This paper presents the zonal geochemistry and elasticity characteristics of gallium- and lithium-rich No. 6 coalbed in the Haerwusu mine and discusses interpretation methodologies of coal-hosted gallium and lithium resources using lab-measured samples and field-measured wireline logs. The results demonstrate that both coal-composition-based and elastic-parameter-based classifications yield similar results, categorizing the coalbed into subzones related to coal quality. Material compositions, elastic properties, critical metals, and host minerals exhibit zonal distribution characteristics within the ultrathick No. 6 coalbed. Three-class classifications significantly enhance correlations among host minerals, elastic parameters, and critical metals, albeit with differing trends among classes. In classes II and III (ultralow- and low-ash-yield coals), boehmite and kaolinite primarily host gallium and lithium, respectively. In class I (medium-ash-yield coal), gallium is associated with kaolinite, while lithium lacks specific mineral associations. Constrained by wireline logs, a rock physics modeling strategy is proposed to link mesoscale coal compositions to macroscale elastic responses. Moreover, explicit correlations between host minerals and critical metals are established, connecting macroscale elastic responses to microscale gallium and lithium enrichments and exploring interpretation methods of coal-hosted critical metals. Preferred lithium interpretation methods include compositional ternary plots and elastic parameter cross plots, while preferred gallium interpretation methods involve boehmite-gallium and elastic parameter-gallium fitting. Two sediment cores from the Changjiang (Yangtze) River estuary and its adjacent East China Sea were collected and studied for eutrophication history using paleoecological records of environmental changes over the last century. A multiproxy approach by using biological and geochemical analyses revealed changes in diatom assemblages, total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN) and biogenic silica (BSi) and give an indication of nutrient in status and trends in Changjiang River estuary and its adjacent East China Sea. The diatom assemblages in the two cores generally increased gradually from the 1970s, and accelerated from the 1990s until now, reflecting the increased eutrophication and causing large algae blooms/red tides. The TOC, TN and BSi showing the similar trends, supported the interpretation of the eutrophication process indicated by diatom analyses. The two cores were located in different sea areas of the East China Sea, and we discuss their relative changes based on their environment characteristics. We also discuss the potential effect of anthropogenic influences and ongoing projects on eutrophication in the Changjiang River and its adjacent East China Sea. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Accurately determining the timing and mechanism of metallogenesis of ore deposits is essential for developing a robust genetic model for their exploration. In this paper, we analyze the formation conditions of cassiterite in five major deposits of southern Hunan Province, one of the most important tungsten-tin (W-Sn) provinces in South China, using a combination of cathodoluminescence imaging, in situ U-Pb geochronology, and trace-element concentration data. In situ cassiterite U-Pb geochronology constrains the main period of Sn mineralization to between 155.4 and 142.0 Ma, demonstrating a temporal and genetic relationship to silicic intrusive magmatism in the same area. Three stages of magmatic activity and metallogenic evolution are recognized: (1) Early Paleozoic and Triassic: the initial enrichment stage of tungsten and tin; (2) Jurassic: the metasomatic mineralization stage; and (3) Cretaceous: the magmatic-hydrothermal superposition stage. The cassiterite in these deposits takes four forms, i.e., quartz vein-type, greisen-skarn-type, greisen-type, and granite-type, representing a progression characterized by the increasing content and decreasing range of variation of high field strength elements (HFSEs), and reflecting a general increase in the degree of evolution of the associated granites. Rare earth element (REE) concentrations suggest that precipitation of cassiterite was insensitive to the redox state of the fluid and that precipitation of cassiterite in the southern Hunan Sn deposits did not require a high-fO2 environment. Guizhou Province of China is rich in shale gas resources. In recent years, important progress has been made in the exploration and development of shale gas in the Upper Ordovician Wufeng Formation-Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in Zheng'an block in northern Guizhou, adjacent to Sichuan Basin. Due to the complex geological conditions and fragile ecological environment in the shale gas distribution area, serious environmental pollution risks may exist in shale gas exploitation. Therefore, this paper conducted element, hydrogen and oxygen isotope analyses for shale gas fracturing flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 in Zheng'an block. The results showed that the contents of K, Na, Ca, Mg and NH+ 4 in the flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 were very high, with an average of 118 mg/L, 7616 mg/L, 266 mg/L, 47 mg/L and 76 mg/L, respectively. The content of Na, Ca and Mg is similar to that of shale gas flowback/produced water in Weiyuan, but lower than that in Changning and Fuling. NH+ 4 content was similar to that in Changning, but much higher than that in Weiyuan. The average Cl content was 11605 mg/L, which was similar to that in Weiyuan, but lower than that in Changning and Fuling. The average Br content is 48 mg/L, slightly lower than that of Weiyuan, and about half of that of Changning and Fuling. Correspondingly, the Br/Cl value of Well AY7-4 is the lowest, reflecting its relatively low Br content. The average content of Li, B and Sr is 17 mg/L, 10 mg/L and 45 mg/L, respectively, which is similar to that of the Weiyuan, Changning and Fuling shale gas fields. The distribution model of Li and Sr is similar to that of Cl, Br and Na, but the B content and B/Cl value of Well AY7-4 are the lowest. The linear relationship between Br and Cl contents and between dD and d18O of flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4, freshwater used for hydraulic fracturing and hydraulic fracturing injected fluid indicates that flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 is mainly the mixed product between low salinity injected fracturing fluid and high salinity brine retained in shale formation. The hydrogen and oxygen isotopic compositions gradually become heavier over time, indicating that the proportion of high salt end formation brine in flowback/produced water is increasing. The contents of Cl, Br, Na and NH+ 4 in the flowback/produced water of Well AY7-4 are far higher than the allowable discharge value, which is a potential environmental pollution risk and cannot be discharged directly. Metal migration and precipitation in hydrothermal fluids are important topics in economic geology. The Hongling polymetallic deposit comprises one of the most important parts of the Huanggangliang–Ganzhuermiao polymetallic metallogenic belt, which is in eastern Inner Mongolia. Except for lead–zinc skarn, minor cassiterite in the skarn and disseminated W–Sn mineralization in granitic rocks have also been found. The dominant Sn–W mineralization is in the northern part of the deposit, occurring as disseminated wolframite and cassiterite in aplite hosted in Mesozoic granite porphyry. The aplite together with pegmatite K-feldspar–quartz comprises vein dikes hosted in the granite porphyry, providing evidence for the transition from melt to fluid. The veins, dikes, and Sn–W mineralization in the aplite provide an opportunity to investigate fluid exsolution and the mechanics of metal precipitation. Based on field observations, the micrographic and scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) results of the vein dikes, chronology, and the whole-rock geochemistry of the host rock, together with the fluid inclusion results, this paper discusses the characteristics of the causative magma, the mechanics of fluid exsolution and W–Sn precipitation. Our results show that the causative magma is of highly fractionated A-type granite affinity and has an intrusive age of late Mesozoic (133.3 ± 0.86 Ma). The magmatic evolution during shallow emplacement led to immiscibility between highly volatile, high-silica, and W- and Sn-enriched melts from the parent magma, followed by fluid exsolution from the water-rich melt. The alkaline-rich fluid exsolution led to a change in the redox state of the magma and the chilling of the melt. Fluid boiling occurred soon after the fluid exsolution and was accompanied by the degassing of CO2. The boiling and escape of CO2 from the fluid led to changes in fluid redox and W and Sn precipitation; thus, the W and Sn mineralization are mostly hosted in causative intrusions or peripheral wall rocks, which can be used as indicators for Sn–W exploration in the area. The Pingbei area is the main accumulation area of oil and gas in the Xihu Sag. The phase characteristics of oil and gas in this area are complex, and the understanding of their genesis is still unclear. In this paper, based upon discussions of crude oil and natural gas geochemical data, integrated with local geological features, we discuss the sources, migration, and phase state characteristics of oil and gas in the Pingbei area of the Xihu Sag. The study results show that the crude oil and natural gas in the Pingbei area are coal-derived and the oil and gas produced by the humic organic matter during the mature stage. The oil and gas source correlation showed that crude oil and natural gas have good affinity with the Eocene Pinghu Formation (PH) coal-bearing source rocks. Crude oil has the characteristics of near-source accumulation and short-distance migration while natural gas is supplied from a dual source: the coal-derived hydrocarbon rocks of PH in the deep part of the study area, supplemented by the coal-derived hydrocarbon rocks of PH on the bottom of the slope, and adjacent hydrocarbon-bearing sub sag. The distribution characteristics and geochemical migration indices of hydrocarbon show that the oil generated from the hydrocarbon source rocks of PH in the deep Pingbei area mainly migrates vertically along the fault connecting the reservoir and the source rocks to the trap, where it accumulates, while the natural gas exhibits deep and large faults that mainly migrate vertically, supplemented by its lateral migration along the composite transport system composed of faults and sandstone layers in the slope zone. The whole area presents the phase characteristics of "upper oil and lower gas, west oil and east gas". The mechanisms of produced-exhausted and geochromatographic effects (PGE), as well as evaporative fractionation (EF) and phase-controlled migration fractionation (PMF), result in the obvious