The benefits of energy efficiency are recognized in multiple socio-economic spheres. Still, the quantitative impact on macroeconomic performance is not fully understood, as modeling tools are not thermodynamically consistent—failing to explicitly include the useful stage of energy flows and/or thermodynamic efficiencies in primary–final–useful energy transformations. Misspecification in the link between energy use and the economy underplays the role of energy use and efficiency in economic growth. In this work, we develop and implement the Macroeconometric Resource Consumption model for Portugal (MARCO-PT), 1960–2014. Based on the post-Keynesian framework developed for the United Kingdom (MARCO-UK), our model explicitly includes thermodynamic energy efficiency, extending the analysis to the useful stage of energy flows. The model's stochastic equations are econometrically estimated. The historical influence of key variables—namely thermodynamic energy efficiency—on economic output is assessed through counterfactual simulations and computation of year-by-year output elasticities. The MARCO-PT model adequately describes the historical behavior of endogenous variables. Although its influence has decreased over time, thermodynamic efficiency has consistently been the major contributor to economic growth between 1960–2014, with an average output elasticity of 0.46. Total useful exergy is also a major contributing factor, with an average output elasticity of 0.29. Both have a higher influence than capital, labor, or other energy variables (final energy, prices). This paper investigates whether renewable energy influences economic growth and happiness. Using panel data from 25 European Union countries for the period 2012–2022, this study employs a panel model for estimation with fixed and random effects, and robust HAC standard errors. According to the research results, in general, the growing share of renewable energy in the energy mix has a positive impact on economic growth and the happiness of citizens. However, detailed research has shown that this effect depends on the type of energy; a significant positive impact was recorded only in solar share energy, wind share energy and economic growth. However, almost all types of renewable energy were included, i.e., biofuel, hydro, solar and other renewable share energy, and all had a significantly positive impact on the level of happiness. The exception was wind share energy, which showed a significant negative impact. The research findings of this paper provide empirical support for promoting renewable energy, which is positive both for economies and the happiness of citizens. This paper examines the factors influencing Kosovo's economic growth from 2009 to 2022, specifically investigating the relationship between export, capital formation, consumption, and economic growth using co-integration analysis and the Vector Autoregressive Model (VAR). The findings indicate that exports of goods and services, as well as household consumption, negatively affect economic growth. Conversely, gross capital formation positively impacts economic growth. The study underscores the complexity of economic growth, highlighting the varied significance of different determinants in different contexts. Key findings reveal that while export and gross capital formation are significant contributors to economic growth, household consumption shows an insignificant relationship to GDP. This research contributes to the ongoing debate on the critical factors influencing economic growth, providing empirical evidence from the context of Kosovo and enhancing our understanding of these dynamics, thus offering new insights for policymakers. Economic growth is resulting in serious environmental problems. Effectively establishing an economic growth model that considers environmental pollution is an important topic. To analyze the interplay between economic growth and environmental pollution, a fractional-order time-delayed economic growth model with environmental purification is proposed in this paper. The established model considers not only the environment and economic production but also the labor force population and total factor productivity. This study investigates the impact of inflation rate fluctuations on economic growth in China, with a particular focus on potential non-linear characteristics. The global economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic notably heightens the study's relevance. The research that the unidirectional causal relationship from inflation to economic growth in China first strengthens and then weakens over time. Furthermore, there is an inflation rate threshold effect on economic growth, identified at 2%. Below this threshold, inflation positively influences economic growth, whereas above it, the impact turns negative. The study delves into how regulated derivatives trading influences economic growth across 21 countries, spanning from 1995 to 2022, encompassing major economies like the USA, UK, India, Brazil, Canada, and Australia. While derivatives markets are often linked with the 2008 financial crisis, our research explores their potential to positively impact the economy through various pathways detailed in the paper. Employing a dynamic panel data model (GMM) mitigates potential endogeneity concerns. Our findings reveal notable insights: we identify a positive association between the expansion of regulated derivatives trading and economic growth, evident in both percentage change and per capita GDP. Additionally, inflation shows a negative correlation with economic growth, while trade openness and fertility rates exhibit positive correlations. Notably, our study uncovers unexpected outcomes, diverging from existing literature, particularly concerning the relationships involving foreign direct investments, gross domestic savings, government consumption expenditure, and economic growth. For many years, economic growth has been one the main objectives of economies around the world. Recently, the central focus has diverted from the quantitative to the qualitative approach. Mainstream research acknowledged that institutional quality along with country risk is among the most significant factors that contribute to the achievement of high economic development rates. Country risk is associated with the probability that investors or companies from a certain country will face greater instability or losses and includes financial, economic, and political risks. Lower political risk ranks first in