Thin‐films patterned with complex motifs are of fundamental interest because of their advanced optical, mechanical and electronic properties, but fabrication of these materials remains challenging. Self‐organization strategies, such as immersion controlled reaction‐diffusion patterning, have shown great potential for production of patterned thin‐films. However, the autonomous nature of such processes limits controllable pattern customizability and complexity. Here, it is demonstrated that photography inspired manipulation processes can overcome this limitation to create highly‐complex tapestries of micropatterned films (MPF's). Inspired by classical photographic processes, MPF's are developed, bleached, exposed, fixed, and contoured into user‐defined shapes and photographic toning reactions are used to convert the chemical composition MPF's, while preserving the original stripe patterns. By applying principles of composite photography, highly complex tapestries composed of multiple MPF layers are designed, where each layer can be individually manipulated into a specific shape and composition. By overcoming fundamental limitations, this synergistic approach broadens the design possibilities of reaction‐diffusion processes, furthering the potential of self‐organization strategies for the development of complex materials. The dialectic between micro and macro theoretical perspectives remains a cornerstone in the study of business and social science. As globalization intensifies, these perspectives offer unique but sometimes conflicting views, with macro theories providing panoramic insights and micro theories zooming into nuanced contexts. The dominance of Western‐centric etic theories, though beneficial historically, faces challenges in the evolving tapestry of our interconnected world. Firms today grapple with intricate landscapes influenced by varied cultural, political, and social factors, necessitating more context‐sensitive tools. This article delves into the merits and limitations of both perspectives, advocating for the symbiotic use of micro and macro theories to navigate the complexities of today's globalized business environment. By nurturing both theoretical paradigms, we pave the way for a richer, more holistic understanding of modern‐day challenges and opportunities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A recent study published in the Journal of Diabetes Investigation explored the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The study analyzed genetic data from 450,000 individuals of European ancestry and identified 160 genetic loci associated with fitness. Using a Mendelian randomization framework, the study found that higher genetically predicted fitness is causally associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, independent of adiposity. The study also integrated proteomic data to identify potential mediators of this relationship. The findings highlight the importance of improving fitness for the prevention of diabetes. However, it is important to note that the study had limitations, including selection bias in fitness measurement and a lack of diversity in the study population. Additionally, the study did not include direct intervention through randomized controlled trials, which limits the ability to establish a definitive causal link between fitness and diabetes risk. This paper applies the Material Science Tetrahedron concept to explore practices of pottery recycling in selected craft activities performed in first and second millennium CE southern Africa. It combines analyses of pottery decorative style on vessels and their fragments used for metal processing with fabric inclusion mineralogy and chemical composition to show that recycling was a sociotechnical endeavour integral to making and remaking everyday things in society. Recycling weaved, along the chaîne opératoire, tapestries of materialities formed by and flowing from relationships between crafting, materials, containers, and humans as part of daily routines of making, provisioning, and consumption. Finite element generated synthetic image deformation is used to assess factors affecting the reliability and accuracy of strain fields measured by the DIC technique, when using the inherent historical tapestry image to track deformations. Compared with direct correlation with the reference image, incremental correlation is found to introduce accumulated error and is less suitable for DIC analysis under low strains. Image quality, for example, variation in resolution, is demonstrated to strongly affect DIC performance. Finally, it is recommended that an iterative approach is required to determine the optimum subset and strain filter size for effective DIC analysis using inherent tapestry patterns, especially at low strain levels. For the first time in more than 400 years, one of the most prestigious cycles of canvas paintings ever conceived was reassembled: half a dozen dazzling visualisations of Ovidian themes, called I poesie i by Titian himself and sent to Philip of Spain over the span of nine years, from 1553 to 1562, plus a seventh picture, the National Gallery's own I Death of Actaeon i , which was planned to be part of the cycle, but was never delivered. Was Titian's I Perseus and Andromeda i intended, then, as a deliberately ambiguous, "diplomatic" painting, which did not just praise the royal marriage but cautiously addressed the more recent issue of the "Marian Martyrs", thus inviting Philip to intervene? Over the time and in conversation with others, might Philip, thus visually "trained" by Titian, have detected something displeasing in I Perseus and Andromeda i , which incited him to part with that picture? Working on the picture that was supposed to praise Philip's marriage with Mary Tudor, Titian had to confront what seemed to be the fatal outcome of an alliance never wanted by the Venetian State and actively undermined by (among others) a Marian exile with whom the artist was personally acquainted. Aubusson (France) has been inscribed on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 2009 for its centuries‐old tradition for the art of tapestry. The present study concerns one of these "Grand teint" tapestries, a Verdure with Count von Brühl's coat of arms (18th C.), characterized by very high‐quality dyeing and fine weaving. The restoration in progress allowed the removal of the lining of the back, which protected the colour from light. Hyperspectral imagery and μ‐spectrofluorimetry made on each side of the tapestry showed the influence of natural degradation of dyes. Experimental tests carried out model samples artificially aged, allowed us a better understanding of these observations. The fibers (silk and wool) and dyes (weld, ...) were identified and the roles of alum and tartar as mordants were questioned. Our work revealed the action of the recipe on the photodegradation rate and the effect of aging on the spectra's shape for yellow dyes and the disappearance of some compounds, such as chlorophyll "a," as a marker of the degradation. SUPPLY chain management ,COVID-19 pandemic ,FOOD supply ,INTERNATIONAL relief ,TAPESTRY - Abstract
