Employers face many dilemmas in effectively implementing work–life flexibility to support employees' personal lives. A key issue is that some employees hold jobs with limited opportunities for work–life flexibility, making them susceptible to burnout; yet most employers believe they can do little to mitigate this dynamic. Furthermore, even when employees hold jobs with greater access to work–life flexibility, some do not take advantage of their flexibility to more fully engage in work and/or home roles. These issues are further exacerbated when supervisors are unsure of their role in supporting work–life flexibility. We identify work–life supportive context as a key factor that provides solutions to these dilemmas. Drawing on job demands resources theory, we posit that, when organizations provide work–life supportive training to supervisors, it promotes a work–life supportive context (i.e., signaling that the organization is supportive of employees' managing their work–life interface), which mitigates burnout for those with limited work–life flexibility and promotes engagement in work and home roles for those with greater work–life flexibility. Results from a year‐long randomized field experiment suggest that, in contexts with trained supervisors and lower employee control over work schedules and boundaries (i.e., lower work–life flexibility), emotional exhaustion is reduced. In contexts with trained supervisors and higher employee control over work boundaries (i.e., higher work–life flexibility), family engagement increases. Surprisingly, irrespective of job access to work‐life flexibility, supervisor participation in work–life support training did not enhance employee work engagement. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation post‐allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (post‐alloHCT) increases morbidity and mortality. We sought to determine the frequency of CMV seroconversion in patients pre‐alloHCT and to investigate the impact on posttransplant outcomes. We retrospectively investigated 752 adult patients who underwent alloHCT at our center from January 2015 to February 2020 before the adoption of letermovir prophylaxis. CMV serology was assessed at consult and pretransplant. The cohort was divided into four groups based on pretransplant CMV seroconversion: negative to positive (Group 1), positive to negative (Group 2), consistently negative (Group 3), and consistently positive (Group 4). Eighty‐nine patients (12%) had seroconverted from negative to positive, 17 (2%) from positive to negative, 151 (20%) were consistently seronegative, and 495 (66%) were consistently seropositive pretransplant. For the four CMV serostatus groups, cumulative incidence of CMV reactivation at 6 months posttransplant was 4.5%, 47.1%, 6.6%, and 76.6% for Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively (p <.0001). No differences between groups were seen regarding Grade III–IV acute graft‐versus‐host disease (GVHD) (p =.91), moderate/severe chronic GVHD (p =.41), or graft failure (p =.28). On multivariable analysis, there was no impact of CMV serostatus group on overall survival (p =.67), cumulative incidence of relapse (p =.83) or non‐relapse mortality. alloHCT patients who demonstrate CMV seroconversion pretransplant from negative to positive have a very low risk of CMV reactivation posttransplant. The observed seroconversion may be due to passive CMV immunity acquired through blood products. Quantitative CMV immunoglobulin G/immunoglobulin M pretransplant may help differentiate between true seroconversion and passively transmitted CMV immunoglobulin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exposure to pesticides is one potential factor contributing to the recent loss of pollinators and pollinator diversity. Few studies have specifically focused on the relationship between pesticide management during ornamental plant production and contamination of nectar. We evaluated contamination of nectar in Salvia ‘Indigo Spires’ (Salvia longispicata M. Martens & Galeotti × S. farinacea Benth.) associated with applications of the systemic insecticide thiamethoxam, and the nonsystemic fungicides boscalid and pyraclostrobin. Applications were made at the labeled rates for the commercially available products, and we compared the influence of application method (drench vs. spray), timing (relative to flowering), and rate (low vs. high) for each pesticide. Nectar was sampled using 50‐µL microcapillary tubes and analyzed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. The results indicate that concentrations from the spray application resulted in the least contamination of nectar with the systemic thiamethoxam, with lower concentrations occurring when thiamethoxam was applied before blooming at the lowest rate. Concentrations of thiamethoxam and its metabolite clothianidin were detected in nectar in all treatments (regardless of the method, timing, or rate of application), and ranged from 3.6 ± 0.5 ng/mL (spray‐applied before blooming, low rate) to 1720.0 ± 80.9 ng/mL (drench‐applied after blooming, high rate). Residues of clothianidin in nectar ranged from below quantification limits (spray‐applied before blooming, low rate) to 81.2 ± 4.6 ng/mL (drench‐applied after blooming, high rate). Drench applications resulted in the highest levels of nectar contamination with thiamethoxam, and exceeded published median lethal concentrations (LC50s/median lethal doses for native bees and/or honeybees in all cases). Spray treatments resulted in nectar concentrations exceeding published LC50s for some bee species. In comparison, all nonsystemic treatments resulted in concentrations much lower than the published no‐observable‐effect doses and sublethal toxicity values, indicating low risks of toxicity. Introduction: Contrary to stereotypes, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are more likely to abstain from drinking than other Australians. We explored characteristics and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who do not drink alcohol. Method: We conducted a cross‐sectional, representative survey of 775 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians (16+ years) in remote and urban South Australia. We explore correlates of not drinking alcohol using multi‐level logistic regression. We describe reasons for non‐drinking and harms participants experienced in past 12 months from others' drinking. Results: Non‐drinking participants were more likely to be older (OR 1.35 [95% CI 1.21, 1.50] per decade) and unemployed (OR 2.72 [95% CI 1.77, 4.20]). Participants who spoke Aboriginal Australian languages at home were three times more likely to be lifetime abstainers from drinking (OR 3.07 [95% CI 1.52, 6.21]). Common reasons for not drinking alcohol were health and family. Most did not report harms from others' alcohol consumption (79.6%, 76.9%, urban and remote respectively). Stress from others' alcohol consumption was the most reported harm by non‐drinkers (14.5% and 23.1%, urban and remote, respectively). Discussion and Conclusions: Culture such as speaking Aboriginal Australian languages might have protective effects that promote abstaining but was rarely explicitly cited as a reason for not drinking. A greater understanding of local values held by people who do not drink alcohol could help inform health messaging and other interventions to reduce alcohol‐related harms. Issues Addressed Methods Results Conclusions So What? Addressing the disproportionate burden of type 2 diabetes prevalence in Aboriginal communities is critical. Current literature on diabetes care for Aboriginal people is primarily focused on remote demographics and overwhelmingly dominated by Western biomedical models and deficit paradigms. This qualitative research project adopted a strengths‐based approach to explore the barriers and enablers to diabetes care for Aboriginal people on Ngarrindjeri Country in rural South Australia.Knowledge Interface methodology guided the research as Aboriginal and Western research methods were drawn upon. Data collection occurred using three yarning sessions held on Ngarrindjeri Country. Yarns were transcribed and deidentified before a qualitative thematic analysis was conducted, guided by Dadirri and a constructivist approach to grounded theory.A total of 15 participants attended the yarns. Major barriers identified by participants were underscored by the ongoing impacts of colonisation. This was combated by a current of survival as participants identified enablers to diabetes care, namely a history of healthy community, working at the knowledge interface, motivators for action, and an abundance of community skills and leadership.Despite the raft of barriers detailed by participants throughout the diabetes care journey, Aboriginal people on Ngarrindjeri Country were found to be uniquely positioned to address diabetes prevalence