SUMMARY: Ear length (EL) is a key trait that greatly contributes to yield in maize. Although dozens of EL quantitative trait loci have been mapped, very few causal genes have been cloned, and the molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. Our previous study showed that YIGE1 is involved in sugar and auxin pathways to regulate ear inflorescence meristem (IM) development and thus affects EL in maize. Here, we reveal that YIGE2, the paralog of YIGE1, regulates maize ear development and EL through auxin pathway. Knockout of YIGE2 causes a significant decrease of auxin level, IM length, floret number, EL, and grain yield. yige1 yige2 double mutants had even shorter IM and ears implying that these two genes redundantly regulate IM development and EL. The genes controlling auxin levels are differential expressed in yige1 yige2 double mutants, leading to lower auxin level. These results elucidated the critical role of YIGE2 and the redundancy between YIGE2 and YIGE1 in maize ear development, providing a new genetic resource for maize yield improvement. Objective: To reveal the overall sperm retrieval rate (SRR) and range in patients with azoospermia factor c (AZFc) microdeletion azoospermia by microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) and discuss the differences of preoperative patient factors among studies with various SRRs. Patients and Methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science and Embase until February 2023. All studies reporting SRRs by mTESE and required parameters of patients with AZFc microdeletions were included. The primary outcome was the SRR and, if available, the pregnancy rate (PR) and live‐birth rate (LBR) after intracytoplasmic sperm injection were also investigated as secondary outcomes. Results: Eventually 11 cohort studies were included in this review. A total number of 441 patients underwent mTESE and in 275 of them sperm was obtained, reaching an overall SRR of 62.4%. The SRRs among studies had a wide range from 25.0% to 85.7%. The studies reporting higher SRRs generally had older mean ages, and higher follicle‐stimulating hormone and testosterone levels. Only four studies provided practical data on pregnancies and live‐born children of patients with AZFc microdeletions, so the overall PR and LBR were unavailable. Shame has an important impact on the mental health and quality of life of patients. The shame in patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy remains unclear. This survey aimed to evaluate the status quo and influencing factors of shame in patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy, to provide support for the clinical care. Patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy treated in the wound stomy clinic of a third‐class hospital from 1 June 2022 to 31 July 2023 were included. General data questionnaire and social impact scale (SIS) were used for data collection. Univariate and multiple linear regression analysis were performed to evaluate the influencing factors of shame in patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy. One hundred and sixty four patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy were included. The total score of shame in patients with ureterostomy was (60.75 ± 6.31), which was in the high level. Age (r = 0.442), home place (r = 0.427), per capita monthly household income (r = 0.605), self‐care ability (r = 0.597) and complications of stoma (r = 0.542) were correlated with the SIS score in patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy (all p < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analyses indicated that age, home place, per capita monthly household income, self‐care ability and complications of stoma were the influencing factors of SIS score in patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy (all p < 0.05). The five variables explained 64.5% of the patients' sense of shame variation. Patients with ureterostomy after cystectomy have a serious sense of shame in the early stage after operation and there are many influencing factors. Background: From the beginning of the COVID‐19 pandemic until mid‐October 2020, Malaysia recorded ~15,000 confirmed cases. But there could be undiagnosed cases due mainly to asymptomatic infections. Seroprevalence studies can better quantify underlying infection from SARS‐CoV‐2 by identifying humoral antibodies against the virus. This study was the first to determine the prevalence of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection in Malaysia's general population, as well as the proportion of asymptomatic and undiagnosed infections. Methods: This cross‐sectional seroprevalence study with a two‐stage stratified random cluster sampling design included 5,131 representative community dwellers in Malaysia aged ≥1 year. Data collection lasted from 7 August to 11 October 2020 involving venous blood sampling and interviews for history of COVID‐19 symptoms and diagnosis. Previous SARS‐CoV‐2 infection was defined as screened positive using the Wantai SARS‐CoV‐2 Total Antibody enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay and confirmed positive using the