A new species of semiterrestrial crab of the potamid genus Tiwaripotamon Bott, 1970, is described from limestone hills in northern Vietnam. Tiwaripotamon bellum n. sp. is one of the largest known species in the genus, and its external morphology is most similar to T. vietnamicum (Đăng & Hồ, 2002), described from northern Vietnam. Tiwaripotamon bellum n. sp., however, can easily be separated by its much darker colour in life, possession of a distinct epibranchial tooth on the carapace, the proportionately shorter ambulatory meri, and the gently curved terminal segment of the male first gonopod, with a subtruncate tip and dorsal lobe on the proximal part of the structure.

A new species of vampire crab, Geosesarma garutense n. sp. is described from Garut in the eastern part of West Java, Indonesia. The species is unusual among congeners in Java in that the exopod of the third maxilliped does not possess a flagellum, the carapace is broadly rectangular in shape and the G1 relatively is short and stout, with the chitinous distal part spatuliform.

The taxonomy of the pinnotherid crab, Pinnotheres tivelae (Gordon, 1936), now assigned to Arcotheres Manning, 1993, is revised. Type specimens from Muscat, Gulf of Oman, are compared with extensive material from the type locality and Persian Gulf. Arcotheres tivelae is shown to be a valid species, is redescribed, figured to modern standards and males are reported for the first time. This species had been confused with A. placunae (Hornell & Southwell, 1909) from Pakistan and western India, but the two species can be distinguished by the morphology of the carapace, third maxilliped, ambulatory leg features and characters of the male first gonopod. Arcotheres tivelae is morphologically closest to three other species also found in venerid clams, A. exiguus (Bürger, 1895), A. rayi Ahyong & Ng, 2007, and A. obesus (Dana, 1852), but the distal morphology of its male first gonopod is distinct from its congeners. Furthermore, A. tivelae is recorded from Kuwait for the first time.

A new hymenosomatid crab, Chartocinus rarus n. gen. n. sp., is described from coastal waters in western Papua (formerly Irian Jaya) in Indonesia. The new genus superficially resembles Amarinus Lucas, 1980, but can easily be distinguished by its subquadrate third maxillipeds with the merus produced along the anteroexternal edge, elongate ambulatory legs, elongate male thoracic sternum, short male pleon without distinct intercalated plates on somite 5, and a short male first gonopod in which the inner margin is distinctly bilobed.

The taxonomy of majid spider crabs collected from recent southwest Indian Ocean cruises belonging to Eurynome Leach, 1814, and allied genera is treated. Eurynome longimana Stimpson, 1857, long synonymised with the European E. aspera (Pennant, 1777), is here recognised as a distinct species. Stimpson’s (1857) species can be distinguished by the armature of granules on the third maxilliped, proportions and armature of the ambulatory merus, relatively shorter ambulatory dactylus, structure of the male sternopleonal cavity and relative proportions of the male first gonopod. The composition of Choniognathus Rathbun, 1932, is discussed and the type species, C. koreensis Rathbun, 1932, is figured. One species, C. verhoeffi (Balss, 1929), is not considered to be a member of Choniognathus and its taxonomy is discussed. A new spinose species, C. spinosus, is also described. Seiitaoides Griffin & Tranter, 1986, is revised, and two new species, S. mirabilis and S. kabuto, are described and compared with S. orientalis (Sakai, 1961) and S. stimpsoni (Miers, 1884). The poorly known Eurynome elegans Stebbing, 1921 is rediscovered, its taxonomy clarified and the species is shown to belong to Kasagia Richer de Forges & Ng, 2007. A second species of Kasagia, K. sudhakari Padate, Manjebrayakath & Ng, 2019, recently described from the Arabian Sea is recorded from southwest Indian Ocean.