discrepancy of hydrocarbon's properties on the vertical profiles. The Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) is the world's largest accretionary orogenic belt, and its formation is related to the closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean (PAO). However, the closure time and style of the PAO remain controversial. To address these issues, this paper presents zircon U-Pb dating, whole-rock geochemistry and zircon Lu-Hf isotope analyses of the volcanic rocks in the Faku-Kaiyuan area on the northern margin of the North China Craton. The results show that the Bachagou andesites formed in the Early Permian (287 ± 2 Ma), while the Chaijialing andesites and dacites formed in the Late Permian (253.3 ± 3.7 Ma) and Middle Triassic (244.3 ± 1.3 Ma), respectively. The Bachagou andesites and Chaijialing andesites are enriched in LILEs and LREEs and depleted in HFSEs and HREEs, indicating that they formed in the active continental margins. The Chaijialing dacites show similar geochemical signatures to adakite and formed in a syn-collisional setting. Geochemistry and isotopic analysis indicates that the Bachagou andesites were derived from a partial melting of the mantle wedge that was metasomatized by subduction fluids. The Chaijialing andesites were generated from a metasomatized mantle by slab-derived and sediment fluids. The Chaijialing dacites formed by a partial melting of thickened lower crust. Combined with previous research results, we can conclude that the Eastern PAO closed by a scissor-like movement from west to east during the Late Permian–Middle Triassic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dongcao muscovite granite, as the product of the second stage of the magmatic intrusion of the Ganfang composite pluton, is closely related to the mineralization of Li–Nb–Ta rare metals in the Yifeng area. This paper aims to discuss the diagenetic age, evolutionary process, and relationship with the rare metal mineralization of Dongcao muscovite granite by using petrographic, cassiterite U–Pb dating and geochemical analyses. Petrographic analysis shows that the lithology of the Dongcao muscovite granite is medium– to fine–grained muscovite monzogranite. The cassiterite U–Pb dating results show that the diagenetic age of the Dongcao muscovite granite is 139.7 ± 6.7 Ma, which is Early Cretaceous. The geochemical analysis indicates that the rock is characterized by high Si, abundant aluminum alkalis, low Ca and Fe, and low Mg, which indicates that this granite is a strongly peraluminous rock. Moreover, the Dongcao muscovite granite is enriched with Rb, U, Ta, Pb, P, and Hf and depleted of Ba, Sr, Ti, and rare earth elements (REEs), with a tetrad effect of REEs. Based on this analysis, the Dongcao muscovite granite is a highly differentiated granite that formed in the tectonic transition from continental collisional to post–collisional settings related to the subduction of the Paleo–Pacific plate. A high degree of crystallization differentiation occurred at the early stage of magmatic evolution, resulting in the initial enrichment of Li–Nb–Ta–Sn. The Ailaoshan orogenic belt is one of the most significant orogenic belts in the southeastern margin of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. The widely developed magmatic rocks in this belt preserve the multi-stage tectonic evolution records of the South China Plate. As an important response to the Rodinia breakup tectonic event, the study of Neoproterozoic magmatic rocks in the area is of great significance for reconstructing the Neoproterozoic tectonic process of the Ailaoshan orogenic belt and the tectonic evolution of the South China Plate. Petrology, geochemistry, zircon U-Pb, and Lu-Hf isotopes of the Daping pluton in the Ailaoshan orogenic belt are studied in this paper. The Daping pluton is mainly divided into gabbros and granites. Gabbros and granites belong to the sub-alkaline series, which are relatively enriched in large ion lithophilic elements and depleted in high-field strength elements. The ΣREE contents of the gabbro are low with enrichment in LREEs and depletion in HREEs, and the degree of differentiation of light and heavy rare earth is low, with positive δEu and weak negative δCe anomalies. The ΣREE contents of the granite are low with enrichment in LREEs and depletion in HREEs, and the degree of light and heavy rare earth differentiation is high, with medium–weak negative δEu and weak positive δCe anomalies, suggesting an A2-type granite with A1-A2 transition characteristics. The weighted average age of the gabbro is 816.1 ± 4.1 Ma (MSWD = 0.11), with zircon εHf(t) values of −7.5–5.5. The magma source is a mixture of an ancient crust source and a new mantle source; the weighted average age of the syenogranite is 783.7 ± 8.1 Ma (MSWD = 1.4), with zircon εHf(t) values of −4.3–0.4. The magma source is mainly ancient crustal material (Ailaoshan Group), mixed with a small amount of mantle-derived material; the weighted average age of the monzogranite is 754.8 ± 6.1 Ma (MSWD = 3.0), with positive zircon εHf(t) values of 1.65–10.36. The magma source is a mixture of a large number of mantle-derived materials and a small number of crust-derived materials (Ailaoshan Group). The Daping pluton was formed in the transitional tectonic environment from post-collision to intraplate continental margin rift, corresponding to the Rodinia breakup process in the western margin of the South China Plate. Reconstructing the tectonic architecture of the southern Altaids is of great importance to piece together the continental growth history of the Central Asian continent. In this paper, we address the subduction‐accretion process of the Paleo‐Tianshan Ocean, one branch of the South Tianshan Ocean, in the southern Altaids, through a detailed geological and geochemical investigation of the Wulanmoren Accretionary Complex (WAC). The WAC is composed of ophiolitic mélanges, ocean plate stratigraphy mélanges, and turbiditic coherent units. In this study, we present key geological, petrological, and geochemical evidence indicating back‐arc and ocean island affinity of the igneous rocks of the WAC. Zircon U‐Pb dates of these rocks ages range between 380.2 ± 1.3 and 302.0 ± 5.3 Ma. The sedimentary matrix units of the mélanges were deposited in the Early Devonian (∼405 Ma) to the Late Triassic (∼222 Ma), rather than Silurian strata as previously thought. However, the ages of some detrital zircons in the sedimentary matrix are Precambrian, pointing to a complex evolution involving multiple ocean island terrains and island arcs of different ages that accreted from the mid‐Paleozoic to the Early Mesozoic. Plain Language Summary: Well‐exposed rock outcrops of the Wulanmoren Accretionary Complex (WAC) offer an ideal opportunity to solve the enigma of the evolutionary history of the Paleo‐Tianshan Ocean (PTO) of Central Asia. We report field observations, geochemistry, and geochronology of the WAC in the southern Altaids, pointing to multiple tectonic settings of ages spanning from the Early Devonian (∼405 Ma) to the Late Triassic (∼222 Ma). These reconstructions suggest closure time of the PTO occurred post‐Triassic. Based on detrital zircons provenance analysis, we propose a multi‐island ocean model to explain the tectonic evolution of the PTO in the time period studied. The Carboniferous–Triassic period was an important stage of global sea–land transformation, with coal formation in the Carboniferous, biological extinction at the end of the Permian, and global drought in the Triassic. The MS-1 well in the Mosuowan High of the Junggar Basin is the deepest well drilled in Northwestern China. In this paper, we investigate the sedimentary environment and climate evolution of the Mosuowan area in the central Junggar Basin during the Late Carboniferous–Early Permian by the petrothermal, lipid biomarker, and isotopic composition of mud shale core samples, and explore the tectonic–climatic events and Central Asian orogenic belt evolution driving the sedimentary environment. The study shows that the organic matter from the Upper Carboniferous to the Lower Permian is at a mature stage, but biomarkers maintained the primary information although the organic matter was subjected to thermal evolution. In the late Carboniferous period (Tamugan Formation), the study area was a closed remnant sea with a relatively humid climate, triggering lush terrestrial vegetation and high organic carbon content in the sediments, which had the potential to evolve into natural gas. During the Xiazijie Formation of the Middle Permian, tectonic activity shifted to the subsidence period, and the salinity of the water decreased after a large input of fresh water. The lake basin area expanded, and the content of aquatic organisms continued to increase. As the Lower Permian stratigraphy is missing, this sea–land transition seems to jump. The low and upper Urho Formations of the Middle–Upper Permian are a deltaic foreland deposit, and geochemical indicators show an overall lake retreat process with a continuous increase in organic matter content of terrestrial origin. The lithologic assemblage of the Triassic Baikouquan Formation is braided river deltaic sedimentation with migration of deposition centers of the lake basin. In conclusion, the Late Carboniferous–Early Permian period was influenced by global changes, Paleo-Asian Ocean subduction, and continental splicing, which resulted in a continuous increase in terrestrial organic matter, water desalination, and oxidation-rich sediments in the Mosuowan region, but the P–T biological mass extinction event was not recorded. The tectonic evolution of the Qinling orogen is key to understanding the process of convergence between the North China Block (NCB) and the South China Block (SCB). The Wuguan Complex and Liuling Group, situated along the southern margin of the Shangnan–Danfeng suture zone (SDSZ) between the North Qinling Terrane (NQT) and the South Qinling Terrane (SQT), are important indicators of the late Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Qinling orogen. In this paper, the detrital zircon U–Pb geochronology and geochemical analysis of the Wuguan Complex and Liuling Group are carried out. Detrital zircons from two metasedimentary rock samples of the Liuling Group yield a major age peak at 460 Ma and two subordinate peaks at 804 Ma and 920 Ma, with a few older grains having formed between 1000–2549 Ma. One metasedimentary rock sample of the Wuguan Complex has a similar age spectrum as that of the Liuling Group, which shows the main age peak at 440 Ma and two subordinate peaks at 786 and 927 Ma, indicating all detrital zircon age results have the same source area. Geochemical analyses suggest that the sedimentary rocks of the Liuling Group and part of the Wuguan Complex were deposited in the tectonic setting of the continental island arc (CIA), while the geochemical characteristics of the other group of sedimentary rocks of the Wuguan Complex indicate the mixing of basic rock sources. The protolith of garnet amphibolite and hornblende schist, which