and management.Health promotion efforts with Aboriginal people on Ngarrindjeri Country must acknowledge the sustained impacts of colonisation, while building on the abundance of community enablers, skills and strengths. Terrestrial groundwater travels through subterranean estuaries before reaching the sea. Groundwater‐derived nutrients drive coastal water quality, primary production, and eutrophication. We determined how dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP), and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) are transformed within subterranean estuaries and estimated submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) nutrient loads compiling > 10,000 groundwater samples from 216 sites worldwide. Nutrients exhibited complex, nonconservative behavior in subterranean estuaries. Fresh groundwater DIN and DIP are usually produced, and DON is consumed during transport. Median total SGD (saline and fresh) fluxes globally were 5.4, 2.6, and 0.18 Tmol yr−1 for DIN, DON, and DIP, respectively. Despite large natural variability, total SGD fluxes likely exceed global riverine nutrient export. Fresh SGD is a small source of new nutrients, but saline SGD is an important source of mostly recycled nutrients. Nutrients exported via SGD via subterranean estuaries are critical to coastal biogeochemistry and a significant nutrient source to the oceans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To establish the criterion‐assessed energy and fluid requirements of female netball players, 13 adult players from a senior Netball Super League squad were assessed over 14 days in a cross‐sectional design, representing a two‐ and one‐match microcycle, respectively. Total energy expenditure (TEE) and water turnover (WT) were measured by doubly labeled water. Resting and activity energy expenditure were measured by indirect calorimetry and Actiheart, respectively. Mean 14‐day TEE was 13.46 ± 1.20 MJ day−1 (95% CI, 12.63–14.39 MJ day−1). Resting energy expenditure was 6.53 ± 0.60 MJ day−1 (95% CI, 6.17–6.89 MJ day−1). Physical activity level was 2.07 ± 0.19 arbitrary units (AU) (95% CI, 1.95–2.18 AU). Mean WT was 4.1 ± 0.9 L day−1 (95% CI, 3.6–4.7 L day−1). Match days led to significantly greater TEE than training (+2.85 ± 0.70 MJ day−1; 95% CI, +1.00– +4.70 MJ day−1; p = 0.002) and rest (+4.85 ± 0.70 MJ day−1; 95% CI, +3.13–+6.56 MJ day−1; p < 0.001) days. Matches led to significantly greater energy expenditure (+1.85 ± 1.27 MJ; 95% CI, +0.95–+2.76 MJ day−1; p = 0.001) than court‐based training sessions. There was no significant difference in TEE (+0.03 ± 0.35 MJ day−1; 95% CI, −0.74–+0.80 MJ day−1; p = 0.936) across weeks. Calibrated Actiheart 5 monitors underestimated TEE (−1.92 ± 1.21 MJ day−1). Energy and fluid turnover were greatest on match days, followed by training and rest days, with no difference across weeks. This study provides criterion‐assessed energy and fluid requirements to inform dietary guidance for female netball players. Highlights: The energy and fluid requirements of female netball players were greatest on match days, followed by training and rest days, with no difference across a one‐ or two‐match weekly microcycle. Therefore, players are encouraged to periodise their intake on a daily basis, aligning with the demands of their training and match schedule.Female netball players have in‐season energy requirements representative of a vigorously active lifestyle (physical activity level: >2.0 arbitrary units). Summary: In wireless communication, impulsive noise often degrades channel quality, which poses challenges for equalizers. Although robust equalization methods offer some effectiveness, the occurrence of impulsive noise after training significantly impacts the symbol error rate (SER). To mitigate this issue, we propose a method that involves denoising the received signal using robust wavelet decomposition before equalization. This approach combines the discrete wavelet transform with median and morphological filters to reduce impulsive noise. A pre‐impulsive noise detection mechanism triggers denoising only when impulsive noise is detected. We evaluate the SER performance of the proposed technique using simulations of a 16‐QAM orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with kernel interpolation‐based frequency domain equalization (FDE) in a Rayleigh fading channel with impulsive noise. Results show that our approach achieves SER levels comparable to conventional methods in Gaussian noise scenarios, demonstrating its effectiveness in challenging wireless communication environments. Aim: This study aimed to understand Indonesian nurses' familiarity with the concept of reasonable adjustments, and the frequency of its application within their practice. Background: People with intellectual disability and/or autism are exposed to significant barriers when accessing healthcare and have poorer health outcomes than those without developmental disabilities. Reasonable adjustments can improve accessibility and quality of healthcare for people with disabilities and involves adapting practices and environments to promote equitable healthcare. Introduction: There is a scarcity of literature focused on the application of reasonable adjustments in the Indonesian nursing context. A greater understanding of the application of reasonable adjustments in this context can help inform nursing curricula and policy. Methods: A cross‐sectional, descriptive survey ‐was undertaken and is reported in accordance with the Strengthening the Reporting of Evaluations and Non‐randomised Designs. Following descriptive analysis, bivariate analyses were undertaken between key demographic, workplace, and self‐reported capability variables, and familiarity and implementation of reasonable adjustments. Results: The majority of respondents were not familiar with the concept of reasonable adjustments and self‐reported sometimes applying it within their practice. Higher levels of educational and clinical exposure to intellectual disability and/or autism, and self‐capability variables, were significantly associated with familiarity with reasonable adjustments and their application. Conclusions: An increase in nursing curricula focused on caring for people with intellectual disability and/or autism, including content focused on applying reasonable adjustments, is indicated. Implications for nursing policy: Given that, internationally, people with intellectual disability and/or autism have disproportionately negative health outcomes and experiences, findings highlighting gaps in understanding and application of reasonable adjustments of Indonesian nurses have substantial implications for nursing policy and curriculum. People with intellectual disabilities (IDs) face significant health challenges, including poor outcomes, limited access to health care, and a 26‐year life expectancy gap compared with the general population. This highlights the need for improved public health and social policies to enhance the quality of care in hospital and community settings. An integrated literature review was conducted to examine the state of disability nursing practice in Australia following the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Support (NDIS) scheme. The review included English‐language studies published from 2010 to 2023. Systematic searches in five databases resulted in a final sample of 28 studies. The data were then thematically analysed, and the following three themes emerged: Workforce development and professional standards, hospital experience and support needs of individuals with IDs, and nursing curriculum and ID. Study findings suggest that nurses lack preparation for effective health communication with individuals with IDs and their families. Evidence is insufficient to guide nursing practice and policies in ID care. Varying understandings of practice standards exist among nurses. Nursing curriculums in Australia fail to adequately prepare students to manage the unique needs of individuals with IDs, perpetuating the high mortality rates in this population. Specialised nursing practice areas are vital for meeting the complex needs of individuals with IDs. Reintroducing a disability nursing specialty and integrating dedicated study units and clinical placements in undergraduate programmes are recommended steps to improve care outcomes and support the overall well‐being of this population. Conducting research in ED is important and necessary to improve emergency care. Effective recruitment is an essential ingredient for the success of a research project and must be carefully monitored. Research coordinators are focused on optimising recruitment to research studies while also ensuring that the needs of participants and their families are met, and the research is acceptable to ED staff. In this paper, a group of experienced research coordinators from