Dinko Kovačić is a prominent Croatian architect and university professor. His design approach is characterised by exceptional empathy that results in architectural works of intense connection with the environment as well as with that of their future users. Although many of Kovačić's works have been published in the daily press and professional publications, the complete oeuvre of this architect has so far not been the subject of scientific research. The aim of this scientific work is to look at his specific design approach based on the analysis of representative examples. Research methods in this paper include the analysis of primary and secondary sources and on-site observation. The article gives a systematic presentation of Dinko Kovačić's work as related to his specific approach, which integrates the modernism of the second half of the 20th century and the Mediterranean tradition. This paper deals with the architecture of Bartol Felbinger in the context of the relevant and positively evaluated conceptual levels of design. The architect's work is thus perceived in the context of building up the City of Zagreb and the initiation of Croatian Modern architecture. Furthermore, the paper looks into Classicism and Biedermeir inherently linked with Felbinger's work. They are viewed here in the context of the architectural culture of continental Croatia. This paper presents new facts, hitherto unpublished in Croatia, concerning the life and work of Selman Selmanagić, the well-known Berlin architect, designer and professor. The life of this successful Bosniak was saturated with influences from the various cultures and communities in which he lived, studied and worked. He was born in Srebrenica, and went to school in Sarajevo, Ljubljana and Dessau. He spent the majority of his working life in Berlin where, among other activities, he led the Department of Architecture at the Kunsthochschule for twenty years. The article focuses on his life, the development of his rich career and all of his most important achievements. It is of particular interest that he actively took part as a main consultant in the renovation project of the Bauhaus building in Dessau in 1975. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article is the first in a series of papers envisaged to systematically present the oeuvre of architect Alfred Albini, which is not quantitatively significant since it includes about fifty works, fifteen of which have been realized. However, with their quality, nine of his buildings stand out in the history of Croatian modern architecture, most of them counting as architectural classics. Chronologically approached and morphologically analyzed these works can loosely be grouped into two main sections: early works (1927-35) and mature works (1935-64). The number and quality of industrial architectural designs and accomplishments by architect Lavoslav Horvat have been unprecedented in Croatian architectural history. Their analysis and assessment thus contribute to the valuation of Croatian post-war architectural theory and practice. The Duro Dakovic factory of wagons, machines and bridges in Slavonski Brod, Dalmatinka factory of yarn and thread in Sinj and the TEZ light bulb factory in Zagreb are Horvat's three most significant works discussed in this paper. Although characteristic for his entire oeuvre, Boris Krstulović's design method is analyzed in this paper in relation to the 1960 residential building on Petretić Square in Zagreb. Placed within Croatian and international architectural trends the building reveals features of the Zagreb school of architecture. This paper presents a selection of 40 categorized and analyzed projects and realizations between 1923-1941 designed by the architect Vladimir Sterk in the Zagreb area. The analysis shows clarity in plan composition, skillful application of various structural systems and permanent changes in the design including the insertion of classical elements into a clean facade surface and the interruption of a cubic body with classical forms. The article discusses elements of expressionism in interwar Croatian architecture. The architecture of Zagreb, Croatia is described, the influence of modernism on the adoption of expressionist architecture in Croatia is examined, and information is offered on the education and career of Croatian architect Drago Ibler.