The COVID‐19 crisis quickly drew attention to shortages of critical supplies in complex, global healthcare, and food supply chains, despite emergency and pandemic plans existing in many countries. Borders and factories closed through lockdowns and slowly reopened under different working arrangements, causing supply chains to struggle to respond to this global crisis, with severe impact on GDPs internationally. Ironically, despite global communications technologies, global political structures, and the immense capability of humans, the only true global actor in this crisis is a virus, one of the simplest, most dependent forms of life. Supply chain management research and practice contains threads of knowledge and understanding that are vital to mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery in global crises; we just have not woven them together yet. This essay proposes a more interconnected approach to supply chain management to tackle these current and future global crises, weaving together understanding of supply markets, public procurement, humanitarian aid supply chain management, network and systems thinking, and global stewardship, with the more traditional conceptualizations of firm‐based supply chain management. Questions are posed to illustrate current discontinuous wefts of knowledge to explore how weaving a more interconnected, systems thinking‐based approach to supply chain management might stimulate research to support coordination of future global supply preparedness. HOME hemodialysis , *CHRONIC kidney failure , *TAPESTRY , *INCENTIVE (Psychology) , *CURRICULUM - Abstract
Home dialysis use as a treatment for end‐stage kidney disease varies locally, nationally, and internationally. There is a call to action in the United States to significantly increase access and uptake of home dialysis as the preferred dialysis treatment option. Although most do not object to patient choice in modality selection, the reality is that there are multilevel barriers both obvious and subtle that interfere with expanding home dialysis access. Financial barriers and how payment is structured continue to be key drivers, although new models of care are emerging that include for the first time incentives rather than penalties regarding home dialysis. Resources to support implementation include expert personnel requiring educational training. Policies requiring training curriculum content that is not only specified within nephrology but also for these multidisciplinary providers requisite for successful home dialysis to ensure professional expertise is ready and available, and also to cultivate champions of home modality within the broader nephrology community. Perhaps most importantly, innovation through expanded investment in research is necessary to advance practices, elevate quality, and improve outcomes. Policy in a variety of sectors at local, regional, national, and international levels has the potential to drastically drive expansion and increasing success of home dialysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In "A Virtue Ethics Critique of Ethical Dimensions of Behavioral Economics," Professor Daryl Koehn criticizes the field of behavioral economics. She argues that behavioral economists ignore many important factors that affect how people make decisions, that their results are derived from experiments where subjects make choices in overly restrictive, artificial, and thin contexts that do not capture the richness of reality, and that the approach brings up psychological motivations that affect behavior in a piecemeal, ad hoc way that does not capture the overall tapestry of the factors that influence the choices that we make. In this comment, I offer responses to many of these criticisms, and note where I think we have common ground. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TAPESTRY - Abstract
The tapestry series of the 'Defeat of the Spanish Armada' was a national artistic treasure which hung in the old Palace of Westminster from the mid 17th century until the fire of 1834. This article outlines the creation of the tapestries in the 1590s and covers the major treatments of them in illustrations of parliamentary interiors and in John Pine's 1739 engravings; it ends with a short account of the curious episode of the tapestry which escaped the conflagration. In the absence of any known historical record of how the tapestries were displayed, suggestions are offered about how many and in what order they hung in the two chambers occupied successively by the house of lords (before and after 1801), and about how they were physically supported on the walls of the Parliament Chamber. Digital image correlation (DIC) is used to monitor strain in a representative textile material and an historic tapestry. The validity of a ‘map function’ that allows 3D DIC displacement measurements to be obtained when the reference data are collected with a camera set-up different from that of the deformed data is assessed. An experiment was devised to study the effects of DIC processing parameters (interrogation cell size and overlap) on strain measurements, and to investigate if the textile contains adequate contrast for DIC to operate. The study shows that the textile’s weave pattern can be used as the device for correlation. Long-term tests for monitoring creep strain using DIC both in the laboratory and in situ are presented. The results show good correspondence between strain changes in the tapestry and relative humidity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL image correlation , *TAPESTRY , *HETEROGENEITY , *FINITE element method , *DEFORMATIONS (Mechanics) - Abstract
An analysis technique to assess the viability of digital image correlation (DIC) in tracking the full‐field strains across the surface of hanging historic tapestries is presented. Measurement uncertainty related to the use of the inherent tapestry image in tracking displacements is investigated through use of "synthetic" deformation fields. The latter are generated by mapping the details of a given tapestry image into finite element analyses. The combination of self‐weight loading, material non‐linearity, and image specific heterogeneity (related to slit stitching, damage, and patch‐restorations) serve to generate a bespoke deformation field complex enough to assess the reliability of DIC measurements. Accuracy is evaluated by comparing measured results with the original known deformations. The technique demonstrates that the optimum imaging settings and the choice of subset size for DIC analysis are strongly influenced by the tapestry image and the goal of the measurement, they are found using a compromise between conflicting objectives: minimising measurement error while maximising resolution.