the category of main drives that enable countries to attract more foreign direct investments and allow markets to operate efficiently. This article examined the recent evolutions in terms of the concept and main antecedents of the political risks, considering the current negative disruptions that economies were forced to experience, covering aspects related to health, wars, and economic downturns. The analysis identified that a high political risk negatively impacts demographics, environment, and the health system. The ability of countries to bounce back and develop a strong resilient economy toward adverse shocks depends on the institutional quality and the effectiveness of policymakers, who are responsible for elaborating efficient economic policies. Globalization has been on an upward trend since the 1980s, consequentially ushering in growth and development benefits that have transformed the welfare standings of many countries worldwide. The Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) region, particularly, cannot be isolated from globalization gains. However, the region has been typified by the ongoing Russo-Ukraine war. Given that EECA economies are intertwined with those of Russia and Ukraine, this paper seeks to investigate the relationship between globalization and economic growth in EECA countries within the framework of the mediating role of governance. By employing the system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM), utilizing endogenous instruments drawn from the lags of the dependent variables as well as the 1st differences of the independent variables, the results reveal that overall globalization and its economic, social, and political facets do not affect economic growth in EECA countries. The paper also establishes that governance does not mediate the impact of globalization and its dimensions on economic growth in EECA. Similarly, governance dimensions have an insignificant effect in mediating the impact of overall globalization on economic growth in EECA. However, fixed capital formation significantly affects economic growth even though the power of its effect is relatively low. Regardless, globalization may potentially be valuable in stimulating trade, investment, and scientific advancements that are regarded as the foundations of contemporary growth and development. The economic growth and development of a country depend on the inflow of foreign direct investment, and the legal environment factors play an important role in securing it. Compared to other countries in South-Eastern Europe, Serbia has achieved remarkable results in terms of FDI inflows over the last ten years. The research goal of this study is to examine the impact of the legal environment on FDI inflows in Serbia. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach and a survey technique based on a structured questionnaire. The basic set of the research consists of the 300 most prominent foreign investors (response rate of 28%) who invested capital in Serbia in the period 2011-2019. The results of the conducted research show that ownership in Serbian companies is the most important factor in the legal environment that influences a foreign investor's decision to invest capital in these companies. Also, the results show that labor legislation, law enforcement, and confidence in the legal system can significantly contribute to a foreign investor's decision to invest capital in Serbia. The legal environment's implications on FDI inflows are diverse, influencing investor decisions and shaping the overall investment climate of a country. Farmland mortgages are expected to drive county agricultural economic growth (CAEG) as a crucial component of furthering the reform of the rural land system and the reform of the rural financial system against the new backdrop of the new era. This study gathers panel data from 2045 Chinese counties from 2011 to 2020 and uses the difference-in-differences method and the synthetic control method to systematically examine the effects of China's farmland management right mortgage loan (FMRML) pilot program on CAEG. The FMRML pilot program was implemented in 2016, and this research is presented as a quasi-natural experiment. The findings indicate that there is a "policy trap" and that CAEG has not been successfully promoted by the FMRML pilot program. The reason for this is because the pilot program has made county resource mismatch worse, making it unable to fully realize the promotional effect on CAEG, rather than significantly activating the three key drivers of agricultural economic growth: people, land, and money. The impact of the FMRML pilot policy on CAEG is not uniform, according to the results of the heterogeneity study, with a substantial "blocking" effect only in the central region and no significant influence in the western, northeastern, or eastern regions. The findings propose that in order to optimize agricultural mortgage policy and advance CAEG, China and other emerging nations can benefit greatly from the insights this study offers. Motivation: The impact of corruption on core ESG measures for EU countries has not yet been studied. There are few analyses in the literature on the relationship between corruption and ESG from a macro level, and only such analyses allow an indication of the costs of corruption and the effects of fighting it at the country level. Aim: The study aims to ocean the impact of corruption on ESG measures: CO2 emissions, life expectancy, and economic growth in the EU. Calculating the cost of corruption is key to properly assessing the effectiveness of anti-corruption projects. Results: The effect of corruption on ESG measures was shown to be heterogeneous. A non-linear relationship between corruption and CO2 and economic growth was shown, while the relationship between corruption and life expectancy was linear. China's economic growth rate has shown a general downward trend since 2010, and in unadjusted figures, the difference between the economic aggregates of China and the United States widened during 2022 and 2023. Consequently, misinformation concerning China's economic trends has appeared both in China and abroad. This study aims to refute the misinformation by demonstrating that China's economy has not fallen into a prolonged recession, and that the downward trend of China's economic growth is not a result of suppressing private enterprises while privileging state-owned firms. The gap between the economic aggregates of the United States and China has not begun