Two new species of the gecarcinucid freshwater crab genus Arachnothelphusa are described from the Malaysian state of Sarawak in Borneo; one from Lanjak-Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary and another from Bako National Park. Arachnothelphusa rimba n. sp. is distinctive in possessing very long legs and a male first gonopod which has a cylindrical proximal part of the terminal segment, with the distal part sharply tapering to an acute tip. Arachnothelphusa bako n. sp. is superficially closest to A. kadamaiana from Sabah, but differs markedly by its narrower epistome, and proportionately shorter third maxillipeds and ambulatory legs.

The identities of two species of shallow water Southeast Asian and southern Chinese leucosiid crabs Philyra fuliginosa Targioni-Tozzetti, 1877, and P. olivacea Rathbun, 1909, are clarified; and shown to be synonyms. A new genus, Ovilyra, is established for P. fuliginosa, and it is easily distinguished from Philyra s. str. as well as allied genera by possessing an elongate carapace, a narrow and slender male pleon with somites 1 and 2 articulate, and a male first gonopod which has the distal quarter sharply bent with a well developed subdistal process.

Based partly on a collection of homolid crabs captured from baited traps in deep waters off French Frigate Shoals, Northwest Hawaiian Islands, in October 2006, the Hawaiian species of the family Homolidae are reviewed. Known genera and species in the Hawaiian Islands now include two species of Homola (H. orientalis and H. dickinsoni), two species of Lamoha (L. williamsi and L. personata), and five genera that are each represented by a single species (Paramola japonica, Moloha major, Yaldwynopsis hawaiiana, Latreillopsis okala, and Homologenus namakae). Seven of the 14 currently recognized genera of the Homolidae and nine of the 74 known species are now known from Hawaiian waters. Colour notes are included for the first time for two species (H. dickinsoni and Y. hawaiiana). A key to the family Homolidae in Hawaiian waters is included.

The identities of the deep-water brachyuran crabs Carcinoplax abyssicola (Miers, 1885), C. longipes (Wood-Mason, 1891), and C. specularisRathbun, 1914 (family Goneplacidae MacLeay, 1838) are clarified on the basis of the examination of types and of an extensive series of specimens from the Indo-West Pacific region, including colour photographs of fresh specimens. Two species described from the Philippines, C. verdensisRathbun, 1914 and C. politaGuinot, 1989, and previously synonymised under C. specularis, are shown to be distinct species. Two new species, C. adelphia n. sp. and C. jugum n. sp., are described from Vanuatu and the Philippines, respectively. Carcinoplax adelphia n. sp. differs from the closely allied C. specularis by having a male first gonopod (G1) that is relatively more elongated, particularly the distinctly more slender distal half, than the G1 of C. specularis. Carcinoplax jugum n. sp. is characterized by a suite of characters that includes an epistome with strongly concave lateral margins, a carapace having distinctly swollen gastric and cardiac regions, and a G1 with a subconical distal part. The taxonomies of these seven species, as well as that of the allied C. fasciataNg & Kumar, 2016 from southwestern India, are revised. A revised, updated key to the 25 known species of Carcinoplax H. Milne Edwards, 1852 is also provided.

A new species of semi-terrestrial sesarmid crab of the genus Geosesarma De Man, 1892, is described from central Taiwan. Geosesarmamirumsp. nov. is distinct in possessing a strong transverse crest on the inner surface of the male chela and a diagnostic male first gonopod which is relatively long and stout, with the distal chitinous part broad and spatuliform. Like most Geosesarma species, G.mirumsp. nov. has large eggs and direct development, contrasting with the only other species known from Taiwan, G.hednon Ng, Liu and Schubart, 2004, which has small eggs and planktotrophic larvae.

A new species of freshwater crab of the genusIndochinamonYeo & Ng, 2007 (family Potamidae), is described from highlands north of Myitkyina in Kachin State, Myanmar.Indochinamonkhinpyaesp. n.is distinguished from congeners by its very rugose carapace, broad male pleon and distinctively structured male first gonopod; and is the first potamid species recorded from northern Myanmar.