were collected from the Wuguan Complex, were classified as andesite and basalt, with the nature of arc andesite and oceanic island basalt, respectively. In combination with regional data, we suggest that the Liuling Group and the Wuguan Complex were deposited in a fore-arc basin. Additionally, the Wuguan Complex was subsequently incorporated into the tectonic mélange by the northward subduction of the Paleo-Qinling Ocean. Zircons from the subduction-related metamorphic igneous rocks in the Wuguan Complex yielded a weighted mean age of 365 ± 19 Ma, indicating that the Paleo-Qinling Ocean between the SQT and NQT was still subducted at the end of Devonian. This paper presents new zircon U–Pb ages and Hf isotope data, and whole‐rock major and trace element geochemical data of Permian igneous rocks from the eastern Songnen Massif (SM) and the western Jiamusi Massif (JM), NE China, to constrain their tectonic evolution. Zircon U–Pb dating indicates that Permian magmatism within the eastern SM can be subdivided into two stages: early Permian (ca. 293 Ma) and middle to late Permian (272–257 Ma). The early Permian igneous rocks comprise a bimodal association of rhyolites, basaltic andesites, and gabbros. The middle to late Permian igneous rocks are dominated by gabbro–diorites, monzodiorites, quartz diorites, monzonites, quartz monzonites, granodiorites, monzogranites, syenogranites, and alkali feldspar granites, along with minor bodies of A‐type quartz trachytes. The Permian felsic magmas originated mainly from partial melting of a relatively juvenile lower crust, whereas the coeval mafic rocks were probably derived from partial melting of a relatively depleted lithospheric mantle that was modified by fossil subduction‐related fluids. The igneous rock associations and their geochemical features, together with data from coeval sedimentary and volcanosedimentary successions, indicate that Permian magmatism within the eastern Songnen and western Jiamusi massifs formed in an extensional environment, similar to a back‐arc setting, related to westward subduction of a Palaeo‐oceanic plate beneath the eastern margin of the Jiamusi Massif. The Zhashui-Shanyang ore cluster area is one of the most important gold polymetallic ones in northwestern China. The Qinglingou gold deposit is a newly discovered small-scale deposit in the Zhashui-Shanyang area. Gold mineralization closely related to acid intrusive rocks has been found for the first time in this area. In this paper, the geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and isotope signature of the granite porphyries in the deposit are studied. They are characterized by variable medium SiO2 (67.22–71.72 wt.%), high K2O + Na2O contents (6.54–10.34 wt.%), and variable Al2O3 (14.47–15.10 wt.%) values. The A/CNK ratios range from 0.90 to 1.23, and the A/NK ratios vary from 1.14 to 1.48. These rocks also contain biotite and amphiboles and are similar to peraluminous and high-K calc-alkaline I-type granites. The Qinglingou granite porphyries show relative enrichment of Rb, Th, and K, and depletion of Nb, Ta, P, Ti, and other high field strength elements. These porphyries are enriched in light rare earth elements relative to heavy rare earth elements with weak negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.63–0.89), which is interpreted to be the best age of crystallization of the Qinglingou porphyries. LA–ICPMS zircon U–Pb dating yields an age of 211 ± 1.2 Ma (n = 16, MSWD = 0.39). The close spatial relationship between the ore bodies and granite porphyry dikes indicates that this age may represent the metallogenic age in this area. The zircons have 176Hf/177Hf ratios ranging from 0.282625 to 0.282702, the εHf(t) values are near 0 and the two-stage zircon Hf model ages range from 1121 to 1296 Ma. These data indicate that the Qinglingou granite porphyries were derived from the interplay between mantle- and crustal-derived magmas. We therefore propose that there is potential gold in carbonate rocks at the periphery of porphyry-skarn copper-molybdenum deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Late Mesozoic granites are present throughout the Jiaodong Peninsula in eastern China, but the petrogenesis of these granites, the magma sources, and the geodynamic setting of the magmatism remain unclear. This paper presents new zircon U–Pb geochronological and Lu–Hf isotopic and whole‐rock geochemical data for the Late Jurassic Queshan pluton in the Shandong Peninsula, an area that represents the boundary between the Jiaobei and Sulu ultrahigh‐pressure (UHP) terranes. Laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry zircon U–Pb dating yields Late Jurassic ages from 158 ± 1 to 153 ± 1 Ma for the pluton in addition to a small number of inherited zircons that yield ages that cluster at 2410, 1831–1776, 750, and 209–202 Ma. Zircons from different samples have similar 176Hf/177Hf values (0.281926–0.282255) and variably negative εHf (t) values that range from −26.5 to −15.1 (weighted mean of −22.9 ± 0.9). The corresponding two‐stage Hf model ages range from 2,869 to 2,154 Ma, with a weighted mean value of 2,645 ± 54 Ma. These data indicate that the magmas that formed the Queshan pluton were derived from multiple sources, including the lower crust of the North China (NCC) and Yangtze (YC) cratons, as well as collision‐related alkaline rocks. The whole‐rock geochemical compositions of the samples indicate that the granites are weakly peraluminous, are high‐K and calc‐alkaline with I‐type affinities, and have high contents of Sr, low contents of Y and Yb, high (La/Yb)N and Sr/Y values, and positive Eu anomalies (δEu = 1.20–1.65), indicating an adakitic affinity. This indicates that the Queshan granites formed from magmas generated by partial melting of a thickened region of the crust (>50 km) associated with eclogite, garnet amphibolite, or amphibolite residual material. The genesis of the Late Jurassic granites are also likely to have been influenced by the collisional orogeny between the NCC and YC and continued subduction of the Izanagi Plate. Thickening of the lower crust associated with this continental collisional event occurred before the magmatism, with further compression and thickening of the lower crust caused by the low‐angle subduction of the Izanagi Plate beneath northeastern China being the main geodynamic driver of the formation of the granites in this region. Hainan Island is a key part of the eastern Tethyan region and contains detailed geological information that can enhance our understanding of the tectonic evolution of this region since the late Palaeozoic. In this paper, we report geochronological, geochemical, and Sr–Nd isotopic data for granitoids from Baomei and Chahe in the northern part of Hainan Island. Three new zircon U–Pb ages of 243.3 ± 1.7 Ma, 237.1 ± 5.1 Ma, and 257.0 ± 4.0 Ma were obtained for these granitoids. The late Permian Chahe granite (257 Ma) is weakly peraluminous to peraluminous, and has rare earth element patterns and Ga/Al and FeOT/MgO ratios typical of A‐type granites formed in an extensional tectonic setting. The Middle Triassic Baomei granitoids (243–237 Ma) are weakly peraluminous, and exhibit a negative correlation between P2O5 and SiO2, which is typical of I‐type granites. All the granitoids have EM II‐type‐enriched mantle Sr–Nd isotopic compositions, which indicate that they were derived from a mantle source that had experienced enrichment and metasomatism. Hainan Island was in an extensional tectonic setting from the late Permian to Middle Triassic when widespread A‐ and I‐type granites were generated. We speculate that Hainan Island was mainly affected by the Tethyan tectonic domain during the Permian–Triassic, which involved closure of the Palaeo‐Tethys Ocean, collision of the Indochina and South China blocks, and subsequent post‐collisional extension. The Kelameili Ocean was one branch of the Palaeo‐Asian Ocean, the initiation and closure history of which remains elusive. Consequently, they hamper our understanding of the accretionary evolution of the southern Altaids. In this paper, we carried out field mapping and also geochronological and geochemical analyses on the Huangcaopo Group in the northern Harlik Mountains, NW China. Field investigation revealed that "block‐in‐matrix" structure develops with blocks of andesite, limestone, sandstone, and gabbro in matrices of turbidites. Combined with our recent work, our field investigation indicates that the Huangcaopo Group is the southern extension of the Kelameili accretionary complex. A gabbro block (19HAM057) was dated at 500 ± 4 Ma, its geochemical affinity was defined to be similar to arc magmatic rocks. Magmatisms represented by two gabbroic intrusions (19HAM057‐2 and 19HAM048) were dated at the latest Devonian (360 ± 5 Ma) and the latest Carboniferous (299 ± 4 Ma), respectively. Their geochemistry displays enrichments in light rare earth elements (LREE) and large ion lithophile elements (LILE), but depletions in high field strength elements (HFSE, especially Nb and Ta). And a younger gabbroic intrusion (19HAM052) yielded crystallization age of the latest Permian (254 ± 3 Ma), and its geochemistry also shows affinity to arc magmatism. The magmatism represented by the gabbro block (19HAM057) was coeval with the Zhaheba‐Aermantai ophiolite, indicating that it was the product of incipient arc magmatism following subduction initiation in the Kelameili branch of the Palaeo‐Asian Ocean. However, two episodes of gabbroic magmas (19HAM057‐2 and 19HAM048) that intruded the Kelameili accretionary complex from the latest Devonian to latest Carboniferous indicate southward rollback of the subducting Kelameili oceanic lithosphere and resulted in the development of a growing arc. Meanwhile, the youngest gabbroic intrusion (19HAM052) suggests that northward subduction of the Kelameili oceanic lithosphere may have at least lasted to the latest Permian, indicating that the closure of the Kelameili Ocean might have been later than the latest Permian, most likely in the early Triassic. Our new data provide further constraints on the initiation and closure history of the Kelameili Ocean, which shed light on the accretionary evolution of the Altaids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Kuqa Basin is an important potentially potash-bearing basin in China, and thick salt-bearing strata were deposited under the influence of multistage Tethyan transgression-regression cycles during the Eocene. At present, research on the process of potash formation in the Kuqa Basin has mostly focused on traditional salt mineralogy, whole-rock geochemistry, and evaporite sedimentary evolution characteristics. However, research on the original ore-forming parent fluid directly related to potash formation has not yet been carried out, directly hindering further evaluation of potash mineralization. Therefore, this paper takes the internal factors controlling potash formation as the starting point and analyzes the physical and chemical properties, such as the homogenization temperatures ( T h ) and chemical