to widen, and it is wrong to suggest that China can achieve sustained high-quality development through further privatization, marketization, and liberalization. Economic theory argues that foreign direct investment (FDI) and external debt are expected to enhance economic growth in any given economy. Consequently, this study (i) investigated the relationship between foreign direct investment, external debt servicing, and economic growth in Nigeria; (ii) investigated how foreign direct investment and external debt impact Nigeria's economic growth; and (iii) analyzed the direction of causality among the three macroeconomic variables. Descriptive statistics, time series autoregressive distributive lag, and robust Granger causality tests were adopted as the estimating techniques. The results showed that from 2011 to 2022, Nigeria's FDI continued to decline, Nigeria's external debt servicing continued to grow on an upward trajectory, and the growth of the GDP has been meandering. ARDL analysis results confirmed that the lag of FDI and current exchange rate exert positive effects on current economic growth in Nigeria, with a 1% increase in FDI, current external debt, and current exchange rate increasing growth by 1.49%, 1.58%, and 0.02%, respectively. Results from the Granger causality showed that FDI and external debt do Granger cause GDP in Nigeria. Policymakers should focus on prudent debt management practices and strive to reduce domestic debt levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper studies the dual interaction between economic growth and environmental quality in an endogenous growth model. We exhibit multiple equilibria and complex local and global dynamics, resulting in potential indeterminacy, hysteresis effects, or long-lasting growth and environmental cycles. From a policy perspective, we reveal that changes in the environmental policy should be handled with care, as they may generate aggregate instability or condemn the economy to an environmental poverty trap associated with a possible irreversibility of environmental degradation. Lastly, our analysis provides a reassessment of pollution taxes, which are found to improve long-run economic growth when the model is well-determined, but reduce it in the presence of indeterminacy. Sustainable development is based on three pillars: sustainable economic growth, social well-being and environment protection. Sustainable rural development is regarded as a multidimensional concept including an equitable and balanced development within a rural area, an increased level of social cohesion and equitability, as well as the assuming of responsibility for using natural resources and revealing at environmental protection. The studied region is located into the Strandzha Mtn - the only Bulgarian territory included in the five priority territories for conservation in Central and Eastern Europe. We have identified some core problems that should be addressed aiming to achieve the sustainable development of this area. Some of them are as follows: the absence of developing projects and focus on the development of individual villages, the lack of willingness of local people to cooperate, local resources are not effectively used and the local community is not adequately involved. This paper measures the macroeconomic influence of recent political crisis, protest and uprisings in Africa with the generalized synthetic control method and evaluates the role played by natural resource dependence on the modulation of the nexus. We find that political crisis, protests and uprisings have a significant and negative nexus with economic growth while the nexus is positive with investment and price level. For economic growth, the deviation of the actual series from the counterfactual is negative, instantaneous, persistent and highly significant; indicating non-negligible costs of the shock. Indeed, dependence on natural resources amplifies the negative influence of political crisis, protests and uprisings on GDP. Following the advice of institutionalist Wendell Gordon, the author aims to "tell it like it is" by reflecting on his own path to institutionalism, the economic contributions of post-Keynesian institutionalism, and some of the major issues that deserve institutionalists' further attention. Several heterodox economists are identified as influences contributing to the making of this economic maverick, but so too are Barbara Jordan and Michael Harrington. Then attention is given to the institutionally focused pre-analytic vision of post-Keynesian institutionalism, the inescapable reality of business cycles in market-oriented economies, and the institutionalized myopia of money-manager capitalism. This study employed an innovative spatial econometrics approach to analyze the spillover effects of foreign public debt and foreign direct investment (FDI) on regional economic growth dynamics of Eastern Africa. Specifically, we utilize Spatial Durbin Fixed Effect (SDM-FE) Model, drawing on balanced panel data from the World Development Indicators (WDI) for the period 1992-2019. This study contributes by utilizing a spatial weight matrix and investigating its interactions with economic growth and various other macro-regional factors, thereby unveiling the presence of spatial spillover effects and the impact of geographical proximity of countries within the region. Our results indicate that foreign public debt, FDI, gross fixed capital formation, human capital development, inflation, and government expenditure, significantly have spatial spillover effects on regional economic growth. Additionally, the results underscore the presence of regional growth divergence and provide further evidence of substantial regional spatial dependence in economic growth. Based on these outcomes, it is evident that foreign public debt has a negative impact on economic growth, which is consistent with the debt overhang theory and the crowding-out hypothesis. Moreover, the foreign public debt and regional growth policies should be devised considering the geographical interconnectedness between countries in the region, as the research output has revealed the impacts of growth and debt spillovers among the countries studied. Policies that prioritize these objectives would promote long-term regional economic growth and prevent the effects of excessive foreign public debt by creating a favorable macroeconomic climate. This paper investigates the relationship between external debt and energy access in the Sub-Saharan African countries over