The identity of the majid species of Paramaya De Haan, 1837, in the Indian Ocean is clarified with the collection of fresh specimens from the Bay of Bengal. Previously identified as P.spinigera (De Haan, 1837) which is known only from Japan, Taiwan, and Korea, the material from eastern India is here referred to a new species, P.mulli sp. n. The new species can easily be distinguished from all congeners by its relatively shorter pseudorostral and carapace spines, more swollen branchial regions, distinctly granulated male thoracic sternum, and the G1 is not prominently curved with the dorsal projection on the sub distal part short and the tip rounded.

Two brachyuran species of the families Dynonemidae and Iphiculidae are reported from red coral beds in northern Taiwan. The dynonemid Acanthodromia margarita (Alcock, 1899) has hitherto been reported from the Andaman Sea, Japan, and Philippines and the species is here recorded for the first time from Taiwan. A new species of iphiculid, Pariphiculus stellatus sp. n., is also described. The new Pariphiculus, which also occurs in the Philippines, is superficially similar to P. agariciferus Ihle, 1918, a species known from Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, South China Sea, Taiwan, and Vanuatu, but can be distinguished by distinct carapace, pleonal and male first gonopod features.

A new genus and new species of pinnotheroid crab of the family Aphanodactylidae, Ankerius aenigmaticus n. sp., is described from the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia. The genus is unusual among aphanodactylids in possessing more gaping third maxillipeds, strongly spiniform chelipeds and ambulatory legs, as well as a relatively longer ambulatory dactylus.

Freshwater crabs of the genus Sinopotamon Bott, 1967 (family Potamidae) are widely distributed along the Yangtze River (= Chang Jiang) drainage and are endemic to China. Two distinct clades can be distinguished within Sinopotamon s. lato. on the basis of morphological and molecular data. One clade corresponds to Sinopotamon s. str., with the type species Potamon (Potamon) davidi Rathbun, 1904, and 11 other species, all which occur in the Sichuan Basin (including Sichuan Province and Chongqing City) and reach the border areas of adjacent Shaanxi, Hubei, and Guizhou provinces. A new genus, Longpotamon gen. nov., is proposed for the second clade, with Sinopotamon exiguum Dai, 1997, designated as the type species. Sinopotamon s. str. can be distinguished from Longpotamon gen. nov. by the shape of the male telson and by characters of the male first gonopod and the female vulvae. These differences are supported by the mitochondrial 16S rDNA and cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) genetic data. Longpotamon gen. nov. is the largest clade, with 73 known species and a wide distribution along the Yangtze River drainage extending north to the Yellow River drainage and south to the eastern side of Wuyishan Range. The two genera overlap in the Sichuan Basin and the adjacent provinces.

The taxonomy of the deep-water homolid crabs Moloha grandperrini Guinot & Richer de Forges, 1995 and M. alisae Guinot & Richer de Forges, 1995 is re-examined, and the types redescribed and figured. Moloha alisae is reported from South Africa for the first time. A new species with an inflated carapace, M. tumida sp. nov., is also described from southern India and compared with its closest congeners.

A new species of porcellanid crab, Raphidopus persicus, is described from Iran and Iraq in the Persian Gulf. The speciesis distinguished from its congeners, R. ciliatus Stimpson, 1858, R. indicus Henderson, 1893, and R. johnsoni Ng & Naka-sone, 1994, by a combination of carapace features, structure of the third maxilliped and thoracic sternum, cheliped armature, and proportions of the ambulatory legs.

Platepistoma seani sp. nov. is described from deep water off KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. It can be separatedfrom its nearest relative, Platepistoma guezei (Crosnier, 1976), by its thicker setal covering that completely hides the an-terolateral teeth from dorsal view, less well defined carapace regions, more spinous anterolateral and posterolateral cara-pace margins, sparser but more prominent dorsal carapace spines, more prominent spines on the carpus of the cheliped, and a relatively narrower male telson.