compositions, of primary halite fluid inclusions. A total of 220 T h data from fluid inclusions were obtained, and the temperatures ranged from 9.4 to 54.1°C, indicating a high-temperature brine environment conducive to the rapid deposition of the potash deposit. In total, 22 halite fluid inclusions were analyzed for chemical components. The highest KCl content reached 0.59%, which was higher than the lowest industrial grade of potassium-rich brine (0.5%), indicating that the brine experienced a high degree of evaporation and concentration during the salt-forming period and reached the potash precipitation stage. This paper provides quantitative data on the evolution of the sedimentary environment in the Kuqa Basin and supports future potash exploration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several Palaeozoic ophiolitic mélanges distributed in the West Junggar, Xinjiang, are remnants of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean evolution. They are important keys for studying the component, tectonic evolution, and crust–mantle interaction of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). This paper presents petrology, zircon U‐Pb chronology, geochemistry, and Hf isotope data of mafic rocks from the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange, West Junggar. The zircon U‐Pb chronology data of gabbro in the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange can be divided into two groups. The first group magmatic zircons yield a weighted mean age of 389.7 ± 7.7 Ma. It suggests that gabbros of the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange were formed during the period of Early‐middle Devonian, which represents the main period that the Dalabute back‐arc ocean basin expanded. The second group inherited zircons with ages ranging from 910 to 975 Ma were interpreted as Neoproterozoic materials of basement entered its magmatic source. Geochemical characteristics show that the mafic rocks from the Dalabute ophiolitic mélange can be subdivided into alkaline and tholeiite series. Whole‐rock and Hf isotopic data indicate that alkaline basalts have the signatures of typical OIB and formed in the oceanic island or seamount settings related to mantle plume, which were most likely derived from an enriched mantle source. Besides, tholeiitic rocks exhibit the features of MORB and generated in an immature back‐arc basin in the supra‐subduction zone. Their magmas originated from a depleted mantle that had been metasomatized by subduction‐related fluids and contaminated by materials with crustal nature. Therefore, Dalabute ophiolites are supposed to be generated from a back‐arc oceanic basin, which is relate to intra‐subduction and with mantle plumes developed within it. These results jointly provide convincing evidence for the evolution and property of the Dalabute ophiolite in the West Junggar and further supply reference and base for reconstruct the evolutionary history of the CAOB. The Tianshan Belt, which lies in the southwest part of Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), is characterized by abundant ophiolites or ophiolitic mélanges, which are indicators of the existence of oceanic basin can be used for tracking the tectonic evolutionary history of the orogen. The Bindaban (BD) ophiolitic mélange is located in the Central Tianshan Belt, northwest China, which comprises mainly gabbros, diabases, basalts, basaltic lavas (greenschist), and cherts. This paper presents new zircon geochronology, whole‐rock major and trace elements, and Sr, Nd isotope data for mafic rocks in the BD ophiolitic mélanges. In the eastern part of BD ophiolitic mélanges, one normal (N)‐MORB‐type basalt has a U–Pb zircon age of 265.2 ± 1.8 Ma, and one enriched‐MORB‐type dolorite in the western part of BD ophiolitic mélanges has an age of 425.4 ± 3.9 Ma, respectively, indicating either an existing ocean basin from continental rifting to normal oceanic spreading with a long time span from late Silurian to Permain, or two separate ocean basins that formed in late Permian and late Silurian during the Paleo‐Tianshan Ocean evolution. In particular, the 265.2 ± 1.8 Ma age of N‐MORB‐type basalt from BD ophiolitic mélange suggests the youngest oceanic basin (late Permian) existed in southwest CAOB, which reveals that Paleo‐Asian Ocean might last to late Permian, therefore finally closed in or after the late Permian in the North Tianshan area. The Devonian volcanic rocks are widely distributed in the East Junggar (Xinjiang, NW China), preserving important magmatic records for investigating Palaeozoic tectonic evolution. The Beitashan Formation is mainly composed of pyroclastic rocks and sedimentary rocks in the lower section and intermediate–basic volcanic lava and pyroclastic rocks in the upper section. In this paper, we present geochronological, geochemical, and in situ Lu–Hf isotopic data for Beitashan Formation volcanic rocks from the East Junggar. Zircon U–Pb analyses from a basalt sample by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry yielded a weighted mean age of 387.8 ± 4.5 Ma, indicating that it was generated in the Middle Devonian. The basic–intermediate volcanic rocks are tholeiitic to calc‐alkalic and are characterized by MgO (2.29–5.91 wt.%), low TiO2 (0.75–1.36 wt.%), and relatively high Al2O3 (15.82–16.73 wt.%). Furthermore, they display enrichment in light rare‐earth elements and large‐ion lithophile elements (such as Ba and Sr) and depletion in Nb, Ta, and Ti, along with slightly positive Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.83–1.15) and Ce anomalies (δCe = 1.00–1.11). In addition, in situ zircon Hf isotopic analyses from basalt samples show εHf(t) values ranging from +4.33 to +15.2, indicating a depleted mantle source with minor crustal contamination. They also show relatively low Nb/Zr (0.04–0.06), Th/Yb (0.67–3.83), and Ba/La (6.79–67.53) and high Ce/Th (7.71–18.94), Ba/Rb (21.39–294.28), and Ba/Th (31.42–486.58). The geochemical data suggest these rocks were likely derived from 10% to 30% partial melting of a garnet‐rich with minor spinel‐bearing Iherzolite depleted mantle metasomatized by slab‐derived fluids, with crustal contamination. Combined with the geological setting and previous studies, we suggest that the northern East Junggar was in a northward‐subducted island‐arc setting in the Devonian. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Jiapigou gold ore belt is located in the northeastern corner of the wedge‐shaped North China Craton and is hosted by Neoarchean basement gneiss and amphibolite, along with late Palaeozoic and Mesozoic granitoids. In this paper, whole‐rock major and trace element geochemistry together with zircon U–Pb ages and Lu–Hf isotope compositions are reported for Late Permian to Triassic igneous rocks from the gold belt. The dominant population of zircons in all these rocks shows oscillatory growth zoning in CL images, and relatively high Th/U ratios (0.10–5.23) that are indicative of a magmatic origin. Zircon U–Pb data indicate that the igneous rocks formed during two major phases: ca. 252 Ma and ca. 230–213 Ma. Geochemically, the Late Permian (ca. 252 Ma) diorites are high‐K calc‐alkaline in composition and low total Fe2O3, MgO, and CaO contents, and represented by enrichment in LILEs relative to HFSEs and HREEs, all of which are indicative of a postcollision high‐K calc‐alkaline granite affinity. In contrast, the Late Triassic (ca. 230–213 Ma) igneous rocks are mainly quartz syenite porphyries, felsites, and granodiorites, and are variable medium‐ to high‐K calc‐alkaline series and exhibit a negative Eu anomaly with A‐type affinities, indicating an extensional environment. In addition, in situ Hf isotopic analyses of zircons from four dated samples reveal that they have εHf(t) values of −3.0 to +2.2, with two‐stage model (TDM2) ages range from 964 to 1,210 Ma, indicating that they probably originated from the partial melting of a dominantly Mesoproterozoic to Neoproterozoic crustal source. On the basis of the geochemical data and regional geological investigations, we further propose that the Jiapigou gold ore belt in the Late Permian was formed in a postcollisional tectonic setting, whereas an extensional tectonic setting in the Late Triassic that caused lithospheric thinning during a postorogenic event. Carboniferous volcanic rocks are widely distributed in the Junggar Basin and may provide a unique insight into the tectonic history of this basin. In this paper, we focus on the tectonic evolution of the northern Junggar Basin (NJB) using geochronological and geochemical data to establish the diachronous closure model for the Keramaili oceanic basin. The Lower Carboniferous strata in the eastern part (well WC‐1) and the Upper Carboniferous strata in the western part (well Y‐2) of the NJB are composed of a mix of compositional and rock‐type forms. These volcanic rocks are mostly high‐K assemblages characterized by high K (1.73–6.48%), high alkali (Na2O + K2O = 5.04–7.45%), and low TiO2 (0.57–1.06%). They also exhibit various REE concentrations (68.44–168.19 ppm), an enrichment of LREE (LaN/YbN = 4.54–8.09), and small negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.74–0.90). The depletion of HFSE and relevant tectonic setting discrimination diagrams demonstrate that these two volcanic associations were formed in a subduction‐related environment. The data also indicate that the high‐K volcanic rocks are derived from a mix of melted subducted sediments and mantle metasomatized by silica‐rich fluids. Although these two sets of volcanic rocks formed in Early and Late Carboniferous, the similar petrographic and geochemical natures suggest similar magma source and tectonic setting. Along with different regional tectonic settings in the NJB during the Carboniferous, we propose an asynchronous subduction of Keramaili oceanic basin, resulting in the inconsistent temporal and spatial distribution of Upper Carboniferous volcanic rocks in the NJB. The Wulong deposit is a large gold deposit in the Liaodong peninsula (North China Craton). Silicic and pyrite alterations are well-developed in the deposit and closely related to mineralization. The least altered and silicified microdiorite samples were selected for major and trace element analyses to reveal the elemental migration/enrichment. Pyrites of stage 1 (Py1) were selected for backscattered electron (BSE) imaging and LA-ICP-MS trace element analyses to reveal their possible metallogenic link. Mass balance calculation showed that Al2O3, CaO, Fe2O3, K2O, SiO2, Ag, As, Cu, and Pb were brought in, whereas MgO, Na2O, FeO, Cr, Zn, and Ni were leached out during silicification. LA-ICP-MS trace element analyses show that Py1 has higher Au and Zn contents than Py2 and Py3, Py2 has higher Au and Cu contents than Py1 and Py3, and Py3 has higher Pb, Cu, and As contents than Py1 and Py2. During the process of silicification and pyritization, the depleted H+ concentration and HS− concentration in the ore-forming fluids led to instability of the Au(HS)2− complexes and led to gold precipitation. The