Recent studies of [Formula: see text]-groups of coclass [Formula: see text] concentrate on the coclass graph [Formula: see text]. While the detailed structure of [Formula: see text] is unknown, it is known that its general structure is dominated by the subgraph of ‘skeleton groups’. The original definition of these groups is technical, but some modifications for special cases have been used successfully in the literature. Given their importance, in this paper we define and investigate skeleton groups more rigorously. In particular, we study their isomorphism problem, which is a crucial step towards understanding the skeleton subgraph of [Formula: see text]. During our work we identified erroneous arguments for constructing isomorphisms in a proof of the 2013 paper on [Formula: see text]. We correct these errors here by proving the required results in a more general context.

In this paper, we obtain the crosscap number of any alternating knots by using our recently-introduced diagrammatic knot invariant (Theorem 1). The proof is given by properties of chord diagrams (Kindred proved Theorem 1 independently via other techniques). For non-alternating knots, we give Theorem 2 that generalizes Theorem 1. We also improve known formulas to obtain upper bounds of the crosscap number of knots (alternating or non-alternating) (Theorem 3). As a corollary, this paper connects crosscap numbers and our invariant with other knot invariants such as the Jones polynomial, twist number, crossing number, and hyperbolic volume (Corollaries 1–7). In Appendix A, using Theorem 1, we complete giving the crosscap numbers of the alternating knots with up to 11 crossings including those of the previously unknown values for [Formula: see text] knots (Tables A.1).

The paper deals with rank, trace, eigenvalues and norms of the matrix [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] are ith components of any real sequence [Formula: see text]. A result in this paper is that the Euclidean and spectral norms of the matrix [Formula: see text] is [Formula: see text]. This is a generalization of the main result by Solak [Appl. Math. Comput. 232 (2014) 919–921], with the proof based on a simple property of norms of real matrices.

We give presentations of the asymptotic expansions of the Kashaev invariant of hyperbolic knots with seven crossings. As the volume conjecture states, the leading terms of the expansions present the hyperbolic volume and the Chern–Simons invariant of the complements of the knots. As coefficients of the expansions, we obtain a series of new invariants of the knots. This paper is a continuation of the previous papers [T. Ohtsuki, On the asymptotic expansion of the Kashaev invariant of the [Formula: see text] knot, Quantum Topol. 7 (2016) 669–735; T. Ohtsuki and Y. Yokota, On the asymptotic expansion of the Kashaev invariant of the knots with 6 crossings, to appear in Math. Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc.], where the asymptotic expansions of the Kashaev invariant are calculated for hyperbolic knots with five and six crossings. A technical difficulty of this paper is to use 4-variable saddle point method, whose concrete calculations are far more complicated than the previous papers.

Suppose [Formula: see text] is a finite field extension of [Formula: see text] containing a primitive [Formula: see text]th root of unity. Let [Formula: see text] be a maximal [Formula: see text]-extension of [Formula: see text] with the Galois group of period [Formula: see text] and nilpotent class [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we develop formalism which allows us to study the structure of [Formula: see text] via methods of Lie theory. In particular, we introduce an explicit construction of a Lie [Formula: see text]-algebra [Formula: see text] and an identification [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a [Formula: see text]-group obtained from the elements of [Formula: see text] via the Campbell–Hausdorff composition law. In the next paper, we apply this formalism to describe the ramification filtration [Formula: see text] and an explicit form of the Demushkin relation for [Formula: see text].

Algebra 242 (2001) 2030], Araujo and RuAtic studied finite generation and finite presentability of Bruck Reilly extension of a group. In this paper, we aim to generalize some results given in that paper to generalized Bruck Reilly s -extension of a group. In this way, we determine necessary and sufficent conditions for generalized Bruck Reilly s-extension of a group, G R. (G; beta, gamma; u), to be finitely generated and finitely presented. Denote by $G$ a finite group and by $\psi(G)$ the sum of element orders in $G$. If $t$ is a positive integer, denote by $C_t$ the cyclic group of order $t$ and write $\psi(t)=\psi(C_t)$. In this paper we proved the following Theorem A: Let $G$ be a non-cyclic group of odd order $n=qm$, where $q$ is the smallest prime divisor of $n$ and $(m,q)=1$. Then the following statements hold. (1) If $q=3$, then $\frac {\psi(G)}{\psi(|G|)}\leq \frac {85}{301}$, and equality holds if and only if $n=3\cdot 7\cdot m_1$ with $(m_1,42)=1$ and $G=(C_7\rtimes C_3)\times C_{m_1}$, with $C_7\rtimes C_3$ non-abelian. In this paper, it is shown that, for every non-trivial variety [Formula: see text] of groups, the variety [Formula: see text] of all completely regular semigroups all of whose subgroups belong to [Formula: see text] is minimal in its kernel class in the lattice [Formula: see text] of all varieties of completely regular semigroups, and hence it constitutes, in fact, a singleton kernel class in the lattice [Formula: see text]. Even more generally, it is shown that, for every variety [Formula: see text] of completely simple semigroups which does not consist entirely of rectangular groups, the variety [Formula: see text] of all completely regular semigroups all of whose completely simple subsemigroups belong to [Formula: see text] is minimal in its kernel class in the lattice [Formula: see text], and hence it likewise constitutes a singleton kernel class in the mentioned lattice [Formula: see text].