The fiddler crab, Uca splendida (Stimpson, 1858) has been synonymized under Uca crassipes (White, 1847) since Crane(1975). Studies of specimens from the Hong Kong type locality and adjacent areas of China, Taiwan and Vietnam showthat U. splendida is a valid species, with a characteristic suite of carapace and gonopod features as well as a distinctcytochrome oxidase I (COI) signature. Genetic work shows that U. splendida belongs to a well-supported clade and is thesister species of U. crassipes. The distribution of U. splendida is restricted to continental East and continental SoutheastAsia, in contrast to the oceanic distribution of U. crassipes. Both species, however, are sympatric in Penghu Islands, western Taiwan and Dongsha Island (=Pratas Island).

A new deep-water species of box crab, Calappa karenae sp. nov. (Brachyura: Calappidae) is described from Guam. Thenew species differs from its congeners by its distinctive colouration and conspicuously wide carapace. It is one of the largest Calappa species known from the Indo-West Pacific.

American carcinologist Sidney Irving Smith (1843–1926) established names of one family, seven genera and 50 species ofbrachyuran crustaceans in 11 publications between 1869 and 1885. The precise dates of these publications as determined fromvarious sources are given, with particular emphasis on the relative precedence of four that appeared in 1869. A complete list ofthe brachyuran names proposed by Smith, and their current identities, is also given. Xantho stimpsonii Smith, 1869, a previ-ously overlooked replacement name for Xantho denticulatus Stimpson, 1860 (non White, 1848), is an objective synonym of Williamstimpsonia stimpsoni (A. Milne-Edwards, 1873), and the precedence of the two names is reversed to maintain prevail-ing usage of the latter. The same action is also taken for Xantho multidentatus Lockington, 1877, a subjective synonym of Wil- liamstimpsonia stimpsoni (A. Milne-Edwards, 1879). The authorship of the following names previously attributed to attributedto Smith in a publication by Verrill (1869) should be attributed only to the latter author: Hepatella amica (Aethridae), Hypocon- cha panamensis (Dromiidae) and Pinnotheres margarita (Pinnotheridae). Authorship of the name Cardiosoma, an unjustifiedemendation of Cardisoma (Gecarcinidae), is conventionally attributed to Smith (1869) but it was actually first used by Agassiz (1846). Cardisoma is attributed to Latreille, in Latreille, Le Peletier, Serville & Guerin, 1828.

The identity of the rare xanthid crab, Pilumnoplax acanthomerus Rathbun, 1911, originally described from the AmiranteIslands in the western Indian Ocean, is elucidated. Stevcic (2005) transferred the species from Pilumnoplax Stimpson,1858, to a new genus, Linnaeoxantho. This monotypic genus is re-diagnosed and new morphological characters are high-lighted. New records from Ryukyu and Line Islands, in the western and central Pacific, respectively, are reported. Linnae- oxantho is compared with the morphologically similar Melybia Stimpson, 1871, from the western Atlantic, and theiraffinities are discussed. Linnaeoxanthinae Stevcic, 2005, is here recognised as a valid xanthid subfamily for Linnaeoxantho and Melybia, and is considered to have priority over Melybiidae Stevcic, 2005.

A new genus and species of swimming crab of the family Portunidae Rafinesque, 1815, is described from Kume Island,Ryukyus, Japan. The new genus of the subfamily Carupinae Paul’son, 1875 is allied to the genera Pele Ng, 2011, andLibystes A. Milne-Edwards, 1867, but differs in the shapes of the carapace, thoracic sternum, third maxilliped, merus of the cheliped, fifth pereiopod, male abdomen and gonopods.