Australia and New Zealand have shared their strategies to engage staff and enhance recruitment of participants in emergency research. Objective: To explore how clinicians understand coaching and their clinician‐coach practice in emergency medicine. Methods: Participants were surveyed about the value of coaching and their beliefs about the enablers of, and barriers to, being a clinician‐coach. Results: Three themes were developed for the value of coaching: empowerment and growth; enhanced interpersonal dynamics; and reflective transformation. Key enablers were supportive infrastructure, self‐driven development and recognition of value. Key barriers were time constraints and scheduling conflicts, cultural challenges and financial and structural obstacles. Conclusions: Fostering a supportive environment for coaching could significantly enhance clinician competence and well‐being, healthcare delivery and professional development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The impact of geographical accessibility on cancer survival has been investigated in few studies, with most research focusing on access to reference care centers, using overall mortality and limited to specific cancer sites. This study aims to examine the association of access to primary care with mortality in excess of patients with the 10 most frequent cancers in France, while controlling for socioeconomic deprivation. Methods: This study included a total of 151,984 cases diagnosed with the 10 most common cancer sites in 21 French cancer registries between 2013 and 2015. Access to primary care was estimated using two indexes: the Accessibilité Potentielle Localisée index (access to general practitioners) and the Scale index (access to a range of primary care clinicians). Mortality in excess was modelized using an additive framework based on expected mortality based on lifetables and observed mortality. Findings: Patients living in areas with less access to primary care had a greater mortality in excess for some very common cancer sites like breast (women), lung (men), liver (men and women), and colorectal cancer (men), representing 46% of patients diagnosed in our sample. The maximum effect was found for breast cancer; the excess hazard ratio was estimated to be 1.69 (95% CI, 1.20–2.38) 1 year after diagnosis and 2.26 (95% CI, 1.07–4.80) 5 years after diagnosis. Interpretation: This study revealed that this differential access to primary care was associated with mortality in excess for patients with cancer and should become a priority for health policymakers to reduce these inequalities in health care accessibility. Nickel aluminum bronze (NAB) is a complex alloy used extensively in the marine environment. Fatigue strength of NAB is reduced by welding and prior seawater corrosion. This study investigated the combined effect of corrosion and plasma welding on the fatigue behavior of NAB. Natural seawater corroded samples were used in tension‐tension cyclic loading tests to observe fatigue crack initiation, propagation, and failure. Fatigue cracks initiated from corrosion pits at the weld toe. Stress corrosion and fatigue cracks propagated along the path of β′ and κIII phases. A short crack growth model (SCGM) predicted fatigue strength using experimentally obtained material properties and corrosion pit dimensions. Model predictions were used to develop S‐N curves and were within 30% of experimental results. The SCGM produced accurate and reliable fatigue life results that could be applied by industry to aid in revalidation decision making and inspection scheduling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current study examines complexities in relationships between need satisfaction at work, need satisfaction at home, work‐to‐family enrichment (WFE) and well‐being (in terms of positive affect). Competing theoretical perspectives are offered regarding relationships between need satisfaction and WFE. The first perspective, based in a domain specificity approach focused on the directional nature of WFE, suggests that need satisfaction at work is what matters for employees' WFE, irrespective of their need satisfaction at home. Alternatively, a second perspective proposes that both need satisfaction at work and need satisfaction at home represent important factors in employees' experiences of WFE and that congruence (i.e. similarity) between these two constructs is what matters for WFE. Competing hypotheses are tested in a sample of 204 full‐time employees who completed both a work and home survey and were rated on well‐being at home by a significant other. Results support the first perspective for competence need satisfaction and relatedness need satisfaction, while the second perspective is supported for autonomy need satisfaction. For all three needs, indirect relationships are found with well‐being, both at work and at home, via WFE. Roux‐en‐Y gastric bypass (RYGB) involves creating a small stomach pouch, bypassing part of the small intestine, and rerouting the digestive tract. These alterations can potentially change the drug exposure and response. Our primary aim was to assess the impact of RYGB on the pharmacokinetics of simvastatin lactone (SV) and its active metabolite, simvastatin hydroxy acid (SVA). Ultimately, we aimed to optimize dosing for this understudied population by employing a population pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic link approach. The study comprised patients who had undergone RYGB surgery and individuals without a previous history of RYGB. All participants received a single oral dose of simvastatin. Plasma concentration data were analyzed with a nonlinear mixed‐effect modeling approach. A parent–metabolite model with first‐order absorption, 2‐compartments for SV and 1‐compartment for SVA, linear elimination, and enterohepatic circulation best described the data. The model was linked to the turnover pharmacodynamic model to describe the SVA inhibition on LDL‐cholesterol production. Our simulations indicated that following RYGB surgery, the exposure to SV and SVA decreased by 40%. Consequently, for low‐intensity statin patients, we recommend increasing the dose from 10 to 20 mg in post‐RYGB patients to maintain a comparable response to that of non‐operated subjects. Moderate‐intensity statin patients should require increasing doses to 40 or 60 mg or the addition of a non‐statin medication to achieve similar therapeutic outcomes. In conclusion, individuals post‐RYGB exhibit diminished exposure to SV and may benefit from increasing the dose or adjunctive therapy with non‐statin drugs to attain equivalent responses and mitigate potential adverse events. Background and Aims: The course of adults with ZZ alpha‐1‐antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) liver disease is unpredictable. The utility of markers, including liver biopsy, is undefined. Methods: A prospective cohort, including protocol liver biopsies, was enrolled to address these questions. Results: We enrolled 96 homozygous ZZ AATD adults prospectively at three US sites with standardized clinical evaluations, and protocol liver biopsies. Fibrosis was scored using Ishak (stages 0–6). Also, 51% of the 96 subjects had Ishak score >1 fibrosis (49% Ishak 0–1, 36% Ishak 2–3 and 15% ≥4). Elevated aspartate aminotransferase (AST) more than alanine aminotransferase (ALT), high body mass index (BMI), obesity, AST platelet ratio index and elevated serum Z alpha 1 antitrypsin (AAT) polymer levels were associated with increased fibrosis. Steatosis did not correlate to fibrosis. Increased fibrosis was associated with increased mutant Z polymer globular inclusions (p =.002) and increased diffuse cytoplasmic Z polymer on biopsy (p =.0029) in a direct relationship. Increased globule Z polymer was associated with increased serum AST (p =.007) and increased periportal inflammation on histopathology (p =.004), but there was no relationship of Z polymer hepatocellular accumulation with ALT, gamma glutamine transferase, inflammation in other parts of the lobule, necrosis or steatosis. Serum Z polymer levels were directly correlated to hepatic Z protein polymer content. Lung function, smoking and alcohol consumption patterns were not associated with fibrosis. Conclusion: In AATD high BMI, obesity and elevated AST are associated with increased fibrosis. Liver biopsy features are correlated to some serum tests. Serum Z AAT polymer levels could be a future biomarker to detect fibrosis early and is directly correlated to liver Z content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: There are conflicting results among studies on the association between serum ferritin (SF) and metabolic syndrome (MetS), and by groups of sex/menopausal status. To date, there are no studies on British populations. The SF‐MetS association might be U/J‐shaped. We evaluated whether SF was independently associated