A finite group [Formula: see text] is called a [Formula: see text]-group if every proper subgroup of [Formula: see text] is either quasi-normal or self-normal in [Formula: see text]. In this paper, the authors classify the non-[Formula: see text]-groups whose proper subgroups are all [Formula: see text]-groups.

In this paper, we give strong restrictions on the structure of the quotients [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is a finite group with an automorphism [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is the largest normal [Formula: see text]-subgroup of [Formula: see text].

Jones introduced unitary representations for the Thompson groups [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] from a given subfactor planar algebra. Some interesting subgroups arise as the stabilizer of certain vector, in particular the Jones subgroups [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. Golan and Sapir studied [Formula: see text] and identified it as a copy of the Thompson group [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we completely describe [Formula: see text] and show that [Formula: see text] coincides with its commensurator in [Formula: see text], implying that the corresponding unitary representation is irreducible. We also generalize the notion of the Stallings 2-core for diagram groups to [Formula: see text], showing that [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are not isomorphic, but as annular diagram groups they have very similar presentations.

The main result of this paper shows that if $\mathcal{M}$ is a consistent strong linear Maltsev condition which does not imply the existence of a cube term, then for any finite algebra $\mathbb{A}$ there exists a new finite algebra $\mathbb{A}_\mathcal{M}$ which satisfies the Maltsev condition $\mathcal{M}$, and whose subpower membership problem is at least as hard as the subpower membership problem for $\mathbb{A}$. We call a reduced word [Formula: see text] multiplicity-bounding if and only if a finite group on which the word map of [Formula: see text] has a fiber of positive proportion [Formula: see text] can only contain each non-abelian finite simple group [Formula: see text] as a composition factor with multiplicity bounded in terms of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. In this paper, based on recent work of Nikolov, we present methods to show that a given reduced word is multiplicity-bounding and apply them to give some nontrivial examples of multiplicity-bounding words, such as words of the form [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a single variable and [Formula: see text] an odd integer.

This paper deals with the reducibility property of semidirect products of the form [Formula: see text] relatively to graph equation systems, where D denotes the pseudovariety of definite semigroups. We show that if the pseudovariety [Formula: see text] is reducible with respect to the canonical signature [Formula: see text] consisting of the multiplication and the [Formula: see text]-power, then [Formula: see text] is also reducible with respect to [Formula: see text].

We consider groups [Formula: see text] which have generating sets consisting of pairwise conjugate elements. We introduce a natural condition on such sets, namely path-connectedness, which has strong consequences when [Formula: see text] acts on a real tree. The main result of the paper states that the group of type-preserving automorphisms of a regular simplicial tree has a generating set with this property.

The algebra [Formula: see text] admits a natural grading [Formula: see text] by the cyclic group [Formula: see text] of order 2. In this paper, we describe the [Formula: see text]-graded A-identities for [Formula: see text]. Recall that an A-identity for an algebra is a multilinear polynomial identity for that algebra which is a linear combination of the monomials [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] runs over all even permutations of [Formula: see text] that is [Formula: see text], the [Formula: see text]th alternating group. We first introduce the notion of an A-identity in the case of graded polynomials, then we describe the graded A-identities for [Formula: see text], and finally we compute the corresponding graded A-codimensions.

