Abstract

Rapid recognition of intracellular bacilli in the bone marrow in hypervirulent I Klebsiella pneumoniae i infection can aid in the rapid initiation of appropriate treatment. A bone marrow aspirate (May-Grünwald-Giemsa stain, ×100 objective) showed distorted granulocytes and macrophages containing structures that exhibited a uniform rod shape suggestive of phagocytosed bacilli (top images).