with MetS (harmonized definition) in people from Shetland, Scotland. Methods: We analysed cross‐sectional data from the Viking Health Study‐Shetland (589 premenopausal women [PreMW], 625 postmenopausal women [PostW] and 832 men). Logistic regressions using two approaches, one with the lowest sex and menopausal status‐specific ferritin quartile (Q) as the reference and other using the middle two quartiles combined (2–3) as the reference, were conducted to estimate the SF‐MetS association. The shape of the association was verified via cubic spline analyses. The associations were adjusted for age, inflammatory and hepatic injury markers, alcohol intake, smoking and BMI. Results: Prevalence of MetS was 18.3%. Among PostMW both low and high SF were associated with MetS (fully adjusted odds ratios [95% confidence interval] compared to the middle two quartiles combined were: 1.99 [1.17–3.38] p =.011 for Q1 and 2.10 [1.27–3.49] p =.004 for Q4) This U‐shaped pattern was confirmed in the cubic spline analysis in PostMW with a ferritin range of 15–200 ug/L. In men, a positive association between ferritin quartiles with Q1 as the reference, did not remain significant after adjustment for BMI. Conclusion: Extreme quartiles of iron status were positively associated with MetS in PostMW, while no SF‐MetS associations were found in men or PreMW. Most domestic and family violence (DFV) research has focused on establishing prevalence and screening rates in public health and community samples. This study sought to address a gap in the literature by evaluating DFV screening and response practices in a private mental healthcare inpatient service and determining if clients of the service had unmet DFV needs. A prospective, convenience sample, mixed methods, cross‐sectional survey of adult inpatient mental health consumers was employed. Sixty‐two participants completed the Royal Melbourne Hospital Patient Family Violence Survey. Quantitative Likert‐type and categorical responses were collated and analysed descriptively (count and percentage). Free‐text responses were analysed using qualitative description within a content analysis framework. Sixty‐five percent of participants had been screened for at least one DFV issue, on at least one occasion, with 35% not being screened, to their recall. Twenty‐three percent reported disclosing DFV concerns, 82% felt very supported by the clinician's response to their disclosure, and 86% were provided with information they found helpful. Unmet needs were identified in 13% of participants, who had wanted to disclose DFV concerns but not feel comfortable to do so. No unscreened respondents disclosed DFV concerns, highlighting the need to uphold best practice guidelines for direct enquiry. Most disclosing clients were positive about the support they received. Waves of psychological research over 50 years have resulted in the development of scales to measure psychological resilience. Multiple psychological resilience definitions and factors have emerged during this time, making its measurement complex. The overall aim of the review was to identify and describe developments in the measurement of psychological resilience in the clinical mental healthcare setting. Specific objectives included (1) consideration of the validity and reliability of psychological resilience scales, (2) the effectiveness of the scales in clinical mental healthcare settings and (3) to identify the scope that resilience factors are addressed in the included scales. It provides a timely update regarding psychological resilience measurement tools and considers further developments that may be required. Between 2011 and 2024, databases were searched, and English‐language, peer‐reviewed papers with full text were extracted. Eligible studies were those reporting validated existing resilience measures or the outcomes of new measures for use in clinical mental healthcare settings. Seventeen studies met the inclusion criteria. The review demonstrated that psychological resilience measures require further development, particularly focusing on the utility of measurement tools in clinical mental healthcare settings. In this review, we highlight an existing gap in resilience measurement and underscore the need for a new measure of psychological resilience that can effectively assess individuals' subjective experience of their psychological resilience in clinical mental healthcare settings. The currently available psychological resilience measures included in this review do not directly reflect all the factors that might impact a client's depression or anxiety and warrant further research. This research addresses the critical issue of identifying factors contributing to admissions to acute mental health (MH) wards for individuals presenting to the emergency department (ED) with MH concerns as their primary issue, notably suicidality. This study aims to leverage machine learning (ML) models to assess the likelihood of admission to acute MH wards for this vulnerable population. Data collection for this study used existing ED data from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2021. Data selection was based on specific criteria related to the presenting problem. Analysis was conducted using Python and the Interpretable Machine Learning (InterpretML) machine learning library. InterpretML calculates overall importance based on the mean absolute score, which was used to measure the impact of each feature on admission. A person's 'Age' and 'Triage category' are ranked significantly higher than 'Facility identifier', 'Presenting problem' and 'Active Client'. The contribution of other presentation features on admission shows a minimal effect. Aligning the models closely with service delivery will help services understand their service users and provide insight into financial and clinical variations. Suicidal ideation negatively correlates to admission yet represents the largest number of presentations. The nurse's role at triage is a critical factor in assessing the needs of the presenting individual. The gap that emerges in this context is significant; MH triage requires a complex understanding of MH and presents a significant challenge in the ED. Emergency department (ED) presentations for mental health (MH) help‐seeking have been rising rapidly in recent years. This research aims to identify the service usage demographic for people seeking MH care in the ED, specifically in this case, to understand the usage by First Nation people. This retrospective cohort study examined the sociodemographic and presentation characteristics of individuals seeking MH care in two EDs between 2016 and 2021. Data were collected using existing records and analysed using descriptive univariate analysis with statistical significance between the two sites determined using chi‐squared test, p < 0.05. The overall data presented in this analysis show an overall ED mental health presentation rate of 12.02% for those who identified as 'Aboriginal but not Torres Strait Islander origin', 0.36% as 'Both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander' and 0.27% as 'Torres Strait Islander' totalling 12.63%. This is an overrepresentation compared to the regional population of 4.9%. One site recorded 14.1% of ED presentations that identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, over double the site's demographic of 6.3%. Given the disproportionately high representation of First Nation people in MH‐related ED presentations, further research is required to prioritise a First Nation research perspective that draws on First Nation research methods, such as yarning and storytelling to understand the unique cultural needs and challenges experienced by First Nation people accessing MH care via ED. Understanding the demographic is but one step in supporting the Cultural Safety needs of First Nation people. Additionally, research should be designed, governed and led by First Nation researchers. Background and aims: Cannabis and nicotine (tobacco or e‐cigarettes) use commonly co‐occurs and understanding their relationship can help to inform public health strategies to prevent their harms. We conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis to estimate the association of cannabis use given prior nicotine use and vice versa. Methods: PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, Google Scholar and a hand‐search were conducted in 2023 for longitudinal studies of the general population with no restrictions in settings (locations). Random‐effects meta‐analysis was conducted to estimate odds ratios between cannabis and nicotine use in both directions. The impact of unmeasured confounding was assessed using E‐values. Results: From 5387 identified records, we included 20 studies. Among cannabis‐naïve youths, baseline use of any nicotine products was positively associated with initiation of any cannabis