The xanthid subfamily Polydectinae Dana, 1851, is recorded for the first time in the Philippines, being represented by four species: Polydectus cupulifer (Latreille, in Milbert, 1812), Lybia tessellata (Latreille, in Milbert, 1812), L. leptochelis (Zehntner, 1894), and L. hatagumoana Sakai, 1961. The taxonomy of L. hatagumoana is discussed at length, and a new genus, Tunebia gen. nov., established for it and the allied L. tutelina Tan & Ng, 1994, from New Caledonia. The new genus is diagnosed and compared with other polydectine genera.

A new genus and new species of pilumnid crab is described from marine encrusting communities in Singapore. Leelumnus gen. nov. is morphologically similar to Latopilumnus Türkay & Schuhmacher, 1985, and Aniptumnus Ng, 2002, in the general shape of the carapace, chelipeds, ambulatory legs and morphology of the male thoracic sternum, but can be distinguished by the morphologies of the front and anterolateral margin of the carapace, as well as the unique structure of the male first gonopod. Only the type species, L. radium sp. nov. is currently assigned to the new genus.

A new species of Labuanium Serène & Soh, 1970, L. vitatum is described from northeastern Indian Ocean. It belongs to the L. rotundatum species-group, but is most closely related to L. scandens Ng & Liu, 2003, and L. papuomalesiacum (Nobili, 1899), the latter being here formally removed from synonymy with L. rotundatum (Hess, 1865) and raised to full species status. The new species differs from congeners by numerous characters including the structure of the male first pleopod, carapace and third maxillipeds, and by differences in proportions of the male abdominal somites.

The genusand species-group names Sphaerapoeia collingwoodii were made available in an account of the voyage of the H.M.S. Serpent by Collingwood (1868) for a species of intertidal ocypodoid crab found in Singapore, Labuan (Borneo) and Johore (Peninsular Malaysia). The names were used in Collingwood (1868) on the basis of a letter to him from Bate, who never published these names himself. Based on the morphological, ecological and locality notes given by Collingwood (1868), we identify Sphaerapoeia collingwoodii with the dotillid Scopimera intermedia Balss, 1934. We enact Article 23.9.2 of the Code to reverse precedence of these names, thereby making Scopimera intermedia Balss, 1934, a nomen protectum, and Sphaerapoeia collingwoodii Collingwood, 1868, a nomen oblitum.

A large dynomenid specimen from the Tuamotu Archipelago previously thought to belong to Metadynomene tanensis (Yokoya, 1933) is shown to be a new species, M. tuamotu sp. nov. Metadynomene tanensis is a widespread Western Pacific species occurring from Japan to New Zealand; while M. tuamotu sp. nov. joins M. devaneyi (Takeda, 1977) as the second species of this genus known from French Polynesia. A key to the genus is provided.

A new species of fiddler crab, Uca jocelynae sp. nov., belonging to the U. vocans complex, is described from the islands in Western Pacific on the basis of morphological and molecular data. The new species was previously identified with U. neocultrimana (Bott, 1973) (= U. vocans pacificensis Crane, 1975). The two species can be readily distinguished by characters of the male major chelae, carapace features, and the form of the vulvae. The molecular data of parts of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA and cytochrome oxidase I (COI) genes support that both are sister taxa but nevertheless distinct enough to be regarded as separate species. Uca jocelynae is widely distributed from the islands in the Western Pacific, while U. neocultrimana occurs in Fiji and eastwards.

The taxonomy of the planopilumnid Planopilumnus Balss, 1933 (type species Pilumnus spongiosus Nobili, 1905) (Pseudozioidea), is revised. A junior synonym, Rathbunaria Ward, 1933 (type species Rathbunaria sculptissima Ward, 1933)), is resurrected. Five species, Pilumnus labyrinthicus Miers, 1884, Pilumnus vermiculatus A. Milne-Edwards, 1873, Pilumnus penicillatus Gordon, 1930, Planopilumnus minabensis Sakai, 1969, and Planopilumnus pygmaeus Takeda, 1977, which have been described in or transferred to Planopilumnus, are here shown to be pilumnids (Pilumnoidea). Two new genera, Vellumnus and Colerolumnus, are established to accommodate these species.