Landau's theorem on conjugacy classes asserts that there are only finitely many finite groups, up to isomorphism, with exactly k conjugacy classes for any positive integer k. We show that, for any positive integers n and s, there exist finitely many finite groups G, up to isomorphism, having a normal subgroup N of index n which contains exactly s non-central G-conjugacy classes. Upper bounds for the orders of G and N are obtained; we use these bounds to classify all finite groups with normal subgroups having a small index and few G-classes. An old and challenging conjecture proposed by Fox in 1962 states that the coefficients of the Alexander polynomial of any alternating knot are trapezoidal. In other words, these coefficients, increase, stabilize then decrease in a symmetrical way. This curious behavior of the Alexander polynomial has been confirmed in several special cases of alternating knots. The purpose of this paper is to prove that the conjecture holds for some families of alternating knots of braid index 3.

In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a graph [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] 2, of [Formula: see text] 8 to have cdn[Formula: see text]. Moreover, graphs G of [Formula: see text] 6, and [Formula: see text] = 5 and 6, such that cdn[Formula: see text], are characterized in this research.

In this paper, we study the properties of the nearly [Formula: see text]-embedded subgroups and use them to determine the structure of finite groups. Some known results are generalized.

Let [Formula: see text] be a commutative ring and [Formula: see text] be an [Formula: see text]-module. The compressed essential graph of [Formula: see text], denoted by [Formula: see text] is a simple undirected graph associated to [Formula: see text] whose vertices are classes of torsion elements of [Formula: see text] and two distinct classes [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are adjacent if and only if [Formula: see text] is an essential ideal of [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we study diameter and girth of [Formula: see text] and we characterize all modules for which the compressed essential graph is connected. Moreover, it is proved that [Formula: see text], whenever [Formula: see text] is Noetherian and [Formula: see text] is a finitely generated multiplication module with [Formula: see text].

This paper concerns several ring theoretic properties related to matrices and polynomials. The basic properties of [Formula: see text]-reversible and power-Armendariz are studied. We provide a method by which one can always construct a power-Armendariz ring but neither symmetric nor Armendariz from given any symmetric ring. We investigate next various interesting relations among ring theoretic properties containing [Formula: see text]-reversibility and power-Armendariz condition.

For any biordered set of idempotents [Formula: see text] there is an initial object [Formula: see text], the free idempotent generated semigroup over[Formula: see text], in the category of semigroups generated by a set of idempotents biorder-isomorphic to [Formula: see text]. Recent research on [Formula: see text] has focused on the behavior of the maximal subgroups. Inspired by an example of Brittenham, Margolis and Meakin, several proofs have been offered that any group occurs as a maximal subgroup of some [Formula: see text], the latest being that of Dolinka and Ruškuc, who show that [Formula: see text] can be taken to be a band. From a result of Easdown, Sapir and Volkov, periodic elements of any [Formula: see text] lie in subgroups. However, little else is known of the “global” properties of [Formula: see text], other than that it need not be regular, even where [Formula: see text] is a semilattice. The aim of this paper is to deepen our understanding of the overall structure of [Formula: see text] in the case where [Formula: see text] is a biordered set with trivial products (for example, the biordered set of a poset) or where [Formula: see text] is the biordered set of a band [Formula: see text]. Since its introduction by Fountain in the late 1970s, the study of abundant and related semigroups has given rise to a deep and fruitful research area. The class of abundant semigroups extends that of regular semigroups in a natural way and itself is contained in the class of weakly abundant semigroups. Our main results show that (1) if [Formula: see text] is a biordered set with trivial products then [Formula: see text] is abundant and (if [Formula: see text] is finite) has solvable word problem, and (2) for any band [Formula: see text], the semigroup [Formula: see text] is weakly abundant and moreover satisfies a natural condition called the congruence condition. Further, [Formula: see text] is abundant for a normal band [Formula: see text] for which [Formula: see text] satisfies a given technical condition, and we give examples of such [Formula: see text]. On the other hand, we give an example of a normal band [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] is not abundant.

In this paper we first determine, for an arbitrary but a fixed degree [Formula: see text], an algorithm to list the possible values [Formula: see text] for which [Formula: see text] is non-empty, where [Formula: see text] denotes the cyclic group of order [Formula: see text]. In particular, we prove that [Formula: see text] should divide one of the integers: [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]. Secondly, consider a curve [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] has an element of “very large” order, in the sense that this element is of order [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]. Then we investigate the groups [Formula: see text] for which [Formula: see text] and also we determine the locus [Formula: see text] in these situations. Moreover, we work with the same question when [Formula: see text] has an element of “large” order: [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] an integer.