use at follow‐up [odds ratio (OR) = 5.39, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 3.19, 9.11; adjusted OR (aOR) = 2.59, 95% CI = 2.01, 3.32]. In nicotine‐naïve participants (youths + adults), baseline cannabis use was positively associated with the initiation of any nicotine use at follow‐up (OR = 4.08, 95% CI = 2.05, 8.11; aOR = 2.94, 95% CI =1.54, 5.61). There were no significant associations between baseline cannabis use and subsequent initiation of any nicotine (aOR = 3.29, 95% CI = 0.85, 12.76) or daily nicotine use (aOR = 2.63, 95% CI = 0.41, 16.95) among youths. The median E‐values were 5.5 for nicotine exposure and cannabis use initiation and 4.1 for cannabis exposure and nicotine use initiation, indicating that substantial unmeasured confounding would need to have a strong association with both outcomes to fully explain away the cannabis and nicotine relationship. Conclusion: Although the evidence for associations between cannabis use and tobacco use is mixed, a majority of studies to date have found that cannabis use is associated with prior nicotine use and vice versa. Objectives: Swallowing function in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) is often assessed pre‐treatment, during and at intervals post‐treatment to identify those with dysphagia as early as possible. This study aims to investigate the minimal clinical important difference (MCID) for the 100 mL water swallow test (100 mL WST) to increase its utility in clinical practice and in clinical trials. Methods: Data from 211 HNC patients, treated by either single or combined modality were included. Patients completed both the 100 mL WST and M.D. Anderson Dysphagia Inventory (MDADI) at baseline (i.e., prior to treatment) and 12 months post‐treatment. The MCID for the 100 mL WST was calculated using two approaches of the anchor‐based method (using the MDADI), including mean change, and ROC curve. Additionally, the distribution‐based method was used utilizing the half standard deviation approach. Results: In the anchor‐based method, a 4 mL/s in the 100 mL WST was defined as an MCID for deterioration, with a sensitivity of 75% and a 1‐specificity of 46%. In contrast, a change of 5 mL/s was deemed as an MCID for improvement, based on the distribution‐based method. Conclusion: The findings showed that deterioration of 4 mL, or an increase of 5 mL from baseline to 12 months post‐HNC treatment equates to an MCID from the patients' perspective. Based on these findings, it may be beneficial to increase the utilization of the 100 mL WST in clinical practice to observe the changes, and in clinical trials to interpret and compare different study arms. Aim: Ecological state shifts that alter the structure and function of entire ecosystems are a concerning consequence of human impact. Yet, when, where and why discrete ecological states emerge remains difficult to predict and monitor, especially in high‐diversity systems. We sought to quantify state shifts and their drivers through space and time in the most ecologically complex marine ecosystem: tropical coral reefs. Location: Worldwide. Time Period: 1987–2019. Major Taxa Studied: Coral reef communities. Methods: Using a global dataset of 3375 coral reef surveys, along with 13 time series datasets ranging between 1987 and 2019, we applied a novel double‐dichotomy approach to classify coral reefs into four simplified and discrete states based on the relative contributions of corals versus algae to benthic cover and small‐bodied versus large‐bodied fishes to fish standing stock. We then examined state shifts considering a range of spatial predictors and tested whether states have shifted directionally over time, and the nature of the most common transitions. Results: We show that geographic, environmental and anthropogenic context fundamentally shapes coral reef states at the local scale, which explains disparities among case studies, and stakes out critical baseline expectations for regional management efforts. We also reveal clear multi‐decadal state shifts on coral reefs: over time, systems dominated by reef‐building corals and small‐bodied, planktivorous fishes tend to have been replaced with reefs characterised by algae and larger‐bodied fishes. Main Conclusions: Our results suggest a previously unrecognised transition from systems that harness external subsidies through small‐bodied consumers associated with structurally complex live corals, to herbivore‐dominated systems with stronger bottom‐up dynamics. Overall, the partitioning of complex reef ecosystems into a small suite of discrete ecological states suggests that spatial context‐dependency, shifting baselines and changes in reef functioning are crucial considerations for coral reef management in the 21st century. Given the genetic and clinical overlap observed between schizophrenia and depression, the present study was to identify the similarities and differences in serum metabolic profiles between patients with schizophrenia and depression. Global metabolomics research methods based on UHPLC‐QTOF‐MS/MS were performed. A total of 113 and 118 differential metabolites were screened and identified in depression and schizophrenia groups, respectively, as compared to health control; among those, 94 differential metabolites were shared by both. Pathway analysis indicated arginine and proline metabolism, alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism were two significant metabolic pathways both in depression and schizophrenia groups as compared with health control groups, respectively. Similarly, 77 differential metabolites were identified between depression and schizophrenia groups, in which, serum N‐acetylglutamine and isovalerylglycine levels showed significant differences between patients with depression and schizophrenia with p values less than 0.001 and without significant outliers. Sphingolipid metabolism was identified as a significant metabolic pathway distinguishing between depression and schizophrenia groups based on pathway analysis. Conclusively, common alterations in arginine and proline metabolism, alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism were observed in patients with schizophrenia and depression; whereas differences in serum N‐acetylglutamine and isovalerylglycine levels as well as sphingolipid metabolism were discovered between the two categories of patients. Conventional testing of novel contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) involves cell and animal studies. However, 2D cultures lack dynamic flow and in vivo MRI is limited by regulatory approval of long‐term anesthesia use. Microfluidic tumor models (MTMs) offer a cost‐effective, reproducible, and high throughput platform for bridging cell and animal models. Yet, MRI of microfluidic devices is challenging, due to small fluid volumes generating low sensitivity. For the first time, an MRI of MTMs was performed at low field strength (1 T) using conventional imaging equipment without microcoils. To enable longitudinal MRI, we developed (1) CHAMP‐3 (controlled heating apparatus for microfluidics and portability) which heats MTMs during MRI scans and (2) an MRI‐compatible temperature monitoring system. CHAMP‐3 maintained chip surface temperature at ~37°C and the media inside at ~35.5°C. Objective: We sought to characterize the prevalence of ankyloglossia in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) population and to determine characteristics of this cohort compared to infants in the birth center (BC). Methods: Prospective data were collected using a standardized flow sheet. Breastfeeding infants undergoing evaluation for tongue‐tie in the BC and NICU were included. Coryllos type, tip to frenulum length, tongue function, frequency of frenotomy, and breastfeeding outcomes were compared. Results: Of 20,879 infants birthed at or admitted to the institution during the study period, there were fewer patients diagnosed with ankyloglossia in the BC compared to the NICU (3.3% BC vs. 5.4% NICU, p < 0.01). Of these, 163 underwent frenotomy: 86 in the BC and 77 in the NICU. For those undergoing frenotomy, gestational age (39.1 ± 1.3 BC, 34.4 ± 4.4 NICU, p < 0.01) and age at time of procedure (3.2 days BC, 29.2 NICU, p < 0.01) were the only demographic factors significantly different between the groups. There was no difference in Coryllos type or function score. In a subset of NICU infants with multiple assessments over time, function scores after frenotomy were significantly improved compared to pre‐frenotomy (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Standard assessment tools appear to be appropriate for use in infants in the NICU, despite the higher rates of prematurity, low birth weights, and increased comorbidities. Assessment and intervention for tongue‐tie can be one critical intervention to move these patients closer to oral feeding and discharge to