Background: SmartAction-VR uses virtual reality to simulate daily life tasks and assess cognitive performance based on the multi-errand paradigm. This study explored whether this new task could provide insights into the executive functioning of children and adolescents with ADHD in their everyday activities. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2021 and December 2022. It consisted of one session and was divided into two parts (cognitive tests; and SmartAction-VR). The sample comprised 76 children and adolescents with a median age (IQR) of 13 (11–14) years and an age range of 9–17 years. Of these participants, 60.50% (n = 46) were males. Out of this sample, 40 participants were in the ADHD group and 36 were in the neurotypical group. The following instruments were used: Waisman Activities of Daily Living Scale, Assessment of Sensory Processing and Executive Functioning, Pediatric Simulator Disease Questionnaire, Digit span subtest, Stroop test, NEPSY-II Subtest of Auditory Attention and Cognitive Flexibility, Trail Making Test, Zoo Map Test, and SmartAction-VR. Results: The ADHD group demonstrated lower accuracy (U = 406, p = 0.010), higher values for total errors (U = 292, p = 0.001), more commissions (U = 417, p = 0.003), new actions (U = 470, p = 0.014), and forgetting actions (U = 406, p = 0.010), as well as fewer perseverations compared to the neurotypical group (U = 540.5, p = 0.029). Additionally, participants who forgot more actions were found to have lower independence in daily life (r = −0.281, p = 0.024). Conclusions: The correlations between the results of SmartAction-VR and activities of daily living, as well as cognitive tests, suggest that this new task could be useful for evaluating executive functioning in daily life. Background: The reported outcomes of pediatric dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) have varied across studies. There are few outcome data concerning DCM in Chinese children. Therefore, we conducted a retrospective study to describe clinical features and determine risk factors for poor outcomes in children with DCM. Methods: We enrolled 121 children with DCM in our hospital from 2003 to 2021. General information and laboratory and echocardiographic data were collected and analyzed. Cox regression analysis was performed to determine risk factors for poor outcomes. Results: This study included 121 patients (69 males and 52 females). The median age at diagnosis was 10.8 years, and the follow-up time was 10.0 months. Eighty-two patients (67.8%) exhibited cardiac function classes III–IV at the time of diagnosis. Tachypnea was the most common symptom (78.5%). In echocardiography, the mean left ventricular end-diastolic dimension z score was 7.36 ± 2.73, and the left ventricular ejection fraction z score was −6.58 ± 2.17. The 1-, 2-, and 5-year survival rates were 51.2%, 43.8%, and 32.2%, respectively. Cox analysis revealed that cardiac function classes III–IV (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.801, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 1.030–3.149, p = 0.039) and calcium levels (HR = 0.219, 95% CI = 0.084–0.576, p = 0.002) were predictors of poor outcomes in children with DCM. Background: The aim of the present study was to develop a clinical–ultrasound model for early detection of hospital admission, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission, and oxygen requirement in children diagnosed with acute bronchiolitis (AB). Furthermore, the prognostic ability of models including sonographic data from antero-lateral, lateral-posterior, and posterior areas (eight zones) vs. antero-lateral and lateral-posterior areas (six zones) vs. only antero-lateral areas (four zones) was analyzed. Methods: A prospective study was conducted on infants under 12 months with AB. A lung ultrasound (LUS) was performed within 24 h of hospital care and analyzed using the Lung Ultrasound Combined Score (LUCS) based on the ultrasound patterns and their extent. Regression models combining LUCS (using eight, six, or four lung areas) with age and clinical scale were created. Results: A total of 90 patients were included (62 admitted to the ward, 15 to PICU), with a median age of 3.7 months. Clinical–ultrasound models with eight and six lung zones predicted hospital admission (AUC 0.89), need for oxygen therapy (AUC 0.88), and its duration (40% explanatory capacity). Models using four lung areas had lower prognostic yield. No model predicted PICU admission needs or duration. Background: One of the main drawbacks of tunneled central venous catheters (CVCs) is catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs). Antibiotic lock therapy (ALT) can be combined with systemic antibiotics to achieve catheter salvage. Our objectives are to describe cases of CRBSI and our experience with ALT in a pediatric oncology–hematology ward. Methods: a retrospective descriptive study of pediatric CRBSI cases in a Spanish oncology–hematology unit from 2007 to 2017 was conducted. We collected demographic, clinical, and microbiological data from all patients. Results: fifty-eight CRBSIs were diagnosed in thirty-nine patients; 72.9% of these patients were male, with a median age of 42.1 months. The main underlying diseases were leukemia/lymphoma (51.7%) and solid tumors (32.7%). Thirty-five (60.3%) CRBSIs were caused by Gram-positive cocci, of which 70.6% were coagulase-negative Staphylococci, and sixteen (27.6%) were caused by Gram-negative bacilli. We treated 41/58 (71%) cases with ALT. A total of 12/17 (71%) CVCs that were not treated with adjunctive ALT were removed, compared with 13/41 (32%) that were treated with ALT (relative risk (RR), 0.449; confidence interval (CI), 95%: 0.259–0.778, p = 0.004). Major reasons to remove the CVC in the CRBSI-ALT group were local insertion/pocket site infection (23%), persistent symptoms (23%), and infectious' relapses (15%). Cyberbullying is a growing problem in the Italian educational sector, with a prevalence of 17%. This study analyzes its impact on the psychosocial well-being and academic performance of Italian adolescents. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 502 students from six schools in different Italian regions, using the European Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (ECIPQ) to assess cyberbullying, in addition to collecting data on satisfaction, friends, and academic performance. Chi-square and ANOVA analyses were conducted to identify significant associations between the variables. Results: The analyses showed significant associations between cyberbullying and gender and in psychosocial well-being, with significant differences in personal satisfaction and body satisfaction. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in academic performance or in the ability to make new friends, although victims showed a significantly lower ability to make new friends compared to those who were neither victims nor aggressors. Conclusions: Cyberbullying has a significant impact on students' psychosocial well-being, especially on personal satisfaction and school happiness, making it essential to implement interventions that promote safe school environments to mitigate these negative effects. Background: Neonatal cerebral stroke includes a range of focal and multifocal ischemic and hemorrhagic brain lesions, occurring in about one of 3000 live births. More than 50% of children with neonatal stroke develop adverse outcomes, mainly unilateral cerebral palsy. Asymmetries in segmental movements at three months have been proven to be an early sign of CP in infants with unilateral brain damage. Recognition of additional early signs could enhance prognostic assessment and enable an early and targeted intervention. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess early signs of CP in infants with arterial cerebral stroke through the General Movements Assessment and the Motor Optimality Score—Revised (MOS-R). Method: Twenty-four infants born at term (12 females and 12 males) diagnosed with ACS, and 24 healthy infants (16 females and 8 males) were assessed. The GMs (fidgety movements) and MOS-R were assessed from videos recorded at 11–14 weeks of post-term age. Cognitive and motor outcomes were assessed at 24 months using the Griffiths III developmental quotient and Amiel-Tison neurological examination. The gross motor function classification system expanded and revised (GMFCS-E&R) was adopted to categorize CP. Results: Among infants with ACS, 21 (87.5%) developed unilateral CP. Most of them showed non-disabling CP (14 had GMFCS-E&R grade 1 [66.6%], 6 grade 2 [28.6%], and 1 grade 5 [4.8%]). Fidgety movements (FMs) were absent in 17 (70.8%), sporadic in 4 (16.7%) infants, and normal in 3 (12.5%). Segmental movement asymmetry was found in 22/24 (91.7%). According to the MOS-R, motor items (kicking, mouth movements), postural patterns (midline centered head, finger posture variability), and movement character (monotonous and stiff) were statistically different among infants with ACS and healthy infants. The MOS-R median global score was lower in the group with ACS compared to the control group (6 vs 26; p < 0.01). FMs, segmental movement asymmetry, and MOS-R global score were significantly correlated with abnormal outcome. MOS-R global scores less than or equal to 13 had 100% specificity and sensitivity in predicting GMFCS-E&R grade ≥ 2 CP in infants with ACS. Conclusions: The rate of CP was high among infants with ACS, but in most cases it showed low GMFCS-E&R grades. The study highlighted a significant correlation between MOS-R, together with absent FMs and unilateral CP in infants with ACS. Moreover, the MOS-R showed high sensitivity and specificity in the prediction of CP. Combined assessment of FMs and MOS-R could help to better identify infants at high risk of developing UCP in a population of infants with ACS. Background/Objectives: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare genetic disease that is responsible for bone fragility, but also for dental malocclusions and dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI). The aim of this study was to assess whether the severity of dental malocclusion influenced the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and exposure to bullying in a paediatric OI population compared with a control group. Methods: Dental and occlusal characteristics were noted during oral and radiographic examination. The severity of malocclusion was assessed using the PAR index. P-CPQ, COHIP(34), and BCS-A questionnaires were used to evaluate, respectively, externally and self-perceived OHRQoL and bullying. Results: We included 39 patients with a mean age of 11.3 (±4.8 SD) in the OI group, and 45 patients with a mean age of 12.3 (±3.2 SD) in the control group. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of occlusal vertical and transverse dimensions. Patients with severe OI, presenting with bone fractures, bones deformities, and short stature, had significantly more anterior (p < 0.05) and posterior openbites (p < 0.05) and more DI (p < 0.05) compared to patients who had moderate or mild OI. Self-perceived OHRQoL was negatively impacted by the disease (p = 0.01), particularly in the domains of oral health (p < 0.05) and self-image (p < 0.001), but not by its severity. Exposure to bullying did not differ significantly between the two groups, although more patients with OI reported being teased (21.4% face to face and 7.1% online vs. 14.6% and 2.4% in the control group). Background/Objectives: Schools can play a key role in promoting health among adolescents, and Hungarian legislation gives them sufficient space to do so. In our study, we examined the impact of a multiyear school health promotion programme on pupils' health behaviour and well-being. Methods: We carried out our investigation in an intervention and a control primary school in Hungary. All 5th and 7th grade pupils were invited to participate in the questionnaire-based survey between 2017 and 2021. The effect of the intervention was quantified using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: Our results show that for those behaviours where pupils' personal choices had a greater influence (unhealthy eating, smoking, screen time), the health promotion programme was more effective. For those behaviours where family background and parental influence were more pronounced (healthy eating, physical activity), the intervention had less impact. Self-perceived health was better in the 7th-grade intervention group. Conclusions: Our findings are in line with the conclusion of systematic reviews that more intensive, longer-term, multi-behavioural school health promotion programmes can be effective in promoting positive behaviour. To be more effective, it would be worth using a well-structured curriculum, well-developed teaching materials, and greater involvement of teachers, parents, and various local organisations. Introduction: The purpose was to study the indicators of physical development of primary-school-aged children with intellectual disability by observing the type of autonomic nervous regulation and their levels of catecholamines and serotonin. Methods: A total of 168 primary school age children were examined, of which 54 had intellectual disability. The autonomic nervous system was assessed using cardiointervalography; anthropometric parameters were applied in accordance with recommendations. The contents of serotonin and catecholamines in blood plasma and lymphocytes were assessed using enzyme immunoassay and luminescent histochemical methods. Results and conclusions: Delayed physical and mental development in children with intellectual disability were associated with low serotonin levels in this group of children. The optimal option for the physical development of children with intellectual disability is a sympathetic type of autonomic nervous regulation, while negative-type vagotonic nervous regulation was associated with the maximum delay in physical development. The hypersympathetic type of nervous regulation was accompanied by minimal changes in physical development, despite the hormonal imbalance in the ratio of catecholamines and serotonin. The level of the neurotransmitter serotonin is a prognostic marker of the physical development of children of primary school age. The total amount of catecholamines and serotonin in blood plasma has a direct relationship with the amount of these neurotransmitters in blood lymphocytes; the more hormones in plasma, the more of them in lymphocytes. Therefore, the determination of the contents of catecholamines and serotonin in lymphocytes can be used as a model for studying neurotransmitters in humans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Single-nucleotide polymorphisms in LIN28B, critical regulators of female growth and puberty, have been linked to age at menarche. Methods: We assessed the association of rs7759938, rs314280, and rs314276 with menarcheal age in girls of Greek descent. We reviewed the records of 248 girls who had their first menstruation before 18 years and who attended the Greek Departments of Pediatric Endocrinology from January 2021 to July 2023. Genotyping was performed by standard DNA-based methods. Association analyses involved both parametric and non-parametric tests. Results: The average age of breast and pubic hair development was 9.95 years, and the age at menarche was 11.55 years. Menarche occurred ≤11 years (mean 10.24 years) in 108 girls (43.5%) and >11 years (mean 12.55 years) in 140 (56.5%). The girls' menarcheal age correlated significantly with that of their mothers (average 12.1 years, p-value < 0.0001, Spearman's r 0.350). The dominant rs7759938(TT) genotype was the most common (55.2%), followed by the dominant rs314276(CC) (53.2%) and dominant rs314280(TT) (14.5%) genotypes. Conclusions: There was no association between age at menarche and any of the polymorphism genotypes/alleles or between genotypes/alleles and birth weight, gestational week, mode of delivery, and maternal age at menarche. Background: Premature children with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) have been reported to an have increased risk of visual and neurocognitive impairments, yet little is known about whether vision could affect specific neurocognition. This study aimed to clarify the correlations between neurocognition and vision in premature children. Materials and Methods: This is a nonrandomized, cross-sectional, observational study in a pediatric cohort with five groups: (1) full-term (n = 25), (2) prematurity without ROP (n = 154), (3) prematurity with ROP but without treatment (n = 39), (4) prematurity with ROP and with bevacizumab (IVB) treatment (n = 62), and (5) prematurity with ROP and with laser/laser + IVB treatment (n = 20). Neurocognitive function was evaluated by the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) around the age of 4 years. Visual acuity (VA) and refractive errors were tested. Correlations between WPPSI parameters and visual outcomes were analyzed across five groups. Results: Among the 300 recruited children (mean age = 4.02 + 0.97 years, male = 56.3%), 297 were assessed by WPPSI-IV and 142 were assessed by vision tests. The Full-Scale Intelligence Quotient (FSIQ) index was worse in the premature groups. After adjusting for covariates, seven items, including FSIQ-Index (p = 0.047), fluid-reasoning index (p = 0.004), FR-percentile ranking (p = 0.008), object assembly (p = 0.034), picture concept (p = 0.034), zoo locations (p = 0.014) and bug search (p = 0.020), showed significant differences between groups. The better the best corrected VA (BCVA), the higher the scores on Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI), VCI-PR, and the subtest of information. Conclusions: Specific cognitive dysfunctions are related to the BCVA in this large cohort. Subtest performance profiles in WPPSI can be affected by prematurity, ROP treatment, and different ROP treatment. FSIQ is generally lower in premature children and even lower in children with ROP. Background This study aimed to compare the survival outcomes of patients with initially unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) who underwent or did not undergo salvage surgery followed by a triple combination conversion treatment consisted of locoregional treatment (LRT), tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), and anti-PD-1 antibodies. Methods The data from 93 consecutive patients with initially unresectable HCC and PVTT across 4 medical centers were retrospectively reviewed. They were converted successfully by the triple combination treatment and underwent or did not undergo salvage resection. The baseline characteristics, conversion schemes, conversion treatment-related adverse events (CTRAEs), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) of the salvage surgery and non-surgery groups were compared. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed to identify independent risk factors for OS and PFS. Additionally, subgroup survival analysis was conducted by stratification of degree of tumor response and type of PVTT. Results Of the 93 patients, 44 underwent salvage surgery, and 49 did not undergo salvage surgery. The OS and PFS of the salvage surgery and non-surgery groups were not significantly different (P  = .370 and.334, respectively). The incidence and severity of CTRAEs of the 2 groups were also comparable. Subgroup analyses revealed that for patients with complete response (CR) or types III-IV PVTT, there was a trend toward better survival in patients who did not undergo salvage surgery. Multivariate analysis showed that baseline α-fetoprotein and best tumor response per mRECIST criteria were independent prognostic factors for OS and PFS. Conclusions For patients with initially unresectable HCC and PVTT who were successfully converted by the triple combination therapy, salvage liver resection may not be necessary, especially for the patients with CR or types III-IV PVTT. Background: Chronic low-grade inflammation may mediate the relationship between obesity and diabetes, yet clinical research in this area remains scarce. Thus, this study aimed to explore the mediating role of chronic low-grade inflammation in this relationship using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Methods: This study involved 2,482 participants enrolled in the NHANES between 2005 and 2016. Based on the complex sampling survey weights of NHANES, logistic regression models were fitted, adjusting for various covariates to investigate the relationship between BMI, INFLA score, and diabetes. Moreover, weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression models were fitted to analyze the proportional contribution of individual components within the INFLA score. Finally, mediation analysis was conducted to quantitatively assess the magnitude of the mediating effect of the INFLA score on the relationship between BMI and diabetes. Results: After adjusting for all potential confounding factors, a significant positive correlation was noted between INFLA score and diabetes [OR (95% CI), 1.038(1.003–1.075), p = 0.035]. Additionally, a significant positive correlation was observed between the high INFLA group and diabetes compared to the low INFLA group [OR (95% CI), 1.599(1.031–2.481), p = 0.037]. WQS regression models revealed that the proportional contributions of C-reactive protein, white blood cell count, platelet count, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were 55.5%, 34.8%, 8.46%, and 1.19%, respectively. Finally, the results of the mediation analysis indicated that the indirect effect of the INFLA score accounted for 10.20%. Background: Deviant behaviors are common during adolescence. Despite the diversity of juvenile delinquency, the patterns of deviant behaviors remain unclear in ethnic minorities. The present study aimed to evaluate the latent heterogeneity of deviant behaviors and associated factors in ethnic minority Yi adolescents. Methods: The present study recruited a large sample of 1931 ethnic minority Yi adolescents (53.4% females, mean age = 14.7 years, SD 1.10) in five secondary schools in 2022 in Sichuan, China. The participants completed measures on 13 deviant behaviors and demographic characteristics, attitudinal self-control, and psychological distress. Sample heterogeneity of deviant behaviors was analyzed via latent class analysis using class as the cluster variable. Results: The data supported three latent classes with measurement invariance by sex. 68.2%, 28.0%, and 3.8% of the sample were in the Normative, Borderline, and Deviant class, with minimal, occasional, and extensive deviant behaviors, respectively. The Deviant class was more prevalent in males (6.5%) than females (1.6%). There were significant class differences in domestic violence, school belonging, self-control, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Males, domestic violence, low school belonging, and impaired self-control significantly predicted higher odds of the Deviant and Borderline classes compared to the normative class. Conclusion: This study provided the first results on three latent classes of deviant behaviors with distinct profiles in ethnic minority adolescents in rural China. These results have practical implications to formulate targeted interventions to improve the psycho-behavioral functioning of the at-risk adolescents in ethnic minorities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To analyze the influencing factors for patellofemoral joint (PFJ) overstuffing following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) without patella resurfacing, and explore the effect of PFJ overstuffing on clinical efficacy. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 168 patients with end-stage knee osteoarthritis who underwent TKA without patella resurfacing at our hospital between Match 2019 and September 2021. The clinical data of these patients were retrospectively analyzed. In this study, PFJ overstuffing was defined as a postoperative PFJ distance greater than 1 mm compared to the preoperative measurement. The occurrence of postoperative PFJ overstuffing was counted. The patients were divided into the overstuffing group (n = 109) and the non-overstuffing group (n = 59) to count the patellar thickness and thickness of femoral anterior condyle in all patients before and after surgery, and analyze the influencing factors for postoperative PFJ overstuffing in such patients. Patients were followed up for 2 years to compare the recovery time of postoperative pain, score of visual analogue scale (VAS) and flexion activity between the two groups. Results: There was no significant difference in patellar thickness between preoperative and postoperative measurements of the patients (P > 0.05). However, the thickness of the femoral anterior condyle and the PFJ distance after surgery increased significantly compared with those before surgery (P < 0.05). Among the 168 patients, 109 cases (64.88%) experienced PFJ overstuffing. The risk of PFJ overstuffing was higher in female patients than in male (P < 0.05). The preoperative thickness of the femoral anterior condyle in the overstuffing group was significantly smaller compared to the non-overstuffing group (P < 0.001). Compared with the non-overstuffing group, the overstuffing group had longer recovery time of postoperative pain (P < 0.05), and had lower flexion activity at 2 years after surgery (P < 0.001). However, no significant difference was found in VAS score between the overstuffing group and the non-overstuffing group at 2 years after surgery (P > 0.05). Spearman rank correlation analysis indicated females tend to have a lower preoperative thickness of the femoral anterior condyle (r=-0.424, P < 0.001), as well as a positive postoperative PFJ overstuffing (r = 0.237, P < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a negative correlation between preoperative thickness of the femoral anterior condyle and postoperative PFJ overstuffing (r=-0.540, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Following TKA without patella resurfacing, there is a high risk of PFJ overstuffing, particularly among female patients and those with a small thickness of the femoral anterior condyle. Background: The nursing shortage is driven, in part, by the critical shortage of nursing faculty. Consequently, qualified potential nursing students are being turned away from nursing schools each year. The preeminent issue influencing the United States nurse faculty workforce shortage is salary; financial compensation is higher in clinical and private-sector settings than educational settings. The purpose of this study is to describe current full-time nurse faculty salary, sources of income, and perceived need for more income, as well as the feasibility and acceptability of research focused on full-time nurse faculty salaries, so to guide future nursing faculty workforce research. Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, full-time nursing faculty working in a Midwestern state in the United States completed a survey inclusive of fixed choice and free text response options focused on income (individual gross, faculty, and secondary), demographics, and feasibility/acceptability of the survey instrument. Descriptive statistics were used to describe salary, sources of income, and perceived need for additional income. Feasibility and acceptability were evaluated by descriptive statistics examining three feasibility and acceptability questions, and by comparing demographic differences between participants who answered income questions compared to those who did not using t tests, x2 tests, and Wilcoxon signed rank tests. Results: One hundred and eighty-three full-time nurse faculty completed the survey in six weeks, representing 27% of the full-time nurse faculty workforce in the state. Over half of participants, 57%, reported having another job(s) in addition to their full-time faculty position to support basic living expenses. Most respondents reported willingness to share financial/salary data and viewed the survey to be acceptable. Conclusions: Research focused on nursing faculty salaries was feasible and acceptable to those who chose to participate in the study. Perceived income needs may be an important factor driving career decisions for nursing faculty. Future research should focus on delineating how salary influences the decision to enter or stay in the nursing faculty workforce. Background: The aims of the present study were to investigate the incidence of nurses who suffered anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic and to explore how expressive suppression influences the relationship between family function and anxiety. Methods: This study used cross-sectional research and simple random sampling. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed and 254 questionnaires were qualified after invalid questionnaires were proposed, thus a total of 254 female nurses from a tertiary hospital were included in this study. The measurement included General demographic questionnaires, the Self-Scale Anxiety, Scale (SAS), Emotion Regulation Strategies Questionnaire (ERQ), and Family Function Assessment (FAD). T-test, nonparametric Wilcoxon or Kruskal-Wallis test, χ2 test, Pearson or Spearman correlation analysis, multiple stepwise regression and bootstrap methods was performed to analyze the data. Results: In this study, 22.4% of the nurses exhibited anxiety symptoms, with 17.7% eliciting mild anxiety symptoms, 4.3% showing moderate anxiety symptoms and 0.4% with severe anxiety symptoms. Family function and expressive suppression were positively associated with anxiety severity. And family function influenced anxiety among nurses via direct and indirect (Expressive suppression -mediated) pathways. Conclusions: Expressive suppression partially mediated the influence of family function on anxiety symptom. To this end, nurse administrators should establish a robust mental health support system encompassing psychological counseling and emotional support groups. Furthermore, nurse administrators should consistently inquire about nurses' family situations, encourage nurses to articulate their emotions and needs candidly, both within the domestic sphere and the workplace, while refraining from excessive self-repression. Background: Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) for ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) or ventilated hospital-acquired pneumonia (vHAP) in extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) carriers is challenging. BioFire® FilmArray® Pneumonia plus Panel (mPCR) can detect bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes, including blaCTX-M, the most common ESBL-encoding gene. Methods: This monocentric, prospective study was conducted on a group of ESBL-E carriers from March 2020 to August 2022. The primary objective was to evaluate the concordance between the results of mPCR and conventional culture performed on respiratory samples of ESBL-E carriers to investigate suspected VAP/vHAP. The secondary objective was to appraise the impact of performing or not mPCR on initial antibiotic therapy adequacy in ESBL-E carriers with confirmed VAP/vHAP. Results: Over the study period, 294 patients with ESBL-E carriage were admitted to the ICU, of who 168 (57%) were mechanically ventilated. (i) Diagnostic performance of mPCR was evaluated in suspected 41 episodes of VAP/vHAP: blaCTX-M gene was detected in 15/41 (37%) episodes, where 9/15 (60%) were confirmed ESBL-E-induced pneumonia. The culture and blaCTX-M were concordant in 35/41 (85%) episodes, and in all episodes where blaCTX-M was negative (n = 26), the culture never detected ESBL-E. (ii) The impact of mPCR on initial antibiotic therapy adequacy was assessed in 95 episodes of confirmed VAP/vHAP (22 episodes were tested with mPCR and 73 without); 47 (49%) episodes were ESBL-E-induced, and 24 (25%) were carbapenem-resistant bacteria-induced. The use of mPCR was significantly associated with higher prescription of adequate empirical antibiotic therapy in the multivariable logistic regression (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) (95% CI) of 7.5 (2.1–35.9), p = 0.004), propensity-weighting (aOR of 5.9 (1.6–22.1), p = 0.008), and matching-cohort models (aOR of 5.8 (1.5–22.1), p = 0.01). Conclusion: mPCR blaCTX-M showed an excellent diagnostic value to rule out the diagnosis of ESBL-E related pneumonia in ESBL-E carriers with suspected VAP/vHAP. In addition, in patients with confirmed VAP/vHAP, a mPCR-based antibiotic therapy was associated with an increased prescription of adequate empirical antibiotic therapy. Performing mPCR on respiratory samples seems to be a promising tool in ESBL-E carriers with suspected vHAP/VAP. However, if mPCR is used in very low pre-test clinical probability of pneumonia, due to the high sensitivity and the rate of overdiagnosed pneumonia, the risk of overconsumption of carbapenem may prevail. Background: Post-operative sore throat is the common complaint and uncomfortable side effect in patients receiving general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation. Drugs with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, like steroids and local anesthetics, are the best options for postoperative sore throat prophylaxis. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the effects of intravenous lidocaine and dexamethasone in reducing postoperative sore throat following endotracheal extubation at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from January 1 to March 30, 2023 G.C. Methods: A prospective cohort study was carried out at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital. Data from 50 patients in the lidocaine (1.5 mg/kg), 50 in the dexamethasone (8 mg), and 49 in the control groups were analyzed. The data were collected using observation based on structured questionnaires. A systematic random sampling technique was applied to select respondents. The data were entered into EpiData version 4.6.0.6 and transferred to STATA version 17 statistical software for analysis. A comparison of continuous data among the groups were performed using a one-way ANOVA test for parametric data. The Kruskal–Wallis rank test was used for non-parametric data. Associations between variables were tested using chi-squared test, Fisher's exact test, and binary logistic regression. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression was used to determine degree of association. Results: The incidence of POST was 40%, 32%, and 57.1% in the lidocaine, dexamethasone, and control groups, respectively (P =.0356). Dexamethasone reduced the incidence of POST during the first 24 h (AOR: 0.374, 95% CI: 0.149–0.939). However, no difference was observed in the severity of POST at 3 h (p = 0.130), 6 h (p = 0.096), 12 h (p = 0.313), and 24 h (p = 0.525) of the post-extubation period among the three groups. IV lidocaine did not effectively reduce the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat at different time intervals. Conclusion and recommendation: Intravenous dexamethasone is more effective than intravenous lidocaine in reducing the incidence of postoperative sore throat among the groups. Background: Inhibition of 5-HT3 (5-Hydroxyl Tryptamine) receptors is known to enhance morphine analgesia in animal models. We tested the efficacy of azasetron, a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, on postoperative chronic pain after pulmonary surgery in a randomized triple-blind controlled study. Methods: A total of 250 patients who were scheduled to receive pulmonary surgery were randomized to patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) using 200 µg sufentanil with normal saline or 200 µg sufentanil with 20 mg azasetron. The numerical rating scale of pain (NRS) was recorded at baseline, postoperative day (POD) 1, 2, 3, 90, and 180. Negative binomial regression was used to identify associated factors for postoperative NRS six months after surgery. Results: The results showed that azasetron did not affect the primary outcomes: the incidence of postoperative chronic pain on POD90 and 180. However, azasetron decreased postoperative NRS at rest and activity on POD1, 2, and 3. Furthermore, azasetron decreased postoperative nausea and vomiting on POD1 and 2. Univariate and multivariate negative binomial regression analysis identified preoperative pain, smoking, drinking and open surgery are risk factors of chronic pain six months after surgery. Conclusions: Azasetron did not affect the incidence of chronic pain after pulmonary surgery. The presence of preoperative pain, smoking, drinking, and open surgery were found to be associated with chronic pain six months after surgery. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) as a multifactorial disorder is associated with non-communicable diseases. The dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet is a healthy dietary pattern. We investigated the effect of the DASH diet on fatty liver and cardiovascular risk factors in subjects with MetS. Methods: 60 Subjects with MetS were assigned into the intervention group (DASH diet) or the control group (a healthy diet). Fatty liver index (FLI), hepatic steatosis index (HSI), waist circumference (WC), weight, body mass index (BMI), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) were evaluated at the beginning and after intervention. Equations of fatty liver indices such as FLI and HSI are based on liver enzymes, anthropometric variables, sex and having diabetes. Results: 30 subjects in the intervention group and 29 subjects in the control group completed the study. We found a significant reduction in the intervention group compared to the control group in FLI (-13.06 ± 10.03 vs. -2.90 ± 6.82;P < 0.001), HSI (-2.72 ± 2.59 vs. -0.81 ± 3.80;P = 0.02), WC (-6.02 ± 4.24 vs. -2.24 ± 4.28;P = 0.001), weight (-3.39 ± 2.53 vs. -1.51 ± 2.72;P = 0.008), BMI (-1.25 ± 0.93 vs. -0.56 ± 1.01;P = 0.008), DBP (-5.16 ± 3.92 vs. -1.50 ± 7.04;P = 0.01), SBP (-6.97 ± 8.21 vs. -1.36 ± 6.83;P = 0.006), TG (-18.50 ± 14.32 vs. 0.60 ± 23.81;P < 0.001), TC (-16.10 ± 17.94 vs. -5.07 ± 23.62;P = 0.04) and LDL-c (-13.50 ± 9.58 vs. -4.90 ± 18.28;P = 0.02). These results remained significant after adjusting for confounding factors, except for TC (P = 0.25). Conclusions: The DASH diet was more effective than the control diet in managing fatty liver and cardiovascular risk factors. Background: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) often leads to the collapse of the femoral head, ultimately resulting in patients undergoing premature total hip arthroplasty (THA). The surgical hip dislocation (SHD) technique is a type of hip-preserving surgery aimed at delaying or avoiding THA. This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of SHD techniques through femoral head fovea fenestration and impaction bone grafting for the treatment of non-traumatic ONFH. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 39 patients (39 hips) with non-traumatic ONFH who underwent SHD for treatment from 2016 to 2017. The Harris hip score (HHS) and the minimum clinically important difference (MCID) are used to evaluate clinical outcomes, while radiographic evaluations are conducted using X-rays. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis defined clinical failure as further THA, and conducted univariate survival analysis and Cox regression analysis. Any complications were recorded. Results: All patients were followed up for 24–72 months, with an average of (60 ± 13.0) months. At the last follow-up, based on the HHS, 25 patients (64.1%) reported excellent and good clinical outcomes. 29 patients (74.3%) achieved MCID. Imaging evaluation of the postoperative femoral head status showed that 6 cases improved, 20 cases remained stable, and 13 cases showed progressed. Out of 39 hips, 12 hips had postoperative clinical failure, resulting in a clinical success rate of 69.2%. Association Research Circulation Osseous (ARCO) stage, China-Japan Friendship Hospital (CJFH) classification, and postoperative crutch-bearing time are risk factors for clinical failure. Postoperative crutch-bearing time of less than 3 months is an independent risk factor for clinical failure. After surgery, there was one case of sciatic nerve injury and one case of heterotopic ossification. There were no infections or non-union of the greater trochanter osteotomy. Conclusion: The SHD technique through the femoral head fovea fenestration and impaction bone grafting provides a safe and effective method for treating non-traumatic ONFH, with good mid-term clinical outcomes. ARCO staging, CJFH classification, and postoperative crutch-bearing time are risk factors that affect clinical outcomes after surgery and lead to further THA. Purpose: The aim of our study is to provide insights derived from experience at multiple centers regarding the outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for large vessel occlusion (LVO) in COVID-19 patients and compare them with those in non-COVID-19 patients during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Results: COVID‐19 positive patients were younger than COVID‐19 negative patients (62.1 ± 2.69 versus 69.5 ± 2.2, P < 0.001). There was a significant difference between COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 groups in the median D-dimer levels (6 vs. 4.5; P < 0.001), median ESR levels (63 vs. 38; P < 0.001) and median CRP levels (110 vs. 48.5; P < 0.001), respectively. Median time from stroke symptoms onset to hospital admission was significantly higher among COVID-19 positive patients (366 vs. 155 min; P < 0.001). COVID‐19 positive patients with LVO presented with a higher median NIH Stroke Scale score at presentation (16 versus 8, P < 0.001) and lower median Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) on admission (6 versus 8, P < 0.001). Patients with COVID-19 had significantly higher percentages of poor functional outcomes as scored using the mRS grades 3–5 in comparison to non-COVID-19 patients (69.2% vs. 13.6%; P = 0.002), but there was no significant difference between both groups in complications such as early cerebral re-occlusion, intracerebral hemorrhage, or in-hospital mortality (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Mechanical thrombectomy has effectively managed patients with LVO stroke. LVO stroke in COVID-19 patients occur at a young age, and have multi-territory vascular involvement. Background: Growing interest has motivated recent studies to examine differences in recovery after sport-related concussion (SRC) by sex. However, heterogeneity in study design, participants, and recovery outcomes has led to mixed findings. Further work is needed to evaluate potential differences by sex and to investigate the role of related characteristics, such as sport contact-level, in recovery timelines. This study aimed to investigate whether concussion recovery trajectories differ by sex, considering a priori clinical and demographic covariates, and accounting for the sequence of recovery outcomes. Our secondary question was whether sport contact-level modifies the relationship between sex and time to outcomes. Using data from the Ivy League–Big Ten Epidemiology of Concussion Study, we included SRCs reported across five academic years; 2015–2020 (February 2020). We used Cox proportional hazards regressions to estimate associations between sex and time from injury to three outcomes: (1) symptom resolution, (2) return to academics, (3) return to full play, accounting for measured confounders. Results: Among 1160 SRCs (male, n = 667; female, n = 493) with complete data, median age overall was 20 years (25th-75th percentiles:19–21), and most occurred among athletes playing high-contact sports (78.0%). Males were slightly more likely to complete symptom resolution over time compared to females (HR = 1.18, 95%CI = 1.05–1.33), but results were attenuated in fully adjusted models (HR 1.13, 95%CI = 0.99–1.29). Similarly, the HR of full academic return for males compared to females was 1.22 (95%CI = 1.07–1.38), but was attenuated in fully adjusted models (HR = 1.11, 95%CI = 0.97–1.28). The HR of full return to play for males compared to females was 1.14 (95%CI = 1.02–1.28), and was attenuated after adjustment (HR = 1.06, 95%CI = 0.93–1.20) as well. The interaction between sex and playing a high/low-contact sport was not statistically significant across models, though differences were apparent. Conclusions: Among a cohort of collegiate athletes with SRC, recovery timelines appeared similar between male and female athletes, adjusting for measured confounders. Differences by sex, considering sport contact-level, were evident and may be important clinically and in future studies. This study used robust methods, accounting for nesting in the sequence of RTP outcomes. Results inform concussion management protocols and planned qualitative work to further elucidate how collegiate athletes experience concussion recovery. We found that having longer time to symptom resolution, and also the sequence of having academic return before symptoms resolve and longer time to academic return were confounders in the relationship between sex and RTP timelines. Further differences by sex were evident when considering contact-level, and may be important to consider clinically and in future research. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasing in China, with medication non-adherence being a significant contributor to uncontrolled T2DM. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) has shown effectiveness in chronic disease management, but few studies have applied it in online interventions for T2DM medication adherence. Aim: The study aimed to develop and investigate the effects of a TTM-based online health education program on promoting positive stage of change (SOC) movement, improving self-efficacy and medication adherence, as well as reducing HbA1c levels in newly diagnosed patients with T2DM. Methods: This sequential mixed-method study was conducted from April 2023 to March 2024. Using the TTM framework, the study initially explored 32 participants' experiences with hypoglycemic medications, health information acquisition, and perspectives on online programs. Then, a quasi-experimental study design was conducted. Two communities were randomly assigned as the intervention (n = 91) and comparison (n = 98) groups, with 189 newly diagnosed middle-aged T2DM patients from various SOC. The intervention group received short videos health education and participated in WeChat group discussions, compared with usual care in the comparison group. Data were collected at baseline, 3-month, and 6-month follow-ups. Results: The intervention group was more likely to achieve positive SOC movement (P <.001, Adj OR = 13.69 95% CI = 6.76-27.71) compared to the comparison group. The intervention group also had significantly higher mean CDMSS-11 and MMAS-8 scores at 6 months (P =.03 and <.001, respectively) and more likely to achieve clinically significant glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) change at 3 months (P <.001, Adj OR = 3.91, 95% CI = 1.77-8.63) and at 6 months (P <.001, Adj OR = 5.62, 95% CI = 2.70-11.69) compared to the comparison group. Conclusion: These findings support that applying the TTM to develop an online program could promote behavior change, improve self-efficacy and medication adherence, and could lead to better glycemic control in newly diagnosed T2DM patients. Background: The maternal mortality rate in the United States is high and disparities among non-Hispanic White and non-Hispanic Black women remain. In the State of Georgia, the pregnancy-related death rate is among the worst in the nation. Objective: To examine current pregnancy-related deaths in the State of Georgia using measures of timing and cause-specific mortality across maternal sociodemographic characteristics. Design: This cross-sectional study of pregnancy-related deaths in Georgia was based on 2016–2019 maternal mortality data obtained from the Georgia Department of Public Health. Methods: Our study analysis involved complete-case data of maternal deaths identified as pregnancy-related deaths (n = 129). Statistical analyses included two distinct population-level measures: (a) timing (i.e. during pregnancy, 0 to 60 days, 61 to 180 days, and 181 to 365 days postpartum) and (b) cause-specific deaths patterned by sociodemographic groups of women and by rural and urban county of residence. Categorical variables were compared using the Chi square or Fisher's exact test and presented as numbers and percentages. A post hoc power analysis was conducted to inform whether there was sufficient power to detect statistically significant effects given available sample sizes. Results: Among a total of 129 pregnancy-related deaths, 30 (23.3%) deaths occurred during pregnancy and 63 (48.8%) deaths occurred within the first 60 days postpartum. Pregnancy-related deaths were disproportionally common among non-Hispanic Black, 25 to 34 years old, and poorly educated women. Three leading underlying causes, cardiomyopathy (22.7%), hemorrhage (21.6%), and cardiovascular or coronary disease (20.4%), accounted for about 65% of all pregnancy-related deaths. Mental health conditions were common causes of death among non-Hispanic White women during pregnancy and in late postpartum. Conclusion: Continued monitoring, collecting and analyzing reliable data will help identify root causes and find ways to eliminate the disproportionate burden of pregnancy-related deaths in the State of Georgia. Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the world's major public health problems. There are few published data on 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) concentrations and DM, and these studies showed different results. Objectives: The current study aimed to compare 25[OH]D concentrations between patients with type 2 DM (T2DM) and healthy controls in eastern Sudan. Methods: A case–control study of two groups matched for age and gender (88 in each group) was conducted in eastern Sudan from March to May 2022. The cases were patients with T2DM, and the controls were healthy participants. Sociodemographic data were collected, and serum 25(OH)D levels were assessed. A univariate analysis was performed. Results: Of the total 176, 82 (47%) were males, and 94 (53%) were females; the median (interquartile range [IQR]) of age, body mass index (BMI), and 25(OH)D concentration were 55 (50–61) years, 27 (23–31) kg/m2, and 13 (10–19) ng/mL, respectively. Of the 176, 137 (78%) were vitamin D deficiency cases. Compared with the controls, age, gender, educational level, marital status, or BMI were not different in the circumstances. Moreover, the median (IQR) for serum 25(OH)D concentrations showed no difference between patients with T2DM and the healthy controls (12 [10–18] ng/mL vs. 13 [10–20] ng/mL). The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (25(OH)D level < 20 ng/mL) was not different between patients with T2DM and the healthy controls (66/88 [75%] vs. 71/88 [81%]). There was no association in the serum 25(OH)D levels between diabetic and nondiabetic participants (OR = 1.01, 95% CI 0.97–1.06) or in vitamin D deficiency between diabetic and nondiabetic participants (OR = 0.72, 95% CI 0.35–1.47). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in 25(OH)D levels between diabetic and nondiabetic participants in this study. Objective: Türkiye is the leading country that has been applying the MPOWER criteria of the World Health Organization for years. However, the prevalence of smoking among nurses appears to be high, according to the literature. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence, addiction levels, and dynamics of tobacco smoking among nurses in Türkiye. Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, a questionnaire (prepared in cooperation with the "World Health Organization") and the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence were administered to 529 nurses working at a tertiary-care university hospital in 2020. Logistic regression was performed to determine factors predicting smoking. Results: The prevalence of smoking among nurses was 32.7% (n = 173). The mean Fagerström test score indicated a "low dependence" level (score: 3 ± 2.6). Both results were higher for males. A relationship was found between trying smoking cigarette and hookah. Of the "current smokers" group, 102 (60.4%) stated that they wanted to quit smoking. Only 21 (27.6%) of the nurses who have tried to quit smoking thus far have received professional help. Conclusion: The prevalence of smoking among nurses working at a tertiary-care university hospital was relatively low compared to that among nurses in Türkiye. While females are normally expected to smoke less, the high prevalence of smoking among nurses (most of them female) raises the question of the professional basis of this situation. However, the low rate of receiving professional help reveals the lack of promotion and accessibility of smoking cessation outpatient clinics in the faculty environment. Background: Female sex workers (FSW) are particularly vulnerable to unintended pregnancy. Research examining the experience of unintended pregnancy due to commercial sex among Chinese FSW, however, is limited. This study aimed to examine the prevalence and correlates of unintended pregnancy due to commercial sex among FSW in China. Methods: In 2021, a cross-sectional study was conducted among 1257 FSW in five cities from Guangdong provinces in South China. Data were collected on social-demographic characteristics, sexual behaviors, experience of unintended pregnancy due to commercial sex and its pregnancy outcome, as well as experience of abortion in lifetime. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to identify factors associated with unintended pregnancy. Results: Among the 1257 FSW, 19.3% reported having at least one unintended pregnancy due to commercial sex. Of those, 96.7% chose to terminate the pregnancy through induced abortion, and 40.5% reported undergoing multiple induced abortions in their lifetime. Multivariable logistic regression indicated that FSW working in current location over one year (adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR): 2.82, 95% CI 1.71–4.64) and having more than seven clients in the past week (aOR: 4.53, 95% CI 2.74–7.51) were more likely to have had unintended pregnancy due to commercial sex. Working in high tier (aOR: 0.21, 95% CI 0.14–0.30) and consistent condom use with clients in the past month (aOR: 0.16, 95% CI 0.10–0.23) were associated with a lower proportion of FSW having ever had unintended pregnancy. Conclusions: Unintended pregnancy are prevalent among FSW in South China. Interventions aimed at reducing the prevalence of unintended pregnancy and enhancing post-abortion care could be necessary among Chinese FSW. Research on the experience of unintended pregnancy resulting from commercial sex among Chinese FSW is, however, limited. To address this knowledge gap, we investigated the prevalence and correlates of unintended pregnancies due to commercial sex among FSW in China. We conducted a cross-sectional study among 1257 FSW in five cities across Guangdong Province in South China in 2021. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with unintended pregnancy. Among 1257 FSW, 19.3% reported having experienced at least one unintended pregnancy due to commercial sex. The factors significantly associated with unintended pregnancy in the multivariate analysis included participants working in high tier, working in current location over one year, using condom with clients inconsistently in the past month, and having more clients in the past week. Background: Missed or delayed child healthcare caused by the COVID-19 lockdown has threatened young children's health and has had an unpredictable influence on caregivers' child healthcare preferences. This study investigated caregivers' child healthcare preferences and the factors that influence them among families with young children (0–3 years) during the lockdown in Shanghai. Methods: Participants in this cross-sectional study were enrolled through random encounter sampling. Questionnaires were distributed online from June 1 to November 10, 2022, in Shanghai. A total of 477 valid questionnaires were received. The demographics of caregivers and their families, children's characteristics, COVID-19-related information, and caregivers' healthcare preferences were analyzed. The statistical analyses included frequency and percentage, chi-square tests, and multinomial logistic regression. Results: Caregivers preferred child healthcare professionals in the community health service system (CHS; 47.6%) followed by hospital pediatricians (40.0%) during lockdown. Caregivers with the following characteristics preferred CHS: those with an annual household income of CNY 200,000–300,000, those whose youngest children were aged 8–12 months, and those who experienced early childhood physical development issues. Caregivers preferred hospitals if they had experienced healthcare-seeking-related difficulties in accessing professional guidance from hospital pediatricians. Conclusions: During pandemic lockdowns, policymakers should allocate more resources to CHS to meet caregivers' childcare demands. Moreover, special attention should be given to the healthcare needs for CHS among families with specific demographics. Objective: To investigate the relationship between central venous pressure (CVP) and acute right ventricular (RV) dysfunction in critically ill patients on mechanical ventilation. Methods: This retrospective study enrolled mechanically ventilated critically ill who underwent transthoracic echocardiographic examination and CVP monitoring. Echocardiographic indices including tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), fractional area change (FAC), and tricuspid lateral annular systolic velocity wave (S') were collected to assess RV function. Patients were then classified into three groups based on their RV function and presence of systemic venous congestion as assessed by inferior vena cava diameter (IVCD) and hepatic vein (HV) Doppler: normal RV function (TAPSE ≥ 17 mm, FAC ≥ 35% and S' ≥9.5 cm/sec), isolated RV dysfunction (TAPSE < 17 mm or FAC < 35% or S' <9.5 cm/sec with IVCD ≤ 20 mm or HV S ≥ D), and RV dysfunction with congestion (TAPSE < 17 mm or FAC < 35% or S' <9.5 cm/sec with IVCD > 20 mm and HV S < D). Results: A total of 518 patients were enrolled in the study, of whom 301 were categorized in normal RV function group, 164 in isolated RV dysfunction group and 53 in RV dysfunction with congestion group. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed a good discriminative ability of CVP for identifying patients with RV dysfunction and congestion(AUC 0.839; 95% CI: 0.795–0.883; p < 0.001). The optimal CVP cutoff was 10 mm Hg, with sensitivity of 79.2%, specificity of 69.4%, negative predictive value of 96.7%, and positive predictive value of 22.8%. A large gray zone existed between 9 mm Hg and 12 mm Hg, encompassing 95 patients (18.3%). For identifying all patients with RV dysfunction, CVP demonstrated a lower discriminative ability (AUC 0.616; 95% CI: 0.567–0.665; p < 0.001). Additionally, the gray zone was even larger, ranging from 5 mm Hg to 12 mm Hg, and included 349 patients (67.4%). Conclusions: CVP may be a helpful indicator of acute RV dysfunction patients with systemic venous congestion in mechanically ventilated critically ill, but its accuracy is limited. Emergency medical services (EMSs) face critical situations that require patient risk classification based on analytical and vital signs. We aimed to establish clustering-derived phenotypes based on prehospital analytical and vital signs that allow risk stratification. This was a prospective, multicenter, EMS-delivered, ambulance-based cohort study considering six advanced life support units, 38 basic life support units, and four tertiary hospitals in Spain. Adults with unselected acute diseases managed by the EMS and evacuated with discharge priority to emergency departments were considered between January 1, 2020, and June 30, 2023. Prehospital point-of-care testing and on-scene vital signs were used for the unsupervised machine learning method (clustering) to determine the phenotypes. Then phenotypes were compared with the primary outcome (cumulative mortality (all-cause) at 2, 7, and 30 days). A total of 7909 patients were included. The median (IQR) age was 64 (51–80) years, 41% were women, and 26% were living in rural areas. Three clusters were identified: alpha 16.2% (1281 patients), beta 28.8% (2279), and gamma 55% (4349). The mortality rates for alpha, beta and gamma at 2 days were 18.6%, 4.1%, and 0.8%, respectively; at 7 days, were 24.7%, 6.2%, and 1.7%; and at 30 days, were 33%, 10.2%, and 3.2%, respectively. Based on standard vital signs and blood test biomarkers in the prehospital scenario, three clusters were identified: alpha (high-risk), beta and gamma (medium- and low-risk, respectively). Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is associated with increases in morbidity and mortality worldwide. The mechanisms of how SARS-CoV-2 may cause cardiovascular (CV) complications are under investigation. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on CV risk. Methods: These are single-centre Bialystok PLUS (Poland) population-based and case‒control studies. The survey was conducted between 2018 and 2022 on a sample of residents (n = 1507) of a large city in central Europe and patients 6–9 months post-COVID-19 infection (n = 126). The Systematic Coronary Risk Estimation 2 (SCORE2), the Systematic Coronary Risk Estimation 2-Older Persons (SCORE2-OP), the Cardiovascular Disease Framingham Heart Study and the LIFEtime-perspective model for individualizing CardioVascular Disease prevention strategies in apparently healthy people (LIFE-CVD) were used. Subsequently, the study populations were divided into CV risk classes according to the 2021 ESC Guidelines on cardiovascular disease prevention in clinical practice. Results: The study population consisted of 4 groups: a general population examined before (I, n = 691) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (II, n = 816); a group of 126 patients post-COVID-19 infection (III); and a control group matched subjects chosen from the pre-COVID-19 pandemic (IV). Group II was characterized by lower blood pressure, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) values than group I. Group III differed from the control group in terms of lower LDL-c level. There was no effect on CV risk in the general population, but in the population post-COVID-19 infection, CV risk was lower using FS-lipids, FS-BMI and LIFE-CVD 10-year risk scores compared to the prepandemic population. In all subgroups analysed, no statistically significant difference was found in the frequency of CV risk classes. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic did not increase the CV risk calculated for primary prevention. Instead, it prompted people to pay attention to their health status, as evidenced by better control of some CV risk factors. Background: Having no or few confidants is found to be associated with more severe mental health problems and a higher prevalence of depression in adults, but research examining this association in adolescents is scarce. Social relationships may be particularly critical during adolescence, as it is an important developmental period during which vulnerability to mental health problems increases. The present study examined the relationship between having no or few confidants and anxiety/depressive symptoms in adolescents. Methods: Cross-sectional self-report survey targeting 7–12th grade students (age range: 12–18) was conducted in public junior and senior high schools in Mie and Kochi, Japan. Data from 17,829 students (49.7% boys) were analyzed. Associations between anxiety/depressive symptoms (12-item General Health Questionnaire; score range: 0–12) and the number of confidants (None, 1–3, or ≥ 4) were examined using multilevel regression analyses. The analyses were stratified by gender and school level (junior/senior high), and adjusted for experiences of being physically abused and bullied and the interactions of these experiences with the number of confidants. Results: Having no or 1–3 confidants was associated with more anxiety/depressive symptoms, compared to having ≥ 4 confidants (p < 0.001) in all stratified groups. Having no confidants was associated with more anxiety/depressive symptoms than having 1–3 confidants (p < 0.001); in senior high boys, no difference was observed between having no confidants and having 1–3 confidants. In addition, in senior high boys, victims of bullying who have confidants reported significantly less anxiety/depressive symptoms than the victims who have no confidants (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Adolescents who had no or few confidants had more anxiety/depressive symptoms. Background: Drawing on prospective data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), our goal was to construct and validate a 5-year survival prediction model for individuals with cognitive impairment (CI). Methods: This study entailed a prospective cohort design utilizing information from the 2011-2014 NHANES dataset, encompassing individuals aged 40 years or older, with updated mortality status as of December 31, 2019. Predictive models within the derivation and validation cohorts were assessed using logistic proportional risk regression, column-line plots, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) binomial regression models. Results: The study enrolled a total of 1,439 participants (677 men, mean age 69.75 ± 6.71 years), with the derivation and validation cohorts consisting of 1,007 (538 men) and 432 (239 men) individuals, respectively. The 5-year mortality rate stood at 16.12% (n = 232). We devised a 5-item column-line graphical model incorporating age, race, stroke, cardiovascular disease (CVD), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). The model exhibited an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.772 with satisfactory calibration. Internal validation demonstrated that the column-line graph model displayed strong discrimination, yielding an AUC of 0.733, and exhibited good calibration. Conclusion: To sum up, our study successfully developed and internally validated a 5-item nomogram integrating age, race, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and blood urea nitrogen. This nomogram exhibited robust predictive performance for 5-year mortality in individuals with CI, offering a valuable tool for prognostic evaluation and personalized care planning. Background and objectives: To develop a nomogram for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in patients with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) undergoing physical examinations in China. Methods: We enrolled 370 patients undergoing physical examinations at the Medical Center of the First Hospital of Jilin University, Jilin Province, China, from October 2022 to March 2023. Of the participants, 256 were placed in the SCD group, and 74 were placed in the MCI group. The population was randomly divided into a training set and a validation set at a 7:3 ratio. A least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model was applied to optimize feature selection for the model. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was applied to construct a predictive model. The performance and clinical utility of the nomogram were determined using Harrell's concordance index, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Cognitive reserve (CR), age, and a family history of hypertension were associated with the occurrence of MCI. The predictive nomogram showed satisfactory performance, with a concordance index of 0.755 (95% CI: 0.681-0.830) in internal verification. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test results suggested that the model exhibited good fit (p = 0.824). In addition, DCA demonstrated that the predictive nomogram had a good clinical net benefit. Discussion: We developed a simple nomogram that could help secondary preventive health care workers to identify elderly individuals with SCD at high risk of MCI during physical examinations to enable early intervention. Background: Mental health problems, such as depression, have a high prevalence in young people. However, the majority of youths suffering from depression do not seek professional help. This study aimed to compare help-seeking behavior, intentions and perceived barriers between youthswith different levels of depressive symptoms. Methods: This cross-sectional study is part of a large-scale, multi-center project. Participants were n = 9509 youths who were recruited in German schools and completed a baseline screening questionnaire. Based on their depressive symptoms, youths were allocated to the following three subgroups: (a) without depressive symptoms, (b) with subclinical symptoms, (c) with clinical symptoms (measured by PHQ-A). Quantitative analyses compared previous help-seeking behavior, help-seeking intentions and perceived barriers (Barriers questionnaire) between these subgroups. An additional exploratory qualitative content analysis examined text answers on other perceived barriers to help-seeking. Results: Participants were mostly female (n = 5575, 58.6%) and 12 to 24 years old (M = 15.09, SD 2.37). Participants with different levels of depressive symptoms differed significantly in help-seeking behavior, intentions and perceived barriers. Specifically, participants with clinical depressive symptoms reported more previous help-seeking, but lower intentions to seek help compared to participants without symptoms (all p < 0.05). Participants with subclinical depressive symptoms reported a similar frequency of previous help-seeking, but higher intentions to seek help compared to participants without symptoms (all p < 0.05). Perception of barriers was different across subgroups: participants with clinical and subclinical depressive symptoms perceived the majority of barriers such as stigma, difficulties in accessibility, and family-related barriers as more relevant than participants without depressive symptoms. Across all subgroups, participants frequently mentioned intrapersonal reasons, a high need for autonomy, and a lack of mental health literacy as barriers to help-seeking. Conclusions: Youths with higher levels of depressive symptoms are more reluctant to seek professional help and perceive higher barriers. This underlines the need for effective and low-threshold interventions to tackle barriers, increase help-seeking, and lower depressive symptoms in adolescents and young adults differing in depression severity. Background: In sepsis, initial resuscitation with fluids is followed by efforts to achieve a negative fluid balance. However, patients with sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) often need diuretic or renal replacement therapy (RRT). The dilemma is to predict whether early RRT might be advantageous or diuretics will suffice. Both the Furosemide Stress Test (FST) and measurements of the urinary biomarkers TIMP-2*IGFBP-7, if applied solely, do not provide sufficient guidance. We tested the hypothesis that a combination of two tests, i.e., an upstream FST combined with downstream measurements of urinary TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 concentrations improves the accuracy in predicting RRT necessity. Methods: In this prospective, multicenter study 100 patients with sepsis (diagnosed < 48h), AKI stage ≥ 2, and an indication for negative fluid balance were included between 02/2020 and 12/2022. All patients received a standardized FST and urinary biomarkers TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 were serially measured immediately before and up to 12 h after the FST. The primary outcome was the RRT requirement within 7 days after inclusion. Results: 32% (n = 32/99) of SA-AKI patients eventually required RRT within 7 days. With the FST, urine TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 decreased within 2 h from 3.26 ng2/mL2/1000 (IQR: 1.38–5.53) to 2.36 ng2/mL2/1000 (IQR: 1.61–4.87) in RRT and 1.68 ng2/mL2/1000 (IQR: 0.56–2.94) to 0.27 ng2/mL2/1000 (IQR: 0.12–0.89) and non-RRT patients, respectively. While TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 concentrations remained low for up to 12 h in non-RRT patients, we noted a rebound in RRT patients after 6 h. TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 before FST (accuracy 0.66; 95%-CI 0.55–0.78) and the FST itself (accuracy 0.74; 95%-CI: 0.64–0.82) yielded moderate test accuracies in predicting RRT requirement. In contrast, a two-step approach, utilizing FST as an upstream screening tool followed by TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 quantification after 2 h improved predictive accuracy (0.83; 95%-CI 0.74–0.90, p = 0.03) compared to the FST alone, resulting in a positive predictive value of 0.86 (95%-CI 0.64–0.97), and a specificity of 0.96 (95%-CI 0.88–0.99). Conclusions: The combined application of an upstream FST followed by urinary TIMP-2*IGFBP-7 measurements supports highly specific identification of SA-AKI patients requiring RRT. Background: Emergence agitation is a transient confusional state of a child associated with consciousness from general anaesthesia, commonly occurs in the postoperative setting which delays their recovery and exposes them to traumas. The main objective of the current study was to investigate the magnitude of emergence agitation, its interventions and associated factors among paediatric surgical patients at Saint Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study with prospective follow-up framework was conducted on a paediatric surgical patients aged 2-14 years who underwent surgery under general anaesthesia between June 1 - October 30 2022. Stratified sampling method followed by simple random sampling technique was employed to reach study participants. Magnitude of emergence agitation and its interventions done at post-anaesthetic care units were recorded. Data analysis was carried out using a descriptive statistics method and the results were summarized using tables and diagrams. Bivariate analysis was done to identify causal relationship and multivariable analysis to assess the confounding effects of factors associated with emergence agitation. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant factor. Results: A total of 150 participants were included in the current study, where 107 (71.3%) were male and 97 (64.7%) were preschool aged. About 81 (54%) of care givers were female and majority of them have completed primary school. The mean (standard deviation) age of the participants was 6.4 (3.57) years. Around 42.7% of them developed emergence agitation with an average duration of 8.39 ± 4.45 minutes. Factors such as propofol administration at the end of procedure (OR of 0.104 with 95% CI [0.035, 0305]), Ear, nose, throat surgery and oral maxillofacial surgery (OR of 2.341 with 95% CI [1.051, 5.211]) and arrival of patient to recovery awake (OR of 0.456 95% CI [0.209, 0.994]) showed statistically significant association with emergence agitation. Conclusion: Almost half of the study participants experienced emergence agitation which is high magnitude. Ear, nose, throat surgery and oral maxillofacial surgeries were predictive factors of emergence agitation while propofol administration at the end of procedure and arrival of patient to recovery awake significantly decreased risk of emergence agitation. Therefore, anaesthesia personnel should have essential skills and knowledge to effectively care for children perioperatively including to minimize and treat emergence agitation. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) requires regular follow-up to detect recurrence as early as possible. However, many patients are unable to regularly follow up due to the inconvenience of the conventional approach. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the impact of the online clinic on follow-up compliance and prognosis in NPC patients. Patients who were first diagnosed with NPC between April 2019 and November 2019 were enrolled. Good follow-up compliance was defined as having at least one follow-up visit every 6 months within 2 years after treatment completion. Sensitivity analyses were performed using a propensity score matching model. A total of 539 (42%) patients used online follow-up while 731 (58%) used traditional follow-up. The median age of patients in the online cohort was lower than that in the traditional cohort (44 vs. 47, p < 0.001). Compared with the traditional cohort, the online cohort had significantly better follow-up compliance (57.3% vs. 17.1%, p < 0.001) and a higher 2-year PFS rate (98.1% vs. 94.4%, p = 0.003). Survival analysis showed that online follow-up was an independent factor for better survival prognosis (HR 0.39, 95%CI 0.20–0.74, p = 0.004). Sensitivity analysis further confirmed these results. Background: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the correlation between subjective oral health status and mental health in a group of university students in Serbia. Methods: The study included 948 students, aged between 18 and 27, from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Kragujevac, Serbia, and was conducted in 2020. The World Health Organization's Oral Health Questionnaire for Adults was utilized to evaluate the respondents' self-perceived oral health and oral hygiene practices. The existence of depressive symptoms was evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Zung self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) was used for determining anxiety symptoms. Results: It is observed that 28.9% of respondents exhibit symptoms of depression and 42.3% showed symptoms of anxiety. Results show that students with severe depression and anxiety symptoms very often reported lower self-perceived oral health and oral health problems. Although the nature of this relationship has not been thoroughly evaluated, several studies have shown a mutually dependent connection between oral health and mental health. This study investigates the impact of nonsurgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in patients with periodontitis