the period 1999-2021. Results from the dynamic panel threshold method indicates that the link between external debt and energy access is nonlinear. Moreover, the findings reveal a statistically negative relationship between external debt and energy access above the threshold of 5.04 %, beyond which external debt reduces energy access in SSA countries. Besides, results indicate that economic growth and trade openness enhance access to electricity. However, renewable energy consumption decreases energy access. Bangladesh, being the fastest growing economy in the South Asian region, necessitates a comprehensive study to evaluate the influence of various socio-economic factors. The primary objective of this study is to get a comprehensive understanding of the concept of sustainable development and its relationship to carbon emissions. This analysis will specifically consider the current status of economic and anthropogenic activities within the context of Bangladesh. This research examines the aforementioned matter by utilizing the latest accessible yearly data spanning from 1990 to 2020, as well as employing advanced econometric models including the dynamic autoregressive distributed lag approach and frequency domain causality test. The analysis of empirical data reveals that the economic growth experienced in Bangladesh has yielded a discernible and favorable influence on the degradation of the environment, in both the immediate and extended periods. Nevertheless, it is crucial to acknowledge that the observed impact holds no statistical significance. Furthermore, it is apparent that energy consumption has a substantial impact on the escalation of carbon emissions, in both the immediate and prolonged periods. Additionally, the processes of industrialization and foreign direct investment have also exerted adverse effects on short-term carbon emissions. A frequency domain causality test is used in this work to do a robustness analysis and confirm that there are causal links between economic growth, energy use, development, and carbon emissions over a range of time frames, such as the short, middle, and long terms. The above studies have given us a lot of useful information about how economic growth, energy use, industrialization, and environmental sustainability all affect each other in Bangladesh. Bangladesh should prioritize the formulation of policies and regulations that are centered around specific goals. These objectives include: (a) enhancing government engagement in activities related to environmental innovation, (b) integrating ecologically sustainable development targets by adopting renewable energy sources, and (c) devising strategies and initiatives to attract foreign direct investment, facilitate knowledge exchange, and promote energy-efficient manufacturing to stimulate economic growth. In this paper, we aim to analyze the behavior of developed-country acquiring firms in dealing with Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions location choices at both national and sub-national levels with the impact of carbon risk and heterogeneous environmental regulations (Government, Civil, and Market Environmental regulations) and to explore their Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions performances under different situations. A sample of 874 intra-manufacturing Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions completed by developed-country acquirers and conducted in developed countries and China during 2002–2021 was analyzed using logistic regression and multiple linear regression. The results show that: (1) Acquirers with higher carbon risks tend to choose China rather developed country as the target location, while this relationship is not strengthened by the home country's high-level environmental regulations; (2) At the sub-national level, Chinese provinces' government environmental regulations cannot impede acquirers to enter; what's more, the civil environmental regulations even attract these acquirers, this is particularly the case if the acquirer has high carbon risk; (3) Acquirers with higher carbon risks can achieve more performance, no matter whether they choose China as the target country. Our findings add insight into the effect of carbon risks on companies' decisions and the unique characteristics of the heterogeneous environmental regulations in China. What's more, implications are provided for Chinese regulators and policymakers, e.g., listening to the public opinion, improving the governance quality, and attracting foreign investors to help domestic industry upgrading and maintain long-run economic growth. This research explores the evolution of several socioeconomic indicators belonging to the aggregate dimension of inequality (income, health, life expectancy, education, and sustainable development) in 5 CEE countries spanning 2010-2019. A special focus is dedicated to Romania's national and regional framework due to mixed evidence concerning inequality's impact on economic growth, poverty and human development. Our main results show a high value of this group's recorded human development index (HDI), indicating an elevated level of the population's well-being. Nevertheless, further analyses reflect severe disparities among countries and regions in terms of productivity, earnings, and social inclusion, corroborated by losses in education and welfare due to increased inequality. Enterprise creation, destruction and evolution support the transition to modern economic growth, yet these processes are poorly understood in industrialising contexts. We investigate Imperial Russia's industrial development at the firm level by examining entry, exit and persistence of corporations. Relying on newly developed balance sheet panel data from every non-financial Russian corporation (more than 2,500 of them) between 1899 and 1914, we examine the characteristics of entering and exiting corporations, how new entrants evolved and the impact of founder identity on subsequent outcomes. Russian corporations evolved within a market environment, conditional on overcoming distortionary institutional barriers to entry that slowed the emergence of these leading firms in the Imperial economy. Using the series of the top 1% income shares in 137 countries, I examine the relationship between top-end inequality and subsequent economic growth from the 1920s to the 2010s. These data enable a versatile exploration of various time horizons. To address concerns regarding chosen functional forms, I employ penalized spline