home. Sensitivity analysis enables the identification of influential parameters and the optimisation of model composition. Such methods have not previously been applied systematically to models describing hyperpolarised 129Xe gas exchange in the lung. Here, we evaluate the current 129Xe gas exchange models to assess their precision for identifying alterations in pulmonary vascular function and lung microstructure. We assess sensitivity using established univariate methods and scatter plots for parameter interactions. We apply them to the model described by Patz et al and the Model of Xenon Exchange (MOXE), examining their ability to measure: i) importance (rank), ii) temporal dependence and iii) interaction effects of each parameter across healthy and diseased ranges. The univariate methods and scatter plot analyses demonstrate consistently similar results for the importance of parameters common to both models evaluated. Alveolar surface area to volume ratio is identified as the parameter to which model signals are most sensitive. The alveolar‐capillary barrier thickness is identified as a low‐sensitivity parameter for the MOXE model. An acquisition window of at least 200 ms effectively demonstrates model sensitivity to most parameters. Scatter plots reveal interaction effects in both models, impacting output variability and sensitivity. Our sensitivity analysis ranks the parameters within the model described by Patz et al and within the MOXE model. The MOXE model shows low sensitivity to alveolar‐capillary barrier thickness, highlighting the need for designing acquisition protocols optimised for the measurement of this parameter. The RUNT‐related transcription factor RUNX2 plays a critical role in osteoblast differentiation, and alterations to gene dosage cause distinct craniofacial anomalies. Uniquely amongst the RUNT‐related family, vertebrate RUNX2 encodes a polyglutamine/polyalanine repeat (Gln23‐Glu‐Ala17 in humans), with the length of the polyalanine component completely conserved in great apes. Surprisingly, a frequent 6‐amino acid deletion polymorphism, p.(Ala84_Ala89)del, occurs in humans (termed 11A allele), and a previous association study (Cuellar et al. Bone137:115395;2020) reported that the 11A variant was significantly more frequent in non‐syndromic sagittal craniosynostosis (nsSag; allele frequency [AF] = 0.156; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.126–0.189) compared to non‐syndromic metopic craniosynostosis (nsMet; AF = 0.068; 95% CI 0.045–0.098). However, the gnomAD v.2.1.1 control population used by Cuellar et al. did not display Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, hampering interpretation. To re‐examine this association, we genotyped the RUNX2 11A polymorphism in 225 individuals with sporadic nsSag as parent–child trios and 164 singletons with sporadic nsMet, restricting our analysis to individuals of European ancestry. We compared observed allele frequencies to the non‐transmitted alleles in the parent–child trios, and to the genome sequencing data from gnomAD v.4, which display Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. Observed AFs (and 95% CI) were 0.076 (0.053–0.104) in nsSag and 0.082 (0.055–0.118) in nsMet, compared with 0.062 (0.042–0.089) in non‐transmitted parental alleles and 0.065 (0.063–0.067) in gnomAD v.4.0.0 non‐Finnish European control genomes. In summary, we observed a non‐significant excess, compared to gnomAD data, of 11A alleles in both nsSag (relative risk 1.18, 95% CI 0.83–1.67) and nsMet (relative risk 1.29, 95% CI 0.87–1.92), but we did not replicate the much higher excess of RUNX2 11A alleles in nsSag previously reported (p = 0.0001). Background: Human cadavers are an important component of anatomy education; however, they have limitations. In this scenario, alternative artificial models emerge to complement teaching and enable learning in environments with scarce resources. The following study aims to demonstrate the elaboration of handmade cold porcelain models and their acceptance by medical students in a Brazilian university. Approach: A cross‐sectional study was carried out with 70 first‐year medical students using quantitative and qualitative analysis. The students' evaluation was analysed through an online questionnaire with a Likert scale and an open‐ended question. The present study was approved by the local Research Ethics Committee. Five models were produced with cold porcelain and resin. Evaluation: Qualitative evaluation highlighted the ease and practicality of the models. Students agree with the idea that the use of cadavers and handmade anatomical pieces contribute to their learning, that the handmade models are very similar to the human body, and they strongly agree that the use of both made it easier to understand the content. However, they also see the models as complementary materials, disagreeing with the idea that they are the best or the only ways to teach. In the word cloud, the words "unreal" and "complement" are often highlighted converging to the idea that was also observed in the quantitative analysis that handmade models are a complementary teaching tool. Implications: Cold porcelain handmade models enable the democratisation of anatomy teaching; hence, they are low‐cost, easy to access, and allow the reproducibility of anatomical structures by each student. Identity leadership captures leaders efforts to create and promote a sense of shared group membership (i.e., a sense of "we" and of "us") among followers. The present research report tests this claim by drawing on data from 26 countries that are part of the Global Identity Leadership Development (GILD) project to examine the relationship between political leaders' identity leadership and civic citizenship behavior (N = 6787). It also examines the contributions of trust and economic inequality to this relationship. Political leaders' identity leadership (PLIL) was positively associated with respondents' people‐oriented civic citizenship behaviors (CCB‐P) in 20 of 26 countries and civic citizenship behaviors aimed at one's country (CCB‐C) in 23 of 26 countries. Mediational analyses also confirmed the indirect effects of PLIL via trust in fellow citizens on both CCB‐P (in 25 out of 26 countries) and CCB‐C (in all 26 countries). Economic inequality moderated these effects such that the main and indirect effects of trust in one's fellow citizens on CCB‐C were stronger in countries with higher economic inequality. This interaction effect was not observed for CCB‐P. The study highlights the importance of identity leadership and trust in fellow citizens in promoting civic citizenship behavior, especially in the context of economic inequality. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of acute nicotinamide riboside (NR) supplementation on cerebral nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) levels in the human brain in vivo by means of downfield proton MRS (DF 1H MRS). Methods: DF 1H MRS was performed on 10 healthy volunteers in a 7.0 T MRI scanner with spectrally selective excitation and spatially selective localization to determine cerebral NAD+ levels on two back‐to‐back days: once after an overnight fast (baseline) and once 4 h after oral ingestion of nicotinamide riboside (900 mg). Additionally, two more baseline scans were performed following the same paradigm to assess test–retest reliability of the NAD+ levels in the absence of NR. Results: NR supplementation increased mean NAD+ concentration compared to the baseline (0.458 ± 0.053 vs. 0.392 ± 0.058 mM; p < 0.001). The additional two baseline scans demonstrated no differences in mean NAD+ concentrations (0.425 ± 0.118 vs. 0.405 ± 0.082 mM; p = 0.45), and no difference from the first baseline scan (F(2, 16) = 0.907; p = 0.424). Conclusion: These preliminary results confirm that acute NR supplementation increases cerebral NAD+ levels in healthy human volunteers and shows the promise of DF 1H MRS utility for robust detection of NAD+ in humans in vivo. Objective: To investigate pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD; urinary incontinence (UI), faecal incontinence (FI) and prolapse) ≥20 years after childbirth and their association with delivery mode history and demographic characteristics. Design: Cohort study with long‐term follow‐up. Setting: Maternity units in Aberdeen and Birmingham (UK) and Dunedin (NZ). Population: Women giving birth in 1993/1994. Methods: Postal questionnaires at 20 (New Zealand) or 26 (United Kingdom) years after index birth (n = 6195). Regression analyses investigated associations between risk factors and UI, FI and prolapse symptoms. Main Outcome Measures: Prevalence of self‐reported UI, FI, 'something coming down' from or in the vagina (SCD), and the Pelvic Organ Prolapse‐Symptom Score, and relationships with delivery method. Results: Thirty‐seven per cent (n = 2270) responded at 20/26 