depleted sulfur and the reduced temperature during the precipitated of bismuthinite also led to instability of the Au(HS)2− complexes and gold precipitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The classification system, effective reservoir control elements, and major enrichment and exploration modes of helium resources in China are analyzed based on the source of helium, carrier, geological background, and anatomy of typical helium-rich fields. Firstly, based on the special characteristics of helium and the correlation analysis of natural gas accumulation and reservoir formation, we analyzed and sorted out the helium resource and play type classification scheme and classification system in China from nine aspects, namely, the source of helium parental sources, helium type diversities, the storage and carrier types, the technically and economically recoverable characteristics of carrier gases, the carrier gas genesis, the main components of carrier gases, the matching combination of helium sources and reservoirs, background of prototype basin structure, and helium content, to lay the foundation for the subsequent targeted and detailed studies and evaluation programs in different categories. Secondly, the analysis points out the characteristics of helium resource types in the east, middle, and west of China in terms of longitudinal and transverse distribution, tectonic dynamics, geological and geochemical characteristics, and key conditions for the formation of helium deposits. Thirdly, from the perspective of the helium “generation-migration-accumulation” system and the controlling elements and effectiveness of helium-rich reservoir formation, we analyze the effective controlling elements of helium accumulation and the related problems that deserve attention in geological evaluation and point out the misunderstandings in helium reservoir formation and exploration evaluation. Last but not least, from the perspective of basin tectonic background, helium enrichment controlling mechanism and exploration direction, the exploration and evaluation direction and classification scheme for the four element combination zones of “original basin–structure–lithology–carrier gas” helium accumulation in China have been proposed, based on which, four types of basins and eight types of helium-rich zones in China have been sorted out. In these eight types of helium-rich zones, eight typical helium-rich field enrichment and exploration patterns, including the ancient uplift type of China's craton, fracture-fold variant of the craton margin, fracture-rise type of depression basin, slope bulge and uplift type of foreland basin, fracture-convex type of fracture basin, and U/Th-rich basement type of basin were analyzed, and the main controlling factors of the formation of different types of helium-rich deposits were analyzed, which will provide a reference for the subsequent exploration and discovery of similar helium-rich areas and exploration target evaluation. Carbonates have been known to act as hydrocarbon source rocks, but their basic geochemical and associated hydrocarbon generation characteristics remain not well understood as they occur with argillaceous source rocks in most cases, and the hydrocarbon generation from each rock type is difficult to distinguish, forming one of puzzling issues within the field of petroleum geology and geochemistry. To improve the understanding of this critical issue, this paper reviews recent advances in this field and provides a summary of key areas that can be studied in future. Results show that carbonate source rocks are generally associated with high-salinity environments with low amounts of terrestrial inputs and low dissolved oxygen contents. Petrographically, these source rocks are dark gray or black, fine-grained, stratified, and contain bacterial and algal bioprecursors along with some other impurities. They generally have low organic matter contents, although these can vary significantly in different cases (e.g., the total organic carbon contents of marine and lacustrine carbonate source rocks in China are generally 0.1%–1.0% and 0.4%–4.0%, respectively). These rocks contain type I and type II kerogen, meaning there is a lack of vitrinites. This means that assessment of the maturity of the organic matter in these sediments needs to use non-traditional techniques rather than vitrinite reflectance. In terms of molecular geochemistry, carbonate source rocks have typical characteristics indicative of generally reducing and saline environments and lower organism-dominated bioprecursors of organic matter, e.g., high contents of sulfur compounds, low Pr/Ph ratios, and dominance of n-alkanes. Most of the carbonate source rocks are typically dominated by D-type organic facies in an oxidized shallow water mass, although high-quality source rocks generally contain A- and B-type organic facies in saline lacustrine and marine-reducing environments, respectively. The hydrocarbon generation model for the carbonate source rocks can involve early, middle, and late stages, with a diversity of hydrocarbons within these rocks, which can be aggregated, adsorbed, enclosed within minerals, or present as inclusions. This in turn implies that the large-scale hydrocarbon expulsion from these rocks is reliant on brittle deformation caused by external forces. Finally, a number of aspects of these source rocks remain unclear and need further study, including the effectiveness of carbonates as hydrocarbon source rocks, bioprecursors, and hydrocarbon generation models of carbonate source rock, and the differences between marine and lacustrine carbonate source rocks. West Junggar is located at the southwest margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt and includes Silurian pillow basalts of the Mayilashan Formation. The petrogenesis and tectonic setting of these pillow basalts are important for the understanding of the tectonic evolution and metallogeny of the West Junggar area. This paper presents geochronological, geochemical, and whole‐rock Sr–Nd–Pb isotope data from the pillow basalts of the Mayilashan Formation. Zircon LA‐ICP‐MS U–Pb dating of a pillow basalt, which is in conformable contact with the chert, suggests that they were erupted at 437.2 ± 2.2 Ma marking the timing of generation of these rocks as Middle Silurian. Geochemically, all the pillow basalts bear the signature of ocean island basalt (OIB), and are characterized by alkaline affinity with high concentrations of TiO2 (3.28–4.12 wt.%), LILE and LREE enrichment and HREE depletion ((La/Yb)N = 5.5–7.3), with very weak Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.96–1.06), and no obvious Nb, Ta, or Ti negative anomalies. Their Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic compositions ((87Sr/86Sr)I = 0.7037–0.7051, εNd(t) = 1.9–2.9, 206Pb/204Pbi = 17.74–18.22, 207Pb/204Pbi = 15.48–15.52, and 208Pb/204Pbi = 36.49–37.86) show Dupal‐like isotopic signature of ophiolites in the southern Paleo‐Asian Ocean. These characteristics indicate that the magmas were derived from a deep OIB reservoir, that is, a depleted but slightly heterogeneous asthenospheric mantle source with ~5–15% partial melting of garnet and spinel lherzolite. Our obtained results, in conjunction with previous published data, allow us to suggest that the alkaline pillow basalts formed in a seamount within an intraoceanic setting, where a larger number of seamounts with different ages occurred in the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. In this paper, the data of thin section, organic petrology, geochemistry, lithology and porosity were used to investigate enrichment conditions of Hetaoyuan Formation shale oil in the Biyang Depression. The results show the shale oil is a kind of low-maturity oil with medium density and low viscosity, and main factors controlling shale oil enrichment include total organic content (TOC), formation pressure, lithofacies and effective reservoirs. Shales in the fifth organic-rich interval are developed widely with large thickness (reach up to 150 m), high TOC content (2.0–4.68%), better organic matter types (type I and II1) and appropriate thermal maturity (usually larger than 0.5%), which are beneficial to generate much hydrocarbon, and volume expansion causes overpressure in source rock, especially in sections with low hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency due to less fractures. Free hydrocarbons S1 values increase with TOC contents, and significant overpressure correlates with the larger OSI (S1/TOC × 100) values and porosity. Well-developed calcareous shales and argillaceous shales with silty shale interlayers have better porosity, and effective pores (throat diameters greater than 10 nm) contribute to 47.5% of the total volume. This paper reports on the petrography, geochemistry, and geochronology of late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the Wenkutu area of the northern Great Xing'an Range, North‐east China, and discusses the formation age, petrogenesis, and tectonic environment of the Manketouebo, Manitu, Baiyingaolao, and Meiletu formations. Results of Zircon U–Pb dating show that the volcanic rocks in the Wenkutu area were formed during the Early Cretaceous (Manketouebo Formation at 145 ± 1 Ma, Manitu Formation at 141.3 ± 1.7 Ma, Baiyingaolao Formation at 128.7 ± 1.1 Ma, and Meiletu Formation at 129 ± 1 Ma). The Manketouebo, Manitu, and Baiyingaolao formations are dominated by intermediate to acid volcanic rocks that belong to the high‐K calc‐alkaline series, with Eu/Eu* values of 0.38–0.84.They are enriched in light rare earth elements (LREE) and depleted in heavy rare earth elements (HREE). The Meiletu Formation is dominated by intermediate to basic volcanic rocks, belongs to the high‐K calc‐alkaline series, has Eu/Eu* values of 0.89–0.97, and is enriched in Ba, K, Th, U, La, Ce, Sr, Nd, and Hf but relatively depleted in Nb, Ta, Zr, P, and Ti, with no obvious fractionation of LREE and HREE. Results indicate that the magma of the Manketouebo, Manitu, and Baiyingaolao formations had a crustal origin, whereas the Meiletu Formation was sourced from the mantle and subsequently contaminated by crustal materials. The late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the study area were formed during an orogenic stage, and the compressional environment was caused by subduction of the paleo‐Pacific Plate below the Asian continental plate. The Eastern Yanbian area, Northeast China is tectonically located in the easternmost margin of the Xing'an Mongolian Orogenic Belt, which is a key area for providing important evidence of mineral deposits to constrain the tectonic evolution of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean. Five quartz‐vein‐type scheelite deposits have been identified in the eastern Yanbian area. These deposits are hosted within the late Palaeozoic metamorphic and granitic rocks and form under the identical hydrothermal mineralization. Zircon U–Pb ages and whole‐rock geochemistry of the ore‐hosting biotite granite and Sm–Nd ages of scheelite crystals within quartz