Park, Projective curves of degree=codimension+2, Math. Z. 256 (2007) 685–697] for the minimal free resolution of [Formula: see text]. It is well-known that [Formula: see text] is an isomorphic projection of a rational normal curve [Formula: see text] from a point [Formula: see text]. Our main result is about how the graded Betti numbers of [Formula: see text] are determined by the rank of [Formula: see text] with respect to [Formula: see text], which is a measure of the relative location of [Formula: see text] from [Formula: see text].

In this paper, we give lower and upper bounds on [Formula: see text] for any [Formula: see text] and find those graphs for which the extremal values are attained. We give a comparison between the bounds obtained and exact value of [Formula: see text] for any [Formula: see text]. We then find the eigenvalues of [Formula: see text] and give lower and upper bounds on the spectral radius of [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] are primes and [Formula: see text] is a positive integer, we obtain sharper bounds on [Formula: see text]. Finally, we make a conjecture on [Formula: see text] for any [Formula: see text].

A closed knight’s tour of a normal two-dimensional chessboard by using legal moves of the knight has been generalized in several ways. One way is to consider a closed knight’s tour on a ringboard of width [Formula: see text], which is the [Formula: see text] chessboard with the middle part missing and the rim contains [Formula: see text] rows and [Formula: see text] columns. Another way is to stack [Formula: see text] copies of the [Formula: see text] chessboard to construct an [Formula: see text] rectangular chessboard and the closed knight’s tour can be on the surface or within the [Formula: see text] rectangular chessboard. This paper combines these two ideas by stacking [Formula: see text] copies of [Formula: see text] ringboard of width [Formula: see text], which we call the [Formula: see text]-rectangular tube. We explore the existence and the nonexistence of closed knight’s tours for [Formula: see text]-tube and [Formula: see text]-tube.

A Kähler metric [Formula: see text] with integral Kähler form is said to be partially regular if the partial Bergman kernel associated to [Formula: see text] is a positive constant for all integer [Formula: see text] sufficiently large. The aim of this paper is to prove that for all [Formula: see text] there exists an [Formula: see text]-dimensional complex manifold equipped with strictly partially regular and cscK metric [Formula: see text]. Further, for [Formula: see text], the (constant) scalar curvature of [Formula: see text] can be chosen to be zero, positive or negative.

We consider the skew Laplacian matrix of a digraph [Formula: see text] obtained by giving an arbitrary direction to the edges of a graph [Formula: see text] having [Formula: see text] vertices and [Formula: see text] edges. With [Formula: see text] to be the skew Laplacian eigenvalues of [Formula: see text], the skew Laplacian energy [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] is defined as [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we analyze the effect of changing the orientation of an induced subdigraph on the skew Laplacian spectrum. We obtain bounds for the skew Laplacian energy [Formula: see text] in terms of various parameters associated with the digraph [Formula: see text] and the underlying graph [Formula: see text] and we characterize the extremal digraphs attaining these bounds. We also show these bounds improve some known bounds for some families of digraphs. Further, we show the existence of some families of skew Laplacian equienergetic digraphs.

The authors, in 2016, introduced the notion of central autocommutator subgroup of a group [Formula: see text] and proved some new results concerning the central kernel subgroup of [Formula: see text], which was introduced earlier by Haimo in [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we establish some results on central kernel quotient of [Formula: see text]. Finally, we introduce the concept of central autonilpotent (henceforth [Formula: see text]-nilpotent) groups and determine its relationship with the nilpotency of the subgroups of central automorphism of [Formula: see text].

In this paper, we consider the following classes: [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. We show that if [Formula: see text], then [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are greater than [Formula: see text], and if [Formula: see text], then [Formula: see text]. Also, some another interesting properties of the class [Formula: see text] are investigated. Finally, the radius of univalence of 2nd section sum of [Formula: see text] is obtained.

In this paper, we classify all finite groups [Formula: see text], whose [Formula: see text]-absolute central factors are isomorphic to the direct product of cyclic groups, [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. Moreover, we consider finite groups which can be written as the union of centralizers of class preserving automorphisms and study the structure of [Formula: see text] for groups, in which the number of distinct centralizers of class preserving automorphisms is equal to 4 or 5.

In this paper, we present an [Formula: see text]-time algorithm for computing a minimum [Formula: see text]-hop connected dominating set of permutation graphs with [Formula: see text] vertices.