years, of whom 61% reported UI (59% of whom reported more severe UI), 22% FI and 17% prolapse symptoms. Having only caesarean section (CS) was associated with a significantly lower risk of UI (OR 0.63, 95% CI 0.46–0.85), FI (OR 0.63, 95% CI 0.42–0.96) and SCD (OR 0.44, 95% CI 0.27–0.74) compared to only spontaneous vaginal deliveries (SVDs). Having any forceps delivery was associated with reporting FI compared to only SVDs (OR 1.29, 95% CI 1.00–1.66), but there was no association for UI (OR 0.95, 95% CI 0.76–1.19) or SCD (OR 1.05, 95% CI 0.80–1.38). Higher current BMI was associated with all PFD outcomes. Conclusions: Prevalence of PFD continues to increase up to 26 years following index birth, and differences were observed according to delivery mode history. Objective: To explore intrinsic and extrinsic factors that help nonresident fathers' continuing relationships with their children. Background: Research on nonresident fathers tends to focus on rates or trajectories of contact and the perspectives or experiences of children or others and highlights significant barriers to development and maintenance of relationships between nonresident fathers and their children. What helps the growth and development of nonresident fathers' relationships with their children are less well understood and less frequently researched. This research sought to fill the gap in the literature of what is known that helps nonresident fathers maintain meaningful relationships with their children. Method: A qualitative research approach was chosen using thematic analysis of semistructured, in‐depth interviews. Recruitment was via social media and community sites targeting nonresident fathers after divorce. Results: Participants highlighted deep commitment to ongoing fathering and a deep desire for meaningful relationships with children. The experience of divorce had a highly negative impact, but some positives emerged that enhanced their relationship. Significant others played contingent roles helping participants improve their relationships with their children. Conclusion: Continuity of relationships with children was the direct result of participants' actions to remain involved and their ongoing commitment to their children through strong and unwavering fatherhood role salience. These factors, together with actions for self‐improvement, managing change, and fostering cooperative relationships with relevant others, helped fathers maintain positive engagement and relationships with their children. Implications: The nonresident fathers in this study relied on their own initiatives, resilience, and resources to remain engaged with their children. Policies and programs should respond to and encourage the development of policies and programs that help nonresident fathers' relationships with children in practical and meaningful ways. Plain Language Summary: Wildfire smoke in 2023 led to hazy conditions throughout the United States in late June and early July. Farmers often asked what effect the haze had on the weather as well as crop growth and development. This report used weather data from Ohio to measure the impacts of smoke and haze on light availability, and to determine how temperatures may have been affected. Light during the season was reduced by up to 9% during the months of May–August, but reductions in temperature were more likely caused by northerly wind patterns rather than the haze. Cooler seasonal temperatures also contributed to delayed maturation and grain drydown in corn. Despite the haze and cooler temperatures, the 2023 state average yield of corn, soybean, and wheat were highest in 10 years. Introduction Methods Results Conclusion CT has replaced skull radiography as the gold standard for assessment of craniosynostosis in children. To minimise the risks of ionising radiation in this radiosensitive population, low‐dose CT protocols are increasingly being adopted. This study evaluates the effectiveness of an ultra‐low‐dose CT protocol with a tin filter in reducing radiation exposure whilst maintaining diagnostic quality for craniosynostosis, and its utility in the evaluation of other findings not appreciable on skull radiography.Twenty‐seven patients who underwent ultra‐low‐dose CT for craniosynostosis were compared with an age‐matched control group who received standard‐dose CT for indications other than craniosynostosis. Differences in radiation dosimetry and quantitative image quality parameters were analysed using independent two‐tailed t‐tests. Radiologist reports were also examined for the frequency of other incidental radiological findings.Mean effective dose for the 27 ultra‐low‐dose CT scans was 0.14 mSv, a 92% reduction compared with the control group. Image quality, measured by contrast‐to‐noise ratio, was significantly lower in the ultra‐low‐dose scans compared with the standard‐dose scans; however, all scans were diagnostic for detecting or excluding craniosynostosis. Hydrocephalus was able to be ruled out in all 27 ultra‐low‐dose scans.Ultra‐low‐dose CT with a tin filter allows for the diagnosis of craniosynostosis with a 92% dose reduction compared with the standard CT protocol. Despite lower image quality with the ultra‐low‐dose protocol when compared to standard CT, all 27 scans were adequate for craniosynostosis diagnosis. Additionally, it allowed for the assessment of other relevant findings not appreciable with skull radiography, highlighting its advantages as the new clinical standard for craniosynostosis assessment. Lunar mare basalts represent melting of mantle material, buoyant ascent in dikes, and eruption onto <20% of the surface. Global mare distribution is distinctly asymmetrical, with a paucity on the farside, plausibly interpreted to be related to thicker farside low‐density crust inhibiting buoyant magma rise to the surface. Challenging this hypothesis is the presence of the huge, ancient farside South Pole‐Aitken (SPA) basin, site of the thinnest crust and deepest depression observed on the Moon. We hypothesize that an oblique impact stripped the farside crust within the SPA basin, permitting early mare basalt emplacement as cryptomaria due to thin/absent crust. However, removal of the SPA thermally insulating megaregolith/crust accelerated lithosphere thickening beneath the basin. This deepening rheological barrier inhibited buoyant rise of mantle diapirs below SPA, resulting in early abatement of mare basalt extrusions compared to the nearside, and retention of the deep, underfilled SPA impact basin observed today. Plain Language Summary: The cause of the observed asymmetry in nearside/farside mare basalt distribution (nearside ∼15% of the surface, farside ∼1%) has been attributed to differences in crustal thickness and the magma buoyancy at the base of the thicker crust, but this single factor is challenged by the presence of the ancient very deep SPA basin (average ∼5 km), significantly underfilled by mare basalts compared to the nearside. We examine the effects of the formation of the giant (∼2,300 km) SPA basin in removing the insulating megaregolith/crust, and show that it could first result in rapid cryptomaria emplacement due to near‐absent crust, accompanied by enhanced heat loss within the basin, and formation of anomalously early thick sub‐SPA lithosphere, inhibiting its mare filling due to a rheological barrier to basaltic magma eruptions, analogous to that which occurs later in lunar history on the lunar nearside. This contribution to the Special Issue of EM:IP on the topic of The Past, Present and Future of Educational Measurement concentrates on the present and the future and hence focuses on the goal of improving education. The results of meta‐analyses were examined, and it was noted that the largest effect sizes were associated with actual use of formative assessments in classroom settings—hence classroom assessment (in contrast with large‐scale assessment). The paper describes micro assessment, which focuses on in‐classroom forms of measurement, and then expands this assessment approach to focus on frames beyond that in terms of summative end‐of‐semester tests (macro). This is followed by a description of how these approaches can be combined using a construct map as the basis for developing and using assessments to span across these two levels in terms of the BEAR Assessment System (BAS). Throughout, this is exemplified using an elementary school program designed to teach students about geometry. Finally, a conclusion summarizes the discussion, and also looks to the future where a meso level of use involves end‐of‐unit tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Background Methods Results Conclusion Gemcitabine and docetaxel (GD) is a common chemotherapy regimen for metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (STS). The GeDDiS trial compared GD with doxorubicin in the first‐line setting, using gemcitabine 675 