veins are presented in this paper. Zircon U–Pb dating of the biotite granite yields a weighted mean age of 251.9 ± 2.2 Ma (mean standard weighted deviation (MSWD) = 4), and Sm–Nd dating of scheelite samples yields an isochron age of 251.7 ± 2.9 Ma (MSWD = 0.87), which constrains the scheelite mineralization in Eastern Yanbian to the late Permian. Our results, integrated with published geochronological data, indicate three periods of Phanerozoic W mineralization in Northeast China, (a) Cambrian, (b) late Permian (this work), and (c) Jurassic. Geochemical data reveal that the biotite granite is a calc‐alkaline I‐type granite, and it exhibits enrichment in large‐ion lithophile and light rare earth elements and depletion in high‐field‐strength and heavy rare earth elements (especially in Nb and Ta), consistent with the characteristics of arc magma. The subduction‐related biotite granite intrusion and quartz‐vein‐type scheelite mineralization together indicate that the Paleo‐Asian Ocean had not closed before the late Permian in the Eastern Yanbian area, and its final closure occurred in the Early‐Middle Triassic. The late Permian subduction of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean induced the partial melting of the lower crust, thus forming the magmatic arc activity and related quartz‐vein‐type scheelite mineralization, which clearly justifies the proposed tectonic–metallogenic model. The Kaiyuan tectonic mélange makes up the western part of the Kaiyuan–Yanji Accretionary Complex Belt, NE China, and there has been a long‐standing controversy about its age and tectonic setting. In this paper, we present new zircon U–Pb ages and geochemical data for the mafic rocks of the Lujiapuzi Formation in the Kaiyuan tectonic mélange, and these data provide insights into the tectonic setting during the late Paleozoic and the evolutionary history of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean in the eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). SHRIMP U–Pb dating of zircons from samples of albite–actinolite schist and amphibolite yielded a crystallization age of 258 ± 5.5 Ma for the protoliths, suggesting that the protoliths formed during the late Permian. The albite–actinolite schists and amphibolites have similar geochemical characteristics, and they represent metamorphosed basaltic volcanic rocks. Major, rare earth and trace element data show that the mafic rocks have a close affinity with mid‐ocean ridge basalt. REE petrogenetic modelling indicates that the primary magma was generated through the partial melting of a mixed garnet‐ and spinel‐bearing mantle source, and assimilated crustal material and underwent crystal fractionation during ascent. The geochemical features and inherited/xenocrystic zircons in the mafic samples indicate that they formed in a tectonic setting similar to the back‐arc basin. These new findings, together with other previously published data, indicate that the Paleo‐Asian Ocean still existed in the eastern segment of the CAOB during the late Permian to Early Triassic. The Early Precambrian magmatism in the Archean–Palaeoproterozoic basement Yudongzi Complex is critical for understanding the early crustal formation and evolutionary history of the Yangtze Block in the South China Craton. In this paper, combined zircon UPb geochronological, zircon Hf isotopic, and whole‐rock geochemical studies are carried out on the granitoid gneisses from the Yudongzi Complex, north‐western Yangtze Block. The magmatic zircons from the granitoid gneiss yield a UPb upper intercept age of 2,477±18 Ma, interpreted as the crystallization age of the granitoid gneiss. The granitoid gneiss samples are characterized by high Al2O3 contents, moderate to high Sr/Y, (La/Yb)N and Na2O/K2O ratios, no obvious Eu and Sr anomalies, and depleted Nb, Ta, and Ti values that are similar to those of Archean trondhjemite–tonalite–granodiorite (TTG) suites, indicating that the investigated rocks belonging to TTG‐series rocks. They display pronounced enriched‐LREE patterns with high La/Yb values and relatively high Zr/Sm and Eu/Eu* but low Nb/Ta and Dy/Yb ratios, implying that these rocks were formed by partial melting within amphibolite‐facies conditions with mainly residual amphibole, garnet, and accessory rutile in the magma source. These rocks also display apparently low MgO, Mg#, Ni, and Cr contents, suggesting derivation from partial melting of thickened ancient lower crust. Zircon εHf(t) values from the granitoid gneiss sample vary from −10.1 to −6.9 with TDM2 of ca. 3.59–3.40 Ga, what demonstrates their crustal source nature as well. Thus, taking all these factors together, we propose that the ca. 2.48 Ga granitoid gneisses in the Yudongzi Complex might have been produced by partial melting of ancient crust material under amphibolite‐facies conditions, with primarily residual assemblages of amphibole, garnet, and attached rutile. Due to the importance of the wide occurrence of thick coal seams for Chinese coal resources, the origins of these seams have received considerable attention. Using the Early Cretaceous No. 5 coal seam with a thickness of 16.8 m in Inner Mongolia as a case study, this paper presents a systematic investigation of the coal petrology, geochemistry, and palynology of 19 coal samples to explain the origin and evolution of peat accumulation. The results indicate that the No. 5 coal seam is generally characterized by low rank (lignite), dominant huminite (average = 82.3%), intermediate ash yield (average = 16.03%), and sulfur content (average = 1.12%). The proportion of spores generally increases from the bottom to the top of the coal seam, whereas the proportion of pollen decreases. The vegetation in the coal seam is dominated by gymnosperms at the bottom and by ferns at the top. The paleographic precursor peat was most likely accumulated in the lakeshore where herbaceous and bushy helophytes were dominant. The total sulfur content was positively related to the huminite content. The sulfur content was possibly derived from bacterial action with sulfur brought in via marine incursions. Three overall declining-increasing values of carbon isotopes within the No. 5 coal seam possibly indicated three general cooling trends during peat accumulation. The environment of peat accumulation included three cycles, including one drying-wetting-drying in the bottom part and two drying-upwards cycles in the upper part. These cycles of the peat-accumulation environment could likely be ascribed to climate change because of their good agreement with humidity signals from plant types at that stage. Cadmium is considered an important toxicant of major environmental and occupational concern. It can contaminate water, soil, and the atmosphere through coal mining, beneficiation, combustion, etc. This paper is based on the published literature, especially those data reported during the recent 10 years, including 2999 individual samples from 116 coalfields or mines in 26 provinces in China. The arithmetic mean of cadmium in Chinese coals is 0.43 µg/g. Taking the coal reserves into consideration, the average value of cadmium in coal is estimated as 0.28 µg/g. Cadmium is mostly enriched in the Southern coal-distribution area during the Late Permian. Furthermore, cadmium is highly enriched in Hunan and Chongqing. The modes of occurrence of cadmium in Chinese coals are quite complex. Cadmium in Chinese coals has been found in sulfides, organic matter, silicate minerals, and other minerals. A marine environment may be the most significant factor that influences the cadmium accumulation in coal from the Southern coal-distribution area during the Late Permian. This paper studies the mineralization process and the ore-forming setting of the Kantian fluorite deposit in South China through the zircon U-Pb chronology, quartz Rb-Sr dating, whole rock geochemistry, H-O isotope and fluid inclusions. A mineralization model for the Kantian fluorite deposit is proposed as follows: The subduction of the Pacific plate during the late mid-Jurassic and late Jurassic led to the formation of several fault zones. As the subduction gradually decelerated and eventually ceased, continental extension and lithosphere thinning occurred, accompanied by upwelling of the asthenosphere. This asthenosphere upwelling facilitated melting of the lithospheric mantle, resulting in the ascent of magma into the lower crust. Consequently, the intrusion of magma into the lower crust caused substantial heat, triggering partial melting of the lower crust. The molten material then ascended along faults, generating a significant quantity of granites. During the Early Cretaceous period, the Yanshan cycle witnessed another notable phase of magmatic activity. The residual magmatic hydrothermal fluid from this period served as a source of heating, while the pre-existing fault structures provided favorable pathways and storage space. Atmospheric precipitation infiltrated into the depth along these faults, and the deep-seated residual magmatic hydrothermal fluid heated the infiltrated atmospheric water, inducing cyclic upwelling. The upward migration of hydrothermal fluid continuously extracted Ca and F elements from the granites. Ongoing interaction between the fluid and the surrounding rocks led to changes in pH, coupled with alterations in temperature and pressure, ultimately resulting in the precipitation of fluorite with associated alteration zones in the surrounding rocks. The Yanshanian events have led to the development of South China as a unique granite province globally. Within South Jiangxi, numerous metallic and non-metallic deposits have a close association with Mesozoic granite formations. The Kantian fluorite deposit, a newly discovered non-metallic deposit in southern Jiangxi Province, is one such deposit that is linked to Mesozoic granites. The orebody at the Kantian fluorite deposit is identified as occurring in veined structures within the silicification fracture zone of Mesozoic granites, with strict control exerted by fault systems. Fluorite ore can be classified into two categories based on the amount of quartz and fluorite. The first category is the fluorite quartz type, which has a higher amount of quartz than fluorite. The second category is quartz fluorite type, which has more fluorite than quartz. Among these two categories, the quartz fluorite type is precipitated during the primary mineralization stage. Through the analysis of fluid inclusions within the fluorite, it was determined that the homogenization temperature is relatively low, ranging from 133 to 236℃. The fluid inclusions also display low salinity (0.18–3.39 wt% NaCl eqv.) and low density (0.75–0.96 g/cm3). Laser Raman spectroscopy revealed that the primary components of the fluid inclusions are H 2 O, with minor C 3 H 6. Isotope analysis indicated δD VSMOW values of fluorite ranging from −61.9 ‰ to −54.8 ‰ (average −59.8 ‰), while δ18O VSMOW values varied from 1.3 ‰ to 3.1 ‰ (average 2.0 ‰). This study presents chronological, petrological and geochemical data that suggest several processes. The