methods to accommodate potential nonlinearities. Empirical findings suggest that the relationship between top-end inequality and subsequent growth is complex, contingent upon both the investigated time horizon and the level of economic development. I find some evidence for a positive link at medium levels of economic development, with this positive link being more pronounced in short- to medium-term associations. I also find that the positive medium-run association weakens as economic development advances. In advanced economies, a negative (or nonpositive) medium- to long-term relationship emerges between the top 1% income share and growth in many settings. This study aims to investigate the impact of the banking sector on economic growth and commodity prices. Through panel data analysis, the research explores the relationship between the banking sector and economic growth in Spain, France, and Romania from 2000 to 2020. The findings reveal a positive correlation between the strength of the banking sector and economic growth across these nations, underscoring its pivotal role in fostering economic expansion and subsequently improving commodity prices. Additionally, this study evaluates various regulatory measures crucial ensuring the banking sector's sustainability and preventing financial crises, including credit risk management, lending policies, liquidity constraints, and international financing and investment strategies. By analyzing the interplay between regulatory measures and banking sector performance, incorporating variables such as non-performing loans, household debt, liquid liabilities, government consumption expenditure, foreign investments, and trade openness, this research provides policymakers with valuable insights to formulate effective strategies for promoting economic stability and ensuring the sustainability and growth of the banking sector. Asia stands out as the most populous and geographically diverse region globally. The pressing issues of water resource development and the resulting ecological impacts are exacerbated by the region's rapid population growth and economic expansion. Groundwater, a vital source of water in Asia, faces significant disparities in distribution and suffers from unsustainable exploitation practices. This study applies groundwater system theory and categorizes Asia into 11 primary groundwater systems and 36 secondary ones, based on intercontinental geological structures, climate, terrain, and hydrogeological characteristics. As of the end of 2010, Asia's assessed groundwater resources totalled 4.677x109 m3/a, with exploitable resources amounting to 3.274x109 m3/a. By considering the geological environmental impacts of groundwater development and the distinctive characteristics of terrain and landforms, six categories of effect zones with varying distribution patterns are identified. The current research on Asia's groundwater resources, environmental dynamics, and human impacts aims to provide a theoretical foundation for sustainable groundwater management and environmental conservation in the region. Understanding the rationale for macroeconomic policy coordination with the aim of achieving greater policy credibility and effectiveness in West Africa still remains the subject of debate. This study evaluates the effect of macroeconomic policy coordination on economic growth uncertainty in West Africa, utilizing a panel data set of the 15 member states from 1980 to 2020. The study employed Pedroni's cointegration test procedure and the Generalized Linear Model, fixed effect procedure for evaluation. The stationarity test results show that the variables are stationary at first difference at the 5% significant level, for the common and individual effect tests respectively. The cross section dependence test result indicates that there exists a cross-sectional independence for the variables under consideration. Pedroni's cointegration test results indicate that there exists a long run relationship between economic growth uncertainty and macroeconomic policy variables. The fixed effect model result shows that monetary policy variable, inflation (INF) affect growth uncertainty negatively. The fiscal policy variable, government debts (DEBTS) indicates a positive sign to growth uncertainty and is significant statistically. The coefficient of the regional trade variable, (TRADE) and exchange rate indicate positive signs and are insignificant statistically. It is important to ascertain how uncertainty affect policy coordination gains. Population aging has become a social issue of concern to the whole world, and as the world's most populous country, how to cope with population aging will be a hot issue that all sectors of Chinese society must think about. This paper uses provincial panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2000 to 2021 to study the relationship between population aging and economic development based on the perspective of health expenditure. The DIFF-GMM model, the fixed effect model (FE), and fixed effect instrumental variable model (FE-IV) are used to test this study. The following two conclusions are drawn from the empirical study: (1) population aging has a significant inhibitory effect on economic development, while health expenditures have a significant promotional effect on economic development; and (2) increased health expenditures help to alleviate the negative impact of population aging on economic development. However, the deepening of population aging will likewise inhibit the positive effect of health expenditure on economic growth. Based on the conclusions of the study, it is recommended that the government and society should continue to increase spending in the field of health protection, encourage and guide residents to carry out self-care, and moderately increase personal health expenditure, to promote economic development with healthy bodies and realize the goal of "Healthy China". The unavoidable option for socially sustainable development is a low-carbon economy. One of the essential steps for China to attain high-quality development is reducing carbon emissions. It is necessary to realize low-carbon development in Sichuan, as it is not only an important economic zone but also an ecological protected area. The concurrent relationship among energy consumption, carbon emissions, and economic growth was examined in this study using the Tapio decoupling indicator, and the factors affecting energy consumption and carbon emissions in Sichuan were broken down using the