GenScript SARS‐CoV‐2 surrogate Virus Neutralization Test. We performed a complex sampling design analysis, calculating sample weights considering probabilities of selection, non‐response rate and post‐stratification weight. Results: The overall weighted prevalence of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection was 0.49% (95%CI 0.28–0.85) (N = 150,857). Among the estimated population with past infection, around 84.1% (95%CI 58.84–95.12) (N = 126 826) were asymptomatic, and 90.1% (95%CI 67.06–97.58) (N = 135 866) were undiagnosed. Conclusions: Our study revealed a low pre‐variant and pre‐vaccination seroprevalence of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection in Malaysia up to mid‐October 2020, with a considerable proportion of asymptomatic and undiagnosed cases. Lung cancer is the most aggressive cancer with the highest mortality and incidence rates worldwide. MicroRNAs have been identified as potential targets for non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. However, the modulatory role of miR‐514b‐5p in NSCLC progression is little known. In the present study, miRNA expression datasets for NSCLC were downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Ontology Omnibus databases. Gene expression was assessed using a quantitative real‐time PCR, and western blot analysis and immunohistochemical staining was used to determine protein expression. Gain and loss of function experiments were performed to investigate the impact of miR‐514b‐5p and small glutamine‐rich tetratricopeptide repeat‐containing protein beta (SGTB) on cell proliferation and apoptosis. RNA immunoprecipitation and dual‐luciferase assays were performed to analyse the target gene of miR‐514b‐5p. The biological roles of miR‐514b‐5p were lastly evaluated using nude mouse tumorigenicity assays in vivo. We found that miR‐514b‐5p was dramatically increased in NSCLC tissues and higher miR‐514b‐5p expression was associated with poorer overall survival in NSCLC patients. Furthermore, overexpression of miR‐514b‐5p promoted NSCLC cell growth and suppressed apoptosis by inducing the activation of the phosphatidylinositol‐3‐kinase (PI3K)/AKT and p38 signalling pathways. Mechanistically, dual‐luciferase and the RNA immunoprecipitation results highlighted that SGTB was a target gene of miR‐514b‐5p. Moreover, overexpression of SGTB reduced cell division and promoted apoptosis in vitro through blocking the PI3K/AKT and p38 signalling pathways. Our findings indicated that miR‐514b‐5p contributes to carcinoma progression in NSCLC via the PI3K/AKT and p38 signalling pathways by targeting SGTB and this could be a promising diagnostic and therapeutic target for the treatment of NSCLC. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and dementia cause heavy health burden in mainland China, where few studies have investigated the association between glucose‐lowering agents and dementia risk. We aimed to assess the association between use of thiazolidinediones (TZDs) and dementia incidence in a mainland Chinese population with T2DM. Methods: A retrospective cohort of T2DM patients who were new users of TZDs or alpha glucosidase inhibitors (AGIs) was assembled using the Yinzhou Regional Health Care Database. A Cox model with inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) for controlling potential founding was applied to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) of the association between use of TZDs and dementia risk. Results: A total of 49 823 new users of AGIs and 12 752 new users of TZDs were included in the final cohort. In the primary analysis, the incidence of dementia was 195.7 and 78.2 per 100 000 person‐years in users of AGIs and TZDs respectively. TZD use was associated with a reduced risk of incident dementia after adjusting for potential confounding using IPTW, with a HR of 0.51 (95% CI, 0.38–0.67). The results in various subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were consistent with the findings of the primary analysis. As a class of widely used biocatalysts, enzymes possess advantages including high catalytic efficiency, strong specificity and mild reaction condition. However, most free enzymes have high requirements on the reaction environment and are easy to deactivate. Immobilization of enzymes on nanomaterial‐based substrates is a good way to solve this problem. Metal‐organic framework (MOFs), with ultra‐high specific surface area and adjustable porosity, can provide a large space to carry enzymes. And the tightly surrounded protective layer of MOFs can stabilize the enzyme structure to a great extent. In addition, the unique porous network structure enables selective mass transfer of substrates and facilitates catalytic processes. Therefore, these enzyme‐immobilized MOFs have been widely used in various research fields, such as molecule/biomolecule sensing and imaging, disease treatment, energy and environment protection. Cu‐based metal–organic frameworks have attracted much attention for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction, but they are generally instable and difficult to control the product selectivity. We report