metallogenic age is 135.6 ± 0.7 Ma. Hence, delving into the genesis of gray sandstone within the red beds proves beneficial for both uranium exploration and unraveling the ore-forming mechanisms. However, there is currently significant controversy surrounding the genesis of gray sandstone in the red beds. This paper focuses on the typical uranium deposit in the red beds—the HLJ-DL uranium deposit in the southwestern part of the Songliao Basin. It investigates the genesis of gray sandstone within uranium-bearing rock series and its relationship with uranium mineralization. The lithology of representative drill cores, including the red sandstone for comparative study, is methodically examined, along with their elemental geochemistry as well as carbon and oxygen isotope characteristics. The petrological characteristics suggest that both the gray and red sandstone share similar compositions of clastic particles, indicating minimal influence of the source rock on the sandstone color. The gray sandstone displays comparable TOC content (averaging around 0.05 %) and δ18O PDB values (averaging around −16 ‰) to the red sandstone. However, it exhibits relatively higher δ13C PDB values (averaging −0.26 ‰), whereas the average δ13C PDB value for the red beds is −1.61 ‰. The data indicate that the gray sandstone is less affected by hydrothermal or hydrocarbon fluids. Compared to the red sandstone, which has relatively higher Cu/Al values (averaging 1.09) and Fe3+/Fe2+ ratios (averaging 3.37), the gray sandstone exhibits low Cu/Al values (averaging 0.44) and a low Fe3+/Fe2+ ratio (averaging 0.36), suggesting its formation in a relatively reducing environment. The reducing conditions necessary for the formation of gray sandstone may stem from the climate becoming relatively warm and humid, irrespective of whether it originates from the original sedimentary environment or is induced by the reducing pore water discharged from dark mudstones. The chemical weathering index of fine-grained sediments indicates that, the gray sandstones were commonly configured in relatively humid-warm climate with fairly low dissolved oxygen content in the bottom water. Additionally, the deposition of the uranium-bearing rock series experienced alternating climatic changes, rather than consistently being in a humid-warm climate. This resulted in the sand bodies with low TOC content, insufficient reducing potential, and uranium mineralization primarily occurring in the interior of the basin. Organic matter has a relatively weak control over uranium mineralization, whereas uranium mineralization shows a certain correlation with iron reduction. The ore-forming fluid was uranium-rich oxygenated atmospheric water. Dark-colored mudstones, formed under humid-warm climatic condition, contain relatively high TOC contents (avg. 0.43 %) and exhibit a strong reducing capacity. The reducing pore water in dark-colored mudstones excreted into the adjacent sandstones under compaction during the early diagenesis, is able to serve as a vital reducing agent in later-stage uranium mineralization. Additionally, certain dark-colored mudstones with high uranium content (up to 944 ppm) undergo significant uranium pre-enrichment, providing a partial uranium source for uranium mineralization. The Erlian Basin is a Mesozoic–Cenozoic rift basin with a large thick Pliocene sandstones deposit, which has important oil, gas, and uranium resources exploration potential. The paleo-sedimentary environment plays an important role in controlling the development of mineral resource. However, provenance and depositional environment of the Pliocene sandstones remain enigmatic. To address it, this study reports the whole rock geochemical compositions of sandstones from the Youqi and Siziwangqi regions to reflect the paleo-sedimentary environment. The Youqi sandstones are classified as litharenite-arkose, whereas the Siziwangqi sandstones exhibit a graywacke affinity. Furthermore, both the Youqi and Siziwangqi sandstones exhibit low CIA, PIA, ICV, and Th/U values, suggesting that their source rocks were of great maturation and experienced low to moderate chemical weathering processes. The Ni/Co, U/Th, and Ce/Ce* values in these sandstones range from 0.4 to 5.9, 0.20 to 0.37, and 0.80 to 1.09, respectively, indicating that these sandstones were formed in an oxygen-rich depositional environment. Additionally, interelement ratios such as Sr/Cu, SiO2/Al2O3, and Rb/Sr suggest a hot and arid paleoclimate during the deposition of these sandstones. Tectonic discrimination diagrams reveal a continental arc environment for the studied sandstones, Combining regional structural background, implying that the Erlian Basin was influenced by both Himalayan and the Pacific-Ocean-surrounding tectonism during the Pliocene period. The early Triassic (~250 Ma) hornblende gabbro from the Tengxian area of Yunkai Massif, South China, contains a mineral assemblage of clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, plagioclase, K-feldspar and quartz and accessory apatite, and zircon and ilmenite. Based on mineral association and crystallization sequence, two generations of the mineral assemblage have been identified: clinopyroxene + plagioclase + apatite (zircon) in Generation I and ilmenite + hornblende + biotite + K-feldspar + quartz in Generation II. The high crystallization temperature (T = 999–1069 °C) of clinopyroxene and its coexistence with labradorite (An = 52–58) indicate that Generation I crystallized in a basaltic magma, while the hornblende's relatively low crystallization temperature (T = 780–820 °C) and coexistence with K-feldspar and quartz suggest that Generation II formed in an evolved alkaline melt. The mineralogical records are likely attributed to pulsed intrusion of the late-stage evolved magma into a crystal mush, like in Generation I. The bulk-rock geochemical data include a sub-alkaline affinity, arc-type trace element features, and highly enriched Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic compositions, consistent with the isotopic records from the accessory minerals, e.g., the very high δ18O values in both zircon and apatite and significantly negative εHf(t) in zircon. The combined mineral and bulk-rock geochemical data suggest that the primary magma for the Tengxian hornblende gabbro was derived from a mantle wedge that had been metasomatized by voluminous subducted terrigenous sediment-derived melts in response to subduction of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB), northwestern China, recording long-term and multiple accretionary and collisional events of the Tethyan Ocean, belongs to a high-pressure to ultra-high-pressure (HP-UHP) metamorphic belt that underwent complex metamorphic overprinting in the early Paleozoic. In this contribution, we carry out an integrated study, including field investigations, petrographic observations, whole-rock analyses, zircon U-Pb dating, and P-T condition modeling using THERMOCALC in the NCKFMASHTO system for the eclogites, especially for the newly discovered UHP eclogite in the eastern part of EKOB. The eclogites exhibit geochemistry ranging from normal mid-ocean ridge basalt (N-MORB) to enriched mid-ocean ridge basalt (E-MORB). Zircons from the eclogites yield metamorphic ages of 416–413 Ma, indicating the eclogite facies metamorphism. Coesite inclusions in garnet and omphacite and quartz exsolution in omphacite and pseudosection calculation suggest that some eclogites experienced UHP eclogite facies metamorphism. The eclogites from the eastern part of EKOB record peak conditions of 29–33 kbar/705–760 °C, first retrograde conditions of 10 kbar at 9.5–12.5 kbar/610–680 °C, and second retrograde conditions at ~6 kbar/<600 °C. New evidence of the early Paleozoic UHP metamorphism in East Kunlun is identified in our study. Thus, we suggest that these eclogites were produced by the oceanic crust subducting to the depth of 100 km and exhumation. The presence of East Gouli and Gazhima eclogites in this study and other eclogites (430–414 Ma) in East Kunlun record the final closure of the local branch ocean of the Proto-Tethys and the evolution from subduction to collision. The Zanhuang Complex is situated on the eastern margin of the Trans-North China Orogen, with the Huangcha Pluton being a constituent of this complex. To ascertain the nature of the approximately 2.5-billion-year-old Huangcha Pluton, crucial evidence for understanding its extensional setting was sought through petrogenesis and dating investigations. LA-ICP-MS dating of zircon from the granite yielded an age of (2488 ± 6) Ma. Primarily composed of porphyritic monzonite with sporadic melanocratic enclaves, the Pluton's phenocrysts are predominantly feldspar with minor quartz. The granite exhibits high SiO2 content (72.64%–74.16%) and alkali levels, with Na2O + K2O ranging from 7.59% to 9.07%, classifying it as a shoshonitic series with a slightly peraluminous feature. Enrichment in large-ion lithophile (LIL) elements (Rb, Th, and U) and depletion in Sr, V, Cr, Co, and Ni were observed, with high Rb/Sr and Ga/Al ratios ranging from 0.73 to 2.72 and 2.75 × 10−4 to 3.11 × 10−4, respectively. The rock exhibits high εNd(t) values, ranging from −0.06 to 0.88, with TDM2 ages falling between 2.79 and 2.87 billion years. Zircon grains display 176Hf/177Hf ratios ranging from 0.281266 to 0.281412 and εHf(t) values spanning from 0.96 to 6.18, calculated using the 207Pb/206Pb age. It is suggested that the Huangcha Pluton represents A-type granite formed via anatexis of the Neoarchean TTG in an extensional setting following orogenic processes. The formation of the Huangcha Pluton further corroborates the stabilization of the North China Craton towards the end of the Neoarchean. This finding supports the hypothesis that the North China Craton may belong to the Rae-family cratons, sharing similar magmatic and tectono-metamorphic records around ~2.5 billion years ago. The accurate reconstruction of the early Cambrian paleoclimate and paleoceanographic conditions on the Yangtze Plate is crucial for understanding the ancient environment during the Cambrian Explosion. It is also a key factor in understanding the ecological habits of organisms during the Cambrian Explosion. The study utilized field outcrops, thin section analysis, and major and trace elements to investigate the sedimentary environment, provenance, paleoweathering, and paleoclimate of the Lower Cambrian Hongjingshao (HJS) Formation (Cambrian Stage 3, ~515 Ma) in the Yangtze Basin, eastern Yunnan, SW China. The HJS sandstones are composed of 10 lithofacies, including massive and weakly bedded gravel supported by coarse sandstone (Gm), trough cross-bedded sandstone (St), planar cross-bedded sandstone (Sp), ripple cross-laminated sandstone (Sr), horizontal bedded sandstone (Sh), scour-fill sandstone (Se), massive sandstone (Sm), fine to medium sandstone with thin bed muddy siltstone (Fl), muddy siltstone (Fsc), and mudstone (Fm). On the basis of these lithofacies, channel fill and over-bank deposits in delta and shallow shelf depositional