Two new species of goneplacid crabs assigned to Notonyx A. Milne-Edwards, 1873 (Crustacea: Brachyura: Goneplacidae) are described from the Philippines and Fiji. Notonyx sagittifer n. sp. from Philippines is superficially similar to N. latus Ng & Clark, 2008, from the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia, but the carapace of the new species is proportionately less broad and the morphologies of the male first and second gonopods are significantly different. Notonyx rayneri n. sp. is closest to N. kumi Naruse & Maenosono, 2009, from Japan and Indonesia but differs markedly in its carapace proportions as well as the structures of the male first and second gonopods.

A close examination of adult and first stage zoeal morphology confirms some previous suggestions that S. anomalus is actually an anomalous member of the Dotillidae Stimpson, 1858. However, because a number of distinctive features distinguish it from all other dotillid genera a new subfamily Sheniinae is established., Jose A. Cuesta acknowledges an EU grant from BIORESOURCES Large Scale Facility that allow him to visit the Natural History Museum, London and collaborate with Paul Clark on larval morphology of the Ocypodoidea.

Three new genera and five new species of epialtid majoid crabs are described from deep water in the western Pacific. Two new species of Oxypleurodon Miers, 1886: O. sanctaeclausi n. sp. and O. annulatum n. sp. are described from the Philippines. New specimens of the rare Oxypleurodon carbunculum (Rathbun, 1906) from the Hawaiian Islands are also recorded. Three new genera are established: Garthinia n. gen. for G. disica n. sp. from the Solomon Islands; Guinotinia n. gen. for G. cordis n. sp. from New Caledonia and G. lehouarnoi n. sp. from Fiji and Tonga; and Laubierinia n. gen. for Sphenocarcinus nodosus Rathbun, 1916, and Rochinia carinata Griffin & Tranter, 1986.

Two new species of karst sesarmid crabs of the genus Karstarma Davie & Ng, 2007, are described from western Papua, Indonesia. Karstarma ardea n. sp. differs from the allied K. ultrapes (Ng, Guinot & Iliffe, 1994) from the Solomon Islands by its proportionately shorter ambulatory legs and the shape of its vulva. Karstarma waigeo n. sp. is closest to K. balicum (Ng, 2002) from Bali, Indonesia, but differs in its proportionately longer ambulatory legs and in the morphology of the male first gonopod.

Two new species of gecarcinucid crabs of the genus Holthuisana Bott, 1969, are described from the islands of Waigeo and Batanta in West Papua Province, Indonesia. Holthuisana lipkei n. sp. differs from the allied H. alba Holthuis, 1980, from Papua New Guinea by having fully developed pigmented eyes, smooth carapace, smooth and distinctly gaping second major chela, and the relatively more slender male first gonopod. Holthuisana tikus n. sp. resembles H. subconvexa (Roux, 1927) from Papua Province but differs by possessing indistinct and shallow epigastric lobes on the carapace, the absence of a subdistal tooth on the upper margin of the ambulatory merus of pereiopods 2-5 and a relatively stouter male first gonopod. The taxonomic status of Holthuisana and its constituent species is also discussed.

A new species of Notonyx A. Milne-Edwards, 1873 (Crustacea: Brachyura: Goneplacidae) is described from the Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia. It differs from known congeners by possessing a relatively broader carapace and distinctive male first gonopod. The affinities of the new species with the superficially similar N. nitidus A. Milne-Edwards, 1873, and N. gigacarcinicus Clark & Ng, 2005, are discussed.

Recent collections of deep-sea majid crabs from the South Pacific Ocean and Taiwan provide new records of five species of Cyrtomaia Miers, 1886, and a new species from French Polynesia, C. polynesica n. sp. The news species is most similar to the recently described C. micronesica Richer de Forges & Ng, 2007, but differs from this species in the morphology of its carapace and pereopods.