logarithmic mean Divisia indicator (LMDI). The findings demonstrate a fundamental relative decoupling relationship between Sichuan's energy use and carbon emissions. Analysis of energy consumption and carbon emissions in Sichuan Province from 2005 to 2020 shows distinct patterns. From 2005 to 2012, in 2014, and from 2016 to 2020, the relationship between energy use and carbon emissions was relatively decoupled, with decoupling values ranging between 0 and 1. Absolute decoupling occurred in specific years: 2010, from 2013 to 2018, and in 2020. These periods are characterized by economic growth alongside reductions in carbon emissions. Factors affecting energy consumption and carbon emissions were consistently analyzed, showing similar impacts throughout the study periods. We find that population and economic growth are the main driving forces of these effects. The digital economy (DE) has become a major breakthrough in promoting industrial upgrading and an important engine for high-quality economic growth. However, most studies have neglected the important driving effect of regional economic and social (RES) development on DE. In this paper, we discuss the mechanism of RES development promoting the development of DE, and establish a demand-driven regional DE development model to express the general idea. With the help of spatial analysis toolbox in ArcGIS software, the spatial development characteristics of DE in the Yangtze River Delta City Cluster (YRDCC) is explored. We find the imbalance of spatial development is very significant in YRDCC, no matter at the provincial level or city level. Quantitative analysis reveals that less than 1% likelihood that the imbalanced or clustered pattern of DE development in YRDCC could be the result of random chance. The transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing industry is supported by smart and green manufacturing, which have great potential to empower the nation's green development. This study examines the impact of the Made in China 2025 industrial policy on urban green economic growth. This study applies the super-slacks-based measure model to measure cities' green economic growth, using the double machine learning model, which overcomes the limitations of the linear setting of traditional causal inference models and maintains estimation accuracy under high-dimensional control variables, to conduct an empirical analysis based on panel data of 281 Chinese cities from 2006 to 2021. The results reveal that the Made in China 2025 strategy significantly drives urban green economic growth, and this finding holds after a series of robustness tests. A mechanism analysis indicates that the Made in China 2025 strategy promotes green economic growth through green technology progress, optimizing energy consumption structure, upgrading industrial structure, and strengthening environmental supervision. In addition, the policy has a stronger driving effect for cities with high manufacturing concentration, industrial intelligence, and digital finance development. The study focuses on the energy consumption (EC) and environmental pollution caused by carbon consumption in China's development. The Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region is selected as the primary focus of investigation. To gain insight into the relationship between China's economic growth (EG) and carbon reduction (CR), two major research elements, the impact of each on the other is examined. The study mainly uses decoupling models and influence models to analyze the decoupling relationship and effectiveness between CR and EG. The research results showed that there was a difference between long-term and short-term effects. The short-term effect in the YRD region was manifested as a continuously improving decoupling state, while the long-term effect was manifested as the significant impact of population and per capita Gross Domestic Product on CR. The effect value of EC factor was 0.43, while the effect value of CR factor was 0.07. In functional comparison, the role of EC factors was more significant. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For almost a decade, countries have been working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet progress on the SDGs across countries, as well as across the 17 goals, has proven frustratingly slow. Even countries that have performed relatively well on the SDGs may have done so by causing negative externalities, such as environmental degradation, in other parts of the world. To determine if this is the case empirically, we developed and tested hypotheses concerning how a country's SDG performance is associated with such externalities. We then ran a regression to examine correlations between indices measuring SDG progress, ecological footprints and international spillovers. We found that SDG progress is positively correlated with increased ecological footprints and spillovers. The results indicate that SDG progress remains closely associated with conventional measures of economic growth, and that negative environmental and social impacts of internationally-sourced consumption represent behavioural and structural barriers to meaningful progress on sustainability. This study investigates the relationship between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows and economic growth at sectoral levels in Bangladesh, employing a panel study framework. Utilizing sectoral-level panel data spanning six sectors from 2007–08 to 2018–19, the analysis is conducted using Panel Vector Error Correction Model (Panel VECM). Results from panel unit root tests confirm that all variables are integrated of order one I (1), indicating stationarity. The Pedroni panel co-integration test further supports the presence of co-integration among the variables. Notably, the Panel VECM reveals evidence of a unidirectional causal relationship from Real Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) to Real Foreign Direct Investment (RFDI) across all six sectors of Bangladesh. The findings underscore the significance of formulating pragmatic policies and implementing them effectively to attract FDI across sectors, thereby contributing to the overall economic growth of Bangladesh. Water scarcity has significantly hampered China's economic, social, and environmental development. Ensuring sustainable water utilization is crucial given the mounting water stress accompanying continuous economic growth. A quantitative water resource forewarning model was constructed using the vector