environments are suggested for HJS Formation. The major elements-based provenance discriminant function and mineral composition indicate that felsic rocks from the recycled orogen and continental block are the main sediment source terrane for the HJS sandstones of the study area. CIA, PIA, and CIW values range from 71.29 to 93.72, indicating an intermediate to intense chemical weathering and semiarid to humid climate conditions in Cambrian Stage 3. The research findings have clarified the paleoclimate and paleoceanographic environment of the Early Cambrian in the Yangtze region, which is of significant importance for understanding the early biological and ecological marine environment in the study area. The sandstone-type uranium deposit of the Kelulun Depression is the first industrially valuable uranium deposit discovered in the Hailar Basin. This study performed a systematic examination of 17 sandstone samples from the Yimin Formation in the Kelulun Depression based on various analytical techniques. The findings of the current study were synthesized with previous research to investigate the impact of the redox conditions and the tectonic background of the source area, as well as the paleoclimatic evolution of the Yimin Formation on uranium mineralization. The elemental Mo, U/Th, V/Cr, Ni/Co, and V/(V + Ni) ratios indicate that the paleowater was in an oxygen-rich environment during the deposition of the Yimin Formation. Additionally, the C-value, Sr/Cu, Al2O3/MgO, and Rb/Sr ratios indicate that the Yimin Formation was formed in a paleoclimate characterized by arid-to-semi-arid conditions. The geochemical characteristics of the observed elements indicated that the sediment source of the Yimin Formation was mainly felsic rocks from the upper continental crust, the weathering of the rock was weak, and the tectonic background was a passive continental margin. Coffinite is distributed in the form of cementation and stellates within or around pyrite crystals, and uranium-titanium oxide is mostly distributed in an irregular granular distribution in the biotite cleavage fractures of the study area. In summary, the findings of this study reveal that the tectonic settings, provenance, uranium source, paleoclimate, and oxygen-rich paleowater of the Yimin Formation have important geological significance for the large-scale uranium mineralization of the Kelulun Depression. The organic-rich mudstones and dolostones of the Permian Fengcheng Formation (Fm.) are typically alkaline lacustrine source rocks, which are typified by impressively abundant β-carotane. Abundant bcarotane has been well acknowledged as an effective indicator of biological sources or depositional environments. However, the specific biological sources of β-carotane and the coupling control of biological sources and environmental factors on the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm. remains obscure. Based on a comprehensive investigation of the bulk, molecular geochemistry, and organic petrology of sedimentary rocks and the biochemistry of phytoplankton in modern alkaline lakes, we proposed a new understanding of the biological precursors of β-carotane and elucidated the enrichment mechanism of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm. The results show that the biological precursors crucially control the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm. The haloalkaliphilic cyanobacteria are the primary biological sources of β-carotane, which is suggested by a good positive correlation between the 2-methylhopane index, 7- + 8-methyl heptadecanes/Cmax, C29%, and β-carotane/Cmax in sedimentary rocks and the predominance of cyanobacteria with abundant β-carotene in modern alkaline lakes. The enrichment of β-carotane requires the reducing condition, and the paleoredox state that affects the enrichment of β-carotane appears to have a threshold. The paleoclimate conditions do not considerably impact the enrichment of β-carotane, but they have some influence on the water's paleosalinity by affecting evaporation and precipitation. While it does not directly affect the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm., paleosalinity does have an impact on the cyanobacterial precursor supply and the preservation conditions. The different reservoirs in deep Songliao Basin have non-homogeneous lithologies and include multiple layers with a high content of hydrogen gas. The gas composition and stable isotope characteristics vary significantly, but the origin analysis of different gas types has previously been weak. Based on the geochemical parameters of gas samples from different depths and the analysis of geological settings, this research covers the diverse origins of natural gas in different strata. The gas components are mainly methane with a small amount of C2+, and non-hydrocarbon gases, including nitrogen (N2), hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and helium (He). At greater depth, the carbon isotope of methane becomes heavier, and the hydrogen isotope points to a lacustrine sedimentary environment. With increasing depth, the origins of N2 and CO2 change gradually from a mixture of organic and inorganic to inorganic. The origins of hydrogen gas are complex and include organic sources, water radiolysis, water-rock (Fe2+containing minerals) reactions, and mantle-derived. The shales of Denglouku and Shahezi Formations, as source rocks, provide the premise for generation and occurrence of organic gas. Furthermore, the deep faults and fluid activities in Basement Formation control the generation and migration of mantle-derived gas. The discovery of a high content of H2 in study area not only reveals the organic and inorganic association of natural-gas generation, but also provides a scientific basis for the exploration of deep hydrogen-rich gas. Alunite is used as a representative mineral for indicating deposits in lithocaps, and lithocaps are generally related to the porphyry–(high-sulfidation) epithermal mineralization system. The study of alunite is of theoretical and exploration significance for prospecting potential underlying porphyry and epithermal deposits. Studies on alunite geochemistry have made breakthroughs, but there is little research on alunite mineralogy, for example, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, differential thermal analysis (DTA), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). This study mainly focuses on alunite micromorphological characteristics, weight loss changes with temperature, and ionic group structure, aiming to identify the relationship between these features and indications for prospecting. The Fanshan lithocap is located in the northwest part of the Luzong basin, Anhui province of China, and it can potentially be used for exploring porphyry and epithermal deposits. Fanshan alunite is formed in two stages with three types of alunite. IA alunite is formed in the early hydrothermal stage and replaces felsic minerals in the Zhuanqiao Formation, IB alunite is formed in the later hydrothermal stage and fills in open spaces with bladed particles, and II alunite is the product of pyrite oxidation and reaction with other minerals in the supergene stage. Alunite electron microprobe data and energy-dispersive spectroscopy data further confirm temperature decreases with hydrothermal evolution, and the presence of a high-sulfidation epithermal system in the Luzong basin. Aside from the forming environment, SWIR, and geochemistry of alunite, there are other indication indexes; for example, the larger peak values at 3480 cm−1 and smaller peak values at 1080 cm−1 in FT-IR spectra and the deeper exothermic valleys at 750 °C and steeper weight loss slopes in the DTA curve suggest a favorable formation environment for alunite and provide valuable indications for deposit exploration and assessments of mineralization potential. The Shuangwang Au deposit (with a gold resource of approximately 70 t Au), is located in the Fenxian-Taibai fore-arc basin in the West Qinling Orogen of central China. Igneous intrusions in the region include the Xiba granitic pluton and granite porphyry and lamprophyre dykes. The Xiba pluton is composed of granodiorite and monzonite granite. The granodiorite is typical I-type granite, and it yields a crystallization age of 221.1 ± 1.2 Ma and a two-stage Hf model age of 1432–1634 Ma. The monzonite granite shows a transitional characteristic between I-type and A-type granite, and it yields a crystallization age of 214.8 ± 1.2 Ma and a two-stage Hf model age of 1443–1549 Ma. The granitoid was derived mainly from a crust–mantle mixed source. The ages indicate that the granodiorite and monzonite granite formed during two different stages. The REE distribution patterns of the Xiba granitoid exhibit significant fractionation between LREE and HREE, showing right-dipping curves, with an enrichment of LREE and a deficit of HREE. The granodiorite displays a light negative Eu anomaly, while the monzonite granite displays an obvious negative Eu anomaly. The granite porphyry dikes are distributed in the No. I breccia and Jiupinggou granite porphyry, and they yield crystallization ages of 219.9 ± 1.5 Ma and 213.1 ± 0.89 Ma, respectively, and two-stage Hf model ages of 1382–1501 Ma and 1373–1522 Ma, respectively. The lamprophyre dikes in the deposit yield a crystallization age of 214.4 ± 2.7 Ma. After the collision event between the Yangtze and the North China Plates along the Qinling orogenic belt, at approximately 220 Ma in the Late Triassic, the detachment of the slab produced the upwelling of the asthenosphere material. Under conditions of mantle heat and tectonic stress, widespread partial melting of the subducted continental crust and the upper lithosphere mantle occurred, forming granitoids with various degrees of adakite characteristics. Attention has been increasingly focused on the geochemical behavior of heavy metals in high-salinity estuaries, but how the salinity gradient affects the behavior of heavy metals in low-salinity rivers is not clear. In this paper, the distribution of Cr, Cu, Co, and Ni were assessed according to the proportions in three phases (dissolved, suspended particle, and surface sediment) along the Jiyunhe River in northern China. Dissolved heavy metals had a significantly positive correlation with salinity ( p < 0.01), increasing along a salinity gradient from upstream to the river mouth. Suspended particulate materials were mainly derived from particles like clay rather than algae. With salinity greater than 2‰, suspended heavy metals were released into the water, bringing about an increase in dissolved heavy metal content. High deviations of Cr from conservative mixing behavior occurred downstream of an urban area. In the low-salinity area, heavy metals were mainly released from particles and increased along a salinized and degraded river continuum. The distribution coefficient implied that under a salinity effect, Cr and Cu exhibited higher ecological risk and mobility, whereas Co and Ni seemed to be more conservative in the sediment of the Jiyunhe River.