flexible Cu(I) triazolate frameworks as efficient, stable, and tunable electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction to C2H4/CH4. By changing the size of ligand side groups, the C2H4/CH4 selectivity ratio can be gradually tuned and inversed from 11.8 : 1 to 1 : 2.6, giving C2H4, CH4, and hydrocarbon selectivities up to 51 %, 56 %, and 77 %, respectively. After long‐term electrocatalysis, they can retain the structures/morphologies without formation of Cu‐based inorganic species. Computational simulations showed that the coordination geometry of Cu(I) changed from triangular to tetrahedral to bind the reaction intermediates, and two adjacent Cu(I) cooperated for C−C coupling to form C2H4. Importantly, the ligand side groups controlled the catalyst flexibility by the steric hindrance mechanism, and the C2H4 pathway is more sensitive than the CH4 one. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) contributes to overall tumor progression. In the current survey, we explored the ability of microRNA‐20a (miR‐20a) within these CAF‐derived exosomes to influence non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression. Materials and methods: Normal tissue‐associated fibroblasts (NAFs) and CAFs were collected from samples of NSCLC patient tumors and paracancerous lung tissues. Exosomes derived from these cells were then characterized via Western blotting, nanoparticle tracking analyses, and transmission electron microscopy. The expression of miR‐20a was assessed via qPCR and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). CCK‐8, EdU uptake, and colony formation assessments were used for evaluating tumor proliferation, while Hoechst staining was performed to monitor the in vitro apoptotic death of tumor cells. A model of xenograft tumor established in nude mice was also used to evaluate in vivo tumor responses. Results: CAF‐derived exosomes exhibited miR‐20a upregulation and promoted NSCLC cell proliferation and resistance to cisplatin (DDP). Mechanistically, CAF‐derived exosomes were discovered to transmit miR‐20a to tumor cells wherein it was able to target PTEN to enhance DDP resistance and proliferation. Associated PTEN downregulation following exosome‐derived miR‐20a treatment enhanced PI3K/AKT pathway activation. Conclusion: The achieved outcomes explain that CAFs can release miR‐20a‐containing exosomes capable of promoting NSCLC progression and chemoresistance, highlighting this pathway as a possible therapeutic target in NSCLC. Background: ADAM‐like decysin‐1 (ADAMDEC1) has been reported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of multiple diseases, including cancers. However, its biological role in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains largely unknown. Here, we aimed to investigate the biological functions and potential mechanism of ADAMDEC1 in NSCLC. Methods: We verified ADAMDEC1 as a DEG by a comprehensive strategy of TCGA and GEO datasets miming and computational biology. Relative levels of ADAMDEC1 in NSCLC tissues and the adjacent peritumoral tissues were identified by qRT‐PCR, WB and IHC staining. The biological function of ADAMDEC1 was determined by CCK8, EdU, colony formation assay, apoptosis, wound healing migration and transwell invasion assays. Then, an in vivo tumor formation assay was conducted to explore the effects of ADAMDEC1 on tumor growth. Results: The mRNA and protein expression levels of ADAMDEC1 were upregulated in NSCLC tissues and cell lines. ADAMDEC1 expression was associated with clinicopathological characteristics and overall survival of patients with NSCLC. Knockdown of ADAMDEC1 could decrease proliferation and colony forming ability of NSCLC cells, and promoted cell apoptosis, whereas ADAMDEC11 overexpression has opposite effects in NSCLC cells both in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, we identified ADAMDEC1 accelerates NSCLC progression via activation of the PI3K/ AKT pathway. Conclusion: We verified that ADAMDEC1 promotes the progression of NSCLC via the PI3K/AKT pathway. These findings showed the potential of ADAMDEC1 to be used for therapeutic approaches in NSCLC. Background: This study aimed to investigate whether human periodontal ligament (PDL) cells secrete pro-angiogenic factors that induce the vascularization of surrounding bone tissue under tensile stress.Methods: Quantitative real-time PCR and Western blotting were used to analyze the mRNA and protein expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), Angiopoietin-I (Ang-I), connective tissue growth factor （CTGF）, and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) in PDL cells after tensile force treatments of different durations. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure the VEGF concentration in the supernatants of cell cultures. Cell viability assay, wound healing assay, and tube formation assay were performed to evaluate the angiogenic behaviors of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).Results: The mRNA expression and protein expression of VEGF, bFGF, Ang-I, and M-CSF was increased in the cells that received 6 to 48 hours of tensile force treatment. And, the VEGF level in the supernatant significantly increased in the human PDL cell cultures stressed for 6 to 48 hours. The abilities of HUVECs to proliferate, migrate, and form tubes were enhanced in media conditioned with tensile-stressed human PDL cells. Hence, tensile force induced human PDL cells to express and release pro-angiogenic factors enhancing the proliferation, migration, and angiogenic capacity of HUVECs.Conclusion: Tensile stress induced human PDL cells to express and release pro-angiogenic factors, including VEGF, bFGF, Ang-I, and M-CSF, thereby enhancing the proliferation, migration, and angiogenic capacity of HUVECs. In emergency situation, mass panic often causes more causalities than the disaster itself. The crowd emotional model could be used to simulate how crowd behavior in emergency scenarios and be helpful for developing crowd evacuation plans in emergency situations. However, existing crowd emotional models usually set model parameters in an empirical manner and are not validated by real cases. In this paper, a crowd emotional model is proposed to simulate the crowd movement in outdoor emergency situations. First of all, the crowd entropy and the movement difference are proposed to describe the emotional impact of the crowd scene on the agents. The perception of vision and hearing are considered, and the calculation formulas of the agent's emotional intensity and crowd emotional contagion are proposed. By calculating individual trajectories in the real video, the cumulative differences between the movements of the real crowd and the corresponding virtual crowd are analyzed. At last, a multi‐parameter optimization method is implemented by the differential evolution algorithm. To verify the parameters in models, three videos which are generated from three real cases, including explosion attack, shooting incident, and crowd disturbance are selected for experimental verification. Chiral cyclohexanediamine was chemically bonded to β‐cyclodextrin as an inducer to induce the asymmetric reduction of ketoesters under electrochemical conditions. The reaction was carried out in an undivided glass cell to form the optically active products. The whole experiment was carried out under mild conditions without high temperature and high pressure. A novel three‐dimensional (3D) ZnII coordination polymer, namely, poly[[[1,4‐bis(pyridin‐4‐yl)benzene](μ3‐3,3′‐{[1,3‐phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(oxy)}dibenzoato)zinc(II)] 1,4‐bis(pyridin‐4‐yl)benzene], {[Zn(C22H16O6)(C16H12N2)]·C16H12N2}n or {[Zn(PMBD)(DPB)]·DPB}n, 1, where H2PMBD is 3,3′‐{[1,3‐phenylenebis(methylene)]bis(oxy)}dibenzoic acid and DPB is 1,4‐bis(pyridin‐4‐yl)benzene, has been synthesized by self‐assembly using zinc nitrate, a semi‐rigid dicarboxylic acid and a nitrogen‐containing ligand. The single‐crystal X‐ray structure determination indicates that 1 possesses an intriguing 3D architecture with a 4‐connected uninodal cds topology, which is constructed from dinuclear {Zn2} clusters and V‐shaped PMBD2− linkers. Purpose To explore treatment patterns among patients with prostate cancer and bone metastasis and to compare clinical outcomes following use of different hormone therapies including combined androgen blockade (CAB), nonsteroidal antiandrogen (NSAA) monotherapy, and castration monotherapy. Methods: We conducted a population‐based cohort study using data from the Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance database (2011‐2014) in Beijing. We identified 475 patients with newly diagnosed bone metastatic prostate cancer with at least one prescription for hormone therapy and described their treatment patterns over a median follow‐up of 20.7 months. Cox proportional hazards model was used to compare time to chemotherapy initiation between patients starting on different hormone therapies. Results: Hormone therapy and/or bisphosphonate therapy with zoledronic acid were the initial treatments in the majority of patients (87.8%); chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery were usually given later in the treatment pathway. CAB was the most common hormone treatment (73.7%). For time to chemotherapy initiation, hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) were 2.43 (1.08‐5.44) for NSAA alone vs CAB and 1.29 (0.78‐2.13) for castration alone vs CAB. Conclusions: Our findings show that while a wide range of therapies are used to treat patients with prostate cancer and bone metastasis in Beijing, hormone therapy and bisphosphonate therapy are the most commonly prescribed, and use of CAB was seen to be advantageous in delaying time to chemotherapy initiation over NSAA monotherapy. Abstract: As food additives, titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) have been widely used in various products that are usually simultaneously consumed with a high content of sugar, thus necessitating research on the effect of TiO2 NPs on glucose homeostasis. We conducted an animal study to explore the effect of orally administrated TiO2 NPs on glucose absorption and metabolism in rats at 0, 2, 10 and 50 mg kg–1 body weight day–1 for 30 and 90 days. The results showed