, T. spruneriana and T. velutina. Neotypification was decided for T. cylindracea and T. cretica species. Trigonella taxa used to be represented by 52 taxa in the Flora of Turkey. However, they have later been evaluated by different studies under 32 species (34 taxa) in Turkey. Blindiadelphus campylopodus, Sphagnum quinquefarium, Gymnomitrion obtusum and Anastrophyllum minutum are reported as new for Turkey and Southwest Asia, following a recent bryological excursion to the Sis Mountain of Turkey. Also, genera Blindiadelphus and Anastrophyllum are given as new record for bryophyte flora of Turkey. As a result of the examination of the bryophyte samples collected from the Şalpazarı and Tonya districts (Trabzon ) in Turkey, a total of 195 bryophyte taxa belonging to 105 genera (22 liverworts and 83 mosses) were identified from 16 localities. Aims: With its diverse vascular flora Turkey is well-known as a bridge between the Mediterranean basin, the Caucasus, and the Irano-Turanian region. Orchids are an important component of this diversity with 191 taxa, of which 39 taxa are Turkish endemics. This study aims to group the country's orchid taxa into different phytogeographical regions, natural vegetation types, and altitudinal zones. Study area: Turkey. Methods: Field surveys were carried out from 1988 to 2017. The sampling areas were selected with good prior knowledge of orchid-containing terrains and habitats. Distribution data were revised and presented in a 10 km UTM grid. Geospatial data were classified and processed by ArcGIS software. Results: The Mediterranean region (70 taxa, 17 endemics) is the richest for orchid taxa distributed in only one phytogeographical region, followed by the Euro-Siberian (13 taxa, 2 endemics) and the Irano-Turanian (7 taxa, all endemics) regions. Species richness per habitat varied from Mediterranean landscapes of "natural Pinus brutia forests" (105 taxa, 12 endemics), followed by landscapes with "Quercus frainetto forest" (59 taxa, 3 endemics), "Oak-hornbeam forest" (55 taxa, 3 endemics), "Beech-spruce forest" (38 taxa, 1 endemic), "Quercus brantii forest steppe (arid)" (38 taxa, 5 endemics) to "Subalpine Juniper forest steppe" (34 taxa, 7 endemics). Orchids were found mainly at elevations of 0 to 500 m (138 taxa) and 501 to 1,000 m (123 taxa). At elevations over 1,000 m, the number of orchid taxa decreases, but 21 taxa were found at over 2,000 m. Some orchid taxa were found to be restricted to a particular altitudinal zone and phytogeographical region. Conclusion: This study provides a general framework for relevant orchid conservation efforts in Turkey. Key habitats from different phytogeographical regions and altitudinal zones should be prioritised. For such areas, a multi-layered conservation planning approach from country to habitat level across Turkey needs to be developed. In this study, a report on the genus Matricaria in Turkey is provided based on floristic studies. Previously recorded taxa are compared with new ones from our collections. Four taxa of Matricaria in Turkish flora are recognized: M. aurea, M. chamomilla var. chamomilla, M. chamomilla var. recutita and M. matricarioides. On the other hand, M. chamomilla var. coronata is an erroneous record for the flora of Turkey. Diagnostic morphological characters together with data on phenology, habitat and distribution as well as dichotomous keys for Matricaria taxa are presented. Composition of the water-distilled oil of Phlomis nissolii L., endemic in Turkey, was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Eighteen compounds were identified representing 92.6% of the total oil. Fossil cycadalean leaves recorded from the Miocene plant assemblage of Soma, western Turkey, are described and assigned to an extinct genus and species, Pseudodioon akyoli. Leaf macromorphology suggests affinity with members of the Zamiaceae (subfam. Encephalartoideae), particularly with modern Dioon. Micromorphological features on the other hand indicate affinity with modern Cycas (Cycadaceae). Ordinary cells on the adaxial epidermis are isodiametric and are not differentiated into thick- and thin-walled cells. This is similar to Encephalartoideae-like fossils reported from the Cenozoic of the Northern Hemisphere, and even from the Mesozoic. Shared macromorphological traits of P. akyoli and other coeval Encephalartoideae-like fossil cycadalean leaves from Europe suggest that an extinct group of cycads inhabited southern Europe from the western part of Turkey, through Greece and France to Switzerland in the north during the Oligo-Miocene. In this study, pollen grains in the atmosphere of Bilecik were studied for a continuous period of 2 years (2005 and 2006) by using Durham sampler. During this period, pollen grains belonging to 46 taxa were recorded, 26 of which belonged to arboreal plants and 20 to non-arboreal. Of total 14,269 pollen grains determined in Bilecik atmosphere, 6,675 were recorded in 2005 and 7,594 were in 2006. From these, 75.74% were arboreal, 21.80% were non-arboreal and 2.47% unidentifiable. Pinus sp., Poaceae, Cupressaceae, Platanus sp., Quercus sp., Salix sp., Ailanthus sp., Fagus sp., Urticaceae, Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae were the main pollen producers in the atmosphere of Bilecik, respectively. Pollen concentrations reached their highest levels in May. Atmospheric pollen concentrations in February, March, September, October and November were less than those in other months. Twenty-two chromosome counts are reported in 16 species, four subspecies and two varieties of the genus Centaurea. These are mostly Turkish local endemics of section Cheirolepis, a complicated group from the Eastern clade of the Jacea group. Twenty-one reports are new. An HPLC-ESI/MS method that enables fast detection and identification of iridoid glycosides is described. Eleven iridoid glycosides known to occur in the genus Lamium-lamalbide, sesamoside, 6-β-OH ipolamiide, shanzhiside methyl ester, dehydropenstemoside, barlerin (= 8-O-acetylshanzhiside methyl ester), 6-O-syringyl-8-O-acetylshanzhiside methyl ester, lamerioside, lamiide, eriobioside, and ipolamiide, were identified by means of their retention time and ESI/MS data. This method was successfully applied to the identification of the iridoid composition of the n-butanol extracts of Lamium eriocephalum Bentham subsp. eriocephalum, L. garganicum L. subsp. pulchrum R. Mill, L. garganicum L. subsp. laevigatum Arcangeli, and L. purpureum L. var. purpureum from the Turkish flora. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
