The SmartCulTour Platform has been conceived, designed, and implemented to serve the purpose of a Decision Support System (DSS), helping users make sense of the large plethora of data collected as a result of several SmartCulTour activities. This objective has been achieved through a structured set of sophisticated, highly interactive data visualization tools, which – during the project’s lifespan – have progressively evolved in order to host newly acquired data sources and corresponding requirements. Throughout this process, a user-centred approach has been adopted, thereby prioritizing users’ engagement. This deliverable focuses on providing readers with a series of case studies, which are intended as an operative illustration of the modalities of particular segments of the SmartCulTour Platform. The present document also serves as the textual counterpart to a set of hands-on videos (to be found at http://www.smartcultour.eu/smartcultour-platform/) in order to intuitively communicate and disseminate the aforementioned tools to a larger public. The objective is to start from a needs-based perspective and list a series of information objectives that users could practically achieve through the adoption of selected data visualization tools featured in the DSS. Since the SmartCulTour Platform is rich in data types (both visualization approaches, variable groups, and regional scopes), use cases will be limited to four examples that are considered of particular interest and relevance: 1) The regionalized Tourism Travel and Competitiveness Index 2) The Living Lab Basic Dashboards 3) The Living Lab Intertopic Clustering and Data Clustering 4) The Telco Tourism Trends visualizer

The main purpose of the SmartCulTour Decision Support System (DSS) is to define an engaging model for a more systematic representation of analyzed data and for visualizing statistics to increase understanding about the impacts of cultural tourism. WP5 of the SmartCulTour project aims at developing a web application to display traditional and non-traditional data sources, to help entrepreneurs, policy makers and academics make decisions. The DSS is served via a web interface, making it accessible through a web browser from a proper device connected to the Internet, without the need to install any software. Data are visualized on a map in the form of areas or points; to obtain more information the user can further explore the data by displaying charts or tables on demand. It is possible to make comparison between items on the same map. The responsive approach allows the DSS to be also explored on mobile devices. This deliverable merely acts as a gateway to the on-line version of the Platform, which can be consulted at: http://www.smartcultour.eu/smartcultour-platform/ The Platform combines three geographical levels: Living Labs (local regions in Italy, Croatia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Finland), regional and national. As required by Art. 29 of the Grant Agreement, each beneficiary must – as soon as possible – disseminate its results by disclosing them to the public by appropriate means (other than those resulting from protecting or exploiting the results), including in scientific publications (in any medium). As part of this obligation, within the SmartCulTour-project, multiple deliverables have been foreseen across work packages, to focus on an open access publication strategy. This deliverable provides metadata and abstracts of the publications residing under Work Package 4: “Assessing the impacts of cultural tourism”. Deliverable 4.3 aimed to provide “A minimum of 3 academic papers on sustainable cultural tourism, resilience, and the TALC model” and therefore focuses on sustainable cultural tourism indicators, the link between cultural tourism development, sustainability and resilience, and the integration of cultural tourism, sustainability/resilience, and the tourism area life cycle. The full papers are available in open access and can be found by following the DOI links provided. The deliverable is a living document that, after initial submission, can be updated in case of additional scientific publications within the scope of Work Package 4.