mg/m2 over a prolonged rate of 90 min—reporting a 20% response rate and 5.4‐month median progression‐free survival (PFS). We aimed to examine the real‐world efficacy and toxicity of GD in our center, using a standardized dose of gemcitabine 900 mg/m2 over 30 min on Days 1 and 8 and intravenous docetaxel 75 mg/m2 over 60 min on Day 8 every 21 days.A retrospective analysis was conducted of patients with unresectable or metastatic STS receiving GD between July 2018 and October 2022. Data collected included patient and tumor characteristics, dose intensity, toxicity, response, PFS, and overall survival (OS).Thirty‐eight patients were included. Median follow‐up was 19 months (range 3–30). Line of treatment (n) was first line (10), second line (13), ≥ third line (15). The median number of cycles was 6. Response rate was 42%, including 5% with a complete response. At the time of data collection, 33 patients had disease progression and 24 patients had died. PFS (median, 6‐month rate) was 4.5 months and 44%. OS (median, 12‐month rate) was 15 months and 65%. Grade 3/4 toxicity included anemia (21%), neutropenia (5%), thrombocytopenia (5%), and febrile neutropenia (3%).These data demonstrate the activity of gemcitabine using a standardized dose and rate with docetaxel comparable to other published data and favorable toxicity in a real‐life patient population despite altered gemcitabine dosing and a heavily pretreated patient population. Aurora-A is an essential cell-cycle kinase with critical roles in mitotic entry and spindle dynamics. These functions require binding partners such as CEP192 and TPX2, which modulate both kinase activity and localisation of Aurora-A. Here we investigate the structure and role of the centrosomal Aurora-A:CEP192 complex in the wider molecular network. We find that CEP192 wraps around Aurora-A, occupies the binding sites for mitotic spindle-associated partners, and thus competes with them. Comparison of two different Aurora-A conformations reveals how CEP192 modifies kinase activity through the site used for TPX2-mediated activation. Deleting the Aurora-A-binding interface in CEP192 prevents centrosomal accumulation of Aurora-A, curtails its activation-loop phosphorylation, and reduces spindle-bound TPX2:Aurora-A complexes, resulting in error-prone mitosis. Thus, by supplying the pool of phosphorylated Aurora-A necessary for TPX2 binding, CEP192:Aurora-A complexes regulate spindle function. We propose an evolutionarily conserved spatial hierarchy, which protects genome integrity through fine-tuning and correctly localising Aurora-A activity. Synopsis: The mechanisms underlying the spatiotemporal control of Aurora-A kinase activity during mitosis are not yet determined. This study elucidates both the structure of the human Aurora-A:CEP192 complex and its critical role at the apex of Aurora-A activation in mitosis. CEP192 wraps around the N-lobe of the Aurora-A kinase domain occupying sites that are typically used by the competing microtubule-associated partners TACC3 and TPX2. CEP192 binds the F-pocket/C-helix region of the N-lobe in a way that inhibits Aurora-A, whereas TPX2 binding to the same region activates the kinase. The centrosomal CEP192-Aurora-A complex is the primary driver of Aurora-A auto-phosphorylation during mitosis. Deleting the Aurora-A binding interface of CEP192 causes mitotic spindle defects reminiscent of Aurora-A inhibition. CEP192 facilitates Aurora-A:TPX2 complex formation and activity on the mitotic spindle. Drone use has increased in the last decade, prompting efforts to manage their operation near wildlife. These efforts are hampered by variations in methods among studies, leading to evidence that is fragmented, inconsistent, and incomplete. To address this, we extracted evidence from 194 studies involving drones and birds, covering 314 species, including 61 studies on drone‐induced bird disturbance that encompassed 206 species. We summarized the results of these 61 studies, identified evidence gaps, and developed a standard method for characterizing drone‐induced bird disturbance. Drone‐induced bird disturbance varied with species, breeding status, and distance of the drone from the birds. Key evidence gaps include a lack of studies on small terrestrial species likely to occur in urban environments where drones are often used and limited research in Africa, Asia, and South America. Methods were inconsistent among studies, with only 20% of studies reporting the often‐recommended response variable of flight initiation distance (FID). We conclude that 1) managers should use evidence, including our database, to inform regulations, such as buffer distances, that account for species, breeding status, and drone type, 2) researchers should target contexts where interactions between drones and birds are likely but few studies exist, such as urban environments, and 3) researchers investigating drone‐induced bird disturbance should conduct horizontal and vertical approaches directly towards birds, and record the FID along with predictors describing the environment, target, and stimulus. Summary: Background: Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is common in people with HIV (PWH). The morphological spectrum of MASLD compared to matched controls and of the correlation between the NAFLD activity score (NAS) and fibrosis stage in PWH remains unknown. Methods: Overall, 107 liver biopsies from PWH with MASLD (MASLD‐PWH) were matched to 107 biopsies from individuals with MASLD and without HIV (MASLD controls) on age at biopsy, race/ethnicity, sex, type 2 diabetes, body mass index (BMI) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level. Biopsies were scored using NAS. Results: Compared to MASLD‐controls, MASLD‐PWH had lower steatosis grade (OR: 0.65, 95% CI: (0.47–0.90), p = 0.01), lower lobular inflammation grade (OR: 0.55, 95% CI: (0.34–0.89), p = 0.02), less portal inflammation (OR: 0.42, 95% CI: (0.25–0.72), p = 0.002) and less ballooned hepatocytes (OR: 0.60, 95% CI: (0.41–0.88), p = 0.01). Thus, NAS was lower in MASLD‐PWH (OR: 0.69, 95% CI: (0.56–0.85), p < 0.001) than in MASLD controls. There was a trend towards lower prevalence of steatohepatitis in MASLD‐PWH (OR: 0.84, 95% CI: (0.68–1.03), p = 0.09). A multivariate analysis demonstrated that MASLD‐PWH cases had significantly less steatosis (OR: 0.66, p = 0.03), portal inflammation (OR: 0.34, p = 0.001) and ballooned hepatocytes (OR: 0.55, p = 0.01), yet higher stage fibrosis (OR: 1.42, p = 0.03) compared to MASLD controls. Conclusion: The NAS and histological drivers of fibrosis (e.g. inflammation and hepatocyte ballooning) are less pronounced in MASLD‐PWH, and yet fibrosis stage was generally higher when compared to matched controls with MASLD without HIV. This suggests HIV‐specific factors beyond hepatic necroinflammation may contribute to fibrosis progression in MASLD‐PWH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT This study describes the identification and characterisation of a new mesophilic Aeromonas salmonicida strain, named HMes1 isolated from Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) in Tasmania. Isolates were identified as Aeromonas salmonicida through phenotypic, phylogenetic and genetic characterisation. After characterisation, the diagnostic phenotypic identification system MicroSys A24 was updated and a new multiplex conventional PCR was developed to enable rapid and inexpensive identification of atypical A. salmonicida, and exclusion of the exotic strain, A. salmonicida ssp. salmonicida. Social stimuli are some of the most commonly used reinforcers. Previous research shows that preference for social stimuli can be identified using paired‐stimulus preference assessments (PSPA) employing various stimulus modes (e.g., pictures of the actual social stimuli). To date, no study has evaluated the correspondence in preference for social stimuli identified via PSPAs completed using three differing stimulus modes. Therefore, this study compared the correspondence in preference hierarchy identified via PSPAs completed using video of the social stimuli (VSM), pictures of the actual social stimuli (PSM‐A), and drawings of the social stimuli (PSM‐D) and whether preference hierarchy remained stable over repeated administration of the PSPAs (i.e., 1 month). Moreover, we assessed participants' preference for the three types of stimulus modes. Results demonstrated that during the initial PSPAs, preference hierarchies were most similar across the PSPAs completed using VSM and PSM‐A, that preference was most stable across repeated administration of the PSPAs completed using the VSM, and that participants' preference for differing stimulus modes was idiosyncratic. Moreover, the PSPAs completed using the VSM required the longest amount of time to create materials and administer the assessment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