autoregressive (VAR) model. By analyzing the key indicators related to water systems and GDP data from 2001 to 2022, the VAR model revealed the long-term dynamic correlation between water consumption and economic growth using generalized impulse response, co-integration, and predictive variance decomposition analyses. The results revealed the presence of a long-term equilibrium between water consumption and economic growth, with a stable co-integration relationship and an optimal lag period of one year. The positive impact of water consumption on economic development increased during the 2001–2022 period, indicating a rising dependence of GDP on water resources. Water usage rose with economic development, while the water resource carrying capacity remained high and continued to grow. Based on the generalized impulse response, co-integration, and predictive variance decomposition analyses, this study predicted water-use-related indicators, providing vital early warnings for China's water environment carrying capacity from 2023 to 2050. Numerous studies conducted by various scholars have aimed to ascertain the impact of monetary policy on economic growth. However, these empirical investigations have not reached a unanimous consensus. Therefore, this study analyzes the effect of monetary policy. To address this objective, this study employed ARDL and error correction model (ECM) based on annual data from 1993 to 2022. Granger causality test was also employed to check the direction of causal effects of one variable on the other variable. All required pre and post estimation tests were performed and verified that the model was statistically viable. The study revealed that, in the short run, deposit interest rate, reserve required amount, and open market operation have positive and statistically significant effects on real GDP growth of Ethiopia; however, money supply has negative and statistically significant effects on real GDP growth of Ethiopia. In the long run, money supply has positive and statistically significant effects on real GDP growth of Ethiopia; however, deposit interest rate and reserve required have negative and statistically significant effects on real GDP growth of Ethiopia. To sum up, in the short run, contractionary monetary policy was promising, and in the long run, expansionary monetary policy was favorable for economic growth. The Granger causality test result shows that there is bidirectional causality between monetary policy and economic growth; except there was a unidirectional relationship between deposit interest rate and economic growth. Ultimately, this research suggests the following policy recommendation: for short-term economic enhancement, it is advisable for the government to opt for a contractionary monetary policy rather than an expansionary one. The current research project investigates the correlation between economic growth, government spending, and public revenue in seventeen Indian states spanning the years 1990 to 2020. An analysis of the relationship between key fiscal policy variables and economic growth was conducted utilising a panel data approach, the Generalised Method of Moments (GMM), and fully modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS & DOLS) estimation. In our investigation, we assessed the impacts of non-tax revenue, development plan expenditure, tax revenue, and development non-plan expenditure on (i) the net state domestic product (NSDP) and (ii) the NSDP per capita. The findings indicate that the selected fiscal variables are significantly related. The results indicate that expeditious expansion of the fiscal sector is obligatory to stimulate economic growth in India and advance the actual development of the economies of these states. In this paper, we study asymptotic model change detection in multivariate linear regression by using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov function of the partial sum process of recursive residuals. We approximate the rejection region and also the power function of the test by establishing a functional central limit theorem for the sequence of the partial sum processes of the recursive residuals of the observations. When the assumed model is true, the limit process is given by the standard multivariate Brownian motion which does not depend on the regression functions. However, when the assumed model is not true (some models change), the limit process is represented by a vector of deterministic trend plus the standard multivariate Brownian motion. The finite sample size rejection region and the power of the test are investigated by means of Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation study shows evidence that the proposed test is consistent in the sense that it attains the power larger than the size of the test when the hypothesis is not true. We also demonstrate the application of the proposed test method to Indonesian economic growth data in which we test the adequacy of three-variate low-order polynomial model. The test result shows that the growth of the Indonesian economy is neither simultaneously constant nor linear. The contextualization of the finances of the state of Rio de Janeiro, especially in the face of the economic crisis that the state has faced, justifies this study. The methodology applied is qualitative, bibliographical and documental, and theoretical-empirical content analysis for the period 2013-2022. The specific objective is to identify the effects of fiscal policies on economic growth in the state of Rio de Janeiro and to seek an answer to the following question: can fiscal policies be improved to achieve economic growth and fiscal sustainability, so that public policies can guarantee social welfare in the state? Investigating the preponderant causes of the fiscal crisis shows us that the state's fiscal situation and future prospects depend on the ability to overcome obstacles of a political nature, which can hinder the fiscal outcome of the measures to be adopted. The priority should be to debate in depth the appropriate level of subsidized credit for the private sector and which sectors should benefit from it, considering its cost and benefit in the medium and long term, compared to other fiscal policies and alternatives for financing private investment, in order to guarantee economic growth and the fiscal sustainability of government policies. Nowadays, economic growth is influenced by many domestic and foreign global issues, concerning the decrease of industrial output for the rise in economic