that oral exposure to TiO2 NPs caused a slight and temporary hypoglycemic effect in rats at 30 days post‐exposure but recovered at 90 days post‐exposure. Decreased levels of intestinal glucose absorption and increased levels of hepatic glucose metabolism may be responsible for the hypoglycemic effect. Remodeling of the villi in the small intestine that decreased the surface area available for glucose absorption and increased levels of hepatic glucose uptake, utilization and storage related to hepatocellular injury are supposed to be the mechanisms. Silicon, the second abundant element in the crust, is beneficial for plant growth, mechanical strength, and stress responses. Here we show that manipulation of the non-specific phospholipase C1, NPC1, alters silicon content in nodes and husks of rice ( Oryza sativa). Silicon content in NPC1-overexpressing ( OE) plants was decreased in nodes but increased in husks compared to wild-type, whereas RNAi suppression of NPC1 resulted in the opposite changes to those of NPC1- OE plants. NPC1 from rice hydrolyzed phospholipids and galactolipids to generate diacylglycerol that can be phosphorylated to phosphatidic acid. Phosphatidic acid interacts with Lsi6, a silicon transporter that is expressed at the highest level in nodes. In addition, the node cells of NPC1- OE plants have lower contents of cellulose and hemicellulose, and thinner sclerenchyma and vascular bundle fibre cells than wild-type plants; whereas NPC1- RNAi plants displayed the opposite changes. These data indicate that NPC1 modulates silicon distribution and secondary cell wall deposition in nodes and grains, affecting mechanical strength and seed shattering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim To compare the performance of search strategies to retrieve systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy from The Cochrane Library. Methods Databases of Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Cochrane Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects in the Cochrane Library were searched for systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy published between 2008 and 2012 through nine search strategies. Each strategy consists of one group or combination of groups of searching filters about diagnostic test accuracy. Four groups of diagnostic filters were used. The strategy combing all the filters was used as the reference to determine the sensitivity, precision, and the sensitivity × precision product for another eight strategies. Results The reference strategy retrieved 8029 records, of which 832 were eligible. The strategy only composed of MeSH terms about 'accuracy measures' achieved the highest values in both precision (69.71%) and product (52.45%) with a moderate sensitivity (75.24%). The combination of MeSH terms and free text words about 'accuracy measures' contributed little to increasing the sensitivity. Strategies composed of filters about 'diagnosis' had similar sensitivity but lower precision and product to those composed of filters about 'accuracy measures.' MeSH term 'exp'diagnosis'' achieved the lowest precision (9.78%) and product (7.91%), while its hyponym retrieved only half the number of records at the expense of missing 53 target articles. The precision was negatively correlated with sensitivities among the nine strategies. Conclusions Compared to the filters about 'diagnosis,' the filters about 'accuracy measures' achieved similar sensitivities but higher precision. When combining both terms, sensitivity of the strategy was enhanced obviously. The combination of MeSH terms and free text words about the same concept seemed to be meaningless for enhancing sensitivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Energies for the multiexcited states 1s22s2pnl and 1s22p2nl 4 Pe,o ( n ≥ 2) of B-like oxygen are calculated using Rayleigh-Ritz variation method with configuration interaction. The mass polarization and relativistic corrections are obtained with first-order perturbation theory. Configuration structures of the high-lying multiexcited series are identified by energies and contribution to normalization of angular-spin components. These structures are further checked by calculations of relativistic corrections and fine structure splittings. Hyperfine parameters and hyperfine coupling constants are calculated for the first time. Wavelengths including quantum electrodynamic effect and higher-order relativistic corrections and lifetimes are also calculated. The variational method with mutilconfiguration interaction wave function is used to obtain the energies, fine structures, and hyperfine structures of high-lying core-excited quartet states 1s2lnl' 4Po(m) (m = 1–5) and 1s2pnp 4P(m) (m = 1–5) in Li-like N4+ and F6+ ions, including the mass polarization and relativistic corrections. Restricted variational method is carried out to extrapolate a better energy. The oscillator strengths, lifetime, wavelengths, fine structure, and hyperfine structure for this system are also investigated to compare with other theoretical and experimental data in the literature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