stages (S)2 and S3, and the factors associated with the prediction of patient-reported outcomes. Periodontitis patients (n = 68) with moderately deep periodontal pockets were recruited. Responses to the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP)-14 questionnaire and clinical parameters including plaque index, bleeding on probing (BOP), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment loss (CAL) were recorded. All patients received supra- and subgingival professional mechanical plaque removal. All clinical parameters and questionnaire responses were recorded again 3 months after NSPT. Clinical parameters and OHIP-14 scores for both stages of periodontitis were significantly improved 3 months after treatment. However, participants with periodontitis S3 had significantly higher total OHIP-14, physical pain, and functional limitation domains scores than periodontitis S2 cases. Baseline CAL, BOP, and the presence of PPD in anterior teeth were positively associated with increased OHIP-14 scores after NSPT. NSPT improved OHRQoL in participants with periodontitis S2 and S3. This was more pronounced in participants having periodontitis S3 than S2. Poorer OHRQoL could be anticipated in people having severe CAL, high BOP, and presence of pockets in the anterior teeth. Background: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) contribute to erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE). However, only a few studies have been conducted with representative groups of men that had well-balanced demographic characteristics. Thus, we aimed to confirm the effect of LUTS on ED and PE and to analyze the association between LUTS and men's sexual activity in a large representative cohort. In addition, we evaluated the sex-specific and overall quality of life of men who had LUTS with either ED or PE. Methods: We used the latest census and estimated the sample size to build a group of men representative of the population. LUTS, ED, and PE were evaluated with reliable instruments. Regression models were used to analyze the data. Results: All included men were representative in relation to their age and residential location (n = 3001). ED and PE were more common in men who reported LUTS compared with men who did not have LUTS (p < 0.001). Age, comorbidity, and lifestyle did not affect the negative effect of LUTS on ED or PE (regression coefficients of 0.159 and 0.528 for ED and PE, respectively, p < 0.001). However, regression models did not validate the impact of LUTS on sexual activity, defined by intercourse frequency and number of sexual partners (odds ratio of 0.981, CI 0.961–1.001, p = 0.061). Nevertheless, men with LUTS and either ED or PE had worse quality of sexual life and general quality of life compared with the remaining respondents. Conclusion: LUTS worsened ED and PE but had no impact on men's sexual activity. Our findings confirm the recommendations to assess for LUTS in men reporting ED or PE. During the COVID-19 pandemic, clinical nurses in hospitals in South Korea were exposed to extreme stress, and many continue to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This study explores the factors influencing PTSD among hospital clinical nurses during COVID-19. In total, 121 hospital clinical nurses participated in 2022, providing demographic information and completing surveys designed to measure PTSD, resilience, social support, professional pride in nursing (PPN), and variables related to COVID-19. We observed statistically significantly higher levels of resilience (91.48 vs. 70.00), social support (47.37 vs. 35.41), and PPN (88.36 vs. 68.06) in the low-risk PTSD group compared with the high-risk PTSD group. Resilience was associated with a reduced risk of PTSD (OR, 0.91; 95% CI = 0.84–0.98). The subfactors of control (OR = 0.60; 95% CI = 0.43–0.86) and sociability (OR = 0.68; 95% CI = 0.44–0.97) decreased PTSD risk. Among the social support subfactors, family support had an OR of 0.47 (95% CI = 0.26–0.86) for reducing PTSD risk. Programs involving family participation that enhance resilience and provide psychological support can help hospital nurses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic manage their PTSD. Cognitive frailty, which is characterized by the co-occurrence of physical frailty and cognitive impairment, poses significant risks to the well-being and independence of elderly individuals. Previous research has established that demographic, health-related, and social factors contribute to both physical frailty and cognitive decline. However, the role of social factors in influencing cognitive frailty remains unclear. This study aims to identify the relationship between social factors and cognitive frailty among Korean older adults living in the community. We performed secondary analyses of data from the 2020 Survey on Older Adults. After entering demographic factors and health-related factors into the logistic model as covariates, this study explored the association between cognitive frailty and social factors, including living arrangements, social support, the frequency of engagement in social activities per week, and satisfaction with friends and community. Among participants, approximately 2.9% had cognitive frailty, 3.2% had only physical frailty, and 21.9% had only cognitive decline. Lower levels of satisfaction with friends and the community and infrequent participation in social activities were strongly correlated with cognitive frailty. These findings emphasize the necessity of public health programs that encourage older individuals' social involvement. A supportive social environment can be fostered through initiatives that promote community events, group activities, and volunteerism. Public health policies should prioritize the development and maintenance of social activity centers that offer various programs to prevent progression to cognitive frailty in older adults. Background: Deep neck infections (DNIs) can compromise the airway and are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia that is associated with several comorbidities. We compared the clinical characteristics of DNI patients with and without DM. Methods: This study recorded the relevant clinical variables of 383 patients with DNIs between November 2016 and September 2022; of those patients, 147 (38.38%) had DM. The clinical factors between DNI patients with and without DM were assessed. Results: Patients with DM were older (p < 0.001), had higher white blood cell counts (p = 0.029) and C-reactive protein levels (CRP, p < 0.001), had a greater number of deep neck spaces (p = 0.002) compared to patients without DM, and had longer hospital stays (p < 0.001). Klebsiella pneumoniae was cultured more frequently from patients with DM than those without DM (p = 0.002). A higher CRP level (OR = 1.0094, 95% CI: 1.0047–1.0142, p < 0.001) was a significant independent risk factor for DM patients with prolonged hospitalization. The lengths of hospital stays in patients with poorly controlled DM were longer than those with well-controlled DM (p = 0.027). Conclusions: DNI disease severity and outcomes were worse in patients with DM than those without DM. Antibiotics effective against Klebsiella pneumoniae should be used for DNI patients with DM. The global health emergency generated by the COVID-19 pandemic (caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus) led to the implementation of extraordinary measures such as confinement and isolation in many countries to mitigate the spread of the virus. (1) This study analyzes the lifestyles and academic and perceived stresses of university students of health sciences during the period of online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The relationship between lifestyles and academic stress was examined. (2) A parallel mixed-method convergent study was conducted, with a correlational non-experimental design. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed in parallel, with parametric and nonparametric testing for quantitative data and Miles and Huberman's approach to qualitative analysis. The qualitative findings complemented the quantitative results. The number of students who participated in this study was 2734, from six programs in health, nursing, medicine, clinical laboratory, physiotherapy, dentistry, and clinical psychology at the University of Chimborazo, Ecuador. (3) Overall, the health science students had "Unhealthy or health-compromising lifestyles", medical students being the ones who have healthier lifestyles. However, more than 80% experienced and perceived stress during the period of online learning and social isolation due to the pandemic, women being the ones who experienced it at a higher level. (4) The online learning modality during the COVID-19 pandemic modified lifestyles and generated stress in health science students, due to changes in daily routines, sedentary lifestyle, and stress, as a result of social isolation. Therefore, the students prefer face-to-face teaching, perceived as enabling more enriching interactions with their teachers and peers and the opportunity to develop essential practical skills in their health practice. The present study aimed to explore the perceptions of spirituality and spiritual care among nurses who work in three different countries with different cultures as well as the factors influencing their perception. This is a cross-sectional multicultural study conducted with a total of 1090 nurses from Türkiye, Albania, and Italy. Data were collected through the "Individual Information Form" and the "Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale". Nurses' mean score on the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale was above average. It was also found that country, marital status, religious belief, Islamic religion, training for spiritual care, and using spiritual practices to cope with difficulties or illnesses influenced nurses' perception of spirituality and spiritual care. It was concluded that nurses from the three countries associated spirituality and spiritual care with religion and that some personal characteristics influenced their perceptions of spiritual care. This study examines the moderating effects of various factors on the relationship between physical activity (PA) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among 287 female college students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected through an online questionnaire covering health issues, PA, self-esteem, HRQoL, and sociodemographic information, supplemented by semi-structured interviews and focus groups with six participants. Results showed that 46% of respondents had good HRQoL, and 38% were physically active. The interactions of age, socioeconomic status (SES), and academic performance with PA on HRQoL were insignificant. However, physical and mental health problems significantly moderated the PA–HRQoL relationship, accounting for 1% and 4% of the variance, respectively. The qualitative analysis highlighted the need for student activity clubs and mental health support to enhance coping strategies and overall HRQoL. In conclusion, age and SES did not moderate the PA–HRQoL relationship, while physical and mental health issues did.