In [Kar, Purkait and Sarkar, Birkhoff center of [Formula: see text]-semiring, Asian-Europ. J. Math. 12(1) (2019) 1950003, 11 pp.], Kar et al. introduced the notion of Birkhoff center of a [Formula: see text]-semiring and obtained some characterizations of this center. In this paper, we study different types of lattice structures of Birkhoff center of a [Formula: see text]-semiring. We also prove that if two [Formula: see text]-semirings are isomorphic, then their Birkhoff centers are isomorphic but the converse is not necessarily true.

The minimum number of colors needed in a sigma coloring of [Formula: see text] is the sigma chromatic number of [Formula: see text], denoted by [Formula: see text] In this paper, we prescribe a sigma coloring of the join of paths and cycles. As a consequence, we determine the sigma chromatic number of the join of a finite number of paths and cycles. A 2-rainbow edge dominating function (2REDF) of a graph [Formula: see text] is a function [Formula: see text] from the edge set [Formula: see text] to the set of all subsets of the set [Formula: see text] such that for any edge [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] the condition [Formula: see text] is fulfilled, where [Formula: see text] is the open neighborhood of [Formula: see text]. The weight of a 2REDF [Formula: see text] is the value [Formula: see text]. The minimum weight of a 2REDF is the 2-rainbow edge domination number of [Formula: see text], denoted by [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we initiate the study of 2-rainbow edge domination in graphs. We present various sharp bounds, exact values and characterizations for the 2-rainbow edge domination number of a graph.

The purpose of this paper is to explore a few properties of polynomial shift-like automorphisms of [Formula: see text] We first prove that a [Formula: see text]-shift-like polynomial map (say [Formula: see text]) degenerates essentially to a polynomial map in [Formula: see text]-dimensions as [Formula: see text] Second, we show that a shift-like map obtained by perturbing a hyperbolic polynomial (i.e. [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is sufficiently small) has finitely many Fatou components, consisting of basins of attraction of periodic points and the component at infinity.

Several known results, by Rivin, Calegari-Maher and Sisto, show that an element $\phi_n\in Out(F_r)$, obtained after $n$ steps of a simple random walk on $Out(F_r)$, is fully irreducible with probability tending to 1 as $n\to\infty$. In this paper we construct a natural "train-track directed" random walk $\mathcal W$ on $Out(F_r)$ (where $r\ge 3$). We show that, for the element $\phi_n\in Out(F_r)$, obtained after $n$ steps of this random walk, with asymptotically positive probability the element $\phi_n$ has the following properties: $\phi_n$ is an ageometric fully irreducible, which admits a train-track representative with no periodic Nielsen paths and exactly one nondegenerate illegal turn, that $\phi_n$ has "rotationless index" $\frac{3}{2}-r$ (so that the geometric index of the attracting tree $T_{\phi_n}$ of $\phi_n$ is $2r-3$), has index list $\{\frac{3}{2}-r\}$ and the ideal Whitehead graph being the complete graph on $2r-1$ vertices, and that the axis bundle of $\phi_n$ in the Outer space $CV_r$ consists of a single axis., Comment: Various small updates, incorporating the referee's comments; to appear in the International Journal of Algebra and Computation

The set of all term equations [Formula: see text], which the graph [Formula: see text] satisfies, is denoted by [Formula: see text]. The class of all graph algebras satisfy all term equations in [Formula: see text] is called the graph variety generated by [Formula: see text] denoted by [Formula: see text]. A term is called a linear term if each variable which occurs in the term, occurs only once. A term equation [Formula: see text] is called a linear term equation if [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are linear terms. This paper is devoted to a thorough investigation of graph varieties defined by linear term equations. In particular, we give a complete description of rooted graphs generating a graph variety described by linear term equations.

In this paper, we present some new sharp bounds on [Formula: see text]. Some of our results improve the previous bounds.

The focus of this paper is to study the two-variable Kauffman polynomials [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], and the one-variable BLM/Ho polynomial [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text]-torus link as the Fibonacci-type polynomials and to express the Kauffman polynomials in terms of the BLM/Ho polynomial. For this purpose, we prove that each of the examined polynomials of [Formula: see text]-torus link can be determined by a third-order recurrence relation and give the recursive properties of them. We correlate these polynomials with the Fibonacci-type polynomials. By using the relations between the BLM/Ho polynomials and Fibonacci-type polynomials, we express the Kauffman polynomials in terms of the BLM/Ho polynomials.