inequality and the weakening of the overall condition in the countries. The role of economic growth is based on human capital and investment. Therefore, in this paper, the human capital and economic management system (HC‐EMS) has been proposed to enhance the country's quality based on the capital structure investment. HC explores the role of command and its significance in the production and creation aspects of human capital such that an area can grow creatively. HC‐EMS analysed critical monitoring systems for developing human resources and the high‐tech and creative economic sectors and presented suggestions for change. Besides, there is a need to prove the shortcomings and benefits of human resource development systems and statistical approaches for gathering and analysing information. The impact of financial services and financial transactions may vary; therefore, it is critically important for fostering economic growth. In recent years, as China experiences economic expansion and its corporations become more global, it has notably become a central hub for cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on the world stage. The Chinese government, in tandem, leverages these international M&A operations to drive industrial transformation and progress in technology. This research investigates the role of China's industrial policies in shaping cross-border M&A activities by examining recent instances. Findings indicate that relaxing financial barriers and applying specific industrial tactics bolster companies' abilities to secure funding, consequently energizing cross-border M&A initiatives. Several firms in these international mergers and acquisitions are intricately connected to political strategies, markedly affecting the formulation of industrial policies. This assertion is corroborated through the analysis of relevant statistical evidence. This study examines university-driven partnerships that promote entrepreneurship in underserved communities, drawing from the experiences of NCGrowth, an economic development center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We address the following questions: Who are the central stakeholders? How do they interact? What do their challenges and experiences imply for policymaking and practice in nurturing entrepreneurship ecosystems in underserved communities? We employed social-network analyses of NCGrowth's projects spanning 2013–2019, supplemented by document analysis of archival data and in-depth interviews. The study uncovers highly asymmetric connections among stakeholders, with universities and government agencies emerging as dominant entities, leveraging universities' specialized knowledge and community relationships. Nevertheless, challenges surface due to overlapping roles as facilitators, the absence of consistent community carriers of development plans, and a dearth of financial institutions. Our findings advocate for an ecosystem-focused approach to economic development in underserved areas, emphasizing the involvement of additional anchor institutions such as hospitals, major corporations, and philanthropists. Furthermore, policies and practices should integrate the objectives of entrepreneurship, economic growth, and social equity to cultivate inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of a country's entry into the monetary union on its economic variables growth rate of real GDP as well as on GDP per capita growth for the period from 2010 to 2020. The clustering method and the ANFIS method were used in the data analysis. A total of two cluster analyses were performed. The first cluster includes countries that joined the EU in 2004 and became EZ members by 2010. The second cluster refers to those countries that joined the EU in 2004 but are not yet members of the EZ. For the first individual cluster analysis two models were analysed and for the second individual cluster three models were analysed using the ANFIS method. As expected, the results showed that GDP growth is connected with trade, inflation and gross investments in fixed capital in the observed countries, while GDP per capita is connected with unemployment, interest rates and public debt. With regard to GDP growth, the difference between countries that are in the eurozone and those that are not is not significant, which is in line with other studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current situation of the Romanian economy must be understood beginning from the analysis of the main measures of fiscal-budgetary policy applied over the last years by the public authority. In general, the Romanian fiscal policy (before and after accession) was procyclical. However, we continue by presenting some of its characteristics for the past years when we underwent the last ascending phase of the economic cycle. Actually, Romania's GDP exceeded constantly the potential level, and the demand surplus became predominant, generating inflationary pressures. Maintaining the expansionist level of the fiscal policy, in the conditions of a positive deviation of GDP, as of 2017, and opting-out regarding the structural deficit target contributed to affecting the stability of public finances, on short-and medium-term. Romania entered into an extremely difficult economic context, generated by the pandemic, with an extremely narrow fiscal space which limited a lot the possibilities of combating the effects of the pandemic. In this paper we analyzed a period limited to the year 2020, because we consider this time as marking the end of an economic cycle in a period of peace and economic calm, as another is about to begin based on the new realities. Agriculture is changing rapidly, and technology is playing a crucial role in this change. The concept of Agriculture 4.0 seeks to optimize every factor to minimize inputs and maximize efficiency. Big data is being collected to improve management and farm management. Precision farming is being used to predict crop development phases and yields. The European Union is lagging behind the US and China in terms of innovation and market evaluation. Innovation drives economic growth, and it goes beyond invention. Small and medium-sized enterprises are playing an essential role in driving economic growth, particularly in the agri-food business. To improve resilience and production efficiency in the agri-food business, there is a need to boost SMEs' competitiveness. The European agri-food business is lagging in terms of digitalization, but there is a significant potential for growth.