A new species of Alainodaeus Davie, 1993, is described from Balicasag Island in the central Philippines. Alainodaeus filipinus n. sp., can be differentiated from congeners by the characters of its carapace, chelipeds, ambulatory legs and male first gonopods. A key to the species of Alainodaeus is provided. The occurrence of A. filipinus in the Philippines represents a remarkable extension in the range of this genus, which was previously known only from islands in the southern and southwestern Pacific.

A new species of deep-sea spider crab of the genus Cyrtomaia (Brachyura: Majidae) is described from Guam and Palau. Cyrtomaia micronesica n. sp. is differentiated from its closest congener, C. cornuta Guinot & Richer de Forges, 1988, from New Caledonia by a different carapace armature, shorter basal antennal spines, proportionately longer chelipeds, relatively longer male second and fourth ambulatory meri, and a different male first pleopod.

A new genus and new species of euryplacid crab (Brachyura, Goneplacoidea) is described from the Philippines. It superficially resembles species of Carcinoplax H. Milne Edwards, 1852 (Goneplacidae) but the structure of the sternum, abdomen, and gonopods show that it is a euryplacid. Comparisons are made with Eucrate De Haan, 1835.

A new species of homolodromiid crab, Dicranodromia danielae n. sp., is reported from Balicasag Island, Panglao, Philippines. The new species is allied to D. doederleini Ortmann, 1892, This brings to two the number species known from the Philippines including D. martini Guinot, 1995, described from Cagayan and off Mindanao islands. Most species of Dicranodromia are found deeper than 400 m, but the new species was collected from 200 to 300 m.

A total of 24 dromiid and six dynomenid crab species are now known from the Philippines. Newly recorded dromiids for the islands are Lauridromia dehaani (Rathbun, 1923), Cryptodromia coronata Stimpson, 1858, Cryptodromia pileifera Alcock, 1901, Epigodromia areolata (Ihle, 1913), and Takedromia longispina McLay, 1993; the new dynomenid records being Acanthodromia margarita (Alcock, 1899), Hirsutodynomene vespertilio n. sp. and Metadynomene tanensis (Yokoya, 1933). A revised key to the species of Hirsutodynomene is provided.

Tetralia nigrifrons forma cyanea Ser��ne & Dat, 1957 (type locality Vietnam), is almost certainly identical with Tetraloides heterodactyla Heller, 1861. Ser��ne & Dat (1957) described the taxon as having bright blue spots on the ambulatory legs ("... le vif de ses taches bleues sur les p��reiopodes)", a diagnostic characterisation of live or freshly preserved specimens (Castro 1997 b: 46). Trapezia bella Dana, 1852 Trapezia bella Dana, 1852: 254, pl. 15, fig. 2 (colour) (Plate 3 B). Remarks. This species was described from an unspecified number of specimens from Carlshoff Island (= Aratika Island), Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia (Dana 1852: 254). No specimens are extant. The only colour figure that is known of T. bella is that of Dana (1852: pl. 15, fig. 2; see Plate 2 B). Forest & Guinot (1961: figs. 129, 130) published an excellent drawing which shows the characteristic colour pattern and morphology of the species. The photograph supposedly of T. bella by Ser��ne (1984: pl. 38, fig. F) actually shows T. formosa Smith, 1869 (see Castro 1997 b, 1998). Although the diagnostic colour pattern (with small redbrown dots) and morphology (adults with rounded anterolateral margins lacking teeth) are unique, juveniles may be confused with juveniles of T. tigrina, an often��sympatric species. A male (MNHN��B 27679; cl 5.3 mm, cw 6.2 mm) from Takapoto Atoll (14 �� 35 ���S, 145 �� 13 ���W), Tuamotu Archipelago is herein designated as the neotype. It was collected by O.
